i always thought that the two bag-looking things on dorian’s waist are his purses? two giant purses, or...pouches perhaps? Yet everybody else seems to agree that these are two books he carry with him at all time--which i thought was dumb bc why would he bring two books with him when hes out walking around the countryside killing random strangers with the inquisitor? My headcanon is that he keeps a journal and brings it with him everywhere, and im pretty sure he does know how to draw for the amount of times he’s been joking abt drawing “diagrams”. I bet he brings a spellbook and the journal in two separate pouches, and the journal wasn’t really a diary--it’s more sketches of landscape and map of areas, fascinating magical bullshit he’s found out about in his travels, notes from books he found interesting and useful...and sketches of people he consider friends and maybe even more--such as the inquisitor. I’d like to think that he purchased a new leather bound journal when he gets to skyhold since the old one has no more blank pages left. I can just imagine when the gang is camping out with my lavellan, finn, and dorian’d be sitting by the camp fire sketching him: his side profile gilded with glow of camp fire, his shoulder length long hair tied to a high pony tail, his chalk-white vallasin on the face, his skin tanned like fine whiskey--just like rilleus, just like his own. Maybe finn’d find this unfinished journal when hes hanging out with Dorian one day, and he is beyond touched and happy to see these sketches of himself and their friends in the journal. “these are beautiful”, his hand caressing pages after pages of sketches and notes, unwilling to let go, and Dorian remembers his unspoken fondness for two whole years. After the inquisition is disbanded and finn went to live in kirkwall, he received a package from Tevinter: It is Dorian’s leather bound journal, now finished and filled with interesting things from the ruins and villages they came across in their quests, doodles and sketches of their friends, and pages after pages of sketches depicting his profiles--a lot of them are even coloured. With the journal is a single sealed letter with house pavus’ stamp on it: “Amatus, forgive me for my continuing absence by your side--you know how stinky tevinter political intrigues are. This journal contains my memories of our times together--coincidentally the best times of my life--I want you to have it so that you may have a piece of me with you at your most trying times, love, Dorian.”
