hhh need advice abt degree stuff . info in tags
#personal#OKAY SO im doing philosophy and psychology in uni rn right . but i wanna do computer science/ai in the future . i want to get a phd in it#and work in developing AI. HOWEVER today i had some sort of a breakdown over the fact that maybe i am using CS as an excuse to do maths and#i actually just wanna do maths and if i dont do it ill always think shit . i should have done maths . no matter how much i love AI/machine#learning . HOWEVER. i cant switch to maths bc my school fucked me over and out of a further maths a level and also i havent done STEP exams#so if i dropped out id have to at minimum spend the next year after this doing exam prep and nothing else#meaning also that id have to start my undergrad at like. 22 or smth . and id have v few friends and disappointmt my parents and also myself#i could finish this degree and while doing so do STEP and further maths . meaning id spend 6 years in undergrad and rack up over#55k in debt of which half is easily repayable due to how UK student loans work . 6 yrs in undergrad tho . same problem as above w age. but#less mentally upsetting than above options probably and also a bit cheaper than this option:#finish this degree . do a CS conversion course. get a CS masters . do a maths conversion course. then get into maths masters and ur set.#this takes around 73k which is more difticult to pay back but i wont have the mental burden of being 22 in undergrad bc age ranges are#a lot bigger in postgrad . but its risky.#option 4(?) is i keep doing what i was going to do which is finish this degree do a CS conversion do a CS/ML/AI masters and a ML/AI phd#and do as much maths as possible. i am worried there A) wont be enough maths and B) i will always constantly think abt what could have been#and C) my academic learning in maths will stop there whereas in maths it would continue forever . HOWEVER i would make quite a lot of money#and i wont be miserable but maybe i would be regretful constantly a bit . idk. idk idk idk#what do u all think#also note its important for me to go to a top uni and note again that only one ug or pg degrees debt is relatively easy to pay. id have to#work a lotttt to afford to pay back for more than one of each course.
