TLDR: Bechdel was for years and still is to this day a strong supporter and attende of Michfest, an openly trans fem exclusionary event who in order to be a "safe space" for women and lesbian violenty excludes anyone "male socialized", there's a long history of trans women every year protesting right outside the event and when they tried to Enter in getting assaulted and abused by the cisbians. Allegedly the term TERF was born from the Michfest supporters

Bechdel has also been caught threating transmasc like [cis] butch lesbians in events and Even intentionally misgendering them to fit her narrative of them being [cis] butch lesbians. Has talked possitively and even collaborated with open transphobes like the creator of The Transexual Empire. And in her comics she has Made tasteless jokes about "Men pretending to be lesbians" and reffered to trans characters with dog whistles like "Trans Identified"

I feel people a lot of the times forget that like, fascists and bigots like terfs aren't always openly derangedly hateful like JKR or Posie Parker. There's a reason the "crypto" label exists. Allison may not be hateful, but a lot of her actions fit the literal definiton of "Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminist"

actually not to keep talking abt a topic hours later but i want to build off of one of my tags on that ultrakill post i rb'd last night [and im ONLY going to expand on one of my points, i will not be bringing up any other arguments in this post]

people love love love to say stuff like "pronouns =/= gender" [correct] and that you dont NEED to have specific pronouns such as he/him or she/her to be gay or lesbian [also correct], and while these two are great points that i agree with, it seems that these peoples support for this only goes as far as they/them users.

the absolute SECOND that a characters gender expression is canonically different from a "classic nonbinary" expression, its suddenly "up in the air" and "for your interpritation." and why is that?

specifically in the case of v1 and v2 from ultrakill; two canonically genderless/genderqueer/agender/nonbinray/what have you characters. v1 is VERY commonly seen as masc, and v2 is very commonly seen as fem.

v1 and v2 are also commonly headcannoned as gay and lesbian, respectively. theyre commonly shipped with characters seen as masc and fem. do you see what connections im beginning to see?

like it or not, by disregarding the canonical gender expression [or lacktherof] for these two, in order to fit them both into simple, binary, gendered boxes to also fit your specific sexuality headcanon - is in fact, an act of erasure! it comes off as INCREDIBLY iffy to fit nonbinary characters into a "masc nonbinary" and "fem nonbinary" binary.

and the fact is, i see people less often use other pronouns than it/its for these two for headcanon purposes or for fun or for projection, and more for SHIPPING purposes. there is a MASSIVE difference between adding onto a characters canonical pronouns for your own enjoyment and preference, and COMPLETELY changing them because you want a certain ship to be more gay, or whatever. an it/its user can be gay! it can also be a lesbian! it using it/its doesnt make it any less gay or any less of a lesbian, and it definitely doesnt make it any less nonbinary/genderqueer!

idk its just like. the machines in ultrakill [and most importantly v1 as the player character] being exclusively referred to as it/its is a major part of them and who they are. it is how they all express their gender CANONICALLY in the game. there are no other refferals no other pronouns, nothing. by disregarding this fact SO quickly, along with often only being for shipping reasons, you are showing that you Do Not Care for what the canon text is trying to tell you about the machines. im sorry but thats how it reads to me.

genuinely people love nonbinary characters until theyre the "wrong kind" of nonbinary, and all of a sudden jump through as many hoops as they physically can to disregard anything to do with that.

2] ive seen people making the argument that making nonbinary characters inhuman is like. bad rep or something idk im not doing the argument justice bc i dont remember it. but to that i say yes, i agree! we DO need more human nonbinary rep! boiling down every nonbinary person to be inhuman is Bad and you shouldnt instantly assume everyone whos nonbinary is Not Human! because that is really awful! do not misinterprite my stance here, i know what kind of website this is regarding reading comprehension! however comma that is not the point here. the machines using it/its isnt just from them being "inhuman nonbinary characters," it is a PART of the intended gender expression youre meant to gain from them. besides personally i adore inhuman nonbinary characters bc they kick ass and also im not human either. heart emoji.

3] no i am not saying you CANT listen to hakita and use different pronouns for the machines. at the end of the day hakitas word, regardless of if its in the game or not, is canon. im not your boss i cant tell you what to do. im not a fan of using he/him or she/her for Either v1 or v2 myself, but if it makes you happy, i literally cannot stop you. i hold no power over your decisions. i am once again saying, i am NOT tell you that you CANT do it.

just please. if your kneejerk reaction to being told "do what feels comfortable" about a characters pronouns, is to immediately assign the characters with it/its pronouns arbitrary masc/fem ones instead.. if that is your immediate kneejerk reaction, then PLEASE stop for a moment and consider why you feel that way specifically.

Ramblings about fem/masc alignments and labels

So, to my understanding fem aligned reffers to female aligned genders and masc aligned refers to male aligned genders. (Personally, I really prefer to say men/women aligned). And I'm very confused when people, for some reason, use those labels to describe gender presentation? Gender identity and presentation are not the same

Another thing I'm seeing among the community is forcefully assigning those labels on people. Not all sapphics/lesbians are women aligned! I don't consider myself women aligned, and I would like to use the sapphic label without the feeling that I'm being misgendered. I'm not aligned to any binary gender. I know there is also trixic label that specifically describes nblw attraction, but that's not the point... This experience feels a bit lonely? There are nonbinary lesbians who also do not consider themselves women aligned

Sapphic label brought me comfort, and I don't wanna drop it tbh. But I'm feeling kinda forced to with the alignment thing that lots of people in the community are applying...

Also, side note that I feel pretty unwelcomed by the cis lesbians as a nonbinary individual-they are clinging to the whole female alignment way more trans ppl

Hey, about that last anonymous ask... I think your advice to trust your partner is good, but I feel like you missed the mark by jumping to dealing with cases where metamours are bad for your partner.

If this person is a lesbian and ONLY has this problem with metamours when they're men, I think it might also be important to look at if they're harboring weird feelings about their partner's bisexuality and how they express that attraction.

If this is a problem with not respecting or trusting men, simply trying to go "well, no matter what you think, you should try to accept it" might not help long term. Maybe talk more with your partner about what they like and respect about the men they date? Cause if it turns out they can't feel comfy with ANY male metamour, that's a problem that needs to be worked out at the root, not on a case-by-case basis.

When answering questions I try to make as few assumptions as possible about the asker. I believe my initial gut vibe was to focus more on that aspect but I felt like that wasn't the response that would help them most. Typically logic would state that dealing with the root of a problem is the best way to deal with a problem. But sometimes you need to massage the symptoms first before you can get to the core. To complicated things, sometimes the root of one problem is the symptoms of another problem which creates an ever-growing feedback loop. So it can be hard to know where to start with the focus.

I am always comments that give second opinions on asks I answer. Different perspectives help greatly and it is all too easy for me to miss something.

what is the difference between sapphic and lesbian

this is a question my friend asked me a few days ago, and they said they had never gotten a good explaination on it. after i explained it, they said that i had done a really good job, so i decided to make a post explaining it to everyone else too. please feel free to link this post to people who ask you this.

sapphic

sapphic is both an identity and an umbrella term, and is often refferred to as "women loving women" or "wlw". the requirements to fit into it are that you like women, and that you are either have a lack of connection to manhood or have a remaining connection to womanhood. what do i mean by this? well, people with a lack of connection to manhood (but no connection to womenhood) may be non-binary, agender, demigender, or other outsie of the binary genders. they can be sapphic because they are not men, and do not have connections to manhood. (note: you can have a connection to masculinity or feel masculine in gender without having a conncetion to manhood.) However, let's say you have a connection to manhood, but still have a remaining connection to womenhood. some examples of gender would be bigender (specifically man/woman), genderfluid, or pangender. because these genders are still woman genders, they can be sapphic or identify with sapphic. This is because being sapphic was built upon women loving women, and to exclude any type of women wouldn't be right. Back to sapphic being an umbrella term. everyone who falls under the requirements above is sapphic. This includes identities such as bisexual, omnisexual, pansexual, polysexual, etc. as long as you fit the requirements, you are sapphic. whether or not you like men or how much you like men does not matter. however, some people may identify as sapphic. this may be because they don't know if they like men or not, or they heavily prefer women. whatever the reason, people may identify with it, and it can be its own sexuality. again, all it means its that you like women and you have a lack of connection to manhood or a connection to womanhood, which is pretty broad and nonspecific.

lesbian

lesbian is a sexuality alone, not an umbrella term. it has the same requirements of liking women and having a lack of connection to manhood or a connection to womanhood (explaination seen above), except that it completely excludes liking men (or, if they are partially a man, a remaining connection to womanhood) from their sexuality. it is much more specific.

depths: originally built as spectacle + as a lighthouse to work alongside jet, but jet collapsed before they were completeted. oops. feels very hollow and purposeless, until a messenger from the sea shows up with a pearl . otherwise depths is very distant from the group [mainly distance and poor comms] and also when trying to learn about jets clouds found it insensitive with the wound being 'too fresh' and kind of exploded on them. woops.

Being enby makes my sexuality confusing and scary for people and its not fun

I consider myself a lesbian. But i also don't go by she/her pronouns. Personally i dont actually have an issue with she/her, its just something i actively tell people not to use because otherwise its all they will call me.

But because of this, people like to get defensive over me calling myself a lesbian. Like so many people see a he/him lesbian and think it mean its a cis guy calling himself a lesbian, ignoring that pronouns ≠ gender??

Not to mention that simply being enby and lesbian is also controversial. Hell, i was friends with someone years ago and cut ties with them because despite them being enby themselves, they were saying i was using terf logic by calling myself a lesbian?? WHAT?? Like, they actually called me a terf unironically because in their eyes i was calling afab enby people women simply because i still called myself lesbian

What the fuck do people want me to call myself. I like women. Even sapphic isnt 100% safe since some people claim that only women can call themselves that.

Princess Glimmer and the Day of Many Choices: "Adora, please… take me home." (11/?)

Adora stared at Catra.

Catra looked at Adora with open, vulnerable eyes. She felt Horde Prime's influence flowing back, but she didn't care. She forced three more words out of her mouth.

"I… love… you…"

The mind numbing whispers of the hive mind took over her brain and Catra felt her body move to attack, she struck a blow at Adora, despite her best efforts to hold back, but Adora caught her fist in her hand. She looked at her with absolute devotion in her eyes.

"I… I love you too, Catra," she said. Her expression became determined. "And I'm taking you home. I promise. This time nothing will keep us apart."

"How charming," Horde Prime mocked. "But you…" which was as far as he got before Adora's fist slammed into his face and sent him flying through the room.

Catra felt the pain and surprise through the hive mind, and for a brief moment she was free to act again.

She wasn't about to waste that opportunity on anything unimportant.

She leaned up, gently put her head on Adora's head and caught her mouth in a deep kiss. Adora was surprised at first, but then responded most enthusiastically.

Catra felt power flow through her. Honestly, it didn't surprise her. She had always figured that kissing Adora would feel something like this. This was pure magic, and not only the magic stolen away by the First Ones in the heart of Etheria either - this was the magic of love, the most fundamental force of the universe, flowing into Catra from the woman she loved.

They kept kissing. Horde Prime yelled at her in her head but she ignored him. He was not important.

The power of love flowed through Catra, into the hive mind. Clones that were running into the room to attack suddenly stopped, looking around in confusion, suddenly free. Two of them shyly took each other's hand.

Adora and Catra kept kissing. Magic kept flowing. All over the space station, clones left the hive mind. It might have been scary under other circumstances, but the power of love carried them through the experience. Reassured them, promised them that they still had each other. Horde Prime yelled something. Nobody cared. He didn't matter anymore.

Adora and Catra took a brief gulp of air. They looked at each other lovingly and decided that was far too long time to go without kissing each other. So they kept kissing. Down on Etheria, clones and chipped people became freed. All throughout the universe, Horde Prime's hivemind unravelled. Millions of clones, free to find their own future. Millions of words no longer subjected to cruel tyranny.

'Wa-wa-wa,' Horde Primed yelled, or something like that. Nobody cared. Adora and Catra kept kissing. Clones left the space station in ones, twos or threes, teleporting out to see what freedom had to offer.

"I love your new style, by the way," Catra said, reffering to Adora's transformation into the sexy but evil Despara. "Very hot."

"You really think so?" Adora said, slightly flustered.

"Oh yeah," Catra grinned.

"I'm taking you home, Catra," Adora repeated, and with Catra in her arms she flow straight through the force field, with the course set on Etheria (fortunately, they were protected from the cold vacuum of space by the power of lesbian love).

And just like that, Horde Prime's empire was no more. He sat all alone, in his throne room, completely inconsequential to everyone in the universe.

Everyone? No, he was not entirely alone. One single clone had remained.

Was there someone still loyal to him? Was there still a chance for Horde Prime to rebuild his empire?

"Brother," Horde Prime begun. "You may…"

Hands strong as vices grabbed him and slammed him hard against the wall.

"YOU LIED!" Hordak roared. "YOU LIED ABOUT EVERYTHING!"

"I… I only wanted everyone in the universe to know that I'm better than them and that they don't deserve free will," Horde Prime gasped. "Why is that so wrong?"

"I DEVOTED MY LIFE TO YOU!" Hordak raged. "NO MORE!" And just like that he tossed Horde Prime aside like the garbage he was.

Not a single person in the universe missed him.

The Sunny Masterpost

Because I love them,,

Sundavar "Sunny" Wyrda is my oldest oc at something like 15 years. They are half elven nonbinary lesbian, generally taking the role of rogue/thief although they'd preffer to reffer to themself as a traveling tradesperson, or straight up smuggler if they trust you.

They're a deeply troubled person with some particularly nasty bits of trauma in their past and a whole host of unhealthy coping mechanisms, and my primary reason for writing them has always been exploration of how these things can shape someone, as well as the long, slow climb to recovery. So while they can absolutly be an angsty depressed wreck, they also have a pretty sharp sense of humour and a super strong (if sometimes lopsided) drive for justice. Also they're a dumbass who can't read.

Primarily making this because while in the past I've mainly used them for roleplay and d&d, I've finally started work on a novel with them as the POV character! The general concept is a murder mystery with notes of cosmic horror and political corruption with a focus on exploring the world through their trauma as they learn how to trust other people and dig themself out of their rut to hopefully make a difference in their world. If that sounds at all interesting to you, let me know! I'm considering posting the first draft to a03 as I go if there's enough interest!
