Personal Impression: Motherhood and A Hundred Flowers.
Last week, I've been watching two movies about mothers:
Motherhood.
Tumblr media
A Hundred Flowers.
Tumblr media
Motherhood was about a daughter (Rumiko) who loved and adore her mother so much that she puts her whole life and doing only for her mother happiness. Until she had her own daughter (Sayaka) and was being so cold after the grandmother tragic death.
The story was told from 2 point of view: the mother and the daughter. It was a slow pace movie. What make me interested in the movie is of course about the mystery. I never expected the way the grandmother died. It was a shocked even for me. Hahaha.
To be honest, I don't quite understand what the movie was trying to deliver. Not to be a perfect mother and caused your loved ones suffer? I'm not sure.
There were several scenes and lines that made me think deeply though.
At the scene when Rumiko was trying to save her mother but her mother brushes her away and told her to save Sayaka since she was the one to connects to the future (kind of thing). Rumiko refused and said, "I can have (or make?) another child, but I can't make another you."
Well, I kind of giggle hearing those lines since it makes sense. Hahaha. It's also reminds me of one jokes from Trevor Noah that precisely saying the same (about a French father and son whom he met while having an holiday in Bali).
Another scene was Sayaka's words about motherhood that was a concept being pushed upon the women by the society. That's also make sense. Hahaha.
One thing that I despise was the father who cheated with Rumiko's best friend. The cheated couple seemed doesn't feel guilty for doing so and even put the blame on Rumiko and Sayaka. Glad that Sayaka could convey her feelings and told her father that he's a coward. Damn right. That man was a coward for not defended his wife from his mother and prefer to cheated from Rumiko instead of settle things out.
Sayaka later on was pregnant. I wonder will she become like her mother, or will she be different?
A Hundred Flowers, tells about the difficult relationship between a mother whose memories slowly affected by Alzheimer and her relationship with her son. At first, I thought the son was kind of cruel for treating the mother badly. But, later on it was told that he has the reasons.
It's another slow pace movie with the mystery being revealed one by one and the story moves on.
Izumi (the son) was abandoned by his mother (Yuriko) when he was little. Yuriko was having an affair with a married guy and left Izumi all alone. Then, I understand why Izumi seemingly treated Yuriko's badly. He still has the grudge of being abandoned and he seeks for an answer from Yuriko. But, Yuriko having Alzheimer, made her slowly forgetting things, including Izumi as her son. I agreed with Izumi when he said she could forget everything while he will always remember the pain of being abandoned.
In the end, Izumi couldn't get the answer why Yuriko left him. But, he was stunned after he thought Yuriko has forget everything, turns out, she still remember one thing that so dearly to her: watching the half fireworks with Izumi. While in the other hand, Izumi totally forget about the memories.
Both movies are kind of "hard" for me. Since it reminds me of my own mother. During my teens, I tried to always be good whether with school or house chores so my mother would be proud of me. Until at some point, I realize that I probably will never be enough for her. Also during her old days, I tried to care for her, but in the end, I didn't do enough. Now, there's only regret for not doing enough while I can. Well, my mother isn't the perfect nor the greatest mother, but, she was my mother.
Those two movies were too close to my personal life. Hahaha.

It was a perfect day. Everything went romantically--passionately, even. Now they're standing on a lush verdant hill, the gentle evening breeze caressing their faces. Their hesitant fingers brushing oh-so-shyly as their hearts beat and beat even faster in a plea to shout out what their tongues cannot say.
And when he gazes at the person beside him, their attention captivated by the colorful fireworks that drew stars and flowers and beauty before their very eyes, he knows he has to say it. So that he may see the same besotted expression directed at him instead.
"My lovely flower. My beautiful star. Won't you... make breakfast with me, everyday, for the rest of our lives?"
"Huh? I know you like my cheap cooking, but don't you have world-class chefs at home? I'm sure they'd do better than me..."
"Ah."
In some cultures, asking someone to cook for you everyday is an indirect way of asking someone to marry you. And he was rejected.
Malleus Draconia was rejected. Unwittingly. With all the innocence in the world a person could ever display on their face.
Ah well, just another one of his failed attempts. He'd try again next time, in a different setting, with a different approach. There's bound to be one in a thousand that would work on them, surely?
"I don't really plan to take up culinary arts," They suddenly declare; eyes ahead and never meeting his, "So I don't think I'm qualified to be a royal chef. But if my job title gets to be 'spouse' instead... Maybe I'll give it a thought."
He's not entirely sure if the popping sound was still the fireworks or if it was his very heart.

I totally am not considering Empires Season 1 AUs
Jimmy, pouting: “Why do I have to get married for the treaty.”
Lizzie, eating breakfast: “Because the Wither Rose Alliance refused anything less than a marriage and I figured you would rather marry one of their allies than one of them.”
Jimmy, sulking: “So obviously I should marry the one we know nothing about bc his brother keeps him home under lock and key.”
Lizzie, spreading jam on a fish filet: “Well if the worst comes to worst and he’s absolutely terrible, at least you can just outlive him. Elves only live like four or five hundred years anyway.”
Jimmy: *opens his mouth*
Jimmy: *closes his mouth*
Jimmy: “How did that plan work out for you, then?”
Seablings: *look at each other*
Seablings: *look at Joel*
Joel, a perfectly normal, garden variety human. Who has inexplicably been married to Lizzie for ~600 years now: “is there something on my face?”
Lizzie: “Point taken.”
Meanwhile, in Rivendell
Scott, who has been relying on his brother’s lava magic to keep him from freezing their whole kingdom over for a long time now: “Oh yes this is going to go so well. We’re going to end up going to war with the Ocean because I accidentally turn the swamp kingdom into an ice skating rink. Excellent diplomacy, brother. You should get a prize.”
