Élisabeth Lebas talking about Robespierre like he’s the Messiah or something compilation

[Edgar Degas] told me that, when he was a child, his mother one day took him to rue de Tournon to visit Madame Lebas, widow of the famous Convention deputy who, on 9 thermidor, killed himself with a pistol. When the visit was over, they withdrew with small steps, accompanied to the door by the old lady, when Madame Degas suddenly stopped, deeply overwhelmed. Letting go of her son's hand, she pointed at the portraits of Robespierre, of Couthon, of Saint-Just, that she had just noticed were hanging on the walls of the antechambre, and she couldn’t keep herself from crying out with horror: ”What! I was able to converse, between 1838 and 1839, with a famous parrot who had been the friend of Robespierre. He belonged to Mme the widow Lebas, the wife of the famous Convention deputy who chose to die with Robespierre, and the mother of M. Lebas, Hellenist scholar, who died a few years ago. Mme widow Lebas, a very respectable woman, whom I had the honour of seeing often in her little house in Fontenay-aux-Roses, where she would make the sign of the cross when she pronounced the name Robespierre, adding these words: Saint Maximilien. As for her parrot, when one said "Robespierre", it replied Hats off! Hats off! It sang the Marseillaise with perfect diction and Ça ira like a Jacobin. It was — and perhaps, thanks to its diet of grain, still is — a sans-culotte parrot, the like of which can no longer be found. Mme Lebas recounted with great emotion how she had managed to save this precious psittacus  after Thermidor.  It had been seriously compromised.  After the arrest of Robespierre and Lebas, in the course of a long domiciliary inspection,  every time the name of Robespierre was pronouned the parrot would repeat its refrain, Hats off! Hats off! The government agents had grown impatient and were about to wring its neck, when Mme Lebas, as quick as lightning,  grabbed the bird, opened the window and set it free. The poor parrot flew from window to window, until it found a charitable person to open up for it; a few days later Madame Lebas was able to regain possession of this last friend left to her by Robespierre, the only one perhaps, besides his elderly mistress, who has remained faithful to his memory.  L’Union médicale: journal des intérêts scientifiques et pratiques, moraux et professionnels du corps médical (1861) volume 12, page 258-259.

Okaaayyyyy,, hopefully this will be the last time I post about this

So first off, I would like to apologize for my own ignorance and to the non-Subcon artists in the fandom for going off without actually knowing what I'm talking about or what all this discourse is actually about. I haven't been in the AHiT tags in, well over a year now, so I didn't know what was going on nor the scope of it. Basically, I was completely wrong and jumped straight to conclusions based off like. 3 or 4 posts I've seen floating around. That's entirely on me. It's cool if you forgive me or not, I'm not making this post for pity-me points

So, what this all seems to boil down to is non-Subcon content creators are frustrated with the disproportionate attention Subcon content receives, NOT because "Snatcher is too popular and I hate seeing him and if you like him you suck >:(" like I initially thought. Non-Subcon meaning AHiT content that doesn't have to do with Subcon (characters like Snatcher, Vanessa, Subconites, etc). And they're right, there is a fairly dramatic gap in between content that gets more likes and reblogs versus content that doesn't. Essentially, they are asking that if you see their work, regardless of the character that's in it, reblog it so other people can see it too, so we can foster a more equal distribution of content and attention for all characters and creators

Now, I'm gonna shoot myself in the foot here: realistically, in every fandom, there is more or less the same problem; for example, in Undertale, Sans is by far THE most popular character in comparison to literally anybody else, and Papyrus is only as popular by proxy. In the SCP fandom, I'd say an overwhelming majority favors 049 over any other SCP. In Pokemon, Charizard is so ridiculously popular Game Freak may as well make it the main mascot instead of Pikachu. And in A Hat in Time, the favored character by far happens to be Snatcher

I'm not trying to say "Oh, well it happens all the time so get over it!" I'm saying it does happen and it is frustrating. Personally, I can't stand Charizard. I wish some of my favorite Pokemon were more popular because they hardly get attention. Everybody sleeps on Gastrodon I swear…

But my point is, A Hat in Time's fandom is tiny in comparison to other fandoms. Are people obligated to reblog content they don't care for? Of course not. You can't make people like or reblog stuff they don't care for no matter how many posts you make about it. That is something we all need to come to terms with. The internet is fake, the Tumblr numbers are fake. It really isn't anything to be upset by. However, it can be and is upsetting when you pour your time and energy into a piece and it gets less than 20 notes. I like to hope the fandom is kind and will try to help out the smaller, less popular content creators by circulating their work when you see it. There are quite a lot of characters and even locations in AHiT that really get no opportunity to shine. That does come down to a matter of personal taste, but still. There are more characters and places than Snatcher and Subcon. It's a small community that I think should be helping itself out a lil bit

Like I said in my last post, Snatcher is my personal favorite because he's purple and evil. I like his design, I like his premise. I tend to favor villains as is, and I end up reblogging content for him the most because I like him the most. But I also get tired of seeing the same stuff for him, it gets bland. Sometimes I wanna see background characters. Just today I was thinking about Cooking Cat and Empress and wondered if there were any specific creators for them to follow. Yesterday I couldn't stop thinking about Tim's Friend. I still can't stop thinking about Tim's Friend

There are so many talented people in the AHiT fandom, and I feel like we should nurture that instead of being hostile and misconstruing stuff. I'm tired of the discourse, I'm sure everybody's tired of the discourse. I'm really really tired of the discourse

Tl;dr I was wrong and I'm sorry. Let's help out our smaller creators and less popular characters please and thank you. Nobody is trying to make you, but it would be very cool and awesome if you did : )

PS: there is nothing wrong with liking Snatcher. I want to make that clear. It's okay to not care for the other characters, just don't forget about our content creators who don't make Snatcher stuff

My mom just handed me — and I actively ate — pizza rolls with ranch as a dipping sauce. And while it’s certainly small hat considering the time honored elementary school tradition of putting ranch on pizza (which I did not partake in, I’ll have you know), I’d still be interested in hearing @sallietherpgnerd ‘s opinion on just how Cursed this action was, seeing as she lost an eye in the last bloody bout of Dipping Sauce Discoure.

It certainly felt incredibly Cursed, but maybe that was just because it tasted very very bad.

I typically avoid the Discourse like the plague these days but, as an aroace person, personally I stopped caring around the time I went to uni and had actual access IRL LGBT+ spaces for the first time. That was when I realised that 'aces aren't lgbt' really only makes sense if your definition of 'lgbt' is purely theoretical.

Exclusionists arguments will 99% of the time treat the whole thing as a kind of thought experiment. "If the category 'LGBT+' contains all people who experience oppression based on their orientation and/or gender, but not all people who experience oppression, how can we prove whether ace people are oppressed for being ace?"

Most people I've seen on here trying to seriously argue against aspec inclusion will act like it's simply a matter of proving that X != Y, and if people would just understand their logic then there would be no argument.

But the LGBT+ community isn't a purely theoretical category. It's, wait for it, a community.

The answer to "are ace ppl lgbt" in most IRL LGBT+ spaces will often be something along the lines of "yeah, sure, talk to X if you want more info, we're doing an event in a few weeks and also there's a groupchat you can join".

The answer put forward by most LGBT+ organisations and charities is "yes, here's some resources that we made specifically for those groups."

The answer at literal Pride events tends to be "yeah, what did you think those giant ace and aro flags were for?"

The response that I've got from most of the LGBT+ people that I've encountered just randomly as part of living life has been of the "oh cool! Same/similar hat!" variety.

Like at this stage the ace discoursers are basically campaigning for a world in which some teenager with the word 'aphobe' in their url who spends all their time sending anonymous suicide bait to other queer people and is about three steps away from becoming a full-on terf is 100% considered part of the LGBT+ community, but the fucking Trevor Project isn't, because they include ace people.

(Fun fact! When the Trevor Project first started training its staff in how to address aspec identities, there were Tumblr exclusionists who literally emailed in to complain, and encouraged others to do so, because they were worried it was the first step to turning all the gay kids ace or something.)

I fucking hate the exclusionist movement and I do think it did a lot of damage to a lot of people.

I hate that when I was a teenager first trying to explore my identity online, one of my earliest introductions to asexuality was a bunch of posts telling me that I was a pedophile, or a gay kid being preyed upon by evil adults, or a straight person trying to 'infiltrate' the community.

I hate that I was made to feel anxious about accessing resources and spaces that were literally meant for me to access, because I'd been made to feel like I would be unwelcome.

I hate that I was ever made to feel like I wasn't allowed to be proud of or find joy in my orientation, because despite feeling like a freak and worrying that I was never going to be able to find happiness, I wasn't deemed to have 'suffered enough' and so should basically just shut up about it.

But, as a movement, it's pretty clearly failed. Aspec just are LGBT+ these days. The only people still fighting are those who are either completely misguided as to what the LGBT+ community actually is, or who are into it more for the thrill of getting to cyberbully people for a “righteous cause”than anything else.

My main two pieces of advice for any young aspec (or Questioning) people who follow me would be:

A) don't base any of your decisions about whether to get involved in the IRL LGBT+ community on ace exclusionists, as you are highly unlikely to encounter any in the real world and most organisations/groups won't tolerate them (if you're really concerned, check their website. Most will specifically mention aspecs somewhere, or include the 'A' in their acronym).

B) Block the #ace discourse tag. Block #ace discourse, #ace disk horse, #acecourse, #exclus, #exclusionists, etc. Block every variation you can think of. Block the account every user you see posting about that shit. You can apparently block people who are on anon as well, so do that. If you're in the habit of seeking this stuff out to hateread/debate it, then set yourself the challenge of not reading or engaging with any of it for at least a month.

Genuinely adopted both these policies within the past year or two and I have never been more confident or happy about my identity.

i just need to take a moment to say that as someone who used tumblr too much in my formative years and then actually got therapy from an older gay man and realized through him that ace discourse only matters to people who are not actually participating meaningfully to the community. im being serious, if any of my followers are ace exclusionists especially if youre still participating in the discourse you need to just let it go and let people live their lives. ace people being in the community actually doesnt hurt anyone and youre getting mad at made up scenerios. the root cause of this is because you feel like ace people havent earned their right to the lgbt community, they havent suffered enough, but you know what exactly that is? its the same shit transmeds do when they talk about non dysphoric trans people. you have this hatred because youve been wronged by the world and you're frustrated about it but that doesnt mean other people should suffer too. asexuality is inherently divergent from the expected experience that humans should have according to a heteronormativity society and whether you think its meaningful or not they do face discrimination for it. you can claim its just misogyny all you want but thats also a good chunk of what homophobia, transphobia, and lesbophobia is as well. its all interconnected thats just how it works. it doesnt matter what the source is, ace people are facing bigotry regardless of gender and even if its "not as bad" as other forms of discrimination within the community it still matters. dividing the community like this only makes it harder for us and once you realize that you dont have to believe these things your life gets a lot better.

ordered at the traiteur’s rue du faubourg St. Honoré, a fricandeaux de veau à l’oseille, and a dish of spinach, and a Charlotte Russe (vide Monday) – went to Michel’s to inquire for Seville oranges – referred to Mobotton and Tavernier, 353 (bis) rue St. Honoré – had none at present – would have next week – about ten sols a piece – but they made marmalade – ordered a pot at 6 /50 – walked forwards to no. number 4 rue du Marché St. Honoré – paid Madame Cor for my hat which came last night – In returning along the rue St. Honoré bought some good oranges at 0/25 –

dinner at 6 1/2 – (ordered at 6) – soupe roast beef, and fricandeau de veau, and potatoes and stewed spinach – cream cheese, and fromage de Hollande, and salad – 6 plats of dessert on the table (Charlotte Russe, oranges, almonds and raisins, chinois and stewed prunes) and biscuits, and macarons, and raisinet on the sideboard – bottle of beaune and 1 ditto Chablis – Crême de Café, and 1 cup of coffee each about nine (no cream) just before leaving the dinner table –

Il sera également plus difficile de débuguer et de récupérer des informations sur les pannes car les applications Serverless ne stockent pas d'état, disent les experts. Les développeurs auront donc besoin de nouveaux outils. Les architectes d'entreprise, de leur côté, auront une responsabilité : créer des schémas directeurs et de la documentation pour les tests et les déploiements, au risque d’être confrontés à la fragmentation de l’architecture.

#MeTwo pour les "deux cœurs"

Si la Fédération allemande de football (DFB) a rejeté les accusations de racisme, rappelant que pendant des années elle avait aidé à l'intégration de joueurs d'origine étrangère, ces propos ont néanmoins inspiré plusieurs Allemands, immigrés de première ou deuxième génération. Avec le hashtag #MeTwo, en référence au mouvement #Metoo mais surtout aux "deux cœurs", "un allemand et un turc", que l'ex-joueur de la sélection nationale a revendiqué, ils ont été des milliers à partager sur Twitter leurs expériences du racisme au quotidien.

Lancé mercredi 25 juillet par Ali Can, un jeune militant antiracisme de 25 ans arrivé en Allemagne en 1995, #MeTwo s’est hissé en tête des tendances Twitter en Allemagne en seulement 48 heures avec des témoignages portant pour beaucoup sur les discriminations subies à l'école, au travail, ou lors de la recherche d'un logement.

L'affaire Özil est d'autant plus sensible que l'Allemagne connaît un essor sans précédent de l'extrême droite et que le pays est en proie à un vif débat sur la question migratoire après l'arrivée de quelque 1,6 million de migrants depuis le milieu de l'année 2014, comme l'indique l'agence Reuters. Comme pour éteindre la polémique, un porte-parole de la chancelière Angela Merkel avait précisé au lendemain de l'annonce de départ du joueur de foot que la majeure partie des quelque trois millions de Turcs qui vivent en Allemagne sont bien intégrés.

Toujours selon Reuters, une enquête menée en juin par le Centre des sciences sociales WZB de Berlin montrait pourtant que les personnes d'origine turque, comme tous les autres groupes de migrants, souffraient de discrimination à l'embauche.

Susciter "un débat constructif"

Le ministre allemand des Affaires étrangères Heiko Maas avait dans un premier temps refusé de prendre au sérieux les justifications du joueur de football. "Je ne pense pas que le cas d’un multimillionnaire qui vit et travaille en Angleterre nous renseigne sur la situation de l’intégration en Allemagne", avait-il déclaré, selon des propos rapportés par le journal Le Monde.

Mais devant le nombre de messages publiés sur les réseaux sociaux avec le hashtag #MeTwo, il a finalement réajusté son discours: "À ceux qui pensent que le racisme n’est plus un problème en Allemagne, je recommande la lecture de l’ensemble des tweets publiés sous le hashtag #MeTwo. Il est impressionnant et douloureux de constater combien de gens ont ici décidé d’élever la voix. Mêlons-y la nôtre : contre le racisme, tout le temps et partout", a-t-il souligné sur Twitter le 27 juillet.
