Not related to the other two Bio!mom Harley AUs that I did. Just... similar. I wrote this instead of sleeping, as per the usual.
—*—*—*—*—*
“I need your help.”
No accent, no threats of violence, no beating around the bush (figurative or otherwise). No fighting or unconscious bodies.
Just Harley Quinn with her hair down, no makeup, and completely serious, in the center of the Bat Cave. Even though her usual exaggerated Brooklynn accent (circa 1950s) had become a pretty inseparable part of her personality over the years, every now and then she forcibly stuffed it down and used her mostly unaccented voice. The one reminiscent of days with less colors on her face, a high bun, and a pristine white lab coat.
Every single one of the Bats and Birds present, fresh from an interrupted patrol thanks to her, could count the number of times they had seen Harley like this on one hand. Bruce would have the most recollections, but everyone else would have plenty of fingers left on said hand. So they all knew, especially when Bruce willingly pulled down his cowl so he could look Harley in the eye, that this was the start of something they were not likely to forget. And maybe their chances of survival were slim too.
“Harley,” Bruce’s voice was still gruff, seeing as he was still mostly Batman at the moment, but his eyes were soft. “Maybe you should tell us what you need help with first. And sit down. You look exhausted.”
Sure enough, there were dark circles under Harley’s eyes. She let Bruce-man lead her over to one of their debriefing tables and sit her down. She let out a huge sigh, her fingers tangling in her loose blond locks.
“I have a confession, and it isn’t gonna leave this cave, capiche?” The slight return of her accent relieved a little of the tension, but not much. Taking this as their cue, the rest of the bats spread out into their usual seats at the table. Bruce stayed near Harley, keeping a hand on her shoulder in silent support. Harley didn’t continue talking until he gave her a solemn nod in agreement. She gulped— an action that immediately returned the tension.
“... fifteen years ago, back when I was still with Joker, I disappeared off the Gotham scene for a few months. I’m sure a few of you remember,” she looked up, and a couple of the older vigilantes nodded. Really, Jason has still been Robin back then. But the memory stuck out in his head now that he was thinking about it.
“Yeah, you were breaking away from him a little bit, which was weird at the time,” Red Hood mused aloud, arms crossed. “I think you helped us out a couple times and did some of your first team ups with Ivy before you vanished. Then a few months go by and you were back in action with Joker, so we mostly ignored it as you just being you.”
Harley nodded. “Ah, my Ivy’s a lifesaver, even back then. She helped cover up the timeline by keeping me in action for longer than I should’a been without putting me at too much risk.”
“Timeline…” Red Robin spoke up, eyes huge even behind his mask. “You don’t mean—“
“Harley,” Bruce breathed, having also caught on. “You were pregnant?”
The air went still. Harley sniffed, eyes watering even as she smiled.
“Oh yeah. Shouldn’t have been possible, ya know? Me ‘n Joker being dumped in that damn acid should have made us both more sterile than an operatin’ room. But I knew I couldn’t raise a kid, so after she was born—“
“You kept her?” Damian interrupted, earning a gentle cuff over the head from Dick. Harley just snorted.
“Yeah. Not gonna lie, I thought about abortion. But the baby didn’t do nothin’ wrong, and I was still in love with Joker back then so I was ecstatic that I was able to make something new with part ‘a him in it. Still, I knew a baby didn’t deserve to be raised in Gotham. Especially not my baby, not with my enemies and history. Not with who her father was. I knew he’d never want her, never let me keep her. So I spent the last five months of my pregnancy lookin’ around for the best possible family to take her in. And I found them in Paris, France. A sweet couple, both of them bakers. Sabine, she’s both adorably sweet and super kickass. Comes from a Chinese family that is crazy about teachin’ their women martial arts. But nothing shady about it, I triple checked. Just bonding through kicking people in the face. Which is perfect, I wanted my baby to know how to defend herself. I knew she’d need those skills eventually. And Tom, that’s Sabine’s wife, he’s a gentle giant. Same size as Bane, but as harmless as a puppy and makes the best croissants ever. Seriously, the best.”
“Harley,” Bruce gently prodded, but there was a tiny grin on his face. Seeing her behaving so… so normally, so proud and reminiscent, was a rare treat. Bruce would be lying if he said he wasn’t proud of how far the woman had come. How she had freed herself and become a better person, mostly on her own.
“Right, right. The point,” Harley took a breath, rubbing her forehead. “I came clean to Tom and Sabine, but apparently they knew who I was the whole time. They just didn’t care— did I mention they are perfect? Anyway, once I explained everything, they agreed immediately to adopting my baby. They’d been wanting kids, but it would’a been too risky for Sabine’s health. That’s how I found them anyway, they were in the market to adopt. We named her Marinette. She took Tom and Sabine’s last names, hyphenated. We decided Quinn would be her middle name. And after that, I came back to Gotham and told myself that she was in good hands and I needed to forget about her. Cuz I was no good for her. I knew that. I went back to my old tricks. And then…” Harley chuckled, but it was self-depreciating.
“Then a few years passed, and I started breaking away from Joker for real. Then we broke up, I blew up Ace Chemicals while you guys were outta town doing Justice League and Young Justice shit. I started dating Ivy. And—“ she smiled softly at the table, clearly seeing something the rest of them couldn’t. “Then Ivy convinced me to go see her. Visit my baby, see how she’s been. And I did. Marinette was seven years old, but damn it to hell she was gorgeous. And say whatever you want about me and Joker— most of it will even be true— but neither of us are stupid. And she inherited all of our intelligence. All of it. She got my blue eyes. But she got his hair, which meant Sabine teased me relentlessly about ‘are you sure she isn’t that Wayne’s kid?’ And don’t make that face Bruce, you’d be lucky to have a kid half as beautiful as my Mari-pie. No offense, Damian. Anyway. Anyway, this is the important part. Or part of it.
“She sat there and listened to everything I had to say. Everything. A little seven year old, who could barely understand English at the time, and she listened without interrupting once. She never threw a fit, she wasn’t angry or confused. I told her about the things I’d done in the past— well, G rated versions— and she didn’t care. She called me Momma Harley right away, said she wanted to meet Aunt Ivy sometime soon, and started telling me everything about her that I’d missed. From that day on, she became my sunshine. The light of my life, and I still call her at least once a week every week. When I disappear for a few days out of the city? I’m visiting her—“
“You’re banned from international travel, Harley,” Dick scolded, but he sounded way too amused for it to work. He knew she had her ways, anyway. Nobody could actually stop Harley damn Quinn from doing whatever she wanted.
“—Ugh, she tells me the same thing every time! Disappointed glare and everything. I don’t know how I gave birth to such a goodie goodie, but somehow I did. Not important though! The important thing is, I’m always the first to hear when something new happens in her life. And we had decided that she wouldn’t visit me in Gotham until she was at least eighteen, but apparently she disobeyed me— which I should have expected honestly— and entered you guys’ WE international scholastic competition.”
“Oh no,” Bruce pinched the bridge of her nose. “Marinette Dupain-Cheng? The contest winner?” He finally pulled out a chair and sat down. “The winner gets an all-expense paid trip to Gotham for them and their whole class.”
“Exactly!” Harley threw up her hands. “Mari told me last week, and I’ve been trying to talk her out of coming ever since. But she’s inherited both of our stubbornness too, and she isn’t budgin’ a bit. ‘Momma Harley, I wanna see you and Auntie Ivy though!’ And ‘Momma, Gotham’s nothing I can’t handle,’ or my favorite, ‘Maybe you’ll finally get to see me dropkick someone three times my size then, and I’ll prove it.’”
“So that’s what you meant by you need our help,” Tim said as he leaned forward over the table. “Joker just broke out of Arkham yesterday. You want us to protect her.”
“I’d prefer if one of you was with her outside of the mask too, as often as possible,” Harley confirmed. “I can’t stop her from coming here anymore, but I also don’t trust Joker for a second. As soon as he sees her, I’m afraid he’ll make the connection.”
“She looks like him?” Damian asked, scrunching up his nose at the ugly mental image of Joker as a teenage girl. Harley shook her head, solemn.
“She looks like a dark-haired mini-me,” she corrected. “She even keeps her hair in pigtails as her way of showing support for me. And I know Marinette can kick ass, Sabine’s trained her well. But Marinette inherited more than I’d like from me,” Harley ran a hand through her hair. “I didn’t notice it until she was thirteen. She got a crush on a classmate, and it was almost like watching videos of me back during the early days of— well, of Harley Quinn. Just without the crime and insanity. She didn’t even realize that she was almost stalking the poor kid until I pointed it out, and luckily I was able to put my doctorate to good use and we nipped that right in the bud ASAP. She never meant it that way, anyway. As soon as I explained things to her, she was horrified and immediately asked me to help her learn how to have a healthy relationship. That was a fun discussion,” Harley grimaced. “But she still gets attached to people really, really easily. Once she grew out of her crush on that boy, she adopted him as her unofficial brother. She already calls Selina “Auntie,” even though I’ve barely mentioned her to Marinette. She gets attached fast, and deeply. And I’m afraid that even after all the warning I’ve done, all the stories I’ve told her—“
“You’re afraid she’ll get attached to Joker just like you did,” Bruce finished for her, closing his eyes. “Because she knows he’s her father.”
“Yes,” Tears were slowly dripping down her face already, her hands curled into fists so tightly that her knuckles were paper white. “You know how he is. If he finds out she’s his biological daughter, he’ll immediately try to take advantage of that. And he’s far too good with his words for people like me and Mari. I’m worried outta my mind. Please. Help keep my baby safe from him.”
“We will,” Jason no longer had his helmet on, or the domino mask that he usually wore underneath it. All of them knew masks were merely formality with Harley nowadays. And he needed to look her directly in the eye so she could see how serious he was. “I can sign up as a bodyguard for the class. It won’t be weird, seeing as they’re tourists and this is Gotham. They also have several rich kids in their group if I remember right.”
Bruce nodded, agreeing with Jason. “That’s a good idea. I can lead the class on their tours of WE personally. That’ll serve the purpose of keeping an eye on her and shutting up the investors that keep begging me to make more public appearances for the sake of the company. Marinette’s name is already released to the news as the winner of the contest, so we can’t keep her out of the spotlight long. Tim, you’ll have to keep an eye on any and all pictures of the class. Try to erase or doctor the images with her in it well enough that connections between her and Harley can’t be easily made. Dick, you and Damian will be in charge of keeping an eye out for any activity from Joker. The slightest hint, and you notify all of us. We’ll decide on a case-by-case basis who is necessary to stick with the class and who goes after the clown.”
“She’s gonna sneak out of her hotel to stay with me and Ivy,” Harley admitted, bringing the (now slightly judgemental) attention back to her. She raised her hands up in surrender. “She didn’t tell me that, and I didn’t approve or suggest it! I just know my baby too well to not realize that that’s her plan. Could ya provide an escort?”
Bruce sighed. “This is gonna be an eventful month.”

Helping You With Your Chronic Pain ~ Kim Namjoon
Tumblr media
Your eyes opened feeling Namjoon’s presence join you under the duvet, he had an apologetic smile on his face when he saw you stir, slipping his hand into yours. You smiled weakly back at him, trying to ignore the pain you felt in the back of your leg, a pain that had been nagging you for most of the day.
You tried hard to ignore it, with Namjoon at the studio all day, you had to look after yourself and forget about the pain, but he could tell straight away by the look in your eyes that something was wrong. His eyes studied your expression, feeling your leg move slightly underneath the duvet to get comfortable.
He was quick to fall to sleep when he laid there, he didn’t want to push the matter until you brought it up, whilst you laid awake for hours, staring up at the ceiling, unable to fall back to sleep without suffering from the pain in your leg.
Everything was tried, stretching it, bending it, any position you tried, the pain was a constant remainder with you, restraining you from doing except for stay wide awake.
It was the worst day you’d had in a while, your pain would come and go in waves, but tonight was unlike anything you’d experienced in quite some time.
You sighed as the clock passed four, carefully placing your feet to the ground, sitting yourself up to leave Namjoon to sleep in peace. You slipped into the bathroom through the small crack of the drawer, spotting the box of tablets you always left out in cases like these.
It was nigh on impossible for you to walk across to the unit, your frame dragged your leg across tor reach the box, looking around the room for a spare bottle to drink from. Your eyes fell on one on the windowsill, just above where you could reach.
Your eyes rolled knowing that Namjoon would have been the one to leave it there, stretching across as best as you could to reach it. Fingertips grazed the side of the bottle, watching it fall and land on top of the sink, bouncing to the floor.
It was enough for Namjoon to stir in the other room, he sat up instantly spotting that you weren’t beside him, jumping out of the bed to find you leaning against the side of the bathtub, as the bottle rolled in front of his feet.
“Why didn’t you wake me up if you wanted something?” He asked, picking up the bottle.
He walked over to fill it up, passing it across to you in order to take your pain relief. “I didn’t want to disturb you when you got in so late, you needed to get some rest.”
“I can’t rest knowing you’re in pain, I knew earlier something was up, you just didn’t want to tell me.”
His arm wrapped around your waist, moving so you could sit properly against the side of the bed, taking the bottle once you’d drunk, placing it on the ledge. He had a weak smile on his face, shaking his head at the smile on your face.
“You’re terrible sometimes, you know that I would have looked after you earlier,” he scolded, pressing a kiss to the side of your face.
Your shoulders shrugged, as much as you knew he was there for you, you didn’t want to trouble him and worry him, so you tried hard to deal with all of the pain yourself. It was never easy, but Namjoon had things to worry about too.
You rested your hands against his side as you waited for a few moments for the beginning signs of the pain easing, you couldn’t help but sigh in relief as the pressure left your leg, your movement was no longer restricted, and finally you could move again.
“Shall we head back to bed?” He asked as he noticed your shoulders drop, a sign that you were relaxing, “I’ll bring some more tablets with me too.”
You nodded, as you began to walk, a pair of hands soon appeared on your waist making you jump. “I can walk for myself Joon, you don’t need to worry about helping me.”
“You’re not fine, that’s why we’re here.”
“I’m better now.”
“You’re not perfect though,” he continued to challenge, pushing the door open, “until your pain goes then I’m going to continue staying right by your side and taking care of you.”
Your eyes rolled as he eased you down onto the mattress, laying down beside you, tugging your body into his. An arm wrapped securely around your waist, his head leant against the top of your own, lips lingering against your forehead.
“Get some sleep Joon, I promise that I’m feeling better,” you told him, refusing the affection that he tried to give you, “you’ve got a hectic day tomorrow and I’ve already kept you awake for too long with all of this.”
His head shook, his lips scattered several kisses against the side of your face to quieten you, his heart was full of concern, that was never going to go away even if you were going to be stubborn and try and pretend to convince him that you were fine.
“You’re too cute sometimes,” you sighed, eventually caving into him.
A light giggle escaped him, “I’m just trying to distract you from everything, I’m not even tired anyway, I’ll stay up all night long if it keeps you smiling.”
His leg moved across to rest over yours, the light brush of his skin against yours brought a smile to your face, Namjoon couldn’t help but laugh, the sheer torture the same spot had bought you not fifteen minutes ago had become a hot spot for your happiness and laughter.
“Why don’t I see about spending a bit more time here tomorrow, just so I can make sure you’re better, it’s your birthday tomorrow, we can’t have you in pain,” he reminded you, running his hands through the loose strands of hair.
“I’ll be fine by then; you don’t need to worry about me.”
He smiled down at you, there was no way that he was going to let you suffer on your birthday, he had a lot planned, months had gone into organising everything so that it was perfect, there was no way he was going to let your pain get in the way.
“Try and get some rest and forget about all the pain for a while, and if you need something, shake me,” he continued to tell you, despite your protests that you were fine. “I’m happy to wake up if you need anything at all.”
“There’s not much I can do sometimes, I just learn to get on with it, tonight has just been one of those bad nights," you assured him, "I'll get better."
He nodded, kissing the top of your head, for all your stubbornness, he was also very aware of the fact you were grateful for him constantly being around you.
“Try and get some sleep, it’s the last sleep you’ll get before your birthday, and there is no way I’m going to let any of this ruin anything.”
“I’m excited to see what you’ve got planned seeing as you’ve teased me about it for the past two months,” you giggled, “please get some sleep too though, don’t check on me.”
“I’ll sleep if you sleep, how’s that?”
“It’s a deal.”

Witch Hunt
„That doesn’t make any sense!” Spyro was marching from left to right, shaking his head. “Why would Hex work with Malefor and attack innocent people?”
“We saw her transform those molekin into the same monsters as the mabu you found, it was her all along.” Knight Light wasn’t sure why, but he had no doubts about Hex being behind all this.
“Why would she do that?” Spyro stopped and considered all the odds. “What if Malefor is controlling her as well?”
“She didn’t have black eyes.” Smash Hit, sitting on a chair with his arms crossed, was looking straight forward and talked. “She looked at us and then disappeared.”
“Malefor must have convinced her to join him after all.” Stealth Elf argued. “She spent months with him, who knows what he told her.”
“Guys, I’m sure there’s a reasonable explanation for this. It has to be a misunderstanding.” Cynder was probably the most shocked to hear the news. Hex was one of her closest friends, she was always like a sister to her. For her to join the side of their mortal enemy, unimaginable. “If we could just talk to her-”
“Talk to Hex? Good luck with that.” Stealth Elf hissed. “She’s always been distant from us. I’m honestly not surprised that she would turn out to be evil.”
“You don’t know what she’s been through!” Cynder couldn’t stand by and listen to all those accusations. Someone had to defend the Undead Skylander. “We’re to blame as well! We left her with Malefor all this time and just ignored the problem instead of facing it!”
“We had more important things to do!” Stealth Elf turned around and looked the furious dragon in the eyes. “She went with him willingly. She’s the only one with the power to keep Malefor at bay, what were we supposed to do?”
“Calm down!” Smolderdash stepped between the rage engulfed Skylanders. “Fighting over this will not solve anything. We have to do something.”
“This outcome is logical.” Gearshift spoke and directed all attention to her. “Hex has spent centuries in solitude, rejected by society. Her lack of companionship among the Skylanders and cold nature increased the likeliness of her eventually turning against everyone.”
“You know, I never understood why people are so scared of her.” Roller Brawl was sitting on top of a golden fence at the side of a small bridge in the Academy. “I’m a vampire with actual roller blades, yet no one seems to mind me.”
“Everyone has a reputation RB.” Cynder has been thinking about that issue a lot, and she had her own theory on it. “Everyone used to be afraid to death of any undead, but seeing more and more undead Skylanders and other harmless undead creatures, things changed. Even I got accepted at some point.” Cynder could feel her mouth forming a smile after talking about the positive changes that came from such a dark place. Yet that smile soon faded away. “But Hex… there were always rumors surrounding her, about Malefor and making deals to gain more power. And besides that, she just has this eerie presence. Even I felt unsettled at first.”
“That’s what I’ve been saying!” Stealth Elf used the opportunity to convince the others of her mindset. “We have to get to the bottom of this, isn’t that right Spyro?”
Spyro didn’t even listen to the elf, he could only think about Hex. He made it his duty to make every Skylander feel comfortable and part of the team when he became the leader. Even though she always avoided contact, he did get to talk to the witch a few times. She was aloof, never showing a smile or being considerably kind, but sometimes he could see something in her eyes. A looming sadness, as if she had lost something a long time ago.
“Spyro?” Stealth Elf pulled the dragon out of his trip down memory lane.
“Of course.” He looked through the group of patient eyes waiting for an order. “We will find Hex and talk to her. We won’t attack her until we know what’s going on, she’s still one of us.”
Everyone nodded in agreement, even Stealth Elf found that to be the most sensible option, though she was always ready to fight.
“I’ll come with you, maybe seeing a fellow undead will make her realize that she isn’t alone.” Roller Brawl got off the fence and sharpened her skates on the rock floor underneath.
“I’m coming too.” Smolderdash grabbed her whip which she had put to the side and was ready for a new mission.
“Knight Light?” Spyro looked over to the angelic human, expecting him to tag along as usual.
“You know it.” The Trap Master pulled out his scimitar and spread his glorious wings.
“Then let’s go Skylanders!” Spyro headed out, followed by the group of heroes. Gearshift and Smash Hit stayed behind. The warsupial has been awfully quiet since their fight with Malefor and sported wounds all over his body.
“You should visit the hospital to have your wounds looked at.” Gearshift advised the Supercharger.
“I’ll sit it out, I don’t need some potions and rainbow magic.” Smash Hit refused.
Gearshift noticed his drastic change in behavior, nothing she hasn’t seen before with other Skylanders. “Suit yourself.” The robot left without another word, leaving the grumpy Earth Skylander alone.
The Skylanders began their journey on an airship. They decided to go straight to the underworld, since Hex and Malefor were only seen outside of it for their brief ambushes. Only a few of the heroes have been to the land of the undead. Of course, Cynder knew the place like the back of her claw and helped navigating the ship. They visited the most prominent places down there but had no luck with finding the undeads. While the others tried to figure out the way, Spyro noticed Cynder retreating to the edge of the ship. It has become a habit of hers to sink into deep and thoughtful moments during such rides.
“Mind if I join?” Cynder turned her head around and smiled after seeing Spyro before the dragon sat down next to her. “You look unhappy.”
“How couldn’t I?” Cynder looked at the dark cave like structures surrounding them. “Something’s wrong with Hex. We don’t know what, but we have to help her. I won’t believe that she’s turned evil until I see it.” The dragoness kept staring at the dark rocks they were passing. The place she used to consider her home seemed so foreign now, like she’s only visited it during her nightmares. “You’ve known her as long as I have, she’s always been trustworthy.”
“She has.” Spyro had to give the witch that. Yet he wasn’t innocent when it came to judging her. “But she’s been down here for months and we…”
“We didn’t help her. She has every right to be mad.” Cynder understood what the witch went through, since she also spent such a long time with Malefor in the underworld. “The Skylanders never leave anyone behind, that’s one of the first rules and we broke it.”
“There was nothing we could do. Malefor is invincible and Hex was the only one who could restrain him.” Spyro repeated the things Stealth Elf said earlier that day. And even though he didn’t want to admit it, he also wanted to forget about the dragon king. “Not to mention that we had the Golden Queen to worry about.”
“And what good did that do? She didn’t do anything while Hex was down here suffering and Malefor plotted his next steps.” The purple dragoness sighed. “I know what that’s like.”
Spyro put his paw on Cynder’s shoulder to show her that he’s there for her and that he will do everything he can to fix this.
“We’re here!” Smolderdash exclaimed upon reaching the next destination – Malefor’s throne.
The Skylanders all gathered at the front of the ship to take a look at the ancient monument. It was a giant chair, large enough for a dragon like Malefor to sit on, made of dangerously sharp rocks at the top to intimidate anyone who dares to come here. A single opening above let a dim pillar of light fall onto the throne, making it appear even more glorious and threatening.
The ship landed and the six Skylanders set foot on the cold dark ground in front of the cliff the throne was positioned on. They carefully observed the area, looking for any sign of life, which wasn’t an easy task in the underworld. Suddenly a purple cloud of smoke appeared right in front of the throne. All eyes were fixed on it before it vanished, and a familiar figure emerged.
“Hex!” Cynder cried out to her friend, who floated in place without a hint of emotions. “I’m so glad you’re okay!”
Hex looked at the Skylander who came running towards her. “It’s good to see you again, Cynder.” The dragon’s smile eventually faded when the sorceress continued. “Again, after letting me rot here for months.”
Cynder didn’t know what to say. Hex was rightfully angry, and there was no justification for the Skylanders’ dismissiveness. The rest of the team joined Cynder’s side and stared at the witch, who was clearly displeased to see them.
“Hex, what happened? What’s with all those possessed people and Malefor?” Spyro was hoping that Hex would have a reasonable explanation, but after everything he’s heard, his hopes were low.
“What happened is that I finally realized who I truly am.” Hex had a sinister tone in her voice, one the Skylanders have never heard before. “You must be confused and scared, but that was the point.”
“So you are evil after all!” Stealth Elf had already grabbed her daggers and was ready to strike the witch.
“After all?” Hex repeated that last part. Proof that the Skylanders were just like her old friends and all those ungrateful people she used to protect. “After all the things I’ve done for you? After always putting others first and sacrificing myself for you, I’m evil after all that?”
Spyro gave Stealth Elf a stern look after her reckless accusation. “Hex, let’s talk about this. You’re not evil, you never were.” The dragon desperately tried to calm the witch down after realizing his mistakes and wanted to prevent anyone else from getting hurt. “I know we neglected you and I am truly sorry that things ended up like this, but please think about what you’re doing. It’s not too late.”
“No, it is too late.” Hex made a dramatic pause, leaving the others to wonder what she was about to say next. “It’s been too late a long time ago.” The sorceress began to lift herself further up into the air, looking like she was on Malefor’s throne. “After hundreds of years of me always trying to prove that I am the person I used to be, nothing has changed.” She clenched her fists remembering all the times she was judged and harassed only because of her appearance. “You mortal creatures are so quick to jump to conclusions you don’t even think about what you say or do. After joining the Skylanders I thought the world would finally see that I’m not the villain, but I was wrong. Even you Skylanders didn’t trust me, or simply didn’t care.” Hex then turned her head to direct her sight towards Cynder. “Yet you’ve accepted the Black Dragon.” Receiving angered and somewhat scared looks, Hex continued. “But I kept on trying. It’s true I was never the most eager Skylander, but I always did what was right. And what did I get? Ungrateful looks and hostile mumbles.” Hex descended from the heights she’s reached and floated closer to the ground in front of the throne again. “Those days are over.”
Roller Brawl skated in front of the line of Skylanders and spoke up. She did join Hex on a fair amount of missions and considered her a friend, regardless of her cold behavior. “Going nuts on the Skylands will only make things worse. Please, if you just-”
“Do you think I want to make things better?” Hex sounded almost insulted. “You don’t deserve that. No matter what I did it was always wrong, you would always see me as someone with wicked intentions.” After taking a moment to cool off, Hex decided to get to the point. “No, I will give you exactly what you want, what everyone wanted for centuries. I will be the villain that everyone wants me to be.”
“I’ve heard enough!” Stealth Elf clenched her daggers and sprinted towards the witch.
“Elf, wait!” Spyro shouted after her, but the assassin didn’t listen.
Stealth Elf was running across the dark ground as she approached the cliff. Meanwhile Hex summoned a couple of orbs and aimed them at her, which the Skylander was able to dodge. Before reaching the cliff, Stealth Elf launched herself into the air and was about to strike Hex down with her blades. The witch remained calm and lifted her hand to engulf the elf with her dark magic before tossing her back on the ground.
The team watched in shock as Stealth Elf was trying to push herself up through her painful coughs, but once she did, she was ready to strike again. Knight Light decided to help his ally and ascended into the air before speeding towards Hex as well. The sorceress created a circle of skulls around her waist and launched them one after the other at the knight. He was able to destroy two of them with his scimitar and wings, but the other ones were able to hit and bring him down as well.
“You give us no choice Hex, this has to stop!” Spyro declared before he and the rest of the group joined the fight as well.
Cynder was the only one who stayed behind. She watched in horror as one of her closest friends was shooting down one Skylander after the other. It was hard to see her give in to the darkness, especially since she’s been there as well. “Guys, Hex, stop it! This won’t fix anything!”
“There is no fixing this!” Stealth Elf was thrown backwards and landed right next to the dragoness. She stopped for a second to look into Cynder’s eyes. “Now even you have to see who she truly is.”
Cynder couldn’t argue against that, but neither did she want to hurt Hex. Stealth Elf groaned before jumping back into action.
Smolderdash managed to float at eye height with Hex. The fiery humanoid created a ball of fire before whipping it towards Hex, who stopped it by catching it with her undead magic and transforming it into spectral fire. She threw it back at the Skylander, who was unable to react and got hit by it. After shaking the attack off, Smolderdash dashed through the air while turning her upper body to go after Hex with her whip. The witch was able to move back in time, allowing the whip to create a trail of fire in front of her instead. Hex kept her eyes on the flames. A grim reminder of the day where she was nearly burned alive by those she once trusted. That only fueled Hex’ hatred further and the sorceress aimed at one of the stalactites above Smolderdash, causing it to crumble down onto the heroes.
The Skylanders were able to move aside before it crushed them, but chunks of rocks which broke off managed to hit them nevertheless. Roller Brawl, being the fastest member of the group, was passing all obstacles, attempting to reach Hex. Even though the witch used to be her friend, after what she just heard and saw, the roller jammer didn’t feel the urge to hold back. With her sharp skate blades, she was able to go up the cliff and reach Hex, who gave her another cold look as if she never truly cared about her. Roller Brawl skated as fast as she could and tried to slice the witch with her roller claws to subdue her, but Hex didn’t make it easy. She was floating around Roller Brawl’s movements all while shooting her projectiles. Each orb got closer to hitting the vampire, until one finally did. The Undead Skylander was catapulted down the cliff. Before she hit the ground, Knight Light swooped in to catch the skater and gently put her down.
Spyro used his wings to keep himself in the air. Hex summoned countless orbs and skulls to launch at her former allies. Even though they outnumbered her, the witch’s magic was superior to all their combat skills. She blocked and evaded all attacks and countered with blows that always ended up hitting them. “Stop this Hex!” The leader has had enough of the sorceress’ fury.
While casting her spells, the witch paused to look up at the angered dragon. Once all Skylanders landed on the ground, she proceeded to raise both of her arms and make spiky bones shoot out of the ground everywhere. She was able to catch all the Skylanders besides Spyro and Cynder in between them, interrupting the fight and piercing some of them in the process. Cynder gasped in the background and prayed for the witch to come back to her senses. Hex lowered her arms and glared at Spyro menacingly. “Or what?”
“Or I will make you.” With his deepest and most serious voice, Spyro attempted to stop Hex through intimidation, but she remained unbothered.
“You think you can stop me?” Hex wasn’t the type to gloat, but since she was turning on the Skylanders, she wanted to let them know what they were up against. “Five of you Skylanders were no match for me, yet you hope to defeat me on your own?”
“You leave me no choice!” Spyro inhaled with all his might to charge up the powerful daybringer flame.
When the dragon unleashed the great ball of fire at the witch, she used her powers to color it purple and redirect it behind herself, destroying Malefor’s throne. Hex floated in front of the flickering mix of orange and purple flames, summoning a skull to aim at Spyro. Surprised that she was able to avoid his attack, the dragon was unable to dodge hers and fell to the ground.
The witch looked at the collection of fallen heroes beneath her. Even though she has beaten them all to the ground multiple times, they were still fighting to break free from the bones, and Spyro didn’t give up just yet. Hex soon noticed that Stealth Elf behaved awfully calm and remained inside the bony fortress, even though she could have easily escaped thanks to her agility. When the sorceress saw that there was hay coming out of one of the cuts on the elf’s body, she knew what was going on. Instantly, the witch turned around just in time as Stealth Elf exited her invisible state and pounced towards the witch, her blades gripped tightly. Right before she could strike, Hex reached out to grab the elf by her throat, cancelling the attack and choking her.
“No!” Spyro yelled upon seeing the scene. “Don’t you dare hurt her!”
Stealth Elf was like paralyzed, she was unable to move and couldn’t break free from Hex’ grasp. The witch tightened her grip and colored the Life Skylander’s veins along her neck black. “You will leave the underworld and not repeat another attempt to stop me.” She pressed even harder against Stealth Elf’s throat, who could only release a pained moan. “Or the elf will pay the price.”
“Spyro.” Cynder called after her friend with worried eyes. It seemed as if she suggested that he does as Hex says.
Spyro was angry, but also afraid. He couldn’t let Stealth Elf die, but he had to stop Hex. Time was running out as the black veins spread further across the elf’s body and her skin became paler with each passing second. “We’ll leave! Let her go!”
Just what Hex wanted to hear. She dropped Stealth Elf on the ground, who coughed and breathed hastily as the dark veins faded and her skin gained its color back. Spyro flew up to his friend and picked her up while making deadly eye contact with Hex. The witch moved her hands in a downwards motion to lower the bones around the Skylanders. Wounded and devastated, the team gathered to give their former ally one last disappointed look before turning around and leaving. Cynder stayed a little longer to look at Hex. Unlike the others, she showed only sadness after seeing the transformation of her friend. Finally, Hex turned around and left as well.
Cynder remained standing there until she could hear Spyro calling for her and hurried to catch up with the others. When the Skylanders returned to their airship and were about to head back, Cynder stopped in front of it.
“Cynder, are you coming?” Spyro asked on top of the ship, looking down on his fellow dragon.
“No.” Cynder responded. “I have something to do here.”
Spyro’s eyes widened and he was overrun by a feeling of fear again. “Cynder, please-”
“I have to, Spyro! I know that there’s still good in her!” Even though her actions spoke volumes, the dragoness who once walked the same path as Hex was certain that she could get through to her. “You would do the same thing for me.”
Spyro had dozens of reasons to keep Cynder from staying in the underworld, but looking into her eyes, he knew that he could trust her. And after all, Hex didn’t attack her. With a long sigh, he finally gave in. “Please be careful.”
“I will.” Cynder gave her friend a reassuring smile before the ship set off and the Skylanders left.
Cynder turned back around and stared at the enormous entrance of the place that used to be her home. Malefor used her once and he’s using Hex now, but the Skylander would not give up on her friend that easily.

Fur coat
Soooooo, it’s been far too long since I uploaded one of my own stories here. Trust me, I have about 5 almost finished pieces in my docs, but I am never satisfied with how they are. Enjoy this short piece of my shitty writing, loosely based on a scene from sister act. And just a small note, I’d really appreciate some feedback, I am very curious to hear what you think of this!
Tumblr media
Pairing: Roger Taylor x F!Reader (you can read this as Ben!Roger, I personally just have Roger vibes with this fic) Wordcount: 1700 ish words Warnings: cheating, Roger being an asshole, language, hinted smut and some kissing. 18+ babes, please.
"This was delivered here for you by a Mister Taylor." The man in the door gives you a large box. You grab the box and put it on the table, walking back to the door.
"Thanks sir," You say, sending him a smile and closing the door. Finally you could take off your heels.
"What has he given you this time?" Dory walks towards the table.
"It better be good, he didn't show up at the show!" Sara immediately runs up to your side and to check the box. Roger had promised you a few days ago he would come and watch your show at the pub. It wasn’t much just you, Sara and Dory singing a couple of songs for fun, but you had done this weekly for four months now, and he still hadn’t seen one gig. So when he promised to watch this week you were very happy. The disappointment stung in your chest as you thought of yourself looking around the pub at the start of each song, desperately trying to find his mop of blonde hair, but failing every time.
"Can we open it?" Sara asks. You put the box down on the table. "Yeah, go ahead. I don't care."
You walk towards the mirror in the dressing room and fluff up your hair. Your dress clings just right around your legs, and the dark makeup makes your face look mysterious. Tonight was not the first time Roger let you down. He has been cancelling plans, and you feel like he is taking you for granted. You are quite feld up with his behaviour, and you have been for a while now. The sound of carton ripping has you looking over your shoulder.
"Jesus! Look at that!" Sara stands in the middle of the room with a thick fur coat. "It's beautiful. God this is real nerts fur. It’s so soft." She lovingly strokes the coat, and you shrug your shoulders.
"This is just Roger trying to make up for not visiting the pub tonight."
"Well this could work as a fine apology. It’s beautiful!”
A week earlier
“Roger I have to go, I have a meeting with the pub they want us to play in.”
“Just stay for a few more minutes? I promise you won’t regret it.” he pleads, grabbing your leg when you try to get out of the bed. He looks at you with his big blue eyes, trying to persuade you to stay a bit longer.
“Don’t give me that look, I really should go if I want to change into something more appropriate.”
“Then keep in the clothes you had on this morning. They looked just fine.”
“Dammit Roger. I just-” A sudden wave of pleasure hits you and you moan softly. “What are you doing?”
“Just having a small taste. Y’know, giving you a reason to stay.” He looks up at you, his big blue eyes melting your heart.
“You better make it worth the delay mister Taylor.” You say, a soft sigh leaving your lips when he presses a sweet kiss on your inner thigh.
“I am working on it.”
“So he can give and buy me this, but he can’t return my calls, of come to see our show? He promised.”
“We know. But this is beautiful. You don’t have to forgive him, but you can enjoy this coat. Y/n come and fit it." Sara says.
The coat looks very tempting, all furry and soft, and as Sara wraps it around her you feel the slightest bit of curiosity. Why would he give you such and expensive coat? And more important, how would it look on you? You walk back to her and Sara hands the coat over to you. You put it on, softly stroking the fur with your fingertips. It feels even more expensive.
"Okay maybe this will work as some kind of apology," you say as you nuzzle your face into the soft fabric. Sara and Dory laugh at you. You try to imagine Roger picking out this coat for you. What shop would he have visited? You take the coat off to take a look at the brand. Then your blood freezes.
Clementine Taylor.
Her name was written so neatly on the label next to a very expensive looking logo. Like it wouldn't shatter your heart at the very look of it. "He gave me his wife's coat. Fucking hell." your voice breaks, and you have to try really hard to not start crying.
"Keep it, you deserve it!" Sara says, als she longingly touches the fur again.
"Nobody deserves another wifes coat." You scoff, pain filling your chest. "I am bringing this back to him."
"You can't. What will happen if Clementine is there?" Dory asks shocked.
"That's his fucking problem. He shouldn't have given me her coat." You fold the piece of clothing neatly and put it back into the box, your heart breaking a bit more with each fold.
"Are you sure? You really don't want to keep it? It's been given to you." Dory tries to convince you, but Sara puts a hand on her arm. “Let her choose what to do with it.”
"Very sure I don’t want to keep it. See you girls tomorrow!"
The walk home is worse than other nights. How are you going to return this? The irresistibly beautiful coat feels like a heavy weight in your arms. Are you ready to end it between you and Roger? Admittedly, you are getting enough of his attitude, but you can’t resist him. Too many times you had thought you were gonna break up, only to cancel that plan the second you see him. You put the box next to your door. Tomorrow you were going to have to be strong.
Six months earlier
“Roger you have a wife.” your eyes are big and you look at him, silently begging him to let it go. You shouldn’t even be having this conversation with Roger. Clementine helped you get your job, she even helped you find a decent apartment in London for a very reasonable price. You shouldn’t be thanking her by shagging her husband.
“I know, it’s just… When I am with you everything just falls into place. I can really be myself. I just can’t resist the feeling of freedom you give me.”
“Roger. I-”
“Please” He interrupts you, putting his hands on your shoulders. “I really care about you.” He softly pecks you on your lips again. “You are simply irresistible.” You look into his eyes again and feel yourself cave in to the feeling. Kissing him feels like sunshine after heavy rain, like the fresh air after the heat of some stuffy room. Like jumping into the sea on a hot summer's day. You know you are going to regret this, but why does it feel so good?
The sound of the doorbell was the end of your doubts. Now you had to give it back, no way out of this. The door opens, and a beautiful woman looks at you.
"Hi Clementine." You aren't sure what else to say. As always, you are slightly baffled by the sight of Rogers wife. She is almost ten years your senior, but you think she looks almost younger than you, and much more beautiful.
"Hi Y/n, what brings you here?"
"Ehm. Is Roger at home?" Perhaps you can give this to Roger, let him choose what he does. Doubt comes in much earlier than you thought. Clementine sounds so sweet, why would you have to hurt her. She doesn’t need to know. Come on you need to be strong.
"Yes he is. What's in the box? Did they ask you to drop something off here?" Her face shows concern. She knows your boss often gives you small tasks you don't have to do. God why is she so sweet. How in hell did you end up fucking her husband? Regret fills your veins. It is an ugly feeling, and you feel slightly sickened by your own affair.
“No, it’s not from my boss.”
"Okay I’ll call for Roger first.” She says, before turning towards the stairs and shouting:  “Roger! Come downstairs!" The ruffle of his feet when he runs down the stair is very audible outside.
"What do you-" He sees you and stops in his tracks, "Y/n? What are you doing here?"
"Just dropping something off." You say, trying to sound casual. “And I need to ask you something for next friday.” You lifted the box a bit to indicate you came to drop it off. Clementine peeks into the box, and you open it to show the contents to her.
"That's my coat! How odd. I haven't worn that one in a while." Rogers face goes completely white. You smile at Clementine when she picks the coat out of the box. Clementine drapes it around herself, and smiles thankfully at you. “How come you had it?” Roger sucks in his breath, scared for what you are going to say.
"I found it and it had your name in it. So I thought, let's give it back to the rightful owner." You try keeping your voice steady, and recite the words you thought over a thousand times last night. You smile sweetly, completely ignoring Roger behind her.
"How wonderful. But why do you need Roger?"
"Oh I just have  a small question."
"Okay. Thanks for bringing this back! I’ll give you two some space to talk." She walks back into the house, leaving you at the doorstep, and a baffled Roger in the hallway.
"What the fuck was that?" He is really angry, but his anger is nothing compared to the rage within you.
"Exactly what you deserved, Roger. Be glad I didn't tell her everything we did." You are happy to find that your voice sounds so stern.
"You are unbelievable!"
"Not as unbelievable as you. Quite the sweet gesture, giving me your wifes coat." You keep your voice low, so Clementine won't hear you. "I am so done with your shit Roger. You think you can make it up to me by giving me your wifes coat? To make up for the fact that you broke a promise? Again, may I add?"
"Y/n. Love, I can explain." He almost pleads, the look on his face almost makes you forget about being strong and the whole not forgiving him thing.
"You can explain? Go ahead." He tries to think of something to say, but he doesn’t know what to say, so he stays silent. You laugh bitterly.
"Exactly what I thought. Goodbye Roger Taylor." You turn on your heel and walk away, a feeling of freedom washing over you.

You’ll Be the One to Turn - Part 34: Confrontation
...
Rey returns to the crew cabin she’d claimed as her own and slides the door open. Finn had just gone to talk with Poe, and Rose had followed after him. For the first time since they’d rescued him from the airdrome tower on Taris, she and Ben could be by themselves. Part of her knows this will be the last time for awhile. And it’s that part of her she desperately wants to ignore.
The cabin is dim and dusty, and Ben is lying on the narrow mattress she’s called her bed these past months. She slides the door closed behind her, and, almost unconsciously, clicks the lock. The noise probably would have woken him, but it’s not like she’d been trying for stealth. Just as she can sense him in the Force, dark like the open mouth of a cave, fresh and cool and welcoming, she knows he can sense her warmth and light just as keenly.
He stirs as she crosses the small room, moving just enough so she can do as he anticipates, and she slides in beside him on the bunk.
“How are you feeling?” she says quietly, leaning into him. As she presses closer, he brings his arm around her back, and they lie together, more fully embraced than they’d ever safely managed through their bond.
“Like I’ve been stabbed,” he says staring up at the ceiling. “And lost a lot of blood.”
“You’re hilarious,” she replies, but doesn’t laugh. Her hand is resting on his chest, gingerly avoiding his bandage.
He brings his other hand onto his chest, and takes hers, grasping onto it and holding it tighter against him.
“Like I want to stay here,” he says, answering again. “And not go anywhere for a long time.”
“Better.”
“This is where you’ve been sleeping?”
“I guess it’s easy to forget we couldn’t see each other’s surroundings. But yes, this is where I’ve been sleeping.”
“I used to sleep in here. When we’d go places. This was my room.”
“Now I know why I chose it,” she says, craning her neck up to look at him.
He looks down at her and she stares back up at him. She wonders just how much has been communicated between them just through their eyes. She feels like there’s never been a time she hasn’t known what it was to look into those eyes and lose herself, to see those eyes look on her with wonder and amazement, to feel as though there isn’t anyone else in the world but him, and to know he feels the same.
And she almost lost him forever. The thought of it brings back the panic she felt when she couldn’t find the thread that binds them. She tries to dismiss it, but, looking up into his eyes, and knowing how close a thing saving his life had been, Rey can’t help but give in to a sliver of fear.
“Ben,” she begins, almost whispering. “When I came to you the other night, and we— when we nearly broke the bond. What did it feel like for you?”
He lets out a shaky breath, but doesn’t look away.
“Empty. Meaningless,” he says, slowly, deliberately. “Like I’d lost part of myself that I’d never be able to restore.”
“I felt it, too. I’d never been so frightened. Like I was falling with nothing at all beneath me,” she says, gripping his hand tighter. “I felt the pain when you were stabbed. And now that I know how close you were to— please don’t leave me behind. I can’t. Not alone.”
He pulls her closer still, and she rests her head on his chest, just above his wound.
“I don’t ever want to leave you again.”
“Then don’t,” she breathes.
They lie there. And for a long moment, stretched out over the endlessness of the Living Force, and in the subtlety of how he moves his hand on her back, or the way his chest moves when he breathes, she feels certain that there isn’t any place at all but this tiny room.
Of course, it doesn’t last. Nothing truly can. After a time, a quiet knock comes at the door. Rey gets up, slides it open, and steps aside so Finn can come halfway in.
“Poe wants to talk to him.”
“Not sure I like the sound of that,” Rey says, folding her arms.
“I think— He doesn’t seem upset,” Finn says. Rey shoots him a skeptical look. “He doesn’t seem too upset. Anymore.”
“What does he want to talk to him about?”
“I don’t know. But it’s better than shackles. Or blasters. Or both.”
Rey had sensed Ben stirring to sit up, but hadn’t moved to stop him. He was going to have to be up and walking in any case. He stands a bit shakily, but straightens and walks toward the door.
“I’m not afraid of Dameron.”
“Hey, look,” Finn says, pointing his finger at Ben, “I’m on your side here. But don’t think for a second I wouldn’t choose him over you if it came down to it.”
Ben doesn’t say anything in response. He brushes his hair aside where it had fallen over his face. Rey doesn’t sense any anger from him, and any anger Finn was feeling has faded quickly.
“No one’s saying you’re afraid, Ben,” she says. “But I’m not letting you go to him alone.”
“Let’s get this over with,” Ben says, walking forward slowly, his hand to his ribs.
She puts her hand up, stopping him.
“Where are we going to find you a shirt?”
***
The shirt they’d found was short sleeved and had been a size too small, but at least it was black.
Kylo walks out blinking into the blazing white of the Vedic III day. He can sense eyes on him everywhere. The noise that should be coming from every quarter of the airfield is reduced to the low thrum of idling engines. Fear is the first thing Kylo feels. Fear, then distrust. The people who do show themselves give the three of them a wide berth, and regard them— him especially— with a distinct mixture of terror and wonder. But that was nothing new for him. Indifference— now that would have been interesting.
Rey had convinced him to leave his lightsaber on the Falcon. She’d kept hers clipped to her belt, and she walks beside him, Finn on his right, as they make their way from the ship to the command center.
The inside of the sunken building reminds Kylo of the Crait mine, but with less obvious structural decay. The room where everyone is gathered is a large circular chamber with a holo projection display in the center and raised benches for seating. He recognizes his mother’s taste for Alliance conventions.
The thought of Leia brings unbidden sorrow into his mind, and a thrust of memories descends upon him. Mother giving a speech via holo in their sitting room at his childhood home. Mother arguing with maintenance techs about their malfunctioning house droid. Mother smoothing the tangle of his thick black hair, telling him there’s nothing to be afraid of.
Rey senses him drifting and grabs his hand. He breathes hard and squeezes back before they both let go at once and walk into the war room. There are perhaps twenty people in the room, and dozens of others clustered outside the windows. Kylo walks across the center of the room, and, still clutching his ribs, sits down in the front row opposite the main entrance. Other than Rey and Finn, no one else approaches within ten feet. Rose is sitting off to the side, elbows on knees, hands hanging limp. Chewie stands against the outer wall, by the entrance, arms crossed.
Everything’s quiet. After a few moments of tense silence, Rose stands up, crosses the center of the room, and sits down on the other side of Finn, taking his hand.
Then the silence breaks, and pockets of chatter begin to crop up as Poe Dameron walks into the room. He stops as he approaches the center round, locking eyes with Kylo. Kylo can sense Poe’s anger and fear rising, but there’s something else there. Just under the surface. Grief. And, glimmering distantly, hope.
“Comfortable?” Poe says, gesturing toward Kylo’s wound.
“Funny,” Kylo responds, remembering the last time they met.
“But you’re a funny guy, huh?” Poe continues, pacing. “Because I can’t tell what’s the bigger joke. You being here like this, or me tolerating it.”
“I’m confident you’ll figure it out.”
“Oh, I’m figuring this out all right.”
“Enough, Poe,” Rey says, her voice raised. “Say what you want to say and be done with it.”
Poe turns to her, pointing his finger.
“Rey, no offense, but if circumstances were any different, and I mean any different, I’d have had an X-Wing blast your ship off the tarmac an hour ago.”
“What do you want?” Kylo says, drawing his attention back.
“No, no,” Poe says, shaking his head. Everyone— a hundred people maybe— looks on with rapt attention. “What do you want? Because I’ve been hearing a lot about you not being the same guy you were, or you and Rey having a Force thing, but I haven’t heard why you’re here.”
Kylo stands up and walks toward Poe. There’s a nervous shuffling, and Kylo can hear blaster safeties clicking off.
“You’re thinking about when I pulled the droid’s location from your mind. And you’re thinking that you can’t really trust me no matter what I say or do,” Kylo says, drawing up to full height a pace away from Poe, even though his ribs scream at him. “You’re thinking that even now I’m influencing your emotions. Or maybe that Rey is. Or both of us are. And who’s to say? Maybe you’re right.”
“Ben,” Rey says softly. Kylo flinches, and knows that it’s entirely possible no one else heard it but him.
“What a catch, Rey,” Poe says, circling around to Kylo’s side. “Real charmer.”
“I didn’t ask you, did I?” Rey snaps back.
“Well, this is going great,” Finn says, moving to stand, but Rose tugs on his sleeve and pulls him back down.
“I want to know why I should trust a man who turned his back on his family,” Poe’s voice is rising, and he’s back to pacing in a wide arc in front of Kylo. “I want to know why we should have this guy here with us when he’s tried to kill half of us. It was his torpedo that blew up the hangar on the Raddus. You killed a dozen of my friends that day,” Poe says, crossing back to him, getting closer than before. “I’d ask you if you knew how many of your friends I’d killed, but I don’t think you’ve ever had any.”
“All right,” Rey says, standing up and crossing to Poe. “You got that out of your system. Now ask what you want to ask.”
“No!” Poe shouts. “Not yet. Tell me why. Tell me why you murdered your father. Why you broke your mother’s heart, you goddamn monster. Tell me, because I need to know.”
Kylo’s hand jerks, but he stops himself before he follows through on his instincts. But Poe is already pulling his blaster, and just as he brings it level, it’s slapped away by an enormous paw and Chewbacca is roaring in Poe’s face. Poe stumbles back and Resistance soldiers spring to the ready. Rifles are aimed all around, and the air is thick with anxious fear.
Rey comes around, touching Chewie on the elbow. The Wookiee growls and backs away, his eyes still trained on Poe. All attention is on the woman in the center of the room as she raises her hand, and everything goes silent.
“I need everyone to listen to me very carefully, because I’m only going to say this once, and I’m not going to be quieted until I’m done,” she says calmly, with a firm intensity that seems otherworldly, and although her voice remains low, it carries, and everyone hears it. “You think these are easy questions to answer. They’re not. Most of you don’t know what it’s like to have someone in your head that doesn’t belong there. I do,” she continues, turning to Poe. “And I know you do. And if you think you have any concept of what it’s like to have that feeling every day of your life, even as a child, you’re wrong. So, I don’t give a damn what kind of answers you or anyone else wants, you truly don’t know what you’re asking. At all.”
Kylo looks on in stunned amazement. The sentiment is shared broadly, he can sense. Rey gives Poe a steely glare, turns around, and sits back down.
“So, what do you want us to do, huh?” Poe says, gesturing toward Rey. “Because I don’t know.”
Kylo brings his hand to his chin. He glances back at Rey, and she understands what he intends. She doesn’t have to nod, or show any outward sign of assent, but he knows she thinks it’s best.
“You want to talk?” Kylo says to Poe, summoning as much calm as he can muster. “Let’s talk.”
Long seconds pass. Poe approaches him, hands on his hips, appraising the situation.
“Fine,” Poe says at length. Tensions ease. Rifles are shouldered. “Finn, you stay. Everyone else out.”
***
Rey sits outside the war room in the command center, at one of the empty terminals. After everyone had filed out, Poe had closed the blast doors. Through the windows, she could see them— Ben, Finn, and Poe— standing in the middle of the round, talking. Ben’s arms were crossed low on his torso, and he was standing with military discipline, unmoving. Finn was standing with a hand on his hip, gesturing with his free hand. Poe was pacing, knuckles to his chin. Rey couldn’t sense any dangerous anger, but it roiled there in a threatening churn, and she had resolved to stay and watch.
“Don’t leave him too long alone, Rey,” a familiar voice said below her. Maz hops up on a chair next to where Rey is sitting, and tilts her head, adding, “Poe means well, but Ben is still healing, and he may stumble on his journey back to the Light.”
“Neither of us is ever really alone,” Rey says, looking at Maz and lightly touching her hand to her chest. “Not anymore. I can help him from here. He just needs to know I’m there.”
Maz gives her a knowing smile.
“The Force is the most faithful ally you will ever find,” she says with the same sage sense of revealed truths she projected in her castle months ago. “But it is a poor servant. Take care, child. Know your limits.”
“You know a lot more than you let on, don’t you?”
“When you’ve lived this long,” Maz says, adjusting her goggles, “you either know everything, or you’ve learned how to conceal your ignorance when it counts.”
Rey nods, looking back through the windows. She thinks of how Ben’s thoughts went to Leia right before they went in, and how she’d been able to steady him, as though it were a reflex built into some ancient instinct.
“You felt it, didn’t you?” Maz says, touching Rey’s elbow. “When she passed.”
“I did,” Rey replies, turning back to her.
“She was at peace. She had hope.”
“I could feel that, too.”
“That was your doing.”
She smiles, but the sadness at Leia’s passing, though she had been at peace, is still too near. And when she thinks of Ben, who hadn’t seen her in years, and had thought her dead at least twice before, her heart is heavy.
“It’s why you came here, then?” Rey asks, concluding, “To see her once more.”
“No, child,” Maz smiles and closes her eyes, sighing. “I came here to be what she needed. At the end.”
“I don’t understand.”
“It wasn’t my place to save her. Or to guide her back from where she was being called,” Maz says, climbing down and standing in front of Rey. “It was my place to be here for her, to hold her hand, and to try to find a way to say goodbye.”
As Maz turns to go, Rey feels the gravity of what she just said settle around her shoulders. And as she watches Ben through the window of the war room, she’s touched by the slow creep of dread, even as things seem most hopeful.

Childish, Pettiness, & Stubborness
Summary: Shiroe and I can be really frustrating when it comes to an argument
W: self-insert, fluff, childish behavior
((I do not condone this type of behavior and hate that I wrote myself acting like this but I needed more arguments with Shiroe. Plus, I needed an excuse to show our childish sides lol))
When I am angry, it’s very hard to get me to relax. Especially since I love to be right. It’s a flaw that I have, and I’m always the one to hold a grudge. Mostly because I want to be right all the time. But this time, I was definitely in the right. There was no argument about it, although someone had to fight with me. The one man who hardly ever argues with me about anything, decided that he would stand up to me. This one time, he did it in the worst way possible.
Not only did he snap at me in front of the entire guild, but he also proceeded to piss me off to the point where I refused to talk to him. It had been several days now, and Shiroe and I have not spoken a single word to one another. We exchange glances in the hallway or cut our eyes at dinner, but we have not even said hello since our argument ended the other day.
Everyone else felt extremely awkward when the two of us were in the same room. It’s hard to be mad at someone when you live with several other people under one roof, it’s even harder to be mad at someone who is not only your boyfriend but also your guild master. Everything that needs to be relayed goes through Akatsuki, since she is my best friend and Shiroe’s right hand man-woman. The last time we talked, I remember her telling me to just forgive him, but I couldn’t. Not when I knew that I was right.
Yes, it was pretty petty. In a relationship, the last thing that you want to do is ignore and not communicate. But I was just so angry at him. I wanted nothing to do with him in this moment. Not until he apologized for embarrassing me and talking to me the way that he did. It’s funny, because I started to forget what the entire argument was even about. All I could remember was that I was pissed at him, and I was not going to talk to him until he came to me and said ‘I’m sorry’.
Today I was downstairs, minding my own business when Akatsuki appeared beside me. I was so used to her popping up at random times that I barely even batted an eye. I smiled at her, mumbling a quick hello. I knew why she was here. And she knew exactly what my response would be.
“Ashley, Shiroe wants to see you again,” She said in a mumble sort of way.
“Is it to apologize?”
“He didn’t say. I’m sure that he just wants to talk to you.”
“I’m not talking to him unless it’s to hear an apology.”
“Okay,” She said with a small frown, “I’ll tell him.”
She didn’t seem too happy to be relaying that message, but she knew that there was no convincing me otherwise. We’d been friends long enough for her to know that I’m extremely hard headed and loud spoken. Her and Shiroe know that a little too well, and in situations like this its hard for them to see me so quiet. I’m sure that to them it’s very strange.
She disappeared once again to no doubt listen to Shiroe’s mumbling about how I should just talk to him like an adult. But I was going to be as big of a child as he was being a few days ago. He didn’t have to yell at me in front of everyone. He didn’t have to do the one thing that he knew would set me off. But he did, because he knew that it would push my buttons. He knew just what would make me crawl into my shell and shut up. But this time, I was going to make sure that I won this argument. If I had to ignore him for a month, I’d do it. No matter how hard it may be.
“Are you two really still not talking?” Naotsugu asked, somehow overhearing the conversation.
“I’m not saying a word to him until he apologizes.”
“He’s really in the dog house this time. I didn’t realize you were this mad at him.”
“Of course I am! And I’ll ignore him for as long as it takes. Just look how irritated he is that I won’t just quit being so stubborn.”
“Oh, I know. I’ve had to listen to it a couple of times yesterday. Just give him a little break, okay? Y'know that he’s…”
“Also stubborn?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.
The man nodded his head, causing me to chuckle softly. He wasn’t wrong. That was the one thing that Shiroe and I had in common. We could both be incredibly stubborn when we wanted to be. We seem to think we know best. I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t miss him. I missed him so much. Not talking to him was extremely hard, but I wasn’t about to let him know that. Shiroe would only use that against me somehow. I couldn’t let him or anyone else know that I was caving in to him.
I opened my mouth to speak some remark, when I saw movement out of the corner of my eye. I knew just who those locks belonged to, and I immediately shut my mouth. Naotsugu raised an eyebrow, before putting a sigh when he realized that Shiroe had entered he room.
“I’ll talk to you later,” I mumbled, waking towards the front door.
Some fresh air would do me good right now. I’d be able to be away from him, and I can think clearly without being pissed. I knew that he wouldn’t follow me, which is another reason why I was trying to rush out the door. It was incredibly childish of me, I know that. But giving up would be even worse. I wasn’t going to be the first one to apologize when I did nothing wrong. When all I ever did was give a damn about this relationship.
But before I reached the door, I felt a hand on my elbow and a soft voice in my ear.
“Ashley, will you please stop being this stubborn and talk to me?”
I ignored the eyes that kept staring at me, begging me to say something. I’d never seen him look this way before. It looked almost… apologetic. Swallowing hard, I glanced up at him quickly, before cutting my eyes back to the floor. I tried to force my arm from his grasp, which he only held onto tighter before letting go after another attempt.
It didn’t help that he looked absolutely adorable, looking at me with slightly frustration and pleading eyes.
“I already said I’m not talking to you.”
“Hate to break it to you, but you’re already are talking to me.”
I looked up at him with narrowed eyes, watching him try to hide the twitch of his lips that wanted to form a humorous smile. Mouthing ‘fuck you’, I turned towards the door. Shiroe grasped my arm a little tighter, but not enough to hurt. I sighed rather loudly, taking a quick glance at him from over my shoulder.
He grasped my chin, holding it still between his thumb and index finger. My heart pounded in my chest, noticing how close he was to me. Now was not the time to get soft! Shiroe frowned a little bit, noticing the fight in my eyes.
“Ashley, please? I hate seeing you this mad at me,” He said.
“Then, don’t do stupid crap. Like yell at me in front of everyone.”
“I’m sorry about that. I know it was wrong. But I’m not the only one who’s been acting like a child.”
I breathed a sigh, seeing the seriousness in his eyes. He was right. I had gotten what I wanted, but it didn’t feel right. It felt like the complete opposite. Who knew an apology would feel this bad? I swallowed my pride, taking a step towards him and embracing him. With my face buried in his chest, I began to quickly mumble against him.
“I’m sorry. You’re right. I was being really stupid,” I said.
It took a lot to admit that, but I felt slightly better. Shiroe placed his hand on top of my head, giving it a soft pat. I knew he was doing it on purpose, which is why I didn’t say anything. “It’s okay… I was too,” He said with a laugh.
Lifting my head, I looked up at his soft smile. That’s another thing he and I have in common. We can be pretty childish. It may not be often, but when we want to we can be. “I love you,” I said.
“I love you too,” He said as he pecked my forehead softly, “Now, will you talk to me now?”
“Oh, but Shiroe, I already am.”
He laughed at my imitation of him, rolling his eyes. In one quick motion he tightened his arms around me, causing me to groan and squeal loudly. I had definitely missed this. I couldn’t imagine ignoring him like that ever again.
