#a few broadway songs

Making a wedding playlist for your lesbian wedding is very difficult because you really just want sapphic songs but those are in extremely short supply and a lot of them are very sexual and among the ones that aren’t you only like half of them, but if you have to hear a man singing about love or a woman singing about loving a man you’re going to go insane so you’re just stuck staring at each other until one of you finally says “1812 Overture?” “Yeah we’re adding 1812 Overture”
#and that’s how our wedding playlist ended up including 1812 overture the swan lake theme a few mozart and beethoven and chopin and debussy#half the minecraft soundtrack#most of the spiritfarer soundtrack#2 kh pieces#a few broadway songs#fallout boy p!atd and mcr#a few minecraft song parodies for shits and giggles#discord#o fortuna#bo burnham#kesha#and more!#okay to reblog

Batfam Goes to See Hamilton (Thanks to Jason Todd)
note: based on the fact that i saw hamilton on broadway today!
So, Jason somehow managed to drag the entire Batfam to see Hamilton—because yes, Red Hood is a theater nerd, and apparently, none of them can say no when he’s excited about something. Here’s how it went down:
Jason Todd: Living for it. Jason knows all the lyrics by heart and is practically singing under his breath the whole time. He’s vibing hard to every song, mouthing along to My Shot like he’s in the show. You’d think he was a one-man standing ovation from the way he keeps reacting to every scene. He also goes full nerd mode explaining all the historical inaccuracies and why they don’t matter because the storytelling is incredible.
Bruce Wayne: Very confused, but engaged. He’s trying to get into it, but you can see the gears turning in his head, over-analyzing every political angle and historical context. He does appreciate the themes of legacy, sacrifice, and honor (classic Bruce). He might’ve even shed a few tears during It’s Quiet Uptown, but he’ll deny it forever.
Dick Grayson: Having the time of his life. Dick is the one clapping the loudest, laughing at all the jokes, and crying during the emotional songs. He’s completely caught up in the performance, and by the time The Room Where It Happens comes on, he’s all but bouncing in his seat. He also loves the choreography and probably made a mental note to learn the dances later.
Tim Drake: Secretly loving it but pretending to be indifferent. Tim walked in like he was only going to humor Jason, but by the end of Act 1, he’s fully invested. He tries to keep a straight face, but you can catch him mouthing the words to Wait for It and tapping his fingers during The Room Where It Happens. He’s obsessed with the way the show mixes history, strategy, and storytelling, and he’s definitely taking mental notes on things to google later for a deep dive into historical rabbit holes. After the show, he’s already re-watching bootleg clips on YouTube, but if anyone asks, he’ll just say, “It was fine.”
Damian Wayne: Not impressed. Damian doesn’t see the appeal. He’s sitting there with his arms crossed, giving side-eye to everyone clapping or singing along. “I could’ve done better,” he mutters after Guns and Ships, but you catch him tapping his foot during Yorktown, and he seems unusually focused during the duel scenes. Maybe it’s growing on him… but he’ll never admit it.
Stephanie Brown: Living her best life. Steph is totally into it. She’s laughing at all the jokes, especially King George’s bits, and probably even got Bruce to crack a smile. She’s belting out Helpless and Satisfied in her seat and whispering excitedly to Cass about how they should come back for the next performance. She’s already planning a Hamilton-themed karaoke night after.
Cassandra Cain: Loving the energy. Cass isn’t much for words, but she’s totally feeling the performance. The choreography and intensity of the actors keep her fully engaged. She’s watching every movement with laser focus, and you can see her appreciating the way the actors tell the story through body language. She’s not super vocal about it, but afterward, she signs to Jason that it was “powerful.”
Duke Thomas: Totally into the music. Duke is all about the beats and rhythm. He’s vibing in his seat, really feeling the music and lyrics. You catch him nodding along during Wait for It and The Room Where It Happens, and he’s probably already added the soundtrack to his Spotify. He’s impressed by the storytelling through music and keeps shooting Jason looks like, “Okay, you were right—this is awesome.”
At the end of the show, Jason’s the first to stand up, clapping like his life depends on it, and despite the varied reactions, everyone else follows suit.
#tim drake#jason todd#dick grayson#bruce wayne#damian wayne#stephanie brown#cassandra cain#duke thomas#batfam#the batfam go see hamilton#they all leave with a ne found appreciation for musical theater and a few new songs in their playlists#i just watched hamilton on broadway and it was the greatest thing ever#phillips actor naruto ran up the stairs and i lost it#they did so good like i think the cast did soo good embodying the characters#i already wanna go again#the reactions arent well thought out so i dont think this is accurate to how i think they would actually react ykwim?

Me: I do not care about Descendants enough to watch that new movie. I barely cared when I saw the original ones. Me: *Watches one behind-the-scenes dance rehearsal of Brandy and Paolo* Me: *Silently SOBBING* Me: Ok fine. Fine. I know they have barely any screentime but AH ok. Fine.
#descendants#like legit i KNOW they probably have 10 minutes total of screentime since the movie is about the kids time traveling#but still ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh#also this reminds me of the time i saw Paolo in an off-broadway show (shoutout to Bella: An American Tall Tale)#(very weird show and i was the only person in my musical theatre intensive who enjoyed it)#(look the song The Language of My Nose and Lips and Hair really spoke to me as the only Black girl in that class ok.)#and i remember thinking this man was SO attractive but could not put my finger on why he looked kinda familiar#then at intermission i properly read the playbill and i was like THE PRINCE!?!??!?!?!#since at this point it'd been 20 years since cinderella and the man had not. aged. a. DAY.#oh and a few years prior when Brandy was Roxie in Chicago i went to Stars in the Alley and to this day i'm not sure what came over me#but her coming onstage to sing Roxie made my little tiny child self come to the surface and i SCREAMED in excitement#and my friend was like '...what was that' and i was like '...i have no idea... i didn't realize she'd have this affect on me...'#i really went from 'it's cool she's on broadway. i probably won't see it though.' to ear piercingly high screeching#i think i'm gonna give in and watch this stupid movie. i say 'stupid' affectionately.#because i generally enjoyed the other movies even if they're not my favorite of the DCOMs. but it's really just to see them.

The Last Five Years has been popping up on my FYP on TikTok. Some people are saying Jamie makes some good points (specifically in “If I Didn’t Believe in You”)
Now. I could write an essay on this show, but for now, I’ll say this:
JAMIE IS MAKING “GOOD POINTS” BECAUSE HE IS MANIPULATING CATHY! THAT’S THE SONG!
SHE IS SAYING SHE ISN’T HAPPY GOING TO THESE PARTIES BECAUSE SHE DOESN’T LIKE BEING LEFT ALONE IN A SITUATION THAT MAKES HER UNCOMFORTABLE AND JAMIE TURNS THAT INTO HER NOT SUPPORTING HIM AND HIS WORK WHEN THAT IS NOT THE CASE!
That is all. Thank you.
(I understand this is my opinion and that others can see the song differently)
#I understand that this song can be interpreted a few ways but I always saw it as Jamie self-victimizing#he felt a need to make Cathy seem like the bad one for voicing her problems#the last five years#broadway#musical theater#musical#jamie wellerstein#jeremy jordan#anna kendrick

Modern musicals love to take the most un-musical theatre books and make it into a smash Broadway hit. Oh, you want to make a musical about a reimagining of Oz that explores human/animal rights, terrorism and evil as nurture/nature? A graphic novel memoir about a lesbian’s relationship with her closeted dad who possibly kills himself and her coming of age while exhibiting OCD behaviours? A non-fiction BIOGRAPHY on one of the FOUNDING FATHERS?! All right, ALL THE TONYS!
#wicked#fun home#Hamilton#I haven’t read the biography of Alexander Hamilton but both wicked and fun home are really good books#but lemme tell you I was surprised as a teen reading a book about a little witch child of rape and sectarian and terrorism and wondering how#they got songs like popular out of the material#I eventually saw wicked in uni#I like to think i was one of the few people in the audience that understood the second act but that was only cuz i read the source material#that I could follow it#musical theatre#broadway

you tagged a post as bmc (u were right) and me listening to it this morning…somethings in the water
🫣 i was watching some unrelated tiktok or something and got absolutely brainblasted by a bmc song the other day.. the emotional response that show drags out of me.....
#truly i still think about how wild the fandom was#like i think it all started with connors mitb speedpaint#the fact that it went from just the cast recording to the full audio being leaked to the show LITERALLY getting revived on broadway...#you cannot underestimate the power of tumblrinas#like you gotta consider that it was right up there in popularity with shit like HAMILTON#this mainstream monster of a broadway show. vs a few silly songs and nothing more#what a time to be alive

I wish the mixing on the west end american psycho recording wasn't so abysmal. The bass and instrumentation really did the heavy lifting when I saw it on broadway. But the opening number morning routine still rocks
#i wish they had used more sampling in other songs bc few things convey#the intense materialism and desolate capitalist obsession like sampling advertisements#but i am coming at this from the 'i loveeee concept albums and sampling' standpoint#not the 'i am a rich person and this is my fourth broadway show of the week' standpoint

So sorry to report to my fellow live-action remake haters but... My older sister wanted to go see TLM with me so i did and........
IT'S REALLY REALLY REALLY GOOD
#they clearly took the feedback on the colors and it looks hella pretty now#also the songs sound incredible#also Melissa McCarthy's Ursula... left no crumbs... she ate#sorry my darlings but this one is sheldon approved#even the realitic style on sebastian and flounder wasnt THAT bad.#although be warned there are a few new songs (sadly not from the broadway version 😞) written by lin manuel miranda#scuttle is played by awkwafina who normally i can't stand but honestly was fine bc 'annoying and stupid' is scuttle's whole thing anyway#doll fans who were pumped about the new designs for her sisters im so sorry but they only speak in like three short scenes#but hey at least they make pretty merch#and eric gets more of an actual story/motivation which is nice. it doesnt change the base of who the character is though which is also good#sheldon watches TLM2023

#having this Enrichment when not only is it [i want to see it] but also feeling more liable to Have Posts than like#casually checking up on a recent off broadway limited engagement like Where's The Posts. where's someone's filmed curtain call. hewwo#even a limited broadway production w/its own dedicated twitter account like Hewwo you never finished your thread hellooo#meanwhile out here Regionally like. erika amato our number one poster it seems....checking up on those fb or ig accounts....etc#it's the revelations that can come through these glimpses like ''idk why the guy in ireland with a pbs travel series had some professional#involvement with the show but he posted the pics ft. the first page of Director Notes & scenes / musical numbers list''#or an ensemble member with a cropped pic of a page of sheet music which confirms [orville gets to sing at all including in a song i already#guessed he'd get to participate in based on detective legwork re: that ireland travel series guy's tweet] ft. harmonizing lyrics w/phil#fun to have something that's at a balance of like; i can't be thee most comprehensive but i can And Will do some fairly thorough digging#and i'll do it more than once especially when like [exhaustively checking for all listed cast & creative team's instagrams] done once can#confirm that not all of them as posting regularly (mostly just erika) (but a few others with Any Recent behind the scenes summerstocking)#don't have to try checking in all thee time on the accounts who haven't / don't post recently or at all regularly#and then of course the scraps of info / glimpses are nice for the Yearning To See It experience#summer stock
