6 35/..
11 55/..
Incurred a cross last night thinking of Miss Hobart
Fahrenheit 52˚ at 7 a.m. fair and streets tolerably dry – breakfast – wrote note to Daldring to say I would have the springs strengthened boîtes des roues serrées à chaude etc. to the amount of 288/. – breakfast left my note with George – off at 9 10/.. in passing called and asked the coach maker rue basse close to Monsieur Sénés price of new wheels – 350/ boîtes comprises – went home again to stop my note to Daldring – George had gone off with it – took fiacre drove to Daldring’s – 20 minutes there – at last agreed to pay 400/. for new wheels and use of those I had on the 5th March – he would have it the boîtes were never comprises – agreed to have the repairs done at 288/. – He had changed my new wheels 350/. the usual price he said – shewed me his book [Laffitte] and everyone paid the same, and the use of the other wheels for 2 months was to have been 60/. – He told me at 1st I think the new wheels would be 350/. and the painting would be about 30/.? more – all these people want looking after – agree upon the price beforehand with everybody -
Off from Daldring’s at 9 55/.. – walked – crossed the Pont de Louis 16 sauntered along the quais – went into Lannoy’s (natulariste) near the Pont neuf – his sister there – shewed me 2 small collections of 400 specimens and 120/. each, according to the systems separately of Brongniart and Haiiy – a long time there – nice, civil woman – said they had a real goût for science – her brother too good a naturalist to be a good marchand – at rue Saint Victor at 11 35/..
From 11 55/.. to 2 1/2 at my desk studying Hippolite Cloquet colonne vertébrale – had perhaps about 1/4 hour’s nap – less sleepy than usual
but had my hair down and this might do good
Forgot Cuvier’s giving no lecture today, and in spite of the rain, off at 2 1/2 – at the college and back in 1/2 hour – at my anatomy again at 3 10/.. to 5 5/.. studied very well this last time – satisfied with myself – had my skeleton, and g[o]t through the whole of the colonne vertébrale quite as well or better than if I had had Monsieur Juliart – off at 5 1/2 and came in at 6 20/.. – dressed - dinner at 6 35/.. – read the paper – came to my room at 8 40/.. – wrote the whole of the above of today – coffee at 9 35/.. Rainy day from about 11 a.m. – though gentle rain that my umbrella always kept off as I went to the college De France and as I returned home indeed fair great part of the way home this evening – broke my watch-glass on coming to my room after dinner – Fahrenheit 56 at 3 p.m. rue Saint Victor talking to my aunt about my father and Marian and the likelihood there seems to be of the usury laws being repealed – came to my room at 11 at which hour Fahrenheit 52˚ - quite fair – Rainy day –

We’ll see more of this guy
“Foul dragon,” declared the knight, “I am here to vanquish you!”  His armor shone dully in the sunlight pouring in from the mouth of the cave.  He pointed with a sword most dramatically.
The dragon stirred and yawned.  “What you packin’?” he asked in the strange dialect he was rumored to have.
The knight held his sword aloft.  “This is the legendary sword Daldring, delivered into my hands by fate!  It has sent evil fleeing in all corners of the world!”
“Oh, I see,” the dragon said.  He reached behind a rock and pointed something small at the knight, delicately placing one claw on the trigger.  “This is a gun,” he said.
“Hold on, wait.”
“It has armor piercing capabilities.  It can smite evil too.”  The dragon used a different claw to cock the weapon, making a distant click.  “Now hold still so I don’t spoil your armor.  That looks valuable.”
The knight scrambled for the exit, all dignity forgotten.
The dragon sat back and laughed.  “And the world doesn’t have corners!” he yelled after the fleeing knight.

F56 at 5 1/4 a.m. and fine morning - off at 6 1/4 - Lecture 12 Desfontaines from 7 1/2 to 8 1/2 - breakfast - Lecture 26 Brongniart from 9 to 10 1/2 - never attended so well, or made such good notes - Lecture 13 de Blainville from 10 50/.. to 12 1/4 - Lecture 8 G. St. Hilaire from 12 1/2 to 1 3/4 -
spoke to monsieur G. St. H-[Hilaire] en sort[en]t - asKed if there was any chance of finding him in the museum about 12 on Thursday - it seemed as if he would have been there, till I mentioned Lady S-[Stuart] de R-[Rothesay] who I unluckily said s’interessait de lui - he shortly said he had met her at madame de Kellat’s, and she did not speaK to him - I declared it must have been because she did not Know him - which he did not seem at all to believe and walKed off - what nonsense, if she really did Know him! It strikes me I will, call tomorrow chez lui -
home about 2 - watered my plants - at my desK at 2 1/2 - then wrote 1/2 sheet full to Lady Stuart  had altered the copy of what I wrote on Thursday and made additions to it so that I have a copy left  I am desperately long in writing these letters
at 4 3/4 sent off by george to the embassy my letter to ‘the Honourable Lady Stuart Whitehall’ - saying how good it was in her to write by the post on Thursday - her note was quite a comfort to me - anything better than suspense - mentioned dining the embassy on Friday ‘a remarkably agreeable ‘party - Lady Isabella Blatchford, Lord and Lady Lonsdale, Lady Charlotte Lindsay and the Berries etc. etc. - mention was made of the Pyrennees - whether it will end in more than talK remains to be proved - miss Berry said, we should never get off’ -
then dawdling over my plants watering them till near 6 - off at 6 10/.. - tooK fiacre from Place maubert, and home at 6 3/4 - dressed - dinner at 7 1/4 - slept over the paper but read it all nevertheless - came to my room at 9 - the carriage came from Daldring’s this afternoon after having been there above a month to have the bacK springs strengthened and the new wheels put on - on coming home found letter from miss Hobart merely a 1/4 sheet note with 3 bills from miss mcL-[MacLean] for my booKs etc. - what means this? - she still talKs of coming yet sends the bills - has she changed her mind, and does she wish to be paid now? - affectionat[e] enough little note from Miss H[obart]  after all I believe she likes me -
Coffee at 9 50/.. came to my room at 10 40/.. at which hour F55º - Dull, cloudy day - frequent showers and sometimes heavy ones - Sat up writing notes to monsieur monod, monsieur de mirbel, and monsieur Audoin till after 12 -
