Something something Sherlock and John not having a conventional relationship and not conforming to the social structures of British male friendships. Something something John telling Sherlock he doesn’t have to use the stereotypically affection-avoidant masculine insults commonly associated with “normal” male relationships. Something something Sherlock and John being comfortable with expressions of affection. SOMETHING SOMETHING SHERLOCK AND-

Please enjoy these very scientific reconstructions of how Sherlock Holmes may have stuck his feet up on the mantlepiece in 'A Case of Identity'

Thinking about…John and Sherlock…flying out of a window…hand in hand…hovering over the great city of London…gently removing the roofs… peeping in at the queer things which are going on…

Can’t stop thinking about the time Sherlock Holmes threatened to whip a man for essentially catfishing his own stepdaughter.
Icon behavior.

Sherlock & Co. fandom, this is serious
This latest episode of Sherlock & Co. (a case of identity part 2) has wronged the DID community. Severely.
I'll make it brief.
In a podcast where the title character has DID, you'd expect we'd get good representation.
Instead, we get a scene in which a character is revealed to have flirted with his step son under an alias for money, this character then proceeds to hold a knife to someone's neck and then attempt to commit suicide, all the while struggling with falling in and out of character as this persona.
In a podcast where the title character has DID, the first tangible piece of representation we get for this disorder, is in a scene with an incestuous scammer threatening violence.
The first tangible piece of representation we get for this disorder is from someone fucked up, unstable and scary.
This is what's called "demonization." In this episode, Joel Emery is demonizing dissociative identity disorder.

I'm going to make the rather bold assumption Holmes sat down before sticking his feet up, rather than something more like below. ID in alt.

A Case of Identity (Part 1)
I loved this new episode. Seeing something more John-led and on a stranger side, really incorporating modernism into these adaptations. I can't wait to read the original story after this, I'm super curious on how this could have played out in Victorian London.
There is something wrong with Angel. Seriously wrong.
Some of my favourite moments:
Chef John making beans.
JOIN ME, AS A I DOCUMENT THE ADVENTURES OF SHERLOCK HOLMES! CUE EPIC FUCKING MUSIC THAT IS LITERALLY THE BEST
I find it so incredibly immersive that the months in Sherlock&Co match realtime, and I know because–they're you know, weekly uploads, but still.
"A pedantic Spanish woman who gets excited by spreadsheets, and the other is a violinist detective who doesn't know who Beyoncé is." I love his priorities.
Okay psychoanalyst Mariana. Pop off.
"We're best pals!" "Best… pals?" They are actually the best friend dynamic on this Earth. We live laugh love Sherlock & Co Detective Agency.
The Dark Veil II intro sounds so much like a marketable version of the Merlin BBC theme song. All hail Firelard John!
"Angel… yeah…" That's so Good Omens coded.
There is something very wrong with Angel, or there is something really weird with my perception of human relationships. (I KNEW IT)
"That kind of volume at night Watson is very disrespectful, when you have a flatmate." JOHN. IT'S YOU SCREAMING AT THE GAME, RIGHT JOHN? RIGHT JOHN??
I mean if I had the address 221B Baker Street I'd be shitting it out of my ass every two seconds as well.

tw for suicide and self harm in relation to a case of identity part 2
one of the biggest issues i have with this episode (aside from the very glaringly obvious one which im not gonna talk about) is the complete lack of proper trigger warnings or viewer discretion regarding the scene that takes place in this episode.
saying that there are "references to self harm" is WILDLY different to a scene with a suicide attempt. a reference to self harm implies something much lighter, not the scene that takes place. that's like a weather app telling you there's going to be light rain when in reality they know your walking into a hurricane.
to give them credit, they give a warning for suicide in the episode description, but a casual viewer probably isn't going to read that and just rely on the content warnings read out at the beginning.
i understand the want to avoid any major spoilers. but anything such as an offhand comment recommending people to read the description for further content warnings could have been enough. don't get me wrong, i have nothing against wanting to explore darker themes like these (although they did not explore them well, but that's besides the point). the problem is that without a clear content warning, this episode could very well be extremely triggering for people who weren't expecting it. which is not good :/
i cant say much about the harmful stereotypes on the other stuff, but i think that @teacup-captor says it best.
anyways, if you want a better representation of DID and mental health issues, i highly recommended moon knight. its a great series and explores all these themes way better :)

Hey, you!
Do you listen to Sherlock & Co.? Do you care about neurodivergent people?
I have something to tell you :3
PLEASE do not listen to A Case Of Identity part 2.
This episode includes a very unfortunate scene near the end, in which a character shows some traits that are very reminiscent of DID. This character is being violent and scary, as well as having displayed really predatory behaviors right before the start of the scene.
This puts people with DID in a bad light, something which our community is all too familiar with.
If you can, please send a message to Joel Emery or send an email to [email protected] stating that this scene is inappropriate, ableist and harmful to the DID community. Please outright state that you are not going to be listening to A Case Of Identity part 2, or if you're willing, please say you will not listen until Joel comes with a public apology.
He didn't intentionally write this scene to be ableist, however he needs to acknowledge that it is.
