i dont know if i agree but i think i understand you about jean. jean vicquemare has the kind of codependent ticking time bomb undefined relationship with harrier du bois that precious few allos can support. and aroaces are the champions of hating you really cant get the insulinde #1 hater spot if you're distracted by romance and sex. could be a beautiful truth

The humidity has worn me down, I can't get motivated to take my morning walks these days because I just obsess about how sticky I'm going to be the whole time. Also, sunrise is now 07:00 and that's so late, people are so active at that point, it's not like the beautifully quiet dawns of midsummer :/

What vegetable do you really hate? >> I honestly can't say I hate any vegetables. There are some I'm far less likely to eat, but none that I flat-out can't stand.

If you could learn any language, what would it be? >> Well, I can learn any language, at least passably if not fluently. Right now, I'm working on Irish.

What was the best thing that happened today? Something that seems minor can still be awesome. >> I was finally finishing my Person of Interest rewatch now that my loins are girded enough to handle that sort of emotional damage, and I got so much lightning-flash inspiration for merging that universe with my Saints Row one. I love that feeling, it's like... being full of electricity, being plugged in, connected to the fabric of reality. Seeing how the threads intertwine, and how they can be made to weave new stories. !! What a thrill. Have you ever donated money to a charity? Which one? >> As a person who is known for Having No Money, I have not. I am, in fact, a charity case.

Did you have a large circle of friends in high school? >> I had no circle of friends in high school. There were about two or three kids tops in each school that would put up with me.

Would you ever get a matching tattoo with someone? >> I have matching X-Files tattoos with Sparrow, and I'd do it again. The trick is to make it a tattoo similar to something you'd get independently anyway -- I had already had the "scully, it's me" tattoo idea and when I was planning to get it, they were like "hey what if we matched", and I was fine with that.

What time do you usually go to sleep? >> I go to bed at 22:00 and I stop using my phone at 23:00 (the last part tends to vary, but that's where I'm at right now). When I go to sleep, however, is not something I can control.

I think by the end of the game Harry is about another week or one drunken all-night heart-to-heart away from an ugly make out session slash fist fight with Titus on the tables in the union booth and I think that's a big part of why he tries to recruit him. Showing my work:

The Hardie Boys as an organisation are familiar to him. Titus is "the highest rank that still does field work", so basically a lieutenant. He knows *he* could fit in with them as much as Titus could fit in with the RCM. Their outlooks are similar enough, they want to be the good guys and that excuses their various evils. The skills fawn over the Hardie Boys with "familiarity" the same way they fawn over Kim with "coolness" and Klaasje with "mystery" (and Dora with "divinity", but I'm reluctant to count her considering the everything).

Harry is not immune to bicep girth. Look at Titus. The posture, the physical strength, the support from the other Hardie Boys, the ridiculous Authority - Titus is the kind of person who can make Harry feel safe. A lot of what he sees in Kim is also there in Titus.

Harry is susceptible to bröderbund nonsense, as in, he will turn a blind eye to a lot of bad things once he decides he likes someone. That awesomely high body count in the 41st has to come from *someone*, and Harry has worked with and befriended those people for almost two decades.

Being close with Titus fits in pretty well with Harry's other habits of harming himself - the bender, the long-term alcohol/speed use, how he dealt with the breakup, throwing himself into the tribunal, the suicidal thoughts. Trying to buddy up with the guy who would shoot him and his partner and leave them floating in the canal seems like a logical next step.

Regardless of my wishes for Titus/Harry: Recruiting Titus fits with Harry's divide and conquer tactic. He split Cuno from C, maybe with the best intentions, but recruiting Cuno is one more person that Harry sees as dangerous under the control of the RCM. Titus (and Theo, his "second") likewise is quite an asset to lose for Evrart and the Union. Evrart may have an army, but when the first bullets started flying he sent the Hardie Boys to get the situation under control. Someone that reliable is what the 41st need (and part of why he recruits Kim, I suspect). Plus, right after the tribunal when Titus is still grieving is the only time the recruitment is likely to work.

A minor reason, but if Harry faked the signatures, separating Titus and Evrart is just a sensible healthcare choice. Especially if the powers that be assign Martinaise to the 41st.

Personal beef with one aspect of the game only: confused why the game seems to want you to gain Titus’ approval. It threw me for a loop when you’re given the option to invite him to be a cop.

This guy and his whole posse cold blood murder Harry and Kim both just for interrogating them. They admit to letting the pretty women go for crimes. They almost start a war because Titus has a thing for Klassje.

Like?? And I’m supposed to invite this dude to kick it with my organization? Hell no! I almost didn’t shake his hand, but thought it would be needlessly impolite in the circumstance. I think that guy is a loose canon.

I have a hard time reconciling the way Harry seems a little…fond? of him at the end.

i dont normally post about this outside my very very small circle of best friends due to The General Audience Here but i do actually think disco elysium has one of the best depictions of actual real-world masculinity i’ve ever seen. like between harry’s feelings of incompetence and his physical self-image and his need to be seen as an authority all getting conflated and kim’s very specific type of stoicism being reinforced (imo) Quite A Lot by his clothes and his car and generally very particular self-image and jean’s entire ~~bröderbund~~ situation it’s like. yeah man. yeah.

Ok, I am not gonna lie, I was as confused by the line as you were and when I got to Kim's family history in the game I was like "ok but how the fuck is he harry's half brother"

The line you are referring to is said by Esprit de Corps or maybe Authority, either way, it's a skill related to the kinship Harry feels towards his district and the RCM. Esprit de Corps later also tells you that Trant is your half-brother before you know he works for the RCM. So no, Kim and Harry are not actually related and their "fraternal" connection (a bröderbund if you will) comes from being fellow cops in the RCM and I think you could write essays about how this is depicted in the game and Esprits de Corps is currently one of my favourite aspects of the game to think about
