Evan Buckley Week 2024
Tumblr media
The prompts for Evan Buckley Week 2024 are here!
This event celebrating our very own Evan "Buck" Buckley from 9-1-1 will be held from the 12th until the 18th of August 2024.
You don't need to sign up to participate, just make sure that when you post your work here on Tumblr, you use the tag #buckweek2024. Since tags can get a bit finicky here on Tumblr, you can choose to let us know you posted by also tagging @evanbuckleyweek in your post. Fics posted to ao3 can be added to the Evan Buckley Week 2024 collection.
We've provided prompts for edits as well as fanfiction and art. However, you don't have to stick to one specific list. We encourage you to choose from whichever one sparks joy, as long as you make sure to post on the corresponding day the prompt belongs to!
Edits
Tumblr media
For edits, we have some prompts for you where you can pick your Buck-related favorites to make an edit with. All kinds of edits are welcome! Show us your gifs, image-edits and collages!

Fic & art
Tumblr media
For fics and art we're giving you a few prompts to choose from every day. You can choose only one of these, or choose to combine two or all three of them! Every day consists of a line, a theme and a feeling.
Every part of the prompts is completely open to your interpretation. Surprise us with your creativity! We look forward to your fics and all variations of art and other creative works!
Day 1: “Why did you do that?” | reckless behavior | fear
Day 2: “This is my home” | catharsis | hope
Day 3: “Stop lying” | walking away | anger
Day 4: "I really don't like thunderstorms" | late night conversations | anxiety
Day 5: “I wonder what it would have been like if I had known sooner” | bi pride | acceptance
Day 6: "that's why I love you" | love languages | joy
Day 7: favorite headcanon or free choice
Some last things before you go and create your masterpieces:
Please make sure that your fics on ao3 are tagged with the proper ratings and warnings.
We want to ask you to refrain from submitting any of the following: works with character bashing or ship bashing as well as works containing explicit rape/non-con, pedophilia and incest (exploring the aftermath or trauma of these things is okay). Fics that do contain any of these will not be accepted into the ao3 collection and posts will not be reblogged to the Evan Buckley Week blog.
If you have a question, check our FAQ page to see if the answer is there or drop an ask in our inbox!

Stacie's Master List of 9-1-1 Fics:
(Mostly BuckTommy)
As We Go Along Rated: G
BuckTommy
Summary: Buck still bakes every time he thinks about Tommy. And he thinks about Tommy a lot. In fact, he thinks about him so much that sometimes the man manifests in the things Buck creates without him even trying. Especially with Christmas just around the corner.
No "happy" ending
It Was Dinner and a Movie Rated: T
BuckTommy
CW: Mild homophobic language
Summary: The boys decide to do a first date do-over now that Buck is more comfortable in his skin. And while things go mostly smooth, something small always has to interfere, and Tommy is over it. He was afraid to speak his mind once, but he's older, wiser, and has a much lower tolerance for others intolerances now. While this date won't be perfect, he refuses to let the small-minded make it worse.
LA's Link to the Sky Rated: G
BuckTommy
Summary: Buck and Tommy have a full week of opposing schedules and Buck is excited because he has something special planned for Tommy, and he can't have him catching onto it until Buck is ready.
Shine Bright Like a Northern Star Explicit Version Rated: M
BuckTommy
Summary:
Buck surprises Tommy with a late night beach date and things get a little bit emotional.
For the rated G version of this story, please check out Chapter 5 in my previously published work "A Thousand Butterfly Kisses."
A Thousand Butterfly Kisses Rated: G
BuckTommy (Incomplete 5/8 Chapters, All individual one-shots)
Summary:
A collection of short stories about various dates Buck and Tommy go on, including taking the kids to the zoo, picnics under the stars, ferris wheels and roller skating at the pier and so much more. Nothing but fluff and happiness for these two! (Except in one instance.)
Each story is completely independent of the other. At least one story will contain age related death but there will be a warning in the author's notes at the beginning if that's something you're triggered by. Any other triggers will be in the A/N each chapter as well as a short description of the story.
Soft Kitty, Warm Kitty Rated: G
BuckTommy
Summary:
Tommy keeps his promises, and even though he's late, he still shows up, tired and exhausted as he is. In thanks, Evan shows him what it means to be taken care of and prioritized.
The beginning is just like the end of 7x06 but hopefully it's only a small part of it.
Someone Like You Rated: G
BuckTommy
Summary: Buck manages to keep it hidden from everyone for over a month, but one day he just breaks. When he does, the only thing he wants, more than Tommy, is his big sister to hold him and tell him everything will be alright.
Post 8.06 Canon Compliant - No "happy" ending!
Right as Rain Rated: G
BuckTommy
Summary: The cat distribution system hits Buck while Tommy is at work.
Walk With Me Rated: G
BuckTommy
Summary: Buck and Tommy go for an early morning walk together.
Satin and Lace Rated: E
BuckTommy
Summary: Tommy likes to wear lace once in awhile, trying to be true to himself and getting out of the mindset of toxic masculinity, but he's never told Evan. One day, Evan walks into his bedroom after Tommy has gone to change after a very windy date, and to say Tommy is caught unawares is an understatement. Only Evan's reaction is totally unexpected and shenanigans Tommy has never experienced before ensue.
Oh Captain, My Captain! Rated: G
Bobby centric, includes all main couples
CW: Mentions of depression/poor mental health
Summary: Bobby has no issues being honest about his feelings. Until he does. It's been months since he left the 118, and he wakes up every morning regretting it, but he made this bed and now he's being forced to lay in it. But he doesn't want anyone to know. Can't let anyone know his weakness. Athena, the amazing woman and wife that she is, does notice however, and she makes it her mission to bring that smile back to her husbands face, and bring his family back to him, any way she can.
Groundhog Day Rated: T (WIP)
BuckTommy
CW: Vehicular accidents, mentions of coma's, mentions of blood/bruising
Summary:
Tommy is being forced to take a vacation, as ordered by his superiors at Harbor, and he hates it. Sulking, he heads out to the open road with no plans in mind, planning to hole up in a crappy motel for a week when his plans are ripped from his hands. As he drives along an empty country road, a semi comes out of nowhere and meets him in a head-on crash. When he wakes, he's in an unfamiliar room, greeted by an unfamiliar child who looks just like E... Buck... and... Buck?
He can tell that something is wrong but he doesn't know what so he lives out the day, growing more and more confused. He makes love to Evan that night, falling into peaceful sleep. When he wakes he doesn't recognize where he is, but he's greeted by a kid that looks just like Evan and... Evan? Except parts of the world keeps distorting around him, the headaches get worse every time it does, and in the recesses of his mind he can hear a voice calling for him, but he doesn't know how to reach it.
Something is seriously wrong, but he doesn't know how to fix it... Or how to get back to his true reality.
I Told You I'm Sorry Rated: E
BuckTommy
TW: Some dub-con with a blowjob
Summary:
Tommy goes over to the loft to grovel but the second "I'm sorry" leaves his lips, he can't get much else out after that because one second he's speaking and the next Evan is trying to take a chunk out of his bottom lip.

AO3 Fic Meme
I was tagged by @denizbevan!
What ratings do you write most of your fics under?
Explicit (50) Mature (17) General Audiences (3) Teen And Up Audiences (2)
What can I say? I've always been intrigued about the ways people relate to each other through sex, so it's most often a part of the stories I tell. What are your top three fandoms?
Our Flag Means Death - 71 Jurassic Park/ Jurassic World pirate crossover - 1 Deadloch - 1
What is the top character you write about?
Edward Teach (67) pips Stede Bonnet (65) for the most-written-about.
What are your top three pairings?
Edward Teach/ Stede Bonnet- 65 Oluwande Boodhari/ Jim Jimenez- 5 Lucius Spriggs/ Black Pete/ Fang - 3
What are your top three additional tags? I'm gonna do my top ten actually 😂 I am nothing if not consistent.
Alternate Universe - Modern Setting (37) Anal Sex (29) Blow Jobs (22) Happy Ending (17) Hand Jobs (10) Complete (9) Post-Canon (9) Mutual Pining (9) First Time (8) Voyeurism (8)
Does any of this surprise you?
Nope! I'm a strongly Ed/Stede, mostly explicit writer, though I also have a lot of stories that focus more on the mystery or historical plot, which accounts for a lot of the M ratings. The one thing I'm kinda impressed with is that voyeurism made it into the top ten tags- it's a trope I enjoy but I've now clearly used it a lot (we're gonna blame the Olympic diving boys and the Tree Change boys and the Lucky One Hundred camboys for being hopeless exhibitionists, and maybe a little bit the chaos spies and the current future sex club boys, because all of them angle that way).
Tagging in @ghostalservice, @petrichorca, @veeagainsttheday, @fakestgeekboy, @adhduck, @xoxoemynn, @bizarrelittlemew, and anyone else who'd like to answer!

oh man, haven't done tag games in a while, sorry friends 🥹 i've been passive the last few weeks because uni is really taking most of my time and energy, but i appreciate the tags and i love love reading your answers<3
ok enough blabbering, thank u @callivich, @lingy910y, and @mickeysgaymom for the totally optional, fun gallavich questions tag!
What’s a fic you’ve read more than once?
Stuck at Three for Days - delicious banter, laughed my ass off
another kiss is all it takes - so fuckin sweet, dude
Like Real People Do - just finished my reread last month:)) i needed the comfort
Cooperative Gameplay - currently rereading! i miss the feels
Sometimes I reread bits and pieces from ORFNSP and since we're alone because they changed my brain chemistry. I will eventually get around to actually rereading them.
2. What’s a gifset you always have to reblog?
You know the one... this legendary world heritage gifset
3. What’s a headcanon you can’t stop thinking about?
not sure if this is counted but i always like to think that once, ian got struck with grief about monica's death on her death anniversary. mickey asks him what's wrong and he opens up about it. ian will say it's stupid but mickey will truly handle it with grace and say nah man it's not. because yahknow, he gets it. and ian melts at it, because no one has acknowledged his grief like this before. mickey teases him about it a bit, sure, but deep down he held ian's mourning warmly, like petals on his palm. and they went together to the cemetery that day, simply sat in front of her grave and talked. the good things, the bad. and that despite it all "hey, tleast she popped out an alien lookin mfer i ended up marryin." they get pizza after.
4. What’s a fanart you love looking at?
Van kiss by @lingy910y
Prince Mononoke by @darthvaders-wife
Prison Boyfriends by @gallavichonly
Part of Our World by @steorie
It's Okay by WhatsaMattavich
This Kiss by @deathclassic
SO MANY others actually if i could fit them all here
5. What’s an idea you’d love to create if you had the time/inspiration?
i actually have a LIST lmao. one of those has something to do with art because i cannot take my mind away from human mickey and manananggal ian (manananggal is a Philippine myth creature with wings and can separate the upper half of its body from its lower half).
6. What’s something you’ve discovered since entering this fandom? A new trope you love? A different analysis of the show? Something else?
oh man. believe it or not, i was never into fics. i was in fandoms before, but i just couldn't get into fics within those fandoms (i tried). this is the only time i truly liked and LOVED reading fics. it really speaks volumes about the talent and dedication, and i'm glad i got to experience it.
it's also fun reading metas on the show and getting different perspectives, especially on characters. one of my favorites (just because i was so distressed about it the first time i watched it) are analyses on the city hall scene and ian's hesitation on marriage. after reading up others' thoughts on it explaining the why's, i totally felt some relief and was able to get some sleep. lol
7. What’s an underrated trope or concept you’d like to see more of?
apocalypse aus
8. What’s your favourite season? And has this changed after multiple rewatches of the show?
The first five seasons are gems to me. but i truly love season 2 because it's so chill (at least compared to some of the heavier seasons after) and the gallaghers move as a unit. special mention for season 4 because it holds Emily and Lazarus.
9. What’s a plot hole you wish had been answered or resolved?
same qualms with @mickeysgaymom about mickey's mom. brain rotting over it.
10. What scene or moment do you feel isn’t discussed enough?
not gallavich related, and i'm sure people have already mentioned it, but sometimes it hits me how smart debbie is. like, i know she's smart, but people easily forget from all the chaos. at the heart of it, she's a fast learner and also would and have excelled academically.
11. What line/dialogue/description from something else (a poem, a book, a tv show, a movie, or something else) do you feel describes Ian and Mickey’s relationship?
aaaa @lingy910y beat me to it! it's totally "I'll take care of you. / It's rotten work. / Not to me. Not if it's you." but if i could pick another, maybe "I could recognize him by touch alone, by smell; I would know him blind, by the way his breaths came and his feet struck the earth. I would know him in death, at the end of the world."
12. What do you think is next for Ian and Mickey post-finale?
they'll grow old together and be just as in love, no matter what happens in between.
tagging @mybrainismelted, @scurvgirl, and @lupeloto if u wanna join!! raahh

Thanks for the tag, @mugsdontlie
Writing procrastination game!!!
1. What's the name of one of your Wips?
Loyalty's Price; Eternity, I have half a mind to name my next one something Fear and Hunger related.
2. Describe a Wip in the format of __+__=__
Uhhhh, I'll do a non-LP one since LP; Eternity is 1 chapter from being over. Modern AU+Genjutsu = a generally bad day.
3. What tags/warnings will one of your Wips need if you share it?
Usually violence and character death though I don't think any of them have been sad deaths so far.
As for tags.....Loyalty's Price; Reunion will have Urushi, so him?
4. Alternative title to a Wip?
God I wish. Loyalty's Price feels very generic. Uhhh, maybe "No Place Else you'd rather be" a line from Fences by Paramore. It has an irony I kind of like. Doesn't work well for subtitles though.
5. Which Wip are you most likely to update/finish next?
Loyalty's Price; Eternity. Editing the final chapter though it'll most likely be split in half.
6. What is one of your Wip's document title, not its name but what you have it saved as?
LP 3; CH 11; Try 2; D2 (I rewrote much of it)
7. Post any sentence from your Wip?
"He hoped someone else had to suffocate on this putrid victory."
8. A scrapped idea from your wip?
There's two whole scrapped scenes, one is of Kabuto having a nightmare that involves Nonou that's half a flashback if you wanna read it that way, and one is him and Sakura talking about death generally but about Sasori and Yoroi a bit.
9. What's a story you'd love to write but have yet to start?
I'd kinda like to do a "what if Naruto was on Team Kabuto" but I'm still not entirely sure how to tackle it.
Same with a "what if Nonou adopted Naruto and he and Kabuto were straight up brothers". I have ideas for it but they're pretty disconnected and more vibes than a plot. I don't write kids well.
Both are hard in part because idk how much canon divergence I'm comfortable with yet.
10. How many Wips are you actively working on?
1, probably will start something else when LP; Eternity is done
11. Is there a scene you're struggling to write right now?
Struggling to edit in general. The fic has caused a bit of a panic episode that I'm in treatment for. I don't want my mental health to take away something I was really enjoying though.
12. Not a question but a second kudos!
Tagging: @aceonice , @allalrightagain , @ao3dorian-gay , @myulalie , Uhhh @girl-with-goats if any of you want to.

a silly one: top 5 or 10 naruto ships or dynamics whatever you prefer
ooh excellent ask. it's actually quite tough to make a selection! I do enjoy a lot of canon dynamics that I wouldn't like... necessarily seek out in fandom, but then the stuff I interact with in fandom, what I read fic for and so on, is SO broad and so eclectic that it becomes a struggle to narrow it down. I think I've skewed more towards canon dynamics/relationships I enjoy... there's no fandom I read as broadly for as naruto, including a lot of gen fic - and a lot of it is very team-based stuff, which I'm mostly going to leave out. also, proper niche things that exist only in my head like 'the rin/konan manifesto'. anyway. here goes
10. gaara x naruto: gaara was a top three character of mine when I was a kid (along with temari and itachi). he's very appealing to the edgelord seven year old and I did have his sand gourd as a bag, plus his arc was one of my favourite bits of the manga. his powers are cool as shit, that bit in the forest where he brutally murders the other team and temari goes 'bye bye' is excellent - and then of course there's his main character beat: how naruto can relate to him due to the monster trapped inside. naruto is very big on establishing parallels between its main characters and the various villains, which is all very shounen-y and kinda cliche but, well, it's fun. gaara is still the best execution of that trope, partly because he comes early enough that the central theme of 'isn't it lucky that naruto had friends!!!!' hasn't been done to death. the visual of naruto gradually being surrounded by loved ones while gaara stays alone does work... gaara was just a good character, genuinely creepy and functioning as this primal, unthinking evil, that is gradually revealed to be tragic and alone. the execution of the arc isn't perfect and naruto's power of love bit is already pushing it here, but the whole thing is more or less dramatically satisfying. now, as is so often the case, the whole thing does fall apart after this... gaara just becomes a complete non-entity where we have to assume he does all his character development off-screen, but when he comes back he's basically completely reformed and non-bloodthirsty. now, the problem with having a character whose only character trait is being bloodthirsty, you kinda need to be careful when you're taking away their one thing. don't accidentally make them boring! (it also doesn't canonically really fly to me - gaara isn't insane when we meet him because he has an attitude problem, he's insane because he literally cannot fall asleep and has a deranged monster whispering into his thoughts 24/7. like the attitude shift is a good start, but surely it'll take a bit more work than that.) the inclusion of this relationship on this list really is just about that initial arc and the promise therein, how well they bounced off each other to start with... (you'll find this is a bit of a running theme on this list actually.) I don't really ship them, don't really ship gaara with anyone except maybe rock lee and as far as I'm concerned it's naruto/sasuke 4 lyfe, but y'know. they're good foils. wish gaara had been struggling a little more with the 'not murdering people' thing when they next met. they could've been friends but in an interesting way idk
9. shikamaru/temari: to some extent I do feel like I've aged out of enjoying this relationship in its canon form. I loved it as a kid, in large part because temari was the one token strong woman and it actually felt like this relationship was being conducted on like... even footing. growing up, I have gone off shikamaru in the sense that... well, idk, I think he can be written well and there's plenty of good elements to the character, it's just that he is also a specific flavour of wish fulfilment that threatens to appeal to some of the most annoying types of guy imaginable. it doesn't help that temari slips into irrelevance from shippuden onwards and eventually really is just shikamaru's wife, which. awful! still, they did have strong banter. there's a world in which shikamaru is actually forced to grow up and mature a little more, rather than being treated by the narrative as the super smart moral authority badass cool guy who is right all the time. what I really want from this dynamic is the politics of it all... when we're introduced to these characters, we have these two strategists who are already embroiled in sensitive political situations. while shikamaru mostly still gets to be a kid and is only loosely aware of his father's work, temari is playing a central role in attempting a coup of another village. shikamaru's father is jounin commander and clan leader of one of konoha's more influential clans, roles he is expected to inherit - but he balks at the responsibility and kind of wants everyone to leave him alone. temari's father is the kazekage, her brother is the jinchuriki who she's terrified will murder her every time he loses his temper... she's outwardly far more accepting of her duties, but you can't imagine that's an easy situation, right. there's a lot about their lives that feel very prescribed, from the supportive role they play to the jinchuriki to the lineage-based teams they were assigned to. idk, I feel like the basic potential of a romance between the pair of them is that it gives them the opportunity to... go against all that, to actually make their own choice for once because they've fallen in love with a smart arsehole. I'm also kinda interested in the logistics of inter-village romance, because you have to assume that's not been a common thing but it's barely commented on once it starts cropping up within naruto's generation. especially when it's two figures of shikamaru and temari's stature! I just want a bunch of fun political dramas between these two that aren't painfully heteronormative and lets temari level a forest or two, is that too much to ask for
8. sasori/deidara: look, I could have included any number of akatsuki combinations here. I think they're all fantastic, I enjoy them in canon, I have read a lot of fic for them. I think I read more itachi/deidara fic than sasori/deidara, but that's also just kinda dependent on where the fandom has gone with these characters. this is the gold standard akatsuki teammate pairing: memorable, charming, bonkers. like, they're artists, but they have this fundamental philosophical divide because one is in love with things being temporary and the other with things being eternal... which is expressed by having one blow everything up and the other making himself into a puppet to live forever... that's cinema right there. this dynamic immediately bangs in canon because they just have such easy antagonistic chemistry. they really are both the type of guy who would drive you absolutely insane with their stupid fucking art debates. they're just such vivid characters with such distinctive voices and worldviews... you kinda want to play around with them, right, like they're just fun!! I love them!! obviously also great for au's, like they are annoying grad students they just are... idk I luv them, both platonically and as a ship. how do they work out romantically.... well, probably they don't, unless in a heavily au scenario. they're also kinda on the opposite ends of the... idk what to call it, libido spectrum shall we say, where deidara has got this whole tongue situation and sasori is frozen in this arrested, sterile youth. you kinda need to get weird and freaky with these characters, right, and try to figure out how they would navigate their respective situations. but see, isn't that something that just gets the imagination going! one's a small waif puppet lurking inside a big hulking puppet, the other's got tongues in his hands, doesn't that just stimulate the creative mind. if sasori fell in love with deidara, he would want to make him into a puppet... limitless potential
7. sasuke x itachi: now, listen, this one's a bit of a mess. both of their characterisations become increasingly messy as the series goes on, which given how much of their characters are about each other becomes a kind of downward spiral into incoherency. I'm still not entirely sure what the series' moral stance on itachi's actions is supposed to be - which, look, I'm not saying you need to have a moral stance on everything, but you should try to have SOME kind of coherent framing of the whole ordeal that goes beyond 'wow, that sure sucked for everyone involved'. all this means you can kinda go one of two ways with this dynamic: either you ignore the shippuden twist, or you don't ignore it and let itachi have his 'reasonable motivations' for the uchiha massacre. I do tend to accept this twist... it does give a good explanation for why itachi left sasuke alive beyond 'he wanted to steal his eyes'. my stance on the whole thing is that itachi's heart might generally be in the right place, but he made a truly awful choice and the narrative will never be able to convince me otherwise. if you go from there, you do have a very compelling set-up for that sibling relationship. sasuke is the only person in the world who itachi loves unconditionally; he's protective of his baby brother in a way he simply will never be of anyone else. whereas sasuke has always been defined by itachi, first existing entirely in his shadow and then dedicating his entire life to killing him... itachi is devoted to sasuke and sasuke cannot escape itachi. that's good stuff! classic older sibling/younger sibling dynamic... it's just a dynamic that's so foundational to both of them that even in fics that aren't about that relationship specifically, it's basically unavoidably THERE. the canon is a mess, but the emotional truths that underlie it work
6. minato/kushina: from a storytelling standpoint, I hate naruto being minato's son. naruto's parentage reveal kills his underdog credentials dead in the water and it's very... well he was always gonna be an ultra special boy, wasn't he. like it does kinda destroy the character. unfortunately, I can't ignore his parentage because I do simply love them. yes, this is another relationship that suffers from that thing where all the writing of women is kinda awful. I don't mind their meet cute being kushina's damsel in distress moment when she's being kidnapped - but given how little screen time they have, kushina's badass status ends up being very much an informed trait. let's just take it as read that every woman in this series is done dirty. in any case, the appeal of minato is that he is fundamentally a wife guy. he is kushina's number one fan and wants to live his life being kushina's number one fan. he's also not from a super powerful clan, which I really like; he ends up embodying the democratic ideal that naruto was supposed to. he's also really big on the whole 'gentle smile, kills so so many people' thing, which is always fun imo. kushina gets introduced as this feral naruto-esque girl - and with that sort of thing there's always a massive danger of the girl being like... feminised beyond recognition and concurrently being reduced to housewife status. now there is a little bit of that with kushina, but in my head there really doesn't have to be. in a way, they're really too bland and boring for me to love them as much as I do... they're sweet, though, and I adore team minato. plus, I'm always a sucker for a tragic heterosexual arc
5. hashirama/madara: these two were in love with each other. obviously they were. there's three separate ships on this list that basically function as 'tragic backstories'; this series has a lot of strong tragic backstories. perhaps that's partly because those stories are already for the most part 'finished' by the time they are narrated to the audience, which means we're generally spared any of what this series considers character development. I'm pretty sure I've already posted on this blog before about my dislike for the entire uchiha curse situation and there's definitely quite a lot of annoying things about madara's character too, but luckily most of them don't impact the backstory too much. I love how sweet and innocent they are when they meet, how they're just immediately enamoured with each other, how fate and circumstance conspires to turn them against each other, how they eventually flip the script and irrevocably change the world with their idealism... I just love the kind of rivalry that produces a pair of giant gay ass statues guarding a waterfall. now, as stated above, I don't like the idea that madara ends up fucking it because there's something cursed about his blood. this kind of determinism manages to be both boring and kinda troubling if you think about the implications for more than two seconds. it also sets up naruto and sasuke breaking the cycle, without any indication of why those two specifically manage to break it - sasuke is fundamentally not in a place where he would be closer to breaking it than mr teenage political revolutionary madara. sasuke was accidentally radicalised, my man madara was already there from day one! this story works the best imo if you've got two fundamentally well-intentioned idealistic blokes who have also been traumatised by war and have never entirely been able to let go of the war in their minds... just gradually letting the peace they built slip away. fewer bloodline curses, more generational trauma. I understand bloodline curses can be metaphors for generational trauma, but it's really not here. it just doesn't work. I don't really read a lot for this ship because it's one of those where I have a very specific idea of how I think this dynamic works and the fic out there I've read doesn't quite meet me where I am. but I do love the backstory, do love the dynamic, do love the vibes. plus, cool power match-up
4. sand siblings: my kids!! they show up to konoha, they bully a bunch of the homegrown brats, then they start murdering children in the forest. love a good sibling dynamic and this one has such a fun and unique flavour... beleaguered eldest child temari, snarky and mean and confident but also way out of her league, annoying middle child kankuro who plays at being cocky while also having to reckon with his fundamental lack of power, and lonely youngest child gaara, who initially barely seems to see the other two as siblings at all. obviously, the real meat of this dynamic is that temari and kankuro are absolutely terrified of gaara, who despite his age functions as the de facto leader of their team. it feels quite rare in-universe to have teams that consist of siblings, with a bit of separation between the hierarchical military command structure and actual blood family that actually feels like quite a good idea. suna clearly don't believe in that shit and instead have decided to force these three into what just feels like a horrendous situation for everyone... it's essentially an extension of their childhood household - where temari and kankuro were taught to treat gaara with mistrust and contempt before eventually learning to fear him, while gaara is given little reason to expect any kind of familial affection from his older brother and sister. good and gritty abusive family dynamic... obviously none of these three kids are really to blame with how fucked up that relationship has become, but also all three have understandable reasons to be wary. their early canon dynamic is so interesting, where they're like... kinda comfortable around each other, are mostly quite distanced and professional when interacting amongst themselves and let more of their personalities show to outsiders than each other... kankuro and temari forming a little bit of a united front in containing gaara, but mostly they're just united in their fear of their baby brother... it's compelling! I am compelled! now, I've already given the sparknotes of my issues with gaara and temari's later development and the same broadly holds true of kankuro, plus their relationship in general. they just basically all seem quite fine with each other after naruto's done his talk no jutsu thing. the whole 'gaara becoming kazekage' thing was always a bit weird to me... even in the military dictatorship universe, gaara does not have the prerequisites for that to be a good idea in the slightest. if anything, it does kinda feel like temari should have gotten that job - and I'm not too fussed with her getting it, I actually like her mirroring shikamaru in taking more of a supportive role that allows her to have a little more freedom, but maybe kankuro...? idk, I know it's supposed to be meaningful and emotional because, oh, look at how they've accepted the jinchuriki, but this is the bit of the magic ninja manga that just completely breaks my suspension of disbelief. just ends up falling kinda flat to me. it also ended up unnecessarily preempting naruto's whole thing? weird weird choice, still don't like it, basically I like nothing about the sand siblings writing from shippuden onwards. do love them, though! long live dysfunctional siblings
3. naruto/sasuke: the thing about this pairing is that, look, they are basically canon. naruto is extremely down bad for sasuke and in turn he seems to be the only person sasuke still somewhat gives a shit about. that man certainly doesn't give a shit about sakura... I have read and enjoyed ot3 fic for team 7, I don't inherently think sakura/sasuke is an awful ship or anything, but the way canon does it is just. well. no. anyhow, it's kind of hard to give a concise summary on my take for this pairing in a way I've been doing for the other items of this list, because doing so would basically amount to 'summarise the plot of naruto'. it's the central dynamic of the entire series... their conflict, the different paths they end up taking, whether they can find their way back to each other or not. I've already complained about the actual execution of this arc before, but man are they conceptually compelling. it's sasuke throwing himself in front of haku's needles to save naruto, it's naruto throwing himself in front of a massive snake to save sasuke, it's them taunting and challenging each other throughout those early arcs... the rooftop fight as a furious, terrified sasuke tries to understand how he could have allowed naruto to catch him... the valley of the end, when naruto reaches out and points out all the similarities between them - and sasuke rebuffs him, telling naruto he understands nothing of loss... again, the whack morality of this series does limit the effectiveness of the storytelling because, not to get all edgelord 'sasuke was right' here, but low key... sasuke was right much of the time. he also never actually sunk low enough... the series' stance is that his dedication to his quest of vengeance was basically fine, but the issue was that he didn't go about it with the power of friendship. which, sure, but... idk man. the series kinda lost me when it tried to portray the uchiha massacre as some sort of noble deed. it really lost me with all the curse of hatred stuff. the series never sold me on why these two specifically manage to break the cycle, which is kinda impressive given how much naruto goes on about sasuke over the course of the series. but mooning over an uchiha boy is not enough! this list features multiple instances of a character mooning over an uchiha boy. where I'm at with this pairing is that I passively enjoy it when I'm actually engaging with the source material, don't necessarily seek out fic for them even though obviously it's just... there in a lot of stuff, but do very much conceptually enjoy them. I think it's cool that naruto's gay love changed the ninja world. that's very valid of him
2. kakashi/obito: the impact that finding out kakashi's backstory had on eight year old me needs to be studied. it was one of my absolute absolute favourite bits of the manga to read, just like half a volume that tells this little tragedy of team minato where you have so much of the story still missing but it's sad and horrible because it's kakashi!!! the immediate intrigue of having this naruto-esque uchiha who wasn't in the usual mould of prodigy, but instead only tapped into his potential at the moment of his tragic death. the way he changed kakashi's entire outlook on life!! he saved kakashi multiple times over in his moment of 'death'... idk it just tells you so much about kakashi so quickly and it does all feel like a logical explanation for why the character is Like That, so congrats there. and then, the reveal - well, I was always going to be up for that. tobi is just an inherently funny character, just continuously makes you go 'what is your deal' and 'why are you like this'. he's so whack that he really lends himself to just like... being kinda obsessed with kakashi, stalking him around and all that. really solidifies how basically the only bits of shippuden worth engaging with are the super akatsuki-focused ones. and then the reveal!! the tragedy of it all!! look, I'm always going to raise an eyebrow on a ship that relies on the death of a woman for the emotional whump, and I change my mind a lot about how to tackle the rin problem (I do love her, but mainly just the version of her that exists in my head - canon does not give us A Lot) (and in general I am very up for team minato content). all that being said.... I'm gonna be real, I love that backstory too. I don't think it's executed all that well, obito's emotional arc is a bit of a mess, but the twelve year old boy in my heart finds the scene where obito comes across rin being killed by kakashi and murders everyone there minus kakashi so extremely sick. and the fight between kakashi and obito is clearly the best thing that happens in that entire endless bloody ninja war. doubles down on the pathos with the sad music and all that shit, and it actually kinda works for me. I think kakashi should get to redeem his childhood rival turned deranged enemy and live happily ever after with him, as a treat
1. sakura/ino: in many ways not really the type of dynamic I usually go for, given the animosity between them is... y'know, not that serious and also a bit of a non-issue post time skip. like with many things in this world, I have this version of the story that exists in my head where their rivalry remains like... a major part of the story throughout. anyway they mean the world to me... this imbalance between them, ino with the clan heritage and the popular cool girl vibes protecting the shy little common brat with the big forehead... I like that they had a stupid argument over a boy and made it into this insane competition about who will be the best ninja. I like their chunin exam fight!! in-universe it's kinda mid-on-mid girl-on-girl, but in the version of this series that exists in my head and allows the women to actually be equally powerful to the blokes... idk isn't there something insanely romantic about them matching each other perfectly, about their mental tussle, how sakura overcomes the combat advantage ino holds due to her upper class status through sakura's sheer force of will/derangement... basically I think they should get to challenge each other and maybe also attempt to kill each other? my ideal sakura arc is one that really leans into her normie status and gives her some girl power wish fulfilment in spite of it. you can have her fully rebel against the status quo and have her sympathise with sasuke, you can have her go the tobirama-esque hardliner route, the prejudiced genius who will do anything to defend her village and reform it in line with her standards, or you can have her go the more academic route where she does a bunch of weird medical experiments idk. (the three genders: madara, tobirama, or orochimaru.) or, well, that's how EYE saw her development going - I just think there's space for something a lot more substantive than 'what if tsunade, but without all the genetic advantages and political power'. idk! with ino, my god... she's already linked to the interrogation department... they made her the obligatory girl medic when she should be working with the torture people... to me conceptually ino should always end up working in opposition to sakura whatever route you want to send her down. and you need to include as much mind fuckery as possible, because it's fundamentally fun and valid to have a ship where your two characters can do deranged things to each other in their brains. anyway, look, obviously all of this is straying pretty far away from the canon dynamic. sakura has that female main character thing of not being particularly well characterised and easy to project onto, which means you can kinda do whatever with her - and obviously I have now kinda been doing whatever with her for many years. I do think they're neat. I stand by them being neat

I still think it's a shame that we haven't had anything in the show related to johnny and miyagi emotionally -- what I mean by that is that, yes, we've had him mentioning larusso's sensei that beat him and his friends up (during his "daniel was the real bully" rewrite of events), and there was daniel in the training-bit that pointed out that miyagi was a badass who defeated kreese (was it in the training bit, I think so), but johnny had nothing really to say to that, and there's "no be there," which was framed as a joke (that's a whole other tangent)
off the top of my head -- which, it has been a few months since I've gone through the whole thing -- that's all we've had, but miyagi saved johnny's life, and I think that's worthy of writing something about. johnny is consistently derisive about miyagi-do, but quite apart from whether or not he thinks teen!daniel could defeat him at the all-valley, miyagi definitely got kreese without breaking a sweat, and johnny's ptsd-envisioned almost getting choked to death several times on this show, but it always ends before he gets rescued
idk, this is kind of not-fully-thought-out, but it's to do with the way that the show never fully completes the inwards spiral it was doing to bring johnny into the karate kid story (it may in s6... but since johnny's storyline is now "new baby out of nowhere, not at all related to any of his growth and certainly not carmen's" it's doubtful). s1 johnny is supposed to be abrasive and unwilling to have anything to do with miyagi-do (except for when he does, episode 9 my beloved), and then bit by bit he's being brought from his "side" of the narrative into daniel's narrative, which he merely played a part in initially (I say, as if I haven't read 100 fics in which he and daniel got it on at prom) and has been unwilling to see what that part entailed, because if they weren't equally matched nemeses and he did just beat him up several times because he didn't like him, then what does it mean that his father-figure tried to kill him for failing to beat him at a teen karate tournament?
they pay lip-service to some of that with the whole miyagi-fang + training montage bit, but of course s5 then does nothing with it, but what I mean is that if johnny really belonged in daniel's story - because this is the miyagi-verse, not the daniel or johnny verse - I really wanted him to acknowledge the role miyagi played in his life, and to be respectful of that. he's acknowledged that kreese was bad for him, and nearly killed him, but that's idk... the anger and betrayal part of it all. on the other side of that was daniel's mentor/father, a story which he didn't belong in (perhaps doesn't feel like he deserved to be in, cycle of abuse etcetc), but for a moment intersected with his, and now deliberately intersects with his, he wants to intersect with his, and miyagi's ghost hovers over all of it
it's unfortunate that they dragged johnny back to a safe place (for them), where his character development barely still applies, and it's probably-definitely to do with getting him away from daniel, so "not-talking-about-miyagi" isn't the highest on the list of things that has jarringly thrown johnny out of the main storyline and into his own weird stepford hellscape, but it's up there for me alongside "you're alright larusso," as the most puzzling omissions from the show, because it's... it's right there. the easiest character development in a show that's all about being incredibly on the nose with its arcs
once upon a time I thought "nah, they'll leave it for the end, because it's the perfect ending," but now we are... here. whatever end s5 was doing. and it's a little bit more *chuckles, you remember that johnny told daniel that he was alright and handed him the trophy right? you remember that miyagi stepped in to save johnny's life when he was a kid right? you remember that those were two significant scenes that happened... right?*
ah well vive le fanfiction, especially with this show 😂
TL;DR I think johnny saying a few words about miyagi (respectful ones, not s1 johnny ones) would bring johnny into the karate kid story properly, by acknowledging the role miyagi played in his life

20 questions: fic author edition!
tagged by @caesarflickermans :)
how many works do you have on ao3?
12 posted. I've deleted a couple over the years that I wasn't proud of. looking back, I should've orphaned them :/
2. what's your total AO3 word count?
169,931
3. what fandoms do you write for?
mostly the hunger games. I have one that's from the book thief, and one unposted WIP from a:tla.
4. what are your top 5 fics by kudos?
let the memories be good for those who stay
gym class
something of our own
cinderella man
so this is your maverick
5. do you respond to comments? why or why not?
yes! I like to thank people and reply to their feedback. I love to discuss fic with writers and readers. I leave detailed comments for that reason.
6. what's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
my first one, to have and to hold. (This happens year after year and it will never stop.)
7. what's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
cinderella man. (Where Katniss kissed him on his cheek before heading for the forest with her bow feels puckered and hot (sunburned), tingling. Happy. He thinks it's a good look for him.)
8. do you get hate on fics?
not hate but I've had criticism over some Gale-related parts of SOO. just as well, I am now very self-conscious about that part of the story. 😀
9. do you write smut? if so, what kind?
not really, or not explicitly. I appreciate when sexual content is more emotion-focused (good or bad) and character-driven and adds to the story. I skim/skip explicit content in my own reading so I definitely don't care to write it myself. I don't think I'd be very good at it, either; I am very clinical about the body.
10. do you write crossovers? what's the craziest one you've written?
I've written one, and it's so crazy! in a fun, unhinged-teenager way. it's a hunger games/book thief crossover called the callers from the coffin, where Death follows Haymitch over the years in the same way they did Liesel.
11. have you ever had a fic stolen?
not that I know of.
12. have you ever had a fic translated?
no.
13. have you ever cowritten a fic before?
nope. and for good reason - I'd be terrible at that, between being a bit of a control freak and having an inconsistent writing schedule.
14. what's your all-time favorite ship?
zutara (to the point where I can never write it and am honestly so picky when it comes to reading it)
15. what's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
so this is your maverick ought to have a second part but I just don't know if I'll ever get around to it.
16. what are your writing strengths?
punctuation and grammar lmao as well as writing naturally paced dialogue. I prioritize good/accurate characterization in fanfic, but I won't say that's an actual strength of mine.
17. what are your writing weaknesses?
my confidence, first and foremost lol.
also, I really have to pare down my rough drafts. I do a lot of hand-holding without realizing, even though I love to read between the lines and infer when I read other people's work. but I worry I don't write as masterfully to be able to do that well.
18. thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
fun to read! not fun to write extensively, and so I don't. the most I've done is have Rudy in let the memories be good for those who stay say ja or other words that were italicized/isolated in the original text. I try to follow the rules of the original text. otherwise, I'd just say 'spoke in X language' but continue on in English.
19. first fandom you wrote for?
a:tla, on nickelodeon forums 💀
20. favorite fic you've ever written?
that's hard! I am really having fun with something of our own, so that one.
tagging: any mutual or follower of mine who hasn't yet!!

Random-Mailbox's Favorite Sailor Moon Fics - Week 20 - Coffeeshop AU
Tumblr media
This week’s post is all about the Coffee Shop AU tropes and is for the very patient @moon-daisuki. Sorry for taking so long to fulfill your request 😘
As always, my apologies in advance for spoiling some of these for you (Fic Titles are linked to either FFN or AO3 entries).
If you gave me a chance I would take it (It's a shot in the dark but I'll make it) - @idesofnovember
Usagi stops by a coffee shop on her way to the Elections HQ to grab herself a chai-tea latte (my personal drink of choice when I am out too), starting to flirt with the dark-haired barista who keeps making her drinks over the course of the campaign.
Down the Rabbit Hole - @idesofnovember
We actually have a second Coffee Shop related story from @idesofnovember. In this one, Usagi takes a job as the white rabbit in an “Alice in Wonderland” themed café, something she tries to keep quiet. Naturally, Mamoru decides to come and study there instead of the arcade - because why wouldn’t you bug someone you know, who also has to wear a silly costume for work.
Checkmate - @queenrisa14
Usagi moves a chess piece on a board at her usual coffee shop and someone else does a move on it overnight to start a game. This multichapter follows the search for the other player, as notes come into play and memories get unlocked.
Care for a Sandwich?  - @cassraven
Super cute one-shot about Motoki convincing Mamoru to try out a sandwich place that is being run by his new girlfriend Makoto, with one very bright and upbeat waitress helping them.
In Your Orbit - UsaMamo Shorts - Chapter 3: Latte Art  - @daikon1
In this one-shot Usagi and Mamoru have an in-depth discussion regarding the value of Tuxedo Mask to the Senshi over latte art that Mako made special for Usagi.
The Blonde Barista Series - Girl_in_Japan
This series of interconnected parts of a story where Mamoru accidentally gets Usagi’s phone number she wrote down for Motoki on a coffee cup (with a bunny drawing that Mamoru assumed was a cat!), gets yelled at by her for being insufferable and then eventually reaches a truce.
The Barista - @sinjazz
Mako keeps coming back to the same coffee shop because she is absolutely taken with the barista, to the point where she can’t seem to form any sentences. So instead, every time she comes in, he tries to guess her name. Until one day, Senshi assistance is needed to ward off a daimon bent on destroying her favorite drink establishment.
Opening This Fall - @irritablevowel
This little story is about Mako opening her own bakery (with terrible coffee) and meeting Nephrite (Taro in this story) who rents the warehouse next door to start a coffee roasting business.
Pink Moon Tiara-Flavored Kisses - Sweetsugariness
In this one-shot, Usagi takes Mamoru to a Senshi themed café to unwind on a date during the Death Busters arc.
From across the street - Cluckster
A little short of Kunzite trying to face his past and forgive himself
That's it for this week! Next Monday we will cover the "Huddle for Warmth" trope that I am using as a bit of a general direction for anything cold and snowy.
Here are the links to the previous Tumblr posts in these series to explore more amazing works based on different themes - make sure to check them out if you haven't had a chance! (Click on title name to go to the post) - I will keep updating the list every week as new posts come up:
Week 1 - Groundhog Day
Week 2 - Established Relationships
Week 3 - Sex Positivity
Week 4 - Unfinished Stories
Week 5 - Darker Stories
Week 6 - Potions 🧪
Week 7 - Reveals
Week 8 - 👻Halloween🎃
Week 9 - Wrong Perceptions
Week 10 - Non-Senshi AU
Week 11 - In-Progress Fics
Week 12 - Mutual Pining
Week 13 - Enemies to Lovers
Week 14 - Slow Burn
Week 15 - Christmas Part 1 - Ugly Christmas Sweaters and Santa!
Week 16 - Christmas Part 2
Week 17 - New Years
Week 18 - High School AU
Week 19 - Slice of Life

for neither can live while the other survives …
@alexandersimpleton @meritre24601 Time Fix AU summary!
The biggest problem in this Frederick rewind the past (Time Fix AU) fic is, he only know what he sees/heard/experienced until ep 145 - so that's means certain important CPC plot points that he not witness and unaware will be unknown to him + huge disadvantage that he didn't know what Leland planning. Basic CPC arcs where Frederick participates in order are as the following (crossed out if in canon, Frederick not there so he has no knowledge regarding about it):
Introductions up to Jamie's wake, and the day after (ep16) he returns to the past
Gwen's slumber party diverges to CPC learns the time curse that Frederick had from the letter [example of the 'cursed' letter taken from Spy x Family latest chapter]
Tumblr media
3) The trip to the amusement park -> instead going to the site 'perfect relation-ship' with Jamie, here Frederick going to the Mirror House
4) Prez lecture, meets Aurelia and Renee changes to Frederick first meeting to CPC, instead much later on like canon + Frederick's day (ep33-34) will changes, I think idea that he try to explain his curse to his family sans Leland will be good
5) CPC outing lessons -> CPC learns more about the time curse, how it connected to Frederick and Gwen + meeting Princels, but have outcome that Orson geeking about ToRT with Fred + Balcony serenade, not sure how it goes bit it differs with canon because now Fred w CPC
6) Lance BD party - CPC got closed for a week because Prez got period and transformed to be were-spider atm
7) Aurelia's trickery not sure how to make new plan for her outing both Gwen and Fred from the club + Premonition, Frederick's initation, Whitney meets CPC early and reveals the truth about the curse name is "star-crossed lovers"
8) Potrait duel + moving the part of Pastel queen potrait mystery in here, comes quicker because deadline sooner
9) CPC intruder arc - the day when death premonition happen
10) Switching the order time of Gwen's dinner party and Jamie's art show event? Kinda interesting to add Beckett and Leopold in the dinner guests but is that realistic?
11) Calm before storm, countdown of less than a month for the "death"line - revealing truths about the Diary of Lilyth (Gwen's side to prevent her death) and Leland's Plan (Frederick's side to prevent his death, deeps in the hole)
12) The Gala, is the final arc in this time fix AU with;
good ending: they discover the nature of their death, succesfully thwarted it with capturing Leland with crime of faking artifact.
bad ending: their efforts fail, Gwen and Fred doomed to die
P.S: regarding "Star-Crossed Lovers" curse
Two lovers doomed to be kept apart no matter how hard they struggle to be together. It may be Fate, or fatally-Feuding Families, or it may be something as mundane as a few hundred miles' separation, but something will always be in their way. In modern times, the term "star-crossed" is often unknowingly misused to mean lovers who are meant to be together. It means just the opposite — the stars (i.e. destiny or the heavens) have ruled against them, or "crossed" their plan. It usually, but not always, refers to unlucky outcomes. Two lovers might be not together in life, but could be in the after-life after passing away together - now in term of this fic;
somewhere in the middle of the story, Whitney 'crashing' Frederick's initiation a.k.a the Slumber Party when Gwen giving miss princess P.A.N.D.A keychain to Frederick. Then..
Whitney: This the first time I've seen someone with 'star-crossed lovers' curse.. you two fates are intertwined so tightly to each other.. Neither can live while the other survives...
Abbi: wait, why the curse's name is romantic? stars & lovers...
Syrah: Abbi no, is more omnious.. tragic even..
Monika: I remember this similar with the tale from my kingdom.. Orihime and Okibishi
Nell: This curse means both Gwen and Frederick should surviving their future together, or if can't will die together
...So, it's impossible for me to passed away without trace - because I will dragging Gwen to die together with me?
This indeed omnious, but I am kinda glad? This will make sure that Frederick won't thinks lowly about his life. He should survives so we could be together in this world...
#angsts with happy ending (hopefully)

20 Questions for Fic Writers
thank you @mdelpin for the tag!
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
It's currently sitting at 643, across 50+ fandoms.
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
4,616,142 words and counting/
3. What fandoms do you write for?
I am hugely multifandom and have dabbled in 50+ fandoms, but my main ones are Fairy Tail, Overwatch, Critical Role and K Project.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
How to Care for Your Wizard (Critical Role)
What Lays Beneath (Critical Role)
A Tangled Web of Fire (Critical Role)
Fairy Tail Drabbles (Fairy Tail)
Scorched Bonds (Critical Role)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Sometimes. I'm a bit of a hermit, so I tend to do it in phases and then retreat into the ether for a bit. But I appreciate every single comment.
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Ah, there are so so many fics I could put for this. But I think I will go with Lightning Falls (Fairy Tail), it's part of a series that absolutely has my highest death count by far.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I have a tendency to lean towards angsty stuff, and happy endings cover such a spectrum too. So I am going to go with What Price Humanity? (Fairy Tail) which is both angsty, but does have a happy ending.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I have on a couple of fics.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Sometimes. I find it the most challenging thing to write, and it certainly takes me longer to write. But, I've dabbled from vanilla to more kink related smut.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
Not proper crossovers. I'll sometimes do AUs inspired by something else, but that's about it. I'm not a huge fan of reading crossovers so I think that's bled over.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Yes.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Honestly not sure.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No, and I think I would be a nightmare to co-write with just because of how I write lol.
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
I am nearly as multi-ship as I am multifandom, but I think my all time favourite has to be Sarumi (Yata and Fushimi from K Project).
15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
Grim Reaper. I absolutely love the story and the inspiration behind it, but it was the subject of a targeted attack for some time and it has soured it somewhat for me.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Description and Angst (not sure that should be a strength... but my collection of tears has to count for something).
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Smut - I can do it but it's a challenge, and humour. I am not a fan on comedy anyway, and it's even more of a struggle to write it.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I don't mind it, as long as it fits the flow of the story and works for what the author was trying to achieve.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Supernatural
20. Favourite fic you've ever written?
Hmm, probably one of my ongoing ones - Tainted Red (K Project). It just grew so much from the original idea and is a lot of fun to work on.
Not sure who else is still around so if you see this consider yourself tagged if you want to have a go.

Note
3, 8, 9, 26
Hey, I'm so sorry, this may have been sitting here a while and I'm not sure which ask game it relates to now. I remember opening it, thinking, oh, I'll do that when I'm home, and then forgetting My apologies for basically being useless :/
I'll answer them for the last one I posted, but if yoou sent this, and you remember sending it, and I'm answering the wrong questions (if you even remember what they were!) then please let me know <3
3. What’s your favorite fic that you’ve written?
Oooh, that's a tough one. I'm really proud of A Softer Place to Fall for being one of the few canon compliant (at the time of writing) Caryl fics I've ever written.
And likewise, a Jonathan x Arabella canon compliant ficlet I'm incredibly proud of is The Death of Prescriptions - unusual in that it's G rated, which I hardly ever do, but it is super cute. And Jonathan Strange is such a goddamn pleasure of a character to write.
For AUs, it'll probably be Just Adrift of Monsters. That's the AU world I think about the most, and think about returning to the most. I have ideas for both a sequel and a one-shot in that universe. (Kind of painful that it got so few views and even less attention, but I'm still proud of it)
8. What project(s) are you currently working on?
I have about 20 unfinished WIPs in my documents folder, but the ones I'm working on most are part three to my Hunger Games AU, and a Borderlands AU that will be both a Caryl and a Richonne story.
Writing Rick and Michonne don't come naturally to me, so it's going to be a long time coming that one. It's also going to be pretty slow burn for both couples, and an inordinate amount of action, so I'm hoping to maybe get it up online some time before I turn 50 (only half joking!)
9. Do you write every day? If you wrote today, share a sentence of what you’ve written!
"They were met with a gruesome tableau of death and devastation. The once-pristine ground was now marred by the lifeless bodies of Hyperion soldiers and engineers, and scattered among the fallen were the shattered remnants of more Loaders, their mechanical frames now reduced to twisted metal and sparking wires.
Daryl's eyes darted frantically to the guard tower that Carol had held earlier. It stood sentinel-like against the night sky, an ominous presence that filled him with dread, as he realized the spotlight that she was supposed to keep moving was now eerily stationary."
26. Is there something you’ve written that you would never want your family to see?
I've answered this previously to say basically everything I've ever written ever, but if you want something a bit more specific, this piece of porn with absolutely zero plot
Thanks for asking, and again, I'm sorry for taking so long to answer <3

Good evening ! I was swooshed into re-reading some chapters of the Ijichi fic i keep talking about -it got updated and it pushed me to re-read some other chapters after the latest one
I don't know if you know that guy, but I've known him for at least a year and a half because we were in a book club together and he convinced me to listen to TMA and now i really, but really want to hug them to death because of that
I've never really told anyone (before today) about my favorite sportive activity -not that into it for me to be a sport, but enough for me to love it. not that i can still do it (i hope if we can find something to alleviate a bit my pain, i'm going back to it asap). but, yeah, i roller-skated, but like to a point
I did it for, like, 9 years (not that i'm great at it). and then had to stop it last year in December, when it became clear that i won't be able to do it again (realized that with ice-skating), and, well, i talked about that with my therapist today, bc i surprisingly enough never once referenced that one huge part of my life
and it makes me so sad, so fucking sad. like no one i know knew about that before today, my family didn't really like roller-skating (they always preferred bicycles over rollers), so i don't really have someone who can understand how big it is for me to not be able yo be back in my rollers (i'm an inline skates guy btw)
it just feels right to skate and since falling is a big part of it, well, i had to abandon to do it
i'm not angry about it, just, just terribly sad
anyway. it's just. i don't like talking about skating or anything related to it, so that's why no one knows about that. i don't like high speed, i like skating on flat surfaces and that's all. so i never joined a group or smth like that
and omg today's ask is fucking long, but
i never share about this. never. i don't feel lonely skating, but i'm just alone, no one to talk about it, no that i want this now since my knees' state, but past me would have loved that. i don't want to mourn this hobby even if there's little chance for me to ever get back to it, so i chose not to talk about this for so fucking long
i would have loved to know some skaters or people who do tricks on bicycles when i could still do it, maybe i wouldn't feel like this now if i had people who understood me
anyway
have a wonderful morning my friend
oh god that's really sad, i'm really sorry you're going through that :(((((( it's a thing you get to mourn, for sure <3 sending all the hugs i can
i uh, forgot to eat until now 😅😅 got distracted packing for my trip and stuff
END OF MAGNUS !!! congratulations and i'm sorry for your loss LMAO
my computer is STILL repairing :)))))))))))))))) after more than 48 hours :)))))))))))))))))))))))))) at least i'll be able to abandon it for another 48 without wanting to use it
thats a lie i want to use it right now
whatever
train ride tonight!! it'll be dark before i even leave home, but at least that gives me the opportunity to listen to spooky podcasts hehe
hope your fics are comforting and familiar, and i hope you have a lovely evening, friend!!

Fic Author Interview
Thanks for the tag @benevolenterrancy !
1 How many works do you have on AO3?
55, for now. There will be a lot more...
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
516,744 - which I don't know how to feel about. It seems like too little but also like... Woah. I guess it's because I'm so used to read a comma as the symbol that separates full numbers from decimals, so it doesn't really register as over 500 thousand in my brain. Because as soon as it gets into my brain that it's actually hundreds of thousands of words... We're definitely in the woah territory.
3. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
First is Favourite Pastime with 63 - and I'm honestly really surprised by this. A Ghostbusters fic?! But I'm also really glad because... I dare say... Favourite Pastime is one of my better fics. It's pretty good.
Second place goes to The Rule of Three with 57, my Star Wars fic. It barely has any chapters, but it's still so popular and I kinda love it. Glad my fic of anger issues and sibling bickering resonated so well lol
Third is My Heart, My Liege, Mi Capitán with 53, which means we're now in song lyric title and OPLA territory and YES. I kinda love Cora's fic, I put a lot of heart into it, so I'm really glad that people like it.
Fourth place is, unfortunately, a Harry Potter fic. I mean, it makes sense. It's one of my biggest fandoms and one of my oldest fics, so it would naturally gather a lot of Kudos but... it's bad! Not this one in particular, this one is still pretty alright, but I have so many better fics that deserve this spot! I have a love-hate relationship with my Harry Potter fics...
Fifth place - and here's the big news - is Golden Spiders - my newest fic! The one I'm currently still working on! This one took off and I couldn't be happier! So thanks to everyone who made this possible <3
4. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Absolutely, yeah! I love hearing what people think about my fics and I love interacting with my readers. It's really, really great, and one of the things that keeps me going and motivated.
5. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
On AO3 or on Tumblr? On AO3, it would be Die Drei ?? - Squid Game AU. On Tumblr, it's this one. Both Squid Game related, who would've thought?
6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
The happiest?! Oh boy, I don't know. I do love a happy ending! But I also love some angst on the way, so... Take your pick! Which of my characters had it best? I think it might be Till Death Do Us Part, for as angsty as it can be? But I dunno, you tell me.
7. Do you write crossovers?
Yes! I've written some crossovers before and I definitely will again. They're always fun!
8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?
I don't know, I don't remember. Probably not but I've received some non-constructive criticism.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Yeah, by now I do write smut. But I write it using what I like to call the "Felix Krull Method" (named after a book I had to read for my finals that wrote its sex scenes in such a way), so using lots of euphemisms, metaphors and avoiding full-on explicit language because I just don't feel comfortable writing it like that and because it just wouldn't fit in with my writing style. My style is very heavy on metaphors, comparisons, allusions, so it wouldn't make sense for me to completely switch registers into your typical smut language. To be clear, I don't dislike that sort of register per se, it just doesn't work for me. This may sound like a bit of a weird way to write smut, but I've been told it works perfectly and I think it's fun, so I will keep doing it this way :)
10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not a fic but a character. And that's my Harry Potter OC, Asteria Malfoy. I was very salty about it and I still am because I didn't have the guts to put my foot down back then and tell them that they weren't allowed to use the concept and name even if they claimed it was a "reference" to my fic. They should've at least asked permission!
11. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No, not yet. But I plan to translate my Auxiliary AU fics when I reboot them!
12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Not really, but I've helped work on fleshing out characters and such.
13. What’s your all-time favorite ship?
My all-time favourite? You can't possibly make me pick! I love all of my OC ships a totally healthy amount and am occasionally overcome by a heavy sense of yearning for them, so... Yeah. Currently very in love with Mihawk/Aurelia and Sanji/Cora though
14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
Oh girl... Maybe The Rule of Three? Or my Vocalization series? Unless the hyperfixation hits, those are stuck.
15. What are your writing strengths?
Descriptions. Visualization. I love that shit. Also, I'd be willing to claim that I'm good at characterization. You can also trust me to throw in little references for the reader to find :)
16. What are your writing weaknesses?
Probably my indecisiveness. I also need to hold myself by a leash not to rush my relationships. This is especially bad with my OC Cora because, for trauma-related reasons, she reacts badly to being touched and will need some time to ease into it. So, I have to bonk myself on the head every time I want to have her hug and cuddle people because she would not do that yet. Also, I had to stop myself from having her kiss Sanji multiple times because it's just too early for that.
17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
I think it's great! Adds a bit of realism. I just always get very nervous doing it if it's a language I don't speak because I don't want to make mistakes.
18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?
The first one ever or on AO3? On AO3, it's Die Drei ???, a popular book series in Germany.
19. What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet but want to?
My currently unintroduced OCs ^^" Currently, I really wanna write a Lux/Zoro fic because I love their dynamic
20. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
I can't answer that because I love so many of my fics! But the longer ones are usually pretty good.

20 Questions for Writers
tagged by: @dilf-in-peril
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
13 plus a fourteenth that's part of an exchange and hasn't been revealed yet.
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
25,112
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Right now it's all wrestling.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
Despite the Snow, Despite the Falling Snow — American Gods (TV); Mad Sweeney/Shadow Moon
Like it Rough — Our Flag Means Death (TV); Israel Hands/Lucius Spriggs (this one isn't very good and I thought I had deleted it until I checked to make this post. only lands here because it's a big fandom i guess)
Poison on Our Lips — Saw (Movies); Adam Faulkner-Stanheight/Lawrence Gordon (this one's been getting a bit extra traffic now with the Saw fandom resurging)
The Lies We Tell Ourselves — Insidious (Movies); Specs/Tucker (this was never finished. it's also been getting some spillover attention from leigh whannell fans)
In the Dead of Night — The Terror (TV 2018); George Henry Hodgson/John Irving
(my most popular wrestling fic, my collected kinktober fills from last year, just barely misses this list)
5. Do you respond to comments?
I should. I try to. I used to. I rarely do.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
eh I usually don't write super angsty endings. I guess the Specs/Tucker one is pretty dreary since I abandoned it at a little cliffhanger.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
excluding orgasms, Despite the Snow, Despite the Falling Snow is my only genuine angst with a happy ending. and it's a pretty cute get-together.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
no, my fics aren't popular or controversial enough for that
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Yep. Usually kinky stuff, and often stuff I myself find sort of weird. Gotta exorcise it i guess.
Funny enough, I used to write a fair bit of smut as a teen, deleted it all and spent years not writing any, and then it's been naught but smut since 2021.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
no, I don't enjoy reading them either.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
No.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I'm pretty certain Despite the Snow, etc. was translated into Chinese back when I first posted it but ao3 doesn't show any related works. Maybe it got deleted?
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Nope!
14. What's your all-time favorite ship?
I'm pretty fickle so I usually just stick to my favs in my current fandom. Right now it's CMJF with Joepunk contesting it for #1. My Stormpilot shipping would rear back up with every new Star Wars release so it was probably my longest-lasting ship.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
My Punk/AJ/Ace Steel fill for kinktober was supposed to be part of a longer fic that never got farther into than the very beginning and that extract I posted.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I feel like I'm pretty good at showing characters' feelings through action, without much internal monologue. I've been told I balance comedy and smut well which. I don't consider myself a funny person but I do like to lean into the absurdist premises of porn i guess
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Visual description. Partially because I'm bad at it, partially because I think it adds too much fluff and avoid it. Problem is I have a very visual imagination so fics that feel super detailed in my mind end up being 200 words long with no plot, because it's all just mise-en-scène that I can't get on the page.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I've never really done it but I tend to enjoy when it's there. It may be cheesy but I love a good pet name in the character's native language.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
I dabbled a bit in Phantom of the Opera fic, but really got going in the Hannibal fandom.
20. Favorite fic you've written?
around 2017 I was really trying to make my fics feel ~atmospheric~ and I feel like I achieved that best in Despite the Snow, etc., even if it's partially adapting a scene from the book that never made it to the show (that I know of, I didn't watch past s1). I feel like I'm still plopping around awkwardly in wrestling fic so I really couldn't pick a favourite.
