Mumbai had heavy downpour past few days due to which most parts of city had water logging. #worldenvironmentday Hindus devotees throng the most scared river Ganga to take dip in the water and hold the belief that thier sin is washed off. It is heart breaking to see this majestic and most beautiful river revered by millions of Indian, is slowly being destroyed. Under the Govt scheme Clean Gange (Namami Gange) a budget outlay of 20,000 crore to excuted over five years. Later 2000 crore hike in budgetary allocation was made, yet nothing much has been achieved, Ganga remains polluted with sewage waste and Industrial affluents dumbed in to it. Given its religious importance there is over flow of devotees at its bank and leaving behind lit eathern lamps and marigold flowers in the Ganga. #WorldMilkDay The Bombay Pranjrapole Trust established Gaushala in 1834, it was meant to house stray cattle, dogs, birds and donkey. It is oldest animal shelter in the city. It is still in existence in Gujarati dominated area in Bhuleshwar of Mumbai. Cows are scared animal for the Hindu religion and they worship it. These Underprivileged children appear cheerful from upper story of thier make shift hut. It was recently demolished by BMC squad. For these poor kids it is month of Ramzan ( Ramadan) and they keep Roza which means fasting from dawn to sunset. There is no trace of any hardship or mental stress on thier faces due to no proper housing ( huts get demolished frequently), no water connection, unhygienic surrounding and after breaking fasting, they don't get stomach full food too as they belong to the poorest of the poor. Point the cell camera at these underprivileged children it brings out sheer joy and happiness seen on their faces. These kids staying at illegal shanties located near railway lines are the poorest strata of our society. They had received eviction notice from the slum demolition squad of BMC and subsequently thier slums were demolished, they now stay in a make shift huts made of bamboos and dirty clothes. It is matter of time they will be shifting elsewhere to housing provided by the government. Once upon a time she and her siblings used to wriggle and prance back and forth in excitement in the temple premise, they were cynosure of devotees coming to temple and sharing prasad with these handsome siblings, but tragedy struck them one day, when they were attack by a snake. One of the siblings lost her life trying to save the other one. Today in Kerala's cultural abode Thrissur there will be one of the largest congregation of people at Vadakkannathun temple to witness the most colourful and fascinating festival known as Thrissur pooram. Caprisoned elephants accompanied by musical group melam consisting of drums, trumpet and cymbals and in the night there will be display of colorful fireworks. Mumbai is reeling under heat wave and the temperature is expected to rise further to 37 degree Celsius this weekend. Respiratory and water borne diseases are common due to sweltering heat and humidity. Schools are closed for summer vacation and for the kids playing out in the sun pose health risk like sun stroke. Today is #internationalstreetchildrensday. My foray into street photography began when I was moved looking at the miserable lives eked out by street children on Mumbai footpath. Since then I have been documenting Mumbai street children and sharing it on social networking trying to create awareness about them to society at large and to government who are primarily responsible to take care of these hapless children. The first ever census on street children conducted by Tata institute of social science (TISS) it was estimated that 37059 lived on Mumbai streets as per newpaper report in 2013. Since then thier population keeps on increasing. These street children are victims of verbal, physical and sexual abuse, starvation and rampant drug addiction.
