Anne Hathaway Had Two ‘Colossal’ Fashion Moments on Tuesday
Tumblr media

After the show it’s the after-party – and one should dress for each occasion accordingly. Tuesday evening, Anne Hathaway showed us how it’s done for the New York premiere of her new film, Colossal.
The actress turned out to the AMC theater at Lincoln Square in Manhattan in a black one-shoulder Spring 2006 Armani Privé gown, boasting a ruffled, fanlike flourish at the neckline, as well as down the sides and on the bottom half of the dress. The look was a sculptural standout, which meant all Hathaway needed was to pull back her hair and carry a simple Edie Parker clutch to complete the look.
Once the premiere was over, it was on to the next event – the after-party. Hathaway opted for a red floral printed vintage Oscar de la Renta dress, letting her hair freely fall down.

Lady Gaga Is a Glamorous Multitasker
Tumblr media

Looks like Lady Gaga is already having a pretty productive day. The singer shared a video to Instagram on Monday morning, starting her week off right with a bit of glamorous multitasking. In it, the singer appears to be dyeing her platinum blonde hair with plastic strips while strumming a guitar.
Practice makes permanent that’s what my teacher always said. Gotta get these fingers tough as nails like my soul.
A video posted by Lady Gaga (@ladygaga) on Oct 17, 2016 at 1:07am PDT
“Practice makes permanent that’s what my teacher always said,” she captioned the image. “Gotta get these fingers tough as nails like my soul.” Certainly beats reading a months-old issue of Us Weekly at the salon, doesn’t it?
Cuz that’s my middle name, & my daddy named me after his sister. ✌️So I named this album #JOANNE
A photo posted by Lady Gaga (@ladygaga) on Oct 16, 2016 at 8:11pm PDT
Late Sunday night, Gaga also shared some interesting topless photos of herself in a cowboy hat, sitting at a table and rifling through a binder. In the trio of pictures, the songstress explains why she titled her forthcoming album Joanne (it’s her middle name, after her father’s sister) and explains the cowboy hat. “I remember when I started writing this record I scrubbed down real good in the shower and then put on this pastel hat.”
Cool hats, fly hair, and a little guitar — Gaga is already nailing this new week and Monday isn’t even over yet.

Trump's Super Long Ties Hilariously Trolled by Dedicated Twitter Account

Whether you support him fully – or aren’t too keen on him – Donald J. Trump is the president of the United States. And he wears really, really long ties – sometimes with scotch tape!
The POTUS’s penchant for elongated versions of the men’s accessory has made headlines before, and one Twitter account @TrumpsTies humorously highlights that by photoshopping the president’s ties to a exaggerated lengths.

Blogger Shows How Body Positivity Goes Beyond Bikini Selfies
Tumblr media
Lexie, a body positive blogger posted side-by-side photos of herself. Both are beautiful, both are body positive. (Photo: Instagram/soworthsaving)
We’re all for seeing women of different sizes flaunt their bods on social media in support of body positivity. But one of the movement’s supporters is taking a bit of a different approach to showing how proud she is of her figure.
Lexie, a blogger and mental health and body positivity advocate, posted side-by-side photos of herself: In one, she wears a bra and leggings, and in the other, a long tunic top with leggings. Above the image in her skivvies, the caption reads, “Body positive.” Above the fully clothed picture, “Still body positive.”
Lexie says she felt compelled to create the post after receiving messages from people expressing their weariness of the dubious dynamic of revealing photos garnering more attention. “I want to let you know that you do not have to post more ‘revealing’ photos of yourself to participate in body positivity.” Lexie acknowledges that she has shared images of herself in more revealing fare, and that those images tend to get more likes and comments. She calls the phenomenon a “flaw in the system.”
“The ‘flaw in the system’ I’m speaking to isn’t around our bravery; it’s about putting so much of the focus on our bodies,” she wrote. “There can also be bravery in our words. There can be bravery found in the photo on the right if for years I was too scared to post a photo of my whole body.”
There’s this misconception that in order to be Body Positive, you must “bare it all” on social media. I choose to post more “vulnerable” photos of myself because I feel empowered to do so. To be honest, it took me some time to get to this place. I used to be terrified of posting even an unedited selfie of my face on my private Facebook page. It took me time to get more comfortable with this. And that is okay. I want to let you know that you do not have to post more “revealing” photos of yourself to participate in Body Positivity. I have noticed that my more “revealing” posts get way more exposure and likes and comments. I think that’s a flaw in the system; it is visual that we get drawn into quickly and we see it as brave to show our bodies as they are. I personally think it is brave. I have struggled with my body image for countless years and I know for myself that posting photos like the one on the left is brave for me. The “flaw in the system” I’m speaking to isn’t around our bravery; it’s about putting so much of the focus on our bodies. There can also be bravery in our words. There can be bravery found in the photo on the right if for years I was too scared to post a photo of my whole body. This is for the people who have messaged me about this dynamic in the community. This is for the people who feel disheartened because they feel like they cannot make as big of an impact without posting something they aren’t ready to share. You can inspire others fully dressed. You can inspire others half naked or naked. I think the flaw in the system isn’t ever going to go away, and that’s okay. I wanted to take some time here to acknowledge it though because I think it’s important. I may inspire you through me posting photos similar to the one on the left. I am also inspiring through my actions, my words, my story, my struggles, and my strength. You are enough as you are and I commend you if you post more “vulnerable” photos like I do. And I also commend you if you aren’t comfortable with doing so yet or at all. Come as you are and do what feels comfortable and empowering for you – not for others. ⭐️
A post shared by Lexie ✨ (@soworthsaving) on Apr 4, 2017 at 10:10am PDT
“You can inspire others fully dressed,” she wrote. “You can inspire others half naked or naked. I may inspire you through me posting photos similar to the one on the left. I am also inspiring through my actions, my words, my story, my struggles, and my strength.”
She continued: “You are enough as you are and I commend you if you post more ‘vulnerable’ photos like I do. And I also commend you if you aren’t comfortable with doing so yet or at all. Come as you are and do what feels comfortable and empowering for you — not for others.”
Commenters were grateful to Lexie for spreading her positive message. One commenter wrote: “Thank you for this, I’m very happy with my body, but I wear boys swim shorts when I swim because modesty is very important to me. For me, modesty is liberating, and I respect any women [loving] themselves, whether that’s openly or privately.”
Another added: “I can’t thank you enough for this post … I’ve been feeling as if I don’t belong here because I don’t, as you said, bear it all … You are truly an inspiration for me.”
Others elaborated on how the popularity of revealing body positive pictures has made them feel alienated from the community. “I tend to feel like I’m not really body positive because I don’t share revealing pictures of myself online,” another person wrote. “Not because I’m not comfortable with my body but because it doesn’t align with my beliefs. Anyways, I’m just really glad you said this because us modest girls/boys (for whatever reason) need to know that body positivity can be with clothes on as well.”
Lexie’s post reminds us to always challenge and critique schools of thought, even if they are rooted in something positive.

Student Barred From Prom Over the Length of Her Dress
Tumblr media
Amari Williams in the dress that got her barred from the prom. (Photo: Amari Williams)
Amari Williams was all done up in her custom-made prom dress, ready to experience the high-school milestone in style. But by the time she got to school, she was turned away at the door because the principal said her outfit went against the prom dress code.
Williams’s mother, Troynetta Williams, told Yahoo Style that her daughter had skipped junior prom last year in order to make her senior prom extra special. Amari, she said, goes part-time to Carencro High School in Lafayette, La., and used the money she saved working to get herself a custom-made dress for the occasion. She also says that her daughter, along with a friend, went to the principal before the dress was made to get school approval.
On prom night, Amari was all ready to dance the evening away with her buddies in the bespoke threads that took about three weeks to make. But school principal Mary Qualey had other plans, keeping Amari from entering the prom, claiming her dress broke the formal dress code by not touching the floor.
Tumblr media

As Lafayette Parish School System chief administrative officer Joe Craig told KLFY 11, “The length [of the dress] has to be all the way to the ground, all the way around; kind of easy to remember. In this case, the dress was not all the way to the ground and on that basis, it wasn’t considered a formal dress.” There was also reportedly a letter sent to parents in January about the prom dress code.
Still, Amari and Troynetta maintain that principal Qualey had given Amari the green light to wear the look to the prom. Troynetta said that 10 minutes after her daughter showed up, she got a phone call and rushed to the school armed with scissors and pins to make any last-minute modifications so that her daughter may be able to enjoy her night. “I asked [principal Qualey] what was going on, [the dress] was approved months ago and she OK’d it. She told me, ‘I’ve seen a lot of pictures.’ We just kind of stood around, and my daughter was in tears,” Williams said.
Williams told us her daughter being barred from the prom was even more confusing, as she noticed other kids in outfits that didn’t quite follow the dress code.
“The dress code, when I looked over it, it did mention that the dress had to be floor length, and they considered it not formal since it wasn’t the same length all the way around,” Williams told us. “But then I brought it to her attention that some of the rules in the dress-code policy also state that midriffs, high splits, or low back dresses aren’t allowed. As I’d been standing there, I saw she’d been allowing all those types of dresses into prom, but here she denies my daughter, and she’s dressed appropriately, not showing any skin or anything inappropriate at all. Her response to me was she used her own judgement.”
Tumblr media
Another look at the dress Amari Williams never got to wear at the prom. (Photo: Amari Williams)
Williams still doesn’t quite understand why her daughter was not allowed to attend her prom. “I don’t know if it was because of the type of dress that it was. She was the only one that had an African-style dress,” she said.
Williams also mentioned that it seemed as if Principal Qualey was a bit conflicted about barring her daughter. “She actually seemed like she wanted to be a little bit lenient about it, but she asked her assistant and the assistant said, ‘That’s not formal.’ I was just appalled. I was like, ‘What is your version of formal? Is it not flared enough, not poufy enough, are there not enough sequins? Does she not have enough skin showing?‘’
We reached out to Principal Qualey for comment, and will update when we hear back.
In the meantime, Amari is working on getting past her prom night, now ruined. “She’s been getting a lot of support from friends. Some teachers have reached out to her apologizing, as they found out about it later on,” Amari’s mother says. “But it’s not something she can get back. She can’t go back to her senior prom, something that she’s waited for all her life. So it really hit hard.”
Williams thinks that the situation could have been handled better by the school. “The fact that she was pushed to the side and others were allowed in, that wasn’t properly addressed.”

Update: Students Apologize for 'Racist' Promposal at Center of Social Media Firestorm
Tumblr media
A recently tweeted image of girls holding a racist sign has caused outrage online. (Photo: Jon Aro via Twitter)
UPDATE: On Friday, the day after this post was originally published, WPLG Local 10 News in Florida published an update on the situation. “Two South Florida high school students have been suspended after a distasteful sign they were holding in a prom proposal picture was placed on the Internet,” the story reads.
“The father of one of the students holding the sign says it was an unfortunate inside joke that was never meant to be seen on social media. Through their parents, all the girls have apologized.”
According to the Local 10 News report, the girls on the left and right in the photo were directing their promposal to the middle girl, who is the heir to her grandmother’s Alabama cotton farm, is homeschooled, and was not originally planning to attend the prom.
“They really want to apologize for their extremely poor choice of words in this situation,” said the father of another student. “They would like to take it back, they would like to find a different way to express this invitation to prom.”
******
Promposal season is in full swing, and while we all love seeing the extravagant, dramatic, adorable ways kids are asking each other to prom these days, some proposals are simply in poor taste.
Today’s questionable gesture comes courtesy of some students who allegedly attend Monarch High School in Coconut Creek, Fla., where a receptionist tells Yahoo Style that the principal is aware of” the photo — made public through a tweet posted on Wednesday by Monarch High School alum Jon Aro, aka user @papichombo. It shows an Instagram screenshot (from a now-defunct account) of three teenage girls, one black and two white, holding up a cardboard sign reading, “You may be picking cotton, but we’re picking you to go to prom with us.”
“It is two thousand and f***ing seventeen,” Aro wrote captioning the image. And while it is unknown when the photo was taken and who the sign is addressing, people had unsurprisingly strong reactions, with the post being retweeted more than 8,000 times and “liked” more than 11,000, and earning a huge collection of angered comments.

@papichombo @deannaa_24 things like this just remind me of the ignorance & stupidity of our society today. Sad just sad.

Some people were most disturbed that a black girl agreed to be in such a problematic photo.
@papichombo she prob feels like she has to laugh along with the racist jokes so they will like her…sad

@papichombo this is what happens when your African American and don’t understand this country history towards you
— King Friend Zone (@donaldofficiall) March 30, 2017
While some Twitter commenters named the sign holders, Yahoo Style was unable to confirm the girls’ identities.
Aro, 18, now a Palm Beach State College student, tells Yahoo Style via Instagram direct message that a friend of his posted the image on her private Instagram page. He called the joke “intolerable.”
“I decided to post it on Twitter because it is 2017 and stuff like this is completely revolting,” he explains. “I had thought we had been past the plight of racism. Apparently we hadn’t.” Aro says he has no regrets about his decision to share the photo publicly, adding, “Just as she decided to take a picture of it, let alone post it on social media, I decided to do the same.”
Whatever is exactly happening in the problematic photo, it’s far from the first time a racist promposal has reared its ugly head online. Last year, a picture of a white boy asking a black girl to prom went viral because the young man decided to use Kool-Aid, fried chicken, and watermelon (foods used to stereotype and mock black people) to woo his date. Another young white man asked a black girl to prom with a similar KFC-themed promposal.
While the kids may be smiling and laughing, the fact of the matter is this stuff simply isn’t funny. And it’s apparently not something that’s always outgrown in high school. From the racist Snapchat images that caused public outcry in 2016, to recent Fox News comments directed toward Rep. Maxine Waters, racist “jokes” are alive and well.
Yahoo Style will update this post with any additional details we hear.

Patrick Starrr Slays as Moana in Beach Photo Shoot
Tumblr media
Patrick Starrr’s Moana transformation is nothing short of epic. (Photo: Instagram/Patrickstarrr)
Patrick Starrr is a guy who clearly lives his life one slay at a time. The YouTube Beauty guru is a master with a makeup brush, and also a true blue diva in front of the camera. But in case you forgot (or didn’t know), Starrr can also quite thoroughly snatch your edges without so much as ample warning. And this weekend’s series of photos is a testament to just that.
Starr is one of the many beauty influencers who attended the #friendswithbenefit trip hosted by Benefit Cosmetics at Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands. Like many of his fellow gurus, he took advantage of the lush tropical scenery to churn out some shots for the ’gram. And the results? Can you say everything?

A post shared by patrickstarrr (@patrickstarrr) on Mar 24, 2017 at 4:59pm PDT
Starrr’s series of fierce photos begins with him lounging in a pool, rocking an oversized visor and his signature head wrap. He also treated us to a smattering of snaps which appear to be taken in a tropical forest. We see Starrr in a black swimsuit, sheer dark green coverup, and head wrap, posing for his life on the rocks and looking like an exotic tropical flower we’re just dying to pick.

He followed up with a topless photo in which he wore nothing but patterned shorts and a long black wig. Starr also channeled the warrior-princess aesthetic in another beach snap.
But our favorite look from Starrr’s #friendswithbenefit trip has to be the one where he dresses up as Disney princess Moana. With a grass skirt, flowing locks, and a bandeau top, Starr nailed the outfit. “My name is Moana Starrr and you will board my boat!” he captioned the image. Let’s just say we’ve been on board long before this post.

Starrr’s fans were also feeling the look. “C’mon life size Moana!!,” one person commented. “I love Moana this is my FAVORITE thing that came from the trip,” another said, while another wondered, “Can you just dress like this on a day to day [basis]? It’s my favorite p starrr look!” We are not opposed.
While we doubt Starrr will be serving Moana realness at this level on the regs, it’s clear that plenty on social media — Yahoo Style included — are enjoying his interpretation of the Disney character.

Kerry Washington Looks Ravishing in a Red Roksanda Jumpsuit
Tumblr media
Kerry Washington is a vision in red Roksanda. (Photo: Getty Images)
Kerry Washington had us seeing red this weekend, and we definitely weren’t mad about it.
The actress turned out for a PaleyFest panel on Sunday with her Scandal costars. The panel discussion was preceded by a screening of the pilot episode — though it may have been hard for the audience to focus on the show with Washington on hand looking oh-so-perfect.
For the event, she slipped into a red Roksanda jumpsuit that just made it to the top of our shopping wish lists. The $1,150 stretch-crepe piece boasts the label’s signature bell sleeves, embellished with a bow on each. Satin trims at the neckline, waist, and sides added a bit of sheen to the look, which Washington finished off with $650 Christian Louboutin Pigalle pumps in a metallic cappuccino hue.
Roksanda’s designs have been getting love from all kinds of women. First lady Melania Trump wore a white bell-sleeved dress from the brand to the 2016 Republican National Convention. A week later, Rep. Joyce Beatty, D-Ohio, took the stage in the dress at the Democratic National Convention, adding a pearl necklace (and tons of swag) to the look Trump had rocked.
Washington herself is involved in plenty of activism on the political left, so perhaps in spite of our differences, the work of the Serbian designer can bring American women together — at least when it comes to fashion.

Woman Found Her Missing Wedding Rings With Help of Hero Sanitation Workers
Tumblr media
Sanitation workers in New York City helped this woman find her missing rings. (Photo: Department of Sanitation)
They say one person’s trash is another person’s treasure, but sometimes that trash isn’t trash at all. Such was the case for 46-year-old Shannon Lombardo, who misplaced her wedding and engagement rings as she was cleaning them.
yahoo
After scouring her apartment on New York City’s Upper West Side, Lombardo realized that she had accidentally thrown them in the garbage. She quickly got to work trying to recover them, going as far as to call 311 and the city’s Sanitation Department to see if they could locate her rings. Surprisingly, they were game to help her.
Not only did they temporarily suspend pickups to let Lombardo look through the garbage in her building to see if she could discover the rings there — they also helped her search a dump. Lombardo and her husband, Jim, trekked out to Fairview, N.J., to a location where trash is temporarily held before moving on to a landfill. The Sanitation Department was able to identify an area where the ring may have been, so the Lombardos joined some sanitation workers and dug through the 800-bag drop for an hour until they found the rings.
Tumblr media

“Everyone was there to help out. It wasn’t a pretty job,” Shannon Lombardo told the New York Daily News. “There was mostly a lot of dog crap, coffee [grounds] and sauces — I was surprised at how wet it was.”
Ick. But for love, it’s all worth it! The Lombardos aren’t the only folks who have retrieved rings from hard-to-find places. Manhattan resident Wallace Collins lost his wedding ring after it slipped off his finger and fell through a sewer grate. When he was unable to retrieve it by himself or with the help of an associate, Con Edison swooped in to the rescue. Erin Carrozzo lost her wedding and engagement rings on Fire Island, New York, but a man with a metal detector found them and, through the magic of social media, managed to locate Carrozzo and return her precious sparklers.
Shannon Lombardo’s story is another reminder that just because you lose your wedding ring, it doesn’t mean you’ll never see it again.
“We are so pleased that Ms. Lombardo was able to get her rings back!” a spokesperson for the New York City Sanitation Department told Yahoo Style. “Thanks to coordinated efforts — starting with an initial call to 311, to the actions of NYC Sanitation personnel, to the final assistance of the New Jersey waste facility’s workers — Ms. Lombardo was able to retrieve these priceless treasures!”

The singer, who first found fame back in the aughts as an American Idol contestant, has since carved herself a path as a country music and reality-TV star. Now Pickler, 30, is all about spreading love — for Zales, that is, as she’s teamed up with the jewelry retailer for its “Our Day” ad campaign, highlighting stories of romance and special days that couples hold dear.
It’s a perfect match for Pickler, who stars alongside husband Kyle Jacobs in the CMT reality series, I Love Kellie Pickler. Because who better to front a campaign about love stories than a woman who invites the world to witness her romantic life? We caught up with Pickler at Yahoo Studios to chat about this and more.
Yahoo Style: What’s your favorite thing to do with your husband Kyle?
Kellie Pickler: I love traveling with him and seeing the world with him. But I also love just being home on the couch with him.
What is one of the best trips you’ve taken together?
We’ve had a lot of great trips together, but one that really sticks out is our trip to Rosemary Beach in Florida, back in June of 2010 — June 15th, to be exact — which is the day that he proposed to me. It was actually my grandmother’s birthday. My grandmother raised me, and she’s no longer with us, so that was always a hard day. But it ended up being one of the most beautiful days. And now, it’s our day. He had no idea. So, it’s like we got her blessing. It was a really, really, really special day.
One of the most special days in my life will always be June 15th…It is my grandmother’s birthday and it’s also the day my husband Kyle proposed. On that date in 2010, Kyle and I were in Rosemary Beach, FL on what he told me was just a “vacation”…That evening, after a romantic dinner, we took a sunset stroll on the beach…Little did I know, he had secretly planted a small wooden box in the sand…It looked like it had washed up from sea, but upon opening it, I found a true treasure…Inside contained a journal that Kyle had written for me, a seashell with my Grandmother’s name “Faye” written on it, and a beautiful engagement ring. After Kyle got down on one knee and me screaming “YES!!!”, we watched the sunset slowly paint a colorful end to a beautiful day…What was so incredible is that Kyle didn’t realize that THAT day, was also my grandmother’s birthday. It was like my beautiful angel, the one I call mom, was giving us her blessing… So, Kyle and I like to celebrate June 15th as a couple…Still and forever crazy in love…It’s #OurDay What’s your #OurDay ? Share it today with @ZalesJewelers #Ad

You’re super busy these days, also voicing a character on Nickelodeon’s Shimmer and Shine. How has that experience been for you?
It’s so much fun, I love animation. Plus, I’ve been told that I sound like a cartoon character, so I just have to go in, read the script, and have fun with it.
What are you looking forward to this spring?
Gardening! I love to plant everything! Okra, beets, kale, squash, cucumbers. I love flower gardening, as well. Okra is my favorite, though. I love me some okra!
What’s a misconception people have about reality shows?
I think people have this idea when you hear “reality,” that there’s drama and random people in our home. And I’m like, “No, it’s actually really fun!” We get to video our memories that we make together, our special moments, and look back on it. It’s so much fun. Reality shows: They’re not all bad! We definitely keep it positive and fun. We get to shine a light on things that matter to us, things that we’re passionate about, like the USO [United Service Organization].
Yes, you’ve actually done 11 USO tours! What have you learned from them?
It’s truly a blessing to be part of, and it’s life-changing. Every time I come home from a trip, I feel in some ways guilty for everything that I’ve ever taken for granted. I’ve been blessed to see firsthand exactly what these men and women do, the sacrifices that they make for all of us to sit here and be talking today. I have a great deal of respect for anyone who serves or has served, and their families. There are so many amazing stories, and I’ve met some of the most incredible people who are still a part of my life. We were in Baghdad for Christmas, and a gentleman that I was having dinner with on the [base] was a little antsy because his wife was about to go into labor at any time. He was saying how he hated that he couldn’t be there and he was trying to figure out if they could Skype so he could at least experience it. And I thought gosh, you know, I don’t even think about those things. So I enjoy all the stories people share with me, and I learn a lot for sure.

Body-Positive Pole Dancer Posed as a Mermaid and It’s Everything
Tumblr media
Photo: @rozthediva/Instagram
We’re accustomed to seeing Roz Mays (aka Roz the Diva) work it out on the pole. But as it turns out, Mama can also work a mermaid tail.
The certified personal trainer, plus-size pole dancer, and mastermind behind Dangerous Curves — a plus-size pole-dancing competition — shared a few photos on Sunday from her trip to Hawaii that will make you want to camp out on a rock somewhere near the ocean and be a siren full-time. We hear the benefits are seariously good.
In a series of images posted on Instagram, we see Mays on the beach in Waikiki, Hawaii, lying on her stomach with her arms extended, rocking a gorgeous magenta-hued mermaid tail, shells, and a lei. Mays says Hawaii-based photographer Stephanie Cannizzaro reached out to her while she was in Oahu to shoot her on the beach — and came with a mermaid tail handy, as one who has access to mermaid tails does.
And for my grand Hawaiian finale, I’m a gotdamn mermaid (more pics soon!). @coralscandidphotography SLAAAAAAYED with her camera at sunrise.
A post shared by Roz The Diva (@rozthediva) on Mar 16, 2017 at 10:24am PDT
“Stephanie had everything!” Mays shares with Yahoo Style. “Not only did she come with a tail, shell bra, and necklaces, but she knew exactly how to pose me for the best pictures. As if that weren’t enough work, she had her 8-month-old baby girl in tow. That’s some motherhood magic right there.” Indeed!
The photos show Mays looking like a bona fide sea queen in her getup — carefree, arresting, and magical. We see her splashing her tail in the waves, looking lovely and lavish on the rocks, and getting washed up onshore like a fabulous treasure from the deep.
Stephanie from @coralscandidphotography is a camera ninja with a traveling mermaid tail. WHO HAS A MERMAID TAIL ON CALL?! Genius people like Stephanie. #RozTheDiva #DangerousCurves #RozMaysEnterprises #PlusSizePole #BlackGirlsPole #BodyandPole #PlusSizeFitness #PoleLikeADamnDiva #PlusSizeHealth #PlusSizeAthlete #BodyPositiveAthletes #MyCurvesCan #IncrediPole #Healthyish

Cannizzaro tells Yahoo Style that she is all about the mermaid life. She crafted the shell bra herself and owns mermaid tails in both adult and children’s sizes. She says that, as a fellow plus-size pole dancer, she felt compelled to contact Mays for the shoot. “I have admired Roz for a long time,” she says. “It was a day’s notice, but we totally made it happen. I really wanted to meet her, but I also wanted to show that mermaids can come in all shapes, colors, and sizes! You don’t have to be a size zero to make your mermaid dreams come true!”
For Mays, the photos are a departure from her usual Instagram fare. “I live my life in sneakers and sweaty gym clothes, so it was a lot of fun trying a completely different look,” she says. And what a look it was, taking us from the pole to the Pacific Ocean!

Prom Dates Are Assigned by Lottery at This High School
yahoo
Prom season is coming up, and kids across America are mustering up the courage to find dates for one of the biggest nights of their high school years. But one school is attempting to make the process a bit easier by taking away the control students typically have when choosing their dates, instead leaving it up to chance.
Tumblr media
Would you go to a prom with a randomly assigned date? (Photo: Getty Images)
Aquin High School, in Freeport, Ill., has devised a system in which junior and senior boys are assigned dates at random by drawing cards with girls’ names on them. While the boys meet in the gym to draw the names, the girls sit and wait in the library until they are chosen.
“The real fun starts immediately after, when they put their creativity and choreography skills to the test and perform skits to ask their date to prom,” local station WREX says of the tradition.
Senior Korey Korosec added, “No matter who you get, you know you’re going to have a good time. It doesn’t leave anybody out. Everyone’s welcome to join, and no one’s not going to have a date.”
Junior class adviser Michelle Gallagher is also a supporter of the system. “I think most people are in disbelief, and a lot of people say they would hate it,” she told the station. “But I think after they kind of hear the rest of the story and hear what goes into it, I think a lot of people are actually intrigued by it.” She says that the tradition is supposed to promote camaraderie and unity among the students.
While this practice, dating back to 1926, sounds like a good way to equalize the playing field and get kids to interact with different people in their school, we can think of some potential drawbacks. What if a boy doesn’t want to go to the prom with a girl, for example? What if a girl gets matched with a boy she has a dubious past with? What if someone gets matched with a person who bullied him or her? What if someone would prefer to go to the prom alone?
Still, Barbara Greenberg, PhD, a clinical psychologist and author of Teenage as a Second Language: A Parent’s Guide to Becoming Bilingual, thinks the practice is great. “I have watched so many teens stress about the thought of whether or not they will get invited to the prom, and others have anxiety about asking someone to the prom,” she tells Yahoo Style. “This idea sounds like so much more fun and so much less anxiety-ridden! Also, more kids get the opportunity to go. Fantastic.”
What do you think? Is the luck-of-the-draw approach to prom dates a genius idea, or should kids be able to freely choose the person they take to the prom?

Brie Larson's Beautiful Red Gown Has a Hidden Message
Tumblr media
Brie Larson hits the Kong: Skull Island premiere. (Photo: Getty Images)
You can add Brie Larson to the list of celebrities who wore red in support of Wednesday’s “A Day Without a Woman” strike, organized by the folks at the Women’s March in conjunction with International Women’s Day. Women across the country sported red in solidarity of the strike, in which not everyone could actively participate.
The Kong: Skull Island star took a turn at the film’s premiere in Hollywood Wednesday evening in a dress perfect for the day. For the occasion, stylist Cristina Ehrlich outfitted Larson in a red Oscar de la Renta dress with a crisscross neckline and a pencil silhouette that stopped just above her ankles. Black pointed toe ankle strap pumps and a bun with a dramatic side-swept wave completed her look.
Ehrlich posted a close-up of the dress’s material to Instagram, noting that there was “no better day” to wear it.
No better day ❤️❤️❤️#CEloves #womensday #sneakpeek
A post shared by Cristina Ehrlich (@cristinaehrlich) on Mar 8, 2017 at 4:02pm PST
Larson has been outspoken on women’s issues and recently made headlines when she opted not to clap for Casey Affleck, who is the subject of sexual harassment allegations, when she presented him with his Oscar for Best Actor. Larson was similarly unimpressed weeks before at the Golden Globes, when she announced Affleck’s win for Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama. It came as little surprise that she would be disappointed — she starred in a movie about sexual assault and works as an advocate for survivors. So Larson’s show of support for “A Day Without a Woman” is perfectly on brand for her.

Scarlett Johansson’s Latest Look Has a Split Personality
Tumblr media
Scarlett Johansson attends the world premiere of Ghost in the Shell in Tokyo. (Photo: Getty Images)
Scarlett Johansson is in the thick of promoting her new film, Ghost in the Shell, and on Thursday night, she turned out to the movie’s premiere in Tokyo wearing a bit of a perplexing Balmain jumpsuit.
The teal piece, from the French label’s Pre-Fall 2017 offering, is more of a cross between a jumpsuit and a robe, thanks to the long-sleeved, draped satiny panel the piece boasts. The look was originally shown with a waist-cinching belt, but Johansson opted against one for her turn on the red carpet.
Of course, Johansson looked gorgeous, but her outfit seemed like it couldn’t decide whether it wanted to curl up in bed with some Netflix and a sleeping mask — or shake its hair out, hit the disco, and slay the dance floor. Perhaps with this ensemble, Johansson was signaling that she is a girl who can do both.
What do you think of Johansson’s outfit?

Nubian Skin’s New Footwear Collection Includes a New Shade of Nude
Tumblr media
A look at Nubian Skin’s new range of high heels. (Photo: Nubian Skin)
We’re going through a nude revolution in fashion. It’s thanks to the emergence of brands offering wares in a range of colors that go beyond the fashion industry’s narrow definition of “nude” — which left out anyone that was lighter or darker than that peachy shade (you know the one).
U.K.-based lingerie brand Nubian Skin is one of the labels that has been celebrated for offering different shades of nude. The brand Ade Hassan built caters to women of color, offering nudes in shades from tan (Café au Lait) to deep, rich dark brown (Berry). Beyoncé has already given the label her blessing, choosing to wear its underwear for her “Formation” tour last year.
Now Nubian Skin joins brands like Christian Louboutin and Kahmune in the nude shoe market. By launching its first footwear line, on Tuesday, it helps expand the offerings with its pointed-toe heels ($130) and ballet flats ($99) in four shades of nude, both with leather uppers, available in U.S. sizes 5 to 11.5.
We asked Hassan for the lowdown on her brand’s latest.
Yahoo Style: What made you guys decide to delve into footwear? Ade Hassan: It’s been a thought for a while now. Our mission has always been redefining nude, so we’ve always noticed areas of fashion that weren’t particularly diverse with “nude.” As a fashion brand, it is always important to innovate, and shoes seemed like the perfect next step.
You’ve launched a new shade of nude. Can you tell us a little bit about that and how you arrived at the particular color? Did you do a test on real women? We have indeed, and we’re really excited about it! We’ve met a lot of women at shows and pop-ups who have asked if we had any lighter shades, which we unfortunately didn’t at the time. We have always said we would add a color if the demand was there, and we feel it is, so we’ve added the color Champagne to our shoe collection to see how it goes.
What about designing nude-hued footwear might other brands sometimes get wrong? And how did you try to remedy that with this line? I’m not sure anyone has got anything wrong. We wanted to create an extension of our current collection. Our customers are incredibly vocal, and we feel as though we’ve really gotten to know them over the past few years. We’ve created the collection because we feel there’s a need, and we really hope it’s something they’ll love.
Were there any difficulties in perfecting the shades? What did you have to take into consideration when you were making them? Initially, with the lingerie, yes — we had to actually create the colors and custom-dye them, which took a long time. The shoes were a little easier, as we were matching leathers to colors that we had already created with the initial collection.
There have been a few footwear brands that have tried to create “nudes for all” or “nudes for darker women.” What sets yours apart? Back in 2014 we brought a truly innovative product to the market, which was much needed — not just as a fashion necessity, but also on a social level. Within the lingerie industry, the scope for innovation is a bit limited, and we managed to do something that had an impact beyond itself. Redefining “nude” and making the term more inclusive meant our campaign went viral, and has had an influence — not just in terms of copycats (from smaller to well-known brands), but also with other parts of the industry realizing the need to be more inclusive.
Are there any plans for even more shades? We’re always listening, so we’ll see!
