..and You shall have an appule
And we are into Winter now. Temps are still great ; hovering between upper twenties and even touching 40F every so often. We get snow, snow melts. We get rain….well, I don’t have to shovel rain so yippie. So far, bad weather is holding off.. the longer , the better..so long as winter doesn’t actually wait till spring.. that would suck. Yesterday and today, the pressure is enough that instead of…

After the tinsel drops
Another Christmas has come and gone with the beginning of a new year looming just ahead. But, that’s for another day. We did, in fact, get snow on Christmas….. Ma; my better half, and I were out in the covered porch when the rain mixed in some snow…and we watched as it went back to rain… but those eight snow flakes were awesome… Ma loves to have snow around for the holidays… I’m fine with that…

Happy Yule. We are just starting Yule off, with Christmas coming in fast.. Yes, they are different… Pagan vs Christian..in a nut shell, however, … ask anyone that knows me… especially from the last thirty some years, I am well known as being “Jolly”.. Here , we celebrate the Season without the religious package.. or for that matter, any packages.. The front Room tree with Ma’s hand made…

The pitty patter of....
Welcome back to Zen Mountain.. Another week has come and gone , bringing some pleasant changes, at least for the now.. For the last couple weeks now, our resident winter cloud has been a bit of a pill… relatively speaking. Turkey Day, we knew we had the swap in our winds changing, as it does every couple weeks , at the least…We knew our cloud was moving back home for the Season. Like an old…

Flippin' the Bird
I hope everyone had a nice Turkey Day. I know not everyone celebrates the day the same. I can remember fondly ; spending the day at the parent’s place, of course, as kids but also as we got older: Things really did start changing as us kids got our own places and we started moving the holidays around between the three homes.. my sister had Turkey Day, just not at all the same as at the family…

In the Clouds
We have been very fortunate to have our rainy season continuing with gusto after a fairly dry summer. After having one decent rain between the end of April and the end of October, having rain every day is glorious for us. We didn’t put out our gauge this year…oops.. But, we haven’t gotten rain like this for years. I don’t melt so I don’t mind walking in the rain……. * chuckle* So when we are…

Getting Frosty and " when are you putting up more music?"
Temps are slowly dropping up here with w decline every few days. I guess you can’t have a warm Fall forever…. Thursday, Ma; my better half, and I had to make a run to pick up my computer from the comp doc. We took a little scenic drive heading there and a long run after we picked it up. It was fun to travel out into the other hills, seeing orchards and wheat fields and so on. The only animals we…

Of fur and feather; part one
Fall is very warm for us this year, letting us enjoy more time with the Zen kids before temps send them off into the valleys below. We have been lucky enough this year to be above freezing through all of October and so far in November. As often as not, we have snow on the ground by now, so we’ll take this as long as we can have it. Rains have been finally coming through so we don’t see AS many…

Changing of the Season, let it rain
Fall nestled in, our short rainy season is finally here. We don’t get a lot of rain up here. Even a short seven miles away to the west there is more rain than what we get… for all that, you can see the difference much closer than that. “Gotham” ,our town at the foot of Zen, get’s even less. A few years back, the electric company came up to run underground cables over meadows and fields,…

Back in the saddle again
The Full Story of Ma; my better half, and The journey of Freyja and the Shetland Stars Shawl below With Fall making its attempt still to dig in, Zen is still fairly dry and warm with November staring us in the face. “Where has the time gone?” One might ask…well… ok, if anyone actually thought about the goings on up here, but, as life is busy for everyone, I imagine I am one of a select few…

Fall-ing through the Zen gardens
Yup; Fall has settled into the Zen Homestead like a sheet of ice. A chill climate change up here slapped us literally over night. I went from AC to woodstove, once again in hours. This time however it feels more like Fall than the pretend Fall days we have kept getting over the last few weeks. Harvests and Canning Ma’s gardens went from a large bowl of paste tomatoes bigger than my fist each…

Would you like Catch-up on that?
Well, I managed to miss a couple Sunday Posts again…The first, our first campers in quite a while were up visiting. The second; well, the Raging Skull finally took me down again… So, back to catching up… The Campers of Zen Normally, The Zen Mountain Homestead’s visitors sport fur or feathers, several enough with scales. This last holiday weekend, we had a few of the bipedal variety . Three of…

Storm chased
Another week has come and gone with Fall at the far edge of the high-beams. We literally just closed the woodstove down for the season some eight weeks ago and I am looking at having to fill the wood room here very soon. Before we know it, we’ll be grabbing a jacket as we head out the door….oh wait.. Ma; my better half is already doing that almost as often as not. Yup, Ma is back home after her…

Some like it Hot
Well, this week, not even going to try to catch ya up rom the Winter/ Spring.. I have a bunch of things I am trying to get done before Ma; my better half makes it home from her vaca. I am not one of those sun worshipping people… I am a 72-75 partly cloudy summer days kinda guy. There never really seems to be a ” Norm ” up here on highs or lows.. Heck, the basic norm up here is; it is usually…

When the Heat is On part 3-B
Who knew it would take so long to attempt to catch up on Zen’s happenings. I still have things to cover from early Spring and we are diving towards Fall. There are always more ” kids” things… I have barely touched on the gardens. Ma’s spinning and knitting, let alone what I have messed about with on music crap.. my other hobbies I tend to not write about as they seem to end up as a blip on one…
