The Zelda Movie Fancast Project Day 7: Skyward Sword

For the last day of the Zelda movie fancast project, we have Skyward Sword, the beginning of it all. Realistically, I could see the events of this game hinted at in the first movie, either at the beginning of the movie or from Link hearing about it from someone.

Fi herself could also play a role in the first movie or there will be hints of her presence. That is just speculation though. We can only imagine.

With that, my compilation of people's fancasts for the Zelda movie has concluded. At this point in time we're still in uncharted waters and know nothing of this movie's plot, character inclusions, or official cast. There are so many possibilities and they're very exciting to think about.

I did this long project so that when the actual cast is announced, whenever that may be, we can look back on these to see which people's choices ended up happening or didn't happen at all. Even if this Zelda movie isn't necessarily what some people wanted, I still think it is an exciting time by virtue of a Zelda movie actually happening.

I look forward to the day the curtain is pulled back on the movie. It will be a very interesting and entertaining day.

Some Ganondorf Fancastings for the games. (Because Nintendo will save Keith David for a movie 💀💀💀)

Matthew Mercer (Young Ganondorf, Smash Bros) - Even though he’s currently the official dub Ganon voice, I think his voice is unfitting for old man, post OOT, post BOTW Ganondorf, but he surprisingly fits better for the younger version of this bastard. 

Jamieson Price (OOT Timeskip, Wind Waker) - Jamieson Price works a LOT better for an older Ganondorf. I mainly used his voice lines during his time as Emperor Rudolf and Nemesis from Fire Emblem, but both fit well with how I imagine Ganondorf to sound like in the final act of OOT and in Wind Waker.

Brook Chalmers (Twilight Princess, Smash Bros) - Listen to Chalmers Ashnard voice and tell me that he wouldn’t make a great Twilight Princess Ganondorf.

I saw someone say that Tom Holland's not androgynous enough to play Link, and I deeply agree and truly think that androgyny should be a key factor the casting directors look for

They’ve just announced a live action Zelda film directed by the maze runners Wes Ball!!! I am so excited for this!! I’ve seen a lot of fan casts and I want to add my own to the mix-

Thomas Brodie Sangster (is possible because Wes balls directing and they worked together on maze runner)

Zelda-

Millie Bobby Brown and/or dove Cameron. I feel like they both look the part but I’ve not see enough of what doves I’m to know if she would fit acting wise, she definitely has the looks.

I looove fancasts made by kids whose only frame of reference for celebrities is Disney Channel actors. When I was in 4th grade I'd often fantasize about who I'd cast in a hypothetical Super Smash Bros movie and I was dead set on Zelda being played by Miley Cyrus.

Alright so I know people will have mixed (mostly negative) feelings about this, but with the recent success of the Mario movie... I think they should make a Zelda movie.

That said, I think it should be an animated musical based heavily on Ocarina of Time. The game has a strong musical motif, not just with the ocarina itself but with Zelda/Sheik's harp, Ganondorf's organ, the actual thematic ways that the music ties the characters and their relationships.

Anyway this is mostly an excuse for me to fancast a Zelda musical. So far, I'm envisioning Patrick Page as Ganondorf, Estelle as Impa, Zach Callison as Skull Kid and, hear me out, Andrew Garfield as Adult Link. I think him as child Link would sound odd but as adult Link? I think he could bring a good energy, he can definitely sing, I've heard the music from Tick Tick Boom.

Chapter 9, Who Remembers a God “Lucas?!” Ari exclaimed. “What are you doing here?” Lucas turned around and brightened at the sight of the ranger. He was doubly pleased to see that they were completely unharmed, and their blue uniform looked no worse for wear. “I came to offer my assistance, if it would be welcome. I can guide you to the place where I woke up.” Ari gaped at him. “I… Okay? But how are you even here, seriously?” They held out their hands. “Weren’t you staying in town?” They gestured outside the cavern.  “I am, yes, but it was no trouble for me to follow your footsteps,” Lucas said. “Since you were so far ahead of me, I teleported myself to close the distance and accidentally overshot my destination. That is why I am here.” ��You teleported yourself?” Ari stared at him for another moment before they shook their head and pushed their fingers through their bangs. Their lips pressed tightly together. Eventually, they sighed through their nose. “Well, okay.” They let their hand fall and shrugged. “You’re here now, so… All right. Please lead the way.” Lucas smiled, glad to have their approval, though he thought it was a bit disappointing that they didn’t seem entirely pleased to have him here. He wondered if he made a mistake. Oh well. Too late to turn back now. 

🎬 Okay, so I know my main WIP right now is Who Remembers a God, but honestly? If I had to pick one fic, I’d want to see Not My Namesake turned into a multi-season anime. I’m still very proud of how it turned out, and with how long it is, I don’t think it can be easily condensed into a single movie. I have no idea which animation studio I’d want to tackle it (mostly bc I don’t really follow who does what these days), nor do I have any particular voice actors in mind (I don’t follow celebrities at all). That said, I would want to have an actual trans boy voicing Zelda, and I think I’d also like to use new talent for Gan, rather than any established VAs. Ghirahim would naturally keep his VA from the game, if possible. The hard part of this theoretical anime would actually be Link speaking sign language, I think, since that is a lot of detailed motion to animate. It’d also require subtitles, except for the rare moments when he does speak (in which case there’d be double subtitles for folks who turn those on). Certainly not an impossible feat, but definitely not something I've seen happen too often.
