A newly pregnant housewife finds herself increasingly compelled to consume dangerous objects. As her husband and his family tighten their control over her life, she must confront the dark secret behind her new obsession.

The change in direction in the second half was unexpected. And accepting Hunter's change in character, from being mainly passive to suddenly taking the initiative, takes a bit of a leap of faith. But given where the story is ultimately headed, it is well worth making that leap. In the end, the movie has a very satisfying story arc.

What she's doing makes you wince. But the truly scary people are her husband and the inlaws.

Visually accomplished. And a very memorable performance by Haley Bennett.
