#ZZ Gundam Ver. Ka

HGUC 1/144 A.E.U.G. Prototype Transformable Mobile Suit MSZ-010 "𝛧𝛧 Gundam"

The last member of the AEUG Gundam Team is finally in my collection!! I've been debating whether or not to get the HGUC 𝛧𝛧 for quite some time, due to the age and size of the kit, but in the end I decided it would be a really neat addition.

The 𝛧𝛧 is unfortunately a little old, being from 2010, and so suffers from a lot of the flaws of that era including a really high usage of polycaps and an overall lack of poseability and articulation. I was really disappointed as it made it almost impossible to achieve the classic ZZ opening: transformation pose.

However, the kit's colour separation is excellent, with black stickers for the inside of all the yellow vents (pieces which I half expected to require painting on). The only part that required colour correcting (apart from the inside of the booster nozzles) were the backpack missiles, which i masked with putty and painted grey with my airbrush.

Unfortunately, while building this kit, i spilled plastic cement on it (which I had been using to close up some of the seam gaps these older models suffer from).

I was afraid this would permanently fuse parts together and thus prevent me parts-forming it into the spaceship mode, however, luckily, I was able to pull everything apart in time to rescue it.

The 𝛧𝛧 can parts form into the separate Core Top and Core Base sections, the latter of which controlled with a Core Fighter not dissimilar to other 1/144 core fighter models.

The two core sections combine into the G-Fortress, which joins the torso and arms to the waist and legs, allowing you to remove and rearrange parts to reveal the Gundam 𝛧𝛧.

A neat part of this kit is the oversized Beam Saber, which necessitates a custom moulded hand that clips into it, and comes with matching oversized beam effect parts.

Unfortunately, the hand parts available are significantly lacking. There's only a single closed left fist, the beam saber/open right hand, and a pistol grip right hand. There's no right closed fist like you'd usually get with older kits like this. This isn't a major issue, as admittedly my spare hands often just end up in my optional parts bin, but it would've been a nice option for posing and photography.

Overall I'm really glad to add the ZZ to the rest of the team, and it fits in great with my Hyaku-Shiki, Mk-II, and Zeta. Maybe spring for the Ver. Ka. if you're interested in a ZZ kit though - I know I'm definitely planning on it.

Update with the ZZ Gundam Ver Ka!

The main body is finished! I’m still not entirely sure about the decals. If I do use them, it will be very few. I still need to build the weapons it comes with, and the action base it’ll go on after that, so I’m not done yet.

Finalmente dopo circa 6 mesi di lavoro (e madonne volanti) ho finito Lo ZZ Gundam Vers Ka. Certo come tutti i gundam posabilità, è quel che è, ma questo appena gli prendo la teca, gli trovo una posizione d' impatto e lo incollo , almeno resta sempre in quella posizione e amen.

And High Grade Dagger L built!

Really fun kit, lots of cool poses, good looking weapons, and some pretty good articulation too. Overall a very sleek, simple, and nice design!

It’s also my first kit for Gundam SEED as a whole. Also a SEED Destiny kit and not SEED proper, so I am technically breaking my sorta weak rule on not buying kits from shows I haven’t started yet. I am planning on watching Destiny right after though, so I’m not too bothered by that. I have less of an excuse when it comes to the Zaku Warrior kit I also bought, but in my defense… both of these were cheap.

I also am just not a huge fan of a lot of SEED designs I find. Very bright colors that I’m just eh on. I don’t dislike any of them though so there’s that. I do find I like the designs of the Providence and the Force Impulse Gundams though, but I haven’t gotten to those in the show yet.

But continuing with the grunt theme of the Zaku and the Dagger, my first original SEED kit will probably be either the M1 Astray or the GINN. I thought it would’ve been from the Astray manga cause it’s called Astray, but apparently I was wrong about that.

My next kit to build will be one of the two 1/100s I have, so I’ll leave that up to a poll between the Full Mechanics Gundam Aerial and the Master Grade Ver Ka ZZ Gundam. Either one is fine by me, but I understand one is a lot more complicated than the other.

Since the ver ka of the Gundam ZZ came out recently I thought I’d look back at the original Master Grade from 1999. Just to get it out of the way this kit has not aged well. The articulation takes a backseat to the rather awkward transformation. Now this doesn’t mean all old Master Grades are terrible some are actually quite impressive and can compete against some modern kits of today. Sadly this kit cant even compete with the High Grade from 2010. Eventually I will see what the Ver. Ka has to offer but till then I can only recommend this to extreme enthusiasts of Gundam ZZ or those who somehow managed to read this review from the year 1999.
