oh this is going to be such a rant-

thank you for the compliment and for the question!! I do love talking about my funky ideas, I don’t wanna spoil the plot in case I do eventually write it all out as a fanfic, but I decided to do an almost full summary because even if I end up writing and finishing it as a fic, it’s going to take a long time until then lol and you all deserve to know what the story is about <3

I believe the most important thing to note for my next gen AU is that the third movie played out in a different way, a few small changes here and there with the biggest and most important one being that the dragons never left the humans. They do live on New Berk though, after og Berk was run over and destroyed in a big battle by the hunters + Grimmel.

All the kids have different importance and roles in the story, I try to give all of them at least a bit of character development regardless of how much impact they have on the main plot (but me being one person and them being so many characters I do kinda struggle with that, I am trying my best tho).

If I’m honest, the focus is mostly on the ones ages 18 to 21 (Berkian next gen) and, who would have guessed, Rune. Nuffink does have his own story that includes the younger generation, but it’s not the main focus that I will be describing here.

They are the new A-Team now with Bjorn being the leader as the eldest, while Rune is on Berserker island ignoring his responsibilities as the heir. Funnily enough, it’s a big part of his early character to be an irresponsible and maybe even slightly selfish little shit lol. Heather is actually the one who finally talks to Dagur and Mala about it and they decide to make the apprenticeship program that Dagur had faked for Gustav in RTTE an actual thing and contact Hiccup, so at the start of the year, shortly after Snoggletog, Rune arrives in Berk with his dragon Stormsplitter to stay there for the rest of the year, take or give a few weeks. There, the others are a bit distant from him at first since he is new and from a whole different tribe and most of them have never actually talked to him.

But, with time, they all grow closer, eventually become friends as they take on missions to take down a new rising of dragon hunters. Many missions they are on are just scouting and staking out their patterns, these lead them to the conclusion that these hunters are looking for something. Little do they know that after Grimmel’s demise, some old notes of his were found by scavengers and sold to a group of uprising hunters, containing information about the dragons he supposedly hunted to extinction.

A lot of things happen over the course of the year Rune stays on Berk, some small like the bonding between him and his newfound friends, some big like Thawfest or Dragon Racing. Some maybe even including the ship that I lovingly call Zephune (Zephyr and Rune) because, after all, these two have a lot of work to do that eventually leads to them crushing on each other <3

As the end of the year approaches however, Zephyr and Rune are sent on one last mission together to stake out whatever the hunters could be searching for. A snowstorm throws them off course as they land on an unfamiliar and seemingly deserted island far away from New Berk. They have to get back somehow now, but decide to let their dragons rest up for the journey and stay the night. A night in which they meet the occupants of this strange new island… :)

I’m not gonna spoil the ending, but I have a feeling that looking at the hints in this, my art and the ocs that I have, it’s fairly obvious what lives on this island LOL

Next to this main plot, there’s a bunch of character development of course, not just in Rune. It’s just that he was the first one I came up with, the one I see myself the most in and, honestly, he’s just kinda my favorite lmao, so yeah, there is a LOT of focus on him.

I hope this didn’t get too long and I hope everything I wrote here makes sense when you read it, I’m always open to questions like this!! I love nattering about my silly little guys and all their dragons <33
