Bocchi the Rock piece inspired by the cover album of Yura Yura Teikoku's NA.MA.SHI.BI.RE.NA.MA.ME.MA.I! A very self-indulgent drawing... Sorry!

Yura Yura Teikoku :: Hollow Me
Prior to founding Zelone Records and becoming the emperor of mellow groove, Shintaro Sakamoto fronted Yura Yura Teikoku. A scrappy psych trio with humble origins in the Tokyo’s DIY underground, the band cut a unique trail guided by an eclecticism that pushed their sound ever further to new heights. Over two decades, 10 studio albums, a live record, and a slew of EP’s, the band eventually saw crossover success in Japan, signing to a major label and garnering a cult following abroad. However, as everything seemed to fall in place for in place for Yura Yura Teikoku, the band dissolved amicably in 2010, a decision rendering 2007’s masterful Hollow Me their de-facto swan song.

These are all songs they play at work btw but like it was like obv a v y2k inspired movement but was sposed to be getting the same reaction punk did in the 70s and sposed to be similar in it was supposed to be "non musicians" making it doing the kinda like electric guitar line u hear on tht sugar ray song likr stroke type stuff i guess but also like a v entirely pop version of rock like it was like all sposed to be v cute n catchy n stuff like the phrase in my vision was like if the beatles rly won and all rock music was first foremost pop but ya stuff like tht n that satie line in the janet jackson song it was supposed to be interesting cause ppl were scared SCARED of it for some reason cause it had weird implications like unlike punk which is a rougher music this was all these no musicians making stuff that sounded like v clean radio friendly pop so it had implications but there was also this implication that they were making it mindlessly like lyricallt too it was coming out of them insincerely like they were kinda just repeating all the themes n messages u hear from radio pop n that it gave the whole thing this warhol pop art type coating. Ultimately basically like a cleaner purposefully radio friendly sounding music that was like a jonathan richman beat happening shonen knife type thang but kinda being pumped out by the masses as their aesthetic like a weird tables turned where the masses were producing this endless stream of pop candy like where its good music but seemed to imply something idk very becoming!
#new personality trait added to my brain along w/ the recurring dream of a album tht sounds like silver jews mixed w/ yura yura teikoku#Youtube

Hello!
Do you have any favorite Japanese music? (or games bgm......)
Sorry, I'm using a translator so my text may be strange...( ; ; )
Yes I do ^_^ I am actually very well versed in a lot of Japanese music (mostly pre-2000s stuff though)! The folk-rock movement from the late 60s in particular, I really love. I have a special interest in the group of musicians who formed Happy End (in 1969), and all of their future collaborations & collaborators... (most notably Yellow Magic Orchestra). Also from Happy End, I love everything Haruomi Hosono has done- his solo work is so so so good. I could talk about his work FOREVER I love it, and every collaboration or band he's been in. He really is a musical pioneer & a genius... I love this live performance from him so much. I could talk about Hosono's work for hours!!!!!!! I love all of the genres he has explored. I even put Happy End's Kazemachi Roman album cover in Be Kind, My Neighbor...
I also really really like Shintaro Sakamoto's work (& his work in Yura Yura Teikoku), it has a similar vibe as the previous work I mentioned, but more psychedelic.
I also LOVE the group TAMA. They are so unforgettably unique, I absolutely love everything about them. I wish if my art style were to be translated into sound, for it to sound like them...
Some other Japanese music I love: -Tatsuro Yamashita -Masayoshi Takanaka -HOFF DYLAN -Denki Groove -Eiichi Ohtaki -QUEEN BEE (very contemporary compared to everything else I listed lol)
I COULD KEEP GOING... but I don't want this to be a 40-foot long post hahaha. Thank you for asking, it's fun to gush about stuff I love :) EDIT: I FORGOT TO MENTION GEZAN. KLUE is one of my favorite albums of all time it will make you shit your pants

Genuinely a pretty fire mixtape of classic 90s/2000s J-Rock. I highly recommend giving all of these bands a listen alongside togetoge's songs. Yura Yura Teikoku is quickly rising as one of my favorite bands and I've been thinking about that Gingnagboyz song nonstop for the last few weeks...
#I'm sure we've missed a few reference to other bands in the previous episodes so I might update this with those later if anyone finds them.#girls band cry#j rock
