Hi! I'd like to suggest an alternative reasoning for Dragonrulershipping. Rook may not be the only one using dragon type in Sevens, but he has special emotional attachment to dragons since his deck is all about them + he makes dragon plushies. Same with Gakuto and his attachment to his Rulers (Ranze even mocked him for using and making his deck revolve around them).

If having a reliable deck is so uncommon in the anime, to the point that having one is considered an incredible status symbol, then why do most people even consider Dueling as an option to settle stuff?

There’s no guarantee outside of cheating that their deck will even function regardless of skill and Duels in the anime tend to be incredibly time consuming even on the low end of power. Deciding the outcome via coin flip would probably give better odds AND be more time efficient.

Because, you Duel.

That's about the end of it. Their Decks function well enough, it's just most times, they're playing highlander Decks because their world makes getting triples of Rare Cards (what is and isn't a Rare Card isn't explicitly explained. Time Wizard and Red-Eyes are, but Panther Warrior, a vanilla with 2000 ATK in the manga isn't)

DM, they're professional players. And the plot is tournaments.

GX, they go to a school to Duel.

5D's, Yusei gets into professional Yu-Gi-Oh! tournaments and it's his one passtime. He's poor. He can only afford random cards and all else he's got is work or crime.

ZEXAL, Yuma really likes it and the Numbers are cards.

ARC-V, they live in a society(s) where you Duel.

VRAINS, Yusaku likes Dueling well enough and forces everyone to collect Ai using it, setting the entire show on his terms because his Dueling never loses.

SEVENS, Elementary Schoolers. They're getting down in the schoolyard.

GO RUSH!!, because Yudias wants to use Rush Duel as a tool to force a non-violent conflict while also talking with his enemy. A coin toss won't work.

Remember, it's like this because Mr. Takahashi was simulating the feel of being a Magic the Gathering player in 1990s Japan.

Do you think there will ever be a yugioh final boss whose fearsomeness rests solely on having a frustratingly consistent and economic strategy rather than having a hard to beat boss monster?

I mean.

There's been a few cases of this.

Yami Bakura is the final boss in Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters, and his threat was a frustratingly consistent and economic Stall Lockdown Deck Destruction Strategy.

While tied to The Winged Dragon of Ra (which is a hard to beat boss monster), Yami Marik's Deck was centered around a frustratingly consistent recycling of The Winged Dragon of Ra and Monster Reborn to wear down his opponent's resources, body and soul.

Darkness, while he did end on big stompy monsters, the vast bulk of his threat was through a consistent and economic control strategy that Judai had difficulty punching through.

Z-ONE, until he got to Sephylon, which was a last gasp, relied basically entirely on the Timelords being a highly consistent and economic strategy that he dependably summoned, using their offensive-defensive stall-burn strategy to wear down Yusei's resources.

Otes was literally a frustratingly consistent DARK Spellcaster Deck that used its resource churning to blow out Yuga, that just happened to end on a big stompy Fusion as a wincon.

Ai used a super consistent and economic combo Deck, that just had a big Link-6 Win Con.

Like the two anime guys who do fit your description are Don Thousand (who spat out big stompy bosses... on top of the Numeron Network being a devastatingly efficient control card) and Supreme King Z-ARC, who is pretty much playing the Create-A-Cards from a Deviant Art Tween's imagination.

For the Mangas...

I would like to be generous to Tenma Yako, whose Deck is meant to effectively summon 3 Tribute Boss Monsters, though I do understand if Barbaros Ur and The Wicked Avatar do feel like Unga Bunga.

Tragoedia never uses itself, but its Fiend-Zombie Deck was fairly a consistent combo Deck meant to support The Supremacy Sun in a reasonable Timmy-Johnny style of aggro combo play.

Rex Godwin absolutely falls into this trap for the 5D's manga.

E'rah was mostly relying on a control-combo Deck, but I do get Dystopia might urk you, and a lot of her control combo was kinda just Deviant Art-y.

I mean, Eve did efficiently summon three powerful ace monsters in one turn with her Not Behelets, but there is Genesis Omega Dragon.

We're unlikely to escape the concept of the big finisher, because it's good television and comic story telling to end in a big stompy guy who serves as a visual metaphor representing the villain's thesis and the last emotional, physical and literal wall the hero has to climb over.
