about ryou being canonically gay, he's about as close as you can explicitly get in yu-gi-oh!! arguably his most consistent character trait across the franchise is how much attention he gets from girls, and how much he does not reciprocate it (and how jealous this makes the other boys)

the other (main) male characters are standard anime-levels of horny—there's subplots about them competing over girls, being flustered and drooly over flirty women, lending each other porn, misc. standard awkward straight teenage boy stuff, while ryou just... never does any of that??

his canon description even goes "He's so handsome that, having barely arrived at Domino High, all the girls flock him. The problem is that he prefers games to girls by far."

it didn't quite make it into the main Duel Monsters anime, but it's pretty recurring in the manga, the TOEI "season zero" anime, the canon 2016 movie, etc. ryou never shows interest in any boys either, so i like to read him as aroace, but it's definitely vague.
