The story takes place after the four master and apprentices went to the west to learn scriptures. At this time, Sun Wukong (played by Yu Shang) has been named as the Buddha of Fighting and Conquering Buddha, and the golden cudgel was returned to its original owner. Hearing that the thousand-year seal on the Demon Locking Tower was broken and demons were rampant, Sun Wukong came forward to subdue the demons and eliminate them. However, in the process, Sun Wukong discovered that the Heavenly Court actually had the act of referring to human beings as monsters and imprisoning them. Behind this, the sanctimonious Daoist Qingfeng manipulated everything. Wukong got acquainted with the human girl Yuexian (played by Zhang Xueyan) and the little monster Biliu (played by Li Honglei) who were slandered as demons, and they protected them on their journey to the west again, hoping to find Guanyin Bodhisattva and find out. When the court learned that Sun Wukong led the monsters in the monster lock tower to escape, they sent heavenly soldiers and generals to block their way. In the face of powerful pursuers, can Monkey King and his party reach their destination smoothly?

Just wanted to fact check if you or any of your followers happened to know the answer! So while it has been confirmed that GG and DD had each other added on Weibo prior to filming, is there any confirmation that DD had added any other X Nine members added at the same time? Or was it only XZ? I think that would be very telling 👀
Hi, Anon, there’s a lot of info here so I’ve put it under a cut.
First of all, are you talking about Weibo or Wechat? There are many rumors about GG and DD becoming connected on WeChat right after the XNINE DDU episode in 2017 - long before filming. I wrote about that a while back.
In terms of Weibo, he started following GG in April 2018, around the same time he began following other CQL actors at the beginning of filming. He does follow one other XNINE member, Yan Xujia, but as far as I can tell he didn’t start following him until 2019.
But you did make me curious to see who all DD follows on Weibo. Complete list follows.
DISCLAIMER: this is a very rough list. I’ve pulled together little tidbits of information about each person and their connection to DD, and anything I personally remember about some of them, but it’s just a casual list and not by any means a definitive reference for all these relationships. If anyone has additional information that might help clarify the relationships on this list, let me know.

Updates about Bai Yu’s projects (Aug 20th, 2022)
Thank You, Doctor with Yang Mi finally got its airing licence and its episodes have changed from 48 to 40 (Initially, the drama was set to have 40 episodes and then back in the 2020 it was changed to be 48 and now back to 40). Since the drama is set to be aired on Jiangsu TV and Zhejiang TV (and Tencent, iQiyi, Youku and YoYo channel on Youtube), it'll air when the schedule of these two TV channels coincide, which according to my own calculation should be October (I could be wrong).
Take Us Home with Ma Yili (iQiyi, TV channel(s) unkown) is rumored to be aired either at the end of this year or as the drama that starts the next year.
West Out of the Yumen with Ni Ni (Tencent web drama, current literal translation, English title may be changed) has wrapped up its filming on its Dunhuang location on Aug 7th. It still needs to film the rest of the drama in Beijing and will wrap up all at the end of this month.
Bai Yu is rumored to be star in another realistic-theme drama Fu Bei De Qi Zhi (literal translation: Flag of My Father's Generation). The protagonist is a guy born and raised in the nothern forest of China who was determined to get out and work in the city, but after working for a while in the city of Guangzhou, he changed his idea and returned to the countryside. If said rumor is true, those who wish Bai Yu be in a romcom will be disappointed. The man really likes realistic-theme works😜 The project looks to have a good team, it features Liu Mingli (Doctor Qin) and Yang Xia (The Untamed) as producers, Zhao Dongling as scripwriter (Ordinary Greatness, The Story of Xingfu) and Kang Honglei as director (Soldiers Sortie, My Chief and My Regiment).
The Truth (Tecent variety show) ended its run as one of the top variety shows and the No. 1 new variety show according to stastics, so it'll most likely to have a 2nd season (for the next year). Though no idea if all 6 regular guests will participate (which is the hope of the audiences).

Certain dramas do very well in summer slot, and certain don't . Is there a theory to it? For instance some modern dramas like Crime Crackdown and You're my Glory did great last year, and this year seems its Costumes. Wish ygy aired as well in this slot
Great question!
Well summer is a time when schools and universities are off, and that period is around end of June/ beginning July to end of August. At this time, costume dramas esp xianxias are very popular (if done well...) coz they are catered towards the younger population (you'll often see older drama viewers being bored with seeing content from this particular genre). Also side by side, any costume dramas such wuxias and historicals are also popular, especially if they feature traffic idols. The three examples are the dramas with a good amount of heat this summer, "Love Like the Galaxy (Zhao Lusi / Wu Lei)" on Tencent, "Immortal Samsara" (YangZi/ChengYi) on Youku and now "Love between Fairy and Devil (Esther Yu/Dylan Wang) on Iqiyi.
Right now in 2022 summer, these three web only dramas have the highest broadcast heat among the three largest web playforms, and rankings sort of jumps between each other.
(Not counting "A Dream if Splendour" as it was pre summer and ended before July)
Romcom with young/traffic idols are also a huge hit in the summer, examples would be like you said "You're my Glory" with Dilireba/YangYang from last year and in 2019 would be "Go Go Squid" with YangZi/LiXian.
Crime Crackdown last year was aired in Dragon TV, BTV, CCTV and Tencent Video. It aired during the month of August last year, and was starred by Sun Honglei who is a very respected veteran in the industry and drama is supported by a strong supporting cast as well as supported by govt agencies. So this drama was quite unique in itself.
I wish Yuguyao aired as well but summer is now over. I'm hoping the drama gets promoted well, whenever it airs.

Street Dance of China, Season 4, Episode 12, Part 1
- Just a heads up, there’s going to be salt this episode. Please beware!
- The two videos that make up the final episode are about approximately 7.5 hours long, so I’m going to make two posts. I’ll probably try to allocate 3.75 hours of showtime to each post but we shall see ^^;;
- I am also trying to be more less screencap-happy because my posts keep crashing and freezing because there are too many images lol
- So it looks like among the guests will be Huang Bo, Vanness Wu, Jackson Wang, Fu Longfei, Han Yu, and Wang Chenyi. (BRING HUANG ZITAO BACK YOU COWARDS!!!!!!!! But also I wished Jackson Yee would’ve made a return, I like him :P)
- The opening montage was kinda cool, having each of the captains dance in a different part of Shanghai.
- Oh my god they are literally going for a superhero theme? They were using the MCU music? What is happening?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Why are Han Geng and Yibo dressed so boring and exactly the same OTL They were both wearing suits with vests and hats and it’s like, even if you were just going with a suit and vest and hat, try to differentiate yourself from the other guy wearing a suit and vest and hat please. Have a word with your stylists.
- Yixing performed Feitian with some of the contestants! (Both current and eliminated). It wasn’t the original choreography though, which is fine, because this is a street dance show and they gotta update it with street dance stuff. Not gonna lie, though, I was hoping for a full live performance with the dance crew performing the original dance, but I will take this anyway.
Tumblr media
- Han Geng did have a nice performance that prioritized fun :3
Tumblr media
- OF COURSE Henry broke out the violin and I love him for that. Also his team danced to Can’t Hold Us and I’m like I don’t know how old this song is but it seems very him to choose an old pop song.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Yibo’s performance was literally called “This is old school” lol
Tumblr media
- I think this event was mostly live, based on the fact that music had suddenly started playing very loudly and Henry went ???
Tumblr media
- I thought I was just seeing things, but does Henry look like he has broad shoulders? I think it’s the tassels on his shirt.
Tumblr media
- Closer look at Yixing’s fancy jacket for the day
Tumblr media
- So good news is that there is a lot of skippable stuff in these longass episodes because it is live lol. There’s a lot of “waiting time” (e.g. people walking to their spots or picking numbers) that can be fast forwarded through.
- Special guest Huang Bo did a fun disco-esque dance
Tumblr media
- Yixing was saying that Huang Bo had danced so well that the Dongbei (Northeast) king of dancing was under a lot of pressure. And Huang Bo was like “you mean the Dongbei king of dancing, break dancing champion Sun Honglei??” XD
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Henry said that the last time he’d seen Huang Bo was in the Mushroom house dancing to one dance move only, so I’m guess Huang Bo was on one of the episodes of Back to Field where Henry was a host :3
- Teams’ eliminated members came to say some words of encouragement :3 They were MT-Pop, Xiao Jie, Han Yu, and Momo.
Tumblr media
- Dance montage! Sorry for the blurry cap. I think this was filmed close to the beginning of the show, because Yixing had his two-coloured hair, and also Nelson was in this montage. Anyway, the theme of the dance was that dance is something that is not limited by language.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Gogo Brothers visited Changsha because they heard that it was Yixing’s hometown! :3
Tumblr media
- A surprise guest!
Tumblr media
- Yixing had heavy makeup on so I wondered if he’d rushed over to meet them after filming something   :P
Tumblr media
- This started off a Gogo Brothers performance, then a Gogo Brothers + kids performance, then a Gogo Family performance
Tumblr media
- It seems like a bad idea to keep the towel voting system when you have 164 judges??? It’s a gimmick but like, damn, I wish they’d stop lol.
- Yixing said that he wanted to pass on his own dancing skills to his children, just like Tony Gogo did. Huang Bo was like, you got it wrong, the first step is to have a girlfriend.
- Some fun shots of Rochka on vacation in China.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Rochka got encouraging messages from his family members! :3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- This message was from Rochka’s older brother. He ended his message with acting like he was possessed lol, and the caption says something like “the Ka clan has a tradition of arts/skills,” basically saying that Rochka’s family are all talented :P
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- The next message was from Rochka’s younger brother, and he said that if Rochka didn’t win, it would be his turn next year :P So I guess he’s a dancer too!
Tumblr media
- More brothers uwu Looks like Rochka comes from a big family
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- And messages from dad and mom!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- So cute!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Some more encouraging messages from friends :3
Tumblr media
- Boy got a wardrobe change
Tumblr media
- Rochka’s performance had a somber tone, but it was powerful and hopeful imo. He also included a few of the other contestants on the show, which is fun. I’m also curious as to whether he choreographed most of the dance on his own, or whether he was allowed to contract help.
Tumblr media
- Han Geng introduced Eleven by being like, I’ve known Eleven for eleven years, and tomorrow will be the eleventh month (November), let’s have a happy Eleven day lol.
Tumblr media
- Eleven had a huge performance with lots of supporting dancers. It was very entertaining, though, as expected from a choreographer. Look at the smiley lol.
Tumblr media
- Bouboo’s adventures in China
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Bouboo had a Wakanda themed performance. This is totally different from his usual dance style, so I was pretty surprised. However, I did feel that this choreography did not really give him much opportunity to show off his own dance. A lot of the attention went to the supporting dancers. Bouboo also said that he suffered a neck injury, and that he would require surgery :o
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- One thing I’ve noticed in the performances so far is that they are far more choreography-focused than star-focused. All of these performances had a huge number of supporting dancers, and it really doesn’t make sense to have a lot unless you’re going to use them. So I actually feel that these large scale performances are actually disadvantageous for the dancers themselves if they don’t have a good choreography. Out of the four performances, I personally found Rochka’s and Eleven’s more engaging.
- Okay, I’m not gonna lie, I was really disappointed that Rochka got less than 100 votes? What? His performance was so interesting though? #justiceforrochka
- Also, I was reminded very recently that this is indeed a televised competition show, and some stuff might be rigged. So....I guess I shouldn’t take the voting too seriously OTL
- But also, what really is the criteria here? Because the voters are only asked to vote on whether they like something or not. So the dancers aren’t really limited to any particular theme, except for “just make a good performance.”
- Vanness Wu was one of the guests. For some reason I never really envisioned Vanness as a dancer. I always just remember him as a member of F4 with long hair who just stands around and looks cool X’D
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Vanness said that he and Han Geng look like a couple because they’re both wearing denim jackets. I love some chill old man humour up in this house. Also, for some reason, it never occurred to me that Vanness, a Taiwanese-American, would have a Taiwanese accent. It was kind of charming lol.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Qiao Zhi going for Chinese style again, as he did in his individual audition many episodes ago
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Lol when the lion came out Yixing fell in love
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
- I did think that Qiao Zhi’s dance became a little limited when he became the front legs of the lion, because his arms were totally unusable. I guess it’s good that he left this for the end, but I wasn’t sure if it was a good move to stay in the lion for so long.
Tumblr media
- Qiao Zhi explained that he really liked Chinese style stuff, which is why he keeps coming back to a Chinese theme. He said he liked watching movies such as Huang Feihong/Wong Fei-hung. (He said he liked movies with wudao which usually translates to dance, but Wong Fei-hung movies are all action movies so there’s probably some vocabulary here that I don’t know). He did explain that his performance was influenced by Wong Fei-hung, with the drunken fist (shown through the vats of alcohol), the clothes, the lion dance, etc.
- Ye Yin did some tap dance, but otherwise, this performance was mostly locking as expected. The entire performance was very tight. The supporting dancers were used to keep the focus on Ye Yin, which was good, because my problem in some of the earlier performances was that the background dancers would take away the spotlight from the main contestant. So this was a good performance. But I am going to bring up my grievances about Ye Yin. We know that he is a very tight dancer. He is very precise. But I barely see him do anything other than locking. He stays in his box and he never steps out. I have never seen him try to do any other sort of performance. And all of his solo performances have had a similar feel. In this performance, we got the water on the table, which is something that he had done in an earlier episode. And the song in this performance sounded a little similar to the one he’d used for his solo audition. So I respect him as a dancer, but it bugs me that I barely see anything new from him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- AC and Ibuki went to Disney!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Ibuki’s performance was great! Before I had started the episode I had stumbled upon someone’s tweet saying that her performance was great, so I was expecting something good and she delivered! Her performance was energetic and fun, and it really suited her style of dance. Plus, the focus was mostly kept on her, and the background dancers did really well in keeping tight and in sync but also hyping her up as the star.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
- San’er took a trip home and we saw his mom and his aunt
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- San’er’s performance was alright, I thought the choreography was really entertaining. He included the themes of growing up with the inclusion of the child dancer. I will say, the end of the performance was a bit too cheesy for me. I do get that this was supposed to be a personal performance for him (considering the fact that he called the performance 我 (I/me), about his growth as a dancer. The encouraging line to the kid was a little cheesy to me, but the line about taking care of mom seemed a little forced in there at the last moment.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
- I’m really enjoying Huang Bo as a commentator. He is so thoughtful. He pays close attention to the performances and he’s able to pick things out to speak about. And he’s so precise with his words, and how he compliments the dancers :P
- Pikachu! Homeboy!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
- SO MANY
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- So the three adult dancers were Ding Zeren, Wang Chenyi, and Han Yu
Tumblr media
- Oh look, a group photo
Tumblr media
- Acky-san had a more traditional performance, but it suits him for sure
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Lmao he hugged the kid in the middle of his performance
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Acky-san had a high score, so Rochka, who had the lowest score before, got bumped off. (I’m still gonna be salty about Rochka,  just saying) As for Acky-san’s performance, it was entertaining, but I’m surprised that it would place third among the performances we’ve seen so far.
Tumblr media
- Anyway, I think that means that Rochka doesn’t get to go further :( He gave a very positive message, thanking the fans, thanking Henry (and Henry obviously taking the opportunity to flirt back), and he was like “I WILL BE BACK” @v@
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Yang Kai said that after break dancing was added as an Olympic sport, more kids were being signed up by their parents
Tumblr media
- LMAO is it true that last season Yang Kai was called Yang Chaoyue? Yang Chaoyue is an actress, but the name Chaoyue also means like, going over the limit. And Yang Kai was like, I’m continuing to go over the limit this year.
Tumblr media
- Yang Kai’s performance had a martial arts theme. The beginning of the music was a call back to old Hong Kong action movies. It was the music that you hear when the name of the producer shows up on screen. Anyway, I liked it, I was entertained. I think it was helped by the fact that break dancing is just very impressive to watch because of how athletic and acrobatic it is. A huge shoutout goes to his backup dancers for sure, since they went all out with the stunts. But the choreography of the performance was very fun to watch, and Yang Kai himself did have time to shine.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
- I’m guessing shaving their heads is like, a tribute to Shaolin Monks?
Tumblr media
- Of the current top 8, Eleven had the lowest score, but Yang Kai had a higher score than him, so Eleven was eliminated.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Omg the DJ keeps playing See You Again for every elimination....what year is it XD
- I’m going to continue my screencaps in a second post, stay tuned!

"Minha mãe me apoiava muito."
Eu e ovelhas somos justos e bem claros."
Meu objetivo é constantemente me superar.
Ele é idêntico a outros artistas recém-chegados.

MEET SIMON CASTETS
Director, Swiss Institute. Contemporary Art New York
Tumblr media
Simon Castets has been at the helm of the beloved non-profit contemporary art space Swiss Institute for the past seven years. Founded in 1986, Swiss Institute is dedicated to promoting forward-thinking and experimental art making through innovative exhibitions, education, and programs. It serves as a platform for emerging Swiss and international artists, catalyzes new contexts for celebrated work, and fosters appreciation for under-recognized positions. After a several months-long hiatus due to COVID-19, Swiss Institute reopened its doors on September 9 with the time-based media program TENET. We recently caught up with Simon to discuss the effects of the pandemic, SI’s upcoming exhibitions and its dedication to community engagement.
Swiss Institute was closed for months due to COVID-19, how did you experience the lockdown? Are you able to move forward with the planned program or has the pandemic fundamentally changed your work?
Lockdown was a frightening time for many New Yorkers, but it also was an unprecedented moment of togetherness. I can speak from my experience at SI-- but when NYC went into lockdown on March 20th, I immediately entered into a conversation with fellow directors of contemporary arts nonprofits about how we could triumph over these unknown, looming threats. It is thanks to our working together, sharing ideas and information, that we managed to weather the storm.
As far as our program goes, we had to do a lot of reshuffling. Our Irena Haiduk and Jan Kiefer exhibitions were forced to close early, and our Jeremy Shaw exhibition has been postponed until 2022 due to sustained travel restrictions. These are the challenges of working with international artists. But it's also provided an opportunity to work in a different capacity. With artists Reetu Sattar and Yu Honglei, SI and the New York Public Library offered two artist talks in foreign languages, Bengali and Mandarin Chinese, respectively. We have conceived of a long-term, three part digital project with Sable Elyse Smith, who installed a public sculpture on our roof as part of our SI ONSITE series of semi-permanent installations and will curate our 2022 Architecture and Design Series. We are currently planning a full-building group exhibition that explores the concept of haunting.

Your current time-based media program TENET is particularly fitting for this moment, how did it come about? Was it conceived during the pandemic?
TENET is a product of the pandemic that came about when we realized our summer exhibitions were not possible, and that we needed a degree of flexibility in the type of exhibitions we were going to stage at SI. In many ways, it draws on the institution's history of unorthodox group exhibitions, perhaps most obviously by borrowing its title from the summer's most hotly anticipated, but conspicuously absent, blockbuster. We wanted to create a space where these excellent, underseen time-based media works (three single channel videos and one two-channel sound installation) could be easily accessed by our East Village community as a variation on a walk-in cinema.
Although they initially appear quite different from one another in form, all four works engage with notions of time: its repetition, acceleration, slowing and manipulation. In a year in which time as we knew it radically changed, this felt like an exhibition in which our audiences could take solace, but also discover works by international artists that resonated within this unprecedented moment.

The recent publication SInce 1986 chronicles the history of Swiss Institute, how has the institution evolved over the years? And how do you envision SI’s future?
One of the ideas that comes through in SInce 1986 is that in spite of SI's movement through the city and expansion of its programs and offerings, is that Swiss Institute has always kept carrying on the same spirit of experimentation. Our national affiliation has always been a bit of an anomaly within the nonprofit landscape of New York City, but throughout our history, SI has always played this to our advantage. This institutional ambiguity that SI has accrued in our history as an "outsider" has always given the organization the freedom to push boundaries and experiment, and always place the artist's wishes first. Our enduring support of female artists has been a cornerstone of our programming, but has expanded significantly in the past five years.
Perhaps what has most evidently changed since our founding is that we are more than ever focused on the communities we serve, always free-of-charge. Much of this came from securing a long-term home in the East Village-- a Manhattan neighborhood with a deep, complex artistic lineage. Upon moving to St. Marks Place, we established an education program for families, teens and older adults, and brought on a community engagement advisor who liaises with other East Village-based nonprofit organizations of all kinds. Central to SI's mission is providing a platform for artists to showcase their innovative work and ideas, and a large part of that is cultivating an audience that feels at home with SI.

What does SI have in store for us over the next few months? Is there an exhibition or artist that you are particularly excited about at the moment?
In early November, we will open our exhibition HAUNTED HAUS that features some of today's most exciting young Swiss and Switzerland-based artists including Alfatih, James Bantone, Milena Langer, Maïté Chénière, Ivan Mitrovic, Melanie Akaret, Cassidy Toner, Gaia Vincensini, Claire Van Lubeek, Alan Schmalz, Gabriele Garavaglia, Dorota Gawęda and Eglė Kulbokaitė. Later that month we will open a two-person presentation of the work of Sitara Abuzar Ghaznawi and under recognized Dadaist Emmy Hennings in our library space. In January we will open our annual architecture and design exhibition, curated by Puerto Rican-Kuwaiti artist Alia Farid. Entitled The Space Between Classrooms, the exhibition engages with the legacy of Alfred Roth-designed schools in Kuwait, and in a broader sense, the possibilities of unlearning as articulated by philosopher Ivan Illich. We are also very excited to open the first US presentation of Welsh artist Angharad Williams and Swiss artist Mathis Gasser entitled Hergest: Trem. As I mentioned, we are also working with Sable Elyse Smith on a digital initiative that takes the form of both a magazine and a vinyl mixtape. The first issue, Fear, launches on October 26 and features both new and old interdisciplinary work by Jessica Lynne, Paul Peiffer, Jibade-Khalil Huffman, Johan Grimonprez and Jason Moran.
