World Cancer Day Celebrated at Shoolini University 

    Solan, Feb 6   Shoolini University celebrated World Cancer Day with a series of activities on February 3rd and 4th. A cricket tournament, a session on cancer awareness and prevention for housekeeping staff, and visits to cancer wards were among the events.   The Shoolini YouWeCan Cricket Championship featured eight university teams, with the Baby Boomers emerging as champions. For his outstanding performance, Akshay Chawla was named Man of the Match. Yuvraj Singh, the cricketer, signed special gifts for the winners.   Volunteers from YouWeCan and the university's Team Dean Student Welfare (DSW) visited the cancer ward at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) Shimla to spend time with patients. They presented a fruit hamper and well wishes for a quick recovery.   A cancer prevention and awareness session was also held for the university's female housekeeping staff. The Polymer Problem and Bag Forever

If you have eyes for being eco-friendly, You would have spotted this term somewhere. It is a bag by You We Can. Multi-purpose really. I usually take it when I go get some groceries or have to drop my clothes at the laundry and so on. It looks thin but it can really hold a lot of weight. The claim is that it can hold around 20kg. That is a lot. But I have used it to carry around 10  to 15 kg when I went grocery shopping once. It costs around 99₹ per bag. Sometimes there are offers when you buy multiple together as well. 

You might argue. Well, this looks like nylon and nylon is a polymer. How do you call it eco-friendly. Well my friend, what really damages the planet is not the use of polymers and its derivatives. It is the wrong use of it. It is when you use them for what it is not meant to be used for, that you create problems. If you don’t believe me, believe Boyan Slat from the Ocean Cleanup project. So what are polymers good for. They are good for longevity. They are good for purposes where you would use them for a long time, away from the sun probably, away from contaminating your human body as well probably. So for example, plastic covers and pet bottles go directly against this concept. They are also so huge in number and so small in size that it is really hard to find them, separate them and process them for reuse. Let us see some examples of what causes more damage the environment. 

A bottle of mineral water. damages, yes, difficult to track, so many in number, one time use. That polythene cover you get when you get your parcel of food, yes, that is going directly to the dumps, more over along with organic waste, because you spilled some on it, so difficult to separate, and it lasted only for a few hours. That plastic water bucket you bought, not so much, you will use it for another two years at least. That plastic in your phone, not so much, again, it serves you for a long time. You get the picture. Extrapolate. 

Coming back to the bag. It seems like it will last you around an year or two with everyday use or even more. Use it!.
