Strategies for Building Cultures of Peace with Youth.
Young people should be at the forefront of global change and innovation. Empowered, they can be key agents for development and peace. If, however, they are left on society’s margins, all of us will be impoverished. Let us ensure that all young people have every opportunity to participate fully in the lives of their societies. kofi annan ⸪ To tie all of our learning together, we created a theory of change according to how the youth participants believe violence transformation and peacebuilding can occur. This theory of change was based on the work of Anderson (n.d.) who uses backward mapping, beginning with the goal and working outward toward the strategies. We explored the ingredients or building blocks required to build cultures of peace within our communities. We also identified the indicators, which would reveal our successes and failures in this effort. During this process the youth reflected on their past public engagement1 work and reflected on how they regularly developed strategies without considering the building blocks or the indicators of peace explicitly, a practice they hoped to include in future planning.

Political Leaders Seek to Attract Young People with Integrity to Politics
In recent years, there has been growing concern about the lack of young people with integrity in politics. Many political leaders have expressed a desire to attract more young people who are committed to ethical behavior, transparency, and community service.
To address this issue, political parties and organizations are taking steps to create a more welcoming environment for young people with integrity. One strategy is to promote transparency and accountability in government by making information about financial interests, voting records, and other relevant data publicly available.
In addition, many organizations are working to promote community engagement by supporting volunteer programs and youth leadership initiatives. These efforts aim to encourage young people to get involved in their communities and see politics as a way to make a positive impact.
Another important strategy is to provide mentorship and support for young people who are interested in politics. This includes creating mentorship programs and offering internships and other opportunities for young people to learn about politics and gain practical experience.
At the same time, political leaders are taking steps to address issues of corruption and ethical lapses in government. By promoting ethical behavior and preventing corruption, leaders hope to rebuild public trust in government and encourage more young people to get involved in politics.
Finally, many political parties and organizations are emphasizing the importance of diversity and representation in politics. By actively recruiting candidates from diverse backgrounds and supporting policies that promote equality and representation, leaders hope to create a political system that reflects the diversity of the communities it serves.
Overall, political leaders recognize the need to attract more young people with integrity to politics in order to build a stronger, more inclusive, and more effective political system. By promoting transparency, accountability, community engagement, mentorship, ethical behavior, and diversity, leaders hope to create a more welcoming environment for young people who are committed to making a positive impact in their communities.

Little things adults and older people can do to help younger people and children feel included, safe, and respected as an equal individual:
Ask before touching the young person - even for hugs. Ask before you take pictures of them, and let them see photographs of them before they are printed or sent to others (even family).
Apologize when you are wrong
Ask for a young persons thoughts on a subject, then engage with them after they have spoken
Demonstrate behaviour you want to see from them (see: apologizing). Say "excuse me," say "thank you," say "please" to them
Validate their feelings, even if they don't know how to express them just yet
Remember that this is the first time they've been alive, and that you've had way longer to "figure it out"
These are some things I wish other adults remembered when engaging with young folks. We so often forget what childhood felt like and how unfair it all was because we were often awarded freedoms as adults that we never had as children. These kids are equal to adults, and they deserve the same courtesy, respect, kindness, and understanding we give to other adults.

hello- on your jesus birthday post you said The Child Is The Price. What does that mean?
Okay THIS one I will answer. this is a reference to Roberte Icke's adaptation of Aeschylus' tragic play(s), The Oresteia. simplifying as much as possible, the story begins by following Agamemnon, the leader of the Greek army during the Trojan War. the winds he needs to sail his army to Troy have not been blowing, and Agamemnon receives a prophecy/instruction on what is needed in order to return the winds. the prophecy states "The Child is the Price". this phrase is repeated throughout the play, and what it is asking him to do is make a human sacrifice of his young daughter, Iphigenia. eventually, he goes through with it, and the winds do indeed return.
In the original plays by Aeschylus, the actual death of Iphigenia has already happened and is referenced as something the audience should already know all about. Icke chooses to add an act to the play that allows us to linger on that decision much longer. As a whole, the play deals heavily with themes of the nature of sacrifice, narrative inevitability, and cycles of guilt and violence.
When I was drafting my... infamous christmas post, I was trying to think of the story of the birth of jesus like a greek tragedy, involving very similar themes. factually, in a textual sense, jesus is the sacrifice. his death is the price paid for - according to christianity - absolution. and what I was attempting to point out is that we spend so much time celebrating jesus' birth as this wondrous arrival of the savior that we don't stop to meditate on exactly how bloodily that saving is going to play out. it's the exact same thing: The Child is the Price.
As a last note, many many many people have told me in the tags that me saying "Mary did you know? that your womb was also a grave?" is stupid because "all babies are born to die, Jesus isn't special" ...but there is a Very important difference I'd like to point. yes, all babies will die eventually. but NOT all babies are born to die. Jesus was. it was God's plan from the start for him to horrifically die on the cross, and it was inevitable as soon as Mary agreed to give birth to him. I feel that is an important part of the story. The Child is the Price.
(...anyway go read Robert Icke Oresteia and also watch Jesus Christ Superstar (1973) while you're at it)
