"IN THIS HOUSE, THE WIFE REIGNS SUPREME! "
Tumblr media
a/n: am i back? or perhaps this is a mere illusion..
synopsis: when faced with their wife's wrath, even the mightiest men of the land are forced to comply.
contents: small anecdotes, maybe ooc diluc because once again I am bad at writing him??? implied!female, whipped men (why not?) loser coded cuties scared of their wifes, mentions of pregnancy (wriothesley), swearing (mild), fluff, i blanked out mid way writing this but it is what it is and i find it cute, self indulgent.
not proof read.
Tumblr media
DILUC !
Tumblr media
Master Diluc was always in control. After all he ran the biggest winery in the entirety of Tevyat. Ledgers, Budgets, Circulation of goods, transactions, loans — this man could do it all.
On paper, he was the perfect husband. He was secure in himself, didn't take anyone's incompetence and preferred a quiet life with you. What more can a man desire?
However, as the saying goes - nothing is perfect. So having Kaeya, his stepbrother's continuous coercion into drinking was the imperfect part of his life. It was ironic really, being the owner of a winery, he held a distaste for alcohol and preferred grape juice.
Yet today he sat in his own tavern, one glass down. How had he come to this? How did he magically end up with one whole glass of wine in his system, coursing through his veins? He had no recollection.
He half heartedly listened to Kaeya and Rosaria's conversation when his ears caught another conversation. Two customers talked about having "wife" troubles and how they regret marrying so suddenly.
It was almost as if his tongue had gained consciousness of its own and the word fell out of Diluc's mouth, "As a man, if you only love one woman and then married her immediately—"
"Master Diluc" Kaeya tried. TRIED to stop this man.*
"...then you're truly foolish," Diluc finished. The silence that came next was merely the calm before the storm.
"Is that so?" the voice spoke up from behind. If anyone held the world record of sobering up in a matter of seconds- it would be Diluc Ragvinder right now.
"So..are you clever..or foolish for loving and cherishing me?" You leaned in, eyes radiating the clear sign— one wrong move and the celebrated Dark Knight Hero would be straight into his grave.
Diluc blinked once, twice- before stammering out in a fit of panic "uh..uh yes..yes ofcourse, I am foolish," he quickly admitted.
That may have saved him for the couch tonight but Kaeya was certainly not going to let him live this down.
ALHAITHAM !
Tumblr media
Alhaitham never hid the fact that he disliked being the Acting Grand Sage. The only positive part of the circumstance was that he had access to all the documents and he could analyse them all he wanted and leverage them to his favour in the future. If needed.
Thing was, now he had to oversee twice as many workers of the Akademiya and it was twice as grating at his nerves. He'd rather be rejecting applications into the Akademiya for his own amusement than be a leader. He was clear with he wanted — peace, quiet and stable income. Rest? He didn't care enough or purposefully tuned it out.
He was been a slight hardass to the employees, critiquing their work, pointing out alignment issues on documentation, muttering something on the lines of a 12 slab long relic being easier to decipher than this utterly mind numbimg report submitted by one of the freshers. He couldn't take it and reallocated the guy to some other department.
Now the others were worried of meeting the same fate. So desperate times called for desperate measures. You.
Alhaitham sat that day in his office, feeling uneasy. Why did it feel like something bad was going to happen?
Click. Click. Click.
Oh, he'd recognised that sound anywhere.
"I have heard that you are being a hard ass...to the employees..." you stood near his desk, foot tapping in a rhythmic motion, screaming "You better have a logical explanation"
Alhaitham gulped. Gulped. His adam's apple bobbing up and down in subtle apprehension. "Look, it is just that their work isn't upto the mark—"
"Then instruct them instead of firing people and causing terror."
Alhaitham was the Acting Grand Sage. He was the highest authority. He held dominance over every operation. However, domestic operations seemed to be the one field where he seemed to be rendered helpless at.
WRIOTHESLEY !
Tumblr media
Fontaine, the land of mechas, tea parties, elegant dresses, and ofcourse downpours.
The bakery was warm, contrary to the cold weather outside, full of delightful scents of baked bread, steaming buns, delectable cookies and much more. The owner smiled to themselves, cleaning the top of glass display, content with what they had established.
The bell rang, signaling someone entering the bakery. Who in their right mind would come in this downpour? The owner took the appreance of the man soaked from head to toe, his black hair damp and a bit flattened, the overcoat hanging off his shoulders seemed heavy and dripped with water. His boots thudded against the floor as he approached the counter.
"...Your Grace!?" The owner sputtered at the sight of the Duke of the Meropide, a man who was as illusive as they came. "What brings you here?" The owner couldn't help but ask, seeing the man who braved the storm and was now in his store.
"I need your sweetest baked good. And please, stuff it with extra chocolate. Extra means extra. The Duke emphasied on the extra part.
"Yes but...if you don't mind me asking, why are you out here in such a weather?"
"Because my wife is craving something sweet. And that's an order as far as I know it," the Duke laughed, both from amusement and the fear of being murdered in cold blood by a woman 27 weeks into pregnancy.
"Oh."
"Oh indeed."
Wriothesley returned 30 minutes later, both proud and tired, "here love I got you the—"
You looked at him and sheepishly grinned "um i actually want your spicy BBQ ribs..."
...
Someone end him please.
NEUVILLETTE !
Tumblr media
Neuvillette scribbled at the paperwork that piled up on his desk. Admistrative reforms, trade permits, policy amendment suggestions, court cases...
Tick tock tick tock
He glanced at the time. It was 8:30. He had strict orders to return home by 9. Non negotiable. After all his lovely wife said she would prep the best dinner date for the both of them and had been looking forward to it the entire week.
He couldn't help but smile the memory of her smile, her excited words as she explained her plans for the date, the different things she'd bake. It made his heart flutter. Neuvillette was a person unable to feel things — his position as the Chief Justice demanded that from him. Yet amidst all that, he enjoyed having a small space of comfort and familiarity he had created for himself. Just you and him. Nothing else.
Problem was—
8:35
"Monsieur Neuvillette, you've got these letters, some from the nobles, few from the common public." Sedene, the melusine receptionist reported, placing the heap of letters on his table.
8:40
"Monsieur, have you reviewed the case files for tomorrow? The board is asking for it." Sedene asked, waiting as he got up to retrieve the files.
He sighed, satisfied that he was finished with his duties for today. Now he could organize his space and still have time to get back home—
8:45.
"Monsieur! This needs your immediate approval! Its about amendment demands in the overseas trades by the foreign envoy"
Neuvillette wanted to pinch his nose. Seriously? How is it that the moment he fathoms the thought of some leisure...work finds its way to him? He was desperate to leave.
"Please tell them that my work hours are over and to come back in the morning." Neuvillette politely said.
"But they are not listening Monsieur—"
...sigh guess he had no choice.
He knew you would be furious. After all, he was 30 whole minutes later. Not one minute, not two but 30. As expected you were furious and it made fear and nervousness creep up his spine. The Iudex was a man of utmost authority. His judgement was absolute and his confidence was resolute.
Yet, all seemed to combust at the sight of you.
"Why?"
"Stubborn foreign envoy" he replied curtly, not beating around the bush.
You nodded before chuckling at his serious expression. "Relax honey, I am not going to skewer you with a fork."
Neuvillette exhaled in relief, "Thank god. Though I sincerely apologise my love."
"Oh no need. Just your company is enough" you smiled before going back to reheating the food.
Neuvillette didn't believe in falling in love twice. But hell he just did. With the same person that he devoted his heart to from the start.
ZHONGLI !
Tumblr media
"Honey, you're going out, yes?' You called out to Zhongli, who was finishing up getting ready for the day.
"Yes dear," Your husband replied in a deep opulent tone, enough to make your knees buck every single time.
"Please get milk, eggs and meat on your way back...we are out of it and I won't be able to make stew with just vegetables," You peeped out from the kitchen. He smiled, "ofcourse. I'll be back by noon."
Zhongli had impeccable memory. He could recall every moment of every war from millenias ago. Yet a small voice nagged at his brain. He was forgetting something. What was he forgetting?
"Director Hu, am I forgetting something?"
Hu tao turned around, looking utterly baffled, "you? Forgetting something? That's impossible Zhongli."
Zhongli thought for a bit more before agreeing. Yeah, he never forgot anything. Maybe it was just him overthinking...
If only he had listen to all the alarms that warned him for what was about to come.
"I am home" Zhongli announced softly, taking off his shoes and stepping into the house.
"Welcome back!" You greeted him with the same warm smile the Lord of Contracts had grown to love. In his eyes, not even the mostly radiant Cor Lapis could match your radiance.
Then the dreaded question came.
"Did you get the groceries?"
pause. visible sweat drop.
So that was what he forgot.
"Um.." Zhongli sheepishly scratched at his cheek,* "...it seemed to have slipped my mind. You see dear, Director Hu needed my help with the funeral preparations and then Childe accompanied me to this ancient artifact stall where they were selling rather intriguing pieces—"
"So, you forgot groceries but bought artifacts?"
"..."
And for the first time in a thousand centuries, Deus Auri had to stare at a dinner full of artifacts after his beloved reprimanded him, saying "since artifacts are so important, might as well satisfy your hunger with them too."

this sea of despair | c.s
Tumblr media
summary: you've always dreamed of exploring the vast lands and seas beyond the small and quiet town you grew up in... you just didn't think it'd come at the cost of your own dignity and integrity, getting thrown into a whole new world against your will where none of it matters and the only way to survive is to betray who you are in the face of choi san
pairing: choi san x f!reader
genre: pirates!au, angst, smut
WARNINGS: dubcon, sexual assaults, slut-shaming, san is a huge red flag, not a romance story sksjasjdsjs, half-assed smut, im failing to name all of them but pls go in cautiously & pls lmk if i should add something else
word count: 20.8k
you spot him immediately when you reach the top of the hill, the boy recognizable a mile away from the shirt he's wearing; the top once a white color but now a ragged and slightly dirty beige from all the years of owning it.
he looks over his shoulder when he hears the distant footsteps, a smile already on his lips before he's even sure it's you.
"hey," he greets, the soft gaze never leaving as you plop down on the grass next to him.
"hi," you return, adjusting yourself into a comfortable enough position before looking out into the horizon, seeing the sunset about to take over the sky while the waves crashes against rocks and each other.
this is your favorite place in the entirety of dune, sitting atop at such an angle with a sight makes you feel as if you have the whole world in the palm of your hand.
like if you look out far enough, you can see all the islands, other towns, and settlements in the south sea. and if you look even further, you just might be able to picture what those belonging to the north are like.
just the mere thoughts of it makes you excited--the illusion that you can achieve any and everything when you look down on a world that seems so much smaller than you.
but the place isn't just a spot for the eye candy but also safety. when you and minsoo wanna drown out the chitters and judgments of everyone else and escape into hushed whispers and sacred words you cannot say to anyone but each other.
you've known him for as long as you remember, and he always has a way to make you feel safe and comfortable; listened to and heard.
it always has felt like you found each other in a rather unfortunate world... at least that's how you see him. a speck of light in uncertain darkness.
"how's your father doing?" he asks, eyes and voice turning a soft empathetic.
the reminder brings out a low sigh, but it's an unfortunate reality you're living through.
"not well."
he was just fine a couple weeks ago, getting up and going about his routine when he fell ill out of nowhere, it came so quick and sudden, you couldn't process it at first that your own father was now stuck in bed all day while you ran across the town daily to find some kind of remedy... to no luck.
there's medicines that helps lessen the symptoms but things doesn't seem to be getting any better by the day.
"sorry to hear," he says, disheartened that he can't help you. it's hard to find any skilled doctors or expertise in such a field in a small place like dune. "keep trying. i''ll help, too, and let you know if i come across something."
"i appreciate it," you tell him, a genuine smile on your lips that he returns.
sometimes, you still wonder if not following the feelings budding underneath whenever you're with minsoo is a mistake.
if one day you're gonna grow to regret choosing your heart over safety and security, every time you're with him, the yearning and longing is felt on the surface you both won't scratch.
with how minsoo is, his nature always so selfless and self-sacrificing, he wouldn't let you. you know he still won't.
it was the day the topic finally showed its head after the both of you tippy-toed around it for so long... when it was clear as day even to those around that you hold good feelings for each other.
more than gratitude and being friends.
"but i think it's best we don't," minsoo says, his delivery bittersweet as you shoot to him with fluttering and confused lashes.
you clear your throat quietly and ask, "why not?"
because usually if the feelings of love and admiration are mutual, there isn't any reasons not to try. that's how it works, doesn't it?
"because i'll only hold you back."
you go blank at his words, attempting to mentally break down what he means exactly.
"didn't you say you wanna go out of dune? explore other nearby islands and towns, maybe even step foot into the north sea one day? i don't want you to have to choose between me or your dreams in the future."
you only stare at him, your throat feeling tight and head still a little confused, he has to add, "i don't plan on leaving dune. sure, it isn't the best place there is to be, but i like it here. it's where i was born and where i hope to die."
when you finally grasp what he's trying to tell you, a small sigh of defeat leaves your chest, but he takes your hands in his immediately and looks at you so assuringly like everything's gonna be okay.
"i'm not saying we shouldn't ever, but i hope to one day have the map you've always dreamed of creating in the grasp of my hand, and maybe you can tell me all about your adventures. but for now, i want you to freely dream of those things without having to consider anything else, okay?"
you don't know how he's still able to smile in such a situation, tucking a few strands of hair behind your ear and always with words that mends the doubts in you.
sometimes it feels like he has too much faith in you, and sometimes it's as if you're just chasing a false dream, but if it's to really happen one day, you'll do it for him, too.
--
you separate from minsoo on the path back to town, having to run to the only pharmacy in the town to pick up more medicines for your father.
the white building is quite small situating near the outskirts leading to the fields, and you've ever only seen one worker here who you've grown to be familiar with pretty recently.
she's a little older than you and very soft-spoken, her drive to always help the best she can is something you greatly appreciate.
walking into the empty pharmacy, she greets you immediately upon arrival and you wave as a response, watching as she bends under to pull out the bag she's already prepared beforehand.
"thank you," you tell her, pulling the few coins out of your pockets and handing it to her.
"your father doing any better?" she asks.
you shake your head, looking and sounding just as disheartened as when minsoo asked.
"unfortunately, no."
"sorry to hear," she says, also pitying you just as much as minsoo did. "if only dune were able to get exports from those in the north sea. but we have to do with what we're given. i hope you'll be able to find something better for your father soon."
you nod, a thin smile on your lips from the kind encouragement.
"yeah, i'm working on something," you answer, swiftly turning to the window and seeing the blackness that covers it entirely. "i'll take my leave now before it gets too late. once again, thank you."
you turn your back to head out when her slightly hesitant voice stops you.
"y/n."
"yes?" you stare wide-eyed over your shoulder.
"be careful, okay? i heard halateez are getting closer."
it takes you a few seconds to register what she's talking about, replying in a rather calm and casual tone, "yeah. you, too."
--
you didn't think much of what she said back at the pharmacy due to the sudden unexpectedness of it, but the closer you get to the town square, catching sight of the black and red bounty poster you've seen plastered for miles for the past months now, your body can't help but to get a chill that makes you wanna shiver in uneasiness.
halateez. they're one of the most notorious pirates crew roaming the seas of wonderland--well known for their disguises and hidden identities, now currently the biggest fear for everyone in dune because words are that they were just in the east sea a while ago, meaning as soon as they're done, they'll be heading down here.
no one knows what to expect but the fear definitely seems more real each passing day, waiting in apprehension for a mysterious ship to appear on the dock and just hope for the best.
and it might be because you're so deep in your thoughts, or that you can barely see in such darkness that the second you turn the corner to head down the road home, you hit face first into someone's hard chest causing the bag in your hand to drop and the few pill bottles to roll onto the ground.
you gasp and apologize under your breath, but there's no time to even see who it is because you're more concerned about salvaging your father's medications as you bend down immediately to pick it all up.
"again, i'm sor--" but you stop just short of finishing when you finally look up and the dark figure hovering over your body conjures up a knot in your throat, clearing it lowly and standing on your feet as you try to make out his features in the poor lighting.
he hasn't said anything despite the situation, though you're able to make out his brows as they curve at you in judgement.
your eyes lower to his chest, the black ink drawn on it intriguing you because it might be the first time you've ever seen anyone in dune with a proper tattoo.
you try not to stare too long, giving this man just one last look, finally adjusting to the lighting and seeing that he's actually quite good looking.
some intimidating features and a gaze that makes you wanna cower for sure, but he's handsome.
when he doesn't say anything, only continuously stare at you for what seems like the longest time, you apologize once more before bowing and excusing yourself, thinking of how odd such a man is on your way back home.
Tumblr media
you wake up to what is the loudest commotion ever in your 20 years of living, looking up to where your father is resting and glad it didn't also jolt him from his sleep.
something already feels very wrong, the pit of your stomach is telling you it and the sudden knock at the door as well.
when you open it to minsoo's concerned eyes and voice saying your name so early in the morning, you know it's only gonna get worse.
but before you can even ask why he and what seems like the entire town are up so early and looking absolutely scared for their lives, the deep and roaring voice of another from a distance away makes you snap to the source, your heart beating so fast in your chest at the sight.
as if the men from the posters you were just looking at yesterday jumped straight out of them and is now in front of you--black attires, hats, masks, and all armed as they stand right in the middle of the town square as the one that spoke just now stands just a couple feet ahead of the rest.
"listen up! we want a thousand coins from each house within an hour! if you don't have it, you better find a way!" the man threatens, his right hand holding a gun that sits on his shoulder so comfortably.
cries and panics ensues instantly, your heart breaking at the distress written all over fathers, mothers, and children's faces as most of them cradles each other in a hug and cry together, then some retreating back into their house in defeat.
you turn to look at minsoo and he has the same look all over his face, sharing the same desperation as you but also disappointment and anger that nothing can be done.
"i'll get back to you soon. you let me know if you need me," he tells you much to a nod before going back to his own house and family.
you take another glance at the men in black as they just sit around and chat away like they're not ruining the lives of a community already going through a hard time.
your father is already awake when you return inside, asking you in his frail voice, "what's going on?"
"nothing," you tell him, putting on your best smile. he's sick and he doesn't need even more things to worry about. "just a town event."
he doesn't say furthermore but he does watch you go through your belongings until you pick up what looks like a jar full of coins.
"i'll be back," you assure, walking out and shutting the door because you don't want him to see or be a part of any of it.
as you await in the compacted living area for your turn, the longer you stare at the jar in your hand, the more you wanna cry because this is all you have from all the years of saving.
all of your dreams and future is in this small jar that you've spent the last few years putting all your blood, sweats, and tears into because if you were to ever get out of dune one day, you want it to be by your own doings.
a thousand coins is almost an entire year worth of living in the south sea. stupid fucking pirates.
you don't necessarily have a problem with them because just like people, there's good and bad pirates, and at least the ones that had passed through dune before were just rowdy at worst given most only came for the brothel, but they never held the townsfolk at freaking gunpoint.
at least half an hour goes by when you finally hear the voices before the knocks.
"are you sure it's this one?"
"yes. he couldn't shut up about it."
you open the door slowly with a racing heart, the two men in front glaring you down and making you feel all kinds of discomfort even through the disguises.
you don't say anything, only extending your hands with the jar in it, hoping and wishing for it to be over as soon as possible while you keep your gaze to your feet.
too long goes by when nothing happens, looking up again only for one of them to say, "we don't want coins from you." the statement making you raise a brow in confusion.
"you're y/n, right?" the other one who's just slightly taller than the first, says, with you returning a halfhearted nod. "it's been requested that you come with us."
and if they weren't holding your entire town hostage and parading around like they'll actually do what they say, you might think they're out of their minds because how in the hell do they know your name and is now demanding just the absolute craziest request.
"says who?" you reply, an edge to your voice that's starting to no longer consider the presence of these maniacs who could do anything to you.
"you don't need to know," the first one responds, the audacity to sound even more annoyed than you, before swiftly grabbing for your wrist but you're quick to pull back.
"i'm not fucking going," you spit. "i'll do anything and everything, even pay double, but if you guys think i'm coming with, you're insane."
he only laughs, his amusement clear even with the mask on.
"sweetheart, you're insane if you think you have a choice, now let's not make this even--"
it's probably stupid of you to shut the door in front of two very obviously strong men who's also taller than you, but you do it anyway and of course--it doesn't work, the one with a deeper and more annoying voice stops it immediately, pushing the frame back so hard it thumps against the wall and causes your father's voice to pierce from the bedroom.
"y/n, honey, is everything okay?"
"yes! everything's fine. please don't come out!"
when you look them both in the eyes again, backing away slowly with your throat and heart clenched as they only get closer, you're really not sure if you'll be able to get out of this.
"that your father?" the more annoying one asks again, his head tilted and mocking you through the tone.
"none of your fucking business."
but he only laughs again, like there's something so entertaining for him in other people's misery.
"oh, but it is. because if you don't come with us, you'll be putting your father in a lot of trouble."
you fume through your nose. "you wouldn't dare."
and just when you eventually loosen up and lets your guard down, not wanting to put your father in any danger, the other one comes at you so fast, you can barely react.
his hand clasp your mouth and nose tightly with something you can't even properly make out because you're busy struggling, eyes suddenly heavy and consciousness gone before all you see is utter darkness.
Tumblr media
"seriously, what the fuck?"
"he asked us to do it."
"doesn't mean you had to. you know he's a fucking maniac."
"he also asked us to not smother her with chloroform but that also didn't happen."
"what else were we supposed to do? she was resisting."
"does hongjoong know about this?"
"not yet."
"jesus fucking christ... did she see you guys without your masks on?"
"no. but not like it matters now anyway."
you hear the conversation and booming voices for a good minute before you can fully make out your surrounding.
there's a brown nightstand in front of you with a badly lit lantern sitting on top, and when you're able to roll onto your back, you find the ceiling is made out of wood with multiple lines of thicker woods spreading across just a few inches apart.
you're constantly rocking back and forth, unable to stay still as if being swayed by the motions of water, and then comes the smell. something of fish and another you can't dissect just yet.
then it hits you. halateez and their threats, the two men walking into your house and demanding you come with them, then your attempt to fight when one of them suddenly came at you.
you wish it was all a bad dream, but you know it's not. it all feels too real and your current state is proof of it.
you turn to face the side of the wall made out of even more wood, a lone tear rolling down your cheek as you sniff the salty air when the door comes apart, causing you to jolt from your position.
standing there is a face you can actually see as you two just continuously stare at one another, your body naturally retracting and curling up because these people could do anything to you.
it's almost as if he can read your mind, shutting the door gently and telling you at the same time, "i'm not gonna hurt you, don't worry."
he looks a lot younger than any pirates you've ever seen in your lifetime... like he could be even younger than you.
"where am i?" you ask, volume barely loud enough and sounding like you're gonna break into a cry any second.
"a pirate ship," he answers, having stopped just short of the door and staring you down... but you knew where you are. maybe you were just hoping you would be wrong.
"please let me go back home," you beg, the waterworks already coming, usually not one to drop a sob story to get your ways but there's no other choice.
this is so wrong on so many levels and you actually cannot fathom it being a reality right now.
the man takes a short, almost remorseful breath, moving his gaze to the floor briefly before he locks eyes with you again.
"i'm afraid that isn't possible. the ship's already moved away from dune for a while now. plus, he won't let you leave. not anytime soon at least."
"he?" you quote, pitch high and curious.
"says who?" you reply, an edge to your voice that's starting to no longer consider the presence of these maniacs who could do anything to you.
"you don't need to know," the first one responds, the audacity to sound even more annoyed than you, before swiftly grabbing for your wrist but you're quick to pull back.
"he'll be here soon," is all he tells you about this mysterious man before going off about other things. "if you need to relieve yourself, it's the door to your right. probably different than what you're used to but you'll get the hang of it soon. dinner is at 7, and if you have any further questions, you'll have to ask san yourself. i don't know when i'll get to talk to you again."
you open your mouth to say something but a call outside cuts you short.
"jongho!"
he gives you another look, his expression unreadable. he seems to feel bad for you but it's hard to believe anyone's intentions and sincerity in your current state.
"i have to go," he says, turning his back to you, one hand on the handle when he stops to look over his shoulder to give you the final farewell, his pitch suddenly deeper as if sending you a warning. "i know it sucks, but please, try to be on your best behavior. he won't show you the same mercy."
you don't say anything, watching as he leaves and gaze drawn to the tattoo on the back of his wrist that you swear looks familiar but is unable to get a closer look.
left to your own devices, your mind is traveling at a thousand miles per hour, talking under your breath and pacing around the tiny cabin trying to digest everything just now while simultaneously trying to think of how to get the hell out of here.
san. jongho, who you think is his name, said it. san is the fucking lunatic that ordered for you to be here.
well, you certainly don't wanna be here when he shows up, searching the entire perimeter of the room for anything and even going into the so-called "restroom" jongho was referring to only to find two buckets--one filled with water and one empty, before shutting the door in defeat.
when you're just about out of ideas, plopping down on the edge of the bed and accidentally making eye contact with the porthole on the other side of the nightstand, you don't know why you didn't think of it sooner.
you can try breaking it... if you can find something, once again touring the area and busy looking over and under that when the door creaks open again, you just freeze in place.
"planning to escape?" a voice lighter and different from jongho filled with amusement rings from behind as you swallow down the knot and spin around slowly. "i wouldn't do that if i were you."
he still has on his disguise attire or whatever the hell it is, but the second he locks eyes with you, he starts taking off just about everything, starting from his hat then his mask.
when it finally comes off, you visibily and audibly gasp.
“again, i’m sor–” but you stop just short of finishing when you finally look up and the dark figure hovering over your body conjures up a knot in your throat, clearing it lowly and standing on your feet as you try to make out his features in the poor lighting.
he hasn’t said anything despite the situation, though you’re able to make out his brows as they curve at you in judgement.
"you!" your finger weakly points at him in accusation, but the man just smirks like he finds a kick out it.
his chin nods off to the porthole and you follow, his voice soon filling up the space, "if you wanna try jumping out of that, i'll tell you now it won't work. we're so far from any land at this point, you'll soon drown before you even know it."
now that you're able to see him clearly, his features more prominent and menacing in daylight, nothing welcoming like the boy that came before him especially with how he's literally undressing you with fox eyes, you can't help but to grow smaller and slowly retract away from this man.
"you're the one that ordered all of this shit?" you still manage to say despite the fear overtaking your body as you watch him take off the coat and pull the turtleneck off his head.
you avert your eyes to the floor to avoid the sight of his naked torso, but he seems to find something so funny about it as he laughs it off.
"i did," he replies nonchalantly, clearly unbothered even with the sincerity and seriousness of your question, only throwing himself down onto the bed with his hands behind his head as he continues to stare at you some more, never in your life have you ever felt this uncomfortable.
"why?" your voice cracks, all that anger and grief coming back up even stronger this time around. "what did i do to deserve this? i was just living my life, my father is sick and he needs me. what would he do without me?"
you're full on crying at this point, hoping and praying that maybe this man in front of you who looks like he's listening to just about the most boring past time story, will somehow take pity on you and let you go.
you've done nothing but tried your best to only do good deeds, so why you of all people?
you think of your father; of minsoo...
san shrugs, not moved by the tears or the breaking of your voice.
"i did it because i can? i did it because i want to?" he says, unsure himself much to your utter disbelief because he cannot be serious.
"so you're that fucking bored you just go around stealing lives of people because you can?" you scoff. "you pirates are so stupid."
he smirks and you regret the words the instant he gets off from the bed and starts walking toward you until your back hits the wall and you cannot go any further, really showing you where you stand in a situation like this.
you're holding your breath with clenched fists when he lowers his gaze to yours, tilting his head mockingly in a proximity too close for your liking.
"if you don't want anything bad to happen to you, i suggest you speak to me a little more fucking nicely, huh?"
you swallow the tension, staying quiet and choosing safety because you have no idea how he's gonna react and what he's capable of just yet.
then it catches your attention again while you're actively avoiding his gaze... the black ink on his chest in the shape of an 'a' and a circle around it.
that must also be what jongho has at the back of his wrist.
"good girl," he coos, breaking your train of thoughts as the pet name makes you feel all forms of disgust, the way he says it so affectionately when right now, all you wanna do is kick him in the shin.
you think if you don't say anything and let him be, he'll leave you alone, but he shamelessly rakes over your face and figure with a twisted gaze.
"you know," he whispers, breath ghosting the tip of your skin, finally looking up to meet his eyes. you hate the fact he's attractive for such a sick person, and you hate it even more the way he's biting at his lower lip. "you're even more beautiful up close."
you wonder if he can hear how loud your heart is beating, so afraid and fearful about what he's gonna do to you.
and when one of his fingers slowly creeps up to brush against your cheek, you visibly flinch, prompting a snicker from him before he backs away completely much to your relief.
you proceed to watch as he walks over to the nightstand and pulls a piece of clothing out of the top drawer, then throwing it onto the bed.
"change into this by tonight," he informs, tone calm but you know it's an order.
he isn't done just yet, going back to fetch one last thing before shutting it and putting on a show for you as he works on wearing the black top he got just now, pulling until it sits on his skin comfortably.
"i've got some unfinished business so i'll be back by dinner time. but for now, stay put and might i warn you one more time, don't try anything stupid and don't even try entertaining the idea of escaping," he states, the warnings sending a chill down your spine.
he doesn't wait for any kind of response from you, leaving the second after and lifting the heaviness off your chest even if just slightly.
this man really just came in here to intimidate you because he can.
--
there is really not much to do, especially in a small space you're unfamiliar with. you go back between sitting on the bed and looking through the porthole watching as the waves carry the ship along the dark water.
you don't allow yourself to sleep even if your eyelids are growing heavier each hour, your heart unable to be at rest with such a situation you had no say in.
you still haven't even changed into the outfit san demanded you to because you don't know why he wants you in such skimpy clothings for.
you absolutely refuse to wear it.
and although he's warned you to not even think of escaping, your mind can't help but to drift to the possibility of getting out of here. maybe not right now but in the future, it could happen.
he's a fool if he thinks you've already accepted your fate.
it's getting darker outside and you're failing at finding things to keep yourself occupied, when the sudden chatters outside takes your attention.
it's a tad muffled but you can still make out most of what they're saying--the voices sounding like they belong to the men earlier who's responsible for you being here in the first place.
"yeah, she's beautiful so i can understand, but san is still one crazy son of a bitch for doing this." you hear the laughters, such a matter being reduced to a casual discussion between the two.
"he didn't do it alone, though. we literally took the girl away from her home."
"you think san's going to... tonight?"
you don't even realize your ears are practically glued to the door attempting to eavesdrop, but you back away from it the second you finally digest the comment, not even bothering to hear the rest of the conversation.
is this why he took you in the first place and even ordered for you to change into some lingerie by the time he returns? it would only make sense because what other use would someone like you be good for?
just the thought of it sends your body into a state so scared and helpless, desperate to take back the rights of your life into your own hand but completely out of ideas as of currently.
minsoo would always tell you you're the most beautiful girl he's ever seen, and it was flattering at first... why wouldn't it be? it was until it wasn't; your appearance all anyone could talk about.
the aunties that lived next door would always tell your father jokingly that if he had just let you work at the brothel, the two of you could make way more than tending to crops and animals.
you don't have a problem with anyone who does that as a way of living, but it is simply not for you.
your beauty has done nothing in life for you but served troubles.
there's no way to tell time except for the darkness coating the porthole and the way your heart beats faster every passing minute, waiting in anxiety till san will eventually come back.
when you're just starting to doze off, managing to forget about him for just that quick moment, he finally makes an appearance again, the sound of the door opening jolting you from the drowsy state and into fear once again.
you watch him throw a mere glance at the piece of clothing still untouched on the bed.
"i'm pretty sure i gave you a clear order, no?" he looks at you, his antagonizing gaze already making you feel small.
but you stand your ground, spitting lowly but boldly, "i'm not wearing that."
he scoffs, shaking his head to the ground, honestly amazed at the amount of resistance and bravery one still has in a scene where they're clearly at a disadvantage.
he thinks you have absolutely no instincts for survival.
"what exactly do you plan to do with me?" you ask, desperate for a clearer answer, even if you have to annoy it out of him at your own expense. "where the hell are we even going, and can i please just know what's going on?"
he sits himself down on the lone chair near the door, eyes burning into yours as if shooting lasers.
"you sure have a lot of questions, don't you?"
"well i suppose you would too if you were taken away from your home by some lunatic."
san laughs at the jab, a smirk overtaking the shape of his lips after.
"curse at me some more, don't you? it kind of turns me on."
him abducting you should be more than enough proof you're not dealing with a sane person, but this seals it.
"you're out of your fucking mind," you say under your breath in utter disbelief but barely making an effort so he doesn't hear it.
"call me whatever names or insults you want, but it won't faze me, dear. i've heard it all."
you roll your eyes. "oh, i don't doubt it."
a couple seconds of fuming silence goes by before he's the one to speak up.
"we're heading to scorched bay. we'll reach it in a day or two. any more questions, princess?" he raises a brow, his tone a combination of teasing and purposely provoking you.
"why did you decide to ruin my life? why me?" your delivery a bit sarcastic and bitter, bringing about a chuckle from san. but he wouldn't really just do it because he can as he so-called claimed, right?
"that's some strong wordings, but i did it because i like you, is that so hard to believe?"
the room goes even more quiet than before, because this man in front of you who did just about the last thing anyone would do to someone they like, is saying that's exactly what this is.
"yeah, i do find it quite hard to believe."
he shrugs, still unmoved and only proceeding to stare at you with something in his eyes--a challenge--going on to say something that makes you even more uneasy than before.
"well, stick around longer and you'll find i mean every word i say."
Tumblr media
if san couldn't get any crazier, he definitely hit his peak when he thought you'd sleep in the same bed as him.
he surprisingly didn't put up much of a fight when you obviously refused, but now you're starting to think he did it on purpose because he knew how uncomfortable the floor is, and that eventually, you're gonna end up regretting the choice.
"changed your mind just yet?" his voice in the dark making you jump slightly, but you try your best to maintain the composure.
"no," you say stubbornly.
because even if the wood flooring is hard and rough on your skin, you'd rather have that than spend the night sharing the same bed with a man you barely know.
"suit yourself."
you squeeze your eyes and force it shut, because if you can fall into darkness, this will all be over soon enough
--
san doesn't let you leave the room even the following day, only bringing you food when it's time so you'll have something and not die off--though you'd much rather prefer that at this point.
the only good thing is he isn't with you most of the day, always out and about and only showing up once in a while to warn you again, or get something before leaving for hours.
occasionally you'd listen to the conversations outside that's within earshot, none of them too interesting or important until you hear one concerning the ship's arrival in scorched bay by tomorrow morning.
you can't seem to trust san's words for now and you don't want to considering the person he is, but it only makes sense they're going in order.
after scorched bay, port cove would be up next.
you know you probably shouldn't entertain the idea, but you go to sleep tonight on the hard wood flooring with hope comforting you in your dreams and that tomorrow, there's a chance you could be free from this prison.
--
you're woken up by the much louder chatters foreign to a ship with a relatively small group of people, when the revelation of yesterday hits you, sitting up immediately only to see san raising an eyebrow at you while sitting on the edge of the bed shirtless.
"excited to wake up today, aren't you?" the way he says it, as if trying to get under your skin, but if you really want your plan to work, you have to go just the extra mile to stay on his good side.
you smile in return instead. "i've just always wanted to see scorched bay."
he smirks, shaking his head before standing up to look for his shirt.
"you're not going anywhere," he says, the same time he throws that same turtleneck over his head.
you already knew that but you still can't help but to feel a little dejected at the reminder.
"so what am i going to be doing for the meantime?" you ask.
he shrugs, grabbing for his coat on the rack near the door.
"you don't try to do anything stupid before we return, which should be before it gets too dark."
you fume lowly at the response. it's like every time you try to talk to him like a normal human being, he always has a way to make you feel less in return.
"i'll be back," he tells you and storms off.
you sigh as soon as the door closes. you need to do it quick and fast before he leaves. that it needs to be believable and there's a big chance it might not work but you need to try.
scorched bay is the closest to dune and the further the ship drifts away, the harder and longer it will be to get back to your father and minsoo.
you make yourself more presentable during the time he's gone, waiting in apprehension because as soon as he comes back, you have to strike immediately.
when the door finally creaks open again, you jump up so fast, san might think you're just that excited to see him again.
"what do you want?" he asks, already able to tell from your body language you want something.
"san," you roll his name off your tongue, making sure you sound soft and sweet, watching the way he blinks at such a tone, "i really need to use the restroom."
"go in the bucket," he replies coldly.
"no, but, i-i'm not used to it yet. can i please just go out to use the restroom? just this once? i promise i'll return as soon as i'm done."
he exhales in annoyance, unable to believe you're doing this right now.
"please?" you try again, even more desperate this time. "i also want to see scorched bay just once. i've never been out of dune. i-if i try anything, you can do whatever you want to me."
you say the last line a little too boldly though a little regretfully, the consequences of the words slipped not even in your mind at the time you said it.
"anything?" he repeats after, a smirk creeping onto his lips.
you nod hesitantly, feeling yourself shrink when he steps closer to you.
"remember your words, princess. because if it turns out you have other things in mind, don't say i didn't warn you."
--
it was obvious he wouldn't send you alone, but you were surprised he didn't go with you himself and instead sends one of his men.
he's trailing behind you, eyes burning into the back of your head and never failing to remind you that he's watching your every moves.
you walk through the crowd of townsfolk, able to see mountains and trees peaking from behind their heads, and shops and stalls everywhere.
the place similar to dune but much livelier and spacious if judging by the amount of people there are compared to the small town square back where you came from.
you find yourself smiling and stopping in place to admire the new but almost familiar setting, the hit of nostalgia already through the roof even though you haven't even been away for that long.
it makes you miss the place, and more importantly, it makes you miss your father and minsoo.
"hey," the voice from behind knocks you out of your thoughts.
you snap your neck around to san's man's stern gaze as he ushers at the road ahead.
"no looking around. we have to get going."
"i was just admiring the scenery," you reasons, much to the continuously cold shoulder.
"doesn't matter. now go." he slightly nudges you by the back to keep walking and you scoff at the physical force.
what the hell is wrong with all these men and their need for aggression?
you avoid the hair raising at the back of your neck and keep walking until you finally spot a public restroom, turning around to tell him you'll be back.
"make it quick," he says rather harshly and a bit annoyed, much to an eye roll from you as soon as you turn the other way.
the women's restroom is a small four stalls with tan brick walls, your eyes scanning every corner for an escape route--immediately landing upon the lone window sitting at the very top of the biggest stall.
it looks like it could barely fit you but you think you might make it. you have to try. you just need something to help you get up there first.
thankful that no one's here to see such madness, you step inside the biggest stall and of course, there's absolutely nothing here that could help you reach that height.
you bite at your bottom lip, trying to reframe from panicking and pacing around the open space of the stall when it clicks.
you can just use the toilet itself as a stepping stool. it's not high enough, but it's a start and you'll be able to open it up from where you are.
the rest is up to your perseverence and whether you can really push yourself up and through such a tight opening.
there's no time to think the plan more through or pick out the flaws, because the longer you're in here, the more suspicious san's man will get.
you step on the toilet seat before moving up onto the tank, reaching your arm out at this angle and easily pushing the window open by the handle as you can hear the glass thump quietly against the other side of the wall.
on your tippy-toe, you grab the other side with both arms and grip it with all your strength, scraping the walls with your feet to help your body over it.
the good thing is that it's grass you'll be falling into. the part where you didn't think through is that you'll be falling face and head first.
thankfully, it's not too high but there's no way you'll make it out without getting some form of injuries.
you probably just stare at it for a few seconds, contemplating just about everything and if you really wanna do this, until the loud knock at the door with your name echoing from the other side reminds you just once again of how much you'd rather break a neck or a leg than to be stuck on that ship for who knows how long.
the pain is quick at first, your arms having covered your face as you brace the fall and land hard against your back. it doesn't really hurt till it settles in, the ache and burn on the surface of your skin that has been scrapped on the way down.
the amount of trees luckily covers the scene, and though you're still sore and hurting from the fall, there's no time to waste as you stand on your feet and limp away the best you can.
that if you can get far enough; if you can stay in hiding for a while, you'll be free again. you can go back to living the life you once were and be able to return to your father.
the townsfolk are probably only able to help you as much as the people in dune can--as in they're completely powerless when it comes to a crew like halateez so it's best you don't trouble anyone.
the best bet for now is to stay in hiding until you're safe and then go from there.
you manage to make it to another public restroom, using the crowd and scenery to blend in, running to the men's this time because it would be harder and unpredictable if they were to try to find you.
you breathe an air of relief when you finally sit down on the toilet seat, your back and just about every bones still sore and hurting but you're just so happy to have come this far.
the front of your hands and elbows are bleeding, using the toilet papers to quickly mend away the pain for now until you can get actual help later on if you make this.
then you wait and wait, each steps whether loud or quiet into the restroom making your heart jump in uneasiness, until a ruckus outside takes you and what sounds like about everyone's attention.
that must be them--san and the rest of his men doing what they do best; doing the same thing they did to the people of dune.
the voice confirms your suspicion, though it doesn't belong to san, the familiarity still rings a memory so clear.
"listen up! we want a thousand coins from each house within an hour! if you don't have it, you better find a way!" the man threatens, his right hand holding a gun that sits on his shoulder so smoothly.
you hate them so much. every one of them.
what rights do they think they have by taking away from others and playing god?
you wish you could do something but the hard to swallow truth is you can't. if you could, you wouldn't have been in this position in the first place.
you're no different than anyone currently being held hostage and threatened by these stupid pirates.
so you wait some more. wait so long that you've lost track of time and the night has gone so quiet, you haven't heard a single footstep or any signs of life nearby for a while now.
maybe you should wait it out longer until the sun comes up at least and increase the chances of being in the clear, but it has very certainly turned dark quite a while ago and probably past midnight.
you can feel the goosebumps on your skin raise from just the realization that you're alone in the restroom at night in a town you have little knowledge regarding.
it's way too quiet and late for halateez to still be at the dock.
san said they'd be leaving before it gets dark, and surely you don't mean that much to him just yet that he'd make the ship delay their route when he hasn't even known you for a week.
you can probably make it to the town hall, recalling seeing it on your way and maybe ask if the mayor or anyone can help.
you don't know if you can bear staying here for another hour.
quietly peeking out the stall, you walk with cautious steps and a conscious fully alarmed when exiting the restroom, ignoring spine-chilling sensation you get from the setting as you make your way to the town hall following a path you believe should lead you there.
the closer you get, the smaller the anxiety brewing in your chest becomes, feeling as if safety and security is only so close, you can reach it if you just walk a little faster.
your pace picks up and for a second there, you see the light. your heart beating faster and your breath harsher from the distance traveled here, because just a little more and you'll make it.
all it takes for your dreams and such a bright future ahead to be crushed is the sudden hand that appears out of thin air and latches onto your wrist at such a speed you can't even react to as it flings your body to the side and drags you away.
you think the same man san sent found you, when the figure comes to an abrupt stop and turns around, wishing that it had been him instead of san himself.
you swallow in fear, never in your life have you ever felt so scared before.
he stares down at you still in his disguise except the mask that has come off, a burning look of anger in his eyes and you can't predict what he's gonna do at all.
you fucked up. you officially got caught and ruined probably your only chance of ever escaping.
god, you feel so hopeless.
"what did i fucking tell you?" he growls lowly into the night, feeling his grip on you get tighter with every spoken word. "i warned you, didn't i?"
you're in such shock, mind out of ideas until the only thing you can think of in the moment to still possibly salvage the situation is to immediately scream for help.
you barely get more than one shriek when san pulls you toward him, flushed against his chest and one hand gripping at your jaw to shut you up.
"if you know what's good for you, you'd shut up and go back nicely. besides, what can these pathetic people do for you? you'll end up right back in my arms either way."
you spit in his face, pushed to your absolute limit and way past the point of caring.
"fuck you," you curse at him. "i will never like you. i hate you. hate you, you hear me?" you deliver your words with such boldness and resentment despite the tears starting to brew.
you almost expect him to hit you, but instead, he hurls out a deep and sinister chuckle, wiping the spit off with his free hand and angles you to look up at him with the grip he still has on your jaw.
"since you love spitting so much, i'm 'oughta teach that mouth of yours some respect."
you have no idea what he means until he suddenly crashes his lips onto yours in a swift motion, allowing you no room to breathe except to stubbornly close off your own lips and deny him any entrance or satisfaction.
though you're desperately trying to fight back, both palms at his chest trying to push him away, he barely moves from his spot because he's so much stronger than you.
not only have you ever felt so hopeless, but now also violated as this person who's already stripped you of your future is trying to take ownership of your body, too.
it's the longest few seconds of your life when all you can focus on are the sloppy movements of his tongue, finally able to free yourself when he loosens up, pushing him away as you weep quietly into the night.
you don't get the time to mourn or cry about the fact this man just took your first kiss by force given he has no sympathy and only seems to care about himself.
"if you wanna make it through the night, you better keep that mouth shut and rethink any other ideas you have in mind, because trust me, i can do much worse."
you absolutely don't doubt he can, which is why you keep your sobs quiet while he drags you by the wrist to that godforsaken ship you thought you would never see again.
"san, it hurts," you try telling him plenty of times throughout the trip back only for your pleads to go in vain.
he doesn't care how tight he's holding onto you or how fast he's walking and that you're unable to keep up. this is your punishment for what you've done and he's gonna make sure you feel the wrath of it.
when you guys finally aboard the ship, he drags you through the few people watching just as harshly.
some wearing the same outfit as him but with masks on and some without--one of them you recognize as jongho, and then the rest in much casual attire similar to the man san sent with you in the first place.
you meet jongho's eyes briefly and you can't tell if it's sympathy that's present in them due to how fast san is moving until the door to the cabin you've been trapped in for the past days is standing in front of you.
with a quick unlock, it all happens so fast you can't even process san tossing you onto the bed until you're planted face first, turning on your back only to cower away in fear of what he's gonna do--especially now that you two are actually alone.
you're able to make out his features better in the ship's lighting, a look of unamused and anger crossing both at once that makes you regret the events of today.
he gave you a clear warning and you defied it. there's no way you're coming out of this unscathed.
and you don't wanna think about what could be even worse than forcefully shoving his tongue down your throat.
there's a few seconds of stare off as you try to predict his next moves.
"you're sleeping in the bed with me from now on. i don't wanna hear it," he tells you sternly.
you keep your mouth shut, knowing that continuously pissing san off is probably the last thing you wanna do right now, especially after having annoyed him enough for today.
"did i make myself clear?"
when you don't say anything, he walks closer that you can barely stutter out a, "y-yes."
"great. when i come back, i better see it."
and he walks out, the aftermath of the door shutting is the first peace and relief you get after being in the presence of him.
you really don't wanna do it but there's no other choice. you've ran yourself into this corner and the only way out--at least for now--is to abide by his rules.
you finally hop into bed after a few minutes of mentally battling yourself.
being able to sleep on an actual bed for what feels like a while is the upside, so it sucks that you're gonna have to share it with what is basically the spawn of satan himself.
you just hope to fall asleep fast enough so you won't have to deal with it when he actually comes back. praying that when you wake up the next morning, he'll also be gone before you know it.
but too much is going through your mind; your thoughts absolutely consuming, that before you can even black out, you hear the fidgeting of the door handle and then the opening of it, much to your disappointment.
you force your eyes shut, pretending to be asleep but the smallest curiosity has you opening just one eye to see what he's doing, having to keep from reacting when you can make out his shirtless torso.
when he senses some movements and suddenly snaps your way, you have to keep up the act of being asleep although the sound of his clothes hitting the floor makes you extremely uncomfortable.
it gets harder to keep it up the second he starts crawling onto bed, pulling up the blanket to situate himself under and then next to you, his chest now flushed against your back and you just wanna kick him off already.
you think it can't get any worse but he proves you wrong by snaking an arm around your waist and practically crushes you with his own skin until you can feel something hard rubbing against the back of your thighs.
"i know you're not asleep," he whispers into your ear, the surprise making you flinch as your eyes open fully to darkness.
you can't see him but you can hear his genuine and amused laughter, immediately attempting to pry off his arm much to no use.
"shhh. don't try to fight it."
and maybe the weight of today finally hit you, because you don't even have the strength to fight him anymore. between sleeping in the same bed with san and him occasionally placing small kisses at your neck, you eventually manage to fall asleep.
Tumblr media
the next couple of days goes by with you holding your breath every second you're with him.
he has become stricter; although he didn't let you out of the cabin before, he's now made it an official rule you cannot go out unless he gives you permission.
if he has to leave for his daily business, he makes one of his men guard the door outside and practically has you on watch 24/7.
if he can't bring you food himself, he'd also leave it to them. your whole entire world is basically the perimeter of this room.
you have become so bored (though you've rather be bored and not have him here than be alerted with him), you begged him to let you do something or at least give you something to do.
he dropped off a bunch of books and told you to "do whatever you want with it."
he also tries to treat your injuries at one point despite your stubbornness that finally shows its head again after some time--a stubbornness that only gets worse when you discover something.
because just when you think san's already cruel enough, he goes even further to really show you just how much of an asshole he really is.
the first argument after your little attempted escape happens the night they return from port cove, when you happen to see the man who accompanied you that day to scorched bay when you needed to "use the restroom".
him and someone else were assigned to keep watch on you while the rest were out doing what they do best to the new place they just arrived in, and you just so happened to see him all bruised and battered through the small crack of the door window, or at least in a recovery state where you can still see very clearly the marks made on him.
you confront san as soon he walks into the room and starts his usual undressing for the night.
"were you the one who did that? to the guy that was with me at scorched bay?" you ask, sitting at the edge of the bed.
he almost has to do a double take, the question catching him offguard but not more than the fact you're even talking to him. you usually never do.
"yeah?" he answers, more like a question in return because why are you asking.
an inaudible gasp leaves your mouth at that, the reality setting in that this is who you're really messing with.
someone capable of inflicting physical harms onto others without an ounce of regret or sympathy.
"why?" he adds, his tone starting to sound more taunting. "you have something to say about it?" his head tilts at you mockingly, his hands stopping short at the waistband of his pants.
you gulp before speaking, "i-i just don't think you should've done that."
"and why not? he's one of my men. shouldn't i discipline him if he fails to carry out an order?"
"but it wasn't his fault."
"then whose fault was it?" he tests you, mirth in his eyes and if you could, you would punch him.
"m-mine," you stutter out.
he moves closer to you, your body naturally shrinking and your throat feeling tight.
"then should i punish you instead?" he bends down to look you in the eyes but you're quick to avoid his gaze, grabbing a pillow to stand up and head for the floor at the end of the bed.
"just being with you is already enough of a punishment," you mutter to yourself but you know he hears it, if the chuckle from behind means anything.
"i'm sleeping on the floor tonight," you tell him, setting the pillow down and immediately laying flat, regretting starting the conversation and now just hoping he'll leave you to be.
surprisingly, he shrugs it off and doesn't fight you on it.
"your choice. but if the waves ever gets too much and you wanna hop in bed again, know i'll always welcome with open arms."
the way he says it makes your skin crawls, feeling more annoyed than ever and just wanting to fall asleep for the sake of it all.
"goodnight, love," he coos the same time the bed creaks from above, your only response is to let out a slight puff through your nose.
Tumblr media
you probably haven't said more than three words to san in the past couple of days, going out of your way to avoid conversations and only giving him the cold shoulder whenever he's around.
you still haven't slept on the bed since and he doesn't seem to care about it despite making it one of the rules you have to follow.
maybe he's so relaxed about it because he knows you can't do anything even if you act as tough as a nail; at the end of the night, you're still stuck in this stupid cabin with him.
on a day you're passing time the only way you can, he busts into the room earlier than usual and knocks you out of the page you're reading.
"get dressed," he demands out of thin air.
"what?"
"change into something more fitting, i'm bringing you out to meet the rest of the guys."
the book in your hands is forgotten, the mere idea of finally getting the hell out of this tiny cabin more enticing even if you're gonna have to meet a bunch of other guys probably like san.
you're just happy to catch some fresh air in what feels like forever.
"what should i change into?" you ask, watching him walk over to the top drawer as he pulls something out, turning back to extend an arm.
you look down at the fabric and see what looks like a white dress, taking it from him with slight hesitance.
you're about to ask more questions but he's already walking past you, only muttering out, "come out to the deck when you're ready." and leaving you with no choice but to follow his order.
you inspect the piece more closely after, seeing it's a white square neck midi dress and just wondering where does san even get these things from before eventually changing into it.
--
even if you don't know the ship too well, it's not hard to find where exactly san wants you to be; the noises hard to miss and coming from one direction only.
you've never gotten a proper look at the ship considering the only times you had the chance to, san's quick to rush you through it, you've never even realized just how detailed and cluttered everything is.
ropes and barrels almost everywhere and the sea smells much saltier out here, watching the way waves crashes against each other in front of your very eyes just under your feet.
when you make it out to the deck and feel the first pair of eyes on you, it's as if everyone else follows and you suddenly become the center of attention.
the once loud chitters comes to a stop the second you arrive and all you can hear is the background music, scanning the surrounding and seeing jugs of alcohol and men of all kinds standing around with smiles on their faces moments just before you arrived.
you swallow the knot in your throat and look for anything to detract the attention--a familiar face maybe, spotting san at a table a few feet away with two other men before noticing jongho just mere inches from you and alone.
you've barely spoken to jongho but he's the only other person here that you know. and frankly, you feel a lot safer with him given he has shown to have at least some sympathy towards you.
you walk quickly and sit yourself down just right across from him; such choice taking him aback before he eventually breaks the ice.
"don't feel like sitting with san?" he quirks an eyebrow.
"don't feel like ever doing anything with him, to be honest," you let slip even though it might not be the best idea to bad mouth him in front of his people, but jongho just laughs it off.
"why are they all even looking at me?" you add, evidently bothered by all the stares.
"they're curious about you. we all are."
you sigh and roll your eyes at that.
"you all want to see the poor soul he has under his grip?" you say sarcastically despite the lack of animosity and that jongho actually comes off quite genuine.
"no. he just has been talking about you a lot. nonstop. aside from me, yunho, and mingi, none of the other guys and seamen on the ship has really gotten a close look at you. san's a bit stingy."
"stingy is an understatement."
jongho snickers lowly.
"it took a lot of convincing to get him to finally let you out here. hongjoong said it isn't good to keep you in one place for too long... that you might start going crazy."
"well, hongjoong would be right. whoever he is."
"hongjoong's our captain," jongho says, nodding off to a direction you follow, unexpectedly meeting san's unamused gaze. "the one on the left of san. and then to the right would be seonghwa, our quartermaster. when hongjoong isn't around, he takes the lead."
you raise a brow, quite unfamiliar with all these pirate terms but you're learning.
"and you guys steal for a living?" you quip, relieved everyone has gone back to chit chatting and minding their own business as more music and voices fill the background.
you can see the conflicts written all over his face. from what you've known of him so far, jongho seems like a rather decent person it's almost hard to believe he's one of the pirates currently posing a threat to the citizens of wonderland.
"we don't steal because we want to, but because we have to. i know it's hard to believe but it's the truth."
"you guys surely don't seem to feel very bad about it, though..."
jongho is silent, a part of him knows that you're not entirely wrong. but also not entirely right.
"some of us manages to stay true to ourselves despite the circumstances and some loses it along the way. just all part of it, i guess."
it's almost as if he's talking to himself, the bittersweet tone in his voice and the sadden smile, his eyes kept to the table until he finally looks up to you again.
"i know it doesn't excuse his behaviors, but san's had it quite rough before we eventually took him in as an official member. always been a little fucked in the head but he's reliable and gets things done, which is why hongjoong made him the gunner. his violent nature has benefitted us more than not."
you visibly grimace at such information, or maybe it's just the mention of san himself.
"so you guys just let him run loose and do whatever he wants?" like stealing the future of an innocent girl.
jongho recognizes your anger, knowing you're in the absolute right to cry, kick, and scream about this.
"hongjoong did advocated to let you go when he found out but san said you already saw his face and mine and that it would be too dangerous to let you go. i'm sorry."
you certainly wanna cry about just being let go and you won't ever tell on them but you know it's not even worth it.
"so what do you do? i mean, everyone else seems to have a role, you must too, no?" you switch the subject.
he chuckles, a soft smile on his lips after.
"i thought you'd never ask. i'm the crew's navigator. no one knows the ins and outs of wonderland better than i do. at least no one on this ship."
"really?" you beam, the first time you ever felt true and pure excitement ever since stepping foot here. "like... you also have a map?"
he nods.
"can i... can i see it?" you ask shyly, to a genuine giggle from jongho.
"yeah, of course. i was just gonna work on it."
you watch in amazement as he turns to his side to fidget at something before pulling out the rolled up map in the palm of his hand, spreading it out on the table as your eyes go wide.
"wow," you sing, one finger tracing along the drawn islands, towns, rivers, and just about everything with names labeled on each. "this is amazing."
jongho hums along, nodding.
"sorry," you apologize, blushing lightly when you realize just how excited you might've come off. "it might sound silly but it was always my dream to make my own map of wonderland."
"is that so?"
"yeah... i've studied charts, currents, winds, coastlines, and read just about almost everything from the local library regarding the geography of wonderland. of course, nothing beats actually seeing the places for yourself. i hear each maps are always a little different. some more detailed than others. still, i think it'd be fun to create one of my own."
"you can!" he says just as elated as you. "how about... i give you some papers and pens to start with? i mean, it's a start, right?"
"that'd be awesome. it would also really give me something to do in that tiny cabin."
you're actually having such a good time with jongho as he tells you about his finding, walking you through every little thing on the map until you're both joined by the addition of yeosang and wooyoung, two other official members of the main crew.
you learn yeosang is the officer, usually in charge of giving everyone else not on the main crew their daily tasks, and then wooyoung is the cook--the brilliant mastermind behind all of the meals you consume.
the three are so much more lighthearted and easy to talk to compared to san and the other two you had the displeasure of meeting first, you almost wanna be in denial that they're even remotely on the same team.
you might've gotten a little too comfortable and carried away by the presence of the three that you have forgotten about san and completely misses his disapproving gaze the entire time.
it's only when wooyoung suddenly stops mid-sentence and gulps down nervously that you ask what's wrong.
"it's probably best you return to san. he doesn't look very happy."
you glance his direction again and can feel the hostility from the distance, the way he chugs at his drink and loudly slams it down on the table after, the sight already making you dread having to be alone with him.
maybe you should've just sat with him. but then again, he did say he wanted you to meet the guys... which you did, a couple of them at least.
you frown at wooyoung's suggestion, your expression already enough of a response that you'd rather much stay here but you don't say it, instead opting to watch san get out of his seat and laser you a glare before storming off.
you just roll your eyes in return, hoping to resume whatever conversation you were having with the guys and not have to worry about what awaits you after all this.
the rest of the night goes by and you probably feel the most relaxed you've been in a long while, only trying to enjoy the small moments and not think about what horrible things these guys are capable of in spite of actually being quite nice to talk to.
hongjoong and seonghwa shortly introduced themselves after san's departure, and the longer you're with hongjoong the more you can understand why he's the chosen captain.
something about him; the way he talks and presents himself, an aura so strong that you can feel it by just briefly locking eyes for a few seconds.
he controls the topics and knows exactly what to say to keep it going.
seonghwa is a lot more soft-spoken on the other hand, the kind to let things flow and let the people around him talk rather than take charge.
point is, you had a much better time than expected, you don't even wanna go back into that suffocating cabin if not for the night slowly coming to an end.
you bid farewell to the guys and make your way back to the cabin with a tight throat, every second closer to the door makes you wish you could turn back the other way.
you can see from the small window it's pitched black, knocking twice quietly with baited breath before just twisting the knob and finding it unlocked.
keeping the door opened while you reach for the lantern on the side, you jump the second the room lits up and you're finally able to make out san's eyebrows creasing together and with a gaze that could kill while he's sitting on the end of the bed with hands planted onto the sheet, having waited for you the entire time and not asleep like you thought he was.
"had your fun?" he speaks with a tone you can't quite read into, head lowering to the pen and parchment paper jongho had given you.
you clear your throat, shutting the door behind and setting both of it down on the free space shared with the lantern.
"yeah," you answer casually, unaware to the bubbling tension and that such carefree attitude might just be making it worse, walking past him to head for your clothes sitting on top of the drawer. "the guys were a lot more tolerable than i thought."
you mumble the same time you grab your clothes, "i'm gonna change so if you can--" your words dying in your throat midway when you barely spin around and san's already standing tall in front of you, you're literally only centimeters away from bumping into his chest.
"--go out," you finish off awkwardly, the way he has you cornered suddenly shifting the atmosphere--or maybe you just haven't noticed.
"thick-skinned of you to be acting so modest now when you were just throwing yourself at everyone earlier," he accuses, that same look of anger showing but now with something else as well. jealousy.
you retract, offended at such false claims.
"what the hell are you talking about? you wanted me to meet them and i did. that was all that happened."
"all that happened, huh? well you seemed to really enjoy yourself out there with all the attention."
you're in complete and uttter disbelief, you're not even sure what to say; only feeling smaller with his voice raising over you with such ridiculousness.
"whatever, san. think whatever you wanna think, but if you can leave for just a minute so i can finally--"
the clothes fall out of your grasp when he roughly grabs at both your wrists and cuts your words short due to the shock.
"you know what i hate more than a disobedient little bitch?" he growls lowly in your face, the goosebumps on you raising at that. "a disobedient little bitch who's also a whore."
he throws you onto the bed so fast you can barely process it, your worst fear coming to life when he crawls on top of you and traps you in between his arms.
your breathing becomes hitched and you try with your utmost strength to push him away but the effort goes to waste, his hands going to restrain your own as he pins them down onto the sheet beside your head.
and as if you haven't learned your lesson the first time, you spit right in his face again and he's expectedly pissed off about it... more than he already is.
he lets go of one of your hands to shove it under your dress to your protest, kicking with your legs and pushing with your free hand so he doesn't reach the place you're most afraid he would.
"san, please... stop," you cry, all you can do is hit his shoulder pathetically with whatever strength still left in you, but of course, he doesn't listen.
you feel his fingers sneak past your undergarment and to the very spot you've always thought only a lover should feel and see. not someone like san.
the warmness of his fingers running along your flesh has never made you feel so dirty in your life, but when you look into his eyes and see the sinister smile plastered so smugly on his lips, all you can feel is hatred.
his fingers entering you makes you shutter in disgust even if you arch your back slightly and let just the smallest moan slip, you realize in this very moment where you're powerless, the only thing that still holds some of that power are your words.
so you aim to hurt.
"i don't care. you can take my body, you can take whatever you want, but you'll never take my heart. i hate you and i always fucking will!" you shout at him, some of the smugness disappearing slowly at that.
"shut the fuck up!" he curses back, his speed picking up with his anger, but you just keep going.
"you ruined my life! i was doing just fine before you came along, and i already have someone i love! if you didn't take me, i would still be with him!"
that seems to about done it, his fingers stopping the same time his chest heaves in and out with fumes brimming under his nose.
"you think i give a fuck about that? about him? about whether you two loved each other?" he gets in your face. "you're mine now and i can do whatever i want to you."
you're just about to bite back when he roughly takes your lips in for a messy kiss and his fingers in your core goes back to pumping in and out at such a pace that has you almost squirming.
you shouldn't feel like this. you should only hate everything about this but your body has a mind of its own and you can't deny the pleasure overflowing from the work of san's fingers.
he's kissing you too roughly--biting, pulling and tugging, you have to brace your hold onto his shoulders just to keep from falling out of place.
"you act like you hate it, but you actually fucking love it, slut," he pulls from the kiss briefly to say, not allowing a response from you before crashing his lips onto yours again.
it all goes on for a while too long until you feel the walls of your vagina close in on his fingers and he finally pulls out with a plop the same time he breaks the kiss.
you feel dirty, used, and pathetic after. especially still laying in bed trying to catch your breath with your core still soaking wet, watching as san says nothing but gets up and leaves the room with a slam of the door.
Tumblr media
you haven't seen san since he stormed off two days ago after such an experience that you'd rather forget about.
every time thinking back to it, you feel disgusted with yourself for even finding the slightest pleasure and enjoyment in a moment where you shouldn't--the guilt building in your stomach whenever the scene plays out again, and all you can think of is minsoo.
it's as if you've betrayed him--letting another man touch you in ways he shouldn't be allowed to.
different people comes in and out through the day to bring you food, each of them you cannot put a name to.
it's usually at 7 p.m. where your last meal is delivered, expecting for another nameless face to show but is taken aback when you see it's jongho himself.
he has a plate of cooked fish and water on the side, greeting you with a thin smile as he steps into the room and sets the food aside.
"how's things going for you?" he asks, voice a tinge of pity already.
you've been busying yourself with the same parchment paper and pen that jongho gave you, having drawn the cardinal directions and just about almost every islands belonging to those areas that you're aware of--its existence at least.
"i'm... alive, i guess?" because you're not really living. at this point, you're merely just breathing and coping. "how about san? i haven't seen him in two days."
it's not that you care. you much rather prefer it this way, but you just wonder what else he could be doing.
"he's upset."
you scoff, genuinely surprise someone like san can even remotely feel such an emotion.
"about what?" you ask dryly because you're failing to believe it.
"he wouldn't tell us all of it, but something about you having another lover already."
you keep quiet out of incredulity, because he can kidnap you and force things against your will, but dare you say something back that holds some truth and he's like a wounded animal.
"he said he'll be coming back tomorrow," jongho informs, seeing the irritation mixed with horror that crosses your face the second you hear those words.
"listen, y/n," he continues, voice still full of that softness you know jongho to sound like, but it's similar to the first time he met you in this cabin again, almost as if he's lecturing you. "i know it sucks."
"yeah, it does suck," is all you say, at this point derived of pretty much all hopes and chances of leaving this ship.
"but if you want to raise the odds of getting out of here, you have to stay on san's good side."
just jongho saying that feels like the first slip of sunlight you've gotten in ages; the revive of hope, even if only slightly. your eyes go wide and you can only stare before blurting, "you mean it?"
he still looks hesitant but eventually nods.
"we're now heading west... we've been for a couple of days now. i'm sure you're somewhat familiar with the myths regarding the seas surrounding the west. they're bigger, more dangerous, unpredictable... especially rocky port."
you only nod and continue to let him speak.
"it's the one place the guys want to avoid, though i've been trying to convince them we should try for it. i've been studying the currents and tide surrounding the area and i think we can make it there safely if we go at certain times but they still think it's too risky. lots of pirates and sailors are known to not make it out of the area."
"my point is," he adds, shaking his head as if going off on an unrelated tangent, "you have to convince san to head to rocky port. if he's with it, he might be able to get the rest to reconsider. and if you do make it happen, i'll help you escape."
your throat closes up, too much information to process and so many questions at once, but at the same time still able to feel the thrill from just the possibility of being free.
"how exactly is something i'm still working on, but i know all of their schedules; when san goes in and out of the cabin. i'll be the one to bring you food when most convenient and when i eventually think of something."
"but how am i gonna be able to convince him?" you ask, probably the part you're most confused about.
conflict is written all over his face before he answers, "you have to win his heart. whatever you have to do, it's the only way to gain his trust."
he looks over his shoulder to the door. "i have to go. i know this is asking a lot of you in return but there's no reward without risk, and we're both gonna be taking pretty big ones, so think of it as an exchange of favor."
when you don't say anything, he excuses himself, his back facing you.
"wait," you stop, just short of his grip on the door handle. "why are you helping me?"
you can see his smile from the side, his head only slightly turned back to look at you.
"because i think you deserve to choose your own destiny, don't you also?"
and even though he phrased it like a question, it's more of a statement because he doesn't let you answer, bidding you a goodnight and walking out leaving you to digest what happened just now.
--
you don't fully grasp the meaning of jongho's words until you're left to your own devices moments later, tossing and turning in bed.
“but if you want to raise the odds of getting out of here, you have to stay on san’s good side.”
“you have to win his heart. whatever you have to do, it’s the only way to gain his trust.”
the comprehension makes your skin crawls and you feel dirty all over again, similar to the last night you saw san.
but the cold, hard truth is that this is the world you're living in now. a world that you cannot survive in unless you strip yourself bare of any ounce of dignity and self-respect you have.
that if it's the only way you can possibly make it back to your father and minsoo again, you might have to take the chance.
betray who you are and lie in the face of the person you hate the most just to have your life back in your hand, though it should've never been taken in the first place.
Tumblr media
san returns the following day just as jongho said he would; a creak of the door while you work on correcting details of the map, unmoved from your seat all day.
you look over your shoulder and merely meet his eyes but neither of you says anything before you pull away to look back down at the map.
there's a minute of silence just listening to him shuffle behind you, the small room allowing you to feel his presence not far away, glancing back as discreetly as possible to see he's unbuttoning his now white shirt.
if you have a choice, you wouldn't do it. but jongho's words ring loudly in your ears and all you can hear is the mission you're out to fulfill and the freedom that might come from it.
you take a deep breath and brace yourself for whatever's about to happen, sure enough that you've thought it through after a night of restless sleeping.
standing from your seat, you walk over to san and you can tell even he's surprise when your hands suddenly overtakes his on one of the buttons he's working through.
he glares at you, raising a brow in response.
"what?" he says coldly.
you clear your throat before speaking. "i-i just want to help you... as an apology for the other day."
you can barely look at him, afraid that he just might be able to see through you--and as much as you hate his guts, you have to admit he's attractive with very prominent features that complements the work he does.
he smirks at your answer because for someone like san, nothing strokes his ego more than thinking he's in the right; feeling your heartbeat multiply when he slowly pulls you in closer.
you thought you were ready to sacrifice anything but every inch of space closed off between you two, the doubts start creeping up if you truly are ready, given how much you actually wanna run.
"is that so?" his breath ghosts against your skin, proceeding to lift your chin up to lock eyes that has you blinking in apprehension; just the way he's staring at you sends a jump of butterflies to your stomach.
you only nod, trying to keep yourself from faltering on the spot when he goes to guide your fingers with the last three buttons, unclasping them one by one with a tension in the air that only grows when the last one comes undone.
his naked torso sits in front of you, and though you've seen it a couple times by now, you don't think you ever truly want to admire it more than right now, tracing the lines of his abs and rubbing over the bumps tenderly by your own doing.
soon, you take it upon yourself to pull the shirt off as it drops to the floor, the sight in front of you almost too delicious but wrong at the same time.
still, you have to get on his good side, staring up at him and biting at your lips like he's the only person you're ever gonna need for the rest of your life.
he's quick and fast to fulfill the look in your eyes, pulling you even closer by your arms until you're flushed against his bare chest and now trying to hide the fear despite knowing it's too late to back out now.
"how sorry are you, exactly?" he teases, eyes lowering to mock you.
"r-really sorry," you stutter out, attempting to keep the composure.
"then show me." he almost growls but it actually comes out a lot more mellow, his head dipping in for an immediate kiss that unlike any of the ones before, you don't fight it.
instead, you wrap your arms around his neck and return the kiss like you mean it. like you don't actually loathe his guts and wanna throw him overboard.
clashing your tongue along with his and continuing that even when your back hits the sheet of the bed and he's hovering over you before pulling away, a look in his eyes never so hungry and desperate in his life.
you watch as he unbuckles his pants and sees the bump protruding from his underwear, time seemingly passing by so slow and torturous you just wish for it to be over with.
and after a couple more minutes of passionately making out (at least that's what it looks like) where he undresses you in the process, he sends his fingers down the same way they were in before the last time you two were in this position.
moans and cries of pleasure escapes your lips against your will until your vision fills itself with only stars, your skin also betraying you and shuttering when he whisper words of insults into your ear.
"you look much better like this. under me where you belong."
and when he finally spreads your legs and rules over your body the only way he can--a squirm leaving you when he buries his entire length inside your cunt, the conflict swirling in your stomach reaches its height.
you've ever only imagined doing such a thing with someone you love, your heart clenching and a lone tear escaping at the fact that won't be happening anymore.
despite still having your arms around his neck and displaying no signs of resistance, you think of minsoo and your father to get through with it.
that you're doing it for a greater good; a chance. and one day, it will be worth it, even if it doesn't seem like it currently.
--
you learn what it means to really get on san's good side. that only when you throw away any ounce of respect you have for yourself, that's when you get his in return.
he's nicer to you and talks nicer to you, a sweet tone always on his tongue every time he tucks a hair behind your ear or every time he meets your eyes--staring at them so lovingly like he wasn't the one bringing out tears from them not even that long ago.
but you go with it. of course you do. stare at him right back with blinking lashes and return the same sweet words you don't even mean, all because he finally lets you out of the cabin.
not only allowing you out when he says so, but whenever you want. whenever you wanna get some fresh air or just walk around the ship, he said.
doing so has led you into the two other boys you haven't properly met up until this point--yunho and mingi, who were almost as responsible as san for your capture, and who doesn't seem to be as approachable as the others, always with a cold look on both their faces.
it just makes sense they were the ones to help san.
but on the bright side, sometimes while on the deck, you'll catch jongho coming from his cabin or already at a table, always sending you a smile and a knowing look.
though san lets you roam freely, a luxury you've still haven't earned is being able to talk to anyone.
he doesn't seem to trust you regarding that just yet, or maybe because every time you bring it up, there's still always that tinge of jealousy present similar to the first night when you finally met the other guys.
luckily, you don't have the need to talk to anyone but jongho, who does so as he said he would--sneaking an appearance in one day when it's time to eat.
it's also the one thing you told san you'd be okay with still doing in your room even if he gave you permission to go out with the rest. all so you can get the chance to speak one on one with jongho to know where exactly the plan is heading.
"how are you doing?" he asks, sitting across from you in the spare chair as you make the end of the bed your home.
to be in your position is tough. he knows this. he didn't wanna say it. tell you what you really have to do to get someone like san to even remotely look at you as a person of your own.
"it's been alright," you answer, doubting for second if it's the right one.
if you truly have been brainwashed, used to being confined down here like a prisoner all day that even being able to go out and catch some air is considered a privilege.
you should be more bitter and spiteful because in the end, no matter how high the highs are, it's still at the cost of yourself.
"i'm sorry again. for making you do this. it's... the only way i know how to get you out."
you shake your head, again with the half-baked lies you're feeding yourself, but you need the push to keep going so that the reality doesn't set in. something positive in all of this mess.
"it's fine, trust me," you tell him, as much as you're trying to tell yourself. "i'm okay. as long as we go through with it, it won't be for nothing."
because san's actually quite tender and loving after sex; his temper and need for aggression seemingly having died down after the first night and you're at least glad for that.
jongho stays silent, maybe a part of him already knows how you're feeling even if you don't say so.
"we'll be hitting up mist island tomorrow. it'll be the first place from the west. shortly after should be rocky reef. you have about four days from now to convince san. after reef, if we don't head for port after, the guys will make a detour and it'll be too late."
"also," he adds, "it's best you don't wander while we're still in the west. again, the waves are more aggressive here and it's gonna be pretty hard on the ship for the meantime."
you nod understandably.
"no chance of us flipping over or anything?" you let the joke slip as an attempt to lighten the mood.
jongho snickers lowly.
"i hope not," he replies with the same lighthearted tone. "no, but really. we'll be fine. i've advised them to take a less taxing route."
you smile at that, though the idea of the ship overturning doesn't sound too bad, especially if it takes san with it.
jongho goes on, "by the way, just so we're clear and you're not thinking why i didn't help you sooner, if there's a place that you'll have the best chance of successfully fleeing, it'll be rocky port. i heard they have one of the best systems, as well as some of the best sailors and navigators to know the sea due to having lived in such a rough area. it will be your best bet back to dune. plus, you said your father is sick?"
"yes."
"they have good medicines. plants known for curing diseases no man was able to. if you do return, it might help your father."
you've never felt happier (at least in the entirety you've been on this ship) that you might not only be free from san's grip but that there's also a chance you'll be able to help your father if he already hasn't gotten better.
"if i'm able to convince him, how would we go at it if we do get there?"
he quirks his lips slightly. "you make up some kind of excuse and i'll fight to be the one to escort you, whatever it is. from there, i'll give you all the coins you'll ever need to get someone to take you back to dune, along with any medicines you need for your father which i should be able to acquire considering we usually tour the places out of disguise beforehand."
"and if san comes looking for me?"
"he won't. i'll make sure he won't. just stay in hiding and don't even come out until the crack of dawn. our ship should be leaving by then and i'll also make sure of that. we also won't be stepping foot into any of the south seas again and if san tries, you can put your trust in me i'll do everything that doesn't happen."
you don't know whether to be impressed or scared the fact jongho seems to have thought just about everything through.
"thank you, jongho. really." your voice full of gratitude you can't express enough in words.
he smiles in response.
"no need to thank me. i'm just trying to do the right thing, i guess."
there's a few seconds where you guys just embrace the comfortable silence until jongho speaks again.
"i have to go. stay any longer and the others might start raising an eyebrow. good luck, okay? i'll talk to you soon."
you nod. "you, too. good luck."
it sounds like enough of a thorough and executable plan, right?
Tumblr media
you can tell san's in the mood based on the first few gestures he makes when he gets in bed, usually whispering into your ear and running his fingers under your shirt if he's up for it--and delivering just a short kiss to your cheek and goodnight if he isn't.
when he sends a quick peck to your cheek, you're not surprise he doesn't want to tonight.
they'll finally be landing in the west tomorrow so the guys must've had quite a hefty discussion considering he was gone for most part of the day.
"san," you call his name quietly in the night, taking it upon yourself to start a conversation and shifting on your side to meet his eyes in the darkly lit room.
"yeah?" he replies.
he looks so calm in such a setting, his face deprived of any malice and signs that tells of the actual man he is.
"we'll be landing in mist island tomorrow?" you ask with feigning innocence.
"yeah."
"i-is it okay if i go out tomorrow? for a little bit? i really wanna see the place." you put on your sweetest tone because it's a genuine question. you do.
you've always wondered what islands, towns, and cities beyond dune are like, but even more so what's beyond the south seas. you hear they're more prosperous; filled with riches and buildings you won't ever see down in the south.
even the people are different.
but when san is seemingly unfazed, his thumb going to caress one side of your face instead, you already know the answer.
"sorry, dear. can't just yet. not until we get to the north at least. you'll be able to roam more freely then."
the north. you think of how nice that sounds. finally seeing for yourself what you've always dreamed of, as if places from fairytales you've been reading since you were a child coming to life.
but for once, you wish you won't have to see it. wish that the west--that rocky port is as far as you make it.
you take a deep breath, sighing into the night. "fine."
at least when they're gone tomorrow, it'll give you time to really think through a believable enough lie that'll get san and the rest to where you need to be.
--
the spot next to you is empty when you wake up, your head slightly throbbing whether from how the ship fought the sea of the west last night, or maybe it's the new chatters and voices of the morning.
one of the biggest signs of being close to land are the presence of other people.
the event of yesterday hits you, recalling the ship should now be in mist island, you're quick to peek outside the small window of the door, only able to see crates and maybe the heads of a few passersby.
it doesn't hurt to just get a glance, right? it's the least san should allow you to do if he isn't gonna let you out.
you twist the knob of the door, pushing it forward only to come face first with one of san's men standing outside. of course.
but the smell... it's fresher, your nose sniffing the air like a fish fresh out of water and the cold that grazes your skin along with a breeze is different.
you're not very used to such weather and condition because you grew up in the south where it was basically summer all year long--the reason why most of the places there are named either after the sun or the heat.
"you can't be out here," he tells you sternly that you almost wanna roll your eyes to.
"i know. i just wanna look for a bit."
you quickly scan the area (at least the parts you can see) with awe, noticing along the way the light fog that seems to grace the place permanently and sticking to its name of mist island.
the buildings isn't rundown or made of bamboo and whatever woods they could find, and though it doesn't hold the familiarity of dune and the south seas with townsfolk running all over the place, citizens still populates the sidewalks and talk to each other... in a more calm and tame manner.
no running or fooling around, a certain grace in even the way they stand, but especially in the way they dress.
no clothes that looks worned or unwashed, the fabrics clean and polished to the eyes.
"ma'am?" he breaks your train of thoughts, to which you really roll your eyes in return this time.
"i know."
you give the place one last admiration before stepping back inside the cabin of doom, jongho's words playing in your head.
"you have about four days from now to convince san. after reef, if we don’t head for port after, the guys will make a detour and it’ll be too late.”
you only have three more days. tonight, they will leave for reef and you're gonna need to strike as soon as possible--pacing around the room to think of anything you can possibly use against san.
he's an asshole, but he isn't stupid.
and after a few hours of going in circle, you think it just might work.
“they have good medicines. plants known for curing diseases no man was able to. if you do return, it might help your father.”
--
it's the next night after mist island and before they can even reach rocky reef. you figure the time is as good as now, giving san at least two days to think it through instead of stalling and only having one where he could possibly rush the decision.
his chest is pressed up against your back with his hard-on rubbing at your thighs, his fingers slowly sneaking under your shirt.
he's more likely to be in the mood on days where he does very little and has more energy reserved at the end of the night. you also made sure to be extra sweet to him today since you planned this out, but now going on to stop his hand short of reaching your breast.
"san," you call, similar to the other night.
"what?" he answers boredly, at this point already accustomed to you only calling his name when you need something, which you admit you're guilty of.
you turn to face him, holding your breath before spewing the first few words of the lie you've been brewing, having thought out every possible scenarios and responses ahead of time.
"i'm not feeling too well."
not only did you make sure you were on your best behaviors today, but you also made sure to act sick whenever he was around--coughing, sighing from time to time, lower energy, and maybe be a bit dramatic so he'll notice.
it doesn't seem like he did, or maybe he just doesn't care. but he won't have any reasons to doubt if you bring it up.
"i think it may be that i'm not used to the cold or maybe i caught something, i'm not sure," you add onto the lie when he doesn't say anything, only slightly raising a brow in response.
"and how long have you been feeling like this?"
"starting yesterday. i thought i was just feeling a little under the weather and it'd go away but it seems to have gotten worse today."
you wait in anticipation, not wanting to jump ahead of yourself. it's better you be patient and calculate the responses when the timing is right, but the way he looks just permanently stuck in a trance of thinking is slowly starting to tick you off.
"it shouldn't be too bad. it'll probably go away after a few days, and if not, we're reaching reef tomorrow and can get you something there."
well, he sure does have a way to disappoint.
"but what if it doesn't?" your pitch grows higher, even turning your lips downward for a pout. "c-can we go to rocky port after reef?"
you have expected the confusion to cross san and it's exactly what happens. but you also know that as much as san claims to give a shit about you, that reason alone isn't gonna be enough to move him.
"plus, wouldn't it also be good for you guys to go there? skipping an entire island means losing an entire island's worth of coins, goods... they also have advanced medicines and remedies. you guys can take some for the journey."
you can't tell if it's annoyance crossing him or he's just in deep thoughts trying to digest your words and weighing all the pros and cons of it.
"i'll think about it," he finally says after some time, much to your relief and joy.
it's a good start. not a definitive answer but at least he isn't dismissing the idea entirely.
"i'll have to talk it over with hongjoong and the rest first," he adds, to a nod from you and a smile he doesn't fully see in the dark. "if you're not feeling well, then get some rest . i'll talk to you in the morning."
he places a kiss to your forehead before pulling back to your blinking eyes.
"goodnight, san," you coo.
"goodnight."
--
you wake up a couple times throughout the night due to the harsher ripple of water, most of them to san staring back and attempting to calm you to sleep again.
for your final wake, he takes you into his arms and cradles you, resting his chin on top of your head that's buried into his chest as you close your eyes and let the drowsiness take over.
it's almost weird how safe you can feel in the presence of him in a situation like this.
--
the arrival to rocky reef is no different than before; only thing different is the time much later in the afternoon, allowing for you to spend some time with san, proceeding to ask him briefly before he leaves if you can take a look at the place from where you are.
he says to not make it too long, taking his official leave and sending one of his men outside the door again in replacement.
and if you think the people and buildings in mist island were nice, rocky reef is even nicer. it's plausible that at this point, the further you head north, the more sophisticated it will only get.
the entire time he's gone, you keep your head straight so you don't lose focus on your initial goal--that tonight, san has to make the decision or else it'll be too late.
"i got these for you," he says, handing you a bottle of pills after returning from the long day, his black attire still stuck to his skin. "you feeling any better?"
you shake your head, quite desperate at this point. you really need it to work or else you'd have to face jongho with the news of failure.
"not really," you answer, voice timid and sick to the best of your ability.
he doesn't say anything while he changes out of his shirt, facing you again when it's off--a look on him like something dying to leave his throat.
"i talked to hongjoong and the rest."
you keep calm and let him talk even if you can hear your own heartbeat in your ears.
"they said it'd be good to give it a try. rocky port... jongho's also talked about it before and knows a way around it."
"r-really?" your heartbeat seems to get louder, but this time out of relief and an excitement different from any before.
"yeah," he confirms, the smile on him morphing into a smirk at the state of you. "a bit esctatic, aren't you?"
you gulp. "well, yeah. i mean, i-i wasn't sure if it was gonna happen at all."
"it's gonna happen, and you have me to thank for."
Tumblr media
the next two days are a mix of anxiety and thrill, now that you've set the course, all there's left is to execute it.
jongho shared a knowing nod just the other day when you passed by the deck, casually and naturally starting a conversation with you before quietly slipping a note that you opened only when you were alone.
i'm glad you followed through. i appreciate it. i haven't been bringing in foods because i want to avoid any attention and suspicions for when we do eventually arrive at port. i hope you're taking care of yourself in the midst of all of this. when we're there, i'll give you the sign and just follow my lead - jongho
you still carry on your performance of being unwell so san knows whatever he got you from mist island didn't work; the pretentious state serving you more benefits than you would've thought.
other than kissing you a good morning and good night and cuddling you from behind during sleep, he doesn't initiate any other forms of intimacy, you honestly can't believe you haven't put up the act sooner.
but even if he does, you console in the hope that in just a day, you'll be free from his grip forever; that you'll do anything in exchange for freedom even if that's spending another night with san, body tangled and having to catch your breath under him.
everyone has been warned to keep off the deck aside from jongho who knows the route more than anyone, so if san isn't stuck to the bed flipping through pages of whatever he's reading, he's sniffing the hair down your neck and taking interest in the progress you've made on the 'map' so far.
--
it's the most restless night of sleep you've ever gotten, having to reframe from tossing and turning due to your back being practically glued to san's chest, but you still stare into the darkness with a heavy heart.
everything you and jongho did is for this very moment. a part of you thrilled, of course, but another is also filled with doubts with just the smallest possibility of it going wrong.
what would san do to you if he found out? if he caught you in the midst of the plan and realized everything that has been going on. what would he do to jongho?
and exactly what sign is jongho gonna use? what if you miss it? your mind races with uncertainty, scaring yourself into sleep because you wouldn't want san to suspect why you're still up and about and with a heartbeat that's about to burst.
the morning after san leaves as he usually does, you pace around the room biting your nails in apprehension, eventually deciding to fold the map you've been working on the smallest you possibly can and shoving it into the pocket of your pants.
it's the only thing in this room worth bringing if you have to make a run for it now.
the voices outside seems to only get louder the more hours go by, and just when you're thinking when jongho's gonna give you any sort of sign, the knock at the door takes your breath away.
it's jongho, his expression neutral and eyes skimming past your shoulders into the room before uttering a "come with me".
you follow behind him to the rest of them on the deck, all their heads turning at once, but you especially don't miss san's--a rather unamused look on his face that makes you swallow the knot in your throat.
"i told you, i can take her myself," san says, glaring straight at jongho.
"no. hongjoong and the rest need you. it's best you stay here. we'll be back before you even know it," jongho assures, the way he talks full of confidence and you could almost believe him.
san fumes, annoyance written all over him, but before he can object again, seonghwa beats him to it.
"jongho's right. it's best he takes her. he knows the place better, and plus, we'll need you here in case anything happens."
you watch san struggle with himself, a word on the tip of his tongue not coming out and sighing in irritation until he eventually gives in.
"fine. but no later than evening, or else i'll come to scrounge these ground myself."
a calm smile rest at jongho's lips, his body bending forward to bow slightly. "of course."
as you follow jongho off the ship, you sneak a brief glance at san because if everything goes as planned, it'll hopefully be the last time you see him.
"what did you tell them?" you ask, when at a safe enough distance from the watchful eyes of the others.
"that it's best you go see a doctor," he explains.
"and where are we going exactly?"
"somewhere far enough from here," is all he says. you don't question him or even have the time to admire the scenery, your mind too entirely occupied by a single goal.
you just keep walking, not sure for how long but when jongho finally stops for the first time, your know your legs are gonna be sore tomorrow.
"here," he says, taking off the pouch that has been sitting around his waist the entire time and handing it to you. "it has all the coins you need to get someone to take you back and extra as well for anything else. i also dropped by the pharmacy as soon as we arrived and got what i could."
you're speechless, staring at the pouch a little too long. the moment bittersweet like saying goodbye to a lifelong friend.
"thank you, jongho," you tell him the same time you take the pouch, throwing it over your head and onto your shoulder like a crossbody bag. "i don't know how to thank you enough."
"there's no need. i already know, trust me," he comforts you with a smile. "you remember what i said, right?"
you nod, repeating the words he said to you last time, "stay in hiding and don’t even come out until the crack of dawn."
"good. i'll be on my way now."
you're surprise when his back is already to you and feet about to start walking away, your voice raising to stop him for one last time.
"jongho..."
he stops in place and turns to you only halfway, "yeah?"
"how are you gonna deal with it when san finds out?"
he smiles and proceeds to tell you calmly, "don't worry. i have my ways. good luck, y/n."
you take a short breath, choosing to believe in him.
"you, too. good luck, jongho."
Tumblr media
6 months later
at the time, you weren't sure if it was gonna work; the chances of it all crashing down higher than not... but it did.
you stayed in hiding on a hungry stomach and barely any sleep even past the crack of dawn, the ship probably already gone for hours by the time you finally peeked around the corner, each steps bolder and closer to the dock to confirm the departure of the ship that filled your head with mostly negative memories.
from then, with the money jongho had given you, you were able to get someone to take you back to dune--the look on your father's face when you returned as vivid as the day it happened, as if you came back from the dead.
it's the same look minsoo and a few other townsfolk gave you, none of them able to accurately explain your disappearance; only that it happened the same day the pirates raided.
some thought you were dead, or worse--sold off somewhere, because there was no way a girl like you would be able to survive out in the seas with a group of thieves and possibly murderers.
they all considered your return a miracle, and so did you--the first couple of days bombarded with questions of your exact whereabouts and you remember not even knowing where to start.
you remember still processing everything and mourning for the life you thought you had lost; as if given another chance at it again.
everyone you told asked if you saw the faces of the pirates that took you, but you simply lied and said you didn't. you just think everything is better left in the past, not having to dwell on it or to want some kind of retribution for what happened.
you feel that somewhat and somehow, jongho must've known this; the fact you wouldn't rat them out.
but the event gave you a new outlook on life, how you used to want to get out of such a small place but now you have no other desire but to stay here with the people you love for as long as possible.
it taught you to be grateful for what you have because in any given second, those things could be taken away.
minsoo had been caring for your father during the time you were gone, and with the remedies and medicines jongho gave you, your father was able to recover within just a matter of days.
now, you've gone back to the routine of tending crops and animals with your father to make ends meet and you wouldn't trade it for the world--life seemingly back to just as it was before. safe and secure.
you spent the first two months in paranoia, afraid every single day that just by chance, jongho would break his promise or knowing how san is, he'd find a way back somehow.
only until you realized you were wasting more time worrying than living life did you learn to give it up. if he wanted to find you, he would've already.
but just because he wasn't next to you anymore didn't mean he still didn't hold some sort of power over you, ever since sleeping with him and doing things only lovers did, you no longer wish to do any of those with minsoo.
even if you hold great feelings for minsoo--feelings you can't ever hold for san, you can't help but to think of him at any thoughts of intimacy.
there isn't a single thing you're unable to talk about with minsoo, the boy the least judgmental person you know, but you won't ever tell him what you had to give up in order to come back to him.
--
the view from atop of the hill is the same as you remember, a few months ago your breath taken away when you finally saw it again for the first time in a while.
ever since, you and minsoo has been making it more of a habit to show--even more than before.
when you look out far enough, you can still picture all the other islands, towns, and settlements--most of them you've actually been to yourself. but now, only the mere idea of it sounds good.
you like being here, exactly where you are.
"so, you ever think of finishing the map?" minsoo would always ask, and you'd always tell him 'maybe'.
he thinks it's impressive but you wish he had seen jongho's work. sometimes, you get the urge to tell him about jongho and how much he helped you. but again, it's all things you wanna leave behind.
on the way home, you pick up a couple groceries to make soup for your father, learning new recipes a hobby of yours lately on top of picking up new books.
you've adapted to the routine even if it's repetitive, making sure your father eats before sending him off to bed so you can occupy yourself with whatever book you managed to find from the library this week for the next hour before calling it a night.
you're just about to sip on your tea when the knock at the door at such an odd hour takes your attention, placing the book down on the nearby table immediately and getting up from the seat.
if it's not minsoo, you don't know who else. unless one of the neighbors wanna complain again.
you fling the door open, a snarky remark already slipping because you're so sure it's minsoo. "why are you--"
but all you need for confirmation it's not him and that life really is so cruel and unfair, is for you to come face first with that stupid tattoo that is every reminder of the hell you thought you were free from.
that black ink on his chest in the shape of an ‘a’ and a circle you wanna scrape off just as much as the equally stupid smirk on his face.
"miss me, princess?"

Today Is Where Your Book Begins (Chapter I)
With the final chapter having concluded, the entirety of Teyvat has come to realize that everything in their life has been one massive storybook. Now they have broken free from their predetermined endings and wish to write their own story. While some remain content with their lives, others recall the Reader of their story offering them many a helping hand in the past, and wish for them to witness their future.
Content Warning(s): An Attempt was Made to Guess Genshin Impact's Ending as of Version 5.3.
Notes: SAGAU, GN!Reader, Aether!Traveler, Lumine!Sibling
Word Count: 1k

---------------------------------------------------------
Genshin Impact's story is over.
...Well to be more precise, the Teyvat arc of Genshin Impact's story is over.
The Traveler, Aether, was finally able to reunite with their sibling, Lumine; and after a long heart-to-heart conversation, they were able to hug it out in the end. To be honest, it left you a bit teary-eyed.
Now, nearly all of the playable (and yet-to-be-released) characters were gathered in an undisclosed location with Aether, Lumine, and Paimon taking center stage.
The crowd was cheering, whooping, and hollering. They praised the Traveler for all of his deeds, for he had become their hero from another world. He had spared them all from their predetermined fate.
Soon enough, a 'Speech! Speech! Speech!' chant began to grow from the crowd. You couldn't help yourself but join along with the chant as well. Aether could only chuckle and scratch the back of his head, a subtle blush forming on his cheeks. Eventually, he urged the crowd to quiet down and began to give an endearing speech.
The speech was truly one of the best things that the Genshin writing team had ever conjured up, and that was saying something! It involved a lot of heart-touching tributes, nostalgic memories, and kindhearted thanks to many of their friends.
Aether thanked the people from the eight nations for accepting them into their capital city. He thanked the Archons for helping them learn more about Teyvat as a whole. He thanked Paimon for being the best guide in the whole world. He thanked Lumine for finally coming back to him.
"...And thank you, Reader from Beyond the Stars, for bestowing upon me the strength needed to complete my journey. I hope that fate allows us to meet in the future."
...
...?
'Reader from Beyond the Stars?' you questioned yourself. 'Are they talking about me? I don't know anyone else who would fit that description.'
As the game let you gain control of your character and gave you the rewards for completing the Archon Quest, more thoughts continued to rummage in your mind. This chaotic mess that was your brain continued to clutter your mind until only a single thought was left more prominent than the rest.
...
'Holy shit Genshin just made me canon.'
...
...
...
'Probably one of my greatest achievements to be honest.'
Looking at the time, you see that it's approaching midnight. Given that your day tomorrow is packed to the brim with various tasks and activities, you decide to log off and get some sleep.
"Alright, Genshin," you spoke to your computer with a fond gaze. "It was fun while it lasted. Y'all have fun without me."
You exited the game, closed the launcher, and shut off your computer.
---------------------------------------------------------
"You don't know what you have until it's gone."
Aether has heard this quote many times before, but he's never liked it that much. He's always known what he's had:
Lumine.
Lumine is everything to Aether just as Aether is to Lumine. That's how it has always been throughout their lives. They were inseparable up until their encounter with the Unknown God. How can you not know something inseparable from you?
It wasn't until recently that Aether heard another version of this quote that seemed to align with his perspective better.
"Appreciate what you have before time makes you appreciate what you had."
500 years had come and gone before the two siblings were able to reunite again. They are always constantly worried for each other, that something fatal might happen to them, permanently separating the two forever.
But they don't need to worry about that anymore. They are finally back together.
All thanks to Paimon. All thanks to the seven Archons. All thanks to their many friends across Teyvat.
...
All thanks to their one friend not from Teyvat.
The Reader from Beyond the Stars.
Although Aether was aware of them since that fated day on the beach underneath Stormbearer Point, he was powerless to push them away without his former strength.
At first, he was afraid. He could not control any part of his body. Not when he was only a puppet in the eyes of this being.
He hated not being in control. It reminded him of what it felt like to be weak.
Next, he became curious, the being didn't seem to wish him harm. Instead, it appeared as if the being was wishing him to succeed. Slowly but steadily, the being helped him regain his former strength. All the while not asking for anything in return.
'What could they possibly want from me?' Aether pondered.
Then, he became content. Eventually, he began to learn the being's tendencies when fighting and what they wanted to expect out of him. They became two minds in one body, flawlessly traversing the environment and slaying any opponents that stood in their path.
This feeling of always knowing somebody's got your back. Somebody who is on your power level and can match your fighting prowess.
...They haven't had this feeling since they lost Lumine.
Then, he understood. Teyvat is a storybook. The ley lines are the words on the page. The people are characters. Their destinies are just endings written down by the Primordial One, the Author. They have never had a choice in their lifetime. Everything has followed according to the words on the pages time and time again.
This being, the one who has been with them since the beginning of their journey, is a Reader.
A Reader who wishes to change the storybook so that its ending is incomplete. That way, the people within the book will be able to write as many pages of their own destiny as they want until they sign off on their own ending.
When Alice first told them this, he and Paimon were more shocked than they had ever been before. This was the secret that the Hexenzirkel had been secretly guarding throughout their entire existence?
It was honestly hard to believe.
Nevertheless, he is extremely thankful to the Reader for helping him throughout his journey. Just as he is towards Paimon and their friends across Teyvat.
In all honesty, words may not be enough to describe how thankful he is. Paimon and all of his friends can probably see that.
So when he decided to thank the Reader from Beyond the Stars during his speech, knowing that they were present.
"I hope that fate allows us to meet in the future."
He absolutely meant it when he said that.
They deserve to be rewarded for their hard work; And by the Archons is he going to find a way meet them.
---------------------------------------------------------
Author's Notes: Ta-da! A new series has arrived!
I hope that the way I've portrayed Teyvat was easy to understand, it's unlike anything that's been written in the SAGAU fandom to my knowledge.
I'll be going back through this over the next couple of days for any errors or misspellings I may have written. Probably gonna be a bunch of POV mistakes. But otherwise, I hope you enjoy the first chapter of this new series!

Horny asks or som'n som'n I saw earlier and just, my thoughts went sideways earlier.
So som'n som'n a) vampires when they yawn do it like snakes where their fangs come out and stuff
Som'n som'n b) vampires who need extra salt in the winter, cause good vamplings that don't hunt humans, can gorge on animals they find all they want and desperately need more salt intake. What better substitute then salt or cum. Their body would happily, and kinda really needs it anyways, absorb it from any possible source.
C) little fat gorged vamplings all too happy to be dicked/pussied down and suck off anyone the little bloody sluts.
D( no I don't know where I was going with this, just woke up from a nap but enjoy that idea. 🙂‍↕️
Reading this was like getting punched in a boxing match but in like a really good way. Like Wham. But also wham ! And it kept getting better. About to CoD and 141 ur idea hottie nonny 🙏 this was so fun to write up omg it just got longer and longer. I want more.
I wrote this for the entirety of the last basketball game. Quick and unedited.
18+ smut at the end.
Imagine like, a world where Vampires are integrated-ish, vampires make up about so about 3-5% of the pop. (250-300 million), more than enough that they become a regular part of society. (pretend all the legal/cultural stuff solves itself mostly womp womp)
In this world, attack dog vampires are favored. Vampires utilized for military, policing, PMCs, security. Vamps have other jobs in the world of course, the notable ones include being paid universal blood donors (this is an idea I've been obsessed with since I've discovered vampires as a kid but idk how to explain my reasoning. Like you only get turned vampy with bite and blood, but blood alone is good), sex workers who know their niche, dangerous/high risk jobs, and an all-vampire UFC type fighting ring where fights are crazy and so cool.
Important note, biting & the biting vampire's blood turns people. Not just a bite. It takes both.
Anyway, back to our boys. Price, who's as human as they come ("booooo Hat whyyy" shhhhhhh). He's been in long enough to have seen his fair share of Vamps. They get treated pretty rough in the military, blood lust can become an issue if they don't train 'em hard and keep 'em on a leash.
Vampire Ghost who got turned by Roba. (Roba didn't know what he created. Thought he killed Ghost, turns out he made a vampire. Something something Ghost as Roba's spawn eats at Ghost for years). Ghost comes out blood fuckin' thirsty and raging. Kills Roba and everyone. He gorges for days on the bodies in his wake before Price finds him. Price helps him fix it as best he can. But Ghost's days on fresh blood in his rage is near irreversible. He can live on animals, needs human blood to thrive. Price let's Ghost use what he needs. Ghost is near toxicly dependent on Price for emotional, physical, and sexual stability. It's a dangerous relationship. Price knows that. But no one's denying that Ghost, flaring his fangs like a damn demon, mask cut or modified so that when it happens it works, is a scary, terrifying fucking beast in the field.
Vampire Gaz who grew up a natural born vampire. His family is ancient. Well known family, renowned for their service and deeds to humanity, and vampires. He knows how to take care of himself. Knows what animals are his favorite. He's a balancing force on the 141. He has his moments, like any vamp, but Price knows that a good meal normally calms him down. Or a good fuck. Gaz'll take both. Flares his fangs when he's feeling threatened, but grew up with the vampire culture to know, when how, and what it means. (Unlike Ghost, who's just a scary, biting dog)
Human Soap (I'm sorry I couldn't help myself) who grew up around enough vamps to not be worried about it in the slightest. Joining the military only exposed him more. And as he understands it, it's only right to let your vampire brother in arms suck your cock to make sure he's okay in the winter. (*Cough* Whore.)
Then he gets the invitation from the Captain. And joining the 141, full of the most elite vampires in the world, is a crazy time. These bastards are fun. They snarl at the enemy when shit hits the fan. Gaz's lip twitches when Soap annoys him, exposing his left fang. They fight damn fuckin' good.
And at this point, Ghost has chilled tf out and leads his unit well. But Soap notices the tension after missions. Soap notices when Ghost disappears for a night or three with Price. Soap knows, eventually, what it means. (Price either hides the bites well, or Ghost isn't biting his neck. (thighbitesthighbitesthighbites).)
As time passes, the vamps do get protective of their humans on the 141. Gaz does not miss the opportunity to explain that it's an instinct: protect your humans because they're your source of life.
And Gaz is protective at worst. A little defensive, but he knows how to control it, what it is. Knows that when he exposes his fangs at Alejandro (and Ale does it back) there's no hard feelings, it's just posturing, just making sure Ale knows that Price and Soap are his.
Price lets it go. Soap adores and teases the affection from Gaz.
Ghost, on the other hand, doesn't know better, well logically he knows, but damn if logic isn't stronger than his blood instinct. Damn if it isn't Price who keeps him fucking alive so any threat to Price is a direct threat to himself. (But also hnnnggg ghostprice)
And then, eventually of course, Johnny happens. In this universe, after an event like Alone in Las Almas, Soap and Ghost are exhausted. Ghost hasn't seen Price in at least 2 weeks, maybe more, he's itching for blood, for something. Soap's bleeding wound doesn't help at all. Ghost can smell him the entire truck ride. Hear his heart hammering to keep up. Can see how much calmer and dazed Soap is and something in him screams prey.
He can't, he won't. But Soap knows, and Soap might not understand it but he'll be damned if his lieutenant is suffering and holding on by a thread. He lets Ghost patch up his arm. Lets him lead and lead and take back the Vaqueros (or something) (haha slowburn). And when it's over. When they get someplace truly safe. When Ghost begins to retreat but Price has shit to take care of and paperwork to do before they meet with Kate later...
So Soap follows, and pesters. He's rough on Ghost, scolding for not taking care of himself.
Ghost is quiet, half flaring fangs just to warn Soap to fuck off.
But Soap won't. Of course not. But Ghost isn't going to drink Soap's blood. He won't. Refuses.
That's how John "Soap (whore)" MacTavish ends up braced against a wall getting his cocked milked for all it's worth.
He's come three times already, just Ghost's mouth around him, wet and hot. He's shaking, crying, whining, begging Ghost just to fuck him. To fill him. To finish this.
Ghost's only reply is lick from the base of Soap's cock to swirl at the tip. He knows his fourth orgasm is on its way, one thigh lifted on Ghosts shoulder. And when he shatters, not an ounce left to give, balls sucked dry, Ghost lets him collapse into his arms.
Ghost carries him to his own quarters. Lays him in bed. And holds the quivering, shaking, crying Scotsman in his arms. He can't offer much warmth, doesn't know how, doesn't know that Soap wants to hear they're both okay. That he's better. That Soap is an angel and more than Ghost deserves. How could he?
...
Soap wakes to an empty bed. But the nightstand holds a note from Price, just a "thank you" scribbled quick, and his favorite alcohol, the expensive kind.
...

Tumblr media
"I am not getting drunk today" you said, putting your foot down. "I can take tipsy, but not drunk" your friend laughed at your comment but nodded in agreement, both of you acknowledging the fact that you had to calm yourselves down now that exams season approached. "It's just a small get together either way" your friend replied, shrugging. your clothes scattered across your clean room, an off-putting contrast you couldn't avoid. "You know a 'small get together' usually means at least 30 people" you applied lipstick in front of your closet mirror as you observed your friend through it. "He's here" your friend whispered as you entered the living room of the dorm room heavily decorated with alcohol and LED lights. She needn't say who she was referring to, for the name sounded forbidden yet that's what made it so enticing. grabbing yourself a drink and glancing around the room, you realized it really was a rather small group. it seemed comprised of around 20 people, the girl to boy ratio very balanced. if you didn't know better, you'd say this was planned. the first sip of alcohol touched your tongue and you swallowed happily, moving slowly to the rhythm of the music along with your friend. "Will you hate me if i leave you for a second?" she asked, lips close to your ear in nervous secrecy. you merely looked at her brown doe eyes and smiled, the best answer you could give her. You were both in college for more than grades - you were there for the full experience. the regrets, the bodies, the hands, the flirting, the waking up with a headache - it was all part of this phenomenal journey that lasted around 3 years, and you'd enjoy every single one of them. so as she left to go talk to someone, you knew you'd be fine. Of course you would, because as if he was waiting, Charles approached you, all strong perfume smell and smug attitude approaching you. "Didn't know you were coming" his eyes look down at you as he remains close but without touching you, daring you to make the first move. "Me neither, or I wouldn't have come" you spat, eyes shotting up at his, expression unchanging and unaffected, almost please with the reply. cocking his head to the side he brought his hand to your chin, stroking it softly yet teasingly. "You were never good at that when it comes to me" he said, clinking his plastic cup against yours, mocking you in a frustrating yet attractive way. you we're supposed to be having fun, fucking around and getting to know how other bodies fit in your bed, yet for the entirety of this year Charles Leclerc had been the one fulfilling that duty. It frustrated you, how you were so addicted to how he felt and made you feel, how the two of you had more than chemistry, creating friction during lectures and letting it all out during the night.
You weren’t exclusive, nor did you discuss feelings – something the both of you appreciated, since this back and forth between you two was pleasurable enough and it had absolutely zero strings attached. Breathing in deeply, you decided to simply strike him back the way you two enjoyed “what can I say, I’m a good actress.”
He exhaled through his nose with a smile that recognized your humor and your momentary win, a ‘touché’ leaving his lips in perfect French, attractive enough to make you take another sip of your drink in order to focus on something else.
Minutes pass with the music blasting and you and Charles going back and forth between dancing and teasing each other, your mutual attraction clear to everyone around. Yet, after a while, the volume lowered as someone announce “truth or dare! Everyone gather in a circle on the floor please!”
Everyone complied – easily so, given the fact that there weren’t that many people in the room, making it extra personal and giving everyone a chance to talk and meet each other, something you didn’t particularly do. After around 2 minutes, everyone sat enthusiastically, talking to each other with slightly lightheaded giddiness that only came after the right amount of drinks. To your left sat your best friend, side eyeing you disapprovingly at the person to your right – Charles. “Way to meet new people” she said, ironically. Pretending to be mad wasn’t her forte, as she laughed slightly at your predictableness and you shrugged, “c’est la vie!”  “And now you’re speak French?”
The host – a beautiful girl with the most amazing curly hair and prettiest eyes you’d ever seen, sat down and clapped her hands, an “alright!” coming out of her exhale. “We will spin this bottle twice: first chooses truth or dare, second gives the truth or dare. Be interesting, please!” she explained, causing everyone to laugh excitedly.
The bottle spun, landing on a boy who you were sure had had a thing for your friend for the longest time. “Dare” he decided as the bottle spun once again, landing on Charles. “I dare you to text ‘I miss you’ to the 6th person in your contacts” he said smuggishly. Everyone ‘oooh’ed as the boy grabbed his phone and searched for said contact. “Fuck-“ he exhaled, frustrated, “it’s my ex.” Charles merely laughed as he said “those are the rules!” nonchalantly placing a hand on your upper thigh without even a glance. Before you could ask, the boy’s voice exclaimed “done!” as he showcased his screen to everyone in a circle, the hand on your thigh disappearing as fast as it arrived.
A couple of rounds went by, you asking one person about their shittiest sexual experience and more drinks being poured as people kissed each other after being dared to, when, around the 9th time, the bottle landed on the dark brown eyed boy you and your friend always found adorable. His name was Oscar, and he usually kept to himself, coming to these get togethers and hanging out with his own friends shyly, occasionally smoking but never getting too drunk or too high. “Truth” he said, his voice deep and sweet like a caress, contrasting with the way he fidgeted nervously in his seat. For the second time, the bottle landed on Charles, who rubbed is hand in a mockingly villainous way. “Oscar… Who in this circle have you had fantasies about?”
Oscar instantaneously blushes, hand running through his hair nervously with a shy smile across his face, revealing an adorable set of teeth that made you smile as well. “Fuck’s sake…” he exhaled softly, before downing his drink quickly in order to provide him with some confidence to reply. “I’m gonna regret this” he repeats, everyone jokingly complaining about the suspense he was creating. “I’m sorry in advance, Charles” he exclaims, before his arm lifts towards you and your eyes cross. Still bushing but with a darker expression, almost as if reviewing some thoughts he had, his gaze pierced yours making you feel as if he could show you his own thoughts. Everyone ‘oooo’ed once again, clapping and drinking, despite Charles’ body tensing slightly as he said “sorry for what?”
Oscar merely shrugged, “for anything”, an apologetic smile showing up, one you couldn’t ignore.
The game lasted only a few more rounds until the small crowd distracted themselves with each other, getting up to get more drinks and not returning due to slightly drunk forgetfulness. However, even that small amount of time was enough to feel the palpable tension whenever Oscar’s eyes crossed yours, a quick glance away and joke throwing making you almost believe like you had imagined everything. His nonchalant persona combined with the knowledge that he had thought of you in other contexts drew you in, the same way your instant shyness and inability to look away only intensified his desires.
The boy next to you, however, was tenser than you had ever seen him, despite his great attempts at hiding it. Even before you could confront him about it, Charles’ excused himself, claiming that he had an exam first thing in the morning. Eyebrows furrowed, you knew that wasn’t true, but he merely kissed your cheek goodbye and closed the door behind you.
You were frustrated. In more ways than one, your body still very much coherent to take things lightly and carefree. Your leg shook up and down nervously as your best friend sat next to you in a couch, talking to an attractive girl she had her eyes on for a while. Tapping her shoulder lightly, you motioned the ‘gonna smoke’ sign with your hands, to which she smiled in recognition.
Opening the closest window to the balcony that oversaw the city, cold air hitting your lungs, you let your back hit the wall and let out a much needed breath. Grabbing a cigarette, you placed it between your lips as you searched for your lighter, the closeness of the relief imminent in your veins. The technicolor lights shone bright, cars moving like fireflies dancing to the rhythm of the song.
It was white noise that calmed you, the muffled sound of the music restarting in the house as you took more drags of your cigarette. You were so immersed in the sheer act, as if it was a meditation technique, that you barely noticed the light brown haired boy opening and closing the window, placing himself next to you, with a respectable distance between your bodies.
“Have some light?” he asked, and you jumped at the sound of his voice, the realization he was there. You nodded and handed him your lighter, and he thanked you as he lit up a perfectly wrapped blunt. “Sorry, by the way” he exhaled, along with the smoke that got out of his mouth, eyes roaming through the landscape in front.
“No problem, I get startled easily” you replied, admiring his side profile. His features were both hard and soft, eyes shining brightly in such a relaxed expression it mesmerized you, the way he let out a soft chuckle at your response. “I’m not apologizing for that,” he started, filling his lungs once again. “I’m apologizing for earlier.”
This time, he turned his head towards you, and you noticed his flushed cheeks, slight embarrassment still showing even as his body and mind relaxed. “For saying you fantasize about me or for saying sorry to Charles?” you asked, daringly. It had offended you, hurt you, even, that he had apologized to Charles as if the guy owned you, as if that answer needed to pass some sort of approval from him before becoming valid.
Oscar merely shrugged, “both, I suppose.” His eyes seemed a bit sleepier already as they rather shamelessly roamed your body, followed by his head resting against the wall as he looked up. You felt the tension, electrifying both your bodies already, shivers invading your body – maybe from the cold, maybe from the sheer presence of his indifferent frame.
“Was it true?” the question hung the air for a few seconds after it left your lips, your cigarette now almost over. “Depends on if you want it to be true or not,” a dazed giggle mixed between his words.
“I wouldn’t be asking if I didn’t” you crossed your arms in front of your chest after putting out your cigarette in the ashtray next to the balcony. His gaze turned to yours, lowering towards your chest before moving back to your eyes. “The game is called truth or dare for a reason” he answered, leaning sideways against the wall so he could look at you fully.
You rolled your eyes at his sarcasm, though you couldn’t deny how attracted you were to how he played out this nonchalant persona, the indifference contrasting with his words making your body burn.
“And that,” he started, the hand holding the blunt pointing towards you, in a upwards and downwards movement. “That’s exactly why I have them.” Confusion invaded your mind as you failed to understand what his words meant, although his brown eyes remained on you as if revisiting every thought he ever had. “What?”
“You’re a tease without even realizing it,” he started, closing the distance between you a bit more, eyes glued to your lips as if fighting the urge to kiss you. “Describe them for me” you whispered, using your closeness to your advantage.
“How about I show you?” he whispered back, breath hot against your ear as his index finger ran along the exposed skin of your neck. Though you tensed, feeling your entire body respond to his suggestion, mouth watering, you wanted to play a bit more.
“What about ‘sorry, Charles’?” you mouthed, irony laced all over your smirk as you looked up at him lustfully. Oscar’s gaze scans the inside of the apartment quickly, more figuratively than literally, before turning back to you. “I don’t see him here now, do you?”
His index finger brushed your chin, forcing your gaze towards yours once more. “If I were him I would’ve made sure you only craved me.”
“How?” your voice was hoarse and breathy, your thighs slowly clenching at the need for touch. “Let’s just say my name would be the only thing you’d be able to utter.”
Your eyebrows raised and your breath got stuck in your throat as his lips brushed against you. You felt almost embarrassed at the effect his words and demeanor had on you, requiring little to no touch to get a reaction out of your entire body. This was not the Oscar Piastri you knew from a couple of shared classes, who sat at the back and always left first, who remained in his own zone at parties, interacting with a couple of closest friends. The fact that he was showing a more daring, direct and sexual attitude towards you felt like a compliment, exclusivity being silently attributed to you.
“Didn’t take you for such a fuckboy” you commented, almost as if making sure that this wasn’t actual his usual move, something everybody knew but didn’t talk about, a party trick he commonly used. He chuckled slightly, so close to you that you could see his throat bobbing up and down in though and feel his scent – some very light perfume that faded slightly due to the smell of the joint he was now finishing. “And I’m not,” he smiled, “I just know what I want. And I’ve been wanting you for so fucking long…” he trailed off, his eyes scanning every inch of you with lust, dropping to your lips for a few seconds longer than anywhere else, before returning to your eyes.
Before you knew it, his lips were on yours, ravenous and hungry for you. Your hands were on his soft hair, tugging it ever so slightly as his tongue teased yours and his breathing increased. Gripping your waist, Oscar pinned you against the balcony wall, the people on the other side of it disappearing from both of your minds as soon as you touched. His kissed matched him so well – so careless yet not aggressive nor bad, just confident and slow paced, as if possessing all the time in the world to enjoy every part of you. You couldn’t help but moan at the novelty of it, how different he was, how his touch left your body burning with freezing need for more.
His lips curved into a smile upon hearing you, an aroused gleefulness displayed in between kisses, fueling an ever growing necessity inside both of you. One of his hands rose to your neck, his thumb caressing your cheek sweetly, that touch so opposite from his grip that claimed you as his for a moment.
As soon as that moment came, it went away, his face distancing from yours, one of his hands attempting to fix the mess you had made of his hair. “I need you so bad right now” he whispered, cursing to himself at the loss of composure he ensured he had built. You merely stared at his disheveled look, frustrated desire written across his body as his brown eyes seemed to darken as time went by. You did not dare to speak, afraid no words would come out, brain foggy from sharing the absolute same wish as his: to continue what you started, to finish it completely.
“My dorm room is literally right above this one” he said after a few seconds, steading his breath in order to seem calmer, more relaxed and casual about the clear tension between you. You knew what he meant and knew he wouldn’t be elaborating any further. Knew he would simply go to his room and wait, watching tv as if you showing up – or not – wouldn’t influence much of his night. Like whatever was happening wasn’t happening, like he didn’t just say he needed you.
You replied with a nod as he opened the door and climbed inside, knowing that when you entered that kitchen he wouldn’t be there anymore. You waited a few more minutes, smoking another cigarette as you considered your options, tried to clear your head and think rationally, yet it was hard as every part of your body ached for more of him, your legs weak just from the kiss you shared on the balcony. Finishig your smoke, you climbed inside the kitchen, where people remained unaware of what happened outside, as if you belonged to two different channels that now intertwined.
You searched for your best friend, wanting to let her know where you were going, reassuring that she needn’t worry but that you’d be just one floor above in case she needed something. Finding her was harder than you thought, minutes passing with you growing more nervous at the prospect of Oscar having given up on you, thinking you had done the same with him. Had he more options? Was he this open with every woman he found attractive? These thoughts clouded your mind as your eyes crossed with your best friend’s and she ran towards you. Tipsy, but not drunk. Good. You both filled each other in on what you had missed during the short time you weren’t next to each other, promising to be close if any of you were in need. Her good luck wink gave you all the approval you needed to leave that dorm room and head towards the upper floor.
The floor vibrated with the music underneath – Oscar wasn’t lying when he said it his room was right above – every beat pulsating with energy that matched your own beating heart. Your nervous hands knocked on the door, your mind too aware of your stance, wondering what would be considered normal in a situation like this. But all those thoughts evaporated your mind as the door opened and you were greeted with the mesmerizing view of the boy you had just made out with.
His hair was slightly damp, indicating that he had taken a shower, or was in the middle of one, as you noticed some droplets running across his smooth skin and a towel lazily wrapped around his hips. You felt hypnotized by his slight smirk and unpreoccupied appearance as he step aside to let you in. “Was starting to think you wouldn’t come” he commented as he pointed towards the sofa in the middle of the apartment, sitting casually next to you. “Hence the look” he continued, giggling slightly.
You were too aware of how naked he was and how little he seemed to care about it. He kept a comfortable distance between you, as if allowing you to stand up and leave were you to change your mind. But that wasn’t even an option to you as his eyes landed on your lips, lingering in there before he gently shook his head and looked up at the ceiling. “God, you have me wrapped around your finger” his tone was half joke, half truth, as if he couldn’t believe it himself, how you seemed to so effortlessly produce such an effect on him.
“Well, I was promised something” you shrugged teasingly, your confidence growing as you realized how much he craved you, how this was something he actually wanted for a while. With your comment, his eyes shot back to you, and his body quickly followed, hovering above yours, droplets of water falling delicately on your face as he looked down at you, hands placed on each side of your head. You couldn’t help but bite your lip hungrily, crossing your legs tightly trying to relieve some of the need you were feeling.
Oscar’s eyes remained on your face as he stopped your legs with his own. “No” he whispered with assertion. “You want me to show you want I imagine doing to you, then you’ll have to play your part and look pretty while at it.”
You were shocked at his words and actions and how they affected you, making it so the only thing you could do in response was nod. Your eyes wanted to wander to where the towel threatened to unwrap himself, but Oscar’s soft finger lifted your chin towards him. “Eyes on me” despite it being a command, his voice indicated anything but that. It was calm and reassuring, confident but not cocky.
His thumb grazed across your lower lip, fondling it gently before opening your mouth subtly. He inserted his index and middle finger inside your mouth, pushing smoothly against your tongue. You took it upon yourself to wrap your lips around them, sucking on them, your tongue playing with his skin as you maintained eye contact. “Fuck” he cursed, muscles trembling from trying to keep his position and composure.
After some seconds, he removed his fingers from your mouth, replacing them with his own lips, hungrily possessing you. As he did this, causing your brain to go lightheaded and register little to nothing at all apart from his touch and tongue caressing you, his hand slid down your exposed stomach to the inside of your jeans. Your arms were around his neck, trying to pull him closer despite the impossibility of it – but you needed more. More of him, of his touch and of his body on yours.
His finger caressed your clit softly, satisfying your needs in part, but simultaneously leaving you more frustrated. You couldn’t help but whimper, trying to grind against his teasing hand, hips moving almost instinctively, which caused a sensuous chuckle to leaving his lips. “You sound even better than what I imagined,” his finger dipped lowered towards your entrance, teasing it, playing with your own desperate hunger. “And you’re wetter, too.”
You moaned at his words, and despair invaded your brain, your hands rushing to unbutton your pants and giving Oscar all the liberty of movement, a silent plea for the feeling of him inside you. Your walls clenched around nothing when he pulled your top up, revealing your exposed breasts. His eyes lingered on them as he tasted you, placing his fingers in his mouth while his other hand removed the towel from around his waist.
Finally, you thought, throwing your own jeans on the floor, red lace panties covering little to nothing of the lower half of your body.
His erection sprang free as he dropped the towel as well, the tip glistening with pre cum, its entire length throbbing. His hand wrapped around it as he took the entire sight of you in, eyelids revealing a drunken thrill as his breath became more irregular.
“I thought about this so many fucking times” he started, not with longing but with a primal urge to have you, a matter-of-fact tone in his voice that caused your whole body to erupt in need. “Come here”
Oscar positioned himself on his knees at the edge of the couch, continuously stoking himself as you moved towards him on all fours, not daring to look away from the sheer sight of him. Pulling your hair, he directed your face towards his erection, pressing it against your lips. You opened your mouth and enveloped him slowly, savoring the salty taste of him as your tongue explored his length. Each one of your caresses made him groan and sigh in pleasure, your head bobbing up and down underneath him.
The sight of you was beautifully overwhelming to him, especially as you started grinding your hips against nothing at all. “Fuck, if I knew you wanted it this bad I would… I would’ve done this earlier” he struggled to say, mesmerized at how your eyes looked up at him, ecstasy-filled.
You moaned against his cock, vibrations traveling throughout his body as he jerked his hips up, deeper into you, more than what you thought possible. You teared up with the suddenness of it, though it made you dizzy with pleasure.
That pleasure was short-ended as his hand pulled your hair softly, an indication for you to stop. As he removed himself from inside your mouth, a string of saliva connected you both, your lips now swollen and red, shiny with spit.
Oscar lowered himself in order to kiss you while laying you on the sofa once again, his mouth leaving wet marks all over your body until it reached the area underneath your bellybutton. He blew softly on your skin, and goosebumps invaded your body as he pulled your underwear down and off of you, hands now placed around your thighs, opening them with fervor. Before you could register the coldness hitting your now exposed skin, his face buried in between your legs, licking you softly as his damp hair touched the skin on your thighs.
The warmth of his mouth contrasted with his still-wet hair, your mind clouded by wanting to wrap your legs around him and the instinct to pull away from the cold. He grinned against your wet pussy before sucking your clit, your hands flying towards his hair, pushing him against you.
“So needy…” he whispered, readjusting himself so he could bury two fingers into you and keep his attention on your clit, devouring you. His tongue sent your body into frenzied shivers, his name escaping your lips incoherently. His fingers intensified their pace, sliding in and out of you and curling inside you. “Fuck, you taste so good” he mumbled, “and my name sounds so good when you whimper it” he now looked at you intently, analyzing your pleasure with so much attention it almost made you blush – were your cheeks not red due to the heat of the desire. It was all so much, so much you couldn’t focus on it all, your body erupting into an orgasm, walls pulsating around his fingers, his gaze adoring your body and all of its movements.
Your chest rose and fell almost as fast as your heart beat, and you giggled, actually giggled, from how lightheaded you felt. “I need to see and hear that again” he stared, more than asked you, although he remained in place, only his hand slowly pulling out from inside you, covered in your juices. He wasted no time in wrapping it around his own erection, now even more visibly hungry for something – someone. You.
“Please” he pleaded, suddenly looking so greedy, so needy and desperate. For some reason, this reignited the desire within you, and although your body was still recovering from the intoxicating orgasm, you were ready to do it all again.
“Do I keep going in your fantasy?” you asked, voice hoarse and breathy. His eyes widened slightly, the pace of his movement as he worked himself up increased as he nodded. “Then why are you asking me?” you told him, the fact that you consented implicit in your tone, your legs spreading apart for him to gawk at.
He barely needed two seconds before positioning himself between your legs once again, the tip of his cock rubbing against your entrance. “You’re soaking” he tried saying, stumbling across some vowels due to his own excitement. “I don’t know if I can last much” he slowly entered you, savoring as every inch buried deeper inside you, “you drive me fucking crazy.”
Your eyes rolled the back of your head at how he filled you up, at his praise as he did so, at how good he sounded when incoherence and pleasure laced his words. His hips moved, at first in a slow, consistent, pace, which quickly changed after some seconds, along with his breathing.
His eyebrows furrowed as your nails dug into his back, the sudden pain feeling so thrilling when mixed with the pleasure of being inside you. “Turn around” he said, pulling himself out of you for less than a second, giving you only time to lay on your stomach with your ass in the air.
That position allowed for him to go even deeper inside you, to hear you scream in pleasure as your own hand touched your clit in desperate need for more release. “You like that?” he asked in between breaths, knowing he could barely hold it any longer.
You tried saying the word ‘yes’ but even that failed you, your vision cloudy and your head foggy as you felt him close to release. His moans increased in loudness and intensity, your name being one of the few coherent things he could say before pulling himself out of you and orgasming, his cum spread across your back.
You couldn’t do anything but succumb to your own pleasure erratically, the simultaneous nature of your orgasms driving you into your own craziness.
Your body collapsed on the couch as his pressed tightly against you, both of you trying to gather your thoughts. Lying on his back, his head now looking at the ceiling, Oscar turned to you softly. “Want to sleep over?”
Your plan was not going to work.

When he came back from hell, injured and bloodied, all thoughts left your mind; all you could think about was saving him.
Crying as you stitched up his stab wounds and hoped that Lute got him back home in enough time that he would live another day.
You were diligent and careful with every inch of his body as you worried that the man you loved would never return to you.
As he woke up, you felt immediate relief and held him close to you for days straight till he was strong enough again.
You let him have it once he was strong enough to handle physical activities. Your voice carried through the entirety of the angelic tower.
Once your rant about taking care of himself and the wrongness of extermination was over, he was happy to open his arms up for you.
Even though you tried hard to continue being mad, it was impossible not to climb into bed with him and hold him even longer.
Tumblr media
Lucifer
When he had fallen, you also fell just inches behind him; you knew his wounds would far surpass yours. Where you willingly chose to fall with him, he was cast out.
Once safe and sheltered from most of the elements, you took tender care of his broken wings and tore up the body.
As you stitched him up and wrapped up deeper wounds, you sat above him, crying, hoping he would pull through this.
As he woke from his stooper, he caressed your face gently as you held his hand there, pouring all your emotions out to him.
He reprimanded you for falling with him but, in the same breath, mentioned how happy he was to have someone so devoted by his side.
As he healed, you two built up hell and gave those who had received free will a purpose.
Even though he sometimes blamed himself, he was so happy to have you beside him, fixing hell up one step at a time.
Tumblr media
Alastor
He was picky about who got to see him so vulnerable and weak; he was not about to let others know that he could be harmed in such a manner.
When you showed up outside the radio tower, panicking after watching him disappear after a fatal blow. He couldn't deny the happiness he felt in his fleeting moments.
As you laid him down and tore open his suit, you made quick work of the large wound across his chest that Adam gave him.
You were stoic and focused on ensuring that he emerged from this alive with only a scar to tell the tale.
Once you had finished and he was doing better health-wise, you finally snapped and broke down in front of him, explaining your worries and fears.
He gently pulled you into a hug, resting his head atop yours, reminding you that he was alive and reminding himself he would be a goner without you.
When you two arrived back at the hotel, relief was felt through most of the others; however, you were happy that Alastor finally let down his walls with someone, especially since that someone was you.
Tumblr media
Vox
Vox had suffered another beating from Alastor, something you were far more used to than you cared to admit.
He never got hurt enough that it required intense medical attention, but he did get his pride slapped around most of the time.
You sat delicately on his lap while he held your waist so you could gently fix up his screen
You were never a techy person, but you learned over the years how to replace his wiring and screens when things got bad like this.
Once he was all patched up, you sighed and rested your head on his shoulder, allowing the day's weight to catch up with you.
Worrying that you were now growing tired of him, Vox asked what was so wrong, only for you to pour out your heart and concerns he may get really hurt one of these times.
Feeling your genuine confession, he smiled softly and kissed you, reminding you that he fights for you to be safe and work free in his tower, but he would make an effort to come home scratched up less often.

Fly Me To The Moon | Five
Tumblr media
Hermes x Fem!Reader (Modern)
(Art Credit: Zieru)
Tumblr media
"So, what's it like? Being a God I mean?" Asked Y/n. She and Hermes were on the couch in the living room. They didn't sit too close to each other, not like they have been before. Hermes wanted to make her comfortable, to give her space. He didn't want to risk frightening her.
"It's..." Hermes began. "It's complicated, to put it simply..."
But Y/n, she felt the urge to move closer to him. To full admire him in his entirety, his true self. Her eyes kept wondering to the feathers. They were pressed tightly closed against his head, tense.
His clothes fit perfectly to the era he was born into. There was a lavish appearance to them, however. They were also comfortable, easy to move around in. And considering the amount of running and flying he does, he'd needed clothes that would allow him to move freely.
And from where she sat, she could see now that his once hazel eyes, were now pure golden. His gaze was lowered at his hands, that never seemed to still. He was nervous.
Y/n didn't think Gods could be nervous. And yet, here Hermes sat as if readied to be scolded or yelled at. But she didn't blame him for acting this way. It was obvious to her, that Hermes valued her opinion of him. More than that, she knew how much he cared about her.
"Complicated how?" Asked Y/n.
And this sudden news might have been what tears them apart. But it wouldn't be. Y/n didn't want it to be. She was confused, still a little shocked, but she didn't by any means dislike Hermes now. She didn't even hate him.
Hermes had no say in his Godhood, he was born into it. He had his reasons for hiding himself in the modern era.
Because of exactly this.
Y/n couldn't help but wonder, if Hermes had done this for any other human before he met her. Did he ever tell them? If he didn't, did he simply break things off with them? Disappear forever, continuing to live on while they grew old and die?
Never to see each other again...
Y/n felt relieved. Hermes could have easily left her before she ever knew about who he really was. Someone as amazing as Hermes had came into her life, and in an instant, he could have been gone from it for the rest of her life.
And yet, he chose to stay. He chose to tell her. And for that, Y/n couldn't have been more grateful.
"We Gods have lives like any mortal would, however, our lives never end." Said Hermes. "And of course, we have abnormal abilities. Controlling the elements, inhumane strength and stamina, creating something from nothing, powers beyond all mortal comprehension, and so on."
Hermes continued. "And you'd think once you are given your purpose, life would be easy. You know what your place among the divine is, and it will continue to be so until the end of all things..."
"But?" Y/n prompted.
"But it gets boring after millennia." Hermes sighed. "I might be the only one who feels this way. But I am so glad you humans evolved like you did. Made things less dull, for me that is."
Y/n scoots a little closer to him, Hermes looked up at her. Yes, she could see it clearly now. His eyes. Were all Gods' eyes this beautiful?
"I guess it would get boring, if you had to deliver mail forever." She joked. Hermes cracked a smile. "Come on now, you know me better than that." He said. "I did much more than just deliver things."
Y/n laughed lightly. "Yeah I know. You stole Apollo's cows when you were minutes old. You helped Odysseus save his crew from Circe, and you got him off of Calypso's island. Oh and, don't you guide souls to the Underworld?"
"Yes, I've done it all." Hermes nods. "I also invented the telephone, you're welcome."
"You did not!" Y/n laughed. Hermes laughed as well. "No, but I did persuade the man who did. Just a little divine intervention is all it took."
Their laughter died down after a moment, and once again, silence took over. Y/n lowered her gaze to her lap, she wanted to say something. There was one question that bugged her more than any other right now, but she wasn't sure how to ask.
But she had to know. So, Y/n took a breath, and summoned the courage to just say it.
"Why choose me? If there's Gods, then there has to be other divine creatures, why not someone like that? Why just...me? A human?"
Hermes paused a moment to think before answering her. "Because I like you." Y/n furrowed her brows. That couldn't have been it. No way it was that simple. She looked to him, a serious look on her face as she spoke. "I mean it." She said firmly.
Hermes met her gaze, just as firm, just as serious. "So do I."
Before she could doubt him again, he continued. "I've always prefered humans over Gods, or nymphs, or whoever else. Humans have a certain way about them, that draws me in every time. I've always enjoyed their company, whether it be platonic or romantic. You are no different." He went on.
"I chose you, because I like you. Yes, I found you attractive when I first saw you. Then, I got to see that your personality matches your appearance. Beautiful. I found myself wanting to savor the time I had with you, unlike so many other of my flings." Hermes takes her hands with his own.
"I really do care about you, Y/n. Which is why it was so hard for me to tell you about myself. I didn't want to scare you away. Those days we were apart was agony, I couldn't bare it a second longer. I wanted nothing more than to be with you again."
Y/n nearly teared up at his words. She couldn't tell if it was his thousands of years of experience, or if it was just his divinity making his words feel so much more impactful. She never knew a guy could be so loving with just words alone.
"I didn't like being away from you either, Hermes." Said Y/n sadly. "I was just...so confused. And, I might have had a bit of an existential crisis about it, but once I calmed down and had time to think about it...I realized, you are still you. Even if you were some ethereal being, you were still the same charming guy I met that day at the museum."
Hermes felt his heart still a beat, his hands that held hers tightened slightly in anticipation. "So, does that mean we can still be together?" He asked her. Y/n smiled warmly, then leaned in to kiss his cheek.
"Yes, we can. But I want nothing but the truth from now on!"
Hermes could have died a happy God right then. He stood from the couch, lifting Y/n into his arms as he did so, and spun around while laughing. "Oh, darling! You have no idea what this means to me!"
Y/n giggled and held onto him tight as not to fall. "Hermes! Calm down!"
Hermes stopped, but did not let her go. "Calm down? The most lovely woman alive just gave me a second chance! I'm going to be ecstatic about this for the next century!" He said before kissing her temple, then whispered softly to her.. "Darling, so long as I'm here you will know nothing but love and adoration."
Tumblr media
After Hermes revealed himself a God, life for him and Y/n couldn't have been better. Y/n had never seen Hermes so happy and carefree. He could finally be himself around her, he didn't have to hide anything from her anymore.
And because of that, their relationship blossomed that much more into something beautiful.
Hermes would bring her gifts and trinkets from all around the world, even from his home on Olympus. Speaking of,
Y/n grew more curious about Olympus and it's divine beings. She wanted to know more about them, and Hermes was more than happy to tell her. For starters, she learned that she has already met another God from Olympus without knowing.
Hermes's younger brother, Dion. Or, Dionysus rather. Y/n was half thrilled and half worrisome. Did she make a good first impression? What did Dionysus think of her?
Hermes assured her that Dionysus liked her fine, and not to think about it too much. However, he thought it might be a good idea for the two to meet, properly this time.
So, Hermes sought out his half-brother to make arrangements. When the idea was brought up with Dionysus, he was immediately on board.
"Bring her here, to Olympus! We can show her a wonderful time here, she'd love it! Didn't you say she was fascinated by us Gods?"
Dionysus' words replayed in Hermes head as he hurried back to Y/n's home. From there he'd tell her of the news. And while Y/n was over the moon to go to Olympus, she was also cautious.
"Am I even allowed up there?" She asked Hermes.
"Well...Technically, no." Said Hermes, before quickly adding. "But! I can sneak you in. It won't be a problem, trust me." Y/n was hesitant. What if she and Hermes gets caught? What then? Hermes would be punished, and Y/n...she didn't want to think about what might happen...
"Now let's get a move on. Dionysus likes to pregame every party he throws. He might be plastered by the time we get there." Hermes chuckled.
The two left the house, Y/n locking the front door behind her. Thankfully it was late enough where no one would be outside. The soft chirping of crickets added to the silent night air.
Hermes then scooped Y/n into his arms. Y/n felt her heart flutter around in her chest. Hermes held her so effortlessly, as if she weighed nothing at all.
"Uh...Wait. Hermes?" Y/n asks, looking to him. "How do we get to Olympus?"
Hermes snickered before saying. "Hold on tight, love." Then took off running. Y/n did as he said, her grip tightening when Hermes took a leap into the air. She gasped sharply and her eyes shut tight. She felt her stomach drop as they went higher and higher into the air.
"Have you never flown before?" Asked Hermes with a laugh. Y/n, without opening her eyes, answered. "Yes! But in a plane! With walls! Not just in open sky!"
"I won't drop you, darling." Hermes tells her. "Open your eyes, enjoy the view. It's a lovely night, you can see the stars so clearly from up here."
Slowly, hesitantly, Y/n opened one of her eyes. Only to immediately shut it again when she caught a glimpse of the sky whooshing past her. She took a shaky breath, calming herself, before opening both eyes.
Hermes was right, the stars could be seen so much clearly now. Y/n seemingly forgotten about her fear, and took in the scenery, and all it's beauty, fully now.
"It's so..." Y/n trailed off, distracted by the calming colors of black and blue, mixed with glittering and shimmering of the stars. "Dazzling?" Hermes finished. Y/n nods. Then something else captures her attention.
In the distance, a large mountain, that towered all else, could be seen peaking out from the clouds. Y/n's eyes widened in amazement. "Is that Olympus?" She asked aloud.
"That, it is." Hermes confirms. "Time to take a more stealthy approach. Sorry you won't get much of a scenic view." He dips low, causing Y/n's stomach to drop once more. She held onto him tight as Hermes skillfully soared around back of the mountain.
He eventually landed in the crest of the mountain, and set Y/n on the ground. Y/n held onto him, still feeling a bit dizzy after the flight. "Now." Began Hermes. "You'll need to fit in. No offense, but your modern fashion sticks out here like a sore thumb."
Y/n playfully rolled her eyes. "Well, it's not exactly like I had time to make a outfit change."
"Not to worry, I have that covered." Said Hermes. Before Y/n could question him, he dashed off in a blink of an eye. Then returned after a few seconds, this time, holding a white chiton dress.
"Where did you-"
"Don't worry about it." Hermes hands the chiton to Y/n. "Now hurry and put this on." Y/n takes the chiton, then looks to Hermes, who stared at her expectantly.
"Hermes." Y/n said bluntly.
"Yes, darling?" Asked Hermes.
"Turn around."
Hermes sighed before turning his back to her. "Oh will I ever get to see my beloved in her full naked glory?"
"Someday, maybe." Y/n laughs before undressing. She quickly puts on the chiton before giving Hermes the ok to turn around again. When he did, the biggest smile formed on his face. "Oh darling! You look outstanding!"
Y/n smiles bashfully. "Oh, you." She playfully swoons.
"Right, now onto Dionysus." Hermes said before leading Y/n. "Now, I have to warn you. A Dionysus party, for an inexperienced mortal, can be a bit...jarring." He tells her. Y/n looks to him curiously. "I've heard tales of his cults. I have a bit of an idea..."
"Yes, well, I made sure he knew to keep things simple this time. Thankfully he agreed. But knowing Dionysus, his meaning of simple could be vastly different from what I intended."
Y/n smiled and held Hermes' hand. "Thank you for looking out for me, Hermes." She says warmly. Hermes smiles and gives her hand a gentle squeeze. "Always, my darling."
As the two walked, the sound of festivities could faintly be heard. And as they grew closer, it was clear that they were in the right spot. Hermes lead Y/n through the bushes and into a clearing. There, many people, mortals and divine beings alike, were enjoying the party. Dancing, drinking, laughing, there wasn't anyone who wasn't having a good time.
And at the center of it all, was Dionysus.

I Love You's - (W/ America, Russia, England, Canada) x GN!Reader
Tumblr media
Summary: Little fluffy scenarios where some of my favorite nations tell a gn!reader "I love you" 💕
Contents/Possible Warnings: Lots of fluff, kinda angsty tho for a lot of them, hurt with comfort, gn!reader
Tumblr media
America (Alfred F. Jones)
Tumblr media
He never thought he'd fall in love. It wasn't something Alfred avoided, but it also wasn't something he ever sought out. He had accomplished a lot in the relatively short period he had been around, he was still young and had opportunities to chase, and with that, he never imagined he'd have the time for romance. Still, things happened and now you were here with him, and there wasn't a happier man in the entirety of the world. With you beside him, he couldn't ask for anything better.
You were beautiful, so beautiful; both inside and out. Your hair was soft, your eyes captivated him, you understood him entirely, you loved him! He could go on forever, gushing about his awesome partner. You were the definition of perfection to him, flawed or not. He was head over heels.
"Love attack!" He nearly shouted while you were watching a movie with him in the living room one night, cupping your face in his hands as he began to pepper it with kisses. It startled you, but you loved it. One thing you adored about him was how he never tried to hide his affections. He was in love, and he'd be damned if he didn't show it.
You giggled, lightly pushing on his chest as he kissed every part of your face he could, now laughing himself. He kissed your forehead, your now reddened cheeks, your nose, and your cheeks again. When he was done he pulled back, grinning at the sight of your flustered, but happy expression.
"You missed, silly," you smiled playfully, pulling him back in before kissing him sweetly, satisfied hums escaping you both. You loved him, and you made sure to convey that with every movement of your lips together.
"I love you," He said between kisses. "My honey, my love, my baby, my sweetheart, my everything." It was true, you were his everything. He didn't want to live fast anymore, jumping at every opportunity, not when his most important one was right in front of him, and had such kissable lips, too.
Russia (Ivan Braginsky)
Tumblr media
It was a well-known fact to those who had ever visited that Russia's house was more than just cold. It was freezing, something which you still weren't used to, even after all the years you had spent living with him. It got even colder during the night, and blankets could only do so much.
Ivan always hated the cold, the connection between it and the isolation he had endured throughout his life unable to be undone. Things were different now, though. He had you with him, someone to warm his heart, especially during those frigid nights he had dreaded so much.
"Ivan," you called out to him from the bed, wrapped up in multiple thick blankets that seemed to do nothing to keep you from shivering. "Come to bed, дорогой" You spoke with a tired smile, the last word making him melt as it left your mouth. 'Darling,' you had called him in his native tongue. He was your darling.
As he slipped into your shared bed with you he wrapped his arms around you, holding you close, his eyes closed in relaxation and bliss as he nuzzled his face into your hair. You made him feel warm, and that's all he ever truly wanted out of life. Someone to love, and someone to love him back.
"я тебя люблю." He mumbled against you, smiling softly. "мое солнышко." You were his sunshine, a ray of light shining through despite the clouds. He moved his head out of your hair and leaned down, capturing your lips in a sweet kiss. "Promise me you'll never leave," he told you, caressing your cheek gently. To anyone else, that would've sounded like a demand, but to you it was a request for comfort.
"I'm not going anywhere," You reassured him, kissing his cheek. "I love you, Ivan. With all of my heart. я тебя люблю."
England (Arthur Kirkland)
Tumblr media
Having done so much throughout his history, Arthur savored quiet moments, even if they were little ones. The moments when he wasn't busy, and the moments when he wasn't plagued with the harsh realities of the world. His favorite moments, however, involved you.
You were kinder than anyone else he had ever met in his centuries of being alive, a true angel. You were his everything, the love of his life, so much so that he wondered how he had gone so long without you. When you were with him he didn't feel so distant from everyone else; he felt wanted.
You were curled up next to him on the couch, your arms wrapped around him as you leaned your head against his shoulder, simply enjoying his company while a television show neither of you were paying much attention to played in the background.
The one bad thing about these quiet moments was the rare opportunity for his mind to drift into places, or more so memories, that he'd rather not think about. He had fought with so many people throughout his life, some of which he had cherished. In the end, everyone left him, sooner or later, a distance soon growing. Were you the next one to leave...? What if you two had an argument one day, and you decided you couldn't stand being around him anymore? What if he—
"Arthur," your voice reached his ears, tone gentle and soft. Then, your hand came forward to cup his face, carefully turning his head towards you. "You're overthinking again, love." You frowned, making an observation. "Do you want to talk about it?" He shook his head.
"No. It's nothing we haven't already discussed." He replied, smiling at you sadly. "It's my own insecurities, nothing you need to worry about, dear." With this, your frown grew before you leaned in, kissing him lovingly.
"I love you," He muttered against your lips, emerald green eyes looking into yours with an adoration reserved only for you. "I love you so much." He meant it with every part of his being. Even with his fears, deep down, he knew you wouldn't abandon him, because you loved him with every part of your being, too.
Canada (Matthew Williams)
Tumblr media
He was used to being forgotten. Always the quiet one, he was easily overlooked, even by those closest to him. Honestly, he didn't know how he managed to start dating you, or get you to notice he was there. To him, he wasn't anything special, just maple leaves and the friend of a bear who barely knew who he was. He didn't deserve you.
"Matthew," You smiled at him one morning over breakfast. "I've been practicing my French recently, thought it'd be useful, y'know? Can I speak to you a bit and get your feedback? I'm not too good at it yet..."
He nodded, returning your smile. You were so smart, so clever, so cute. You were always trying to learn new things, especially when it came to him and his nation. You never forget about him, you were so sweet, so unique, and he was just... himself.
"Hmm..." You hummed in faux contemplation, acting like you were trying to remember what you were going to say. You knew exactly what was on your mind. "Why don't I start with a pretty common phrase? Je t'iame." He blushed at your words. You told him that every day without fail, but hearing it in French felt different somehow, more meaningful in a way.
"Y-You said it excellently." He stuttered out, heart racing as you looked into his amethyst eyes, a gleam of admiration for him in your own.
"Ooh! Let me try out another phrase, then," You grinned, leaning forward slightly over the table. "These ones are a bit more complicated. Tu es l’amour de ma vie. Tu es mon âme sœur," the words poured out from your lips, the sound like music to his ears. You said it perfectly, how long had you been practicing? You must've put in a lot of effort...
"Woah!" You gasped, standing up from your seat at the sight of small tears welling up in his eyes. You rushed over to him, holding his face gently in your hands as your thumbs wiped away his tears. "I didn't mean to make you cry—"
He sniffled, standing up to wrap you in a tight embrace. "I don't deserve you," He whispered, voice shaky. He was happy, so happy. He loved you, and he'd never stop. "Je t’aime de tout mon cœur," he told you with love, pressing a kiss to your forehead as he did so. "I love you with all my heart," he clarified with a small chuckle after you shot him a confused look.
"How do I say that, but back to you?" You questioned, tilting your head slightly in curiosity. Adorable, you were beyond adorable. He chuckled again, answering you only but kissing you lovingly. He'd teach you soon enough, but for now, he was focused on expressing his love for you in ways that involved less French.

Tag You're It
Tumblr media
You stood there at the bar looking at your few regulars as you spaced out. It was a slow night, almost like every night. Your village was too small and too secluded to get any real traffic. If it wasn't for a few months ago it would have closed- not for a certain pirate crew then it would have defiently closed their doors.
Speaking of which- the door busted open with a fairly dramatic flare. As if summoned by your thoughts there stood the entirety of the Red Haired Pirates, cheeks already flushes with alcohol it seemed.
"Good Evening Mr. Shanks! Glad to see you back" You smile cheerfully at him, He would often come to the bar when he ran out of his monthly supply on his Island next door. Him and his crew were very nice, paired with the fact they always payed very well.
"Good Evening to you (Y/N)! Please bring out the best you have little one! It's a celebration!" It was no secret that Shanks had been eyeing you for the months he had been stopping by, How his eyes would linger on your form a bit more then most- How his gaze would track you as you moved through the bar.
"A celebration?" You asked innocently as he held up a wanted poster proudly. A dark brooding figure Stepping in behind him, looking a bit irritated to he there, even as his gaze settled on you.
"Yep! My Lad Luffy got his first bounty and is now a Pirate! Paired with my good Pal here Mihawk is here for a visit!"
"Well in that case I'll pull out the best!" You said cheerfully waving at your co-workers to bring our the large crates of rum and ale for them.
As the liquor was poured you saw Shanks and Mihawk quietly talking- Their eyes locked onto you as they stared at you, watching every move you did. Which made your cheeks heat up dramatically. After a few moments of this and the bar coming to life with loud music you ended up grabbing a drink as well.
This seemed to drawn Mihawk over, his form shadowing yours. "Is it wise for you to drink?" He cautioned a brow, making you feel a bit flustered by both his accent and eyes.
"It's fine, it's not like anyone here would hurt me" You say softly, Waving your hand dismissively. His lips curving to a slight smirk at this-
"I don't think hurting you is what they would have in mind" Oh your face was bright red now- especially with the purr in his tone and look in his eye-
"W-Well if they asked I wouldn't be opposed I'm sure-" You manage to squeak out, drawing his gaze in. Before he gestured you to follow him, which you obediently did. Returning to his seat next to Shanks he pulled you to his lap which made your face crimson- The red head smiling at the sight.
"Didn't know all I had to do was smile to bring you over finally" He teased, Gesturing to yourself seated on his peers lap. You took another sip of your drink and shyly shrugged
"As I say, ask and you shall receive Shanks. Number one rule here" You quip back which earns a noise from Mihawk- seemingly a chuckle.
"Well if that's the case. Me and my friend here, both would love to take you out for the evening, to get to know you better. But you'd have to choose my dear"
"I-I wouldn't be able to choose-" You admit shyly, Looking between the two of you. Shanks laughing loudly at this as he bit his lip.
"What about both of us?" He chimed, something in his eyes made tour stomach warm. Maybe it was the underlying danger or the arousal but yoh nodded.
"Well, I suppose it couldn't hurt- It's a celebration afterall" You blushed, drinking more of the rum in your glass. The alcohol making your head buzz and warmth filled your body.
Mihawk squeezed your thigh as you were still seated on his lap.
"Deplorable as usual-" Mihawk grumbled, but his gaze did fall to you as you sat there blushing in-between the two men. His golden eyes practically staring through your soul, reaching forward and taking a peice of your hair in his hands and messing with it- Like he was trying to decide to go through with it. Once your big beautiful eyes settled on his, he sighed almost defeatedly.
"But I suppose a bit of sharing wouldn't be the worse" He said softly. Shanks smiling widely as he heard this and gave a proud laugh. Patting Mihawk shoulder in joy.
Shanks was the first to stand, pulling you up to your feet. Mihawks hand on the small of your back and lead you out of the bar and towards the inn. Mihawk tossing down some berry and guided you up to the given room.
Author Note!: ⚠️ Final Warning ⚠️ Once you go past this line. THERE IS NO RETURN! ITS ABOUT TO GET INFERNO SPICY- 18+ ultra mature!
Shanks and Mihawk stood on either side of you. Shanks was the first one to kiss you, it was gentle at first sweet even. It wasn't till you felt a tug on your blouse that the sweet kiss was broke, feeling him pull off your blouse as you felt your pants fall down to the floor. Realizing Mihawk had taken the time to undo them, along with your bra as Shanks smiled and pulled down your underwear. Blushing you felt a push as you fell onto the bed behind you.
You were laid there on the soft comforters of the local Inns bed, Blushing as the warm lights of the lanterns barely lit the room. But you could make out the two men staring at you like you were fresh prey infront of two hungry carnivores.
"How shall we go about this Hawkeye? Maybe a good game of tag?" Shanks said with a wicked smiled, Mihawk smirking as his gaze never left you and nodded.
Mihawk too the left while Shanks moved forward climbing into the bed with a grin as he found himself between your legs.
"He can't help but put everything in his mouth Darling" Mihawk said calmly playing with your hair as you moaned helplessly against his chest, Watching your face contort and shift from Shanks pleasurable torture. You could feel Shanks smirk between your legs as his mouth wrapped around your clit and sucked hard, crying out in pleasure as Mihawk captured your lips in a deep kiss. Wine filled your senses as you accepted the kiss, feeling him hungry mouth dominate your own.
Pulling away as Shanks pulled your hips with his arm, bringing your core closer as he seemed too lost in his meal to be concerned with the lost kiss between you and Hawkeye-
At being pulled down your face sliding down Mihawk's chest and to his waist, Blushing deeply as you laid infront of the Warlords tending pants. Mihawk smirking at your reaction as he gestured for you to proceed, not needing a cue you carefully undid his pants. Blushing as his large cock bounces out enthusiastically- opening your lips you took all of him in, Blushing at the feeling as he groaned above you.
You moaned as you bobbed your head up and down, the feeling of Shanks driving you to your upcoming orgasm, your legs starting to shake at Shanks talented mouth before he suddently pulled away. Chuckling at the whine you gave at the sensation even while Mihawk chuckled at you as well.
"Don't worry love~ I got something better~" You heard Shanks say sweetly. A shuffling of fallen clothes fell behind you as you felt Shanks hand rest on your hip and pulling you up to your knees while you chest still laid on the mattress before Mihawk.
Your thighs shake as you felt every inch of him slide into you, combined with still too high from his mouth earlier was just enough to cum right as he bottomed out. Moaning loudly against Mihawk cock and shaking.
"Aww~ She came just from me entering. So cute~" the Red head teased, making Mihawk even chuckle. Without time to even settle through your bliss you felt Ahanks hips start to move. Like a tidal wave, the shocked of ecstacy rushed through your body.
Shank hips started to sputter against you, still shaking from your previous orgasm that had your nerves on fire.
"You know I don't care for a mess Red Hair-" Mihawk grunted out, his pace quickening on your lips as you felt him hit the back of your throat, tears rolling down your cheeks as you felt Mihawk tughten his hold on your hair, pulling your lips as far down his member as possible as he came. Heat running down your throat as you felt Shanks pull out of you at the same time and spill on your back.
"Well done Darling~" Mihawk praised as he pulled himself from your mouth, smiling at the sight of you. Tears down your cheeks, lips red and bruised and panting. He pulled you up once more, this time placing you against Shanks chest.
"Very nicely done~" Shanks purred out, praising you for your skills. You only gave a bubbling moan at the sweet praise and Mihawk hands kneading your chest, drawing out moans sweet moans from you. Feeling Mihawk place kisses down your neck in reward for your moans.
"Think you can last one more round for us Sweetheart?~" Shanks sweetly asked, nodding softly even if you mind was fuzzy from your pleasure.
It felt like a blur but suddently you where on your back, Mihawk in turn sliding into you. Your back arching at the sensation as you gasped, he was bigger- Somehow or it was just how sensitive you were. As you laid there gasping you felt Shank touch your shoulder looking up as you saw his already hardened member before your lips, accepting him you felt him thrust into your mouth.
You felt your body bounce with each powerful thrust, sending Shank's cock deeper past your bruised lips. Another hard orgasm already building in your stomach as you felt Mihawk's relentless hips slam against your form,
A muffled cry left your sore throat as you felt warmth flood your mouth and core, spots scattered in your vision as you heard the muffled pants and groans of the two above you.
Mihawk was the first to pull out of you, his large hands securing you as Shanks did the same making cold air filling your lungs. Both men working gently to clean you up, whispering praise at you as they did so. Mihawk laying you down first on the cleanest part of the bed and covering your tired form in a blanket. You felt your eyes close, too tired to open them again as sleep was already starting to take over your form.
"We must share her once again" Shanks whispered, pushing some of your hair from your face. Carefully holding your waist with his hand. You could feel Mihawk nod in agreement as he settled you on his broad chest.
"I can't disagree with that" Mihawk whispered before sleep finally claimed you.

Talking about Adam and the villians of HB
Adam is such a dissapointing villain for Hazbin Hotel that absolutely doesn't make use of the great opportunities they had for the bad guy of this project. Like, what is Adam? A sexual, irrational, rockstar asshole who kills demons for fun and is shown to be completely idiotic and unable to make any good point for his actions. And that sucks.
Atleast to me, them making Adam an irredeemable asshole type just seems like the show acknowledging that they can't take any actual feedback on Charlies idea. He is a strawman who never really gets to be anything else until his final moments, when they want you to care about his fight. The show doesn't want you to actually think critical about what Charlie has planned it just wants you to think she is right, by making you hate Adam, by making his side actively carry out genocide. The fact that a show all about revealing that people have layers and presenting seemingly morally grey areas in them has a villian who is completely one note and just evil and irrational because the show needs him to be is not great.
There are actual things that can be criticized about the Hotel and the idea of redeeming sinners, but Adam can't call any of these out because then Charlie would have to defend herself, which she can't do and then you would realize that the writers couldn't think of arguments for why she is right. And then Charlie would come off as not as great as they want you to think she is.
Tumblr media
What if he had called out the fact that genuinely no demon seems to give a shit about being a better person. We don't get a definitive time for how long Charlie has been working on the Hotel but we can assume that it has been atleast a little longer. We see her advertise her idea on the news in the pilot and the Hotel makes an advertisement in the first episode, so we know that it's pretty open information that a place where demons can redeem themselves exist. Yet in the entirety of the pilot, season one and however much time lays between the two, only two sinners came to the hotel to change (im not counting staff members because they are there to work, not to be redeemed).
Angel Dust and Sir Pentious are the only ones who came to stay, which either means that just no other sinner cares to be better or that Charlie is not taken seriously and that her hotel is viewed as stupid in concept alone. And you have to remember that even these two didn't initially join because they genuinely wanted to change.
Tumblr media
Angel just decided to stay because it was a cheap place to live where he wouldn't have to see Val. And while Pentious does decide he wants to be better, we don't know if he would have even done that, had it not been for the agreement he made with Vox (which made him come to the hotel with bad intentions in the first place).
Why doesn't Adam get to point out that sending Sinners to heaven might be a bad idea when there are probably people that they hurt or may have even killed up there. Like, Angel Dust was in the Mafia and you can assume that he has quite the killcount and it's very possible that some of his victims are in heaven. That goes for every other demon too, they're down there for a reason. And while sometimes that reason might be something stupid or irrelevant, just giving every demon the benefit of the doubt and a chance to get to heaven (in theory) seems pretty irresponsible.
That is also completely ignoring the fact that Charlie's method has no proof of even working. Seemingly in the entirety of hell existing no sinner has ever redeemed themselves and went to heaven until Sir Pentious, which was mostly an accident as well.
Tumblr media
I'm not saying Adam had to be likeable or relatable, but it's pretty obvious that they made him so hateable just because. He can't just be an obnoxious, sexist asshole because that's not blatantly evil enough apparently. He also has to commit genocide for no reason other than that he enjoys it. Again, im not saying his genocide should be excusable, but he should have a reason that isn't presented as him just doing it for fun because hes a jackass (he should have a reason that would make what he is doing okay in his own eyes where the viewer could understand how he views the world without having to agree necessarily).
Writing evil characters who are purely bad because they just are can work. But in my opinion that shouldn't be the main villian, especially not in a show where the central idea is supposed to be discussing morality and moral greyness.
Cioccolata from Jjba is a villian where this works in my opinion. He is just evil and Araki really plays that up. He isn't just a crazy doctor type who violently experiments on people for fun, his backstory also shows that he has been doing this since he was 14 and started with driving elders to suicide. And also he films everything he does because he just likes watching people suffer. Cioccolata really is just irredeemably crazy and sadistic but it works for him because he is just a side antagonist and therefore doesn't have the burden of playing as a direct counter to our main protagonist and because for all his immoral actions he still has philosophy behind that. A fucked up philosophy but an understandable (not excusable) one nonetheless. He explaines that in his eyes people can only experience true happiness from two situations. Either when your own despair is replaced with hope, or when one watches other people fall into despair themselves. In his eyes, the more people he watches die, the more he understands the human race and the stronger he gets, which leads into another aspect of his philosophy, which is that the strong have have the right and responsibility to rule over the weak. That is why I think he works.
Tumblr media
We actually get some insight into Adams deeper character motivation in his last moments. When he gets upset that the demons aren't just falling at his feet, worshipping him, even though he is the original man all life came from. And that would be a good idea to expand on, that Adam has this intense sense of entitlement that leads him to despise the demons because he doesn't have power over them, when he feels like he should. And because a crowd of people that don't worship him, feels threatening to him, he would want them gone as to not possibly risk his position of power with their ideas.
Tumblr media
That could be the reason for why he despises Charlie, because she is a demon who makes her own plans to save her people, which would mean they could start to follow her and work with her, rather than idolizing him. Something like that would work so well for his character and would fit this saviour attitude that some religious people have when "helping" atheists by recommending that they should be religious to make all their problems dissapear or something (no shade to people who genuinely find peace and safety in their religion I think that's actually great but it's not a solution for everybody). The last moments he has give great insight into what his character could've been, had they focused on this, rather than always just having him say how much he enjoys killing demons for no reason.
And in the song he has he also nearly approaches giving another possible reason for his actions (that being that he just doesn't care because demons already had their chance to be good, didn't choose that and now don't deserve a second chance), but that is also never expanded on and is pretty much ignored throughout the season.
Also I find it interesting that Adam has to be completely and irredeemably evil, hated by everyone, while Lucifer gets away with just letting the people he is supposed to rule die like it's nothing. Lucifer didn't to anything to stop the exterminations, he didn't contact his daughter in quite some time and actively mocks her idea when first meeting her after these months of not giving a shit for her or what she does (her idea that is supposed to save his people from literal death btw).
We see him easily finish Adam off in the finale which begs the question for why he just never cared to do anything before. But it's fine because he's just so silly and goofy and actually cares a lot for Charlie say's the show. That is why he gets to be redeemed in the same episode he appeared in for the first time and no one is allowed to question him because then you're just not nice and understanding.
Lucifer didn't have to like sinners. I think his approach of basically leaving the sinners to their own devices is pretty interesting. But HH wants you to hate Adam and like Lucifer without acknowledging that people who just watch bad stuff being done without doing anything about it are also shitty. And for Lucifer it seems extra shitty because we see he can literally just defeat Adam and he just didn't do anything for this whole time.
Tumblr media
Helluva Boss has this problem too where it picks characters it wants you to like and if you don't like them then you're just wrong. And therefore no villian gets to call these characters out without being shown to be either stupid, irrational or mean.
Striker was genuinely interesting and cool when he first appeared. He was an antagonist who had understandable goals that tied in well with the trajectory of the story. The classism in hell's society is a pretty relevant theme for HB. We see that Blitzø has to sleep with Stolas to be able to even do his job and earn a living, we see Imps just being tossed around and abused and hear Stolas say stuff like "impish little plaything" to Blitzø. Striker wanting to take the demons of high rank down to make hell better for the Imps by ending classism made sense and was an interesting take to see. Especially since at that point the show didn't insist on Stolas being this misunderstood good guy who just cares soo much for Blitzø, there was a sense of suspense maybe to watch wether or not Blitzø will go along with Striker or if this interaction might influence how he views his clearly predatory "relationship" with Stolas.
Tumblr media
But all of that got thrown out the window because in s2 we just can't have people criticise Stolas, since actually acknowledging the fact that he benefited and actively made use of hells classist system would mean that we wouldn't see him as a poor confused bean anymore and that one might actually think of some of the pretty bad implications the Stolitz relationship has. So now Striker is a completely obvious, self obsessed bad guy who loves himself so much that he monologues about how great he feels when torturing Stolas instead of just killing him while they also gave him a weird gimmick where he doesn't like it when someone makes a sexual remark and gets so upset that he drags out Stolas' killing and gets defeated by Millie and Moxxie because of it (the same guy was established as a great assassin in another episode).
Tumblr media
They also removed all the backbone to his ideology. He still talks about Stolas diminishing Imps in "Western Engery" but it lacks any point because they have gone so far with woobifying Stolas that he is presented as sympathetic and Striker as bigoted. Striker also acts like he can't kill Stolas because Stella called off the assassination on him. I get him being upset that he won't get his money for the kill but he still has very clear reasons for why he would want Stolas dead regardless (atleast he had when he was still a cool character). It's not like suddenly not being hired anymore would make a big change for him.
Killing Stolas could have consequences because Stolas is royalty, but these consequences always existed for him even while Stella was requesting the assassination. Stella would obviously not want others to know that she is reponsible for Stolas dying (then again we don't know if that would even matter since demons generally don't care about killing others until it's plot relevant) and the point of an assassin is that people are killed in a way that can't be tracked back to someone, so Striker should also not face issues, especially since he is apparently a really good and threatening assassin.
Striker was interesting until the show decided it liked Stolas too much for people to call him out and be presented as reasonable. Stella was turned into just an abusive, whiny and stupid bitch who just hates Stolas and wants his money instead of acknowledging that she pretty much has the same backstory as Stolas, who we are constantly told to feel bad for because of his childhood (arranged marriage, forced to have a child and a set-up relationship neither of them wanted).
Tumblr media
Verosika is really not relevant but usually also falls into the "bitchy and just rude" category because she doesn't like Blitzø (it's not as bad for her as it is with Stella but still). Asmodeus and Fizzarolli where really mean and exposed and embarrassed Stolas and Blitzø publicly. But the next time we see Asmodeus interact with Stolas he is just chill with him? Why? Blitzøs and Fizzarollis relationship was atleast handled in a way and we see him act rude towards Blitzø until they make up. But it still followes the theme of people who dislike Stolas and Blitzø either changing their mind or just being shown to be horrible to make their opinion seem invalid (also notice how these male characters in the story get to be forgiven for how they acted and show different sides to their character while the women are reduced to being bitchy).
Barbie Wire was also handled soo bad. She only appears in the last few minutes of her début episode and never gets to talk about specifically why she doesn't want to have contact with Blitzø in the first place. The focus is mostly on how hurt he is by the fact his Sister wants nothing to do with him, even after he worked soo hard to find her and just wanted to make things right with her soo bad. They also basically made her a groomer which just doesn't help her come off as reasonable at all.
Tumblr media
For a show that wants it's main characters to do bad stuff and have to deal with being called out for that it surely doesn't like people actually calling them out.
The double standards applied to the villians as opposed to the "good guys" are also just amazing. Like Millie and Moxxie can complain about Chaz being a bad partner in hindsight, but when Verosika talks about Blitzø being selfish in their relationship it's all about how he feels. Loona literally throwing stuff at Blitzø, hurting him just because he dared to carefully point out a true fact about her behaviour is played for laughs, but Stella abusing Stolas is super duper evil and we all hate her now (not saying it isn't bad but the show shouldn't pick and choose who is funny when abusive and who is evil when abusive). The I.M.P taking out random people because they were paid to is fine, but Striker attacking Stolas after being hired is bad just because he also happens to have a (understandable) motiv for why he would want to do it regardless of his job and because Stolas just so happens to be a main character. Blitzø and Loona commenting on Moxxies weight is funny, but when Mammon remarks that Fizzarolli gained a few pounds he is just bad.
That's just my opinion on some of the antagonists in HH and HB. Mammon is pretty much the only villian I really care for in both shows (also Stella and Striker before they got ruined). I mainly think antagonist are either really underused (Vox, Velvette, Verosika) or were just incredibly mishandled (Adam, Striker, Stella). Part of this post was just an excuse to talk about Jjba tho, which I always love.

💛💙Happy Wolverine Wednesday💙💛
For today I have my first Logan headcanon that I've written ever. Working on it was really fun and even though I can tell it's not perfect I'll def get better with more practice💪 I'll be posting Part 2 either later this week or for the next Wolverine Wednesday. I'm also going to figure out how to make a masterlist and put it in my pinned post the more I write. I hope you enjoy and constructive criticism is appreciated! (just don't be too mean plz I'll cry😓)
Headcanon under the cut
Purring Logan Part 1
• For context I believe that true to Logan's animalistic nature there's certain things he does that are out of his control that are not necessarily human behaviors
• For example: scenting new people he doesn't recognize, his eyes dilating/doing that reflective thing in the dark, and him purring when he's content/comfortable/happy
• Given the type of life he lives he doesn't often get to experience the last one in it's entirety. He could probably count on one maybe both hands how many times he's purred in his entire 200+ years of life
• He's HIGHLY embarrassed by it when it happens out of nowhere AND there's other people around
• It'll happen only for a few seconds when he's taking a really nice hot shower after a long day or he's having a comfort meal
• Kurt (Nightcrawler) is one of the only people alive at this point who have had the fortune (or misfortune) of getting to experience this while having dinner with Logan
• Both him and Kurt were having dinner late after all of the other X-Men were finished leaving them alone with each other in the dining room
• Porridge was on the menu and Logan's had extra nuts and a side of bacon (like how his mama used to make for him)
• He was just so hungry and Peter (Colossus) did something different when cooking dinner today that made it taste way better than it ever had
• He really couldn't help it after a few minutes eating when a light rumble started deep in his chest that came up his throat before he could suppress it
• Immediately Logan's head snaps up towards Kurt who's sitting across from him
• The look Logan gives him could freeze the entire ocean over....
• Kurt quickly covers his mouth to stop himself from laughing as Logan's claws slowly come out, a silent threat against Kurt's life
• (Kurt purrs too but he's not embarrassed about it. He uses it along with his cutsey act to get out of sticky situations with other X-Men😽 Unfortunately this doesn't work on Logan...)
• Their unspoken agreement while they both finished their food in silence was to never speak of that moment again and to pretend it never happened
• (Every once in a while when they have porridge for dinner Kurt gives Logan a knowing look which Logan does NOT appreciate at all)

Invisible Smoke - Three
Summary: There is something going on with Jake’s favorite mechanic. And he finally gets some answers.
Pairing: Jake “Hangman” Seresin/F!Reader Word Count: 9k ABSOLUTELY NO MINORS ALLOWED
A/N: I apologize for the delay and thank you all so much for the love on the last chapter. Life has been a little overwhelming lately. Work has been hectic and I had a close family member pass away. I am hoping to come up for air soon. Thank you for your patience. And I do feel the need to reiterate that I DO NOT keep a tag list. Sorry!
Warnings: Naval inaccuracies, themes of stalking, cursing, mentions of bodily harm/injury, domestic abuse, and unhealthy coping mechanisms.
Tumblr media
What could you possibly say? The truth was out of the question, at least the entirety of it was. You couldn't and wouldn’t drag him into this more than he already was. Jake deserved better than being wrapped up in your mess. “I got caught up in something above my paygrade a few years ago. Thought I had left it in the past. I’ll take care of it.” You took the Polaroid from his hand and threw it into the footwell in front of you before making sure to press your shoe over it.
Jake was quiet as he started your car and pulled out of the lot, turning toward the direction of your little bungalow. Maybe you should have been surprised he knew the way—he’d only come over with the rest of the Daggers twice and Bradley had been driving—but for some reason it just made sense. Of course Jake would know. His jaw was shut tight, you could see the tendons working as his teeth ground together. But just as quickly as you noticed it, he relaxed. But he didn’t move to turn the radio to a different station or raise the volume. He just kept driving.
The rollercoaster of emotions you’d just endured had you sagging in your seat. While your tears had slowed to a leaky trickle, they didn’t stop. And you wanted to scream, to rage at the cruelty of it all, but mostly what you wanted to do was crawl into bed after making sure your door and windows were locked.
He’d ruined your night. He had somehow found out you were going to the Hard Deck and had purposefully planted that picture. You were almost surprised that he hadn’t slashed your tires when he had the chance, too.
But it mattered little when Jake pulled into your driveway and handed you your keys after shutting off your car. He followed you up to the small, stone stoop and waited until you waved him in to step inside. You felt his eyes on you as you turned the locks on your door and then double-checked the one on the handle before you wiped at your face. Mascara and foundation smeared against your hand and you grimaced as you noticed it. Fantastic.
“Do you want a drink or something? I’m going to call you an Uber but before then? I have tea, water, and soda I know you won’t drink. I don’t keep alcohol in the house, sorry.” You were rambling, you knew that. But did you stop? No. “I can also order something for delivery, if you want.” You sniffled and tried to resist the urge to wipe at your face again.
Jake’s shoulders rolled as if he were trying to shake off a bug before he shook his head. “Why don’t you go get ready for bed, Punch? I’ll wait out here.”
That sounded like he was staying. And, really, you knew you should be shoving him out the door and into an Uber you knew would take him back to his car and far away from you and the disaster that was your life. But you still nodded, trying to ignore how you liked knowing he’d just be in the living room, waiting. “Feel free to snoop,” you said, retreating down the hall.
“I’m not going to snoop!”
“Yes, you are.”
**
And then, as soon as Jake heard your bedroom door close, he started to snoop. He did have your permission anyway and that half-assed answer you gave him wasn’t sitting right in his gut. Your little house was neat, if not in need of a bit of dusting. Art prints in soft greens and light yellows were hung in straight lines with personal photographs, in smaller silver frames, dotted between. A bookshelf took up an entire wall and was organized by last name…except for the bottom shelf that was mostly empty with just a small stack of lilac spines and silver lettering. Jake bent to get a better look but paused, spotting two large but thin frames tucked behind the bookcase. He tugged one out and saw that it was your undergraduate degree from some university up the coast. The next frame held your Masters Degree. Both were covered in dust and forgotten about. Almost like you had purposefully shoved them away. Carefully, Jake put them back and tried not to think about why you wouldn’t want them displayed, and instead grabbed one of the lilac books. It didn’t have a traditional cover, just the title: Sunlight Filtered Through Champagne. Below it was a small sticker with “ARC” typed out in bold white letters. Turning the book to look at its spine, the author’s name now accompanied the title: Georgia Torrance. There was a small note sticking out of the top and Jake slowly pulled it out to look at. Thought you may want it in your hands! Can’t wait to see what you come up with next! What did that mean?
When he heard your door open again, he was quick to put the note and book back and stand straight, trying to make it look like he was just looking at the thriller paperbacks on the shelf at his eyeline. It looked like you had a grading system on the shelf, too, scribbled on a small post-it note, denoting happy endings and not-so-happy endings. There was also a note to donate all of the not-so-happy ending books.
It was like you needed hope that a bad situation could end on a good note. And then there were all the locks on your door. The handle of a baseball bat was sticking out from under your little couch. Your curtains were not open when you arrived. You couldn’t read thrillers that ended badly because you were living in a fucked up one yourself, weren’t you?
“I got caught up in something above my paygrade.”
The words didn’t sit right with him. This wasn’t some sort of government cover up. This wasn’t a case of you seeing something you shouldn’t have. The note had been too familiar and the photo had been too intimate.
“You look like you’re trying to think,” you said.
Jake turned and almost swallowed his tongue as he looked at you. You’d switched out your sundress for tiny shorts and socks that went up to your thighs. A baggy Navy t-shirt nearly covered your shorts. You looked so soft, so comfortable even with your eyes still a little swollen from your earlier tears. And it twisted at something warm behind his ribs.
“Careful, you might pull something if you try too hard.” The insult was lacking its usual heat but Jake hardly noticed. Something else had gained his attention. A large gnarled scar was peeking out from under your shorts on your left leg. It reached halfway down your thigh and Jake couldn’t see how high up it went. Whatever had happened, it looked like it had hurt immensely. Then he remembered how the slits in your dresses were always on your right side. Your shorts, while tight, always reached your knees. You had been hiding it.
Who had hurt you?
He must have been staring too long because you angled your body away from him and cleared your throat. “I’m gonna call you an Uber. Sorry for my freak out earlier. You coulda been home and asleep by now. Or picking up someone at the Hard Deck. God, I really fucked up your night.”
You were rambling again. And maybe Jake would have found it endearing in any other circumstance but not when you were twisting your hands into the excess fabric of your shirt and shuffling away from him to grab your phone.
Slowly, as to not startle you, Jake reached out and gently took the phone from your hands and set it on the couch cushion. Your face scrunched with your confusion and the divot between your eyebrows only deepened when Jake set his hands on your shoulders. “You gonna tell me what actually happened?”
Your features shifted and shuttered, falling into the casual annoyance you usually wore around him. “I told you-”
“Yeah, you told me something. Now tell me the truth. I was in that car with you tonight, Punch. I saw how scared you were. A picture had you just as scared as nearly getting run off the highway. Tell me what is going on, please.”
Your jaw clenched and you wiggled out from under Jake’s grip. “So you’re calling me a liar now?”
“No! I just-”
“I’m sorry you got pulled into this, okay? I am. I never should have brought you to the party. You never should’ve been in the car.”
You weren’t getting it. He needed you to understand. “I’m glad I was with you! I’m glad you had me with you—but you can’t just tell me that you have it handled or brush it off because-”
“I’m not brushing anything off!” You snarled. “Stop trying to play hero!”
It may have been easier if you had just slapped him. Was that how you saw him? “I’m not playing at anything. But I can’t help you if you won’t let me try.”
The glint in your eyes was near murderous. Jake had only ever seen you look like this once before and it had been when some asshole had yanked on Penny’s arm at the Hard Deck. “Just stop! I-”
“I know something is going on. You can’t convince me otherwise, all right? My mama always said that if you smell smoke, it’s ‘cause there’s a fire.”
You wiped a hand over your eyes and Jake hated how he noticed your chin wobbling. “Your stupid southern colloquialisms do not apply to this situation. There is no smoke!”
Jake stepped forward again and peeled your hand away from your face, sighing as he saw fresh tears lining your lashes. He never wanted to make you cry. Not ever. “There is smoke. And I want to help you. Let me help you.”
You sniffled and looked away from him again but didn’t pull your hands out of his grip. “I don’t fucking understand this metaphor. A-and I don’t want to tell you.”
The words cracked in your throat and Jake only squeezed at your hands. He was here for you. Couldn’t you see that?
“Invisible smoke or not, I’m not going to tell you. I’m not.” You shook your head and finally pulled your hands from his and Jake was prepared for you to step back and tell him to leave, to tell him, again, that you had this handled. Instead, your warm palms pressed against his chest and your tear filled gaze locked on his face. His next breath stalled. God, you were beautiful. “I don’t want to be the one to make you look at me differently. Just…just let me have the rest of this night, okay? I’ll text Bradley and tell him that he can tell you. But just let me have this last night where I’m not some stupid, broken girl in your eyes.”
Jake reached up and settled his hands over yours, noticing how goosebumps raced up your arms when his thumbs brushed against your knuckles. “You could never be. You’ll always be Punch.”
You sighed and almost smiled at him before shaking your head, pulling your hands out from under his. “No, I won’t.”
**
You weren’t entirely sure how you managed to convince Jake to watch a movie with you instead of talking or prying more, but you had a bowl of half eaten microwave popcorn between you on the cushions and The Mummy playing on your television.
This wasn’t how you saw this night playing out. Of course, a person could never really fit a car chase and a quick emotional breakdown into their schedule so, perhaps this was the best possible outcome. As Brendan Fraser’s Rick O’Connell gave Evy a pilfered toolkit in the most adorably awkward manner, your gaze drifted over to Jake.
And he was looking right at you.
Shit. Embarrassed heat washed over you and you quickly looked back at the television.
“C’mere.”
“What?” It was barely more than a squeak and you stubbornly refused to move your gaze away from the television again.
“I know you heard me,” Jake repeated, a bit of a laugh cracking his words. “Come here.”
“I’m not a dog, you know,” you bit back before you could think of being polite. Old habits do die hard.
But it seemed like Jake didn’t particularly care, because he moved the popcorn bowl onto your coffee table and then grabbed at your legs, dragging you over to him with a simple tug. The noise that escaped you was a mortifying mix of a squeak and a yelp and you fell forward with the force of it, hands falling against his arm and shoulder awkwardly. His warm, work-rough hands slid up your thighs, skirting over the scar that still left you grimacing even if the pain had faded years ago, and settled on the curve of your waist. Then, with another simple movement, your thighs were bracketing his and he was looking up at you with the stupid, beautiful sea glass eyes. There was something in his gaze you didn’t recognize.
Or maybe you did and you couldn’t voice it.
“What’re you-”
“You look like you needed a hug.”
You arched a brow and ignored the thundering of your heart. How many times had you thought about something like this only to curse your wandering thoughts? “Oh?”
“Yeah. And I’ve been told I give the best hugs.”
Your mouth twisted to the side—you weren’t sure if you were fighting a smile or a snarl. “Who told you that? Which one of your bed warmers-”
The words stalled behind your teeth when Jake leaned up just enough to wrap his arms around you, warm and solid. And you hated that it immediately brought tears to your eyes. God, how long had it been since someone had hugged you like this? Held you like this? You melted into his grasp like butter on hot toast, going slack against him until your forehead rested on the broad expanse of his shoulder. Jake’s movements halted for a moment. And, if you had been anyone else, you might have said you felt his breath catch. But you knew better.
“This means nothing, you know,” you said, one last ditch effort to not let him know how pathetically easy you were enraptured with his easy touch. “I’m withholding my judgment on if you give good hugs or not.”
You heard him smile before his hands continued their smoothing motions up and down your spine. “Okay, Punch.”
You could have argued a little more. Maybe mentioned how he probably needed a hug more than you or how you wouldn’t feel bad when his legs fell asleep under your weight. But you didn’t. You didn’t because you were so comfortable and your favorite movie was playing in the background and Jake’s cologne smelt so good…who could blame you for falling asleep?
**
You snored. Just a little. It honestly reminded him of like…a baby bear for some reason. But maybe you were just extra tired. Jake wouldn’t be surprised if you hadn’t been sleeping well. Either way, Jake slowly slid one arm beneath your butt and kept the other a little higher on your back and gently lifted you up from the couch; your head lolled to the side and fell against his chest as you let out a heavy breath. Jake pretended not to feel how you rubbed your cheek against him and let out a soft hum. Or maybe he filed that little sound away to think about later. Either way, Jake made his way down the short hallway and pushed open your door with his foot, wincing as its hinges whined.
Your eyes opened the slightest bit as soon as your head hit the pillow and Jake was sure he would never forget the smile you shot at him.
Then he was thinking about waking up every morning to your sleepy, happy smile. He was thinking about carrying you to bed after a long night at the Hard Deck. He was thinking of you. He had always tried to shove those thoughts down. He had tried to ignore them because he knew—he knew—that nothing could come of it. But now he couldn’t. He knew what it was like to hold you in his arms. He could deal with the paperwork, admirals, and ribbing from the Daggers…if it meant he could…well, he’d finish that thought when he knew you were thinking the same thing.
After shutting your door, and making a mental note to pick up some WD-40 for those squeaky hinges, he made his way back to your living room. He picked up the popcorn bowl and washed it out and then straightened the cushions, just like his mama taught him to do. The movie finished as Jake sat on your couch and dug his phone out of his pocket. It was well past one in the morning but he still pulled up Bradshaw’s contact and typed out a message. We need to talk.
He’d probably hear from him in the mor-
His phone beeped with a new message and he was quick to click on the thread. I’m on my way.
Wasn’t he supposed to be out in the desert with Maverick? What did he mean he was on his way?
Apparently Rooster was also psychic because another message came through. Cut trip short. Will be at her house in an hour.
So, Jake waited. He played a stupid game on his phone to pass the time and made sure it was muted so it wouldn’t wake you up. Every time he heard a car pass by, he checked the window. He needed to make sure it wasn’t the charger again and he wanted to meet Bradley at the door so you wouldn’t wake up when he knocked. Five more rounds of the mindless game on his phone and then he was standing up again, and watching a familiar Bronco pull onto your driveway behind your car. He was surprised to see Maverick exit the passenger side but waved them both in when they approached the door.
“Where is she?” Bradshaw asked instead of a greeting.
“She’s asleep,” Jake hissed. “Keep your voice down.”
“Have you checked all the windows?” Maverick asked, voice thankfully at the correct decibel.
“A couple times,” Jake said. Maverick knew too? Was he the only one that didn’t know what you were hiding? “Are either of you going to tell me what’s going on?”
Maverick looked at Rooster but Rooster was looking right at Jake, mouth set in a firm line beneath his ridiculous mustache. “I gotta see her first. All right? We’ll stay with her for the rest of the night.”
That just about crawled all over Jake. He was just going to shove him out? After everything that’s happened tonight? “No. No, this is fucking ridiculous. Tell me-”
“Seresin,” Maverick cut in. “You’ve had a long night. Why don’t you head back to base and get some sleep?”
“I-”
“That’s an order, Lieutenant Commander.”
That simple phrase repeated in his head as he sat in the back of the Uber headed toward the Hard Deck, and when he drove himself home, and as he stared at the ceiling of his bedroom. That’s an order, Lieutenant Commander. What it actually was, was insulting. But he did as he was ordered, knowing that Mav and Rooster were trying to take care of you (and Maverick did have the authority to have him brought up in front of the brass)…but why didn’t they see that Jake was trying to help, too? As he stewed, his phone chirped with a notification from his sister, Mia. It was a picture of her sitting out on a familiar porch swing, the Texas night sky on display over her head as she smiled at the camera. She was holding up a cup—Jake knew it was probably filled with her favorite chamomile blend from a shop a few towns over from the family ranch. Hope you’re getting more sleep than me!
Jake sighed for the umpteenth time. Mia’s ex-husband, a man named Ryan who Jake had never liked, had up and left her for a coworker. She was understandably heartbroken and then when she discovered that Ryan had a child on the way with his mistress while Mia had been struggling to have a baby, she had been near inconsolable. It had taken her nearly a week for Jake and his sisters and mom to get Mia out of bed. It had been slow going to help her get back on her feet, even after the lawyer his mom hired managed to get Mia all of the marital assets and half of Ryan’s monetary savings alongside a hefty alimony. Mia had always been the strongest of his sisters, an older sister to the core, who had truly stepped up when their father had stepped out on their mother. It had been a cruel twist of fate that Mia’s marriage had turned out to mirror their mother’s so closely. Jake spoke with each of his sisters at least once a week, mostly just making sure they were doing okay and to lessen the bit of guilt he had for leaving Texas and them in the rear view when he joined the Navy. After tonight, he could use a little talk with his sister.
Jake hit the small phone icon beneath her name and it rang twice before she picked up. “Please tell me I didn’t wake you up with my text.”
“I was awake.”
“What’re you doing up right now?” She grumbled.
“Had a long night.” That was putting it lightly.
“I thought you were going out with that girl, Punch? Not the girl of your dreams anymore?”
Jake bit back the groan he felt rising in his throat. “I never said that.”
“You didn’t need to. You’re my baby brother and I know you. She a bad kisser or something?”
“We are not in high school and I’m not having this conversation with you,” he grumbled, feeling heat start to flood his face.
Thankfully or not, there was a strange fluttering sound on the other end of the line, followed by a muttered, “shit!”
“Everything okay?” Ryan had shown up at the ranch Mia and their mother now shared more than once, raging about the divorce decree and/or asking for a second chance in the next breath.
“Yeah, just dropped my book.” There was a long sigh and Jake imagined her settling back down onto the well worn cushion in the swing.
“What’re you reading?”
“A book.”
He rolled his eyes but felt a smile pushing at his mouth. She could always make him laugh. “Mia.”
“Jacob.” She snickered before continuing. “The author’s name is Georgia Torrance. She writes romances and if you judge me I’ll figure out a way to get your superiors to ground you from flying for, like, three days at least.”
Jake’s smile widened the slightest bit before something clicked. Georgia Torrance. That was the name on the strange books in your home. Can’t wait to see what you come up with next! You had written them, hadn’t you? Under a fake name, sure, but that was you.
If this were any other situation, Jake would drive back to you and simply ask if had a second job as a writer but he’d been banished from your house by his superior officer. So, he’d just bide his time with that, too, he guessed.
“I think I’ve heard of her. She has a few books, right?”
His sister giggled down the line. “Oh, they’re some of my favorites. Me and a few of the other girls have been getting together, like a book club, to read them. It’s fun.”
Jake smiled. She was doing okay, leaning on her friends. “You like those scandalous books, Mia? Gram would be mortified.”
Mia hushed him, but another giggle softened the blow. “They’re a great escape from the shitstorm of my life right now. Don’t judge me. They really are well written! And they’re so soft, Jake! Like, you can tell the characters actually care about each other.” There was a wistful sigh on the other end. “And she does this thing in all of her books.”
“Thing?”
“Yeah, the hero in some fashion or way, always ends up carrying the heroine to bed. Just to sleep. It is in all of her books. It’s her thing. Her trope, or whatever. It is so romantic.”
The sleepy, happy smile you’d given him flashed in his mind and the smallest bit of tension released in his chest. He had made you smile while doing something you, apparently, thought was romantic.
“Are you okay?” Mia asked, pulling Jake from his reverie.
His answering sigh crackled over the phone and he thought of your smile again. “Don’t worry about me.”
**
Someone was sitting on your bed. You had the vague realization of the weight as you teetered between sleep and wakefulness. “Jake?”
“‘s me, Punch.”
You smacked yourself in the face while attempting to wipe the sleep from your eyes. “Bradley? Aren’t you still supposed to be out in the desert with Captain Mitchell?”
“Yeah.” He sighed. “But my favorite mechanic was apparently auditioning for the Fast and the Furious and we cut the trip short.”
Even in the dark of your room, you could see Bradley smile. “You hate those movies,” you said, hating how your voice started to quake. Hadn’t you cried enough?
“I do. Now, are you gonna tell me what happened? And why fucking Hangman was acting like your guard dog?”
Heat dragged up your neck and you were thankful for the dark of your room so Bradley wouldn’t see you almost smile into your pillow. “Is he still out in the living room?” He’d stayed for you.
“Mav sent him home. Wanted me to tell him everything the second we got in.”
“Why didn’t you?”
Bradley sighed again and his warm hand landed softly on your arm. He squeezed it gently. “Had to make sure you were okay first. You will always be the priority.”
“I shouldn’t be,” you muttered. “God, I’m not worth any of this. You should have seen him tonight, Bradley. He just wouldn’t stop. It was a goddamn miracle I was able to get us out of that without totaling my car. And Jake was just…” Traitorous tears stung at your eyes but you let them fall because Bradley had seen you battered and bloody; he could withstand your tears. “Jake was so nice to me. Patient. He doesn’t deserve to be wrapped up in this. None of you do.”
“Hey,” Bradley started, whispered tone bordering on disappointed. “Stop saying shit like that. I’ve told you this a thousand times: you are worth everything. You deserve better than the shitty hand you were dealt. And remember whose dumbass started all this? Me. It was me.”
“It wasn’t you though,” you said, trying to breathe through the tears still trying to choke you.
But Bradley said nothing else but moved a little closer to you on the bed and pressed a kiss to your forehead. You weren’t entirely sure when you fell back asleep but you woke a few hours later with the first rays of daylight peeking through your curtains. It felt like you’d inhaled brick dust after being battered with said brick. Embarrassment was gnawing on your ribs as you rolled out from under your tangled blankets and set your feet on the floor. Everything had gone off the metaphorical rails last night. And a part of you ached at the thought of not having Jake around, even on the periphery, because you knew he would want nothing to do with you after he knew.
You stretched, hearing your back crack, and padded out toward the kitchen where you’d bet Bradley was waiting. And, yep, he was leaning against your counter, sipping on coffee you only kept in the house for him. His hazel eyes looked you over before he set down the mug, porcelain clacking against the linoleum. “You look like shit.”
“I feel like shit. Where’s Captain Mitchell?” You asked as you stepped into the kitchen, too, intent on getting to the lemon poppy seed muffins you saw sitting on the counter. Bradley’s hand slowly raising to block your path had you whining. “Why are you being me to me? I am in need of food.”
“You’re a brat,” he said with absolutely no heat. “And how many times has Mav said you could call him Pete when we aren’t on base?” He grabbed one of the muffins and shoved it at you. A few crumbs fell to your kitchen floor and you knew you’d have to sweep later. But not now. You took a large bite and almost moaned at the taste of it and continued to ignore Bradley’s question. Maverick was your superior. That was it. Keeping people at arm’s length kept them safe—well, you knew that he knew about your predicament but that didn’t mean he needed to be tangled up in it, too. “He picked those up for you this morning before he went to Penny’s for breakfast. Said Ice mentioned they were your favorite?”
You nodded and felt your lips curling up in a smile between bites. “He and Sarah took me to the bakery about a week after I got stationed here.” Tom had insisted that the poppy seed muffins were the best he’d ever tasted and after one bite, you agreed.
Bradley reached for one and hummed after he took a bite, nodding before taking another.
You two ate in silence for a little longer before Bradley, with his stupid baby cow hazel eyes, looked at you again. “What?”
“I checked the house over. It looks like nothing’s been messed with. But why don’t you come stay with me-”
“No.”
Bradley looked like he was trying not to sigh. “Punch, c’mon. It’ll just be until-”
“Until what, Bradley? I can handle this. He…he’ll probably disappear again and we can just forget this ever happened.”
“He tried to run you and Seresin off the road, Punch. Let me help.”
“You already did! You brought me muffins and checked out my house after staying the night when you should’ve been out in the desert and working on Mav’s plane. And that’s just today. You have done enough.”
Bradley’s eyes narrowed as he shoved the rest of the muffin into his mouth—which was ridiculous! He wasn’t even savoring it!—before sighing. “Fine. But you call me if you need anything, okay? Or Bob.” He then paused and you hated how his brow arched. That always meant he was going to say something he thought was clever but was actually stupid. “Or you could call Hangman.”
Embarrassed heat started to claw at your neck and you tried to ignore it and the knowing look in Bradley’s eyes. “You’re being mean.”
“You are asking me to tell him what the hell you have lurking in the shadows-”
“Don’t say lurking in the shadows. We aren’t in a horror movie.”
“-and you still refuse to see how much that guy is in love with you?”
The heat was now scalding and you were sure that your internal temperature had risen a few degrees, too. “Ken isn’t in love with me.”
“And you’re in love with him.”
Were you in love with Jake? No. That couldn’t be possible because, after everything, you knew that being in love and being loved just wasn’t in the cards for you. And the Navy would never allow it. And Jake was…Jake was your friend. And so far out of your league it was ridiculous. You weren’t his type anyway. And you didn’t have a type but if you did it would probably be…Jake. But you didn’t have time to think about that now because there was a tight feeling in your chest and your eyes were watering again and you knew that you were actually…probably…definitely…pathetically in love with Jake Seresin. Shit.
“Yeah, well, it doesn’t matter if I am or not. None of that matters,” you bit out as you blinked back the tears. “Also, when are you going to tell Natasha how you feel?”
Just as you anticipated, Bradley’s cheeks filled with pink and it was his turn to look away. “I’ve got a plan,” he muttered.
The smallest bit of tension slipped from your spine as you realized your diversion had worked, at least marginally. Bradley did have a bad habit of jumping back to conversations you had thought you had moved on from. Oh well. “So you’re not denying it anymore? No more ‘we’re just friends’ or ‘you’re reading into it,’ now?”
The pink in his cheeks grew darker as he reached out to lightly flick at your arm. “I guess.”
Well, at least you had this small victory. And god knows he had been ignoring his feelings for Natasha for years. You surely hadn’t been the only one to notice; Natasha was just as far gone for Bradley but she at least hid it better. You were sure only you and Bob knew about her feelings. “If I were mean, I’d make you tell me your plan. But I am feeling charitable today and will just wish you the best.”
“You’re such a brat.” He pulled you into a hug and sponged a loud kiss onto your forehead before stepping back. After you told him to go home and actually rest, that you’d be fine for the rest of the weekend, and Bradley once again telling you to call him if you needed anything, he left with a final, “lock your door!” thrown over his shoulder.
And then you were alone again. Your heart gave a startled leap when you heard a car door slam a few moments later but you heard your neighbor’s squeaky front door open and close and pushed out the breath you didn’t know you were holding. Great. You eventually swept the kitchen floors and double checked the windows before making the short trek out to your mailbox to check the mail. You stepped back inside and engaged all the locks before sorting through the small stack of envelopes and advertisements. Most were junk and quickly shredded and then put in the recycling bin. You smiled as you recognized your sister’s handwriting across one of the envelopes. Georgie still maintained that you should FaceTime every other week but her letters were a more frequent occurrence. This one was filled with details about her pregnancy and how her husband is being adorable about setting up everything in the nursery. She asked about your job and if you had any suggestions about what to get for your brother, Danny, for his upcoming birthday. You set the letter aside to flip through the rest of the stack but your heart fell to your feet when you saw the last thing in your hand.
It was another goddamn Polaroid. And part of you wished that it had just been you. Just you trapped in that white box. But no. It was Jake. Just Jake. It was him walking out to your car while you’d still been parked at the Hard Deck last night. Poorly drawn blood was bisecting his neck—it was supposed to look like his throat had been slashed, you assumed. It was a shitty drawing but it got the point across.
He could hurt Jake. He could hurt Jake simply because he was near you.
And you wouldn’t ever let that happen. There’d never been a threat like this before—Bradley and Bob never received one and you had been given no threats for them, either. So, it was just Jake. Just your Ken. You needed to keep him safe. Even if it cracked at something behind your ribs.
With all the subtlety of a freight train, you started avoiding him at work. If he walked in a room, you’d walk out. You bribed other ADs to be the ones to handle Jake’s jet. You didn’t go to the Hard Deck if you knew he was going to be there—which was more often than not. You ignored him whenever he called your name. It created a strange waiting game—you wouldn’t have been surprised if you had been called into Admiral Simpson’s office and reprimanded for disrespecting a superior officer. But weeks trickled by and nothing happened except Captain Mitchell giving you a disappointed look and Natasha asking if you and Jake hooked up and if it was bad enough for you to avoid him. After explaining that there was definitely not a hookup (true) and you definitely weren’t avoiding him (lie), you let yourself believe that you had managed to ghost him enough to keep him safe. When you received another Polaroid of you and Jake from the night of Junior’s party with Jake’s face scratched out and the words “I knew he couldn’t handle you” scrawled across the bottom, you knew you’d made the right choice. Then the next note, a singular scrap of paper tucked into the crease between your front door and its frame, read “all alone again? you never know how to treat them!,” your resolve only strengthened.
He could think you hated him forever as long as he was safe.
You could watch him flirt with every beautiful woman who looked in his direction and ignore how your entire body flinched at the sight as long as he was safe.
He just needed to be safe.
**
It had been three weeks since you had fallen asleep in Jake’s arms. And three weeks since you’d spared him more than a side-eyed glance. Rooster had been acting strange, too. While the other pilot hadn’t been avoiding him exactly, Rooster had volunteered to help Mav with the current Top Gun class and had been squirreled away in his office or in the classroom when not in the air. And while Jake could have metaphorically cornered Rooster by asking him over the comms, he wouldn’t ever bring up your name like that when other people were listening. So, when Maverick decided that the newest class needed to be introduced to Dog Fight Football after three pilots got into a screaming match and nearly collided with Phoenix and Bob during a dogfight simulation, he knew this was an opening he needed to take.
In passing, Jake also took the opportunity to ask if the support crew would be invited and earned an unimpressed look coupled with a, “they have been told that they are encouraged and welcome to come, Seresin.” Jake didn’t even care that Mav probably (definitely) knew what he was really asking because he overheard you telling Fanboy that you’d be there because Penny wanted someone to sit with. Perfect.
And you looked perfect when he saw you the next morning. Sitting on a low rise sun chair with Penny at your side and your toes buried in the sand, you had on that pair of shorts Jake dreamed about and a loose fitting shirt with the Dagger Squadron emblem over your heart. You were beautiful. He wasn’t going to shy away from it any more. No more using ‘special’ to hide everything else he wanted to feel. You were beautiful.
Now, Jake knew he was good looking. There was no arguing that. So, why not use it to his advantage? He strode up to you and watched as you looked at him over the edge of your sunglasses. And your face revealed nothing. You were a stone wall when you craned your neck to look up at him but he was undeterred.
“Hi.”
“Hi, Punch.” He then grabbed the bottom of his shirt and pulled it off, dropping it onto your lap as he subtly flexed, crossing his arms over his chest. “Can you hold that for me?”
You seemed to freeze for a moment before grabbing the shirt and neatly folding it. “Sure.” Then you leaned to the side, completely ignoring him, and shouted, “Bradley! Give me your shirt before it gets wet!” Rooster’s shirt eventually turned into Javy’s shirt, Phoenix’s shirt, and Payback’s shirt, and then you made sure that Bob had enough sunscreen on. And Jake watched all of it happen, little more than another bit of sand on your periphery. Just as he was about to call it quits on this attempt, you called out to him. He turned to you to see you looking at him over the edge of your sunglasses again. “Pull up your shorts. You’re about to give everyone a show.”
Penny let out a choked laugh that she tried to hide behind her hand before Jake tugged at the waistband of his shorts, moving them up marginally.
“There you go, Ken. Now you’re almost suitable for public consumption.”
“I prefer private consumption, Punch.” Jake winked at Penny when she laughed again before turning his attention back to you. “I could give you a free preview after we show these kids how to play nicely with each other.”
Jake watched you roll your lips into your mouth before you turned your head away as you pretended (he was sure!) to straighten the small stack of shirts you had collected. “That’s inappropriate. And you of all people don’t know how to play nicely.”
“Oh, Punch,” Jake said, letting as much of his Texan twang seep into his tone as possible when he leaned down to make sure you could look him in the eye (or ogle him correctly). “I play very nicely.”
You licked your lips and looked away but Jake saw your throat bob. “Make sure to tackle Royal into the sand,” you said, mentioning one of the Top Gun pilots who had been involved in the screaming match. “He’s been acting up with the other ADs.”
Well, that was a start. Maybe. “You got it, Punch.”
Then, forty-two seconds into the game, Jake did just that. He looked back at you to see you hiding a laugh behind your hands while Penny roared beside you as Royal yelled about getting sand in his mouth.
The game continued and the grumpy group of pilots eventually started to get along–not as well as the Dagger Squad, but they were something special. Maverick seemed to agree with the exasperated look he shared with Jake and Rooster when they finally called it a day. Penny invited them all up to the Hard Deck for a drink and that seemed to smooth the rest of the rough edges this group came in with, or at least most of them. Maverick bought the first round but Jake was quick to buy another for the Dagger Squadron when that was quickly drained. And, because he was definitely trying to track you through the steadily growing crowd (covertly), Jake spotted you at one of the hightops outside on the deck. Bob and Phoenix were with you, laughing at something you said.
That was the happiest he’d seen you in weeks. Your smile was actually reaching your eyes—your eyes that finally had that light in them that had been missing.
A hand fell onto his shoulder and Jake swung around to see Bradshaw handing him another beer. Even though Jake was less than halfway into the one he already had. “Thanks, man.”
Rooster nodded and took a long pull from his beer before glancing at you, too. He rolled his shoulders before waving his bottle toward the door that led out to the beach. “Let’s talk.” He led Jake onto the sand with quick steps and then stopped just short of the water’s edge.
The other man was quiet for a stretched moment, quiet long enough for Jake to think he wasn’t actually going to say anything but-
“She saved my life.”
Jake tried to process the words before a scratchy “what?” was pulled out of his throat.
Bradshaw took another pull from his beer and then set the empty bottle into the sand by his feet. “The mechanic assigned to me when we were overseas talked a big game—his dad was some big shot who was buddies with the brass at the Pentagon. Name was Luke. He was a shit mechanic, to tell you the truth. Punch would sometimes come in behind him, usually after hours, and double check everything he did. I would talk to her whenever I caught her doing it. She was embarrassed and asked me not to tell anyone and for a few weeks I just didn’t see her, didn’t think anything of it, really. Maybe because I thought she was finally doing something about all the bruising I kept seeing crop on her face. She changed the subject when I asked her once if she was okay.” Jake knew what self-loathing sounded like and right now it was bleeding out of Bradshaw’s every word.
“Then, one day, we get sent out. I run in and half-ass my preflight checks because I was a stupid kid who wanted to make a name for himself. I wasn’t always so careful.” He bared his teeth for a moment. “Stupid. I was so stupid. I’m about to get into the slingshot and she just darts out in front of me, waving her arms and screaming something I can’t hear. She nearly gets taken down by MPs and other officers and I’m fuming, I’m so mad that the rest of my squadron get to go out and I’m grounded by some crazy mechanic.” He shook his head before his hands curled to fists at his sides. “But I’ll never forget how desperate she sounded, screaming that the routine maintenance I would have been needing for the past three weeks hadn’t been done properly. He had been drunk in the hangar. For weeks. When my commander looked my plane over, he said I was lucky I wasn’t sitting in a goddamn body bag. It was a ticking time bomb.”
Jake’s heartbeat was echoing in his ears as he looked at Bradshaw. But more was yet to come.
“I found her trying to hold her leg together just outside the hangar. That asshole took a pair of pliers and…” Rooster’s hand twisted and jerked and Jake could imagine the sharp tool moving like that, moving against you. “He did it just to…just to make her bleed and try to make her apologize for saving my life. One of her eyes was swollen shut and she…” His mouth twisted to the side as if he needed to compose himself before continuing. “She could barely tell me who did it to her before she passed out. Punch was in medical for a week. They wouldn’t let me see her; the only visit I got was from two star who asked what I knew. The next thing I know, she’s been sent back to her shore station and Luke’s disappeared, too. It took me months to learn that all that guy got was a damn Letter of Admonishment and a commercial flight back home.”
“That’s it? That’s all he got?” Rage punctuated each syllable, an unmistakable and inescapable heat starting to burn in his chest.
Rooster scrubbed a hand down his face before continuing. “And what makes it fucking worse is that she was dating him. Dating himand coming to the hangar looking like she’d just gone three rounds with a heavyweight and I didn’t connect the dots until that two star let it slip.”
The rageful heat in Jake’s chest splintered as he thought of you being hurt like that by someone you trusted. How could someone do that to you while claiming to love you? How could anyone do that?
“This was my fault. Mine. She may think it is all hers but if I had asked her just one more time if she needed help, I could have had Luke dishonorably discharged and Punch would be…”
Safe.
Healthy.
Unafraid.
“She was so in love with him and he made her believe he would be the only one who could ever love her. Got it in her mind that no one else would ever lower themselves to love her.”
There was a pointed look shot in his direction that Jake tried to not read too much into (right now).
But Rooster pressed on. “I took a gamble and called Tom…Admiral Kazansky,” he quickly reiterated. “He’d been just about as constant in my life as he could be, you know. Always said I could call if I needed anything. And I just needed her safe.”
The strange look in Rooster’s gaze kept Jake quiet despite the dozens of questions running through his mind.
“He learned what happened and what she did and the next day she gets orders to Hawaii. Then to Kitsap in Washington. The furthest east she got was Fallon in Nevada. She was firmly planted under Kazansky’s oversight. I thought it would keep her safe.”
“But she kept volunteering for deployments,” Jake said after Bradshaw fell into an agitated quiet, like he was searching for words. He didn’t think that your throwaway anecdote from the engagement party would mean this.
“That piece of shit somehow found out where she was going to be at a port call and arrived the day before she was supposed to get back on the carrier. He nearly strangled her to death.”
The murmured stories you had half heartedly given were starting to create a through line. “That was when Bob stepped in. He said they met on deployment.”
Rooster nodded. “Apparently that LoA was to blame for Luke not getting promoted. He blamed her. It didn’t matter that she could have gone in front of the brass and had him court martialed. It didn’t matter that she took money from his just-as-shitty father to keep her quiet. He still saw her as the reason he was given a goddamn slap on the wrist for nearly killing us both. She was still the one that managed to get away. He should be in prison and he was mad about not making rank. Bob was the one who dragged him in front of the brass but that basically amounted to nothing. Again. She refuses to go to the cops because she thinks they’ll just brush it off or cover it up like everyone else does.” He knocked his foot against the empty bottle for a moment before turning to look at you back on the deck. Jake looked, too, seeing you let Phoenix drag you around in a dance. You threw your head back with a laugh as you nearly fell. Bob was cheering you both on. “Kazansky then had her stationed here,” Bradshaw said as they both turned back to look at the ocean. “It was a smart move. Kept her safe. The pilots never stayed but the ADs rarely rotated out. She saw it as a glass half full type of situation—she was trusted with the planes of the best pilots in the Navy but she wouldn’t have the opportunity to deploy as often, if at all. I’m pretty sure Kazansky had Luke shadowbanned from any of the stations he oversaw.”
But now Admiral Kazansky was dead, that was unspoken.
“And now Luke’s back.” The words sounded muffled to Jake’s ears as he said them. His heart thudded against his ribs as his stomach twisted. Luke was back. You were in danger. There was no denying it now.
“He is. And she seems to think that you’ve gained that douchebag’s attention and she just wants to keep you safe,” Bradshaw continued, an edge of exasperation starting to soak each syllable. “You are both so fucking stupid-”
“Hey.”
“-but I need you to help keep her safe, yeah? She’s going to fight you on it. Even more than she has already. But-”
“I’ll do it.” The words punched out of Jake with his next breath. And he meant it. “Whatever you think I need to do, I’ll do it.”
His wingman almost smiled at that. Almost. But he shook his head instead. “Seresin-”
“Punch?”
Both Jake and Bradshaw whipped their heads around back to look at the deck.
“Punch?!” Phoenix was leaning over the railing to crane her neck to the side in search of you, presumably. Bob was doing the same in the opposite direction but his face was scrunched in something almost like fear. “Punch?”
You appeared around the corner, balancing a tray of new drinks for your little group. Both Phoenix and Bob’s faces relaxed as they took the offered drinks, each kissing your cheek in thanks. As you set the tray down and said something to them Jake couldn’t hear before you turned just enough to see Jake looking at you. The carefree smile on your face faded as you glanced at Rooster at his side. You knew he had been told. Your chin tucked to your chest before you abruptly turned back to your other friends.
You truly thought he wouldn’t still want you?
That rage returned, burning behind Jake’s ribs. Not at you. Never at you. At Luke who had beaten you down physically and emotionally hard enough for you to believe that no one would love you.
But Jake was here. He would always be here. Waiting for you.
A/N: thank you for reading! Please let me know what you think!

Lose it all
MV1 x fém!reader
Warnings: none, just severely sweet fluff
Intro: this is inspired by the song Lose It All by Sam Tompkins.. (wonderful song) Max and his girlfriend y/n have grown incredibly close in the last few years of your relationship, and Max is thinking about taking the next step.
A/n: This one is incredibly cheesy and relatively short, this is just something I was thinking about writing for a while now and just decided to go ahead with it. Enjoy mates!
You and Max had been friends for as long as you could remember; playing in the same streets as kids, having dinner at each other's houses, karting together, you did everything together. From the moment you could both walk, you were inseparable. Max's parents were family friends that lived right across the street from you. Both of them joked that you would grow up to marry one day, and to their expectations, you had both been dating for the last three years.
Recently, however, your mother had been pushing the topic a bit harder You weren't sure if you and Max were ready for marriage yet. Of course, you wanted to marry him eventually, but what if that wasn't mutual?
"You've been together for three years now," you recalled her saying. "don't you think it's time to take the next step? I'm not getting any younger, you know."
She insisted that you'd have children in the next few years, insisted that we needed to start planning a wedding.
While all of that was all well and good, you couldn't help but ask yourself if Max really wanted to marry you or not. Your mother was right, it had been three years, and he hadn't made a move to propose yet. In your mind, this equated to the conclusion that Max must not want you after all.
You sat on the bed that the two of you shared, a tear threatening to fall from your eye. You felt stupid for even thinking about this, you knew Max loved you, but you couldn't help but shake the doubt away.
You had started to reel through your memories with him, feeling heartbroken already. On your first date, Max had been trying to impress you with his athletic ability. What better way to do that than with Wii Bowling? You had been playing together for only twenty minutes before Max, who had insisted the strap on the remote was unnecessary and refused to put it on, launched the remote into your television.
After profusely apologizing, your first official date was spent shopping for another TV that Max insisted on buying you.
You felt the tears pouring now, reliving the memories of your first kiss.
Max's weekend at home had finally come after months of waiting. He had been talking for months about how he couldn't wait to celebrate with his grid mates and introduce me to them all after he had finally won his own grand prix; but instead, he had spent it playing nurse and watching over you.
"The only thing I could think about the entirety of that race was getting back to you to make sure you were okay.."
You had grown ill before the race weekend, causing your own discouragement. This was going to be your first race watching Max in person, and you couldn't have been more excited. Though, you had been bed-ridden by the doctors an forced to watch from your apartment once again.
Max sped back here as soon as he could, hoping not to be gone too long away from you. The thought alone made your cheeks redden, even though there was the biggest knot of guilt forming in your stomach.
"Go celebrate, Max. This is your first home win!" He smiled widely, cupping my cheek.
"I'd rather be sick with you." He pressed his lips to mine gently, not caring about the consequences that might come along with it.
The door to your bedroom swung open, revealing a clearly concerned Max behind it.
"Schatje, what's wrong? In a second you were in his arms, so tightly you were worried you might've suffocated. "Why are you crying?" He kissed your head tenderly.
You hadn't even realized you were crying as hard as you were until you were practically sobbing into Max's chest.
"I can't lose you Max." You could barely even get your words to form from your quivering lips. He laughed a little, sending you into a confused state. "I'm serious!" You gave him a hurt glance. "Why would I being going anywhere, y/n?" He cupped your cheek, forcing you to look up at him. His eyes were full of nothing but worry for you, that alone made you start crying again.
"It's been three years, Mum says she's starting to worry we won't make it. She says you would have proposed by now."
Max gave you a knowing glance, heaving a sigh.
"Your mother isn't the one to make that call, Schatje." He gave me a smile, standing from our position on the bed. "Come on, lets get you cleaned up."
He pulled you into the bathroom, sitting you on the sink counter. He opened the drawers, grabbed the makeup wipes and started wiping the remnants of your tears and mascara off of your face. Afterwards, he took a damp towel and wiped the residue away.
"Stay here, I'll be right back." He gave your hand a little squeeze before disappearing back into the bedroom. After a few long moments, he came back with one of your favorite, blue sundresses. You were a little confused at first, but took the dress nonetheless. You were sure Max was planning something, but you didn't know how this was going to aid the question at hand.
He couldn't be avoiding it, could he?
With that newfound doubt as you looked in the mirror, you refused to cry again, already seeing the sadness growing in your eyes as Max walked back into the bathroom to check on you. This time, he had a pair of your favorite heels that he handed you eagerly. You put them on, still eyeing him skeptically.
...
...
...
After a few hours of driving and every attempt at asking Max where the two of you were going, you eventually pulled into a beautiful grass field.
A beautiful grass field in the middle of nowhere.
You looked over at Max, praying that he wasn't some serial killer in disguise the entirety of your life. Though, if he was, props to him, he had played the part exceedingly well.
"Wait here, y/n." So you did.
You sat in the car for about ten minutes, hearing Max messing around in the boot before finally coming around to the passenger side door and opening it for you. He offered his hand to help you out of the car.
"M'lady." He grinned at you, the biggest grin you've ever seen. You couldn't help but give a small smile back regardless of the worry that had manifested itself inside of your heart. You let him pull out of the car, revealing a beautiful landscape all around you.
"Ahem." You heard Max clear his throat from behind you. You turned around, revealing a picnic basket and a blanket under one of the trees behind where you had parked. You smiled broadly at Max.
"You took me all the way out here just to make me feel better?" You felt your heart swell with joy. How had you ever doubted this man..
He took your hand tenderly, leading you over the blanket.
You both ate together, talking every so often, sipping on wine that made you feel so elegant you could hardly stand it. Though, after a while, you eventually both sat in a comfortable silence, holding each others' hand in peace. Then, Max's voice broke through the silence.
"You asked me earlier if I had only brought you out here to make you feel better.." He started, looking over at me as if to ask if he could continue. You hummed in agreement before he continued, pulse quickening as you had started to question how this would fix your worries once again. "I'd actually been planning this for a while now. I wanted to get you out somewhere nicer but, after what you had said earlier..." His voice trailed off, his eyes falling to the ground.
You felt that twinge of guilt swell back up in your gut.
"I figured being away from people and their opinions would be good for us." To my surprise, he looked at you with another one of his beautiful smiles. You could feel the ice melting from your heart. Max had started to look a little nervous.
"When I look into your eyes, the only thing that I can see is perfection. I'd thank whatever God was out there that you were mine this moment, and I'd beg the same God to allow you to stay mine for the next. You've been on my mind for the last three years, giving me nightmares every night that you'd walk away if I kept prolonging this. After hearing the reason you were upset this afternoon, I knew I couldn't wait any longer, because if I were to lose you, I'd lose it all." He wiped a tear from his eye, pulling a small box from his pocket. "Will you marry me. y/n"
You barely even gave him time to finish his question before you tackled him in a hug.
"Yes, a million times yes!" You were both emotional, giggling messes before Max pulled away for long enough to slip the ring on your finger, causing more tears to escape your eyes.
"Now you know why I never answered your question." He whispered, kissing you softly as you both watched the sun disappear behind the horizon. "I'm sorry that I worried you further, if I had. I just didn't want to give anything away."
"I'm just glad that I was only overthinking and it wasn't a reality." He chuckled.
"Like I said, Schatje, we're the ones that determine whether or not we are going to make it and how far we go. Let's not listen to anyone else about that, yeah?" You smiled up at him, a tear falling once more as you leaned in to kiss him.
"Yeah."
... I won't grow up missing a piece of my heart that you hold
... I won't have these nightmares because I let you know
... That if I ever lose you, I lose it all

Thursday Bangers (But I'm a week and a bit late)
I am so late on on this one. I'm sorry, I couldn't get a feel for this. And I guess instead of fluff I ended up with some sort of weird wistfulness, where is this even coming from? Either way it's LacexRook adjacent, Lace-centric because the best Scout in Thedas deserves absolutely all the love she can get.
Many thanks @serstolas and @chaosherald for the tags and sorry again for not keeping up >.> I guess I'm not going to tag anyone because there's already a new banger out there ^^'
Rules: Free from a blurb or drawing based on the weekly lyrics prompt. It doesn't have to include the prompt just whatever you're inspired to write, write it! Then tag some friends so they can play as well. It doesn't have to be finished on Thursday just post it whenever you can (you have a whole week between Thursdays)
And I'd give up forever to touch you , 'Cause I know that you feel me somehow, You're the closest to Heaven that I'll ever be , And I don't wanna go home right now ~ Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls
The winding corridors of the ancient thaig sprawled endlessly through the earth. Shadowed passages touched by neither light nor living things since their creation. The caves-ins so large that they could easily house the entirety of Denerim or Val Royeaux, rocks split apart like a jaw waiting to snap close at any moment. An echoing sound of water dripping from the crack in the stone. A promise of a stalagmite about to begin forming. Ground shifting and whispering in motion so slow no living could notice.
Countless critters going about their lives, undisturbed by the politics, wars and ever coming ends of the world. A family of nugs scattering in panic as a deepstalker pack burst into a cave. A giant spider wrapping its eggs in layers of silk with care.
Hushed voices singing old dwarven rhymes in something more akin to reverence than song. Words repeated for generations even when their meaning was lost to history.
Neither time nor space seemed to matter as she–who was named Lace Harding–seemed to stretch well beyond her own comprehension. There was peace in the overwhelming sensation of being everything and nothing at once. Isatunoll. The proclamation of existence.
The Titans who have sung the world into being have long fallen into slumber but life they sprung continued regardless. A cacophony of sound where there was one song before. A struggle to survive when there used to be only coexistence. Different, not wrong.
To let go of the hurt and the pain would have not been so bad. To allow herself to join the ever beating heart of the creation and let the lyrium flow freely to give rise to another Titan Heart. It would have been better than any promise of the Maker’s bosom that she’d heard from the Chantry folk. To be one with the Ancestors even if the Sheparate got everything about it wrong.
But this was not what Lace Harding wanted for herself after all.
She’d made a choice and she was ready to face the consequences–she probably would let herself go without hesitation—if not for one minor detail. Rook said he loved her. Said they’d move to Ferelden and have a farm and a bunch of goats.
And she wanted it.
It wouldn’t be grand. Or ethereal. Or filled with hidden purpose threading between every rock. But it would have been theirs. Better than anything she could have ever imagined. So she pulls herself away. Away from the Stone, the Ancestors and the Titans. Reshaping herself back into Lace Harding–a dwarven Scout, a friend, a gardener.
The Titans are patient. They will wait for their daughter’s return.
And she was not yet ready to go home.

"Home Is You."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing; valeria garza x afab! reader
warnings; nothing really, it's just pretty fluffy because i'm yearning for some domestic content :') and because my cramps are killing me.
summary; that time of month always sucks. you swear that your own body is trying to kill you, with the way your cramps manage to leave you bedridden. but your amazing girlfriend takes the day off to watch over you.
Tumblr media
NOTHING COULD DESCRIBE THE HELLISH PAIN YOU WERE IN THIS MORNING. The way that it felt like somebody was squeezing your insides, and every little movement somehow managed to make it worse. Just laying still did very little to soothe your cramps. You'd simply be laying still, and suddenly the wave of nausea would hit you like a train. Your eyesight and sense of smell were also heightened for whatever reason, making you more vulnerable to the nausea and headaches.
After awhile of trying to lay in a comfortable position, you gave up, just simply laying in the quiet bed, your eyes shut. Somewhere in the messy bedsheets, the sound of your phone buzzing caused you to perk up. A loud sigh left you, and you began to lazily pat the bed, searching for it. Maybe it was just a phone notification or something of the like. But on the rare chance that it was Valeria, you always checked. She hardly messaged when she was working or doing business, but there were those times she'd slip away to talk with you for a few moments.
Finally, your hand managed to locate the phone, and you lifted it besides your face, turning on the screen. The message icon popped up, revealing a message from the one person on your mind. Her.
"Good morning mi amor. You feeling any better than earlier?"
"more miserable actually, my stomach wants me dead."
"I'm sorry I had to come in today, but I'll make it up to you. Do you need me to pick you up anything?"
"bottles of ibuprofen and a vitamin water please?"
"Alright, I'll see you after awhile hermosa. I hope you're drinking your water."
And with that, you shut off your phone. It'd be hours until she'd come home, and that's if there wasn't some urgent matter that needed her attention. Maybe it was best to try and nap again for half the day. It was better and more appealing than suffering for the entirety of it. After a bit of a struggle, you found a comfortable position, dozing off for a good hour or two. It wasn't until you felt the shift in the mattress that you stirred, rolling over to see what it was.
Valeria stared back, smiling a bit, moving herself closer to you. Wrapping her arms around you, she gently pulled you on top of her, your head on her chest. Her warmth and scent brought a bit of comfort, and you sighed contently.
"You look like shit."
"I sure feel like it."
One of her hands was already in your hair, weaving through it, gently massaging and scratching your scalp with her manicured nails, while the other rubbed your lower back. That was the thing with you. She couldn't stand seeing you in pain, even if it was something uncontrollable like menstrual cramps. Business and everyone could wait, if you needed her, she'd come with no hesitation. Cruel and heartless, she could be with anyone else. But with you, she allowed herself to let her guard down. To be loved.
After a few moments of silence, she pressed her lips to your forehead, just living in the moment. With the way your breaths were slow and quiet, she already knew you'd fallen asleep. Not that she minded, your skin was pale, and your eyes had exhaustion written all over them. Maybe after you woke up, she'd take you into the kitchen to make something small and pick out a show. Anything you wanted.

How Could I Not Love You?
Pairing: rockstar!joel miller x actress!reader
Author’s note: this isn’t my favorite but I miss them desperately
Summary: “You do not have to be good. You do not have to walk on your knees for a hundred miles through the desert repenting. You only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves.” [2.5k]
Warnings: newborn stuff, angst, the Garcia-Long family coming in clutch, god they are so in love it hurts, smutty dialogue toward the end but no smut because I chickened out
Tumblr media
You don't know that you've ever been this tired. The girls have been in the world for a whopping two and a half months, and you feel like you've been awake for the entirety of those two months. None of the Miller kids are particularly good sleepers— even Sarah didn't sleep through the night until she was two and a half, which Joel conveniently forgot to tell you when you talked about having kids— but with the addition of the girls, it feels much harder. They wake up at different times throughout the night to feed, get changed, or be held, which complicates the rotation. Also, Sam's sleep schedule has regressed, and he's up at random times. Having three under five is not all it's cracked up to be.
You love Joel, and you love watching him be a dad, but your relationship has suffered through the just-barely-surviving stage of having newborns. You try to make time to watch a movie or just talk, but whenever you do, someone starts crying. Even if you're able to sit down for more than five minutes without a kid needing something, you're half-asleep and in no shape for a conversation.
It didn't hit you how much of a toll it's taken on you until you were up for one of the late-night feeds with Violet, and he lay there, watching you through the darkness. You turned to look at him and reached out with your free hand to smooth down some stray hair. He smiled sleepily and turned to kiss your wrist before whispering, "I miss you." You wanted to say that he doesn't need to miss you, and you're right there, but you weren't. Not really.
"I miss you, too," you whispered back, feeling the sting of the truth on the back of your tongue. You wanted to say more—to remind him how much you love him and tell him how you couldn't do this without him—but Sophia's tinny cry closed the window of opportunity before it could fully open.
You love your kids. You couldn't imagine anything better than watching them grow and interact with each other. They are so wanted and loved, but it still feels really fucking hard. You're sitting on the couch, feeding a baby while Joel bounces another and plays Army men with Sam, feeling like a horrible wife and mother, when the lock turns on your front door and your second family enters.
Carolina, Ryan, Elizabeth, Victoria, and Penelope descend upon your living room like well-meaning vultures, and you give them a confused look. Penelope immediately runs to Sam, and they embrace in their awkward toddler way before they scurry off to his room to play. Victoria, now nine and looking more like Carolina every day, gushes over Daisy. Elizabeth, in her teenage grace, plops down next to you on the couch and squeezes you, trying not to disturb Sophia too much.
"What are you doing here?" You ask Carolina, looking at her like she's a saint, and she smiles.
"I heard you could use a break," she says. You're about to argue with her and insist that you've got everything under control, but she stops you. "We have two and a half adults, play buddies for Sam and Daisy, and nothing to do for the rest of the day. Plus, I've been itching to hold a baby." She explains. You turn to look back at Joel, who is now babyless and standing next to a baby-equipped Ryan, and give him a look.
"Did you do this?" You ask.
"Would it be the worst thing in the world if we went to dinner alone?" Just the idea of an actual dinner is enough to make you waver. You've both been living off of takeout and Sam's leftovers since the girls were born, and you're dying for a change of scenery. There's more than enough frozen breastmilk in the fridge for the girls, and they're at ease with their aunt and uncle. Sam is ecstatic to have someone to play with, and Daisy looks excited to get some attention. Surely, a few hours couldn't hurt.
"Fine, but you can't make me wear pants."
"Wouldn't dream of it," Joel says. Once Sophia is done feeding, you hand her off to Carolina and show Elizabeth where everything is. They don't need a rundown of everything a newborn needs, but it makes you feel better to ramble about their routine to make sure it all gets done.
With all the kids placated, you and Joel sneak off to your room to change out of the clothes you've been wearing for God knows how long. You put on a maxi dress and spray dry shampoo in your hair while Joel buttons up a nice shirt.
"Thank you," you say as you put on earrings, glancing at him in the mirror. “You didn't have to do this." He gives you a confused look but shakes it off with a quick kiss to your cheek.
"I wanted to. You deserve a break."
"We deserve a break," you correct, and he hums as he wraps an arm around your waist. Even though he hasn't been dealing with postpartum and breastfeeding problems, he's still been in the trenches with you. For a quiet minute, you stand together and take a breath for the first time in months. Yeah, you desperately needed this.
You quickly finish getting ready before your plans can get thwarted and are shooed out of the house by Carolina and Ryan. They promise to text you updates and have everyone in bed on time, but don't pressure you to come home early. "We've got this," Carolina says with enough conviction that you can believe her. Still, your anxiety spikes once you're down the driveway, and you have to convince yourself that everything is okay. Joel grabbing your hand and asking you a question pleasantly distracts you.
The autumn sun slowly sets over the California hills and casts a golden glow over Joel's face, catching the grays in his hair and beard beautifully. He's fifty now and older than he ever thought he'd be. He told you as much on the night of his birthday, along with his fears of being an older dad and husband. "I just don't wanna miss anythin'," he said. You reminded him that he was only fifty and he's in exceptional health for someone who spent most of his thirties and forties making music and bouncing around the world on tours. Plus, aging looks good on him.
You talk about little things like how he's scribbled lyrics onto a notepad he keeps beside the bed or how Daisy has adjusted to having three little kids around instead of one. You're in the middle of saying something when he makes a familiar turn, and you can't stop the laugh from leaving you as the restaurant comes into view.
"Are you serious?" You ask, looking at him with a big smile, and he shrugs.
"What?" He asks, as if he's not stopping in front of the restaurant where you had your first (contractually obligated) date.
"Joel, we haven't been here in…" you trail off as you do the mental math before gasping. It's ten years to the day of your first date. Guilt immediately pools at the base of your spine, but Joel just sits there with a smirk on his face. "Oh, my God, I'm so sorry. I didn't even realize. I've been so caught up with Sammy and the girls and-" he leans over the center console and kisses you before you can continue rambling.
Normally, you make it a point to remember days like this. Your first date, breaking up, getting back together, getting engaged, getting married, all of it. That's why it's so shocking that you forgot about it, and on a milestone year, no less.
"I'm so sorry." You say, and he shakes his head.
"I didn't say anything, so it could be a surprise," he says. "I called Caro and Ryan about a month ago to set this up, and I rented out the whole restaurant, so it's just us. We don't have to worry about cameras or fans or anythin'."
Of fucking course, he would do something like this. You sigh and drop your head to his shoulder.
"I didn't even get you anything." You mumble guiltily. He chuckles and kisses your temple.
"You just had two of my kids. I think that's more than enough." He says. You could spiral about feeling like a bad partner (how could you forget when your life together started?), but you have plenty of time for that. For dinner, however, you're on the clock. So, you push the thoughts away for now and stare at your husband fondly.
"I love you so much it's stupid," you say, and he smiles.
"Right back atcha, baby." He says. Much like he did on your first date, he gets out first and gives the car keys to the valet before opening your door for you. You take his arm and walk into the restaurant with him. There's no need for a hostess since there's only one table set up in the space, and it's impossible to miss it. Beautiful flowers surround the table, already set with a bottle of wine and a bouquet of red roses like the ones he turned up at your door with. He pulls your chair out for you and steals a kiss before moving to the other side of the table. Light, romantic music plays over the speakers, and the candle flickers in the middle of the table. It's perfect.
The bottle of wine is from the year you were married, and it has a special label bearing both your names. You haven't had any wine for almost a year, and Joel, knowing this, evidently pulled out all the stops. He pours each of you a glass and raises it in a toast. "Thanks for going on a second date with me," he says, and you laugh.
"Thanks for giving me a reason to." You say and clink your glass against his. The wine is amazing, and it's not just because you haven't had any in so long. You spend some time catching up with each other and talking about nothing important until a very nice waiter comes by to take your orders. Besides the waiter coming and going, you're left alone with Joel, with nobody crying or asking you for anything. It's nice, if not a little strange.
You take your time eating and drinking and giving Joel your full attention. You laugh together and get butterflies when he kisses your hand or brushes his knee against yours. It's a little silly to get so worked up over such small gestures, but it's been a hot second since you've had adult time, so you figure it's fair. God forbid you still find your husband attractive.
In the middle of dessert, a special request of Texas Trash Pie— which doesn't come close to his mother's but is still delicious— you look up from the dish and find whipped cream in his beard. You snort a laugh at the sight, and Joel furrows his brows.
"What?" He chuckles. You gather your napkin in your hands and reach out to wipe his face, not unlike you do with your son, and he blushes a little when he realizes what was making you laugh. "Can't believe you still like a mess like me." He says before taking another bite and somehow getting more on his face. Once you're full and pleasantly tipsy from the wine, you scoot your chair closer to Joel, and his hand finds a home on your thigh.
You can't stop staring at him. You track the changes you've watched unfold over the past decade: a little more grey on his temples, the creases next to his eyes a little more prominent, and his hair a little longer. He still has that indescribable sparkle in his eye that you think can only be a product of his joy. Your heart squeezes when it only intensifies as he looks at you.
"We've been together a long time," you say, and he hums. "Ten years, five kids, one dog, three finished albums, and one in the works."
"And four movies, an Academy Award, and how many others?" Joel chimes in, never the one to just accept praise, and you roll your eyes playfully.
"Yeah, yeah. Whatever," you say, making him smile. You grab his left hand and trace his gold wedding band back and forth and back and forth a few times before you look at him again. "I mean, considering everything, we've done pretty well for ourselves. Can you handle ten more years with me?"
"I'd take a hundred more years with you." He says so quickly it takes your breath away. "I'd do it all over again if it meant this would be our life."
"Even though we have to change shitty diapers and get no sleep?" You ask, the question betraying the sudden tears, and he laughs.
"There are worse things." Like thinking you'll never see each other again. Like running out of time. Like never seeing him in our children's faces. Yeah, there are much worse things. You take a deep breath and squeeze his hand.
"I love you." You whisper like you told him you missed him not even a week ago.
"I love you, too." He whispers back as he kisses you sweetly. The waiter lets you linger for another half an hour before dropping the check and very politely tells you they'll be closing soon. Joel leaves a big tip as an apology for staying so late and personally thanks all the staff who worked to make this possible. He's all Southern charm and manners, even as you leave the restaurant and wait for the car.
"Thank you for tonight." You say, and Joel gives you a look.
"Y'know, we don't have to go back just yet. The kids are all in bed. Carolina and Ryan said to enjoy each other." He says, and you squint at him, a smirk pulling on your lips.
"And what would we do with all that extra time?"
"I might've reserved a room in a hotel nearby, just in case. We can order breakfast to the room early and be home before the kids wake up."
"Do Caro and Ryan know about this?" You ask, but you already know the answer. You scoff a little and shake your head before stepping close to him. "You must've been really desperate to fuck your wife to plan all this, huh?" Your lips brush against the shell of his ear, and you swear, you feel him shudder.
"Don't worry, baby. I'm gonna take such good care of you."
