(Since I am super bored and no one actually asks me questions I have went ahead and filled them all out.) 001. When is their birthday? 3rd Sun of the 6th Astral Moon 002. Do they do anything to celebrate their birthday? Not normally. 003. Does your character like coffee better, or tea? Tea 004. Do they prefer being alone or with others? It really depends on the moment. Ryo likes her privacy and does not like huge crowds. She does like spending time with her loved ones. 005. Are they in good health? Yes 006. What sense do they most rely on? Sight/smell 007. Is your character an optimist or a pessimist? Depends on the situation. 008. What is their favorite fairy tale? N/a 009. Do they believe in happy endings? Not really 010. Do they believe in love at first sight? Not in the normal aspect. She believes that there is a connection between souls, not always pertaining to love. Even with that connection, love is something that requires work. 011. How would your character court the person of their dreams? She already has the person of her dreams… though their start was not "fairytale" material. 012. What makes your character embarrassed? If your character saw someone drop a large sum of money and knew that they could probably take it without anyone noticing, what would they do? There was a time when she would have THOUGHT about keeping it… Now Ryo makes a pretty decent living from her paintings and adventuring on the side. 038. What bad habits do they have? 039. Does your character have any chronic medical conditions? No 046. How do they handle getting sick? Ryo usually does not show that she is sick. If she gets sick she normally powers through it… That is until she pushes herself too far and gets even more sick. She then becomes a sick child who wants nothing more than to be held and to sleep. 047. What was the last medical problem your character had? N/a 048. Do they have any allergies? No. 049. How does your character feel about growing old? She is indifferent. 050. How does your character feel about their own mortality? Ryo doesn't really think about it. She knows that on every mission that she goes on it is something that can happen but she doesn't dwell on it. 051. If they knew they would die tomorrow, what would they do today? Ryo isn't one who would do crazy things. She would spend a quiet day at home surrounded by those that she loved. 052. What is your character’s worst flaw? Ryo appears very standoffish. Because of that some people feel that they have a hard time approaching her. 053. What is your character’s greatest strength? Not to sound cliche, but her greatest strength her friends and family. Is your character an introvert or an extrovert? Introvert.. Ryo tries being more sociable but usually ends up wishing that she were home with a good book. 056. Freelance Friday 039 – January 25 2019
Up in Chilliwack we’re experiencing an odd winter. Way less rain than normal and it’s so much warmer than normal as well. Not quite t-shirt weather, but certainly only a sweater and you’re warm enough.
We recently did an experiment with our kids and cut almost all the screen time for the week. Our youngest two especially (2, 5) had a fairly decent change in behaviour. This is something Cynthia and I will talk about in the coming weeks and share with you.
Progress on The Freelancer’s Guide to Niche Marketing happened so we’re on track for that March release. I need to keep making research and writing progress and in the beginning of February need to finalize the cover so I can throw up a proper landing page. Monday was a long post and video recapping my 2018 and talking about how 2019 will be different. How did 2018 go for you? What changes are you making for 2019?
Wednesday I put together a video on meal planning and talked about how it saved us so much work the following week alone because we got so sick. We even took some of the food to a friend last night because they seem to have the same thing we had and are in need of some support in the form of food being ready for them. Meal prep is a great way to trade just a bit of time today for a month of less work.
On Liquid Web I wrote about Gutenberg and WooCommerce. Just after we published it there was an update to WooCommerce Blocks so I’ll have to revisit this for Liquid Web in the coming weeks.
1. A Good Look at our changing ideas of dad

I know that we have an almost 50/50 split in child rearing with my wife working 3pm and on most days of the week then us both being around all weekend.
I still am annoyed sometimes at how dad is pictured, but overall we’re heading in the right direction.

2. My dream schedule?

Once the writing is done, he spends his afternoons running or swimming, and his evenings, reading or listening to music before a 9 pm bedtime. Yup this is an older one and it was first written about, to my knowledge, by Paul Graham. The first paragraph almost caused my heart to skip a beat because it sounds like the perfect day to me in so many ways. Get up early, be creative for a number of hours, then get outside in the mountains.
Now to keep making my day more like that through 2019.

Yeah, do the damn work. If you want to create great YouTube videos, or podcasts, or write books then start. Do some of the work and try to improve. Pick out the parts that didn’t go well and then try to fix them.
There really isn’t a secret, except for maybe that you’re damn lazy and are looking for excuses to not do work.

I'd eat when I was stressed out, if I had a bad day, or if I was upset. My core meals weren't necessarily unhealthy-but the amount of emotional snacking I did each day really did me in.
I've always been on the heavier side-but it wasn't until college that I realized I was an emotional eater.

Sweets were my weakness: Throughout the day, I'd have cookies, cereal, or chips-as often as I wanted, and as much as I wanted.
During that time, I tried all the diets-Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, various cleanses-but I'd always end up gaining any weight I lost back.
After having surgery in 2013, I knew it was time to make a big change.
I was born with hip dysplasia-a condition that allows the hip joint to become fully or partially dislocated often-so working out has always been painful for me. My hips can only last for about 30 to 40 minutes in the gym or walking before I start to experience severe pain.
I had surgery for my hip dysplasia in December 2013, and while I was recovering, I was able to prepare myself mentally for my weight loss journey-something I had never truly done before in trying other diet plans. Basically, I realized I had to make this change for me, and me alone.
I started with an easy-to-follow program-but it wasn't sustainable.
I saw a commercial for Nutrisystem, a program I hadn't tried yet, so I decided to sign up. It was super expensive, so it wasn't sustainable for me in the long run, but it gave me an easy place to start from because it was real food that was portioned out for me.
 I stuck with it from January of 2014 to August of 2015 and lost 35 pounds through dieting alone (I was still recovering from surgery, so I wasn't able to work out yet).
After I quit Nutrisystem, my cousin started a program called Wellness Warrior, which focuses on eating whole foods, eliminating unprocessed foods, and keeping track of portion control. It also urges you to limit snacking, and to choose healthier snack options.
Here's what I would eat on the diet during a typical day:
Breakfast: Egg whites and a smoothie made with berries, kale, and almond milk.
Lunch: A salad with berries, vegetables, and chickpeas.
Dinner: A veggie burger with a side of vegetables like broccoli or spinach.
Snacks: Various fruits and vegetables, greek yogurt, or almonds.
When I was finally able to start working out, I quickly realized the gym was not my scene.
After I lost the first 35 pounds, I started (lightly) working out by joining a local gym. I would go for about three times a week and use low-impact cardio equipment at a slow pace-but I was so bored, so I quit after a few months.
After that, I started going outside to walk and jog around the neighborhood four or five times each week. But I knew I needed to do more (and find someone to keep me motivated), so I hired a trainer.
 She understood my physical limitations and tailored our workout sessions to help me stay on track without pushing me past my limits. She taught me to pick up my cardio pace by doing shorter (but faster) cardio intervals. I also started strength training, so I could get stronger without overexerting myself.
Now, nearly five years and multiple surgeries later, I'm still going strong.
Though I had another hip surgery in April of 2018, I still meet with my trainer one hour a day, four days a week-focusing more on mobility and recovery for right now. I've also started attending workout classes to add variety to my routine.
But sometimes life gets in the way. If I can't make a full class or meet with my trainer one day, I'll text friends to go for a quick walk or run. Through my limitations and overall experience, I have learned it is super important to just get your body moving in any way you can.
 As for my diet, I've found it's easiest to stay on track when I stay busy. Meal-prepping has been key for me, and I always try to have healthy snacks ready to go in my house so if I'm on the run, I can just grab and go.
There have been so many rewards to losing weight-but the biggest reward has been my newfound sense of self.
Sure, the compliments about my weight loss from family and friends are great, and it has definitely made exercise easier and more enjoyable-but that's not why I started this journey. I just wanted to make a healthy change in my life, for me.
 Over the past few years, I have been proud of myself as well as disappointed in myself. I have tested myself, both mentally and physically, and I am so thankful to have learned so much about myself through the process.
And, to anyone going through their own weight loss journey, remember you will have days where you fall down. But, despite your limitations and struggles, you can accomplish your goal as long as you push through and remember your why.
