Dizi 10’ar dakikalık kısa bölümlerden oluşuyor. 3 farklı hikaye olarak seri yapılmış. Yine bir okul ödevi tadında kısacık eğlencelik minnak diziler. Her birinde tanıdığımız, sevdiğimiz oyuncuları görmemiz mümkün.

The Universe's Star;

Woo-Joo yetenekli bir şarkıcı-söz yazarıdır ve Byul-Yi ise bir ölüm meleğidir. Hayranı olduğu çocuğun hayatını alması için gönderilince aralarındaki romantizm dizinin konusu olur. Benim yorumum üçlemenin en pasif ve silik hikayesi buydu. Hikaye anlatmak istediği duyguları anlatabilecek kadar uzun olmadığı için izleyiciye pek bir şey geçmedi. Ama çok da ciddi bakmamak lazım tabi.

Romance Full of Life;

Çok uzun süredir polis memur sınavlarına hazırlanan So In-Sung  8 kez başarısız olmuştur. Buna rağmen hiç neşesini kaybetmemeye çalışır. Kız arkadaşı Wang So-Ra  ise artık onunda ayaklarının yere bastığını görmek ister. Aynı zamanda o da kendi içinde zor zamanlar geçirirken anlık bir kararla ilişkilerini bitirir. Dünyası yıkılan In-Sung  tesadüfen gördüğü  "Hayat Dolu Deney" isimli bir ilaç deneyine katılarak para kazanacağını düşünür.  

Bu hikayenin konusu ilginçti. Tamamen mükemmel insana dönüştüren bu hap ile yapay bir popülerlik kazanan karakterimizin aslında ne istediğini keşfetmesini anlatıyordu.

Queen of Ring;

Benim seriye başlama nedenim ve en eğlendiğim hikaye ise buydu. Aileden gelen genetik bir çirkinliğe sahip kısa boylu bir kız olan Mo Nan-Hee bir gün annesinin sırrını keşfeder. Ailesinde nesillerdir ailenin kadınlarına miras kalan bir yüzük vardır.  Yüzüğü sevdiğin kişinin sana takmasını sağladığında karşındaki kişi seni görmek istediği ideal güzellikte görmesini sağlıyordur. Babası gündüz işteyken yüzüğü annesinden ödünce alan kızımız okulda sevdiği erkeğe dünyanın en güzel kızı olarak görünür. Ancak yakışıklı çocuğumuz Park Se-Gun yüzüğün büyüsü ile yıllar önce karşılaşıp beğendiği bir kızın yüzünü görmektedir. İşte o kız bizim Nan-Hee’nin arkadaşıdır ve aynı okula kaydını yaptırınca işler karışır.

Hikayeler böyleydi. Üçü de yumuşak, kısa, keyifli zaman geçirten tatlı dizilerdi. Çok uzun konuşmaya gerek olduğunu düşünmüyorum. Sıkıldığınızda açıp 10dk bakıp kapatabileceğiniz, küçük bir kaçamak olarak düşünebilirsiniz.

SBS Hyena, episode 1 rewatch (part 2)

I realise I haven't tagged/warned for spoilers, but this will be full of spoilers. I'm sorry.

So the first we see of her… is Kim Hee-sun. Gorgeous hair, beautiful no makeup-makeup face, and...near-bare feet. (This is entirely from Hee-jae's perspective, so his observation of her feet is probably intentional. It’s also not the last time he’ll do it.)

(I assume Hee-jae's writing paeans to her cute turquoise toenails in his note-book.)

I love Hee-sun's oversized white shirt. It’s  interesting that she should wear that, because in the scene just before this, Yoon Hee-jae sheds his shirt in his office and throws it in a bin. And here she is, in a lovely bit of continuity, looking like she might have just picked it off his floor and worn it, along with that cool preppy sweater. 15/10 for style, infinity/10 because she's Kim Hye-soo, and in this house she's everything.

Moving back to daytime —

This is the first time we've heard any reference to Hee-jae being related to a judge, and it's in this unnaturally coy fashion. 

We’re meant to see Hee-jae as a legal force to be reckoned with. He’d have to be, given what we’ve seen so far. Here, he's assuring a result to a client because of who he'll have on his team. He's coasting on Atty Ma's team's work (whether he admits it or not), his own big guns and lots of unearned confidence like any other corporate blowhard. 

I say his confidence is unearned, but he’s probably never had the reason to believe otherwise. He’s a big boy working for one of the big boys - things have never not fallen the way he’s wanted them to, because that’s the way their world functions. Money talks, and they have so goddamn much of it that there is never a real contest. This is the status quo of Yoon Hee-jae’s life, and it’s about to be undone in the most wildly spectacular way possible. 

Yoon Hee-jae has never had to pay his dues or prove his worth - that’s always been for other people to do. Whether he wants to pay his dues or prove his worth…is a different, and more interesting question. He does prove to be smart, thoughtful and deeply strategic as a lawyer later in the show, but we’re not going to see that side of him for a few episodes. 

And then, we find out his grandfather was the former Chief Justice. 

Yoon Hee-jae doesn’t bring this up until Ha Chan-ho brings it up first. It’s not really mentioned up till now, although it gives important context to his success and confidence. He's very comfortable talking about his pull, but he doesn’t talk about the source of the pull, if that makes any sense. I think there are two reasons for this. 

This speaks to a spectacular kind of privilege - this sort of disclosure usually opens doors, but when you’re in that stratosphere of class and breeding, it’s probably declasse to say it out loud, and more than that, it’s unnecessary. People know it and so the doors are always open, 24/7. It’s like the difference between having to tell the maitre’d at The Fat Duck that oh, by the way, you’re Meryl Streep, and you’d really like a reservation, please, and having the table by the window set aside for you every Friday night. 

I also think he wants to be seen as a good, successful lawyer, and not necessarily just Daddy’s boy. That is vital to Hee-jae in a way that seems, again, almost overtly privileged. In a society that is largely only concerned about Getting It, thinking about How You Got It either comes from having the moral backbone of a Hwang Si-mok or the extreme privilege of a Yoon Hee-jae. Those are the two warring forces in Hee-jae - wanting to be known for being a good lawyer, and yet resting on the laurels earned by those before him.

An all-black suit, for a douchey comment about hooking up with one's client's younger sister. That is cackle-worthy in light of what said younger sister does a few episodes down the road. 0/10 for the sister comment, Hee-jae. 

Next up: the prettiest girl ever. 

BOO HYEON A, BEST GIRL, BEST OF ALL. APART FROM JIEUN. 

@thefeastandthefast once said her hair probably smells of raspberries, and that is entirely correct. She is the loveliest and her belted jacket is so chic. (10/10. I dock no points from Ms Boo.)

She, too, is in all-black, like Hee-jae, which positions them similarly against all the other lawyerbots. This dovetails with things we will learn later about both characters. Both are second kids; both come from incredible privilege, and both are the softest marshmallows who will come to love and adore Jung Geum-ja.

I'm constantly amazed by Yoon Hee-jae's total and utter lack of chemistry with anyone other than Women Who Can Step On His Neck. Park Se-jin and Ju Ji-hoon have such a friendly vibe for two very good-looking people. 

Unlike, say.....

THEM. THEM. 

Yet again, this entire encounter feels surreal, in the way the best romances often do. For starters these two aren’t knocking elbows with five other grumpy people looking to do laundry. Yoon Hee-jae doesn’t dress like this, ordinarily. (As an aside, his soft old man cardigan made me giggle. I had at least two bosses who wore cardigans like this, so at least this is somewhat accidentally accurate to me.) I mean, when Ga Gi-hyeok visits him late in the series, he’s wearing a cool bush shirt (thank you @rain-hat) that looks like something Dries van Noten might have put out. (I think it was Gucci, though, I stand to be corrected). All his soft lil sweaters are reserved for the woman he loves.

(Next up: we're upping the ante, the stakes, and most importantly, the hotness. A violet dress makes its appearance. A man's dignity makes its disappearance. IYKYK)

It's my firm belief that Celebrity (Netflix) would go along so well with Taylor Swift's song "Look what you made me do" like:

"I don't like your little games Don't like your tilted stage The role you made me play of the fool No, I don't like you"

A-ri doesn't like the e-celebs and their petty little games on their stage (online platform). She hates how they made her out the fool (the circumstances leading to her fake-death).

"I don't like your perfect crime How you laugh when you lie You said the gun was mine Isn't cool, no, I don't like you (oh!)"

The drug case in a nutshell. The crime is "perfect" as Jin Tae-jeon is involved in effectively (until the last episode, that is) hiding it. Members of the Gabin Society (with the exception of Yoon Si-hyeon) have two faces: they live in a total lie with their personas well in place before their audience. But A-ri sees their mask and dislikes it. "You said the gun was mine": how Oh Min-hye pinned the whole drug incident onto A-ri, how the suicide of Mr. Park was blamed on A-ri; these lies & slander aren't cool and A-ri doesn't like the liars one bit.

"But I got smarter, I got harder in the nick of time Honey, I rose up from the dead, I do it all the time I got a list of names, and yours is in red, underlined I check it once, then I check it twice, oh!"

A-ri becomes smarter at the race-to-the-top games that the e-celebs play in pursuit of popularity + money. She also gets "harder" or say, a lil ruthless in that game: blackmailing other influencers with dirt on them thanks to _bbbfamous. Oh boy does she have a list of names with her right now to get sweet, sweet revenge. And you can bet that _bbbfamous's name is in red.

"Ooh, look what you made me do ... Look what you just made me do"

Her faking her death, basically.

"I (I) don't (don't) like your kingdom keys (keys) They (they) once belonged to me (me) You (you) asked me for a place to sleep Locked me out and threw a feast (what?)

The world moves on, another day another drama, drama But not for me, not for me, all I think about is karma And then the world moves on, but one thing's for sure Maybe I got mine, but you'll all get yours"

Do I even need to explain this one? It's highly obvious that we get to see what A-ri's motivations in exposing the e-celebs are. One word. Karma. As A-ri's brother says, they should get a taste of what A-ri had to go through. The world is set ablaze for a few days with the newest drama and then moves on quickly; while we have A-ri critiquing the fickle nature of the world and expressing the surety of her karma's success.

"I don't trust nobody and nobody trusts me I'll be the actress starring in your bad dreams"

Obvious meaning is obvious. After experiencing so much of back-stabbing (especially from her best friend), is it any wonder that A-ri doesn't trust anybody? The least of all: other e-celebs? And of course nobody trusts her as accusation after accusation, hate, rumors etc are piled on against her. A-ri is the actress (e-celeb) starring in her haters' (esp _bbbfamous) bad dreams as she uproots their whole reputation.

"I'm sorry But the old Taylor can't come to the phone right now Why? Oh, 'cause she's dead (oh)"

A-ri has definitely changed now, the old A-ri is dead (episode 11 is cleverly titled '#but_she's_dead') literally (her fake death) and metaphorically (her choosing not to become an influencer again despite having a significant number of supporters).

KDrama review #3

I could not put down my phone till I completed the entire season. I am so happy I took this up, it is totally worth the time. I initially started watching this because of Kang Min-hyuk. Doesn't he look just adorable here! I remembered him from 'Heirs'. Even there he was the one I had adored the most. And today I realized, he was also the main lead in the 'Hospital Ship', which again, I had binge-watched. To sum up I ADORE HIM (in this drama even more!)

Coming back to this drama, the plot was well thought out. There were a few instances when I could feel the loose ends here and there. But overall everything made sense. There were two storylines going on simultaneously- the present and the past. This bifurcation is nicely maintained, so as to not confuse the audience. The suspense is maintained till the end and I am sure, it is not something that can be guessed easily.

A brief synopsis: It's about INFLUENCERS, FAME, MONEY and POWER. Seo A-ri enters the world of social media and becomes a star influencer overnight. But this stardom and glamour come with consequences. Being a chaebol, whose family went bankrupt, Seo A-ri is hawking cosmetics to earn her living. She has a fine fashion sense but is unscathed by the world of social media and influencers for the longest time. She then coincidently meets one of her high school classmates, who is now an influencer. Then starts the drama! In the beginning, it is her curiosity about how influencers like her high school classmates, make so much money when she is trying so hard to make ends meet. But then she finds herself caught up in the scandalous world of e-celebrities and the power-hungry influencers of high society.

what do you think? BEWARE! There might be some spoilers ahead!

Overall the drama was very gripping. The acting was on point. The suspense thriller plot with a tint of romance was a perfect recipe. There were parts that were truly expected like the high-class society drama. The ML is also a chaebol, and from the moment he was on the show, I felt he would turn evil at any moment. But to my surprise, he was a really loyal, likable character. The subtle romance between the FL and ML was just too overwhelming for me. (He had one of the best flirtatious dialogues.) Each one of their interactions was swoon-worthy.

And I really did not expect Yoon Si-Hyeon to be a positive character. I was really shocked by this. From the first episode, I had a hunch that she was the main villain. She was just too calm and composed as if she had bottled up too many emotions- this is usually the character description of villains in these high-class dramas.

All in all, I would totally recommend this drama to anyone who is into the genres of suspense, thriller, revenge, (and slight romance).
