Because I’ve been watching so many cdramas lately, to get back to kdrama world and have our heroine kill a bunch of people (and spare some other people only because begged by the man she loves), threaten with murder, conduct industrial espionage and commit a host of other white collar crimes and then:
Keep her vast fortune, beat cancer and and end up blissfully together in mutual love with a tall hot sweet dude who worships the ground she walks on and is most Good Samaritan person imaginable is jaw dropping!
And the best part is she doesn’t even repent, she just stops doing bad stuff - not because she finds it immoral but because she’s not happy and because she wants to be with ML who is not keen on her behavior. So she stops and that’s enough and her man is totally on board basically going “sure you did enough felonies to go for the Guinness record but you decided not to from now on and that’s good enough for me. Now I am going to treat a sick kid for free and after that we can cuddle on the roof.”
Like!!!!
This one drama alone would make the entirety of NRTA explode!

Yong-pal (2015)
Tumblr media
I liked this show, but the premise is legitimately bonkers. It's a modern day take on sleeping beauty—only there's no handsome prince—just an overworked (but obviously handsome) doctor, a bunch of gangsters, and some crazy corporate infighting. Let me explain... no there is too much. Let me sum up...
The first 10 episodes were enthralling. The lead character Kim Tae Hyun (aka Yong-pal and played by Joo Won), was originally framed as a cynical anti-hero who is in way over his head and has to do a ton of unethical stuff. But then he finds himself trapped being an unofficial guard for Han Yeo-jin (aka Sleeping Beauty and played by Kim Tae-hee), and at some point he decides he doesn't want to be one of the baddies and helps her escape.
This takes about 9-10 episodes to work through and has some great action and tense surgery moments... because this is an action / medical drama, and you meet alot of interesting characters.
Then just past the mid-point of the season, Sleeping Beauty is finally free and she starts taking back the Kingdom and taking revenge on everyone who had anything to do with locking her in the castle. This Takes 3-4 episodes and is about where the show starts to drag a bit.
Then we have 2 episodes of board room corporate warfare that doesn't make much sense and the OTP hits a rough patch and it starts to really drag.
Then the ending arc is bonkers (**spoilers** there's poisoning, cancer, miracle surgery, people who disappeared 5 episodes ago returning to Save The Day(TM), lots of pretty people crying, and kids in a clinic). I wanted to see how it ended, so I kept going until the end, but it was slightly disappointing.
Why the Show Worked Anyway
Casting! This cast is so pretty, and so much fun to watch, and the characters are fascinating enough that you just don't care how crazy the plot is.
Kim Mi-kyung is still a standout actor. And she's young enough that she doesn't have to be anyone's mom (all the moms are dead in this show, because of course they are). She's the Head Nurse at the hospital instead!
Joo Won gets to play a doctor who is kind of an action hero at the start but then loses his super powers about the time he (**spoilers** gets shot). I liked him, but the other characters are so colorful that he almost seems tame by comparison. The show needs someone to ground it, and most of the time that's Joo Won.
Kim Tae-hee is very good as well. She spends 10 episodes being sick and crying alot (while managing to look cute instead of terrible). Then she gets an arc where she's basically a corporate mob boss and goes on a murder-for-hire spree, and I think that's probably where she's most interesting. I think she does alot with the part she's written, but her character isn't very nuanced.
Chae Jung-an is another standout. I think the character was written very inconsistently (and not just because she pretended to be a ditz some of the time), but she was so much fun to watch that I kind of just went with it. Could have done without some of the cringy scenes in yoga pants at the hospital, but even that was still funny sometimes.
Stephanie Lee (or Lee Jeong-ah) had maybe the coolest role that wasn't a lead. Morally grey but (due to careful writing) not really evil, she's basically the fixer for the VIP floor of the hospital. And it was nice to see a Korean-American in a role.
Honorable Mention to Jo Hyun-jae as the evil step-brother. His character tended to bad-guy monologue. His schemes pretty much always blew up in his face. However, he somehow made this two-dimensional baddy feel like a real person. Or at least, enough of a real person that you felt sorry for him a few times.
TL; DR:
I got alot of enjoyment out of episodes 1-10 or so. I didn't hate the rest of them, but it felt like the writers didn't know what to do, and so they just started putting stuff out there almost randomly. And even the stuff they setup earlier in the season was so bonkers that it felt random. Still a good show that is fun to watch (most of the time).

Just there to tell you that I read your post about the shizunfucking one time but I was distracted and I wasn't watching loch. Now, watching loch I really don't know why but I thought the shizunfucking happened between mei ChaoFeng and Huang Yaoshi. IDK WHY. I just looked at her and was like "yeah, she is the one". I reared your post for clarification, because I don't trust my memory. And yeah, the delusion. But now I've internalized that mei cheofeng loves Huang Yaoshi lol.
Anyway at Peach Blossom Island are all insane and I enjoy all of them.
Also, the tome of nine darkness is going to cause problems, isn't it?
HAHAHA omg no, the shizunfucker is Yang Kang's son! Yang Guo my darling baby boy who I also put on thin fucking ice so many times...
The relationship between MCF and HYS has gone through many permutations over the years and is increasingly ambiguous throughout the adaptations! Whether or not they were in romantic love has been a subject of great debate in Jin Yong fandom!
Regardless YES the Peach Blossom Island Pals are all SO insane about shifu, and I adore them for it.
:) the 9 Yin Manual... :) I wrote about evil macguffins once or twice I think. :D

I love the way this drama is shot!
Also, it's pretty awesome that this is a drama starring Joo Won and yet it's Kim Tae Hee's character who is the unhinged, vengeful mess.
I can't wait for them to actually interact properly. She's def intrigued.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, this was made in 2015, long before netflix and other western cos got interested in kdramas and it's made with no influence from that source (in terms of either being financed by them or being made with an eye for eg American market) and oh, you can tell the difference and I love it so much that it feels like a proper kdrama, type of kdrama I fell for, not an American show with Korean actors, and not even a hybrid of kdrama with those types of influences. (I have no idea how to put the difference in vibe, story, everything into words, I guess it's like p0rn in the famous words of Justice Potter Stewart: "I know it when I see it.")

HC:
Abby and female grunts will actually call Yong-il “The Fucking Count of Jeong” because of him being the 18th in the Jeong lineage.
This is because his title, the 18th Count of Jeong, the number 18 in Korean, 십팔 (ship-pal) sounds an awful lot like the word for ‘fuck’ in Korean, 씨발 (ssi-bal).

Anschütz German Navigation Equipment Key in Modernizing 41 Indonesian Naval Warships
Defense industries in Indonesia have partnered with the German navigation technology provider, Anschütz, to refurbish and modernize 41 naval warships (KRI), including submarines. In this modernization process, Anschütz emphasizes technology transfer, particularly in maintaining and training ship navigation systems, collaborating with the local company PT Cipta Teknologi Persada. The CEO of PT Cipta Teknologi Persada, Asmui Mansur, confirmed the collaboration between his company and Anschütz, signed on 9 November in Jakarta. The collaboration agreement includes a training program designed by Anschütz for Indonesian technicians. Asmui mentioned that this education and training would involve maintenance aspects and engage the Indonesian Navy personnel. Anschütz technology is widely used in Indonesian warships, recognized for its navigation technology, including gyro inertial systems, warship electronic chart display and information systems (WECDIS), and integrated bridge and navigation systems (IBNS). Ron Lee Chor Yong, Anschütz's CEO for ASEAN and Far East, welcomed the collaboration, emphasizing product availability as a key factor in modernization, especially during transitions from peace to emergency situations. Regarding technology transfer, Ron explained the company's future business direction aimed at involving small-scale Indonesian companies in small-scale assembly. The Indonesian Ministry of Defense has appointed PT PAL Indonesia (Persero) as the lead integrator (main contractor) in the project to revamp the 41 Indonesian Navy naval warships.

Start-up (2020)
Tumblr media
I really enjoyed the first couple arcs in the show, but there was a real drop in interest by the end of it. I'm sure the pandemic was part of the problem, but the biggest problem was the same thing that plagues so many of these workplace rom-coms — The dreaded LOVE TRIANGLE!
The premise actually worked for the most part. The writers kept me guessing enough at the beginning that I couldn't decide what was going to happen with the relationships. I especially liked the underdog story at the beginning. But they kept the resolution to the stupid love triangle going to 6 episodes too long. And I just stopped caring about most of the story. Especially for the last three episodes. The only thing that kept me going really was the performances.
The Performances
Bae Suzy (as Seo Dal-mi) did a pretty good job as the main romantic interest and really the main character. The writing at the end (which may have been a casualty of the pandemic) really let her down in the last 6-8 episodes. What I think the writers were trying for in her arc was having her go from under-confident to over-confident and then finding a balance at the end.
They kind of painted themselves in a corner as they wanted her to do something dumb enough to have consequences, but not so dumb that she washed up and ruined the company. But there aren't very many real life cases of that to choose from so you got something that could have been easily avoided if she had talked to anyone in the industry for 5 minutes. It was dumb and felt contrived, and it took the character to a less interesting place in the last few episodes.
Nam Joo-hyuk (as Nam Do-san), did a good but fairly forgettable job. The writers could have done alot more to make his character interesting, but his real problem was that he was playing opposite Kim Seon-ho—who would go on to play a better version of the same character in Hometown Cha x3—and so he ended up looking like a boring kid until maybe the very end of the show.
Kim Seon-ho (as Kim Sang-ho) was one of the standout players here. He had the most interesting backstory, and the grumpy cynic with a heart of gold character was by far the most interesting of the cast. He also had great banter and chemistry with everyone which was just fun to watch.
Kim Hae-sook (as the grandmother, Choi Won-deok) was also fun to watch. Every scene with her and Kim Seon-ho was pretty good. Even when they were just sitting and talking and eating street food.
Kang Han-na (as Won In-jae / Seo In-jae) was probably the most underused main character. Kang Han-na did a good job with what she was given, but her role was mostly just to provide motivation for the other characters. The writers could have given her story more attention and had a much more interesting show. For various reason, they didn't.
Stephanie Lee (as Jung Sa-ha) did a pretty good job with what she was given. I didn't buy the romance arc the writers did with her character, but it was cute enough that I sort of liked it anyways. Once the writers gave the guy she was dating an actual personality, anyway. Overall, it was a decent role, but much less interesting role than in Yong-pal.
TL; DR:
There's a severe dropoff in quality in the last 8 episodes. This could be due to the pandemic, but in any case there was alot of wheel spinning and I nearly lost interest.
They had a decent love triangle which only worked because the third corner was played by Kim Seon-ho. If you were in the know, you could figure out who the writers were going to end it with (the ages, the marketing posters, etc. made that pretty clear), but Seon-ho did such a good job with a cool character, that you still kind of wanted Sang-ho and Seo Dal-mi to ride off into the sunset. But there's always Hometown Cha x3 instead.

No but this is so true. Like ye don't get me wrong most of my content is Varigo but what alot of people forget is that every one was close with Hugo not just Var.
Nuru had a new friend that she could gossip with drink wine ( you know stuff you do with ur "gal pals" ). Yong had a cool older brother figure (besides from Varian) to teach him new things (mostly abt fireworks and bombs but Hugo definitely taught him a few new.. interesting. Words.). Then this person they finally began to trust wasn't even real (for all they know he never meant any of their bonding moments).
Like I've been in alot of toxic friendships and it absolutely sucks when you find someone you feel safe with but then it was all just some game to them. I can't even describe it properly in words but if it's happened to you you understand the feeling. You're left wondering if anything is real anymore.
Anyways lol that's it :)
I feel like we don't talk about how Hugo would be weirded out by the concept of having friends enough. Like we all pretty much agree that Donella, while maybe not being outright abusive, was at least not an amazing parent figure and made Hugo live a life that wasn't super healthy. But I haven't really seen anyone talk about how he probably has never felt platonic love.
I like the idea that it wasn't Varian that convinced Hugo to leave Donella, it was Nuru and Yong.
Hugo would have at least had a crush before, if not an actual relationship, he's aware that liking someone made you want to do stupid stuff, like quit your job, abandon your mother figure, and live with them for the rest of your life, but wanting to do that sort of stuff for someone you have no attraction to whatsoever? Huh?
I just love the idea that while Varian was a huge part in changing Hugo, it took friendship with no hint of romantic connotations to finally win Hugo over.

Sweatshirt Outfit Ideas For Men And Women On How To Wear Them || OhCanadaShop
Do you remember the cozy, warm sensation you get when you slip on something extremely cozy and comfortable? Do you know what a complete pain it is to have to give it up when you have to get up and go for your morning run or walk into the gym for your next workout? We've all been there, I suppose. We've all hoped at some point that we could keep a blanket wrapped around us instead of wearing actual clothing so we don't have to give up the warmth and comfort of it just yet. What if we told you that sweater makers heard our internal cry and responded?
Tumblr media
A sweatshirt is the answer to sweaty workouts that leave you feeling drenched and damp the entire time, for those of you who are unfamiliar. How many outfits exist that have these precise characteristics of keeping you warm and dry? hardly any. This brings up a frequently questioned question: what exactly is a sweater, and why should you own a few of them? What else? We'll also break down some very cool styling advice for sweatshirts to suit your needs for casual and activewear.
Sweatshirts are no longer simply considered to be the clothing of activewear. They now also fall within the casual wear and streetwear categories. Look no further if you're unsure of how to style sweatshirts for everyday wear. There are several ways to rock the sweatshirt trend. An attractive brunch costume may be created by pairing a small skater skirt with a contrasting hoodie and a pair of ankle boots. If you're heading out with the boys to do whatever it is that guys do, buy some fashionable men's sweaters! Wear it with a pair of your favourite trainers and slim-fit jeans.
Although wearing a sweater and shirt simultaneously may sound like too many layers, it may end up becoming a wintertime staple for guys. The same is true for wearing a T-shirt over a sweatshirt, which may liven up a plain T-shirt. Don't forget to accessorise so that you can get some favour with your pals and receive some compliments!
The process of construction is the key distinction between a jumper and a sweatshirt. Sweatshirts are neither knitted nor crocheted, unlike sweaters. Large cotton is used to create sweatshirts. In the winter, sweaters are designed to keep you warm. A sweater has other purposes outside just keeping you warm as well. As we discussed before in the text, they not only keep one warm but also absorb sweat. As a result, athletes and fitness enthusiasts frequently choose them. Sweaters are constructed of lightweight material, so they only serve to keep you warm rather than absorb sweat.
Speaking of seams, a sweater's seams are finished by weaving them together, while a sweatshirt's seams are serged. This keeps them from coming apart. To make the sweatshirt softer and more comfortable, the back and interior are gently brushed. It is known as fleece. On the other hand, a jumper is already cozy and soft due to the way it was made. The fabric on the inside and outside of the sleeve can typically be pulled apart in high-quality sweatshirts. This implies that there are two layers to it. There is only one layer throughout a jumper. A jumper may or may not have a front opening depending on the design or style, while a sweatshirt does not. Sweatshirts can be styled just as easily as sweaters!
