Happy 18th birthday to the fifth studio album by NIN! Now, this my personal favorite album by NIN for a lot of reasons.

I'm going to be talking about the story behind this concept album in another post soon. But we can all agree that Trent is a genius, but teasing your new album worldwide by putting hard drives into the bathrooms with mp3s of your new songs and static that gave us a phone number and the presence ( the hand on the album cover ) when tagged into wave form is just... beyond genius. And not only that but the hundreds of hidden websites and emails and phone numbers. All to piece together this dystopian, apocalyptic, end of the world story that's just--crazy.

Meet your master, God Given, The Good Soldier, these are all some of the greatest songs ever by NIN and my personal favorites. God Given is such a good song. Such a good song. From the intro to the beat drop when Trent begins singing, I think I actually came a little bit when I first heard it. Literally, my mouth kept dropping the first time I heard it and I legit could not stop screaming. I would like to add, that if you listen to The Greater Good, towards the end you can heard what seems to be a siren of some sort. I just felt like adding that because I thought it was interesting.

Anyways, this is an incredible, amazing album. The best of the best. Please listen to it if you haven't, and maybe check out what it's about because there's so much to cover from it. Happy birthday, Year Zero!!!!

"Pretty Hate Machine this" "The Downward Spiral that" WHAT ABOUT YEAR ZERO??? I truly wish more people would talk about this album, I love it so much. I rarely listen to albums from start to finish but Year Zero I just want to keep relistening to. I'm not even going to talk about the universe and the lore right now, just solely the album itself

My favorite tracks from this album would be Me, I'm Not, The Great Destroyer and In This Twilight. The Great Destroyer was the reason why I listened to the whole album in the first place, it's such a powerful track (also about my favorite Year Zero character). Me, I'm not just sounds amazing, the chorus makes me literally ascend, it's just... I have no words to describe it

And don't get me started on In This Twilight. This song fills me with such a feeling of dread and hopelessness and I think it's beautiful that a song can make me feel this way. It's almost like I myself am in that exact moment in the Year Zero universe, watching the Sun rise one final time, realizing I won't ever feel again, wishing I were a better person, but it's too late, this is the end. I think it's an amazing end track for the album and the overall story. Zero Sum is good, I like it a lot, but to me it feels more like a bonus track rather than the ending of the story because to me In This Twilight is the ending of the story

i don’t know if this is an unpopular opinion (i don’t interact much with the NIN community) but i love year zero. i don’t hear it talked about enough. i know it’s distinctively unique among other NIN albums, and i really like it. it’s not my favorite, but it’s a good fun listen that has a lot of texture.

brief reprieve from my star wars posting to talk abt NIN

sometimes i wonder if the other members of NIN are okay w being like almost never talked about. like its all "Trent Reznor this" and that (which i also do and i am not complaining i do love him) but if i were a member of the band i think i'd be a little upset tbh

also ik a lot of music in general is either obviously or subtley (?) political, but it usually takes me a long time to realize cause im really bad at hearing and understand both lyrics and instruments, but a few NIN songs make me so so happy cause they (to me) feel so so political and amazing (Capital G, Year Zero; Head like a Hole/Terrible Lie, Pretty Hate Machine; The Hand That Feeds, With Teeth; etc). like WOAH

also..........the way Trent Reznor says certain words makes my brain so so happy like when he gets kinda high pitched, and he doesnt do it often enough for it to be annoying imo and its so <33

Also, Sanctified (Pretty Hate Machine) says "I dream of lips I never should have kissed" and i always hear Anakin from AOTC saying it in the sex dungeon scene
