J: Get it right this time, haha.

K: *laughs* Its started to go funny when I say it carelessly.

J: Well, you kinda zone out a bit, don't you, when you're wearing a mask.

T: Yeah.

K: Its slightly difficult to concentrate.

J: It is difficult.

K: ...with your awareness.

J: If we go on like this into the rainy season, it will feel pretty tough to keep wearing a mask.

T: Yeah.

K: Yeah, but there are those things that you can wrap round your face and neck. I've heard those feel a bit cooler.

J: Yeah, I do think wearing a mask in the rainy season will be tough. At the moment, what I am not sure about is whether or not, and to what extent masks are effective. There are different opinions everywhere you look. In the end, you don't know who to believe. Im at the point of thinking I should wear one to avoid any risk just in case, even if its a small risk.

K: Yeah, and what about your eyes?

J: Yeh, your eyes.

K: Like, Trump wasn't wearing a mask, but he was covering his eyes, right?

Kami: Um, as for masks, when they were tested on mice, apparently they were effective. They had one side infected with corona next to one side that wasn't, and when they added a mask barrier inbewteen the cages, the infection rate reduced a lot.

K: It seems like its better to just wear one.

T: Well, this is the news from Tokyo Sports today, but the home appliance company Sharp are making masks, and selling them at 2980yen for 50, with a delivery fee of 660yen. They are limited to one box per person, and you have to register as a member. So with even Sharp making masks, its like..won't Japan end up with a mask surpluss?

K: You see them a lot don't you? Well, you don't know where they come from though.

J: Well, Sharp is a home appliance maker that has been operating for many decades, but this year has apparently been their best year for sales and profits. They've made the leap over to masks as thier big money maker, instead the of home appliances, which they've sold up to now. Thats how much everyone has ???*1

T: Going from making home appliances to making masks is pretty impressive, right?

J: Yeah.Thats the great thing about Japanese technology. I think people are very reassured to see 'Made in Japan', they prefer Japanese made ones over foreign made ones, especially in terms of hygiene. But it must have been tough for them with their web server going down.

T: Yeah

J: I tried to have a look at thier site, but in the end I couldn't connect to it once ...

T: Were you thinking of buying some?

J: Yeh, I was! But while Im doing this, you can still see masks on sale all over town recently.

T: There are real estate agencies selling masks..

J: Yes, thats it! Even a tapioca drink stand was selling masks.

K: Yeah, but a friend of mine has been selling them too ...they come via a route, you can purchase them directly from the factory in China or somewhere, and then disperse them to people here, so you don't really know where they've been.*2

J: Right? They really are being sold by all sorts of people in all sorts of places. Its incredible.

J: Also, a lot of people are wearing hand made masks, or brand name masks...

K: Washable ones?

J: Yeah, washable ones.

T: Masks can be fashionable. Do you remember that chain, Dom Dom Burger?

J, K: Oh, nostalgic!

T: Dom Dom Burger have been selling masks with 'Dom Dom' on the side.

T: So in this way, masks are no longer staying the usually white, but are turning into fashionable items.

K: I think it would be good. There is that monthly magazine 'Mu' isn't there? You see their logo on tshirts a lot. Tokyo Sports could do that type of thing.

T: And a kind of Idol person really wore it to lives and stuff, and it became a desirable item. Everyone was like, 'Eh?! A Tokyo Sports parker?!'

K: Its good, right?

J: It is good. If you wear something with 'Tokyo Sports' on it, it shows a kind of intelligence.

J: It shows you've read around a bit. Its good. Although its a bit strange to say it. Its a bit different from something with an 'Asahi Shimbun' or 'Yomiuri Shinbun' logo. Its 'Tokyo Sports'!

K: It would be recognized, right?

J: Well, it sounds strange, but just like how people send out a message with the print on their tshirt, you could do that with masks. For example, how you are feeling today or something...if you have a picture of beer on your mask, people might think, 'ah, that person wants to drink beer'.

T: Thats a good idea.

J: You could show if you are feeling good or bad, like include a message. You could send a message with your mask, send a message without talking.

T: Well, that type of think is developing, isn't it? That kind of fashion style.

K: Yeah, despite not being disposable, you can change your look everyday. Like, you could wear this one on Monday, or pair one with your glasses, or whatever you have that you want to wear.

J: Match it with your feelings, right?

K: ..with everything. 

J: But up to now you see them in white, black and kind of bluey colours, and maybe pink..with womens' masks. But what about more different..

K: More colourful ones?

J: Yeah, deep purple or such..

T: Deep purple?

J: The colours, or the design, like the shape can be..

J: Yes, like check or patterned...if they come like this, it will be more exciting to wear a mask. Aren't you looking forward to that a bit?

J: It does, yeah. You could also put stickers on your mask. It might be a bit difficult to stick them on if it gets fluffy though

K: You could put studs in it.

K: We made them before, yeh.

So yeah, Im writing this at around 8:30am having gotten three hours of sleep and one hour of laying in bed awake, after I finished volume 30 chapter 165 of the black hutler and Id like to talk about some of my thoughts

I know that the emglish and japanese version are already further along than that (I mean, if my research was correct volume 31 did come out in german already, I just couldnt find a physical copy at either of my local bookstores), so I would appreciate it if you didnt spoil me

So yeah, non-spoilers first I guess:

Honestly, I had kind of mixed feelings about a lot of the... revelations ? is probably the best word? I dont know, like, I was reading this and I just kinda let myself be taken along for this thrilling rollercoaster of emotions but while I was doing that, I couldnt help but notice this nagging feeling of "uohhhh, i dont really like where this going" in the back of my mind, which made for a bit of a 'conflicting' read. Even now that Im fully awake looking back on it, I still dont quite know how to feel. I feel like with these kinds of wild storylines it always more or less depends on the conclusion, so I guess I'll wait for that

Also, as for my theory about the people from the Undertakers medallions being people who entered contracts with demons, Im a little less sure about that now?? Idk why because nothing happened that would contradict this

And thats pretty much it, I'll go into some of the more spoiler-y details now

like, I was kinda spoiled for this because Ive read a few fanfics where this is sort of mentioned, although it qas alqays in a pretty vague way and I was still shocked

like, okay, so in the previous arc Ciel had to be forcefed w/ a funnel so he wouldnt die of mustard gas poisoning and it triggered some traumatic memories from his past and he had an episode where he wouldnt let any adult touch him and during whole ordeal he would, idk dream or hallucinate or something

And he would hallucinate about himself standing on this beg chess board with a pretty outfit and a version of himself without the contract seal

And I was like 'surely this cant be literal, it has to be symbolic" yknow, the version of Ciel without the contract seal is an untainted version, possibly what he vouldve been if it wasnt for that day

so yeah, that was something.

I still dont know how to feel about this, like, it makes sense even though its pretty clear to me that they came up with this twist a bit later on (I believe they had this idea a little before the Campania arc, I remember that scene during the extended flashback where hes standing in front of his parents graves also having a small cut-off panel with a gravestone with Ciels name on it), but ugh. Idk I'll just see how it goes I guess

I am sooooo curious about whats up with the Undertaker and the Phantomhives like ??? Bro, he CRIED looking at a picture of Vincent thats so weird. And obviously he went through all the trouble of reviving Ciel thats wild. So yeah, very excited to see where that goes

Im also very excited to see what theyre gonna do with Soma now. I really liked Agnis death and I while it felt like his change in personality was a bit jarring, I do like him becoming more jaded like Ciel. Theres a vertain irony to it bc he did admire him and sort of wanted to be like him in some way

Ngl I found it so frustrating how Lizzy and the Midfords and Tanaka just fully abandoned (our) Ciel after the other one showed up. Lizzy especially because its like

okay so I'm working the prep side of the kitchen, right? I make the bread rolls, the mashed potatoes, the salad lettuce, the croutons, the sliced meat and tomatoes and the other shit you put on your sandwiches, portion out the ribs and grilled onions and rice and everything, you catch my drift? today I come in at noon and hey the two other guys are half done, all I have to do is the bread and the vegetables. right? lmao nope, do twelve other things all alone and be yelled at constantly. but hey that's fine, I've got my music going and I'm in the back corner all alone. and yeah, you can faintly hear it from just outside of the room but everyone else either has their own earbuds in or their own speakers, and if anyone asks me "hey would you mind turning that down a bit? it's distracting" I'm always "yeah sure sorry" and I do it. not that it's really that loud anyway, considering my auditory processing issues (yaaaay autism). and I do decent work and my coworkers all appreciate that I actually ask them what they need done first and do what they ask me to do so they don't mind when I play stuff they might not like, but nearly half of it is stuff that they do love (80s thrash metal, 90s alternative rock, early 2000s pop, hip hop and gangsta rap, motown, disney soundtracks, occasional melodic metalcore and punk and electronica, stuff that's fairly inoffensive and just background noise [or super offensive to fucktrumpets]) and nobody's expressed dislike and they often sing or dance to it. not to toot my own horn but I'm fairly well liked there.

but today while in the midst of chopping onions and making rolls and cooking mashed potatoes and skewering mushrooms and portioning out fry batter with shrimp all at the same time, the servers come in and take a counter for rolling silverware. knives, forks, spoons, napkins, it's not that much. I don't mind, they need room and I can share, and I like most of them. I move some stuff together so they can do their thing. but what happened today was interesting. so I had my stuff going, right in the middle of the somg dammit by blink 182, when one of the girls sets up another speaker, and starts just straight up fucking blasting drake and cardi b and other trash tier music made by pedophiles and other horrible people. I don't mind nicki or wiz or usher or the genre in general, and I'm actually really starting to get into them. but I fucking hate drake and cardi and other trash at their caliber. I wouldn't mind if I heard it in a mix with, say, tupac and rihanna and the weeknd and jay z and kendrick and kanye and pharrell and other highlights of that field of music, but if it's literally just drake cardi drake cardi I'll just tune it out. but it was incredibly loud. so loud that I couldn't hear my own stuff. which, you know, ordinarily I share a space with a guy who listens to a lot of tech n9ne and eminem and stuff which is okay I guess but not amazing, and his is really loud but we share the airspace and have an unspoken agreement to keep the sound about even. we're friendly coworkers, you know? but this girl, without a word, just fucking plops it down and starts making as if it's a party.

now, I know what you're thinking. I'm playing stuff for eight hours straight, maybe I should let the girls listen to their stuff for the, you know, half hour at max that they're gonna be rolling silverware for. I'm being ridiculous and petty and just the world's biggest crybaby, right?

she fucking immediately leaves the room.

SHE LEAVES THE ROOM.

SHE FUCKS OFF FOR A SOLID HALF HOUR.

SHE DROWNS ME OUT AND WALKS AWAY.

I'm like. if you didn't like what I was playing, which is perfectly understandable because it's peppered with stuff like metal sang in german [yes it's rammstein] spanish [yes it's sepultura] japanese [yes it's babymetal] swedish [yes it's death metal] italian [yes it's prog metal] french [yes it's gojira] and dubstep and gothic punk and piano pieces and some other stuff like that, which I get isn't everybody's cup of tea. but it's my cup of tea, okay? and if you wanna listen to something else, you know, then fucking ask me, ESPECIALLY WHEN IM STAYING AN EXTRA TWO AND HALF HOURS BECAUSE WE RAN OUT OF CORN AND BLACK BEAN SALSA AND MASHED POTATOES AND SALAD AND ONIONS AND SEAFOOD ALL AT THE SAME TIME AND IM THE ONLY FUCKING PREP COOK HERE ANYMORE BECAUSE THE OTHERS PUT IN THEIR SIX HOURS FOR THE DAY AND LEFT BECAUSE I SAID I WAS OKAY DOING VEGETABLE SKEWERS WHILE WAITING FOR THE ROLLS TO PROOF. fucking ask me "hey do you mind if I put on something else?" and I will gladly say "knock yourself out, we've gotta share this space". I ask the others "hey do you want me to turn on something else" and they're all like "no you're fine it's not that bad- oh shit I actually love this song" and I'm like "oh cool well just let me know otherwise". I offer the use of my speakers, I'm not a dick about things, so I deserve at least basic fucking respect, right???
