Work-Related Rant (Because Those Are Always Fun)
Do you ever get sick of more of the same, no matter how much things seemingly "change"?
A coworker and I left out old team for a new one largely because our team lead was an insufferable narcissist who couldn't take constructive criticism and literally had it out for us because we did our jobs right and, weirdly enough, expected others to do the same and called them out if they didn't. Expecting your coworkers to get shit done? What? Blasphemy.
So yeah, new team, same team manager. (The hierarchy is the team manager is over the team lead who's over us lowly workflow coordinators, the ones who do all the hard work lol.)
We got a team lead on the new team after a few months (a new hire off the street instead of an internal hire, so she didn't understand anything we did, but hey, she could sort of supervise the personnel side of things when she felt like it). She left after a year for a "new opportunity," and we were without a team lead.
Weirdly, my old team's lead left around the same time, too. So there were 2 open positions for team leads on teams I'm familiar with.
I've had a lot of issues with internal hiring at the company I work for. I've had HR "forget" to forward applications to hiring managers, I've had hiring managers "forget" about scheduled interviews and then give the position to someone else, lots of shitty stuff like that. So I told myself, “One more time. Apply for both these lead positions; they claim they like hiring internally because then they don't have to train new leads on all the basic stuff the workflows do, and you're familiar with both teams and what they do, so theoretically that should help.”
So I applied. I had an interview with my manager scheduled.
And then the pandemic hit and we all started working from home. HR contacted me to reschedule the interview as an electronic interview. I gave them my availability.
And never heard anything.
I contacted them a week later like, "Hey, what's happening with that interview?"
HR: Let me check into that.
*1 week later*
Me: Hey, I still haven't heard anything from you guys. Can we schedule that interview?
*3 days later*
HR: It has been determined that you lack the necessary experience for the position and will not be interviewed at this time.
Me: 😲🤔😒
So after that bullshit response (because why did I not lack experience the first time you scheduled the interview, dumbasses?), I contacted my manager to ask about what happened. She eventually (after I swear another goddamn week) told me someone with "more experience" or "better experience" or some crap was hired.
Okay, I can acknowledge that I don't know everything and there are definitely people who have been with the company for longer, so I guess that makes sense.
Then I found out they hired someone from outside the company. So maybe more recent supervising experience, but hey, they usually like hiring internally so they don't have to train on the basic workflow stuff, so that doesn't seem right. Then she didn’t start training for, like, weeks after that. And now she’s finally starting to do team lead stuff...
...and she’s driving 90% of the team absolutely crazy.
Most of my team is made up of introverts. We do work stuff, we sometimes chat in a team chat about non-work stuff (I personally hate that, but whatever), and we get stuff done (for the most part; there are a couple of people who don’t pull their weight, but whatever). Our new team lead is super, super extroverted. And she’s been bombarding the team with silly, pointless games and shit because she’s “team building” (a team that already exists, okay, why are you trying to “build” something that’s already there, idiot?) and “everyone needs to get to know each other.” She doesn’t seem to comprehend that most of us know each other, work relatively well together, and, you know, have already existed as a team for over a year.
But, no, we totally need silly email caption contests (how does that help you get to know people?!) and pointless “let’s guess which pet belongs to who!” contests (we pretty much all know each other’s pets, we’ve worked together for a while already, omg) and really stupid “virtual happy hours” outside of work time. That’s totally all necessary. If you can’t hear my sarcasm, I think this is all incredibly stupid and has nothing to do with work and, my effing god, there are only 4 new people on the team including the new team lead, so we don’t all need to “get to know each other” because we already effing know each other (at least as much as necessary to do our jobs).
The coworker who came from my old team and I chat outside of work. We both think all of this is really stupid, and it makes is uncomfortable. Sure, these things are all optional, but how is it not going to create favoritism for the people who participate when our new team lead thinks these are super important “team building” exercises and thinks they’re “fun ways to make people happy”? There are definitely others on other shifts (I work overnights and don’t chat with most people outside of work because, you know, we’re coworkers, not best buddies) who are annoyed by all these silly exercises, too. So the coworker who came from my old team and I have both sent emails to our new team lead indicating that we’re not fans of all these activities, all this “team building”: it’s not helpful; it doesn’t fit the personality of most of our team members; our team already exists and has existed for about two years, so we don’t need “team building”; stuff to that effect. I mentioned in one of my emails that I’m a private person and don’t want all my coworkers knowing everything about me because we’re not friends, we’re coworkers.
So our new team lead isn’t happy about all of this, but she’s taken it out on the coworker from my old team (and not on me, for some reason? It’s really weird and I don’t get it...I think it’s because she’s been working days (as pretty much all leads do) and not overnights so she feels like she doesn’t know me and is giving me more of the benefit of the doubt than my coworker, but that’s shitty favoritism and is really gross and ugh). They had a virtual meeting yesterday (with our manager there too) in which our lead basically said it’s not fair of my coworker to “try to prevent her from doing activities that are fun for everyone” and was super defensive and passive-aggressively said “I’m sorry I’m trying to have fun with the team and put out fun activities” and...wow. I just can’t handle it.
The big problem I’m noticing is that our new team lead is super freaking similar to the lead on our old team that caused us to leave that damn team. I cannot believe our manager hired someone just like her. Did she think that shit through? Because at this point, it’s looking like that same coworker and I might end up leaving this team, too, because of a bad team lead. And yes, I acknowledge it’s personal and I might be biased because I wanted that position and didn’t even get to interview for it, but since other people are noticing the same things, I’m pretty sure it’s not just me. I just find the hiring process so freaking ridiculous, because how can my manager possibly know I wasn’t the right fit for that position if she didn’t even fucking interview me?! I feel like either something got fucked up on HR’s side again and she was covering for them OR that she didn’t want me in that position and won’t be honest with me about it so she came up with some bullshit excuse. Like, just be honest with me if you don’t want me to be a team lead/don’t think I’d be good at it/don’t want to work with me as a member of your management team. Don’t give me a bullshit excuse that’s obviously not true.
As a note, for the position on my old team, she promoted two people internally on that team to the team lead position, so it’s not like people can’t get promoted internally...they just have to kiss ass a hell of a lot more than I do, I guess. I can’t trust her now, so whatever, that’s a thing.
Anyway. Things keep changing, but saying exactly the same. What I’ve learned from this whole experience is that (a) it’s not worth applying for promotions at this point because I’m never going to get one (despite the fact that my manager and HR keep telling me “No, it’s not that we don’t like you; you have the possibility for upward mobility; you should totally keep applying for promotions”); (b) the company I work for looks for team leads who have recent leadership experience, regardless of how poor of a fit they’ll be on the team they’re joining; and (c) managers at the company I work for are super dishonest, incapable of handling constructive criticism, and are going to do whatever they want to do even if it doesn’t really fit the team they’re leading.
Cool. Great.
Work sucks.
Capitalism sucks.
Adulting sucks.
I want off this ride.

Make it up to You
Special Agent Benjamin Poindexter/Bullseye (Daredevil) One-Shot
A/N: I got an anon request for a scenario where Dex and reader are secretly dating and Ray ends up walking in on them making out.
To my great fortune, seeing this prompt inspired the talented @suitsofwo3 who graciously provided me with some of the steamy bits to work into the story. I LOVE it when she gets inspired like that because saucy bits are a bit of a challenge for me so her help guides me greatly!
Warnings: PG13 bits...well maybe PG14? Well, it’s all over the clothes but still pretty fun haha. No bad language and it’s spoiler-free.
Sitting back from your screen, you rubbed your fingers over your eyes, trying to give them a break. They were so dry and everything was getting blurry. Sighing, you looked at the clock on your phone and realized how late in the day it was.
That explained it.
Grabbing some change out of your purse, you decided to head over to the vending machine and take a small break. But, as though you were being watched, the phone rang before you got away. Conference Room 12 blinked on the display. “Yeah?”
“Isn’t that the most pleasant way to answer a phone?” It was Dex.
Your heart fluttered at his voice, but you caught your breath before you gasped as you glanced around. No one seemed to take notice. Clearing your throat, you forced yourself to continue sounding unimpressed. “Always. What’s up?”
“I need your help. Can you bring your laptop and meet me down here?” There was an air of authority in his tone – he wasn’t really asking.
“I was just about to take a break, I’m starving.” You sighed as you sat back down and started gathering your laptop from the drawer. You were trying to act natural, but you had no idea he was in the building and were totally caught off guard.
“Sure. I’ll just tell the criminals to press pause on their activities then. No problem.”
Rolling your eyes you glanced over and saw one of the other admins chuckling and shaking her head at you. You smiled back. “Yeah, the thing is, I’m not your secretary.”
“No, but you’re admin and this will go a lot faster for us with your help. Do I really have to pull rank?”
His voice carried over the phone as did his harsh tone. The fellow admin dropped her gaze. Although everyone understood they were all on the same team, the whole them vs us dynamic was hard to defeat in any workplace. "Fine. I'll be right there."
As you hurried down the hall, you wondered if he really was upset. When you realized it was him, you assumed it was a rouse just to get in the same room together, but his tone made you doubt.
The worries vanished when you entered the conference room and found Dex leaning against the long table, a small smile just reaching the corner of his lips. He was still in his bulletproof FBI vest, but you were so distracted by his expression that you missed the tiny specks of blood smattering the white FBI letters.
Arching his eyebrow, he tilted his head, “Not my secretary, huh?”
Closing the door, you stepped over to the table to set down your laptop. "Well…I'm not. Did you actually need something?”
Silently, he shook his head and stood up. Leaning over you, he put one hand on your arm as he placed a gentle kiss on your forehead.
That was new, Dex wasn’t usually so…soft. It made you nervous.
“What’s wrong?”
Smirking, he narrowed his eyes. “I just wanted to see you, why does there have to be something wrong?”
Crossing your arms, you mimic his narrowed eyes and quietly watched him.
Glancing away, he finally nodded. “Alright, I get it. Nothing’s wrong, but I won’t be home until late tonight. Our new case…things went sideways and I don’t know when I’m going to get out of here today.”
His eyes kept flickering between you and the door.
Dropping your arms, you tried to hold back your sigh. “Ah. That's no problem, I understand.”
In truth, it stung. You understood how important his work was and it was bound to pull him away. But things had been so hectic, and all you wanted was the quiet night in that was repeatedly rescheduled.
The disappointment must have been clear on your face as Dex's eyebrows quickly flicked upward while he took a step closer. “Our plans have been interrupted a lot lately and I know it's hard. Really hard. But I'll make it up to you, I promise.”
“You're not doing it on purpose, Dex. You don't have to...”
Your words died away as Dex's hands moved to your hips in his bid to comfort you. Although you tried to finish talking, your heart started to race from the way he looked at you. His eyes trailed from yours, down to your lips and slowly back up again. Gently he pushed you back against the table.
He was so close you could feel his breath lightly brushing over your skin. He was standing too close for work, but you didn't want him to move. Looking up into his hazel eyes, they seemed to grow darker as he intently stared down at you.
Resting a hand on either arm, you gently squeezed his biceps trying to...reassure him? Brace yourself? “Really, Dex, it's ok-”
Cutting you off, his lips came crashing down on yours, catching your unfinished sentence in his mouth. Surprised, your hands clenched, and you grabbed handfuls of his shirtsleeves as he stepped closer and pressed himself against you.
At first, he was gentle, his lips softly moving against your own, urging you to give in. As he pulled you flush against his body, the bulletproof vest dug into you ever so slightly. You knew you should stop; it was the wrong place to do this, but you stayed rigid, kissing him deeper.
As his grip on your hips intensified, his fingers dug into your skin while his tongue slid into your mouth, demanding more. You were torn between pleasure and pain, something that only seemed to happen with Dex. Soon, you found your hand snaking up the back of his neck to tug on his hair as you used your other to steady yourself on his chest.
A small moan escaped your mouth and Dex firmly pressed his fingers into your hips - silent command for you to stay quiet.
Pulling away, you let out a shaky breath before he brought his hand up to the side of your face, tilting your head back to continue the kiss. He wasn't giving you a break.
Clutching the edge of his vest, you held tight as you started wrapping your leg around his, raising it higher. Taking the hint, Dex reached down and smoothly lifted both legs to settle around his hips as he set you on the table. The shift pushed your skirt high on your thighs, leaving you incredibly close to exposing yourself right there in the conference room.
His hand roamed up your legs, settling against your lower back and dragging you to the edge of the table as he leaned into you. Tugging his hair harder, you rolled your hips and started grinding yourself against him. Matching your movements, he pressed into you, growing hard against his confining clothes. Pausing, he was the one taking an unsteady breath.
And then the door flew open.
Gasping, you pulled away, trying to scoot back on the table and extract yourself from his grip. But Dex firmly held you still, which was the only thing that stopped you from flashing whoever was in the doorway.
“Uh...oh...I didn't realize anyone was in here.” Ray's shocked voice permeated the room.
Heat crept up your neck, setting your cheeks on fire as you buried your face in Dex's shoulder. When he spoke, you felt the rumble in his chest. “Congratulations. Get out.”
Cracking your eyes open, you glanced past Dex to see Ray fumbling with the door handle as he tried to both avert his stare and keep the door from opening too wide. “D-does HR know?”
“Get. Out.” Dex's voice was dangerously low as he refused to look back at the door.
Nodding, Ray's gaze dropped to the floor after he made brief eye contact with you. “Yeah..sure. But there's a meeting here in ten minutes so...”
Ray didn't finish his sentence before he firmly closed the door.
Dex's jaw flexed as he stepped back and helped you off the table. After you straightened your clothes, you looked back up at him. "I guess I'll go get my snack now?"
As he glanced down, he suddenly laughed, rubbing his hands over his face. You couldn't help but let out a soft chuckle as he draped an arm around your shoulders and lightly kissed the top of your head. “I'll make this up to you too, I promise.”

PA-C: the phone interview
You’ve written a rocking resume, And HR emails you to say, “Hey! We saw your application and would be interested in speaking with you. Are you available on 3/31 at 10am?”
Yes, yes, you are. And if not, try to reschedule for mid-morning on Tuesday or Wednesday.
I’ve never worked in HR, but I’ve been told that those are the best times/days to ask for a promotion or, in this case, convince HR to let you have a chance at a face-to-face interview.
The phone interview is essentially a preliminary interview. Usually they take no more than 15 minutes (my longest interview phone interview was 30 minutes). Sometimes the recruiter will give you an introduction to the position and hospital system, other times they’ll launch right into the questions. The questions are standard, however, the way you answer can make all the difference.
I applied for a position that, honestly, I wasn’t sure that I was qualified, but it sounded interesting. The questions were pretty general, and upon completing the phone interview, I thought to myself, “Yeah, I’m not getting a face-to-face.” But I did. When I met the department head, he told me that the recruiter highly recommended me for interview due to my “professional and positive tone.”
If only they knew...mwahahaha
But, anyhow...
How does one prepare for the phone interview?
Have your laptop/tablet open, Resume on one side of the screen, And job posting on the other side of the screen. Review, review, review.
Know your skill set, and sell it. Highlight your experience that is relevant to the position. Smile while you’re talking. Yeah, it’s weird, but it works!
Also, have pen and paper nearby. Jot down your greatest strengths. And your biggest weaknesses. (And what you’ve done to improve upon those weaknesses) What makes you a team player. A situation in which you’ve thrived despite obstacles. (Preferably a clinical setting situation)
And review the STAR interview format.
Frequently asked questions I received during phone interviews: How did you find out about this position? Why are you interested in [blank] specialty? Why are you interested in this particular hospital/clinic? What experiences have you had in [blank specialty]? Are you local or relocating?
Questions I’ve also been asked during phone interviews: What do you do when a patient is angry? What kind of feedback have you received from staff and patients? Do you prefer working independently or in a team? Where do you see yourself in 3/5/10 years?
Once the recruiter was out of questions, he/she usually proceeded to tell me the benefits that the hospital/clinic had to offer, etc. Then it was time for me to ask questions.
Questions I asked the recruiter: How many APPs total for this department? How long is the credentialing period? What is the onboarding process? How soon are you looking to fill the position? When would a candidate start if hired?
All of the recruiters I’ve met have been nonclinical, so I saved the clinical questions for the face-to-face interviews with the clinical team members.
The interview usually concluded with, “Thank you for your time. I will pass your responses to the clinical team, and you’ll be hearing from me in a week.”
I always followed up the phone interview with an email to the recruiter. I’d thank them for their time and write that I looked forward to hearing from them.
Yes, the phone interview is fairly straightforward. And rocking it will get you to the face-to-face (which I will be writing about soon).
Best of luck, you got this!

NO REGRETS JUST THANKFUL
Excitement is what I felt when a company had texted me last Friday that I have an upcoming interview with them on Monday April 24, 2017. However, I have to attend to an activity so I asked for a rescheduled interview which is the next day April 25, 2017. I was really excited and privilege for this prestige company had considered me to be a part of them. So, I got up early the next day and prepared myself for the interview. For me not to get lost in the area and for the reason that I don’t want to be late, I took a grab. And I made it in the office at 8:10 am, not knowing that I was in a wrong place for the Marketing office is at the other building. It hard to get lost in Makati, since its a huge area. I ask people for directions if I don’t know which way to go or to clarify if I’m heading on the right direction. IT PAYS TO ASK QUESTIONS! HAHAHAHA I met a new friend from BPI who helped me find my way to PASEO CENTER. Thank you to her :D MAKATI JUST ATE ME ALIVE!! So, I reached the place and went up to the marketing office of the company. I was given an applciation form and an essay questionnaire. OKAY NOW I’M NOT PREPARED FOR IT! HAHAHAHA While I was done I submitted my application form together with my resume. After around 30 mins, I was called in the room for the interview.
Judgement day has come. I was so nervous, sitting infront of the interviewer but I have to shake it off and be confident. While she was interviewing me, my bubbly personality just went out and I felt comfortable answering her questions. I was proud of myself that time. It never crossed my mind that I would be able to answer those questions lightly. then after around 20 mins she told me to wait outside for another interview. YES, I HAD 2 interview in the same location. I was interviewed for 2 positions that I never though would be coming, both position is overwhelming. However, I’ve chosen the second position not knowing what other terms will be applied for I was so overwhelmed to ask questions. Then I was again asked to go the corporation’s admin office for another interview and I was given a map for me to find my way to the office.
2 interviews in the morning and another in the after. I’m brain drained but I’m thankful, I waas being endorsed by the company. So before heading to the next building which is 10mins away from the place, I ate my lunch at mcdo , budget meal only please. After eating I looked into the map and asked the guard where the landmark MAPUA is and he gave me directions then I followed the map I have, I really felt like I was Dora with that map looking for landmarks to find my way. It was tiring yet fun and exciting. Then, when I saw the landmark Mapua I was once lost again I asked the people on break where the building number is then they pointed to the next building, not knowing its a different building the guard told me its the building across the street beside East West Bank.
After several minutes, I reached the place. HOOORAY! I know its hot but who cares, experiencing to look for a job is really hard. I arrived 12:25 at the building but I was asked to wait until lunch break is over, so I was there sitting looking outside the window to see the streets of Buendia. From Paseo to Buendia real quick. After several minutes, another applicant arrive of course at first she ignored me, but since I overheard that we are looking for the same person I started to talk to her. And for that moment I again just found a new friend Colleen. She is an applicant for a different department, we exchange our adventures in Makati and it was fun to have someone to talk too while waiting. After an hour, I was called in the room for another interview, so yeah a total of 3 interviews in one day. One question that I will never forget, is “ Do you need the company or the company needs you and why? ” HAHAHAHA I never thought I would be able to answer that. Its up to you to think what answer I chose and how I supported it. After a few minutes, I was called back in and I was hired. However, I was transferred to an agency.
I was so happy that I was hired by the company and so I went to the agency. Before, I reached the agency I again held a map in my hands and YES I got lost when I was almost near again to the place. Who gets lost with a map in his hands? I do! HAHAHA. So, when I reached the place and answering the forms without a contract (don’t worry) I went straight home, I was so tired. Thanks to kuya taxi I was able to reduce my time travel of 3 hours along EDSA to 1 hour only. SHORTCUT IS THE BEST WAY TO GO HOME EARLY! I told my family about it they we’re happy I was hired, However the fact that it is under an agency made them say NO. So, I immediately texted the hr of the company that I have a concern for my parents doesn’t want me to be handled by an agency. The hr called me and told me that I said yes to it while int he interview and I know she can see how excited I was during the Interview.
I’m not being choosy of what position or how much salary I would earn, but the cons of being held under a different company is a different thing to deal with. Maybe, some will think I made a wrong decision for going to that interview and blew the chances away from me. But, to tell you honestly I didn’t regret having the opportunity to be interviewed and hired by one of the most prestige company in town. I really was looking forward to work and be part of their family. I learned a lot during my interviewed, I answered questions I didn’t know I can answer on the spot. And I had just proven to myself that I can make it in the corporate world, just believe in yourself and have FAITH. I believe that if that company is really for you, they’ll come to you maybe not now but maybe someday. Being hired by your company is a privilege. Thank you for trusting me. I’ll never forget the day you gave me a chance and I hope when I return having more skills and knowledge that could contribute to your company, you’ll still accept me with open arms. Thank you!
Sincerely, Tintin
