a gentle touch (beauyasha week day 3)
Prompt: Pride @beauyasha-week read on ao3
The rain falls softly down on the roof and against the windows. Various buckets are scattered among the rooms, revealing holes that have yet to be patched up. Rain water cascades down the windows like tears, if Yasha looks hard enough she thinks she can see a woman’s face in the rain. Though it might just be her own.
She sits on the end of the bed, her hair damp at the roots where the rain hit her before getting inside. Her eyes are locked on the window as she slowly uses a damp rag to wipe the dirt from the garden off her hands. Her hair falls loose around her shoulders, long and white now. She’s wearing a pair of soft sweatpants and an even softer t-shirt.
She should be nothing but comfortable and happy and warm, and yet this melancholy feeling finds it’s way under her nails and in her ears and digging under her skin.
Both of the kids are spending the night with their Aunt Jester and Uncle Fjord, leaving Beau and Yasha home alone. Normally that would mean a date night but when Beau came home, Yasha hadn’t realized how late in the day it had gotten. She had been gardening until it started raining. Then she went inside and sat at the kitchen table until she heard the door open as Beau came home.
Rain clouds circle her head, she can almost hear the thunder rumbling. But the rumbling ceases at the same time the shower turns off in the adjoining bathroom.
A few moments later, Beau walks back into the room. She wears nothing but a towel around her shoulders to catch the water still dripping from her hair. Yasha finally tears her eyes away from the window to look at her partner, vulnerability written in the heaviness in her eyes and the slight furrow in her brow.
Beau smiles softly and steps towards Yasha, standing between her legs and putting a hand softly on her cheek.
“My hands are dirty,” Yasha tells her softly.
“That’s okay.” Beau leans down and kisses her slowly, running her hands against Yasha’s neck and shoulders tenderly. Yasha sighs softly against her lips, lifting her still dirty hands to Beau’s waist with that permission given. When they pull apart, Yasha leans her head against Beau’s sternum. “You okay, babe?”
Yasha nods, pressing a kiss to Beau’s chest as Beau lifts her hands up to Yasha’s hair. “I love Cricket and Imdrin so much, but sometimes I just need a break. Does that make me an awful mother?”
Beau shakes her head, “You’re a wonderful mother, Yash. Those kids love you more than anything, but this is still new to both of us. You’re allowed to be exhausted and to need a break. That's exactly why they have so many aunts and uncles.”
Yasha laughs and looks up at her partner with exhaustion in her eyes, “I love you.”
“I know,” Beau smiles and kisses her again. “Do you want to take a bath?”
She hums, “Will you sit with me?” No part of her wants to be alone right now and besides, she can probably convince Beau to braid her hair for her.
“Always. I love any opportunity to see you naked, you know that.” Yasha rolls her eyes at Beau and pinches her side with a laugh. As their laughter dies down, Beau takes Yasha’s cheeks in her hands and kisses her again. “I’m so proud of you.”
Yasha frowns up at her, almost whispering as she asks, “Why?”
Beau shrugs, “How far you’ve come. Not punishing yourself for how you feel, not burying it. I’m proud of you every single day, Yash. When I see you gardening and with the kids and teaching Cricket how to read and Imdrin how to tie his shoes. There’s still so much fight in you, Yasha, but you’re using it to help our family and I couldn’t love you more for that.”
Yasha pulls Beau closer, once against closing her eyes as she leans into Beau’s chest. Yasha isn’t good with words sometimes, she can be awkward and tentative and can stumble over her thoughts. But by now, Beau knows how to read what Yasha doesn’t say just as well as what she does.
So the two of them just stay there for a long moment, Yasha’s eyelashes ticking Beau’s bare skin and beau gently massaging Yasha’s scalp through her thick hair.
“Come on,” Beau tugs the roots of Yasha’s hair gently. “Time for a bath. And then,” she lowers her voice a bit, “figure out how exactly to spend a night without the kids.”
Yasha chuckles, “Knowing you, you already have plenty of ideas.”
“Maybe, you’ll just have to wait to find out,” Beau teases as she pulls Yasha to her feet. Yasha keeps her hand in Beau’s as she allows herself to be pulled into the still humid bathroom, the sounds of thunder growing quieter and the heavy clouds around her starting to dissipate.

How about 8, 12, 25? 👀
(i hope more than one is okay, feel free to choose just one though)
8. Game of the year?
Ahah, well, during the game awards I voted for Baldur's gate 3, because THE HELL IT WAS SO GOOD. That should be a standard for AAA games honestly. But! For myself personally I want to say that it was Rain World. It was for the first time I got to play it in coop, and first time I got to play it after years of me being literally too scared to play XD
12. Talk about a new friend you made this year
AAAAAA @amenalyme COME HERE BUDDY. So I know we started talking one whole year ago and one day ago, so it does makes us friends from last year, but I personally think that we became real close friends only during this year. YOU ARE AWESOME KIND AND SO UNDERSTANDING AND SO COOL how dare you honestly. To the people who don't know, this awesome person dragged me into rain world fandom, inspired me, and now we are making a cosplay of Pebbles and Moon because we are insane!! And I also visited her many times, and every time it was a blast uωu
25. Did you create any characters (in games, art, or writing) this year? Describe one
Meet Yash!! Electro sword that looks a lot like dendro user XD.
I dropped a few sketches there and there, but I haven't done a lot about him, mostly because at the begging, because we agreed with one artist to create a couple but they never did, and I felt bad about this character after.
But slowly my other artist friends (awesome btw) gave him more meaningful connections and relationships uwu
Faban here by @lastseekersrefuge she made even more sketches with them
And Oilspil by @amenalyme
Yash is such a good friend, he would never pick up on his friend (lies). He also can and will kick people in the face.
The game

Best time to visit in Jammu and Kashmir
While planning to travel to Kashmir, the primary question on one’s mind is when the best is time to visit Kashmir, which is the best season to go, what would be the weather in Kashmir? These points are quite crucial to know before planning your trip, our Kashmir tour packages take into account all these details to give the best experience during your trip.
Generally, to have the best experience of Kashmir, one should visit during the months of March to August. March to May is the spring season and May to August is the summer season, so overall the months of March to August enable one to experience the blossoms of the spring season and also enjoy the cool and awesome weather of the summer season.
Summer in Kashmir (March to May)
Summer is the best time to visit Kashmir as it is neither too cold nor too hot and the climate is quite suitable for sightseeing. The daytime temperature ranges from around 15 °C to 30 °C. Early morning hours are usually the best time to explore this place. Explore and see the melting snow over the valley, a sight to behold. Do not miss visiting Pahalgam, Srinagar, and Gulmarg in the summer. Stroll through the beautiful flower rows in the Mughal Gardens. Another prominent activity during summer is the Amarnath Yatra. Our Kashmir tour packages provide numerous options to enjoy summer in Kashmir.
Monsoon in Kashmir (June to September)
Monsoon in Kashmir begins from June to September. Though monsoon season is generally considered as a shoulder season or off-season, to visit Kashmir during monsoon, is an experience in itself. Also, during this off-season, you will find a good amount of discounts on flights and hotels. The temperatures during these months range from 15°C to 30°C. Another added advantage is to go for the apple-picking activity. There are many visiting places in Kashmir to explore. Do remember to carry your jackets, sturdy boots, rain gear, and raincoats while traveling to Kashmir.
Winter in Kashmir (October to February)
Winter in Kashmir is another peak season. The temperatures range from 0 °C to 10 °C. Most of the activities that you can enjoy during other months such as visiting Mughal gardens and shikhara rides on Dal Lake may not be feasible during winters. The best time to visit Kashmir for snowfall is during this season. There is snowfall from December to March, wherein the whole valley gets covered in a blanket of snow, and the view is similar to that of Yash Chopra films. Thus Kashmir honeymoon packages are quite popular during the winter months. Apart from honeymooners, adventure activists too would love to enjoy skiing, snowboarding, and skating.

Here's Amyah daydreaming about the Rain Brothers (From Top to Bottom):
She feels embarrassed for finding Roscoe handsome, even though he already has a girlfriend, as well as finding Oliver cute and very caring, even if he's attracted to guys. So she tries her best not to blush so much around them often-
She likes Yash's fun and joyous personality, as well as Pacen's smart personality. And so she enjoys being around them with a cheerful smile on her face whenever they want to spend time together or need anything from her.
She thinks that Galahad is a brilliant engineer, and Brandon a quiet, yet a calm man to be around. But she finds herself more attracted them, mostly due to them both kissing her on the cheeks one time for being there and taking care of their little sister Moon.
This is something I wanted to draw for Amyah's Sexual Orientation last month but never got around to get done on time, but here it is now and I hope you like it! ^^"

First meeting
For @beauyasha-week day 1: champion
read on ao3
Yasha hasn’t dreamt of the Stormlord since saying goodbye to Zuala. But tonight, she does. She falls asleep, Beau curled in her arms, warm and familiar. The windows of their house are open just the slightest, allowing the sound of the spring rain to fill the room alongside Beau’s steady breathing. As Beau nestles closer, Yasha kisses her head and closes her eyes.
She falls asleep to the roll of thunder.
Yasha dreams that she’s standing in a field of wildflowers, mountains in the distance. Above her, storm clouds roil. A quick flash of lightning illuminates the shape of a man in the clouds as rain begins to shower down.
She tips her face up to the sky, taking a long breath of the humid air. “What do you ask of me?” She asks the sky.
The Stormlord’s voice echoes around her, laced with thunder and crackling lighting. “You have done well. I come to you now as I have many times before. My champion, there is someone in need of your aid.”
Yasha bows her head in reverence, this is familiar. So she knows what question to ask, the only question he will answer for her. “Where can I find them?”
“Rexxentrum,” his voice booms. “Mudtop Ward. You will feel my guidance.”
Yasha nods, “I’ll find them.”
Yasha wakes up with a flash of lightning. She gasps softly and sits up, looking towards the window to see heavy rain falling outside, spraying in through the open window. With a quiet curse, she quickly walks over, shutting the window with a loud thud.
“Yash?” A sleepy voice asks. Yasha turns to see Beau, who she had disturbed when she rose, sitting up and squinting in the darkness, looking adorable as she’s still half asleep. “What’s goin’ on?”
Yasha climbs back into bed, cuddling Beau back into her arms. “Sorry.” Beau presses a kiss to her skin and snuggles deeper into her arms, resting her head on Yasha’s chest. Yasha rubs her back, but she knows Beau isn’t asleep yet. “I need to go to Rexxentrum tomorrow,” she tells Beau in the darkness. “I don’t know how long I’ll be gone.”
Beau lifts her head, “Stormlord?” She nods, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. “Can I come with? I want to take time off from the Soul anyway.”
“I’d like that,” Yasha tells her. She thinks of the months she spent alone in the wilderness, helping people for the Stormlord. What wouldn’t she give for Beau to have been with her those times? How many times had she lied awake at night and wished for Beau to be beside her.
Beau kisses her chest again and settles down again, “Now go to sleep, we have shit to do tomorrow.”
Yasha laughs a little and kisses the top of her head.
By ten the next morning, Beau and Yasha are on the road, packs slung over their shoulders. The walk from their house to Rexxentrum isn’t long, no more than an hour, but these expeditions from the Stormlord can take a long time.
Beside her, Beau is talking amicably about one of the new archivists at the Soul and how much he’s pissing her off. “Yasha, this motherfucker would not leave me alone. I know I’m super fucking cool, but I don’t need some teenager hanging off my arm everywhere I go.”
Yasha chuckles, “You could tell him to back off?”
“You don’t think I tried that? But for some reason he thought I was joking and just laughed at me.” Beau groans in frustration. “Maybe I’ll sick Dairon on him.”
“Good plan,” Yasha tells her with a smirk.
They keep walking and Yasha can’t help her incredible mood. She was so alone for so long and now she’s here with her badass girlfriend by her side, who dropped everything to go on a vision journey with her. It’s sunny and warm and for a while, Yasha lets her worries wash away.
“Maybe we should stop to see Caleb and Essek while we’re in town. We never go to their apartment,” Beau says. Normally, Caleb pops into their house every morning to take Beau to the Soul before he heads to the Academy. As such, they never make the trek to their apartment.
Yasha nods, “That would be nice.” Beau smiles at her, tangling their hands together and bumping into her shoulder. “You excited for your first vision quest?”
“Fuck yeah,” Beau tells her. “Plus I’m excited to spend more time with you. I feel like I’ve been working so much.”
“Your work is important,” Yasha assures her. “But I will admit, it’s nice to not be alone on one of these.” Beau squeezes her hand as they continue walking.
After another half hour, when they make their way into the Mudtop Ward, Yasha feels a familiar rumble in her chest. Taking a deep breath, she squeezes Beau’s hand, “Follow me.”
Yasha hates the Mudtop Ward. There’s so much poverty and people she can’t help as much as she wants to. She does what she can, bringing food and clothes and blankets to shelters. But she rarely ventures deep into this Ward. Thick mud covered the streets, hence the name. On the edges it’s not too bad, not even reaching the top of her shoe, but the deeper into the ward they get, the deeper the mud becomes.
The Stormlord takes them down twisting streets where the mud gets thicker and deeper until it’s past their ankles and they fight to keep their shoes on. There’s a couple of instances where Yasha has to pull Beau out of the mud lest she get stuck. The rumbling feeling takes them where the streets grow narrower and narrower until it stops just as Yasha passes by an alleyway.
Yasha stops, glancing back at Beau, “They’re here.” She gestures for Beau to stay close as she doubles back to the alley.
It’s empty except for a shivering figure hunched in the mud, hidden by a threadbare blanket. Beau gasps softly, the figure is so small, a child. Yasha separates herself from Beau and approaches the figure, but staying a few feet away. She crouches down to their height and smiles comfortingly, “Hi, my name is Yasha. I’m here to help you.”
The figure makes a startled noise and looks up. Yasha’s heart breaks. She was right, it’s a child, a little half-orc girl with matted brown hair and big forest green eyes. There’s bruises on her face and arms and she is far too thin and shivering despite the heat of the summer. She’s covered in mud, dried in her hair and on her face and completely covering her clothes.
“Hi, little one,” Yasha greets gently. “Can you tell me your name?”
The little girl looks at Yasha warily, clutching her blanket closer to her. “Are you going to hurt me?” She asks in a tiny voice.
“Of course not,” Yasha tells her softly. “I’m here to help you. My name is Yasha and my girlfriend, Beau, is just over there.” The little girl looks over at where Beau is watching the two of them with an unreadable and complicated expression.
The girl looks at Yasha for a long moment and then softly says, “I don’t know my name.”
Yasha’s heart breaks, “Alright, sweetheart. Do you have anyone that is looking for you? Someone that we can bring you to?” The girl shakes her head with a frown. “Would you like to come with us? A friend of ours lives nearby and we can get you clean and warm.”
The child looks hesitant, “It’s warm?” Yasha nods and the half-orc smiles a little and pulls herself out of the mud walking over towards Yasha. To her surprise, the child clings to her easily, cuddling into her chest.
Yasha takes a calming breath and stands, looking over to Beau who has tears in her eyes, “Hi, kiddo,” Beau says softly. “I’m Beau.” The girl gives Beau a little wave before clinging right back to Yasha’s neck. “Come on,” Beau says looking up at Yasha. “Let’s go crash Essek and Caleb’s apartment.”

whatever shattered pieces of me were left
AO3 Link
A/N: big trigger warning for dissociation, panic attack, and daddy issues. but hey, we made it to the halfway point!
The front door nearly came off the hinges as Beau fled from the house. There were no voices calling after her, because her parents did not shout. They made sure Beau understood that well every time they upset her, when she was the only one screaming in the living room during an argument.
She wasn’t sure when it started raining, didn’t care to know. But it was icy and sharp against her skin as Beau sprinted down the sidewalk of this stupid suburban sprawl.
Boots splashing against wet pavement, breath catching in her throat in sharp heaves, Beau ran. She ran, and ran, and ran, and ran, and—
Stumbling over the dip of the curb she had forgotten about, Beau almost toppled over on the road. Messily regaining her footing, Beau kept running. She choked on the petrichor in the air and made a sharp left out of the development. This route was familiar. An old jogging habit from high school. It brought her no comfort as she pushed and pushed her body faster down the back road toward the open fields.
Her first stride against the grass left her boot sinking with an unpleasant squelch into mud and saturated earth. The grass had been cut in recent weeks, so it only reached her knees rather than her hips. The wildflowers and weeds that bloomed had long since dried up into brittle grass with the heat of summer. A field full of skeletal grass and brittle petals, a graveyard of beautiful, tragic resilience.
Beau found marginally less sinking ground before her knees buckled and she collapsed on her back against the wet earth. The grass bent and snapped beneath her weight, forming a Beau shaped indent that would remain until new grass found a way through the layer of its predecessor. At least something would remember her.
The rain poured down over Beau, continuing to soak her to the bone in the chilled summer air. From this angle, the storm was dizzying. A vertigo sensation of watching something come right for you, exposed, yet unable to move away. Beau blinked against the steady drip of rainwater against her skin and gagged on a sob.
She wasn’t sure how much time passed before her phone chirped in her pocket, tugging Beau sharply back from her listless spiral. With numb fingers slick with rain, she pulled her phone free and found Yasha’s contact smiling at her from the screen.
“Beau?”
Oh, she had answered the call. Yasha’s voice was tinny and distant through her speaker, and Beau sniffled as she moved it toward her ear.
“Beau?” Yasha said again, more urgently.
“Yash,” Beau mumbled, her lips thick, detached.
“Where are you?”
“Field,” Beau said, limbs tingling with renewed sensation. “Outside the development.”
“Okay,” Yasha said. There was movement in the background, rustling for an extended minute before the distinct sound of a car being unlocked. “Don’t leave.”
“Okay,” Beau said.
Yasha stayed on the phone, the familiar rumble of a car engine keeping Beau company on the line as Yasha talked herself through the drive. Now and then, she would call for Beau, tell her how far away she was after Beau confirmed she was still there.
“I’m here,” Yasha said, the muffled shift of a car changing gear accompanying the statement. “Hang on.”
Seconds - or maybe years - passed before Yasha’s looming figure interrupted the cascade. A hand reached down to Beau, the other holding an umbrella aloft. Beau blinked without rain in her eyes and reached up. She saw her hand shaking profusely before Yasha grabbed it, but didn’t feel any of it.
Yasha hauled her upright and wrapped a steadying arm around Beau’s trembling shoulders as the world dipped and spun. Beau choked on another sob and pressed her weight more firmly into Yasha’s side.
“I’ve got you,” Yasha murmured, angling the umbrella to shield Beau more fully. “Just hang on.”
Yasha led Beau back to her truck, going around to the passenger side first and helping Beau hoist her numb limbs into the seat. Yasha had put towels down in anticipation. Once Beau was securely settled, she shut the door and hurried to the driver’s side. Tossing the umbrella in the back, Yasha stretched into the back and returned a moment later with a thick blanket. She tucked it over Beau’s lap, securing the edges around Beau’s waist and fussing to make sure her legs were properly covered.
“Can you get your shirt off?” Yasha asked, voice quiet, as she reached into the back again.
Beau fumbled with the hem for a dazed moment, helpless and frustrated with her numb fingers. A noise of despaired frustration escaped her without permission as Yasha returned to the front seat.
“Do you want my help?” Yasha asked, voice soft and eyes kind. She had asked Beau this question before on various occasions, and never made it sound accusing or derogatory. Beau felt a fierce pulse of affection and clung to the sensation through the paralyzing numbness.
“Please.”
Yasha made quick work of Beau’s shirt, leaving her shivering in a damp sports bra. With gentle hands, Yasha tugged a baggy, dark hoodie over Beau’s wet hair, swaddling her in warmth and a familiar musk. Beau pulled the collar over her nose and breathed in deeply, letting it settle her frayed nerves and pour awareness back into her rain numb limbs. She pulled the edges of the sleeves down over her knuckles and curled her fingers into the worn material.
Yasha leaned over and cranked up the heat, air blasting from the vents a few seconds in delay.
“Do you need anything?” Yasha asked, her soft voice barely heard over the whir of the heating.
“Can you kiss me?”
“Beau,” Yasha said, eyebrows turned down, voice hesitant.
“Yasha,” Beau said, voice strained and pleading. Yasha said her name like a warning and Beau said hers like a prayer. “I’m here, I promise. I just need you to kiss me. Just once.”
Yasha pressed her lips into a thin line, still looking distinctly upset. Beau wanted to scream.
But Yasha reached out, cupping her warm, calloused hands against Beau’s icy cheeks. She pressed her forehead to Beau’s, eyes fluttering closed as she lingered there, holding Beau close. Beau sagged into Yasha’s touch, chest tight and eyes tacky with rain and unshed tears.
“I’ve got you, Beau,” Yasha murmured, tracing her thumb over Beau’s cheekbone. “I’ve got you.”
Hand shaking more than Beau wanted it to be, she wrapped unsteady, numb fingers around Yasha’s wrist and heaved out an exhale. Yasha leaned in and pressed a soft, quick kiss to Beau’s trembling lips. Beau didn’t chase after her retreating mouth, so Yasha returned for another careful kiss, lingering this time, though she didn’t move. Beau’s skin was rain slick against Yasha’s hand, her lips cold and wet against Yasha’s chapped mouth. It was a strange contrast, but Yasha didn’t seem to mind. She allowed Beau to relish the point of contact for a few moments before pulling back enough to look down at her.
Yasha pushed Beau’s wet hair from her face and tucked it behind her ear.
“Let’s go to my place,” Yasha said. She waited for Beau’s nod before slowly removing her hands to face the steering wheel.
The drive was quiet, Beau pulling her focus down to getting herself somewhat warm and dry. Her joggers were chafing, clinging to her skin with a damp weight beneath the blanket in her lap. Somewhere in the drive, the rain lessened to a misty drizzle; the sky lightening a fraction to a softer grey.
Yasha pulled into the parking lot of her apartment building before long, coming round the truck to help Beau out and wrap her firmly in the blanket. Beau watched blearily as Yasha gathered up the towels and Beau’s shirt before leading the way inside.
As Yasha held the door open for Beau, the threshold banished all the tension Beau tried to carry inside and left her uncoiled and trembling. Yasha dumped her armful of wet items inside the door after she locked it, unwound Beau from the blanket, and steadied Beau on her way out of her joggers. She swept Beau up in her arms and made for the sofa, burying Beau in her favorite blanket before heading into the kitchen.
Beau flopped sideways on the couch, the cushion sagging beneath her weight, as she pulled the blanket over her head. She tucked her knees to her chest and forced the air out of her lungs. The air beneath the thick, fuzzy blanket was stale and hot, but Beau stayed hidden.
A short eternity later, Yasha tapped on Beau’s shoulder, dragging her from her cocoon. She had a mug of steaming tea in her hand and a half there smile at the corner of her mouth.
Beau shifted enough for Yasha to slide into place beneath Beau’s head, reclining against the arm of the couch and pulling Beau into her chest. Beau fumbled to adjust the blanket over them both before taking the tea from Yasha. The heated ceramic seared against Beau’s fingers and she gripped it with more force, letting it ground her. Steam curled over her nose as Beau inhaled, bleeding warmth into her frayed edges.
Yasha didn’t ask as they sat there, only keeping Beau in the circle of her arms. Beau felt safe enough to speak up first. Her was voice shot and hoarse.
“I got into a fight with my dad this morning,” Beau said. She stopped to clear her throat and adjust the mug in her hands. “I have his face, y’know.”
“Beau,” Yasha said, voice quiet and sad.
“I keep finding pieces of him,” Beau hurried on, not ready to hear what she thought Yasha was going to say. “I hate it when I do. So I keep trying to smother them, or ignore them, or cut them out of me and throw them back at him. I never asked for this - I never asked for him to come back into my life after I went to college.”
Beau set her mug aside on the table, her fingers shaking as soon as she released it. She almost took it right back, just to have something to steady herself with. But she also had the impulse to chuck it across the room, so she left it where it was.
“He’s like a ghost, except he’s still alive and way too real. And everyone I meet in this fucking town seems to know who he is. It’s horrible. I feel like a shadow, or a tumor. Sometimes I can’t tell if he’s trying to get rid of me or if I’m trying to get rid of him. Why do I even have to do that in the first place? I shouldn’t have to push my father away. I’m his kid - but sometimes it’s like he doesn’t even want me around. If he didn’t want me, why did he have me in the first place? He clearly wasn’t ready for a kid! And I didn’t ask for this - to be born! To suffer for his mistakes and his shortcomings. I don’t want to be like him, but every time I look in the mirror, I keep seeing him.”
Beau buried her fingers in her damp hair, tugging at loose strands and undoing her bun. Her chest ached with panic, her throat and tongue felt disgusting. It weighed like sludge, looked like oil slick in puddles, iridescent in the wrong way. It tasted like copper and burned her nostrils like sewage mixed with petrichor and mud and Beau gagged on it all. She scratched at her chest under Yasha’s hoodie, trying to clean off the dirt of an unwanted legacy. Beau had to get it off, she had to throw it away, find her own path, regain the footing she found at college, run, run, run, run—
“Beau.”
Yasha’s voice, quiet and upset and pressed against the shell of Beau’s ear.
“Breathe.”
Sucking in a ragged gasp, Beau faltered on the exhale and keened as she pulled her knees to her chest.
Yasha let her mourn for a few moments, holding her, before turning Beau around to face her. Chest to chest, Beau pressed against Yasha’s ribs like she might melt their bones together and forget who she was.
“Look at me,” Yasha whispered, firm beneath the calm. Beau met her gaze, eyes wet with her misery.
“You will never be your father.”
Beau’s breath hitched and caught on her inhale. She blinked, and a tear tipped over the crest of her eyelid. Yasha’s gaze flicked away from Beau’s, watching it fall before the dam broke.
Beau sobbed. Loud, and messy, and gut-wrenching, ugly heaves that made her sternum sore. She cried away the mud, the sludge, the oil slick rain water and found clean solidity against Yasha’s clavicle.
Yasha pressed tear damp kisses against Beau’s hairline and murmured comfort against her skin. Her fingers pulled through Beau’s drying hair, long undone by distress. Within the security of Yasha’s embrace, Beau shattered to pieces and collected the bits she wished to keep. It wasn’t a cure, but it was a start.

C3E05 reaction/liveblog
This ad bit just once again makes me want Sam to play a PC with a deeper voice.
I miss the fact that you can tell that they don’t shout stuff at Matt anymore because they don’t have a countdown any more. I’m sure he’s thrilled, but it’s just a little missing of the irreverent giggles.
Personal predictions, we WILL get Travis’s new PC this episode. I’m solely basing this off of how long it took to get Cad.
I am just WAITING for Matt to say Yasha instead of Yash. I AM WAITING FOR IT.
Also, Laudna continues to be best girl, but FCG is steadily gaining!
I do like this sort of general Marquesian accent that Matt has done, it’s very similar to Jarrett, but doesn’t feel stereotypical.
WHAT IS THIS CAMPAIGN. They are such disasters omg I love every bit of it! There’s a lot of chaos in this group, but it feels much more balanced than ExU did, so I don’t feel the overwhelmingly chaotic like I did for that. Maybe it’s the lack of scatological humor.
This continues to be amazing, and I did not expect Advik to be Gilmore!lite
Alright, so they’re not great or terrible at planning so far. Orym has the brain cell, AGAIN.
SAM NO werthers originals are actually delicious
Also does anyone else think that the gas can is actually just a water bottle? Like, it looks like a water bottle with then all the decoration built around it. If true, would probably be good for easy cleaning, just pop the bottle in and out.
I like that Imogen is completely unaffected by Laudna’s creepy mind whispers. Honestly, that little choice speaks volumes for characters.
I’m not shipping anyone yet (though I’m open to all ships), but UGH their friendship is so good
(actually I kinda want Imogen/Orym solely because I want to see Laura and Liam RP a relationship with these two calmer characters. ...that’s not a good reason for a ship, BUT OH WELL.)
eventually I am going to need all these Launda whispers tracked with all the various ‘outlying’ comments – such as Robbie asking for clarification because he’s confused, or Sam whispering hit point press
Fearne getting suck is AMAZING but I’m a little sad that it did mean that Taliesin got talked over. I wonder how much of the fail was legitimate and how much was a tiny Matt punish of don’t go over other players. (probably all legitimate. Matt rarely seems to do ‘punish’ tactics)
I’m so confused by Robbie’s drink, fyi
GUARDS OH NOOOOooooooo
Also, it’s a very interesting thing that Marquesian is used so frequently here, but still half the PCs don’t speak it. Unlike the previous campaigns where it was basically Common everywhere aside from individuals, it’s cool to have a place with two main languages, plus all the other individual aspects.
Ooooo, foggy lighting! Little drips in the background, not full rain or even drizzle, very nice! I do look forwards to them getting more used to it though and where the changes will become more seamless (not for a while, I’m sure though)
WHAT THE FUCK MATT THE DWARF IS LIQUIDING OUT OF THE HOLE WHAT THE FUCK WHAT THE FUCK
I like that Laura and Tal got the same initiative again! I want this to keep being a thing
Part of me is still freaking out at Matt for making their opponent have FOUR ATTACKS, but the other part of me is remembering that level three combat in C2 included things like the gnolls and such where there were multiple enemies, so even if they couldn’t make a lot of hits at once, there were many to make hits. So only having one main enemy with four attacks is probably something of a similar balance level, at least in terms of dealing damage (though it’s more likely to be focused on one PC rather than spread out)
Matt’s. Face. ALPHABATIZE. AND MATT’S FUCKING FACE OH MY GOD
I don’t know what Duginator is as a throwback for them. It just makes me think of Leverage.
Also it is so cool seeing the combat now as it’s really starting to become smoother and seeing all the different styles. Just how spells we’ve seen are suddenly new and fresh again because of the different flavors, different people throwing themselves into the fray versus running away, it’s so friggen cool.
Matt’s really leaning into the grotesque!! I love it and hate it at the same time. *gags*
Also, I really hope Liam has a backup character, because with the damage Orym takes as well as all the goading attacks, I can see him dying pretty easily.
I don’t get how this combo move is supposed to work. I hope it works soon with both attacks hitting so that we can see, because right now it just looks like it’s still an eldritch blast as normal but just flavored differently. There’s gotta be some sort of mechanic that either I’m not getting, or we haven’t seen yet.
Nooooo don’t do the Caduceus voice!!! Oh I miss him so much I MISS HIM SO MUUUUCH!!! And I still have like 9 or 10 episodes left in my C2 rewatch before he comes in.
...did Robbie not get a HDYWTDT in ExU? Or did he just not realize how absolutely hyped this group gets for it? (also, I am SO curious what this experience has been like for him! Going from Aabria DMing and playing with Matt to now having Matt DMing, and having half of the group the same but the rest different, with fairly different playstyles. I WANNA KNOW) *checks* Yeah! Dorian got a single one in ExU, but in one of the episodes where it was a HDYWTDT for each enemy down, not just the big bad.
Low level sorcs or wizards, man. Imogen, hope you don’t kick it!
Matt’s so frustrated, but I was thinking jizz when it was first mentioned and I’m shocked it took them as long as it did for them to lean into it! I was legit wondering if it was just ME with the dirty mind! Especially ‘cause Laura hadn’t reacted at all!
LOL Sam trolling SO HARD

once more, unto the breach
beau gets worried about yasha being out on her vision quest so she goes looking for her. just thinking about the idea of a goodbye conversation and what it might look like (or not) for them
spoilers for c2e130
...
Beau waits a good hour, hour and a half after Yasha heads out into the storm before she grows too impatient to let Jester braid her hair any longer. She wants to be respectful of Yasha’s communing process, whatever that might be, but Cad’s already put on his pajamas and Caleb walked in a little teary-eyed about forty-five minutes ago and Veth has been shockingly quiet most of the evening since leaving her family and it’s all feeling very ‘end of days, doom and gloom, we are walking into certain death make sure you kiss your loved ones one last time’ and the truth is, Beau doesn’t really have any loved ones. She has her biological family, but she can’t really say she loves any of them. Can’t really say any of them love her. For all intents and purposes, she has no family. Except the Nein.
Except Yasha.
She can still hear Lucien’s voice rattling around in her brain, feel the clenching moment as she whipped her head away and felt him grab her mind, hold onto it for a moment too long, those eyes glowing brighter and brighter, menacing, threatening. It had been truly terrifying. And though she could feel Caleb next to her, she knew he was there and if he had to stop her he could have but she’s done with people fucking with her head and with her body. So. No fucking thanks.
She thinks she should wait for Yasha to come back. Or for the rain to quiet. But neither thing seems imminent and Beau can’t sit still. She’s too keyed-up. From Lucien being a cock, from the whole ‘3 locations 2 planes plus some time travel later’ long-as-fuck day she’s had, from the gravity of the people around her and their somber moods, it’s hard to say. But it’s disconcerting. Unsettling. They aren’t grave people. Even Caduceus, who sort of has it in his moniker, is light-hearted and jovial even on his worst days.
Well. Apparently not on his worst days.
The rain is still coming down. She heard some crashes of thunder a while ago, something about the storm feeling much too close, but it’s since died, and only a heavy, endless, drenching downpour remains. Beau hopes that means that whatever Yasha had to say to Kord she already managed to say. She hopes it doesn’t mean Yasha’s dead, like she failed some trial and was subsequently smote (smitten? smited? got struck by fucking lightning or whatever) by an angry entity. The last thing they need right now is to piss off another god.
It should be hard to find Yasha. The rain is heavy, the grove is large, and with the soggy ground there isn’t much hope for tracks. But if Beau looks very closely (and her investigation is very good) she can just make out a hint of light, somewhere in the distance.
She doesn’t try to rush her approach, but she doesn’t try to hide it, either. She picks up the pace once Yasha’s form comes into view, and she can see her sitting straight-backed, with her head tilted, eyes closed towards the sky, letting the rain wash over her. She’s been out here for hours and it looks like it. Every inch of her is sodden and heavy. Her clothes, minimal, because it looks like she stripped down before doing whatever meditation she tried and shit, fuck, now they’re gonna have to deal with hypothermia, too?
But as she steps closer, into Yasha’s space, she sees a puff of warm breath leave her mouth, and Beau could swear, she could swear — if she weren’t so sleep-deprived and completely running on fumes — a little crackle of electricity on her lips.
Beau blinks, and it’s gone.
“Yasha?” she asks quietly after a moment, afraid of disturbing the peace. Yasha doesn’t answer her. Beau frowns, and walks another step forward. “Yash?” She tries again. Nothing.
The steady rise and fall of Yasha’s chest comforts her a little. And Yasha trusts the Stormlord with everything that she is.
Her mind thusly made up, Beau sits softly beside her crosslegged, in her own stance of meditation. She doesn’t close her eyes, doesn’t attempt to reach out to Ioun or the Somnovum or anything else. Not again. Not tonight.
Instead, she sits silent vigil next to Yasha, her hair growing wetter and wetter, waiting. Just waiting.
It seems a very long time before Yasha opens her eyes, but eventually she does. One moment Beau is carefully watching her face, then she blinks and Yasha is looking right back at her.
“Hey,” Beau says when their eyes meet. She scans closely, and feels Yasha doing the same to her. Maybe this is their new ritual. Checking to make sure the other hasn’t been hurt, or possessed, or further corrupted, in the few moments they were parted from each other. Safety feels so tenuous. But Beau is comforted to see nothing but Yasha behind her eyes.
“Hi,” Yasha says, a little breathlessly. Now that Yasha’s emerged from whatever weird storm dream, Beau can feel a subtle shift in the air. Like the very atmosphere around Yasha — and only around Yasha — is charged. She feels the hairs on her arms slowly rise. It might be the cold but Beau doesn’t think so. There’s a warm hum buzzing between them. Beau wonders, if they were to touch, whether it’d be something like rubbing your socked feet against a plush rug before touching a blade.
Yasha is holding her new blade in her palms, the borrowed platinum great sword from Kima, and it takes a moment for Yasha to react to where Beau’s attention has turned, as if she hadn’t noticed it at all. Beau knows it hasn’t felt right in her hands. Yasha can use just about any sword under the sun, but this sword was special, they could all tell just from looking at it. And though It would probably still be deadly in Yasha’s hands, there was something blocking her from using its full capabilities.
Beau can’t seem to look away from its gleaming edge. There is something different about its shape, or maybe its sheen, or maybe its sharpness, or maybe its runes, or maybe the faint glow of light it seems to catch and then consume and then give off from the light in Yasha’s palms. It’s the same blade and yet it isn’t, and Beau can’t pinpoint the how or the why, only that it’s in Yasha’s hands and Gods but does it look right there. Like it belongs. Like it’s always belonged.
“Oh,” Yasha says quietly. “I feel it, now.”
Beau shifts next to her, the squelch of wet ground and mud under her ass, creeping inside her boots. She barely notices it. She lays her hand on Yasha’s lap (no static shock, she’s a little disappointed (don’t judge) to realize). She doesn’t take Yasha’s hand, and she doesn’t touch the sword. Just sits there for a moment.
“Have you been out here a long time?”
Probably. Hard to say really. It’s all just been cold and wet and night time. But Beau just shakes her head. “Not long.”
“I’m sorry I kept you up.”
“I was up anyway. Couldn’t sleep. Had a weird thing happen.” Don’t talk about that right now. “And I… wanted to make sure you were okay.” Yasha smiles at her. A beat passes, and then two. “Are you okay?”
Yasha’s smile doesn’t waver. She nods. “I think so. Yes. I feel… the Stormlord has helped me. I feel… closer to him. Stronger.”
Beau’s answering smile is one of relief. “I’m so glad,” she says, with every breath of sincerity she has in her.
“What about you? Are you doing alright?”
Beau shrugs. “Yes and no, I guess.” Yasha doesn’t speak, patiently waiting for Beau to continue on her own when she’s ready. The cool rain drips down Beau’s eyelashes. She might almost mistake them for tears, in a different situation. In a different conversation. “The mood is pretty grim, tonight.” Beau ventures after a moment. “Can’t help but feel like everyone’s… saying goodbye. Which is weird. Kind of pessimistic. We’re usually confident…” she pauses, remembering Vokodo— “well, even if we aren’t confident going into a fight, we’re usually a little more…” She trails off, unable to explain exactly the mix of bombast, narcissism, cockiness, and stupidity that characterizes most of their plans forming and then immediately falling to shit.
Yasha doesn’t need her to say it. She knows exactly what she means. She usually does. “I don’t know if it’s ever felt so dire. We’re facing several enemies that are stronger than us and who we do not understand. It’s an impossible task. And after the week we’ve had… well. It’s hard not to prepare for the worst.” A beat, then two. Yasha’s next question is delivered softly, and without judgment. “Did you come out here so we could say goodbye.”
Beau sighs. “No. I don’t want to say goodbye to you. Not even in like a hypothetical way.” She leans her head on Yasha’s shoulder, and Yasha tilts her own head to the side to meet her. Yasha’s skin is icy to the touch, but underneath it seems to almost vibrate; like a purr or a rumble somewhere beneath the surface, so faint that if Beau didn’t have insane passive perception, she would have missed it. “I feel like I only just got you,” she whispers, turning her head into Yasha’s soaked shirt. The smell of it is comforting, if not the feel. A little like dust, a little like Yasha, a little like the crackling electricity of a summer storm. But she needs the closeness.
Yasha kisses the crown of her head. “I don’t know what’s going to happen. But I think… this is what I was meant to do,” Yasha continues softly. “I always thought I would die on the battlefield.” Beau’s stomach lurches, because she can’t stop it, and she’s immune to poison but boy it doesn’t feel like it when it’s leeching under her skin like this.
Yasha must feel her tense, because her next words are spoken softly into Beau’s hair. “I don’t plan on dying in the next few weeks, of course.”
“Of course,” Beau agrees.
“I mean, we’ve only had sex one time. It would be a waste to die now.”
Beau can’t help her smirk. “I think we can count that as way more than one time, babe.”
Yasha’s ears turn a little red. Beau can see them when she turns to look up at her profile. “One night, then. That’s not enough time for me. So. We keep… trying not to die. Trying not to let everyone else die, either. That’s all we can do.”
Beau wraps both her arm all the way around one of Yasha’s biceps and squeezes. “I’m glad we’re going in together,” she murmurs. “For whatever it’s worth. There’s no one I’d rather fight with.”
“The feeling is very much mutual.” Yasha’s smile is soft. Lighter than the mood maybe calls for, but her body is thrumming with energy and she’s got a bright shiny new sword to strap to her back and she’s surrounded by maybe the most beautiful flowers they’ve ever seen, so Beau knows this is pretty much Yasha’s peak happy place. “Besides,” Yasha jokes, “they would all absolutely die without us.”
“Oh, one hundred percent.”
“Not three hundred hit points between them. Have you seen Fjord try to swing a sword?”
“Dude… I try not to laugh when we’re training together, but his arms are like noodles.” Yasha laughs. “And, you and I are, like, the only non-magic users in the bunch. Fuck all they’re gonna do against a guy who can cancel your magic if he so much as looks at you.”
“True, true. You make an excellent point.” Yasha pauses for a moment. “Just… try not to get your brain melted again, please? That was very scary. I didn’t enjoy it.”
Beau thinks back to a few hours ago. Lucien’s voice in her mind, his power tugging her in, the eyes glowing glowing glowing, the screaming of her visions, the cacophony of pain, Yussa and Molly and Lucien and Caleb and Halas and Vess DeRogna and all the mages who have been tempted by the power of the city. She thinks of her own burning curiosity. The feeling like maybe, somehow, if these eyes gave her more power, if she could use them…
She shifts and climbs nearly fully into Yasha’s lap, sword be damned. (She feels Yasha place it gingerly on the ground so no fear of inappropriately placed gash wounds they’d have to awkwardly explain to their pair of too-knowing clerics.) Yasha’s hands slip down her back and settle over the curve of her ass, stabilizing more than anything. Beau bends to kiss her.
“Are you gonna promise me that you’ll live through this?” Beau asks.
Yasha’s answer comes after a momentary pause, where she seems to genuinely think over her answer. “No,” Yasha says finally. “I don’t really see the point. Are you going to promise me that you’ll live through this?”
“I mean…” Beau obfuscates, a little playful. “If it’ll make you feel better?”
Yasha’s expression is a little dark. “I will kill anything that tries to take you.”
“I love it when you sweet-talk me.”
“I’ll do my best not to die,” Yasha says. “And I’ll do my best not to let you die.”
Beau bends to kiss her once more, slow and unhurried. “That’s a pretty good promise. I’ll promise you the same thing.”
“Good,” Yasha whispers against her skin, their wet clothes heavy laden with rain and mud, their bodies aching with exhaustion. “That’s all I can ask for.”
