Japan loves its seasonal festivals, whether that is the autumn colours of momiji or the pink blossoms of hanami picnics. Celebrating natural beauty is important and these sign posts help navigate the Japanese year. 

A local Aichi flower festival takes place in the city of Handa each year. The banks of the Yakachigawa are planted with the red spider lilies and wild flowers creating bursts of colour that attract pollinating insects and visitors. 

It was also a great opportunity to play with Rob’s camera. I watched some tutorials on how to actually use it. I’m pretty pleased with my first efforts. 

My friend Kat and I finally located the river, pretty hard to miss when you get there and enjoyed the beautiful weather and the scenery.
