I did a very quick very speedrun portrait of Laika, who was and will always be a very good girl.

She did not know what was to happen to her. I am comforted to know her handlers broke protocol several times in the run-up to launch to make her more comfortable, to give her some love.

She was a stray street dog who they thought nobody would miss. She was born, lived and died well before I was born - indeed, I believe before both of my parents were born - but I truly love and miss her.

The patron saint of one-way trips and journeys from which you cannot return, indeed.

Good girl, Laika.

I follow someone on IG who made their own drawing prompts list for October (very original idea wow 10/10).

Anyway it was all witch-themed. Make a witch inspired by the word. Etc.

The prompt for day 5 was Frog.

Wow, I thought to myself. Frogs. What a cool idea! I'll make a little frog meditating with some incense and wearing a little witchy cape!

I spend a while~ researching frog anatomy and such.

I see the artist has uploaded their Day 5/Frog submission and...

... it's literally just a girl with a frog???

Anyway I ploughed bravely ahead because frog erasure is Not Cool.

I may have also made him a saint/angel/Profound Being of Your Choice

Sydney's team is a trollolololol team. The sort that on paper doesn't seem that bad - but get into battle and you'll realise her scrappy team has all sorts of moves that are (for want of a better word) annoying.

Think Swagger. Minimise. Double Team. Curse. Destiny Bond. Toxic. Spore. Sydney uses them all with a grin on her face matched by her long-term partner Pokémon, Mightyena.

When she's not battling or training her team, Sydney can be found helping Nurse Joy to rehabilitate abandoned and injured Pokémon.

Also uploading my other Mikikyu painting from the other day, because why not.

I wish I'd blended the paint a bit prettier, but other than that I like this. I had a lot of fun painting the squiggly bits!! Mimikyu is fun to paint. I've returned to adding random splashes of colour once finished painting the main piece because 1) it's hella fun & 2) it's my painting & I can do whatever I want.

I have been using a random number generator to give me a number between 1 and 1042, & whatever number it gives me I have to try to draw that Pokémon. However! The point is to practise drawing things as basic shapes FIRST instead of trying to make it perfect immediately.

My partner is away for a few days. So, aside from eating lamb that I ended up not enjoying, what have I done?

Paintings. I made paintings.

I paint whilst my partner is at home, of course, but usually I am confined to the spare bedroom, which is a mess of boxes and things and I cannot sit whilst I paint - so painting becomes less enjoyable and more frustrating, you see.

So I painted in the living room for the first time in ages, regretting the lamb (maybe I have gone so long without eating it that it's simply too greasy?), hoping the heat breaks soon. Wondering whether I can keep my hair in braids in perpetuity to avoid washing it (I am already on day 4 of not washing my hair. I am not especially depressed this time - it's simply too hot in the evenings to contemplate using the hairdrier).
