The fandom gets smaller, but we are still here. Very grateful to everybody writing YR fanfics!!!! I can think of some reasons other than shrinking fandom that cause less comments on them.

I hope all the writers that are inspired by YR will keep writing 🙏🙏🙏🙏we need them!!!! we need them now more than ever when the show ended and nothing is left for us but these beautiful fan works, and we will need them further because this story is timeless

Wille is the most selfish thing Simon has ever wanted.

Throughout the entire series, Simon is always loyal to a fault, always taking care of everyone else — even when it’s inconvenient. The only time he does something for himself is when he is in pursuit of Wilhelm.

His whole life, Simon has had to sacrifice or share victories. Even his own voice, which should be entirely his own to sing with, is corrupted by the crown. But what Simon has with Wilhelm is purely what he wants, and has nothing to do with what anybody else wants. It isn’t about Linda, or Sara, or August, or the Queen. It’s just about the two of them — and Simon has never had anything in his life like that, something that is completely his. That belongs to him. That no one, other than Wilhelm, truly knows, truly understands how it feels.

And that’s why it is so different. That’s why it is so monumental, and why both Simon and Wille fight so hard to keep it. It is both of their true selves fighting for what they truly want.

Fandom New Year's resolutions...

I found myself thinking quite a lot about this fandom and my place in it over the holidays. It was already on my mind due to Faves Fest, and the hate anon I got on Christmas Eve and the general discussion on the confessions blog on whether shipping Wille/Felice was "allowed" made sure it remained there.

I've summarised some of my thoughts as resolutions concerning my presence in the fandom in 2025.

Keep writing and posting my "diabolical" and "deranged" thoughts here when I feel like it, and especially "dying on the hill of Henry and Walter's entirely made up relationship" on ao3. Sorry not sorry, anon. That's the corner of the YR sandbox that I have enjoyed playing in since August 2021, and I will keep playing until l run out of things to say or stories to write. .

Keep reblogging my friends' posts and posts by others interested in the non-Wilmon aspects of the show (when I come across them). Including gifsets etc! I'm not naturally great at paying attention to those because I'm more of a text post person, but they still deserve to be seen by as many people as possible. .

Spend less time scrolling tumblr as a whole. It takes far too much energy and headache-free time away from fic writing and keeping up with my friends. .

Make a safe and comfortable space for my more personal posts. Frankly, the hate anons scrolling my blog feels similar to that one time when someone broke into our basement storage and tried on some of my old jackets, leaving them in a bundle on the floor with the sleeves turned inside out. I washed them, but they all went to goodwill because I didn't feel comfortable wearing them anymore. In the same spirit, I've taken all personal posts except my intro off this blog and reblogged them to a new one that is currently set to private. When it's ready, I will make a separate post asking if anyone wants to follow me there. .

No longer allow anons. I have wanted to keep them on in the past to provide a forum for thoughts that people might be too shy to express on their own blog, such as the Stedrika debate a while back and some past anons about August's ED and accountability, but I'm done risking hate for it. If you want to discuss something with me, you are always welcome to do so in your own name. Whether in agreement or mutually respectful disagreement! .

Radically accept the state of the fandom at large: interest in our corner of the sandbox is what it is. My friend and I had made some plans to liven things up, but after recent events, I'm backing out. I don't want to spend my remaining time in the fandom feeling demoralised; I want to focus on what I enjoy. At the risk of sounding like an obnoxious brag, I can look back on my past contributions to the non-Wilmon corner with pride. Countless people have told me it was my longfic that got them interested and invested in Henry as a character, and it also started the Walty ship that has since become a fandom staple! (Receipts: my fic was the first one from Henry's POV, I added the Henry/Walter tag on ao3, and my readers coined the ship name. The fic was quite popular in its heyday, with 700 to 1,200 reads per chapter. It's still the fourth-most commented fic in the fandom, the most kudo'ed fic with a non-Wilmon focus [although Wilmon do feature prominently as side characters], and the 116th most kudo'ed out of the total 5,880 YR fics on ao3.) But the time for that has been over for a while now. Interest in non-Wilmon aspects and characters, which was always remarkably low, has waned as the people in the fandom have changed and new seasons have been added to the canon. Which is perfectly fine; everyone enjoys the show in their own way! Live and let live. Except... Even that seems to be a controversial opinion nowadays. The sad fact is that puritanical, fundamentalist sentiment has gained more and more ground in this fandom as time has gone by. There are people who feel the need to police others' shipping, opinions, and interpretations of canon. People who see all characters who either stand in Wilmon's way or represent the establishment that Wille is meant to break free from as rotten and unworthy of further exploration, and by extension, the fans who still want to explore them as morally dubious. People who see themselves as righteous warriors and anonymous hate mail to their "fandom adversaries" as a force for good. I never thought back when I was posting my longfic that I would one day be sent hate on Christmas Eve for making an analysis post about Henry and Simon's dynamic for an event that was meant to be about celebrating your fandom faves. Or that I would dread to publish said hate anon, because I was afraid people would either agree with it or more likely ignore it. But here we are. To reiterate, I'm not going anywhere. I'm just going to focus on enjoying my corner rather than trying to wave people over. .

The show has ended but our love for Young Royals did not. This is why we decided to create this blog, to host events for the Young Royals fandom so that we can continue spreading our love for this show.

Events are for everyone, not only for fanfic writers. We want everyone to feel included in those events. So fanartist, gif makers, edits maker, please feel welcome in the events we will host in the future as we wish to feel all the art forms in our upcoming events.

Also, this account is not to overshadow other events in the fandom, but to create new ones. We hope, with those events, that everyone feels encouraged to continue creating for this show that changed our lives.

YOUNG ROYALS FOREVER

After the finale I had conversations with people disappointed by S3. What surprised me, was how strongly we all felt and that we had the same issues with the season: the characters didn't feel like themselves, plot didn't make sense, a crucial plotline was retconned, the happy ending was so unearned that it was impossible to believe Wilmon would last.

There are many more problems with S3 that could be point out but this post is not about them. Currently, YR fandom is doing what it does best: yells at those who feel differently than people in the certain small clique feel while praising itself for open-mindedness and acceptance of different opinions.

Righteous indignation performed online by adult women is a powerful tool. It makes impression, it halts conversation or redirects it to completely different issues; that is exactly why they keep using it. Except people who didn't like S3 need a space to talk their feeling through.

If you one of those people, I hope you will find such a space. And I hope you will figure out a way to enjoy the show despite S3.

Alright, so this lovely photo of Tallinn inspired me to write a short fic(no room for drabbles here, lol) of Wilmon's first time in Estonia, my home country. Let me live in this fantasy and please enjoy a small part of it:

Simon wasn't entirely sure why Wille, his sometimes stubborn but very cute and sexy boyfriend, took so long to lock a location for their early January winter wonderland trip. While in most times it was adorable how frustrated he got with himself, other times – like now – it was super annoying and Simon started to lose his patience with him, nearly groaning.

"So which one is it? One of the Baltic countries? Or elsewhere?" he asked him, styling his curls in front of a mirror.

"Hmm," Wille gazed at him and bite his lip, "What about Tallinn, Estonia? It's a short ferry ride away, we'd save money from it and I heard that it's lovely over there–"

Simon turned around and jumped him, giggling in their next kiss, "Yes! Yes yes yes! My auntie visited it a few years ago and loved it! Let's go to Tallinn!"

Wille laughed, "Why didn't you suggest it earlier then?"

Simon smiled widely, stroking his cheeks, “Because you wanted to decide where we'd go and I always want to give you a freedom to do that ever since you–"

Wille kissed him again, whispering, "I love you I love you I love you I love you!"

"I love you too, you dumbass!" Simon kissed him a bit longer, getting lost in it, remembered his musical performance and stepped back towards the mirror, rechecking his outfit. "How do I look? Not that I have time to change, but–"

"Stunning," Wille hummed next to his ear, hooking his arms around his waist. "You look absolutely stunning."

"Good," Simon said, turning in his arms, "Don't forget to pick up my mama and Sara. Taking a bus is a now go at this point. And flowers–"

"I won't!" Wille assured him. "And I'll get the flowers. Now, go! Or you'd be late!"

Simon pressed a hard kiss on his boyfriend's awaiting lips, reached for his notebook and coat, walking out of their bedroom. "After tonight we'll plan all the details of our trip, maybe Sara wants to join us."

"Mhm," Wille said with a smile so big that it hurt his cheeks, "See you there!"

It’s more of a fic reader confession- I feel like a failure. Everyone in this fandom is so good and consistent at making comments on fics. I see the same people commenting on every chapter in many stories. I comment but not nearly enough as I would like. What is the secret to being a good commenter or at least consistent one, because our authors deserve all the praise!

All right, I might regret this but I'm going to say it anyway.

If you hated S3 (or didn't hate it overall but have issues with it), then I fully support your right to criticise it as much as you want. Rant away, air all your grievances, get it all out. I might even agree with some of your criticisms and nitpicks, because as much as I personally loved S3 (and S2, always) I don't think it was perfect by any means.

But please, please don't start taking it out on your fellow fans. Don't accuse people of 'overlooking all the plotholes just because of a cheesy happy ending'. Don't accuse people of 'worshipping Saint Lisa' because they have a different opinion on the writing to you. Don't assume that everyone who enjoyed the final season was an 'abdication truther' (ugh I hate that term).

I've been that person before, hating something that everyone else in a fandom loved. It feels like screaming into the void, wanting to shake some sense into people because how can they love this plothole ridden mess?! Do they not see how bad the writing is?! Have they been brainwashed by some soppy scenes and cute kissing?!

Yeah, I've been there and it sucks. I highly recommend finding (or starting!) a groupchat of like-minded people to get it all out, do some cathartic ranting. But please, I am begging you, don't start taking it out publicly on your fellow fans.

We all watch shows for different reasons and get different things out of them. A plot point that was really important to you might have been a minor, easily ignored, niggle to someone else and vice versa. You can never assume you know what's meaningful to other people and what isn't.

And you know what - even if some people did only enjoy S3 because it has a happy ending, that's a valid reason to like something? I don't think that is the case for most people tbf and it's certainly not for me, but even if it was, so what? Life is hard and TV is escapism and happy endings for LGBT+ couples in film/TV are still, sadly, rare. Let people enjoy things.
