Barely remembered Beard putting him in a cab and telling the driver to take him to the hospital. Hadn’t asked Beard to do that, or told him he wanted to, his best friend simply always knew what he needed, knew in this particular doomed scenario he needed to see Jamie whether it hurt his heart or not.

Somehow he had found Jamie’s room, sat down and tried not to cry, tried not to scream, tried not to run. Maybe he could get Roy to punch him in the face or headbutt him or something later, a small amount of pain as penance compared to the pain his actions had caused Jamie. Somehow, Ted didn’t think it would take too much convincing his assistant coach to dole out the punishment that couldn’t make things right but would at least wake him up from this nightmare.
