HIIII LONG TIME NO SEEEEEEEEE

so it’s been a hot minute since I last posted on tumblr but I wanted to post some new and old drawings!! (Plus sm drawing I’ve already posted lmao) I used reference photos for the first three drawings, I used a noelle screenshot from the black clover movie for the first Sorano drawing on the left and then the Mei character information sheet drawing, Acier Silva was the reference photo I used followed by the second Sorano drawing on the left beneath the first one. Acier silva’a character information pose was my reference for that pose as well. But the three on the bottom? I did not use any reference photos for those. Are those all Mei? Yes. The two on the VERY bottom are Mei’s old designs and the the Mei drawing next to the second Sorano drawing is mei’s current design.

This has been on my mind for a while, so I have to ask. What are your inspirations from your art style? Cuz imo your art reminds me of the old DC Superhero Comics.

My major style inspiration is a manga called Black Clover. If you look far enough down my blog there's some fanart of it.

Always really admired Yūki Tabata as an artist, and a lot of my core aesthetics in art were molded after his own. That started almost 4-5 years ago during lockdown, so I've branched out into my own ideas and have my own aesthetics now. But the inspiration's still pretty obvious, especially when you put it up side by side.

Otherwise, I've adopted the quirks of drawing with lifelong friends. And that's about it. There's things I enjoy out of art, and I'm at the stage where I pursue those things mostly on my own.

Me and FunkBob are back at it again! Here is the eighth installment of our Toonami Lineup drawing! If you're new to these FunkBob and I draw the main character to each show new to Toonami since it's [adult swim] rebirth and arrange 5-7 when they've built up. We divvy up who does the pencil sketches and then I digitally ink and color them. We've been working on these more as a group and this should make the next several drawing move much more smoothly. In fact, we have the next 3 picture's worth of characters inked and ready for coloring! See you for the next one soon!

As you probably know, Black Clover is getting a movie! It's set to release worldwide on Netflix on March 31, 2023 June 16 (and at Roadshow in Japan). And of course, to promote the movie, a website has opened up:

The site has some information about the movie that may interest you, and that's why I created this "guide" so that you can have a better idea of what it says.

A few disclaimers: I did pass these through google translate, but I have also taken four semesters of Japanese so I have an idea of why and where the online translation is messing up. I double-checked the words and sentence structure, and tried cleaning up the translations into something that is hopefully more coherent... 😅 But if you know more and can provide some insight, then that'd be cool 🤙

Note0:

Japanese doesn't use pronouns nearly as often as English (this includes "I" and "you"). A lot of "I, you, he, she, they, it" that you see in something that was translated from Japanese was added so that the sentence would make sense.

Japanese doesn't have words for definite articles ("the") or indefinite articles ("a"/"an"). That's added in when translating because otherwise the sentence starts sounding off. So don't get caught up on that.

When you go the site, the first thing you see is the poster. The words at the top of the poster say "Not giving up is our magic"

It seems that the visuals and the special report for the Black Clover movie has finally been revealed!!

I was worried about whether to do this movie based on the original work; I had a story depicting the "Wizard King" transformed into film!

Said story is "this wasn't done in the original work" but I think it's going to be a movie where you can enjoy a large-scale flashy battle between Asta's group and a group of tough enemies!

Right now, Studio Pierrot, including Director Tanemura, are putting all efforts into creating this...!!

For the record, the second paragraph doesn't actually use the word "I" but one would figure that the worried one would be Tabata – or maybe it's "they"? "They" who? The studio? Idk

There was no full stop after that clause, just a comma, but the verb wasn't in te-form, it's in past tense so... it could function as a complete statement on its own, couldn't it? But I guess the clauses are related, right? I put a semi-colon as compromise 😅

The next clause ends in the past tense form of morau もらう which means "to receive" but can also mean "had (someone) do (something)" if it follows a verb in te-form... And it does here 化してもらいました kashite moraimashita. Which I guess leans towards it being something Tabata would like to be done?

I think ~temorau is more of a "soft" had-someone-do, not something made to be done by twisting your arm or anything (there's probably a different verb for that kind of had-someone-do).

「原作でやらないんだコレ」という物語 confused me somewhat... The words within 「these」 is the "this wasn't in the original work" bit (and those corner brackets are the equivalent of quote marks). Then after that is という物語 where 物語 is "story"

という [to iu] is something used when calling something a name, like in the Black Clover episode "A man named Fanzell" = ファンゼルという男 Fanzell to iu otoko (otoko means "man")

"A story named 'this wasn't in the original work'."?? That sounds...odd...and idk why, maybe because of his afterwards, but I kinda get a "sorry that I never included this before" vibe?

Produced by Studio Pierrot, that has handled many hit anime works such as "Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War", "Naruto", and "Yu Yu Hakusho" from Weekly Shonen Jump. "King Sword" is what I chose to translate that word as. Maybe that's the name of the sword since it was in quotes?

The movie title, "Sword of the Wizard King", is written as 魔法帝の剣 <- so it contains the kanji used for the quoted word. We'll see what the official translation is and what the "king sword" even is later on…

Also that's not me filling in the pronoun – there was finally a pronoun used in the Introduction section! Karera 彼ら is "they" so all four of them are bad huehuehue

Asta is a boy who was born unable to use magic in a world where magic is everything. In order to overcome adversity and prove his power, Asta, together with Yuno, aim to become the pinnacle of mages, the "Wizard King", and have fought many tough opponents.

Yūki Tabata's Black Clover manga is moving to the Jump Giga magazine. The 368th chapter in Weekly Shonen Jump 2023 issue #38 is the final chapter that will run in the magazine. The next chapter of the manga will be in the 2024 Winter issue of Jump Giga. Shueisha publishes four issues of Jump Giga every year, one in each season.
