The biggest tech stories of the week ending August 15
The world of tech doesn’t stop or slow down for anyone. Launches, developments, announcements and controversies can happen anytime; and it can be difficult to be on top of everything. What if there were a way to filter out the most important happenings and consume them in a skimmable format?
Welcome to TechRadar India’s roundup of the biggest tech stories of the week. Get all the news that you need to know about in one place! Updated every Friday, this compilation of the best way to get all the news you might care about without any of the noise. Sounds perfect for a weekend read, doesn’t it?
Fortnite’s endgame: why an Epic fight with Apple and Google could lead to major changes
It didn’t take long after Fortnite tried circumventing the App Store’s 30% cut before Apple yanked the game off its platform, and Google off the Play Store too. But now that looks like it all went according to Epic’s plan: the gaming giant immediately filed lawsuits against both Apple and Google decrying their monopolistic practices and started riling up gamers to complain to the App Store owner. It’s still unclear who’ll win, but this is sure to create ripples.
Xiaomi unveils two cool new smartphones – but we might never get to see them
Xiaomi is celebrating its 10th anniversary this week. To commemorate this, the Mi 10 Ultra and the Redmi K30 Ultra were announced, pushing boundaries at either end of the price spectrum. Don’t get too excited though, as they won’t be making their way out of China… at least for now.
The next company looking to get a share of TikTok is… Jio?
TikTok might be forced to sell its operations in many countries if it wants to continue operations. For India, the saving grace could be none other than Jio platforms by Reliance. Not surprising, given the number of investments it has garnered in recent times. So, when we read reports of a possible buy-out of TikTok’s India business by a company that straddles every facet of India’s business – from eCommerce to oil – it sounded plausible.

Twitter rolls out Tweet reply control to users in India
In a bid to give users better control over their Tweet-conversations on the platform, Twitter has made its reply-limiting feature available to all users. Quite simply, the new feature allows Twitter users to decide on who gets to reply to their tweets. However, users who can’t reply to a tweet will still be able to view, retweet, retweet with a comment, share, and like the tweet.
We finally have more Nvidia MX350-powered laptops in India
The new Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i is an ultrabook that hopes to punch above its weight with its performance. Configuration options include a 10th gen Intel Core i5, 16GB of RAM, 512GB of SSD storage, and a rare Nvidia MX350 graphics card. Intrigued?
Wanted to show up on Google Search? It’s easier for Indians now!
Google says the feature called people cards, would be its first attempt in India and was a result of the affinity that people in the world’s second-largest internet market showed towards looking up their own names on Google Search. The Search feature would allow users to create their personalized identity that would make them easily discoverable.

POCO X2: The Rebranded Version Of Redmi K30 To Launch In India On February 4th
The most anticipated and overly hyped brand in the history of the Indian smartphone market i.e. POCO is all set to launch its second device on February 4th. The first device from POCO was named POCO F1 and it was an instant hit among the users and it surprised the whole smartphone industry with its premium features at a price almost half of the other devices with the same specification. The tagline of this smartphone was ‘Everything You Need And Nothing You Don’t’ and it falls true on every aspect. This device was launched back in August of 2018 and since then everyone was eagerly waiting for the next iteration supposed to be POCO F2.
Previously POCO was a subsidiary brand of Xiaomi but now the CEO of Xiaomi India Manu Kumar Jain has confirmed that POCO is now a separate legal entity and will become a separate brand in itself. So, the hype was again on the peak as everyone was again into trap of expectation of POCO F2 but almost every POCO Fan was let down as the brand confirmed that they will be launching a new device under the brand name of POCO but it will not be POCO F2 instead it will be named as POCO X2.
Tumblr media
POCO X2 with 120Hz display
From all the leaks and official press releases and renders it can be easily confirmed that POCO X2 will be the rebranded version of Redmi K30 4G that was recently launched in China. In my personal opinion it was the most heartbreaking news for all the POCO fans as everyone was expecting something exceptional and out of the league specification and to be honest POCO X2 will not be following the league that was set by POCO F1 and it can’t even stand on there tagline of ‘Everything You Need And Nothing You Don’t’.
Here are some brief specification of POCO X2 or to be Redmi K30 4G
POCO X2 will have a display of 6.67 inches with a refresh rate of 120Hz and support of HDR 10 technology but the twist in the scheme is that the display is not an AMOLED display instead it is an IPS LCD display with an aspect ratio of 20:9 and a long pill-shaped punch hole on the top right corner of the screen that will be housing dual front camera setup with a primary lens of 20MP and a portrait lens of 2MP.
POCO X2 will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 730G SoC that is a pretty solid performer when it comes to multitasking and gaming. The chipset is based on 8nm architecture with a powerful Adreno 618 GPU.
Tumblr media
It will feature a quad-camera setup at the rear end where the primary camera will sport a 64MP primary shooter along with an 8MP ultra-wide lens coupled with two 2MP lenses where one of them will work as a depth sensor and the other will do the job of a dedicated macro lens that comes handy when you are supposed to take some close-up shots.
It will house a 4500mAh battery that can be easily juiced up with the help of a 27-Watt fast charger that will be included in the box. With the help of this charger, you will be able to charge your device from 0-100% in 70 minutes.
You will see a 3.5mm audio jack along with a Type-C port that will help you charge up your device. POCO X2 will support Wi-Fi Direct and will be working on Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band technology.
The device is expected to launch at a price of around $245 approx. or about Rs.18,000. This device is supposed to compete with realme X2 (realme XT 730G) that contains some similar specifications like quad rear camera setup Snapdragon 730G processor but it comes with an upper hand plus of having an AMOLED display instead of an IPS LCD display that can be found on POCO X2. You can have a look at the landing page of POCO X2 on Filpkart

Additionally, Realme has included a dual selfie camera setup at the front that houses a 32-megapixel primary front shooter.
iQoo 3 makes India debut

Like the Realme phone, it also support 5G networks in one version, not that those are useful in India right now. iQoo 3’s 4G-only 8GB + 128GB variant is priced at Rs. 36,990, while the 4G-only 8GB + 256GB model carries a price tag of Rs. 39,990. On the specs front, iQoo 3 runs Android 10 with the iQoo UI 1.0 on top. The phone has a 10-megapixel front camera with f/1.9 aperture as well.
Huawei Mate Xs introduced as Huawei’s second foldable phone
Huawei had big plans for MWC Barcelona 2020, however in the wake of its cancellation, the company unveiled the new Mate Xs phone as a part of an online-only event. It is the second foldable phone from the company and keeps the same form factor as its first one. Given the Huawei Mate X was never released outside China, the Mate Xs will become the company’s first foldable to get a global release.
The Best Budget TVs You Can Buy in India Right Now
Huawei Mate Xs will go on sale in March, priced at EUR 2,499 (roughly Rs. 1,93,000). In terms of the specifications, the phone is powered by Kirin 990 SoC, and packs an 8-inch flexible screen. You will also get 4,500mAh battery, four rear cameras, Android 10 without Google apps or Play Store, and a upgraded “falcon wing” hinge.
Redmi K30 Pro teased to launch in March
Xiaomi is preparing to launch the second phone in its Redmi K30-series in China in March. The company has started teasing the smartphone and has also discontinued the Redmi K30 Pro in its home market. Redmi K30 Pro will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC and sport a full-screen design, same as its predecessor.
There is no word on the India release right now, and there is a possibility that Redmi K30 Pro may debut as Poco F2 in the country, given the company launched Redmi K30 as Poco X2 in the Indian market. Other specifications of the phone are a mystery at this point, but given Xiaomi propensity for revealing pretty much everything about its phone before their official launch, we won’t have to wait for long.
Sony Xperia 1 II, Xperia Pro, Xperia 10 II announcement
Sony unveiled three new phones this week. While the new Xperia 1 II and Xperia 10 II are targeted to regular consumers, the Xperia Pro is aimed at creative professionals. Xperia 1 II comes with top-of-the-line specifications, including the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC and 256GB of onboard storage. Sony Xperia 10 II, on the other hand, is a mid-range phone with Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 chip.

The revised Jio Rs. 1,299 prepaid plan offers 24GB of 4G data, unlimited Jio to Jio voice calling, 12,000 Jio to non-Jio voice calling minutes, and 3,600 SMS messages. Furthermore, it also offers complimentary subscription of Jio suite of apps as well.
All these plan revisions and tariff hike has impacted Reliance Jio’s subscriber base. The latest data released by TRAI revealed that the telco onboarded just over 82,000 new subscribers in December last year, massive downfall from the 56,08,668 new subscribers that it had added in November. Jio’s total subscriber base increased from 36,99,33,852 in November to 37,00,16,160 subscribers by the end of December.

Cook also said that Apple will launch its physical retail stores starting 2021. Apple currently sells its products via partner retailers and distributors.

Poco X2 Flagship Killer Teaser Video out | Release Date | Price | Specs
Tumblr media
Xiaomi's sub-brand smartphone, the Pocophone F1, has overtaken the mobile phone industry in a few years and found that it must indeed be an affordable flagship smartphone. The smartphone-friendly result apparently surprised Xiaomi very much, as the company was disappointed to offer a repeat the following year. Now that the Pocophone is no longer overshadowed by Xiaomi, the independent brand is set to continue its approach of selling affordable flagship smartphones for the Indian market as well as for developing countries. The first device to come from the Sans-Xiaomi Pocophone is the Poco X2, and it seems that it could bring an affordable manifest.
Poco X2 branding and release date
There were previous rumors and speculation that the second generation Poco phone would be the Pocophone F2. It no longer seems as the company announced that its next iteration, the affordable flagship smartphone, will actually be the Poco X2. Poco did not stress the reason why it reduced the F1's popularity for its debut, but it is suggested at a glance on the early Specs sheet as it is not designed to be the successor to the Pocophone F1.
Tumblr media
We have a definite launch date for the Poco X2, which is scheduled for the official announcement on February 4, 2020, in India. However, we will see a release date two weeks after the launch.
The Design
All displays point to the Poco X2, which is positioned as the renamed model of the Xiaomi Redmi K30 4G. A product list for a Poco handset on the Indian BIS certification website shows that the X2 has the same model number as the Redmi K30 4G. In this case, we can expect a smartphone with a hole cutout on the screen for a selfie camera system with two lenses.   Poco X2 Specification The Pocophone F1 became famous in 2018 thanks to its Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC - the same chipset that powered flagship devices a few years ago - one of the cheapest smartphones with this processor. However, if rumors and leaks are suspected, the Poco X2 will not reach the dominant position in this division. Since the Poco X2 is a revised Redmi K30 4G, it is a Snapdragon 730G SoC handset. This processor is designed for upper mid-range smartphones. The same SD730G chipset can also be found on Mi Note 10 and Realme X2. Rumor has it that the Pocophone X2 has a memory configuration of 6GB / 64GB as the base model, but we definitely expect more RAM and ROM configurations. The Performance Because the Poco brand appeals to the public and to lower the cost of smartphone production, the company sacrifices some key components to the performance of the Poco X2. The Redmi K30 4G is equipped with a 6.67-inch LCD display with a spherical hole in which the selfie shooter can be accommodated. Therefore, it should also be Poco X2. Poco has confirmed that the new X2 display has a refresh rate of 120 Hz for smoother animations. As far as biometrics are concerned, there is still no smartphone with an LCD display with a fingerprint reader under the display. We doubt that the Poco X2 offers a fingerprint reader with an integrated power switch.
Tumblr media
Photography For the photo department, the Poco X2 is expected to have a 64-megapixel IMX686 sensor on the back. In addition to the main sensor, the Poco X2 has an 8MP ultra-wide lens, a 2-megapixel macro sensor and a 2MP lens for depth of field. A 20MP + 2MP selfie camera is expected to be installed on the front of the Poco X2. The battery Xiaomi has put a statue on the battery capacity of its smartphones over the years, and it seems like this will be the case with the Poco X2. Poco has already put an end to the rumors and confirmed that the X2 will quickly avoid charging with 27 W. In fact, Poco uploaded a video clip that charges the X2 to 40 percent in 25 minutes. The Redmi K30 4G from Xiaomi is equipped with a 4,500 mAh battery. We hope that the Poco X2 has a similar component. Pricing and availability With the sale price and release date of the Poco X2, the sales factor of the Pocophone F1 was that you got the flagship chipset and RAM for $ 300. A recent Intel suggests that the Poco X2 for 6GB / 64GB memory configuration start at 18,999 rupees (~ $ 265). Still, it would be a great bargain to have a 120 Hz display and a powerful chipset. There are as yet no words regarding the pricing or availability of Poco X2 outside of the Indian market. However, Xiaomi is expected to own the Poco Read the full article

WhatsApp Dark Mode Arrives, Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite Launched in India, and More Tech News This Week
Tumblr media
The week past had its fair share of personal technology headlines, from WhatsApp finally gaining a dark mode (albeit in beta) to Samsung launching two of its ‘affordable' premium smartphones in the country – the Galaxy Note 10 Lite and Galaxy S10 Lite. The Oppo F15 – a mid-ranger from the Chinese smartphone company – went on sale in India this week, while Qualcomm used India as the setting for the launch of its new budget and mid-range smartphone processors. Xiaomi and HMD Global's Nokia brand also made headlines this week when the two companies cut prices of popular smartphones in their lineup, namely the Mi A3, Redmi K20 Pro, Redmi Go, Nokia 7.2, and Nokia 6.2. Read on for all the top tech news of the week past.WhatsApp dark mode finally availableFacebook-owned WhatsApp this week launched its ‘dark' theme, the much-awaited new feature. In a world where most apps now offer a dark mode, WhatsApp was one of the holdouts, despite being used by more than a billion people globally. Apart from being easier on the eyes in low-light environments, a dark mode would also be useful in extending battery life of your device if it features an OLED display panel. In a beta build for Android, the company has introduced the dark theme within settings. To use the feature, you will need to install the Android beta via the Google Play Beta testing programme. If you're unable to register for the programme, another method is sideloading the latest beta via APK Mirror. The feature was first spotted this week in v2.20.13, but dark mode can be observed in later beta builds as well – such as v2.20.16.We can expect WhatsApp dark mode to make its way to the stable Android app soon, apart from the iPhone app soon, and WhatsApp for Web. To use the feature in the previously mentioned Android beta builds, you'll need to visit Settings > Chats > Display > Theme. Here, you will find three options – System Default, Light, and Dark. The first, System Default, will switch between light and dark themes depending on what your current system-wide setting is on Android 10. The Light theme is the regular WhatsApp interface you've been seeing thus far. Dark mode will force a dark theme to the app regardless of the version of Android your device is running. At least in beta, it appears that WhatsApp has chosen to stick with a dark green colour for its dark mode.Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite, Galaxy S10 Lite launched in IndiaAs we'd mentioned, Samsung this week launched two of its recently unveiled affordable flagship smartphones in the country. The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite and Galaxy S10 Lite were launched together globally earlier this month, and the smartphones we launched in India on two separate occasions this week.
