Interesting take!

I would also accept: Xavier, Demanitus' other (lesser) partner who was not transformed into a monkey, but was there for the whole thing. Perhaps a follower of Demanitus who didn't betray him, but went into hiding after everything went down, and he was left alone in the world without his mentor, and without the enemies they'd been fighting.

laurance's ref sheet!! it only took me a month and two different versions to finish lol

but yeah. backstory, lore, closeups, etc under the cut :3

laurance is the adopted son of hayden zvahl, a blacksmith, and joh zvahl, a jeweller, and grew up in meteli alongside his adoptive sister cadenza. cad's the reason why his hair is bright red when aph meets him en route to scaleswind - he's been dyeing it this colour since he was young so that he and cadenza could match and look more like siblings. as such, much of his colour scheme is based around soft reds and oranges, with some golds thrown in. additionally, his earrings (although u can't really see them here) were made by joh, alongside most of his other jewellery, before joh passed away a couple of years prior to aph showing up outside of phoenix drop. his armour is also a lot lighter than garroth and katelyn's due to his fighting style prioritising speed and mobility over strength and endurance - that, and the fact that he works around water a lot and can't let metal weigh him down too much.

after ungrth drags him out of the nether, laurance's colour scheme undergoes a major change - instead of being based around reds and golds, it shifts to be focused around greens and browns. laurance also dyes his hair back to its natural colour (brown), and due to the trauma of being forced through the realm barrier (and having his eyes cut out multiple times by gene), his eyes fade to a pale, milky green. there are other physical changes that come with being turned as well - his nails turn into talons, his ears become pointed, and, due to his now-undead nature, his heart stops beating. he also loses the need to breathe, although he keeps doing so to keep up the facade of being human (he really doesn't want to acknowledge the fact that he's undead now). however, around the start of season three (right before the main cast makes the trip to tu'la), he decides to dye his hair red again and return to the reds and golds that he loves (something something "reclaiming his fire" something something). it also doesn't help that his hair has started growing in a bright copper ever since they returned from o'khasis and xavier's relic had gone missing. surely these events can't be connected

not too many comments about laurance's out-of-armour/casual/tu'la arc outfit. his eyesight's dogshit now (due to the aforementioned events surrounding his turning n escape from the nether) so he technically needs glasses, but he never wears them unless someone (usually garroth) tells him to.

with laurance's shadow knight form, i rlly wanted to showcase how unnatural it is to him. it's big, and bulky, and covered in spikes n shit - it's entirely antithetical to laurance and his fighting style. personally, i think that a shadow knight's armour adapts to their fighting style and personality over time, but because laurance like. never uses this form it doesn't get the chance to adapt to him, although i added in a doodle of what his form might've evolved to look like had he used it more often.

uhh shadow knight lore stuff. shad is a psychopomp - at least, the fragment of his soul/essence/whatever that didn't get totally fucked up by the void is. however, the shadow lord (aka the fragment of shads soul/essence/whatever that did) tends to snatch souls that either a) die in the nether (like laurance n sasha) or b) are deemed to be useful to his cause of destroying irene (like gene and vylad) to make into shadow knights. different things play into how powerful a shadow knight is - gene, being part-mer'ai, being a descendant of kul'zak, and having memory manipulation magicks, is pretty powerful already, but when he's made into a death knell (aka a general in the shadow lord's army) his power can pretty much rival a relic wielder. laurance mayyyybe could've become a death knell if he wanted to, but unfortunately he has a stupid strong sense of justice so uh. yeah.

all shadow knights do get a boon from the shadow lord - it usually reflects their personality, their soul, or their past, and it always centres around blood, fire, or shadows (or a mix of some or all of these - for example, zenix's boon is that his blood essentially acts like napalm). laurance's reflects his childhood in meteli, a town built in a saltmarsh/estuary - his blood is stupid acidic (like acidic enough to melt through flesh, bone, and metal if he's not careful). however, for a long time, he assumes that his boon is being able to alter the temperature of metal (as sasha has told him that all shadow knight's blood is poisonous on some level - he just doesn't know that his blood is particularly poisonous) until vylad tells him that it probably isn't metal related.

uhh more lore stuff - this time regarding xavier, his relic, and plot stuff.

zane absorbs xavier's relic (sort of unwillingly?? like he wants power, and he wants to try and push back against his father's influence, but if he's being honest he would've preferred to take on esmund's relic (which is missing. weird.) but beggars can't be choosers so eh it's whatever), but because not everyone can wield a relic and not every relic can be wielded by every relic-wielder it sort of starts to eat away at his soul and fuck him up. this leads to the climactic battle of s1 in irene's cathedral dimension, which ends when garroth (who gets possessed by esmund's relic) kills zane by ripping xavier's relic out of him. when they get back to the overworld and realise what exactly that weird fuckoff hunk of metal that garroth yanked out of zane's chest is, they decide to give it to garroth for safe keeping - only for the relic to go missing when the main cast breaks into an occupied o'khasis to rescue zianna, although they don't realise it until they return home to phoenix drop. it's around this time that laurance travels to new meteli to catch up with cadenza and get her to dye his hair orange again, only for cadenza to discover that his hair is growing in a bright copper. they... sort of brush this off as a weird shadow knight biology thing until laurance gets into a fistfight with gene and transforms for the first time. it's a bit of a mess but hey we got there in the end.

but yeah i decided to tweak his design a lil bit from my lineup of the second war of the magi's divine warriors because i wasn't suuper happy w how his chestplate turned out n i wanted to tutu w it a bit.

anyway. laurance's ref sheet is fucking finally done. the next ref sheet will probs be either katelyns or an updated ref sheet for garroth since ive tinkered w his protector form a Lot and i probs need to add in a cold weather outfit (laurance doesnt need one bc shadow knights r weird n basically space heaters anyway) and his juror form.

Day 11. AU 

Stardew Valley AU

This one has been on my mind for ages and while my life is violently beating me down and I have no energy or time to write an actual fic, I wanted to share this one nevertheless.

There are endless possibilities how this could go, but these are the two I've had.

1. Charles as the farmer.

Kurt had taken the charge of Brian Xavier's company when he had died, turning it into a souless corporation, where Charles now works, but has no real power over. He is sick of Kurt's treatment of him and all the pretencious people who try to get close to him just to gain something. The frustration of the situation and the backstab world of business world makes him seek for an out. He finds  out that there is a farm that his grandfather had left for Brian and which had then been passed to him. So, he decides to leave the company and head towards Stardew Valley (Genosha Valley? Maybe not X'D)

The farm is in shambles, but Charles is not too defeated and starts to fix everything up slowly but surely. He meets the people who live in the town and most of them are happy to welcome him to the Valley and are encouraging of his efforts to start his farm. But when Charles meets Erik, the local blacksmith, when he brings most of his tools for a fixing, the other man is not too impressed. He fixes the tools, it's his job after all, but doesn't think that Charles, a rich city boy, will last even to the end of the year.

Well, Charles is ready to prove Erik wrong and works twice as hard as he had before. The beginning is rough, he knows next to nothing about agriculture, but he is if nothing else but stubborn and slowly learns and succeeds to turn the farm back to it's former glory. And maybe he also develops feelings towards Erik along the way. And the blacksmith also learns that there was more to Charles than he thought in the beginning.

2. Erik as the farmer

Erik is working for Shaw with minimum wage and it's slowly sucking his life out of him. He hates everything about his work, his coworkers, his boss and his current life. After one late night at work he finds a letter from his mother who passed away years ago. It tells him about a farm that belonged to her grandparents and his mother had planned to move there too, but her health made it impossible. But maybe Erik could find a nice life there. Erik hadn't payed too much attention to the farm mentioned in his mother's will, but now... It sounds just what he needs. So with a huge middlefinger, he leaves Shaw's company and heads to the farm.

It's in a bad condition, but Erik is ready to work hard for it and this time, the work feels actually meaningfull and at the end of the day he doesn't feel like he is slowly suffocating. The townspeople are pleasant too, if a bit nosy. Especially Charles, the teacher of the town, who lives in a trailer with his step brother. But as Eriks first crops grow, so do his feelings for the other man as they spend more and more time together. And suddenly Erik notices how he has become a part of the community.

Nevertheless who is the farmer, the end conflict would be:

The valley life is good and Charles/Erik has found a community there, where people care about each other and are like a one big family. Everything is fine, until Kurt's/Shaw's company arrives to the valley and threathens to change everything for the worse (capitalism, you know). Charles/Erik has to face the life they had left behind to save their newfound family. But this time, they don't have to do it alone.

And there is so much ability to customise this AU!

- Which x-men character is which stardew valley character (Even Erik and Charles don't have to be the ones I chose here. Erik could also be a struggling writer living in a cabin on the beach or a shopkeeper who is having a rivarly with Kurt's megamart. Charles in turn could also be a researcher, living with his sister's family near the mountains or a doctor, who has to patch Erik back together after a monster attack in the mines.)

- If you want a kid fic, you can make either Erik or Charles or both single fathers and have all or some of their kids there too.

- Could be an AU with or without powers. I usually prefer powered AUs myself so that's what I was thinking while planning this. But not a necessity.

- Would most likely end up as quite a fluffy fic, but there is also room for hurt/comfort for example.

BENSON ROCHE:

STATUS: UNAWARE -- Benson still committed his crimes as he did in the movie he's from, but he managed to flee. Thanks to the low status of those that he killed, he isn't as worried as being caught by government as he is in the modern universe.

His current occupation is Blacksmith. Benson trained for this at a young age, as an apprentice, but a serious event in his past made him switch to working in a tavern for a bit. After he committed his infamous crimes and fled town, Benson decided to get back into the blacksmith trade.

Connections include: someone who recognizes him from his violent past, someone who is a customer and gets their weapons or armor repaired, someone who also visits taverns often (Benson will often be there after a long shift: as much as he hates the place, there's not really any other place to get mead and other beverages).

NATHAN YOUNG:

STATUS: UNAWARE -- While he understands the events that happened to him within his own show's canon, he understands it within the fantasy medieval context.

His current occupation is Jester/Harlot/Conman -- He does what it takes to survive, but sometimes a witty little performance isn't enough to secure some gold. Nathan does what he can to make sure he has a meal every night.

His immortal status and his ability to talk to and communicate with the dead is something he keeps very much under wraps -- While he absolutely can survive being burned alive, he doesn't want to experience the whole stigma one gets after being labeled a witch!

Connections include: fellow jesters / harlots, customers, other people with supernatural powers.

NICK CLARK:

STATUS: AWARE -- The whiplash this man is experiencing. He went from the literal apocalypse, to modern day life, to this. Ironically, Nick rolls with the punches so he doesn't really care, and in fact, is having a lot of fun! After seeing the dead rise, nothing really shocks him anymore.

His current occupation is an amalgamation of things: Gravedigger, pick pocket, drug dealer. Nick learned some information about a part of a human brain that can create an excellent high, and right now he's abusing his job as a gravedigger to harvest these parts.

Connections include: fellow criminals, fellow grave diggers, anyone who is also aware and or has supernatural connections.

SEAN CASSIDY:

STATUS: AWARE -- Sean is used to life changing rapidly, so at this point, why not! But the loss of Xavier's mansion has very much affected his life. Keeping his powers a secret, he has to push aside the trauma and the urge to try and fix the situation in favor of survival.

His current occupation is Bard/pickpocket: when the taverns he performs at don't let him spend the night, or when he doesn't earn enough to buy a night, Sean is sleeping on the streets. Pick pocketing is a last resort, but sometimes if he's lucky he can charm people with his voice into just giving him money.

Connections include: tavern owners, fellow musicians, fellow thieves, potential "victims", people who are also aware or have some supernatural ability.

*moves the chairs and tables to arrange a makeshift stage, grabs whatever food can be used as props, and begins reading Chaotic Heroic to the best of their ability*

Considering that simple tasks were slightly disorienting, one of you trying to perform would be something else entirely. And yet, you tried, and did it, and perhaps in some ways this would enhance the quality of the experience.

As stated by one of you, Act 1 wasn't much of a page-turner, and probably wouldn't be that better even if performed competently.

Act 2 was... well, whether it was better or worse seemed like a matter of opinion.

For the sake of recapping LUCIUS' personal work of art, Act 1 was centered around 'Augustina'- a blonde wealthy-and-beautiful-yet-troubled-and-wistful young noblewoman who, despite wanting to be an artist, was trapped into the life of strict nobility and politics. After a drastic move on her part, she finds herself bandaged and tended to on the riverbank by an average-yet-attractive-and-humble-yet-talented peasant named 'Xavier'. They got together and… that was about it. A very short act to a play, frankly.

Regardless, Xavier and Augustina begin traveling together, and reach a large city, where a special event is taking place.

The 'Tourney for the Divine Chalice', a special event to win a mystical artifact that could grant anyone's dreams. Augustina, now realizing that this is her grand chance to fulfill her dream of becoming an artist, convinces Xavier to join her-- despite neither of them knowing much about fighting.

Interested, yet lacking in the proper tools, Xavier and Augustina find a foul-tempered yet kind-hearted blacksmith and his companion, who deny helping the duo at first before being persuaded (as in Augustina asks really nicely once and is so beautiful that it works).

'BLACKSMITH': 'Me and my partner will assist you in your endeavors, if you promise not to forget us when you are victorious. And also because of Lady Augustina's supreme beauty.'

Sure.

So, the Blacksmith makes Augustina a beautiful sword made from metal beyond the stars and armor that is also somehow functionally similar to a gown, and they set off.

As they reach the town in which the tourney resides, you found yourself hit rapid-fire with several characters.

Such as a rich foreign king and his foul-mouthed money-grubbing vassal that kept harassing poor Xavier, saying things like--

'RICH KING': "Hmph, despite being of poor stock, you both have an amusing way about you. Perhaps crushing you will bring me the entertainment I desire, as the Chalice is mine by right."

'CAPITALIST BITCH': "But we're going to help you anyways! Not because we like you or anything! God! It's just common courtesy here, in the Lunar Lands in which we all live together! Of course, you should know this because you're also from here! What are you, stupid or something! Gosh!"

Mhm.

Adding to the rapid-fire introductions, there was also a girl from a far-off organization protected by a massive metal warrior that kept saying cryptic things, and a young prince protected by a stalwart knight that really worried Xavier, and a pair of cold-blooded assassins, and a knight and his protege with a penchant for poisons, and an arrogant twerp surrounded by a heathen woman who kept her overcoat constantly unbuttoned, which Augustina was fine with, sure, but not when it took attention away from her and--

--In some ways, it felt like the frantic writing of someone trying to recall what happened in a dream. Regardless, as these warriors were introduced, the tourney began…

And Act 2 was over. Just like that.

As the act concludes, you realize that there are literally no lions present in this section of the play. You also realize that despite being 'Act 2', this could have been easily combined with 'Act 1', which added the further question of… just how long was this play?

I could just imagine Xavier gathering Lance Casandra and Rapunzel and the twins to tell Old Scary Corana Folktales around a campfire covered with leaves.

"The twins"? What twins? Do you mean popular headcanon New Dream kids twins?

But anyway, yeah! Also, Eugene loves a good scary story. In fact, he likes them a lot more than Lance does. Lance doesn't like being scared, after all. In fact, I don't headcanon Rapunzel as enjoying listening to scary stories. After all, Gothel used to deliberately scare her all the time. I don't think it's something she'd enjoy, even years later. Kiera and Catalina are all in, though.

Let's just say that Xavier would host scary stories around the fire and whoever wanted to sit in and participate are welcome to.

• {{ Darcy and Mine’s Story }} •

• {{ The Queen came to my workshop during mid May three years ago, looking for a new Blacksmith since the one she had before had just retired.

Darcy accompanied her, trailing behind her, completely silent. He had a politely interested expression for the most part of the trip.

Then he saw me. His eyes brightened in curiosity, and he didn’t keep his eyes off of me for the rest of the time.

I continued to show the Queen my workshop and handiwork, answering her questions. I felt his eyes on me, the back of my neck prickling.

I glanced at him only once, curious as well. He was tall; five, maybe six, inches taller than me. He had bright blue eyes, neatly fluffy blond hair, and smooth, pale skin. His face was an oval shape, his jawline smooth, a soft curve to his cheeks. He was very beautiful, and I had a hard tearing my eyes away from him.

When he and the Queen left, I went over the memory of him again and again while I made a test sword for the Queen.

Our first meeting was at midnight on a Wednesday.

I had gone for a ride on Anechoic, and the clouds were thick around his wings.

I bumped into Darcy on his dragon, an IceWing named Gregale, and we stopped our flight, both us and our dragons staring, transfixed, at one another.

We ended up flying the rest of the night till morning together, having races, calling things back at each other.

At sunrise, Gregale and Anechoic’s wings line up, and Darcy gets up from the saddle and steps onto Anechoic. He crouches on Anechoic’s shoulder right in front of me. We transverse a few more words before he remounts Gregale and flies back to the Palace.

Before he leaves, he gives me a swift kiss on the back of my hand.

We meet up every night after that. }} •

Weeby’s Random Thoughts #7 (The Barbie Series)

I absolutely adore the old Barbie movies, and I started thinking about the plots with different Miraculous characters! Two of my absolute favorites had good fits, so here they are!

Princess & the Pauper:

In a kingdom far away, an amazing thing happened on a cold Winter’s day. Two identical baby girls were born, Princess Marinette (Annalise) and Socqueline (Erika), a common pauper. Marinette grew up learning her royal duties, while Socqueline worked as a seamstress for the cruel Madam Audrey Bourgeois (Madam Carp). With their very different lives, they never met…until one fateful day. Marinette had been betrothed to Jessica (King Dominick), the wealthy young queen of a nearby kingdom, in the hopes of saving theirs from bankruptcy. However, the one she truly wishes to marry is her royal tutor and best friend, Adrien (Julian). Marinette and Socqueline meet while Marinette is exploring the village with Adrien and quickly become friends. However, Queen Sabine’s (Queen Genevieve) corrupt royal advisor, Bob Roth (Preminger) hatches a plan to abduct the princess to take over the kingdom. Adrien suspects Roth is up to something, so he enlists Socqueline to pretend to be the princess until he can find the real Marinette. However, things get complicated when Queen Jess comes to meet her bride, and she and Socqueline begin developing feelings for one another, all while Marinette is trying to escape and save her kingdom…

Magic of Pegasus:

In another far away kingdom, Princess Zoe (Annika) lives with her controlling parents, her domineering mother and her henpecked father, who forbid her from leaving the castle, without telling her why. On the night of her sixteenth birthday, Zoe sneaks out to go skating…only for the party to be crashed by Xavier (Wenlock), a powerful and evil sorcerer who demands the princess marry him. When Zoe refuses, he petrifies her subjects and threatens to leave them this way permanently unless she agrees to marry him. Suddenly, a Pegasus swoops down from the sky and carries Zoe away to safety. She learns that the flying horse can talk and that her name is Chloe (Brietta). She takes Zoe to the palace of the Cloud Queen, Dahlia. (Rayla) It’s here that Zoe learns that Chloe is actually her sister, and was cursed by Xavier to become a Pegasus because she also refused to marry him, years before Zoe was born. Dahlia tells Zoe that to defeat Xavier, she must build a Wand of Light, and Zoe is determined to do so, both to save her people and break the spell on her sister. On their quest, they meet a surly young blacksmith named Cosette (Aidan), who agrees to help them, with them and Zoe slowly falling in love in the process as the timer to save the kingdom runs out.
