FFXIVWrite2024 Prompt 5: Stamp

XVI DLC, MOTR and Endwalker spoilers, also XVI -> XIV crossover. Deryk go helps his problem child cleric. FT's @inkblood-mistrieu"s Mingxia and a brief mention of @starswornoaths's Serella.

Deryk’s head shot up at the sound of chirping, but not the chirping of the birds flying through Mor Dhona, but more akin to-

“Dad!! Please help! There are people dying and I don’t know what to do!!”

He sighed. His cleric, or as the others called her, his little problem child.

He slipped away from everyone and sprinted towards the Omphalos, thankfully arriving with no trouble. Though what beheld him was shocking to say the least.

His cleric, Mingxia, along with what appeared to be three men at death’s door, and many more either injured or severely aethersick.

He sighed and knelt by Mingxia, there was no helping it right now, and he hoped she wasn’t entirely lucid to really remember this anyway.

Forgive me my friends...

“I feel like I’m gonna be sick Dad...” She grumbled. “Ate something really evil and bad...”

“It’s alright, I’ll do what I can.” He soothed as he hugged her and kissed her forehead. “Close your eyes Mingxia.”

When she did so, he pulled some yew leaves from his pouch. He placed three upon the three men who were dying before placing the remainder in his young cleric’s palm before whispering something over them. He heard a crack and saw that the three men who were at death’s door were nearly petrified, but his efforts made the stone crack, revealing healing skin underneath. It wasn't much, they would still need the aid of a healer, but it was a start.

A harsh wail caught his attention and he quickly saw the source of the noise.

A baby, laying near the group and wrapped in a beautifully woven swaddling blanket. He wasn’t the best with children, and at least one of his friends was far better suited to soothing the babe.

Maria, Nymeia, I beg your aid.

A woman appeared before him and sighed.

“You've gotten yourself in a right mess with this Oschon.” Nymeia sighed, her soft orange eyes teasing him. “Let me see them.”

Deryk sighed as she moved closer, gently scooping up the tiny child and began humming a lullaby, the child's cries stopping almost immediately.

“Poor thing...” Nymeia started with a frown. “His start was a cruel one, and the family that once trapped him is long dead as he was locked in time. I’ll see if I can talk to Althyk and see if his aether has been altered from being locked in time. The magic within his soul is ready to run wild, but it recognizes that he’s not in that horrible place anymore...”

Deryk sighed in relief. “Thank you Nymeia. It means the world that you came to help.”

“It's no trouble, Oschon. But your cleric will be. You will have to reveal yourself to them soon.” Nymeia warned.

“I know...and yet I still wish we could-”

A thunderclap and Deryk’s head shot up.

“Damnit! I told the Valisthean to stay in Mor Dhona!” He grumbled. He looked to Nymeia but she had already vanished with the child, so he looked to his cleric and sighed before pressing a kiss to the top of her head. “Stay alive for me Mingxia, at least until help arrives.”

With that he bolted from the Omphalos, reappearing to see Cidolfus Telamon throwing a lightning bolt at one of the mobs near the gate of Mor Dhona.

“Damnit Telamon, I told you to stay in Mor Dhona!!” He shouted in annoyance.

“And I told you that I'm not waiting around if some of my people made it back here. I'm going to do what I can to help.” Cid replied with a stubborn glint in his green eyes.

Deryk rubbed at his temple. “And Serella, G’raha Tia and I all told you the best way to do that is to wait in the Rising Stones! You still haven’t fully recovered and the aether is stronger than what you are used to.”

“Your healers have already cleared me to wander-” Cid started but a hand tugging his sleeve cut him off.

“Unca Telamon!” Argasar, one of Mingxia’s and her polycule’s kids, called. “Mama said no fighting!”

Cid blinked but sighed as he knelt to ruffle Argasar's black hair, being mindful of his horns. "I have no interest in fighting kiddo, promise. But your mama's brought people I know, and I have to help them."

"But you’re still hurt too Unca. Pweeze stay? Mama would be sad if you got hurt more on her part." Argasar pleaded, his brown and pink eyes wide as Deryk snickered.

Argasar heard that and frowned. “Don't laugh Grandpa. Mama would be mad at you for being mean to Unca...”

Deryk blinked as Cid laughed and scooped a giggling Argasar up. “Alright alright I'll stay. If nothing else than to make sure you little rascals don't cause any trouble. How did you slip away from your grandmother anyway?”

Argasar giggled more as he walked away, and Deryk caught a glimpse of an aetheric stamp on Cid’s lower back.

Deryk put his head in his hands. How did he miss that??

Clive's Outfit in FF14!

Since we had the PAX East Panel for FF16 today, and we know it's coming in "early April" (FF16 Producer Naoki Yoshida didn't want to say more than that, as tomorrow there is a panel with FF14 Producer/Director Yoshi-P, who might get mad if Yoshida revealed more than he was supposed to and no, he is never getting tired of this bit) I hopped into Crime to check out Clive's outfit on various characters.

FF14-only players will likely raise brows at the set's name, "Metian", because "Metia" is used as a name for something in FF16's world, with a lot of significance to Clive and Jill from the very start. So this set's name (despite the clothes' origin in FF16's story) ties back to his lady.

I started off with Dalamud dye cuz that's what Aeryn happens to have on her jacket, hands, and feet at the moment:

Unfortunately, hyuran men at present do not get quite the bulky chests Clive and his comrades sport in Valisthea. Maybe the update will make them look more filled out.

Meanwhile, if C'oretta doesn't look she won't have to see it's not pink.

This also really pulls in Punchy's bust; she's maxed on the slider, while Aeryn and Dark are mid-ranged, and Iyna minimal. But in this, they're all looking pretty similar. And similar to the guys, actually...

Finally added color for Iyna; Celeste, and the pants are Deepwood. She doesn't want to be here today. Also yes I put Thancred in this outfit, what of it?

(Now if only they also gave us Jill's amazing outfit, then I could really cosplay...Uh, nevermind. Moving on!)

I dunno if it's the angle I used that makes the legs look funny on Iron Summer (more on the legs/feet in a moment). But Roe men do, in fact, have the chests to make this outfit work like a Valisthean gentleman. And I shamelessly used @driftward's Zoissette as an elezen example.

Now, Clive is obviously wearing long boots, right? Well...

Have to click the legs pic, but it's plated pants and ankle shoe things (in Celeste Green here). Blergh.

Extra Details!

Clive famously fights with giant swords, but also carries a short blade for a backup weapon; very historical of these nerds. The other side of the belt shows his pouches. The back cloak is missing any kind of device or hold for his giant swords, which is very video game of these nerds.

The belts are part of the vest.

Noctis vs Clive

Having a convo with @eremiss the other day, about the tonal differences and speed of the FF15 event versus that of the FF16 crossover. And I do think that is a reflection of their respective games.

I haven't played (or watched) 15, but from what I know, a big point of it's start was "the boys' trip." Noctis spends time with his friends/trusted retainers, having adventures and sidequests and minigames, going fishing and taking pictures, all before fate catches up and breaks all of them.

Clive's story, meanwhile, is very focused on the central quest. He's a man who has everything and everyone stripped away, and only over time does he regain some of what was lost, and new friends besides. While there are party members who come and go, Clive's the only controllable character, with only 2 very brief switches to another character. There are no minigames in 16; there's some sidequests that help complete a collection of mementos, and Hunts that feed your blacksmith's crafting, some fight challenges, and...that's it. There's not a lot of whimsy in Valisthea as it teeters on the brink of Armageddon thanks to a capricious god.

The crossover events really reflect these differences; Noctis, while eager to get home, and willing to do his duty to face Garuda, is mostly relaxed and takes time to hang out with the WoL, talking about his friends. He's confused, but willing to explore and learn.

Clive, meanwhile, is taken from a very specific, single point in his story, as he's facing a terrible and difficult moment, his mind refusing to accept it. He's introduced to Eorzea as an amnesiac, not only to avoid spoilers, but focus on reaching this key moment where he realizes who he really is. There's no slowing down or stopping for Clive (even in his game, a period of downtime results in a 5 year time skip to get right back to active story).

These events really reflect the characters and tone of their games, the styles in which they're told. FF16 is a very lean, MSQ-focused tale, and disaster begins Clive's journey toward fate. FF15 is a bit more traditional, starting Noctis's path a bit more innocuously with danger a background rumble to start, giving him and the world a little time to breathe, before ramping things to their climax.
