レストア始めてから丸2年のこの子。
今年の夏こそはガッツリ乗りたいなって思っても、生憎の雨だし、明日からはキャンプだし。
台風はギリ避けれた感じ?

Bringing a 1978/79 Kawasaki KL250 back to life
Bringing a 1978/79 Kawasaki KL250 back to life
Kawasaki introduced the KL250A in 1978 and repeated the same KL250B in 1979. Kawasaki was late to the quarter-liter, dual-purpose model market as Honda introduced the XL250 in 1972. After Honda saw their sales number explode, they quickly invested in major improvements. Yamaha, and Suzuki did the same with their DTs and SPs. Kawasaki As and Bs were competitive when new, but were soon eclipsed by Honda. After 1980, all four brands raced to dominate the market with improved models.
The KL250 was Kawasaki’s first serious on/off road play bike. The company had an acknowledged reputation for quality. Qualified mechanics will confirm this. If a Kawasaki product failed in some regard, it was usually due to poor owner maintenance. It’s simple air-cooled SOHC 2 valve engine is easy to work on. Long travel suspension (for the time) is comfortable with 13” shocks. 21hp with 14hp of torque pulls from the low end.
The exhaust system can justifiably called quiet. The KL is very fuel-efficient. Combine its 2.6 gallon tank with a fuel rate of 78 mpg gives you a range of 202 miles from a full tank. If aesthetics influence you, one has to give the KL a nod-overall it’s beautifully designed. Prices for used KLs run from “here take it!” to around $2500 for one in near new condition. Most fall in the $500 range. Warning-pass on a used KL with bad electrics and doesn’t run. If the first condition exists add $250 to the selling price. If the engine needs a rebuild add $500 to the selling price.
Production numbers for the early Kawasaki’s A and B models were low which explains why most of today’s aftermarket companies offer very few essential replacement parts other than spark plugs, filters and wear items. The Kawasaki factory has died up as a source for part resellers.
The one single part most KL250 builders need is the carburetor boot that mounts the carb to the engine. After 44 years, these rubber collars crack and can introduce air directly into the engine. This leans the fuel mix and can burn the engine down. Phil Little is the only source in the western world with new ones.
Phil Little’s KawasakiKLsOnly.com is a company that is sourcing and manufacturing parts for these 44 year old A and B models. Little’s website offers quality items which can help get your KL back in running condition. Go to his website and discover if his site has the parts you need. A note, the company does not source parts from China. When you contact the company, you will always talk to the owner.
 Some of the un-obtainable or rare parts he offers are;
[1] Side covers
[2 ] Carburetor boots to engine
[ 3] Front brake cables which no one has. 54005-1005
[ 4] Rear fenders
Some common parts include;
[1 ] Oil Filters
[ 2] Exhaust Gasket
[3 ] Air filters (at the lowest price anywhere)
[4 ] Shift and control levers
Parts in development
[ 1] Wiring harnesses
Conclusion
It can be difficult to part with old KLs, but there are ways to revive them and make them look as good as new. Find KL250 1978-79 Gear Shift Change Lever, KL250 1978-79 Front Brake Cable 54005-1005, KL250 1978-79 Side Covers, and other spare parts and accessories. I need to have a talk with Stephanie Meyer
So I'm reading the Twilight Official Illustrated Guide and I got to the Cullen Cars section.
There are some revelations about Rosalie's car choices that I'll get to in a different post (my head is exploding with the info here I can't contain myself)
BUT FIRST!
We need to talk about Bella's motorcycle.
According Bella's character profile in Twilight: The Official Illustrated Guide, Bella's Honda is a "1960's Honda motorcycle.
According to the profile on the bike itself in the "Cullen Cars" section, it's a Honda XL250.
Now, I don't know about you guys, but I've done some research on the Honda XL250 - just a cursory google search really - and I found out two things
That the Honda XL250 is NOT a 1960's motorcycle - it was only introduced in 1972.
that NONE of the bikes the search results turned up looked like the bike pictured on Meyer's website or illustrated in the Guide.
Alright, so 1972 - that's pretty close to the 60', Meyer has made similar time-line related mistakes. ~shrug~ whatever. Point 2 however is a bit more of an issue.
This is the bike as pictured in the guide...
Tumblr media
... which is basically the same as the bike pictured on Meyer's website since New Moon came out, except the gas tank in the illustration is painted red instead of white.
Tumblr media
What I realized after about an hour or so of image searching is that this UNEQUIVOCALLY is NOT a Honda XL250, but a Honda CL70 Scrambler, which WAS introduced in 1969.
How did I figure that one out? Well, from my cursory google image search.
See, this is what a Honda XL250 looks like.
Tumblr media
Now i know to a lot of people, this probably doesn't look that different from the bikes pictured above, but it is - I promise - and the reason I figured this out was, I noticed one pretty glaring difference.
Tumblr media
The exhaust pipe isn't even on the same side. The example of the XL250 (pictured left) is a 1972 model, the oldest available. it's exhaust pipe is on the LEFT side of the bike and also looks totally different from that on the CL70 (above, right).
Tumblr media
This ^ is the exhaust on the XL250.
While we're here, we might as well have a little go on about Alice's Porsche as depicted in the Guide as well because that's ALSO wrong, though this time it's on the Illustrator and not Stephanie, I think.
One of the most irritating things to me about all of the Cullen Car information is that Meyer NEVER INCLUDES MODEL YEARS, and that's annoying, because car makers tweak things from year to year and some of the tweaks can be pretty major, from styling to performance.
This is the Porsche as pictured in the guide and, I think I'm safe in saying, the exact picture used as reference?
Tumblr media
This is the Porsche pictured on Meyer's Website since New Moon came out.
Tumblr media
Now I don't think you have to be particularly eagle-eyed to notice the difference between the side-scoop air intakes (just above the rear wheel arch) and THOSE HEADLIGHTS between these cars?
Alice's Porsche was bought new by Edward in 2006 and so should look exactly like the 2006 model pictured on Meyer's website, NOT the 2003(-05?) model pictured in the Guide.
