I'm not deep in the Horizon fandom so every time you post a thing about ship discourse it's like watching a very scary iceberg float by knowing there's shit below the water line. You guys are so strong for dealing with That Bullshit o7

you know, there was a time where it used to be pretty all right - like yeah, I and my friends got some shit for shipping niloy, even got stalked and harassed by one particularly unhinged individual, but it was nothing like it is now.

the overwhelming biphobia of the past year or so since BS came out especially has killed my desire to want to contribute anything more to this fandom publicly, so i'm not sure how strong i really am lol, but thank you!!

As someone who had a... Lively discussion with someone on the dev post about how yes actually UMAs are an incredibly important part of the site and just because you don't engage with them doesn't make you right they just are the most willfully ignorant people imaginable. Like they're just borderline delusional about the actual impact of UMAs or people's concerns over mass pings. I just had to stop engaging with them because they were just speaking nonsense to me.

And they claimed to have used the site for 10 years and had NEVER heard of GASP. In 10 years they had never interacted with UMAs outside of fest stuff. In their minds it was just a thing people do on the side. It's not an economic insengive to thousands of players and probably the devs themselves. If they fuck up GASP there will be actual financial reprocussions for FR.

The game won't dissolve into a puff of smoke or anything but where do you think the gems are coming from that pay for the developers beyond the originals who do it for the love huh? Who's paying the code monkeys? People buying gems on UMAs and G1s. Just drove me absolutely insane. I almost blocked them I was so mad.

Your arguments with that person is part of why I typed up my post! I wasn't about to argue with them on site, and I get a lot more mileage out of posting to my own blog than in an on-site journal. It is truly deeply infuriating to see people say 'what about x amount of users who drive the economy of the site' and have the response from casual players be 'well actually you guys are a minority and therefore have zero impact on the site at all'.

I can count on one hand the number of skinmakers on site with my level of success, it's true, and it's also true that skinmakers in general make up maybe 0.1% of the player population. But it's just false that if all skin artists disappeared overnight the site wouldn't change at all.

Maybe most of the players on Flight Rising are casual, don't do much in terms of events, only participate in dragon sales, list everything on the Auction House, and get most of their currency from gathering/occasional fairgrounds. I can believe that someone can play for 10 years and never heard of GASP or UMAs - that's very feasible to me. But even if that's 99% of the players active ever, that is not 99% of where the actual activity and economy of the site lies. And it's just not something that a casual player can see, let alone comprehend the impact of if they only stick to their own corners of the game. Yes, it's dumb to say the economy will disappear if GASP disappears, but I haven't seen anybody actually say that. I've only seen people poking fun at how 'self important' the idea is that any of this could affect the community at all.

That's why I wanted to let people know - hey, yeah, what you guys are doing is important. Your concerns are important and you should keep giving staff feedback about what is important to you, and how these features could be implemented on site. They're listening to us! We just have to keep letting our voices be heard.

This is like if Christmas and taxes had a baby, yet I AM SO HAPPY. The only clog in the machine is the admins shutting off skin submissions on Tuesday...which may give me time to raise more funds. (I got the gems, I just don't want to be at zero lol)

My fave genres are fantasy, scifi, and romance. Sometimes with historical fiction and slice of life thrown in too.

I write both fanfic and original stuff.

I mostly post my own writing, writeblr games, and posts that give me crazy OC thoughts to be tagged. I don't reblog a lot of writing advice or self deprecating writer posts because honestly? Couldn't be me.

I did a HUGE writing challenge this year that was an attempt to write 365 1-shots. One a day. I failed but that's okay. I wrote like 200 of them and that's great and I'm proud of myself.

WIPs

The Zealous Servant - Dark high fantasy with lots of magic, necromancers, gods, and political drama. The main character Spayar needs to help his friend the crown prince kill the entire royal family before they turn around and do the same to him in order to claim the throne. Very queer, and is written for an adult audience not YA.

Entropy - My main fanfic WIP from the Destiny 2 fandom. Follows my OCs on their journey to bully the fuck out of Shin Malphur; resident Worst Guy Ever. Along the way he gets a hot girlfriend and I force him to have some actual friends because his lone wolf shtick is tired and stupid lol.

Lonos [working title] - This is a backburner one I need to really hash out a bit more. So I'll probably be posting a lot of rattlings about this one. Vaguely middle eastern appearance in setting about a traveling circus where all the players are also mercenaries for hire. Post a massive plague that wiped out almost all the magic users on the continent and the ones that are still around are viewed as cursed or unclean. (I swear I had this idea before the panny :,D) Gonna be a big long gay slow burn. For adult audiences.

Witchbane - Another backburner one I need to churn out some rattlings about. Steampunk set in a country called Ravthica where everyone thinks magic isn't real. When Spencer's parents go missing he's got to start believing in magic real quick when the hag that lives on his family's property tells him witches kidnapped his parents and the only way to get them back is to kill them. But witch hunting isn't exactly easy and he needs the help of some Wild things to find the witches that want his family and their witch hunting dogs all dead. For YA audiences.

This is extraordinarily petty and honestly ill get blocked more for it but. Since Xaz blocked me after I replied to their condescending ass post where they used a bunch of strawman/oversimplified arguments and said stuff like "yall are just fucking mean" and we just need more "whimsy" in our hearts, I'm gonna put my thoughts in a new post.

1. Minor complaints are not mean. If you are harassing staff or people who like Dusthides, you are the problem.

2. This game is much larger than it was even a few years ago. Ancients are great! They were a wonderful solution. Everyone loves more dragons! I personally am fine with Dusthides existing, they are cute!

3. Nobody likes it when their favorites are criticized. But!! People who take time to criticize a game are usually the ones that love that game the most and want it to succeed. We worry about the behind the scenes management and decisions because so many other pet games, especially independent ones, have failed miserably after they started crunching and rushing content. Nobody wants this to happen to FR.

4. Critique is a natural and healthy part of any space, it is OK if there are no more unanimous loved updates when there are thousands and thousands of players!!!

So in conclusion, you all have to admit this is a bit of a baffling decision. Of course people are critiquing it! We used to get 1 ancient a year, than 2, now 3. This is unsustainable and could be a bad decision when they already have trouble with keeping up. I made a post about how great it is that they hired a writer! Hopefully that means good things. It's OK to like new ancients, and it's okay to not like them. That's healthy!!! Xaz was in their right to block people who disagree. You can too! But please don't call them mean, or act like they are horrible, joyless people for having opinions. That's incredibly rude! Especially when you say "it's just a game" in your post!

So to wrap up, because it goes both ways:

I also loved the people who were like 'I can't believe you're all so ungrateful and vitriolic towards staff about the pinglist update! You all should be ashamed of yourself' even tho like 98% of the thread was everyone very interested in the pinglists and we very much want pinglists to succeed! I know I do. But OOF talk about feature incomplete that made everyone very nervous.

Not like staff has never launched something feature incomplete before and been like 'yeah this is how it is now, deal with it until we six it in 1-3 years :)' Because yeah that's nevvvver happened before /s

I've never met anybody pissed about the actual pinglist feature, tbh. I think most of us are ecstatic about the shiny new system. It's definitely made my life easier. It's just a shame that the mass ping sunsetting debate outshadowed out any feedback or excitement people might have felt about the skins revamp, because that's something I'm seriously looking forward to!
