I've been feeling pretty burned out this week. Sunday I watched an episode of Pokemon and it made me sad and then I didn't really recover from that before I went into my busiest school week. 20 classes vs my normal average of 14, and the train times are awkward so I have to get to the classroom really early and don't get home until almost 11pm Tuesday - Friday.

But the good news is that NaNo is finished, so now I no longer have to push myself to write 1700 words a day every day. I'm really glad I did it and I'll do NaNo again next year if possible, but I think pushing myself to get all the badges wasn't super beneficial to my mental health. I'm still very proud of what I achieved though!

So yeah, lots of minimal effort studying this week. Hopefully this coming week I'll be feeling a bit more up to proper studying.

Progress updates? Eh, none really this week. I remembered the meanings of a few words in quizzes on Renshuu a bit more easily that I did previously, but that's about it. It's still worth mentioning though because any progress, no matter how small, is still progress, right?

2024年に浮上した｢思ってたのと違う課題｣をまとめてみました。

Humane AI Pinは、リリース前にアピールされた多くのことをうまくこなせず、たとえできたとしてもバッテリー持ちと熱問題が心配。充電パックのリコール問題、売れ行き不振による企業身売りニュースと、リリース後��AI以外の部分がにぎやかだった印象です。

その後、12月にはAI Pinとはまったく別に、AIのためにゼロから作られたOSとして｢CosmOS｣をスタート。これは、車、スマートホームガジェット、テレビなどで使うAIという想定。しれーっとウェアラブルAIから、AIソフトウェアに方向転換したのかな？

何かを生み出したい人募集 何かを生み出したい人募集 Sponsored by 株式会社ビットキー Rabbit R1は、リリース前は自称パーソナライズなOSに期待がかかったものの、フタを開けてみればただのAndroidベースのシステム。多くのタスクをクラウド経由で行なうため、データの安全性が不安視される結果に。11月にはOSアプデで、｢カスタムAIエージェント｣がリリースされたものの、本来ならリリースから使えるべきだったものなうえ、現在もまだベータ版。

そのほか、ポケットサイズのAI翻訳機TimekettleのX1 Interpreter Hub。言語によって、その出来にかなりの差がありました。MetaのRayBanコラボAIグラスもありました。AI画像認識も毎回うまくいくわけではなく、やはりAIグラスと呼ぶには抵抗がある仕上がり。日常を記録するというAIカプセルPlaud NotePinは、使用ケースが限定すぎる印象です。

2024年1月に参加したインテルのイベントにて、上級VPであるSachin Katti氏に、｢AI PCと呼ばれる端末は、リリースと同時にAIを端末内で走らせることができるのか｣と質問したことがあります。その答えは｢YES、ただし対応しているアプリは少ない｣というものでした。これは、テック史上初めて、テクノロジーが既存のソフトウェアを上回ったと感じた瞬間でした。

2024年のAIアプリで最もメジャーだったのは、ChatGPTをはじめとする各種チャットbot。これは、端末内でのAI処理をマストとしませんでした。次にCopilot+が登場、これが転換期となり、NPC力の高いAI強化型チップを端末に搭載することで、端末内処理を加速させました。AMDのStrix Point、インテルのLunar Lakeと、その後、続々登場し、WindowsパソコンとしてCopilot+と呼ばれる条件をクリアしていきました。

MicrosoftのAIパソコンCopilot+には、Copilotという専用キーが搭載されています。が、実際のAI機能はどうかというと、これを目当てに端末を購入するメリットはないというのが本音。端末内でできることといえば、せいぜいAI画像生成かテレビ電話のキャプション補助くらい。デモでアピールされていたAI機能Recallは、発表後すぐからセキュリティとプライバシー保護をめぐって物議の的となりました。リリースを遅らせ11月にプレビュー版として公開されるも不安は残ったまま。

AI機能を｢Apple Intelligence｣として2024年に猛アピールしたのがApple（アップル）。春の開発者イベントで華々しく発表され、秋にiPhone 16シリーズが出るも、期待されているAI機能が来たのは2024年末ギリギリ。12月のmacOS Sequoia 15.2アップデートでは、画像生成のImage Playgroundや、SiriのChatGPT統合がMacにも登場。ただし、AI機能が使用できる端末は制限あり。

そのほか、AIをローカル処理できる小型マシンとして、Nvidiaが4万円程度の｢Orin Nano｣を発表。これは期待高い！

AIの未来、AIエージェント AIの未来があるというAIエージェントは、簡単にいうと大きなタスクをこなすために自身で考えて行動できるAIモデルのこと。つまり、ユーザーのリクエストに1つ1つ答えて作業完了に向かうのではなく、作業完了のためそれに必要な細々したことをAIが複合的に考えて動��わけです。そして、このAIエージェントこそ現代のAI最大のチャレンジ。2024年はバズワー��と言っても過言ではないほど、あちこちで発言されたものの、実用化はまだまだ先の話。

例えば、AIのClaudeを有するAnthropicが10月に公開したAIエージェントのデモ（Claude 3.5 Sonnet使用）では、AIがChromeにアクセスし、Google（グーグル）検索にワードを入力し、ユーザーのカレンダーにスケジュールを書き込む一連の流れを披露しました。が、AIエージェントの難しさは、タスク完了までの道のりが長いため、どこか1つつまづいてしまえば取り返しがつかないこと。旅行プランを作るのに、もしスケジュールに書き込んだフライト番号が間違っていれば、そのほかが完璧でもユーザーの旅行は完全アウトなわけで…。

GoogleのGemini 2.0やOpenAIのGPT-o1といったAIモデルは、ナンバリングとともに進化していきます。ベンチマークの数字は明らかに上がっていくものの、エンドユーザーである我々消費者がその違いを実感できるかはまた別の話。

AIエージェントはAIに任せるタスクが大きくなり複合的な判断が必要になることから、ユーザーの私生活にも密に触れることになるでしょう。そこで出てくるのがセキュリティとプライバシーの問題。端末内処理だけでなく、クラウド処理も必要になります。

Appleは、ユーザーのデータをプライベートクラウドコンピューティングシステム内にとどめ、セキュイリティ対策を行なうと宣言。OpenAIは、ユーザーのChatGPT履歴に直接アクセスできるものの、アクセス権を適切な関係者のみに限定していると説明。Microsoftは、現状ビジネスプラン（365）優先で、インハウス型AIエージェントの提供を約束しています。一方、Googleは、諸所明確にはしておらず。

今年は、AIエージェントの成長とともに企業のユーザーデータの取り扱い姿勢にも、より厳しい目が向けられていくことになります。

Feeling hella burnt out this week. Relationship things have been keeping me up at night and my brain's still racing from NaNo. And I've been ill as well, having some really awful stomach pains (which, now that I think about it, may well be as much attributable to stress as they are to my diet).

Anyway, I won't go into details here; that's not what this blog is for.

It does seem like I've not done a lot, and I haven't varied my studying very much this week. But I've done something every day! Reading in Norwegian is so much slower than reading in English lol. Feel like I'd have finished this book already if I were reading it in English. I can see why people say it's better to start with book 3 of Nesbø's work; this book is a lot better than the first two. But it's still reading in my second language, and Nesbø does like to use some fancy words. I'm gonna have a lot of vocabulary to go through once I finish!

Had another moment this week where Renshuu was constantly throwing this one word at me in my vocab quizzes and I could not remember it for love nor money, but then I heard one of my students saying it a couple of times while playing a game and I was like OH. OH THAT'S THE WORD. OH I GET IT NOW. And there were other moments where at first I didn't understand what the kids were saying but then after about 5 seconds it clicked.

This coming week I'm hoping to finish Rødstrupe, but it may be a challenge given how slowly I'm getting through it. Still, now that it's picking up a bit more I'm starting to read faster. As for Japanese, I'm planning to review all the grammar I've learned over the past month and maybe make some posts about it.
