POWERS & ABILITIES: "As a member of the alien Shi'ar race, Cerise possesses physical abilities much more powerful than an average Earth human female. She is capable of generating and psionically controlling energy fields comprised of coherent red spectrum light force in multiple forms ranging from concussive blasts, light or in the shape of solid weaponry and armour. Using this power also permits Cerise to levitate large objects such as an entire Sentinel by encasing it within a "bubble" of which she is capable of transporting great distances. Independent of this power, Cerise is able to fly on her own volition.

In her arsenal are Shi'ar developed gloves that contain broad-band sensors which can locate specific life-forms, temporal and/or dimensional frequencies and energy within her environment, as well as a suit which allows Cerise to travel through hypserpace.

I Won't Let You Fall

Sunlight dappled the forest floor through the thick green leaves up above. The distant sound of birds chirping every so often broke up the otherwise still silence that surrounding Viola and her newfound traveling companion, Z.W.E.I., as they trekked through the forest together. Most of their time walking was spent with Viola following Z.W.E.I.'s lead. Her crimson eyes eyed the black, feathery hair on the back of his head. It had been a few days since they had become acquainted, though Viola still found herself unsure of how she felt about him. His past was murky, stained with diluted ink and the scents of iron and despair. This did not match his current, more gentle and easy-going nature very well in Viola's eyes. Then again, human nature was a mystery to her. She couldn't decide if she believed he had some sort of ulterior motive to asking her to travel with him, or if he truly did think that they would work well together as a team as he had originally told her.

If you don't trust him, why did you agree to traveling with him? her own common sense nagged her inside her head. It was a question she didn't know how to answer. Perhaps she was simply tired of being alone, and being othered by everyone she came across? Or perhaps part of her wanted to believe that someone, for once, admired her for her differences and understood her struggles in a way that no one else would?

The sound of babbling water grew more noticeable as Z.W.E.I. led them to the bank of a creek. Large, wet rocks dotted the way across.

"Watch your step." Z.W.E.I. warned as his stone blue eyes looked back at Viola.

Viola frowned as she looked at the wet rocks. "...there isn't a bridge somewhere nearby that we can cross?"

"If we keep going, yes. But if we cross here, it can save us time getting to the next town," Z.W.E.I. explained. He looked back out at the water before touching an experimental foot to the rock in front of him. "It's perfectly safe, see?" he said as he demonstrated his point and took the first few steps. "Trust me," he continued before glancing back at her with a look meant to reassure her. "I won't let you fall."

Viola met his gaze with skepticism before taking a deep breath and following after him. With her orb clutched close to her chest, she took a cautious step out onto the first stone. She kept her gaze at her feet and watched each step she took. As she neared the opposite side of the creek, her attention snapped to a nearby rustling bush. Her heart dropped for a brief moment before realizing it was only a squirrel. She looked forward again and sighed in relief before taking another step toward the final rock.

A quiet gasp escaped her when she felt her foot slip off the edge of the rock. One arm clung to her orb while the other stretched out before her to grasp at a nonexistent ledge to steady herself.

In the blink of an eye and the beat of a heart, the next thing she knew, she was safely across the creek and face to face with Z.W.E.I., who looked down at her with searching eyes. "You okay?"

The sound of her heartbeat rang in her ears. She wasn't sure if it was because she almost fell, or if it was because if she leaned forward an inch more, she would be able to hear their hearts beat in tandem. Viola was unsure how long it took before she was able to nod in response to his question.

Z.W.E.I. smiled. "Like I said before," he began.

It was then that Viola became aware of the warmth surrounding her once free hand. His hand was strong, but held hers with the care of someone holding a freshly picked hyacinth stem. She looked down with curiosity at their hands clasped together before removing hers. She paced forward a few steps and stood with her back to him before looking down at her hand. "...you wouldn't let me fall," she finished.

now i don't mean to be presumptious. but i dont think this book was selling well at the time

well at least they tried to fit 1 member of excalibur in each cover. also only the first cover is clickbait, the others are more or less honest

speaking of covers this issue just doesn't have one. they didn't make a cover. they just used the first panel instead. i've never seen that before! and they're still having an x-man front and center!!
