One Piece - #1006 | The Honorable Hyogoro the Flower
Kicking back off the read along with a colorspread, yay! It’s been fun starting to get to know the Tobi Roppo and I’m excited to see how the rest of the raid turns out

okay. I swear somebody's already done one of these before but I'll never be able to find it and I'm curious because the shadow behemoth is a weekly YET AGAIN which is the boss I detest above all others. so.
Omitting Karka Queen/Drakkar since there's no more room and they were added after launch anyway. but feel free to say in the tags whether you hate them the most.

Regarding purple dragons, wyrms, and worms (and sea monsters):
We can find D&D's five chromatic dragon types all the way back in 1971 in the "Fantasy Supplement" appendix of Chainmail by Gary Gygax and Jeff Perren (above). Their main rules are for fire-breathing red dragons, but they suggest variant rules for blue and white dragons and briefly describe the traits of the black and green.
Included among these dragons is the purple dragon, aka mottled dragon, described as "a rare, flightless worm with a venomous sting in its tail." This use of "worm" seems to have the Old English meaning of wurm/wyrm as a reptile, serpent, or dragon, rather than as an earthworm.
Three years later Dungeons & Dragons Volume 2: Monsters & Treasure (1974) gives specific rules for all five chromatic dragons and adds the gold dragon as the only lawful dragon. It also clearly shows and describes the purple worm as a separate monster with the general form we know today, an oversized earthworm that can swallow an ogre whole:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The "Sea Monsters" entry that immediately follows mentions the purple worm in comparison, but has no corresponding stats on the Monster Reference Table. The specifics are left up to DMs to research and decide for themselves. What I take from that entry is that a sea monster might use the purple worm's stats and the same rules for swallowing prey, but could take any shape or other stats the DM chooses.
Supplement I: Greyhawk by Gygax & Kuntz (1976) adds the other metallic dragons, their Platinum King, and a Chromatic Queen of evil dragons.
Supplement II: Blackmoor by Arneson (1976) introduces many new aquatic monsters, including the first official elasmosaurus, mosasaurus, and plesiosaurus, and the "Mashers: Coral eaters, harmless unless frightened, if so is just like 20 hit dice Purple worm."
The 1977 AD&D Monster Manual names the opposing king and queen dragons as Bahamut and Tiamat. It includes the masher, now described as a large worm-like fish with poisonous spines, reduced to 8 hit dice from 20, and no longer compared to the purple worm. The MM also brings back the "mottled" name, formerly a synonym for the purple dragon in Chainmail, now an aquatic variant of the purple worm that almost feels like a replacement for the original masher and possibly recalls the OD&D sea monsters:
Tumblr media
The same book also includes other sea monster options like a giant sea snake as a variant of "Snake, Giant," the new dragon turtle, and the return of the elasmosaurus, mosasaurus, and plesiosaurus listed under "Dinosaurs."
The 2e Monstrous Compendium II (1989) gives the mottled worm the same brief mention as an aquatic variant purple worm, then I believe it passes from official D&D rules in later editions.
The purple worm remains one of the iconic creatures of the game, now far removed from its draconic origins.

Veera seems like a cinnamon roll, I'd love to know if she's problematic 👀
Waited until we finished book 5 of Curse of the Crimson Throne!
Veera is my pf1e Slayer/Vigilante, now level 15. She is the daughter of Vudran immigrants in Korvosa, and has taken up the mantle of local vigilante in her efforts to take down a tyrannical queen choking the life of her city. She's generally neutral good, a real goody two shoes! ...But she's also done/said some pretty dumb stuff.
Has never told her parents the truth about what she does and where she's been. She's out away for weeks and months at a time and they have no clue where is!
The above included when a crazy deadly plague was sweeping through the city and everyone was forced to quarantine. She was out and about never returning home! They probably thought she'd caught it and died out on the streets.
It continued when martial law was declared and brutally enforced.
It continued even more when the district they lived in was forcibly isolated and quarantined, and she couldn't even get back to her family. Her parents and small army of aunties and uncles were worried sick and had no way of knowing she was fine - much less fighting tyranny, devils, daemons, and fighting a cult of Urgathoa backed by the state.
And when she did reconnect with her family, she had the audacity to show up with NEON COLORED HAIR!?!? Her mom literally wept. (Thanks 'lightly cursed' chameleon ring).
She played Blood Pig. So many innocent little pigs... dead because of her...
Most of the time defaults to killing her foes rather than letting them live. Most are unrepentent or truly monsters at least...!
And yet among the people she has spared are Red Mantis assassins (Desna asked us to tbf)... Kuthonites... Nosferatu vampire guy... wererat terrorists... a sakhil... hags... AND
Decided to ally and work together with a rival Vudran business family (mafia) that her father has warned her against her whole life and she is like 99% sure are actually rakshasas
Of which said family had kidnapped the superhero vigilante she looked up to her whole life and had also kidnapped the city seneschal who is the only person who can oppose the tyrant queen legally and let them be tortured by asuras. Of which he said "whoopsie doodle I gave them express orders NOT to do that teethee." She was able to look past this.
When she found out the identity of the vigilante she spent her entire life idolizing, she was... not happy or nice about it. Refused to become his successor and chose her OWN vigilante identity, acting cold and spiteful about his inaction and failures to fix the mess of their city.
100% knowingly drank very poisoned "beer" from a goblin in a sewer as an intimidation tactic, crushed the fort save, and then cornered the goblin and tried to force them to drink it themselves (said goblin turned out to be a greater barghest so don't feel bad).
When her friend was bit by a wererat she told him it was okay he could just buy a cage and lock himself up at night. (He did jsdljskldja)
Nearly killed a gargantuan wurm connected with the plane of fire that's a literal living legend and sacred beast to local Shoanti tribes trying to get it to eat her friend to recreate a myth for clout with them
Said wurm kept refusing to eat him, so she let it eat her instead rather than risk letting it die which denied him, also a Shoanti, a key moment to connect with his culture and heritage. The experience wasn't spiritual for her. She rather hated it lol (mmm super heated wurm viscera)
Tricked kobolds into thinking we wanted to pledge ourselves to their red dragon master so that they'd take us to his lair. We killed them. And the dragon.
Cooperated with Kuthonites on numerous occasions, including helping them retake an ancient castle that's been cursed for 700 years and was the home of a divinely sent blue dragon super turbo tyrant warlord chosen by Zonny Boy himself.
This castle has been under watch by the local orcs because said dragon genocided them in the past and they have taken oaths to never let him rise again - we ended up having to kill one of them to get past... sorry guy...
Fought a graveknight and upon learning they're unkillable so long as their armor sticks around, opted to throw the armor into a well without its weapons and let the cleric seal it with wall of stone.
Fought a mummy lord and upon learning they ALSO are unkillable (except by a series of convoluted means), dragged the not-yet-regenerated corpse into a star tower (the zon-kuthon created nails in Rovagug's cage) and shackled it into adamantine manacles.
In said tower, a "curate" was needed to keep it from decaying and thus weakening Rovagug's cage. A divinely sent nightwing asked us if we wanted the job. Obviously not, we're Kuthonites. Veera wanted to offer the souls of their Kuthonite allies (stuck in gems thanks to a demilich obliterating their bodies) directly to it assuming they'd be cool with it and thrilled to go directly to Zon Kuthon... instead of, you know, being resurrected
They in fact were not cool with it. Upon bringing them back and telling them the situation they tried to kill each other to force the other into being the new curate. Veera intervened and brutalized the instigator so badly in a single round that he dragged himself over to the nightwing and begged to be saved by taking on the role.
And this is why her vigilante persona, Raja, is chaotic neutral, and she herself is neutral good :)

[ad_1] Scientists from Queen Mary College of London have found out that a new type of ant society unfold throughout species. They discovered that once the brand new type of society advanced in a single species, a "social supergene" wearing the instruction-set for the brand new social shape unfold into different species. This unfold took place thru hybridisation, i.e., breeding between ants of various species. This not likely tournament supplies another way of living, making the ants extra a hit than if they simply had the unique social shape. Pink hearth ants initially had best colonies with one queen. The workforce prior to now found out that about a million years in the past, a brand new social shape advanced the place colonies can have dozens of queens. A selected model of a giant segment of chromosome, named the "social supergene," comprises the genetic knowledge vital to make staff settle for multiple queen. The brand new analysis, revealed nowadays in Nature Communications, analysed all the genomes or instruction units of 365 male hearth ants to inspect the evolution of the social supergene, and located that the similar model of this chromosome is found in a number of hearth ant species. Switch of enormous quantities of genetic knowledge throughout species is unusual as a result of genetic incompatibilities. Then again, on this case, the benefits of having a number of queens overrode the incompatibilities, and the genetic subject material time and again unfold to different species from the only supply species wherein this new social shape advanced. The multiple-queen social shape has benefits in numerous scenarios. As an example, a multiple-queen colony has extra staff and thus can outcompete a colony with just one queen. Moreover, if there's a flood, a colony with a number of queens is much less more likely to grow to be queenless. Dr Yannick Wurm, Reader in Evolutionary Genomics and Bioinformatics at Queen Mary College of London and a fellow of The Alan Turing Institute stated: "This analysis unearths how evolutionary inventions can unfold throughout species. It additionally presentations how evolution works on the stage of DNA and chromosomes. "It was once extremely unexpected to find that different species may just achieve a brand new type of social organisation thru hybridisation. The supergene area that creates multi-queen colonies is a huge piece of chromosome that incorporates masses of genes. The various portions of a genome evolve to paintings in combination in fine-tuned manners, thus all of sudden having a mixture with other variations of many genes from some other species is difficult and rather uncommon. "As an alternative of executing additional queens as they'd in a single-queen colony, the brand new model of the supergene leads staff to just accept a number of queens. Having studied the historical past of the supergene and new social shape broadly, we subsequent wish to establish which genes or portions of the supergene area, result in those adjustments in behaviour. This may increasingly additionally lend a hand fill extra gaps in our figuring out of evolutionary processes." Rodrigo Pracana, a lead creator of the learn about, additionally at Queen Mary College of London added: "Our learn about presentations how detailed research of enormous numbers of untamed animals may give unexpected new perception on how evolution works." The workforce from Queen Mary had been prior to now a few of the first on the earth to use large-scale DNA-sequencing approaches to wild bugs -- which enabled them to find probably the most first well known supergenes. Pink hearth ants are local to South The us and notorious for his or her painful sting. This kind of species is understood in lots of different portions of the arena, the place it's aggressiveness and top inhabitants density have made it an invasive pest. Efforts at controlling the unfold of this species have in large part been unsuccessful, as indicated by means of its Latin identify, Solenopsis invicta, which means "the invincible."
The analysis was once supported by means of the Leibniz Institute for the Research of Biodiversity Trade, with Dr. Eckart Stolle aiding as a part of the workforce at Queen Mary earlier than proceeding this paintings on the Leibniz Institute. Tale Supply: Materials supplied by means of Queen Mary University of London. Notice: Content material is also edited for taste and duration. Time to meet the rest of the Gauntlet kids!
[February 3, 2023, third part of this conversation]
{Krizste:}
quick rapid fire me the other crazy kids
{Haji:}
N / Nia I'd feel awkward doing a rapid fire for because I only really know my lore for them 😂
But a few things of note:
- She's sometimes called "The Wurm Queen" because early on we had like three notable Wurmple before settling on one that became a Dustox and made it to the Hall of Fame
- Her relationship with Norman is usually portrayed as pretty friendly. This incarnation of him is awkward and doesn't know how to dad, but that's okay because she's such a nature girl she doesn't come home often either. They care but... They're just friends.
- In BB2 because of the mod, all of the Hoenn leaders showed up like you guys saw in Volt White 2. There were jokes that as leader of the region, she probably brought them all with her to help with whatever is going on in BB2.
Some lore has her as literally N since it's her name so she's able to talk to Pokemon and is seriously a Disney princess but much like N, that doesn't mean she won't kick ass if she sees Pokemon being abused.
Her Aggron was named ATM and is sometimes portrayed as a literal machine 😂
Also like with N we seemed to change our team after every town but around Slateport is when we started to stabilize. Possibly because Team Aqua made it clear she needed a set team to take on these guys as her usual "whatever is in the area works" tactic wasn't good for dealing with serious criminals
This sometimes causes her to butt heads with Izzy.
Isabelle Bow aka Ice has a few interpretations for her
All of them have her being a studious and relatively serious young lady though. She's very no nonsense to a point where the main joke with her is her post game team had Giratina, Dialga and Arceus and she totally doesn't believe in gods (despite accidentally creating one in the form of God Fish)
So different lore branches
- The bow aspect made her a contest star and she'll be happy to show that frilly girly girls can still beat your ass.
- A big part of her skepticism is because she works as a paranormal investigator and is out to prove none of this hocus pocus actually exists
- A member of the Interpol on Galactic's trail. Undercover name is Ice while her rival Diamond is more of a friendly fellow agent keeping each other up to speed and up to snuff because these space men are no joke.
- .... Possibly all of the above are true with her being a paranormal investigator who does contests between projects and was recently enlisted by the Interpol to help due to her expertise on disbanding cults if she can just prove Cyrus and this whole 'new world order" is a fraud
The blonde hair in her design came up because the last Animal Crossing game had just been released and people made the connection to the adorable dog secretary Isabel. Combine that with the meme of Isabel and the Doom Guy are friends and she occasionally goes into the Doom world to hunt and stress relief and welp :tppWowee:
Didn't help that we had a Torterra named BFG
Which could be Big Friendly Giant, but also had some portrayals that the tree on its back is a BIG FREAKIN GUN 😂
{Mitzi:}
yes, yes, i should be in bed. quick personal gauntlet kid characterisations:
red: obsessive antisocial glitchmancer/hacker who discovered his original timeline self started an apocalypse cult at age 10 and has never been quite the same since. is exactly as Like That as red and abe, but don’t tell him that
dipper: just wanted to look at plants and it all got a bit out of hand. token sane guy, probably the closest they have to a leader, poor kid
n: n. smiles serenely, befriends eldritch abominations, obeys no law of god or man, possibly immortal. extremely good at wrecking everything while remaining kind and enthusiastic throughout
izzy: discovered she lived in a lovecraft short story and immediately started investing in legendaries. won’t back down, won’t take no for an answer, won’t admit she might not actually be able to do something
reese: flamboyant dresses, acting stardom, and also maybe some plot if she absolutely has to. fought iris purely to steal her dress
esther: look she’s 9. likes hats and (association) football, is friends with an eldritch horror but that’s basically the most unusual thing about her. gonna grow up into an absolutely terrifying adult though, no question
BONUS:
team release the fossil gods: n, esther (kinda)
team do not release the impossibly ancient lovecraftian deities, they will literally destroy the world: red, izzy (when she doesn’t have more pressing things to worry about)
team please stop fighting: dipper
team you literally could not pay me to care about this: reese
{Krizste:}
Tumblr media
{Haji:}
But yeah, so the longer version with Reese is Red0 is trying to be edgy and chaotic and darkness and stuff, Reese is literally a natural. Not even trying. S/he ignores the plot in favor of whatever has caught their interest at the time, which ended up being the first (?) Unova host to 100% the PokeStar Studios.
- Also the game did something weird where we got Darkrai to appear before the post game and it became our ace for that run.
- Reese loved fashion and bright lights, I think they'd get along with Yuu in the worst ways possible. Reese doesn't do explosions though, but would probably enjoy the flair if running the catwalk with pyrotechnics.
- There were questions about the relationship with Darkrai, whether Reese was being puppeted for dark purposes or if Reese was the bad influence and now Darkrai is a big name director making some of the worst movies but we love them anyway. Either way, we think the other hosts may have shown up in the post game because Reese was perceived as a threat whether they actually are or not.
{Krizste:}
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
{Mitzi:}
HOW BAD EACH GAUNTLET KID WOULD BE TO FIGHT, FROM MOST SURVIVABLE TO LEAST:
reese: a lot more collected than her gender presentation would imply, and if you did actually manage to piss her off her immediate recourse would be mean girls bullshit. if you do get into a pokemon battle with her, beware: her signature strategy is cheese
esther: her being friends with a fossil god comes up less often than you might think, she prefers to fight her own battles. if you do manage to hurt her badly enough though, there is that small omnipresent all-but-omnipotent sentient-piece-of-the-universe wrinkle to worry about
izzy: big jump here. izzy’s hobby is strat-o-matic-ing battles with universe-devouring lovecraftian monsters, cross her and you’re basically doomed. best you can hope for is register as an insignificant enough threat she’ll forget you exist after dealing with you
red: look the thing about glitchmancers is that they’re only moderately in control of their crazy powers at the best of times, and sometimes red will even admit that. he’ll either ignore you or make you wish you’d never been born, and you’ll probably not know which is which until all your insides have been swapped with chewing gum
n: oh god. n is even harder to piss off than reese but makes up for that by being (1) an ambiguously human unaging immortal of unclear origin and powers with friends in some very high places and (2) completely unpredictable in every possible way. n follows n rules, n does whatever they want, and n’s been known to bring regions to their knees. i’m honestly not sure what they’re capable of, but i’m sure it’s Bad
dipper: is he hiding some sort of secret rage mode superpower or angsty superpowered dark side? nah. dipper is exactly as kind-hearted and harmless as he appears, a true sunshine boy. you’d have to be a real tool to even think about hurting him
you know who agrees with me about this assessment?
the other gauntlet kids
{Haji:}
The question seems to imply you've already pissed them off, so for me it goes Esther, N, Red0, Dippy, Reese, Izzy. But as you said, the problem with some of these is they aren't so quick to attack. Esther is more likely to get in a fight than Reese, but the image of Dippy being the worst one to upset is because the others will all jump you is amazing 😂
I still find it hilarious with Dippy too because I'm sure most Trainers would look at the squad and go "Go for the tree hugger! He's the weak link!" And then Dippy has a fucking bear and steel giant and other things they probably weren't expecting a simple botanist to have :OMEGALUL:
YOU COME FOR THE TREES, YOU DEAL WITH THE FOREST
Oh and I will note in the branching lore for Reese to save on future confusion, some will say girl, some will say guy so decide your own pronouns. Reese may actually not have any
Or all
That's just a very Reese thing to do
{Krizste:}
reese pronown officially Thon
:^>
{Haji:}
I think I actually remember us joking at one point about Reese trying to physically hold all the pronouns. 😂
{Krizste:}
Tumblr media
reese going to abooth with pronown stickers/badges and taking them all and decroating a hat wit hit like roark
Tumblr media Tumblr media
{Tranzi:}
i was just thinking of reese as a drag queen but this interpretation is funny so i accept this :Keepo:
{Haji:}
I have him as a drag queen in my head :tppPika:
{Tranzi:}
when reese discovered the beautiful world of nounpronouns it was the time when darkrai actually tried to use dark void on its own owner to prevent world from a catastrophe
:Keepo:
{Mitzi:}
… i generally think of reese as a she/her gay man, but thinking about it yeah, she probably doesn’t give much of a shit
her gender is ✨gorgeous✨
{Tranzi:}
her gender sparkles so much that lil'd is crying in his french corner
:tppWait:
{Haji:}
Oh! Actual last thing I'll say about Reese
The run kinda soured towards the end because in order to beat the game, we had to be the Gauntlet PWT where the devs brought the previous four kids back. ... In a gauntlet... With boosted levels and items... And some "interesting" abilities for the Red and Crystal mons since they didn't have them. And no healing in between. This went on for days(? Certainly felt like it) until we had run out of other stuff to do to cool off from the frustration of losing and most were ready for this to be over with. We even traded in for a Landurus grinded to 100 and still couldn't win. Finally chat got mad enough to go into democracy mode to use healing items and I think we stayed in demo to fight too. Because we knew it could be done but it was so precise that it seemed like one wrong input could cost the whole thing which couldn't be done with the crowd we had for this. And then when we FINALLY win, the devs had put in the original gauntlet with the S1 kids for us to fight as well. I like to think Reese was so pissed by this point they just steamrolled it.
Hilariously, I actually hc that after this experience at the PWT, Reese was so mad at the others after the GKids found out Reese wasn't the world ending threat they thought, (HE was trying to stop THEM), they weren't on speaking terms for years. Reese has been living in Kalos under the name Diantha for some time by the time Esther came around
D has been well acquainted with this sparkle bun for some time now
{Mitzi:}
oh did we mention that reese is diantha? (in gauntlet y, anyway)
reese is diantha
{Haji:}
That was coming up when we got to Esther stories XD
I mean, that's just my hc, but going back to earlier when I said Wikstrom had Red0's team, Diantha had Reese's. Drasna had Izzy, Seibold had Dippy's, and Malva had N's
Some say just go with the game explanation where the E4 got to borrow them, some say the GKids came in during the post game, but like I said, me and a few others like to think the Diantha we see throughout the game was Reese all along
I missed a lot of X so I'll let others explain. A few key points though
- Esther being into sports came up from the Amie mini games iirc. This was the first time we had enough control to legitimately play them.
- Had Sail, which even if some other others had fossils, this was a first for TPP so there's some depictions that Esther may be an Acolyte (like Red is to Helix). Sail is an interesting god because it's usually said to be in charge of relationships; friends, family, lovers, meetings and partings, it's no surprise given how many friends Esther has either. Between the in-game group you travel with and the GKids asking her to join, she's pretty popular.
- notably we have a Ducklet named Fucklet and some tease that Esther doesn't know what that means, others say she totally swears up a storm surprising people given her age.

Over the Nexus Deck Profile: Hiita Control
Tumblr media
Charmers are a very flawed set of monsters. One of those flaws is their dependency on your opponent playing the right attribute. But what if we build around getting past that? Enter Lava Golem and Volcanic Queen, the precursors to the infamous Kaiju archetype of modern Yugioh. With these cards, we can remove our opponent's monsters and ensure they have a FIRE monster to steal at the same time. This is where our key card, Hiita the Fire Charmer, comes in. Hiita's defense is too low to be reliable on its own, so using cards like Threatening Roar and Waboku, we can keep Hiita alive so we can take back our Lava Golem or Volcanic Queen and use it to beat our opponent's face in. But these two monsters have a drawback, being the burn damage they inflict to us every turn. If we're unlucky, these monsters can burn us out of the game. Fortunately, we have means of removing them from our field in Spiritual Fire Art - Kurenai, which fittingly has Hiita in the card artwork. It allows us to tribute our FIRE monster to inflict its ATK stat as damage to the opponent, which has multiple uses; we can use it to remove the monster as previously mentioned, but we can also use it to finish off our opponent's life points, or to get rid of the monster if Hiita is about to be destroyed, because these monsters depend on Hiita to remain loyal to us. As a backup option, we play Remove Brainwashing, which is a more reliable method of stealing back our monsters than Hiita, but it has the drawback of being bricky sometimes and messing with our Mind Control and occasionally Monster Reborn. Because Kurenai encourages us to play FIRE monsters anyway, I supplement this deck with the Flamvell engine, which works quite nicely with the levels of our monsters, and gives us more consistent options for board presence and offensive pressure, which is quite a nice thing to have in a gimmicky deck like this. As another method of accessing Synchros, we play Debris Dragon, which not only works well with Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter, but also Hiita herself, as her being level 3 means we can use her and Debris Dragon to easily go into Ancient Fairy Dragon to wall up, or Black Rose Dragon as a spontaneous field nuke. This is quite possibly one of the worst decks I've ever uploaded, but it is also quite possibly the funniest! One of the most interesting of these European Princesses is Her Royal Highness Feodora of Saxe-Meiningen, the only child of the hereditary Prince of Saxe-Meiningen, and the eldest of Queen Victoria's great-grandchildren, as her mother was the eldest daughter of Empress Frederick of Germany. Princess Feodora is just seventeen, and as she is one of the wealthiest princessesof the day there are always rumours about her engagement to some more or less influential personage. She is very pretty, and so bright that she is most popular with all the Court circles, including the Empress Frederick. She is very musical, and does the greatest credit to her instructress Fraulein Marie Wurm. The Princess also has considerable talent for painting. She is very carefully brought up, and most simple in her tastes. The girl-Queen of Holland is one of her greatest friends. She is very fond of her cousins, the Emperor's little sons, and she frequently spends the day with them and their sweet little sister, Princess Victoria Louise, who may also claim a place among the unmarried Princesses of Europe.

Headcanon time: Sanne’s status among the norn
Tumblr media
What’s this? A headcanon time that’s not about Nyra? Hell yeah!! And for my norn daughter no less!
Basically, I was wondering how norn social currency, so to speak, in terms of the relationship between blood and deeds worked and since there’s no obvious nobility like we see in humans, I thought Sanne was just a regular norn there, with no pedigree attached.
Upon further inspection, I was wrong. Miss Sunshine does have some pedigree, and this is my dive into why.
Let’s start with her family: her mother is a shaman, her father is a respected hunter, her sister is also a shaman. Shamans do occupy a meaningful role in norn society, less glorious one than havroun, but still not every norn can become a shaman. And Sanne herself has every affinity to become a shaman, she just chose not to due to life circumstances. This line of deep connection to the Spirits can be traced to the last shaman of Ox (possibly even farther than that!) who is Sanne’s grandfather! And in a race who values spirituality as much as norn do (in a way different from humans, but certainly no less meaningful; I have a headcanon time post for some of my thoughts for human religiosity if you’re curious!) this is huge.
She’s also Forgal’s niece. Forgal, who likely had lots of respect of his countrymen and whose presence as a Warmaster of the Vigil likely attracted lots of norn to the order, and whose legend only grew after his death at Claw Island thanks to Nyra and Sanne. So, she’s a niece of a prestigious hero and granddaughter/daughter/sister of shamans, also a potential shaman herself.
But it doesn’t stop here!
Sanne also has a number of personal accomplishments to add to her legend. She’s a Slayer of Issormir. Here’s what Hidden Arcana library quest has to say on the Great hunts:
Experienced hunters capture a different foe each year. In 1325, for example, it was Issormir, a great ice wurm. Many died in the battle. Only one was victorious.
Or if norn:
Experienced hunters capture a different foe each year. In 1325, for example, it was Issormir, a great ice wurm. Many died in the battle. Only one was victorious. (Character name), Slayer of Issormir.
Bergaith also says, in Hoelbrak ambient dialogue, that winning the Great Hunt is one of his proudest moments even years after it’s happened. Now in my canon, there are two Slayers, Sanne and her first mate Kiernan,  and I moved it to three years before, in 1322 AE, but the fact still stands; winning a Great Hunt is a mark of honour, especially as she’s the last Slayer of Issormir still alive.
She’s also a healer! I can’t find the NPC dialogue but healers in Hoelbrak are not as frequent, and though I’m not entirely sure if they’re looked down upon (which I do remember reading in that dialogue) but still, another mark of distinction.
And a skaald. Again, not officially, but everyone knows Sanne is a skaald, and those are more respected than healers.
This is all pre-Personal Story. We have a shaman-esque skaald Slayer of Issormir hunter. Ya girl got some pedigree.
(Also, she may have participated in the Great Hunt more than once.)
In more recent times (Icebrood-wise) she is amongst the rare people who saw Jormag awaken, and she’s the mate of the Norn of Prophecy, and boasts how she lost her axe and around 10 arrows in the final battle against Jormag by sticking them in their snout.
I think this combination of birth/accomplishment requirements (leaning more towards accomplishments; she wouldn’t have made a legend if she wasn’t Slayer regardless of her birth) is very interesting and gives her a very interesting place in my roster of characters. Between Nyra, a noble who is a descendant of kings and queens of Ascalon, and Ren, a poor homeless kid, she stands in the interesting middle.
It also informs her desire to change her name to Bjornsdottir, because remember, she was born as Hellesdottir, after her mother Hel. When Kiernan died, she wanted a fresh start, one less tied to her heritage and more tied to her own deeds. So she chose Bjornsdottir, Bear’s daughter, as a callback to all of that, but also something that is her own.
