US Harm Reduction Resources
continually updating, not a complete list. feel free to add on any resources you find helpful.
Free Safer Supplies:
Each organization will have different supplies, but generally, harm reduction orgs provide things like syringes, safer snorting + smoking kits, Narcan, condoms, lube, and wound care supplies. Each org has different policies for how to get supplies--some do deliveries, some have drop in centers, some only do one to one needle exchange, some are more flexible.

Mundane AU!Laios thoughts
Note:
Probably contains spoilers
Mundane au= no magic and no fantasy 'races' (like... little people are a thing, they exist in reality, some people just have dwarfism. The elves are just skinny racist and xenophobic Europeans like? And there's already parralells made with the demi humans so if I do anything the orcs are Afro Native and Kobolds are somewhere African or Arab. And for the ogres... gigantism is a thing that exists in real like and totally a teen girl would just wear some horns.)
Thoughts:
The Toudens are European-born. From somewhere cold as hell, really isolated and conservative, that's close to some mountains, that's racist towards the local indigenous people.
(The sibs, but especially Laios got chewed out about some shit and has been trying to be better, slips up every now and then but takes criticism well so long as folks tell him what he did/said wrong).
Local weird kids put off vibes that the rest of the village didn't like, Laios and Falin grew up bullied and ostracized. Falin got sent off to schooling in the big city and later to a university in Italy where she met Marcille.
Laios dropped out of high school and joined the military as soon as he was able to b/c he wanted to get the hell out of dodge. Served for a few shitty years b4 just... deserting and backpacking across Europe just straight up homeless and working whatever odd jobs he could find. Man was going through it. Wound up in the same city where Falin was studying at a university in and decided to visit her. She took one look at him and refused to let him just go back to what he was doing, so Laios started couch surfing with her (very much against dorm rules but he looked terrible and Falin wasn't about to let anyone stop her from making sure her brother has a roof over his head and food).
Eventually, she takes him with her when she does a work-study in the USA for her ecology degree and they ended up staying/Falin kinda maybe sorta dropped out and got a job with a vet near where she was doing her work-study.
Laios and Falin are technically illegal immigrants but they're white so no one really questions their citizenship (their working on getting citizenship/papers)
Laios gets a GED. Does some self-study from Falin's textbooks and online stuff but that's about it for his schooling.
Laios definitely, like, lives in Falin's basement. Falin is the primary breadwinner in this household, Laios is aware of this and has learned to accept it even tho he would like to take care of his baby sister and sometimes feels bad about not being able to. They used to share a room in a cheap apartment but after building up enough savings they managed to buy a suspiciously cheap house in a rural town bordering a reservation and not far from a national park.
Laios still works odd jobs, mostly physical labor and stuff where they won't ask for a degree. Has worked retail, where his customer service was trash but he's darn good at just stocking and shelving shit.
Met Chilchuck while working retail, Chilchuck introduced him to the concept of a union which Laios thinks is really neat.
The town where the Touden's moved has a sizable population of people with dwarfism, Chilchuck is a notable member of the little person community in the area. The Touden's go to Chilchuck for help with paperwork (they pay him a small fee) and he doesn't ask too many questions about why they don't have this or that piece of documentation.
Laios enjoys doing citizen science and bird watching. During the tourist season, he runs a small wilderness guide giving campers and hikers tours in the local national park.
There's a hermit that lives in the national park illegally (Senshi) that Laios and Falin made friends with. They love his cooking.
Laios is active in the online furry community. He does commissions, mostly of digital and physical art or people's fursonas and vore stuff. He does great ferals, and decent anthros, but his human art is not good (he's working on it).
Laios is decidedly chubby in this, his weight goes up and down depending on the season and how much physical activity he's doing. But ever since he reunited with Falin, she's been making sure he doesn't skip meals if they can afford to eat. And ever since he met Senshi he's gotten heftier since he loves that man's cooking.

Thousands with disabilities subjected to segregation in these three states
Michael Loria
USA TODAY
A family wonders how a cousin “slipped through the cracks” and wound up in a state nursing facility not long after her 18th birthday; a mother wonders how she lost her daughter to the same system; and a woman in her late 50s longs to leave a state facility to see her family again.
These are among the findings of an extensive Department of Justice investigation into how three states – Missouri, Utah and Nebraska – illegally segregated people with mental health disabilities. Federal prosecutors found that the states are unnecessarily institutionalizing thousands of people in state facilities, cutting them off from family and the rest of society.
The investigations date back to March 2021 based on numerous complaints.
“I have a dream that one day I will be free. Free to live on my own, free to live within my community, free to have overnight visits with my grandchildren,” says Angela, the woman in her late 50s, in the Missouri report issued by the DOJ. The federal report quotes people by their first name only. “Free to not be told who I can associate with, free to not have someone place me in a nursing home and leave me, without any regard to my well-being mentally and physically, most of all just free to live my life.”
The investigations found widespread violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act, which says adults with disabilities must live in as integrated of settings as possible.
"This is about weaving people with disabilities into the tapestry of American life," Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division told USA TODAY. "This is about bringing an end to the unnecessary segregation and isolation of people with disabilities in our country. And it's about recognizing their dignity, their autonomy and their independence."
The investigations were published around the 25th anniversary of the 1999 Olmstead v. L.C. Supreme Court decision which upheld the principle that public entities must provide community-based services to people with disabilities to prevent segregation.
"Our work is about breathing life into the ADA's integration mandate," Clarke said. "We hope that our enforcement work sends a loud message to jurisdictions about the steps that they must take to comply with the law, and specifically to comply with the ADA."
The office of Missouri Gov. Michael L. Parson did not respond to requests for comment. The state cooperated with the Justice Department’s investigation, according to the report.
The report from the DOJ is one in a slew of investigations that have also gone after Utah and Nebraska for similar practices.
A federal investigation into practices in Utah found that the state is segregating people with disabilities by placing them in isolated “warehouse-like” facilities for day programs; an investigation into Nebraska’s practices found the state was also placing people with disabilities into segregated day programs and segregated living facilities.
In a statement, Utah’s Department of Health and Human Services said it’s committed to improving state treatment of people with disabilities. Nebraska’s Department of Health and Human Services said it was disappointed with the Justice Department’s "allegations,” adding that Gov. Jim Pillen’s administration had already shown its commitment to improving care for people with disabilities.
'Highly restrictive and controlled' in Missouri
The 45-page DOJ report on Missouri’s treatment of people with mental disabilities details how the state systematically funneled people into state nursing facilities, even though almost none needed even short-term stays.
The facilities come with skilled caregivers and are commonly known as nursing homes. But more than half of the people covered in the report were under 65 and didn’t require the care offered. The people covered in the report had been inside them for at least three years on average, and around half were clustered at just 39 of the state’s 500 nursing facilities.
The people interviewed in the report describe prison-like conditions at the facilities.
“They are highly restrictive and controlled settings that isolate and segregate residents by severely limiting or entirely cutting off their relationships with loved ones and their community,” the report says, “preventing them from interacting with non-disabled people.”
The isolation inhibits residents from pursuing work or education, which the report called “hallmarks of a segregated institution.”
“My son had a life before they took him there and now, he has nothing,” the mother of a man named Kelvin is quoted in the report as saying.
The DOJ investigation was based on reviewing state documents, data and interviews with dozens of state officials and county officials who are appointed guardians for people with disabilities, plus 130 interviews with people directly impacted by the state’s practices. Investigators inspected over 60 sites, including psychiatric hospitals and sites housing people with mental health disabilities.
Rules, according to people who described the facilities as like jail, included no telephone use, mail, freedom to leave and just one hour outside per day.
How do people end up there?
Federal officials found Missouri relies on state institutions more than almost any other state. Nearly 3,300 people without Alzheimer’s or dementia have been in such institutions for over 100 days as of March 2023, according to the report. They hold an average of 95 residents but range in size from 47 to 225 people.
Missouri places people with bipolar disorder or schizophrenia in its facilities at one of the highest rates in the country. At 10 of the 39 facilities, adults with either bipolar or schizophrenia diagnoses account for 82% to 90% of the population in 2021.
The people covered in the report have “low care needs.” Nationally, low-care residents account for 9% of people in nursing facilities; in Missouri, they account for 25%. The rate of people under 65 is more than twice the national rate of 18%.
The report attributed the widespread practice to the state’s court-appointed guardianship system, which it called a “pipeline to a nursing facility.” The pattern in Missouri is that people with mental health disabilities cycle in and out of psychiatric hospitals; they get assigned a guardian, either family or a public administrator because they’re found to be unable to care for themselves; and then, frequently, the guardian places the person in state facilities.
Thousands have ended up in nursing facilities as a result of guardianship. One unnamed person cited in the report called the court-mandated oversight a “sentence to be locked in a (nursing facility).”
Guardians are also allowed to set limits beyond those set by the actual facilities.
“Prisoners have more rights than a person under guardianship has,” said a resident named Angela. “Anything I do or have pleasure in, like smoking, can be taken away (at) the whim of my guardian.”
Alternatives to institutions
The people in Missouri institutions instead need community-based services, according to the report, which allow them to live in their communities in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. All are offered in the Midwestern state but not widely.
The alternatives, the report says, include:
◾ Assertive community treatment: an evidence-based model where people with mental health disabilities are treated by people trained in psychiatry, social work, nursing and other fields.
◾ Permanent supportive housing: another evidence-based model where the person with a disability is limited to spending up to 30% of their income on rent for housing that’s in a community or building not reserved for people with disabilities.
◾ Peer support service: A type of mental health care provided by people with experience with mental health issues.
◾ Mobile crisis services: Mental health providers respond to mental health emergencies like 911 intending to divert people from psychiatric hospitalization.
◾ Crisis stabilization services: These community settings serve as an alternative to emergency rooms for people experiencing mental health crises and aim to connect them to lasting care.
Utah investigation
The DOJ found Utah was “segregating” people with disabilities, a clear violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The federal investigators found the state has a practice of funneling people with disabilities into programs in “warehouse-like” settings in isolation from people without disabilities. In such settings, they aren't allowed to choose how to spend their time and cannot partake in typical community activities, including shopping, exercising, or meeting friends.
At the warehouses, they perform repetitive tasks like sorting through recycling, shredding paper, or folding laundry, often for less than minimum wage, the report says. The programs tend to target young people with disabilities who are transitioning out of school.
The report found the wait for state vocational programs providing long-term job support for people with disabilities is over five years long.
The Utah investigation began in March 2021 and was published this week.
Joe Dougherty, a spokesperson for the state’s Department of Health and Human Services, issued a statement in response.
“While nobody likes hearing that their programs still have barriers for people to receive services, the state of Utah sees people with disabilities as critical citizens in our state and is committed to improving our service system,” he said. “The benefit is reciprocal, as people in the community benefit from the talents, perspectives and experiences of people with disabilities.”
Nebraska pushes back
The DOJ’s investigation in Nebraska focused on people with serious mental illness. It found the state was also funneling people into segregated day programs and living facilities, rather than programs aimed at promoting integration.
State law, according to the report, mandates there be enough community-based programs to ensure people with mental illness can work and live independently. But around 5,000 people live in nursing facilities, many exclusively for people with disabilities.
Nebraska’s Department of Health and Human Services pushed back against what it called “allegations.”
Spokesperson Jeff Powell touted the creation of Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics where anyone can get mental health care; the development of better programs to help people get disability accommodations; and the fact that it already offered employment and supportive housing programs.
“Pointedly, the DOJ concedes that the programs desired by the federal government already exist in Nebraska today,” Powell said. “DHHS intends to resolve this matter as expeditiously as possible and in a manner consistent with law and the best interests of the people of Nebraska

24th February >> Fr. Martin’s Gospel Reflections / Homilies on Matthew 9:14-15 for Friday after Ash Wednesday: ‘The time will come for the bridegroom to be taken away’.
Friday after Ash Wednesday
Gospel (Except USA)
Matthew 9:14-15
When the bridegroom is taken from them, then they will fast.
John’s disciples came to Jesus and said, ‘Why is it that we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not?’ Jesus replied, ‘Surely the bridegroom’s attendants would never think of mourning as long as the bridegroom is still with them? But the time will come for the bridegroom to be taken away from them, and then they will fast.’
Gospel (USA)
Matthew 9:14-15
When the bridegroom is taken from them, then they will fast.
The disciples of John approached Jesus and said, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast much, but your disciples do not fast?” Jesus answered them, “Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.”
Reflections (8)
(i) Friday after Ash Wednesday
In the gospel reading, Jesus affirms the value of fasting for the time after his death and resurrection, the time of the church, ‘The time will come for the bridegroom to be taken away from them, and then they will fast’. Only Ash Wednesday and Good Friday remain as days of fast and abstinence, but the whole season of Lent has been traditionally understood as such a time. We deny ourselves something so that we can give ourselves more fully to the way of the Lord. The saying ‘no’ that fasting involves is always in the service of a greater ‘yes’ to the Lord and his people. This is what the prophet Isaiah stresses in today’s first reading. He makes a firm connection between fasting and the service of the Lord through the care of the most vulnerable, breaking unjust fetters, letting the oppressed go free, sharing our bread with the hungry, sheltering the homeless poor, clothing the naked. Jesus declares in the gospel that whatever we do for those in greatest need we do for him, and whatever we do for him we do for God, because he, Jesus, is God-with-us. Within the Christian tradition, Lent, the season of fasting, is also the season when we give ourselves in a special way to those in greatest need. The Trocaire Lenten campaign is one expression of that dimension of Lent. Showing hospitality to the refugees of the war in Ukraine, is another expression of the care of the needy that both Isaiah and Jesus stress so strongly. Isaiah declares to the people in that first reading that if they care for the vulnerable, those wounded in some way, their own wound will be healed over. We ourselves are healed when we work for the healing of others. As Jesus declares in the gospels, when we give to others, it will be given to us in abundance.
And/Or
(ii) Friday after Ash Wednesday
Both readings this morning speak of fasting, one of the traditional Lenten practices. We tend to think of fasting in relation to food. To fast is to deprive ourselves of certain foods for a period of time. In the first reading, however, Isaiah defines fasting much more broadly than that. He understands it as fasting from all those ways of relating to people that damage and oppress them and replacing such ways of relating with working for justice on behalf of those in greatest need. Isaiah seems to be saying that fasting can never be separated from that other Jewish practice that we associate with Lent, almsgiving, the sharing of our resources with others. On Ash Wednesday the gospel reading put before us the three great Lenten disciplines of prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Isaiah reminds us this morning that all three stand or fall together. They are three expressions of one way of life. We cannot focus on any one to the detriment of the other two. Fasting is saying ‘no’ to something. Isaiah reminds us that such saying ‘no’ is always with a view to saying ‘yes’, a ‘yes’ that finds expression in greater service of our neighbour. Such service of others makes our prayer more acceptable to God. In the words of our first reading, ‘Cry, and the Lord will answer; call and he will say, “I am here”’.
And/Or
(iii) Friday after Ash Wednesday
In the first reading Isaiah makes a strong connection between fasting, on the one hand, and almsgiving and working for justice, on the other. The kind of fasting that pleases God, according to Isaiah, is one finds expression in feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, letting the oppressed go free. We fast so as to be freer to give ourselves in the service of others. In the gospel reading Jesus affirms the value of fasting for the period after his death and resurrection. He too linked fasting and almsgiving closely together and he linked both with prayer, as was clear from the gospel reading that we read for Ash Wednesday. Within the Christian vision, fasting or abstaining is not about losing weight. Rather it is about become free of what is not essential so as to be able to give ourselves more fully in love to God in prayer and to our neighbour in loving service. We all have something to fast from; it may not necessarily be food or drink. We all have something to let go off so that we can be more available to the Lord for his work in the world. There may be something that absorbs us too much and that blocks our relationship with God and with others, especially those who need us most. Lent is a time when we ask for the grace to fast and step away from whatever that is holding us back, and hindering us from being all that God is calling us to be.
And/Or
(iv) Friday after Ash Wednesday
Jesus’ words in the gospel reading suggest that there is a time to fast and a time not to fast. He speaks of himself as the bridegroom, suggesting that his ministry is like a joyful wedding feast, when the divine bridegroom reaches out in love through Jesus to his bride, God’s people. There is no place for fasting at a wedding feast. There is no need for the bridegroom’s attendants, his disciples, to fast. However, alluding to his forthcoming death, he declares that the bridegroom will be taken away from his attendants and that will be an appropriate time to fast. In the words of Qoheleth in the Jewish Scriptures, ‘there is a time for every matter under heaven’, and we could add to his list, ‘a time to fast and a time not to fast’. Lent has traditionally been understood as a time to fast. It is a time when we identify with Jesus on his way to Jerusalem, the city of his passion and death, the city where he was taken away from his disciples. The first reading from Isaiah reminds us that our fasting is always to be linked to one of the other traditional Lenten practices, almsgiving or service of the needy. According to that reading, our fasting is in the service of letting the oppressed go free, feeding the hungry, sheltering the hungry and clothing the naked. We die to ourselves so as to give to others. We deprive ourselves so as to become more sensitive to those who are deprived and to serve them from our resources.
And/Or
(v) Friday after Ash Wednesday
The gospels suggest that people often asked Jesus the question, ‘Why?’ In particular, the religious leaders asked him why he was doing this or that or not doing this or that. There was clearly something new and different about the ministry of Jesus which gave rise to this repeated question, ‘Why?’ In this morning’s gospel reading, it is the disciples of John the Baptist who ask the question ‘Why?’ They wonder why Jesus and his disciples do not follow the fasting practices of the disciples of John the Baptist and of the Pharisees. In the gospel reading for Ash Wednesday, Jesus affirmed the value of the key Jewish practices of fasting, prayer and almsgiving, provided they are not done to attract attention. In this morning’s gospel reading, he indicates that the celebratory aspect of his ministry means that fasting cannot have the same significance as it does for the disciples of the Pharisees and John the Baptist. Jesus’ ministry is more like a wedding feast than a funeral, with himself as the bridegroom and his disciples as the bride. Jesus goes on to say that this celebratory element of his ministry does not exclude fasting. However, it does give it a different tone and focus. That celebratory element of the Lord’s ministry continues today in the church. The risen Lord wants his joy to be in our lives, a joy the world cannot give. Our fasting is with a view to entering more fully into the Lord’s joy; it is in the service of deepening our loving relationship with the Lord so that the joy of his Spirit may be in our lives. As Isaiah in the first reading reminds us, and as Jesus would confirm, our fasting is also in the service of a more loving relationship with others, especially those in greatest need.
And/Or
(vi) Friday after Ash Wednesday
There are only two days of fast and abstinence in Lent, Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Yet, many people chose to fast from some form of food or drink for the season of Lent. According to the gospel reading, Jesus’ disciples were criticized by the disciples of John the Baptist for not fasting in the way they did. John the Baptist was a more austere man than Jesus. Jesus once referred to John the Baptist as one who had come eating no bread and drinking no wine, and to himself as the Son of Man who came eating and drinking. It seems that neither Jesus or his disciples were as much into fasting as John the Baptist and his disciples. There was something more celebratory about Jesus’ ministry in comparison to the ministry of John the Baptist. In the gospel reading, Jesus speaks of himself as the bridegroom and his disciples as the bridegroom’s attendants. Jesus’ life and ministry had something of the celebratory quality of a wedding, and who fasts at a wedding? Yet, Jesus also acknowledges that a time will come when fasting will be appropriate, ‘the time will come…’ Jesus is looking ahead there to the time of the church. When we fast from some food or drink, we are showing that it is not vitally important to us, that we are not dependent upon it. What really matters to us is our relationship with the Lord. We fast so as to as to grow in our relationship with the Lord. In the first reading, Isaiah links fasting to our relationship with those in greatest need. We fast so as to be freer to respond to the call of those who most need our help. Fasting is always in the service of our love of the Lord and our love of others. If fasting is a saying ‘no’ to something, it is always with a view to our making a more generous ‘yes’ to the Lord and his people.
And/Or
(vii) Friday after Ash Wednesday
In today’s gospel reading, Jesus affirms the value of the Jewish practice of fasting for his followers. ‘The time will come for the bridegroom to be taken away from them, and then they will fast’, he says. Jesus is looking ahead to the time after his death and resurrection. He declares that beyond that time fasting will be appropriate for his disciples, but not during his public ministry which is equivalent to the joy of a wedding feast. In today’s first reading, Isaiah declares that fasting must be in the service of just relationships with others. He speaks of a fast that breaks unjust fetters, that leads to sharing our bread with the hungry and sheltering the homeless poor. Fasting can seem like something negative, a saying ‘no’ to something that can be good in itself, but, the prophet reminds us that this ‘no’ is always in the service of a more generous ‘yes’ to the Lord and his people, especially his most vulnerable people. We deny ourselves so that others can live more fully. We have become more aware in recent times that we need to say ‘no’ to others, to fast, so that our natural environment can also live more fully. Pope Francis reminds us of our responsibility to our environment in his wonderful encyclical ‘Laudato Sii’. We deny ourselves not only for the sake of others but for the sake of our natural environment. The Pope expresses this bond we have with all of creation very beautifully in that encyclical, ‘Everything is related, and we human beings are united as brothers and sisters on a wonderful pilgrimage, woven together by the love God has for each of his creatures, and which also unites us in fond affection with brother sun, sister moon, brother river and mother earth’.
And/Or
(viii) Friday after Ash Wednesday
In the gospel reading, Jesus says to those who criticize his disciples for not fasting that his ministry is not the time for fasting. Why is it not the time for fasting? It is because Jesus’ short public ministry was too joyful a moment in God’s dealings with humanity. It had something of the quality of a wedding celebration. Jesus, the bridegroom, expects those who attend on him to be joyful rather than mournful. He asks, ‘Surely the bridegroom’s attendants would never think of mourning as long as the bridegroom is still with them?’ There would come a time when the bridegroom would be taken away, when Jesus would be put to death. That would be a time of mourning, and fasting would be appropriate. However, that time of mourning would be short lived. On the third day after his crucifixion Jesus would be raised from the dead and the celebratory mood of Jesus’ public ministry would be restored. Indeed, it would be greatly enhanced, because form now on death would have no power over Jesus. It is worth reminding ourselves that even in this season of Lent we are living in the light of that first Easter. There is a place for fasting in the Christian life but it shouldn’t be of such a nature that it leaves us and others miserable. The bridegroom is very much still with us and he is constantly inviting us to the wedding feast of the Lamb. In the first reading, Isaiah reinterprets the Jewish practice of fasting as fasting from all forms of behaviour that are detrimental to others and, more positively, being proactive in regard to the full human flourishing of others. It means ‘to break unjust fetters… to let the oppressed go free… to share your bread with the hungry and shelter the homeless poor’. The practice of fasting has morphed into the Jewish practice of almsgiving, acts of justice and loving kindness that serves the wellbeing of others. Jesus would agree with Isaiah that this is the kind of fasting that is always in season and that we are all called to practice every day.

Importance of Tree Healthcare: Ensuring Longevity and Health for Your Trees
Trees are invaluable assets, both for their natural beauty and the essential role they play in our ecosystem. They enhance landscapes, provide shade, improve air quality, and increase property values. However, like all living things, trees require regular healthcare and maintenance to thrive. At Tree Doctor USA, we understand the intricate needs of trees and the importance of preventive care. This article delves into the fundamentals of tree healthcare, discussing why it’s necessary, the common issues trees face, and how professional tree healthcare services can make a difference.
Why Tree Healthcare is Essential
Tree healthcare is a preventive approach aimed at maintaining tree vitality, detecting issues early, and implementing treatments before they escalate. Here are some compelling reasons why regular tree healthcare is crucial:
Promotes Tree Longevity: Regular care ensures trees live longer, healthier lives by preventing diseases, pests, and other threats.
Enhances Safety: Unchecked tree issues can lead to weakened branches or even structural failure, which can pose safety risks. Preventive healthcare can identify and resolve these vulnerabilities.
Increases Property Value: Well-maintained trees are aesthetically pleasing and can significantly boost the value of a property.
Supports Local Ecosystems: Healthy trees provide habitats for birds, insects, and other wildlife, fostering biodiversity.
Common Tree Health Issues
Several environmental factors and pathogens can compromise tree health. Understanding these issues can help in detecting signs early on.
1. Pests and Insects
Various pests can infest trees, causing significant damage. For example, beetles, aphids, and borers bore into the wood, weakening the tree’s structure. Mites, caterpillars, and other leaf-eating insects can defoliate a tree, reducing its photosynthetic ability. Left untreated, pest infestations can cause extensive damage or even kill the tree.
2. Tree Diseases
Fungal, bacterial, and viral infections are common threats to tree health. For instance:
Root Rot: A fungal disease that affects the roots, hindering water and nutrient uptake.
Powdery Mildew: This fungal disease covers leaves with a white powder, affecting photosynthesis.
Canker Diseases: These can create open wounds on the trunk or branches, leaving the tree vulnerable to further infections. Professional healthcare services can identify these diseases early and treat them effectively.
3. Nutrient Deficiencies
Just like humans, trees require a balanced diet to grow strong and healthy. Nutrient deficiencies often show in the form of yellowing leaves, stunted growth, and sparse foliage. Soil testing can determine the exact nutrients lacking, and arborists can recommend appropriate fertilizers or amendments to restore nutrient balance.
4. Environmental Stress
Drought, extreme temperatures, and pollution can severely impact tree health. Stress from these factors can lead to weakened trees, making them more susceptible to diseases and pests. Proper watering, mulching, and periodic healthcare checks can help mitigate the impact of environmental stressors.
How Professional Tree Healthcare Can Help
Hiring professional tree healthcare services, like those offered by Tree Doctor USA, can make a world of difference for your trees. Here’s how:
1. Comprehensive Health Assessments
Professional arborists assess the overall health of your trees, checking for visible symptoms of diseases, structural weaknesses, and signs of pest infestations. With specialized knowledge, they can identify issues that may not be apparent to untrained eyes.
2. Soil and Nutrient Management
Tree healthcare professionals test the soil to understand its pH level, moisture content, and nutrient composition. They can then tailor nutrient plans or apply soil amendments to ensure trees have the nutrients they need.
3. Pest and Disease Management
Arborists use environmentally friendly treatments to manage pests and diseases, helping to control infestations without harming the surrounding environment. This can include applying pesticides, fungicides, or biological controls.
4. Pruning and Structural Support
Pruning is a critical part of tree healthcare. Removing dead, weak, or infected branches prevents disease spread and improves tree shape and stability. In cases where a tree needs extra support, professionals may install cables or braces to strengthen weak branches, helping prevent breakage.
5. Root Care and Mulching
Roots are the lifeline of a tree, absorbing nutrients and water. Tree healthcare experts use techniques like root aeration, which involves loosening compacted soil around the root zone to improve root health. Adding mulch can help retain moisture, regulate soil temperature, and prevent weed growth.
When Should You Call a Tree Healthcare Professional?
There are certain signs indicating that a tree might need immediate attention from a professional arborist. Here are some key indicators:
Sudden Leaf Drop: If a tree sheds leaves out of season, it could be due to stress or disease.
Cracks or Splits: Deep cracks on branches or the trunk suggest structural issues.
Discolored or Wilted Leaves: Yellowing or wilting of leaves could indicate nutrient deficiencies or disease.
Fungus Growth on Trunk or Roots: Fungal growth signals possible internal decay.
Insect Infestations: Visible pests on leaves, branches, or the trunk may require professional treatment.
Benefits of Regular Tree Healthcare Maintenance
Prevents Costly Damage: Early intervention can prevent small issues from developing into costly problems. For example, treating a minor pest infestation is more affordable than removing a dead tree due to severe infestation.
Enhances Tree Resilience: Proper healthcare strengthens trees, making them more resistant to diseases and environmental stressors.
Improves Curb Appeal: Healthy, well-maintained trees make your landscape more attractive and inviting.
Encourages Growth: Regular care promotes steady, healthy growth, which can help trees reach their full potential.

Affordable Home Health Care Services in the USA
Home health care services have grown in popularity across the USA as more people seek personalized care without leaving the comfort of their own homes. These services offer a wide range of medical and non-medical care options that cater to individuals with diverse needs. Whether it's post-surgery care, chronic disease management, or simply assistance with daily activities, home health care can be a perfect solution for many. In this article, we’ll explore what home healthcare services in USA provide and why they are a critical resource for people.
What Are Home Health Care Services?
Home health care services encompass a variety of medical and therapeutic services designed to support patients in their own homes. These services are generally provided by licensed healthcare professionals such as nurses, physical therapists, and home health aides. Here’s a breakdown of some key services:
Nursing Care: This includes medication management, wound care, injections, and monitoring vital signs.
Physical Therapy: For patients who need rehabilitation after surgery or injury, physical therapists work with them at home to regain mobility.
Occupational Therapy: Assists patients in regaining daily skills like dressing, eating, and using assistive devices.
Speech Therapy: For those facing communication difficulties, speech therapists provide at-home treatment.
Personal Care: Home health aides can assist with bathing, grooming, and other personal tasks.
With services that range from basic personal care to specialized medical treatments, home health care allows patients to maintain their independence while receiving the support they need.
Benefits of Choosing Home Health Care in the USA
One of the greatest advantages of home health care services for seniors is the flexibility they provide. Unlike traditional care facilities, patients can receive care at home, making the experience more comfortable and personalized. Here's why so many families are turning to this option:
1. Cost-Effective Alternative
In many cases, home health care is a more affordable option compared to hospital stays or long-term care facilities. Patients can save on expenses while still receiving professional medical care. Since the cost of medical facilities continues to rise, home care presents a viable solution for many.
2. Personalized Care
Every individual’s needs are different, and USA home health services can be customized accordingly. Patients receive one-on-one attention, which improves the quality of care and enhances their overall well-being.
3. Familiar Environment
For many people, staying in a familiar environment can help in the healing process. Home health care allows individuals to recover in a space they’re comfortable in, which can reduce stress and promote a quicker recovery.
4. Family Involvement
Home care services also encourage family involvement in the care process. Family members can help coordinate care, monitor progress, and provide emotional support, ensuring that their loved one is in good hands.
5. Reduced Risk of Infection
When recovering from surgery or illness, hospitals and care facilities can expose patients to various infections. By receiving care at home, patients minimize the risk of hospital-acquired infections, which can further complicate their recovery.
Common Services Offered by Home Health Care Providers
There is a wide range of services provided by home health care agencies across the USA. Some of the most commonly requested services include:
- Skilled Nursing Services
For patients who require more advanced care, skilled nurses are available to monitor health conditions, administer medications, and provide treatments like IV therapy or catheter care.
- Therapies
Home health care services also include a variety of therapeutic options. These therapies range from physical therapy for recovering mobility, to speech therapy for improving communication after a stroke or neurological event.
- Medical Social Services
Medical social workers can assist families in navigating the often-complex healthcare system. They help with paperwork, insurance claims, and even finding resources for long-term care planning.
- Assistance with Daily Activities
In addition to medical care, many home health care agencies offer help with day-to-day tasks like meal preparation, cleaning, and transportation.
- Home Health Aide Services
Home health aides are specially trained to assist with personal care needs such as bathing, dressing, and grooming, ensuring that patients can maintain their dignity and quality of life at home.
How to Choose the Right Home Health Care Provider?
When selecting a home health care provider, it’s important to consider several factors:
Licensing and Accreditation: Always ensure the agency is licensed by the state and accredited by recognized healthcare bodies.
Range of Services: Depending on your needs, verify that the provider offers all the necessary services, whether it's skilled nursing or personal care.
Reputation: Read reviews and ask for recommendations to find an agency with a strong reputation for quality care.
Staff Qualifications: Check the qualifications and training of the professionals who will be providing care.
Final Thoughts
Choosing home healthcare services in USA is a wise decision for many individuals who prefer to stay in their own homes while receiving professional care. The range of services provided ensures that patients can access the help they need—whether it’s medical treatments or assistance with daily activities. Plus, with the added comfort of being in a familiar environment, home health care services for seniors are a great choice for those looking to recover or manage their conditions at home.

Presidential candidates, polls, and the issues (APNORC.org) As Kamala Harris secures the Democratic nomination for president, people are more likely to feel Harris is honest, committed to democracy, disciplined, and cares about people like them, compared with Donald Trump. About equal shares describe Trump and Harris as capable of winning the election in November, a strong leader, and capable of handling a crisis. Forty-two percent think Harris has the right vision of the country and 35% say Trump has the right vision. When it comes to comparing the candidates on the issues, the public is more likely to trust Trump to do a better job handling the economy and immigration. Harris is more trusted to handle racial inequality, abortion, and heath care. The public is closely divided on which candidate would do a better job of handling crime or the wars in Gaza and Ukraine.
The US military and its Chinese suppliers (Govini.com) While China cranks out advanced weapons at a prodigious rate, it has also embedded itself in the supply chains for vital components of U.S. military platforms and weapons systems, creating U.S. reliance on the Chinese industrial base. Data from Govini’s Ark.ai, the software system for defense acquisition, show that between 2005 and 2020, the level of Chinese suppliers in the U.S. supply chains quadrupled. In categories such as electronics, industrial equipment, and transportation, China’s expansion is even more pronounced. Between 2014 and 2022, U.S. dependence on China for electronics increased by 600%. Chinese companies are embedded in the supply chains of subcontractors to defense primes across system components such as electronics, software, fuses and detonators, and data links. Tracing these connections reveals an adversarial presence in critical long-range systems.
'Don’t become a statistic': Hurricane Ernesto brings rip current danger to millions (USA Today) Hurricane Ernesto's eye was hundreds of miles from the U.S. on Saturday as it made landfall on Bermuda, but the storm will bring weekend danger to East Coast beaches, according to rip current and high surf warnings. Over 1 million people were under high surf advisories, while another nearly 10 million had statements issued for rip currents, according to the National Weather Service. (Rip currents can prove a deadly hazard for people far away from the center of a hurricane.) As far north as New York City, officials closed beaches in Brooklyn and Queens for the weekend due to dangerous rip currents from Ernesto. New Jersey officials also warned of dangerous and life-threatening rip currents along the Jersey Shore.
The British Have Finally Learned to Love Peanut Butter (NYT) When the American political commentator and noted peanut butter lover William F. Buckley Jr. arrived at an English boarding school in the late 1930s, care packages from home would include jars of peanut butter, which his British peers, he later wrote, “one after another actually spit out.” But over the last decade, Britain and many other corners of Europe have come around. Perched between the jams and marmalades at Waitrose, a popular British grocery chain, there are now 35 varieties of peanut butter—creamy and chunky, sweet and salty and extra-dark roasted, crammed into jars, squeeze bottles and two-pound tubs. Peanut butter—or as Jon Krampner, the author of “Creamy and Crunchy: An Informal History of Peanut Butter,” calls it, the “all-American spread”—has well and truly landed across the Atlantic. Britain is not the first European nation to take up the sticky baton—the Netherlands outpaces even the United States in peanut butter consumption, according to Mr. Krampner. Yet the land of marmite is the most recent European country where the product has taken off.
In a Ukrainian prison, cells are full of young Russian conscripts (Washington Post) In the basement of a prison in northeastern Ukraine, dozens of Russian soldiers—some wounded, most barely adults—sat huddled on metal bunk beds Friday, dressed in mismatched T-shirts and flip flops. In one tile-floored cell secured with a heavy metal door, Garfield played on a TV in the corner. The prisoners of war are not seasoned fighters who were caught in battle in Ukraine, but Russian soldiers captured at home after a surprise Ukrainian incursion into Russia last week. Many are among Russia’s youngest men: conscripts fulfilling their year-long mandatory military service who were never supposed to see combat, let alone enter Ukraine. The capture of so many unprepared young men poses a significant challenge for the Kremlin. It also serves as a test case for Ukraine on how to handle such a large number of Russian POWs. Conscription service is a politically explosive subject in Russia, where all men must serve in the military once they turn 18. After Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin promised concerned mothers that conscripts would not be involved in any fighting.
India to hold first assembly elections in disputed Kashmir in 10 years (AP) India on Friday announced three-phased assembly elections in disputed Kashmir, the first in a decade and in a new political environment after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government in 2019 stripped the Muslim-majority region of its semi-autonomy and downgraded it to a federally controlled territory. Since those changes the region has remained on edge, governed by a New Delhi appointed administrator and run by bureaucrats with no democratic credentials. The new polls will be held between Sept. 18 and Oct. 1, India’s Election Commission said at a news conference in the capital, New Delhi. The vote will take place in a staggered process that allows the government to deploy tens of thousands of troops to prevent any outbreak of violence. However, contrary to the past, the local assembly will barely have any legislative powers with only nominal control over education and culture. Legislating laws for the region will continue to be with India’s parliament while policy decisions will be made in the capital.
China’s rhetoric drives Taiwanese back home (BBC) Recent Chinese policy moves to criminalise support for Taiwan are unnerving the plummeting number of Taiwanese people who live and work in China, as well as those living on the democratically governed island. China’s Taiwan Affairs Office was quick to assure the 23 million Taiwanese that its new polices are not targeted at them, but at an “extremely small number of hard-line independence activists”. The “vast majority of Taiwanese compatriots have nothing to fear,” the office said. But wary Taiwanese say they don’t want to test that claim. “I am currently planning to speed up my departure,” a Taiwanese businesswoman based in China said. “Any statement you make now could be misinterpreted and you could be reported.”
Typhoon Ampil moves away from Japan as train services resume and no major damage is reported (AP) A powerful typhoon that slammed the Tokyo area with heavy rains and brought mudslide warnings in northern Japan headed eastward out into the Pacific Ocean away from the coast Saturday. There were no reports of major damage. Tokyo and nearby areas were back to normal under sunny skies. Bullet trains that cancelled services between Tokyo and Nagoya, stranding thousands of passengers, resumed operations with the first morning train. Some local trains were still delayed, however, and dozens of airline flights remained cancelled. Typhoon Ampil was moving away from Japan’s eastern coast at 20 kph (12 mph), with sustained winds of 162 kph (101 mph), the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
US official says Mideast mediators are preparing for implementation of cease-fire deal in advance (AP) In a sign that mediators believe a Gaza cease-fire deal is imminent, a U.S. official said Friday that Mideast negotiators are working out logistics for the potential release of hostages and distribution of aid as part of any agreement to end the Israel-Hamas war. The official, who spoke to reporters on condition of anonymity in keeping with rules set by the White House, said the proposal currently on the table basically bridges every gap between Israel and Hamas and mediators were making preparations before a final deal is approved. It was unclear what measures were being taken, but the official said a new “implementation cell” was being established in Cairo in advance. The cell would focus on logistics, including freeing hostages, providing humanitarian aid for Gaza and ensuring that the terms of the pact are met, the official said.
Palestinian killed as Israeli settlers torch West Bank village (BBC) A Palestinian man was shot dead as dozens of Israeli settlers attacked a village in the north of the occupied West Bank overnight, setting fire to houses and cars, Palestinian officials say. The settlers—some wearing masks—also threw rocks and Molotov cocktails in the village of Jit, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said. It is the latest in the series of attacks by extremist settlers on Palestinian villages in the West Bank, where there has been a spike in violence since Hamas’s deadly attack on Israel on 7 October and the ensuing war in Gaza. Israel has built about 160 settlements housing some 700,000 Jews since it occupied the West Bank and East Jerusalem—land the Palestinians want as part of a future state—in the 1967 Middle East war. The vast majority of the international community considers the settlements illegal under international law, although Israel disputes this.
CPJ denounces Israel’s smearing of killed Palestinian journalists with unsubstantiated ‘terrorist’ labels (CPJ) The Committee to Protect Journalists calls on Israel to stop making unproven claims that journalists slain by its forces are terrorists or engaging in militant activity, and demands international, swift, and independent investigations into these killings. “Even before the start of the Israel-Gaza war, CPJ had documented Israel’s pattern of accusing journalists of being terrorists without producing credible evidence to substantiate their claims,” said CPJ Program Director Carlos Martínez de la Serna. “Smear campaigns endanger journalists and erode public trust in the media. Israel must end this practice and allow independent international investigations into the journalists’ killings.” Since the war began on October 7, 2023, Israel has used questionable and sometimes contradictory evidence to label at least three journalists killed by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) as members or suspected members of militant organizations.

Arnica Tincture for Hair
Arnica tincture is a concentrated liquid extract from Arnica plants. If used properly, it has several benefits associated with hair care, such as the following:
1. Methods of Application
Arnica tincture can be mixed with coconut or jojoba carrier oil and, with gentle massage, rubbed directly into the scalp. This delivers the active compounds of Arnica right into the scalp tissue, increasing circulation while reducing Inflammation. It can also be added to regular shampoos or conditioners.
2. Precautions and Usage
While the Arnica tincture is relatively safe, it should still be treated and administrated with a certain degree of caution. Before applying it to the head, the herb must be tested on a small patch to assess if it might create any unwanted reactions. The tincture of Arnica also should not be applied to broken skin or open wounds.
3. Secondary Treatments
One can use the arnica tincture with other homeopathic remedies and practices. For example, adding a well-balanced diet full of vitamins and minerals, a good water intake, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle will complement the use of Arnica for hair growth.

Home health care in the USA has grown tremendously due to its flexibility and accessibility. Whether it's for elderly parents, post-surgery patients, or individuals with chronic conditions, high-quality care ensures peace of mind for families.
What Makes Home Health Care Exceptional?
Several factors measure a successful home health care service:
Customized Care Plans: No two patients are the same. Therefore, each one requires a personalized plan tailored to their specific needs.
Licensed Professionals: Home health aides, nurses, and therapists play vital roles in providing exceptional care. Licensed, experienced, and compassionate caregivers ensure that your loved one is in the best hands.
24/7 Availability: The best home health care services operate around the clock, providing reassurance in case of an emergency.
The ability to adjust care according to the patient's condition is key, allowing services to scale up or down based on the individual's changing needs. This adaptability can make all the difference, especially in critical cases.
Choosing the Right Home Health Care Provider
Selecting the right provider can be daunting. With so many options available, it’s important to know what to look for:
Check for Accreditation: Ensure the provider is certified and follows state and federal guidelines.
Read Reviews: Hearing from other families that have used the services gives insight into what you can expect.
Service Offerings: Does the provider offer nursing services, physical therapy, and other specialized care? Some providers have a broader range of services, allowing for one-stop solutions for your loved one’s needs.
Transparency with Costs: The cost of care can vary widely. Ask for a breakdown of the charges and whether insurance or Medicare covers any services.
Common Services Offered by Home Health Care Providers
Nursing Services: Skilled nursing care involves everything from administering medication to wound care. Nurses help manage more complex health conditions.
Physical Therapy: For patients recovering from surgery or illness, physical therapy helps restore mobility and independence.
Occupational Therapy: Helping patients regain everyday skills, occupational therapy is often vital for those who’ve suffered strokes or other debilitating conditions.
Speech Therapy: For individuals who have difficulty speaking due to health issues, speech therapy aids in communication and swallowing function.
Personal Care: Assistance with daily activities like bathing, dressing, and feeding can be essential for patients who struggle with these tasks.
Each of these services is crucial for maintaining or improving quality of life.
How Home Health Care Enhances Independence
One of the biggest reasons families choose home health care is the ability to maintain a certain level of independence. Staying at home provides a sense of normalcy. Instead of having to adapt to a facility's routine, patients in home health care can maintain their own, all while having the necessary support. For elderly individuals, it allows them to age in place, surrounded by familiar settings and people.
Additionally, care plans can be adjusted as the patient’s health improves or changes. Families also have the freedom to be involved in the caregiving process.
Case Study: John’s Journey Through Home Health Care
John, a 67-year-old recovering from a hip replacement, struggled with mobility. His family decided home health care was the best option, allowing him to stay at home while receiving daily physical therapy. Within a month, John regained strength, and his therapist adapted his care plan accordingly. Thanks to the personalized care and the encouragement from his team, John was walking unassisted within three months. His recovery showcases how high quality home health care helps individuals achieve better outcomes in a comfortable setting.
Ensuring Quality: Regular Evaluations and Updates
Top home health care services, especially those offering home health care for elderly in the USA, perform routine evaluations to assess the effectiveness of a patient's care plan. By regularly adjusting treatments and medications, providers can ensure their elderly patients receive the most effective care. These evaluations often include feedback from family members and other medical professionals, ensuring that the evolving needs of elderly patients are addressed with precision and compassion.
Regular follow-ups with caregivers also ensure that services meet the highest standard. For families, this level of accountability offers peace of mind, knowing that their loved one’s care is continuously being optimized.
Tips for Getting the Most Out of Home Health Care
Maintain Open Communication: Regular communication with your care team is key to ensuring the best possible care.
Involve Family: Family participation can enhance care by keeping the patient motivated and engaged.
Ask Questions: Don’t hesitate to ask for clarity on the care plan or seek additional resources.
The Future of Home Health Care
Technology is increasingly playing a role in home health care for elderly in the USA, from telehealth services to devices that monitor vital signs remotely. As this technology becomes more advanced, it may offer even more personalized care, reducing the need for hospital visits. This is an exciting development for both patients and providers, as it could further improve the quality of care while making it more accessible.
With ongoing advancements, home health care will continue to offer solutions that meet the evolving needs of patients and their families. This is the future of compassionate, individualized care.
