Pool Rules
summary: you get yourself into trouble trying to surprise your boyfriend during swim practice.
pairing: bob floyd x female reader.
warnings: no use of y/n. fluff, like one suggestive joke. 18+ blog in general.
olympic swimmer au
the last lap masterlist.
“Floyd, security detained your girl again,” Jake flatly announces, stalking into the locker-room with his very own girlfriend in tow, leading her inside with their hands entwined.
“Again?” Bob pivots on his damp feet, zipping up his arena jacket back up out of courtesy.
Really, it should alarm him more that you’ve been snagged by pool staff, but this was the third time it’s happened, this week.
“It was so mean!” Jake’s girlfriend chimes in, microfiber towel thrown over her head. Not bothered enough to ask if Bob’s decent, she rips the cotton draped over her eyes and Jake grits, wrestling to get it back on. “They just—they grabbed her thinking she’s some random fan that snuck in! Isn’t that horrible?”
“Would you just—get out of here Floyd.” Jake redirects the scolding to his teammate, still fighting against his girlfriend as she erupts into a bout of giggles at Jake’s struggle to keep the towel in place.
Understanding that Jake’s frustration isn’t fully targeted towards him, Bob nods and steers his body towards the exit, leaving his pile of dry clothes behind on the bench.
Assuming you’ve been stuck into that detainment room, Bob makes his way up there, swim tights still dripping wet.
Nearing you in his climb up the stairs, he sighs remorsefully, turning the corner. They probably stuck you in the grubby plastic chair that you swore flattened out your butt. And despite his tireless efforts to convince you otherwise, you were fully set on the fact that your rear quite literally sunk.
With a gentle knock to the door, the athlete cuts through his own stream of thoughts. And in getting no answer to the polite gesture, Bob pauses, waiting out a few more seconds before cautiously letting himself inside.
He’s not the least bit surprised to find you sitting in that very chair you hated so much, pouty face painted in streaky lines of red white and blue. As usual, you look like you’re ready to cheer on the U.S team at any given moment.
Wordlessly coming to a stop in front of you, Bob lets you stain his white nylon jacket with your patriotic face paint as you slump forward, landing flat on his stomach. In all fairness, his bare legs do wet the front of your shirt in return, but it doesn’t seem like you care all that much when you whine and curl your hands behind his thighs to pull him closer.
“Hi there, pretty girl,” he looks down at you, his shriveled hand petting the back of your head. All it takes is the feeling of you leaning into his palm, for the tight wounds of Bob’s muscles to finally loosen, despite his wearied efforts to alleviate the strain post-practice.
“They still didn’t recognize me from last time,” you dejectedly share, ignoring his greeting. “The guys that put me in here didn’t even believe Seresin when he tried telling them I was your girlfriend.”
Doing a quick scan of the dusty room, Bob notices that they’ve left you unsupervised this time. From a technical standpoint, the athlete can’t exactly blame them for not realizing who you actually were. Because everytime you did pay Bob a visit, you wore bizarre USA themed outfits to cheer him on—that altered your appearance each time.
He hated to admit it but, Bob was impressed that Jake could even manage to tell you apart from one of the crazed fans camping outside the training center.
But, even if you were one of them, Bob knows there’s a partially pathetic side of him that would still forget how to expel a breath if he saw a girl as cute as you choosing to root for him, instead of one of his teammates.
“You know why? It’s ‘cause you get prettier each time you show up looking for me. They can't believe how I got so lucky with you," he finally suggests with a small smile, coaxing you to stand up.
“Let me see what you got on today, Champ,” he reaches for your limp hand, pressing a kiss to your knuckles before lifting it above your head, to twirl you around.
A shy giggle bubbles out your chest when your boyfriend spins you, whispering about how pretty you looked as he runs his eyes over you.
Not wanting to make you dizzy, Bob slows down the movement, his hands moving to your hips to steady your balance. “Where’d you get this from? It’s cute,” he leans back slightly, chuckling when you proudly puff your chest at him.
Pulled up on each of your legs are knee high socks, one blue and one red with white stripes lined at the hem. And stretched across your t-shirt is a saturated Getty image of your boyfriend, gold medal between his teeth.
Lifting yourself on your tippy toes, you glide your fingers through his damp strands, pushing it out of his face. “Would you believe me if I said I had it made? I think it’s my favorite picture of you,” you confess.
A surge of butterflies suddenly flutters in your stomach, when your eyes slowly drift down to his flushed chest, that just barely peeks through the small gap of his unzipped jacket. You swallow, spotting a droplet of water still clung to his skin that runs down the line of his torso.
“Oh yeah?” He teases, pulling your attention back to his face. Though Bob’s trying to act coy, a rare side of him that had his coach choking on his sandwich the first time he witnessed it—there’s a matching tint of pink on his cheeks that gives him away.
Lightly tugging on the roots of his hair, a mischievous look washes over your features.
“Mhm, I just love having you on me honey,” you playfully bite back. And there goes the controlled breathing practice Bob spent half his life perfecting.
“Okay, that was—that really wasn’t fair,” he falters, feeling another wave of heat settling into his already flushed skin.
"Oh I'm sorry, didn't know we were playing fair now," you egg on, watching your giant boyfriend grow shy.
Bob only pokes his cheek with his tongue, until he takes in the fact that you’re wearing a shirt with his face on it. And he couldn’t see it any earlier because you’ve been trapped up here the whole time.
“I don’t know why they keep doing this to you, I’m sorry Champ,” he feels the need to apologize, drawing you in for a hug.
Bob considered himself a fairly polite guy, but when his girlfriend’s been given a hard time repeatedly—he feels less inclined to be so nice in his next run-in with security.
But instead of showing his sudden wear in patience, he relaxes completely—finding it nearly impossible to retain any tension in his body when you gently scratch at his scalp.
“It’s okay,” you assure him, twirling a piece of hair around your finger. “You found me anyway.”
“They made you sit in that chair though.”
“My butt is probably so flat,” you let out groan at the reminder, pressing your feet to the ground.
Not a second later, Bob goes to squeeze your butt. “Not, really,” he decides, seriously. "Even if it was, I don't think I'd care."
“Don’t you lie to me,” you scold, brows pinched together.
“M’ not. Did you want me to check again?”
Before you can anything, a uniformed man stands under the door frame, lifting his eyes off his clipboard. Almost in sync with eachother, you both stiffen hearing the noise.
“Alright young lady, I cleared things up with—Oh..”

Mundane AU!Laios thoughts
Note:
Probably contains spoilers
Mundane au= no magic and no fantasy 'races' (like... little people are a thing, they exist in reality, some people just have dwarfism. The elves are just skinny racist and xenophobic Europeans like? And there's already parralells made with the demi humans so if I do anything the orcs are Afro Native and Kobolds are somewhere African or Arab. And for the ogres... gigantism is a thing that exists in real like and totally a teen girl would just wear some horns.)
Thoughts:
The Toudens are European-born. From somewhere cold as hell, really isolated and conservative, that's close to some mountains, that's racist towards the local indigenous people.
(The sibs, but especially Laios got chewed out about some shit and has been trying to be better, slips up every now and then but takes criticism well so long as folks tell him what he did/said wrong).
Local weird kids put off vibes that the rest of the village didn't like, Laios and Falin grew up bullied and ostracized. Falin got sent off to schooling in the big city and later to a university in Italy where she met Marcille.
Laios dropped out of high school and joined the military as soon as he was able to b/c he wanted to get the hell out of dodge. Served for a few shitty years b4 just... deserting and backpacking across Europe just straight up homeless and working whatever odd jobs he could find. Man was going through it. Wound up in the same city where Falin was studying at a university in and decided to visit her. She took one look at him and refused to let him just go back to what he was doing, so Laios started couch surfing with her (very much against dorm rules but he looked terrible and Falin wasn't about to let anyone stop her from making sure her brother has a roof over his head and food).
Eventually, she takes him with her when she does a work-study in the USA for her ecology degree and they ended up staying/Falin kinda maybe sorta dropped out and got a job with a vet near where she was doing her work-study.
Laios and Falin are technically illegal immigrants but they're white so no one really questions their citizenship (their working on getting citizenship/papers)
Laios gets a GED. Does some self-study from Falin's textbooks and online stuff but that's about it for his schooling.
Laios definitely, like, lives in Falin's basement. Falin is the primary breadwinner in this household, Laios is aware of this and has learned to accept it even tho he would like to take care of his baby sister and sometimes feels bad about not being able to. They used to share a room in a cheap apartment but after building up enough savings they managed to buy a suspiciously cheap house in a rural town bordering a reservation and not far from a national park.
Laios still works odd jobs, mostly physical labor and stuff where they won't ask for a degree. Has worked retail, where his customer service was trash but he's darn good at just stocking and shelving shit.
Met Chilchuck while working retail, Chilchuck introduced him to the concept of a union which Laios thinks is really neat.
The town where the Touden's moved has a sizable population of people with dwarfism, Chilchuck is a notable member of the little person community in the area. The Touden's go to Chilchuck for help with paperwork (they pay him a small fee) and he doesn't ask too many questions about why they don't have this or that piece of documentation.
Laios enjoys doing citizen science and bird watching. During the tourist season, he runs a small wilderness guide giving campers and hikers tours in the local national park.
There's a hermit that lives in the national park illegally (Senshi) that Laios and Falin made friends with. They love his cooking.
Laios is active in the online furry community. He does commissions, mostly of digital and physical art or people's fursonas and vore stuff. He does great ferals, and decent anthros, but his human art is not good (he's working on it).
Laios is decidedly chubby in this, his weight goes up and down depending on the season and how much physical activity he's doing. But ever since he reunited with Falin, she's been making sure he doesn't skip meals if they can afford to eat. And ever since he met Senshi he's gotten heftier since he loves that man's cooking.

Home Nursing Advice Column #4: When and Where to Get Medical Help
Insurance issues aside, there are 4 basic levels of care one can access in the USA.
The first is taking care of yourself. Typically, you do not need to see a doctor or any medical professional for colds, small injuries (strains and sprains that don't impact movement, cuts that don't gap and aren't deep and that aren't on the face or knuckles), most fevers that last less than 2 days and don't have other symptoms, diarrhea lasting less than 3 days, or mild allergic reactions. If you need assistance with how to take care of these things, call a doctor's office or emergency department or your insurance and ask to speak with a nurse.
The second is primary care- Ideally, you have a primary care doctor (or office with several doctors) and you are going to that office for everything except the most time sensitive medical emergency.
If you have insurance or the money to pay for a visit out of pocket, it is always a good idea to "establish" with a primary care office. That way, if you need a sick visit, you can get in very quickly, usually within 24-48 hours. If you don't establish first, that's when you get the weeks or even months before you can be seen. If you need to be seen at an office you have established with, ask for a "sick visit". There are appointment slots set aside each day for sick visits.
Use general primary care visits to refill prescriptions, manage chronic illnesses, get routine preventative care and vaccines.
Use sick visits if you have a sprain or strain that does impact movement or ability to bear weight, the flu if you are high risk, infections, exacerbations of existing conditions you have sought treatment for previously, or other minor conditions that require a prescription, labwork, or imaging to treat.
The third is urgent care. Urgent care is essentially halfway between an emergency department and a primary care office. Some of these have lab or x-ray equipment on site, some do not.
Use urgent care if you have not established with a primary care office or can't get in to your primary care office in time, and have the above problems, or if you have a minor broken bone, diarrhea that has lasted longer than 3 days or hasn't responded to OTC meds, allergic reactions that don't impact airway but have not responded to OTC meds, a cut that is deep or gapes, or other moderate problems.
Use Emergency Departments as an option if you are experiencing a LIFE-THREATENING EMERGENCY or as a final option after everything else has been exhausted. Life-threatening emergencies include: choking, allergic reactions that have required the use of epinephrine or are impacting the ability to breathe, breathing less than 8 times per minute or more than 30 per minute at rest for an adult, sudden onset confusion, a fall of more than the height of the person who fell with new pain in the head, neck or back, new-onset severe pain that you don't know the cause of, severe trauma (gunshot wound, injury from farm equipment, amputations, etc...), rape, severe bleeding that you can't control or required a tourniquet to stop, unconsciousness, etc...

The Origins of a Very Special Agent
This is another old fic I am transferring to my new blog, since I have become obsessed with SAF again. I can't remember if I have posted this on tumblr before or just Ao3 but it is mine. Enjoy!
Trigger Warnings: None that I know of but please let me know if you feel I need to add anything.
Summary: Very fluffy curtwen oneshot. Barely any plot. Just boys in love.
Owen rapped his knuckles against the familiar door before taking a step back, waiting patiently and in full view of the camera he knew was hidden above the door.
It had been nearly two months since he’d last seen his partner. Until the other day, though sadly only briefly. Owen had been assigned to a mission in America, unfortunately not with Curt. But he was sent there for a full week of time, his plane home not scheduled until the end of said week. So he’d promised Curt when he had briefly passed through his agency’s headquarters that he would stop by the American agent’s house as soon as the mission was done.
He’d had no sleep and far too much coffee but he’d gotten the mission done in just two days leaving him free for five.
He was already leaning forward to kiss Curt as the door opened, but he paused as he took in the appearance of his love. Curt was looking at him with wide eyes. His clothes were askew. There were scratches at the top of his back leading down under his shirt. There was saliva on his neck along with what looked like teeth marks. “Owen! Before you say anything, I swear it’s not what you’re thin-”
“Only you could get into a fight with a cat Curt.”
Curt’s shoulders seemed to sag with relief though his eyes gain a curious look. “How did you...I mean I was worried you would think….I know what I must look like….most people would-”
Owen cut Curt off again by dramatically rolling his eyes and sighing as he gently pulled the American agent closer to himself. “I’m a spy Curt. I would say my deductive and observational skills are far superior to that of ‘most people’ as you so elegantly put it.” He said with somewhat exaggerated smugness before his voice softened. “Besides,” He paused to give Curt a quick kiss on the lips as he’d intended earlier before continuing. “I trust you, you moron. Now do you want to tell me how the USA’s top spy got into a tussle with a cat? And lost based on your injuries.”
Curt was grinning at him as he responded with an endearing glitter of excitement clear in his eyes. “I didn’t get into a fight with her. She chose me.” Owen raised an eyebrow. “Chose you?”
“Yes. She was hiding under my car from these assholes who were throwing things at her.” Curt explained further. Owen nodded in understanding. “Mmm, did you shoot said assholes, love?”
“That’s neither here nor there Owen, the point is she chose me. Clearly she knew I was a badass spy who would protect her, hence why she chose to hide under my car.” Curt said this as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. Owen did not have the heart or the inclination to contradict him. “Okay. So how did you get wounded then dear?”
Curt shrugged. “She did better than I expected in the bath but when I dried her off there were some tangles in her fur still and she did not appreciate me trying to get them out. You should see the sheets on my bed. Torn right down the middle.” This gave Owen pause. “Wait, that cat is here?”
“Of course! I couldn’t just leave her outside to be abused again! And it’s getting colder at night.” Curt defended. “Did you get special permission for a pet from your building manager?” Curt fidgeted a bit and smiled sheepishly. “She...doesn’t exactly know…..”
Of course. Owen fought the urge to slam his face onto his hands.
“I know you can keep a secret Curt, but you have an inspection monthly. Are you going to be able to remove all evidence? And what about when you are on mission? Someone will have to take care of the cat. Will they be able to keep a secret like you? Plus there are variables you can’t control that could reveal her. What if she meows too loud and your neighbors hear? What if someone sees her in a window? It’s against your building’s code and you could get kicked out.”
He knew this because Curt had complained to him about it on a mission nearly a year ago. Owen remembered the frustrated voice and the lip jutted out into pout. A pout he desperately wanted to kiss. But he couldn’t. Not then.
He squeezes Curt comfortingly and speaks his next words carefully and with sympathy. “You can’t keep her Curt.”
He expects whining. An argument. But instead Curt nods solemnly in acceptance. “I know. That’s why you are taking her back to London with you.”
Owen blinked at his boyfriend. When no sign of joking became apparent after a few moments his thoughts left his lips. “I most certainly am not!”
“Yes you are. You have to. I can’t keep her. But you can. Your building doesn’t have these stupid restrictions.”
“I understand that, but owning a pet is a huge thing and...I don’t know Curt. I’ve never had one. I’m not home half the time. She might not even like me.” Owen was almost desperately trying to justify himself and hold up against Curt’s pleading gaze.
“Great! So she’ll be your first! And you have that nice lady who comes in to look after your plants, she could help you care for your new pet! And I am sure Special Agent Fluff will love you almost as much as I do.”
Silence reigned in the room for a minute. “Please tell me did not name that poor cat Agent Fluff.”
“Special Agent Fluff.”
“Oh yes, that’s so much better.” Owen’s sarcastic words seemed to go unnoticed as Curt continued. “She needs someone to take care of her O, and I trust you more than anyone. I know I could find her another good home but I can’t stand the thought of her going to some stranger who might not treat her right. And this way I’ll still get to see her. She chose me and I chose you, she’s ours. Please.”
Owen Carvour had been a spy for years. Faced down countless people of the very worst kind. Had killed terrorists even as they begged for their worthless lives. Had carried out acts others would be sick at for the good of humanity and did it without flinching. He had steel nerves and resolve.
But damn it if Curtis Mega using the word ours didn’t do something unspeakably warm and gooey to his insides.
“I…..will consider it.” Owen conceded, gaining a heart-stopping smile from his partner that he couldn’t resist (not that he tried) leaning in to kiss again. “So, I suppose I should meet my potential new flatmate then.” He commented when he pulled back.
Curt nodded happily and practically dragged him toward the bedroom, something he had been expecting to happen when he got here though not in this context. Hmmmm….maybe later.
“I just know you are going to love her.” Curt announced as he opened the door to his room. His empty room. “She must be hiding.” Curt followed his words by making soft clicking noises, clearly trying to summon the cat. Owen was scanning the room, trying to spot any sign of fur when he suddenly felt a soft tickling sensation on his ankles. He looked down to see a tiny orange puffball rubbing it’s way in and out of his legs.
“Jeez I didn’t even see her come out.” He exclaimed in slight surprise. “Of course not, a good Agent is stealthy, O.” Curt commented almost proudly. “I told you she would like you! And I relate, I also want to constantly rub up against your legs.” Curt ended with a sultry tone and a suggestive wink.
Owen swallowed hard before schooling his face into one of mock chastisement. “In front of a baby Mega, you should be ashamed of yourself.” Curt scoffed at his words, a mischievous look playing on his face. “I have no shame.” Owen hummed in reply, concealing his chuckle. “Clearly.”
Owen leaned down and scooped up the kitten, holding her out and looking at her critically. She looked no older than a couple months old max. She had blue eyes. She was not declawed. She was reaching out a front paw to bat curiously at a strand of hair hanging in his face. He tries to maintain seriousness in the face of her adorable tilted head and his boyfriend's infectious laughter sounding from beside him.
“Well she looks healthy enough. Not sure what breed she is. Doesn’t look like she would shed too bad.” Owen listed off as if the combined forces of the adorable pleading faces of both this cat and his partner had not already swayed him.
“She’ll be a nice companion and I would come over to check on her so you get to see me too.” Curt encouraged.
Owen froze and let out a low gasp. “You mean you wouldn’t come over just for me? I’m not good enough?” His voice cracked near the end and he sounded like he was holding back tears.
Curt’s eyes widened. “Of course I would come over just for you, honey. I love you so much. You are way more than good enough for me. I didn’t mean it like-” Owen cut his lover off with a soft kiss on the cheek.
“I know that love. I was just messing with you.” He admitted with a semi sheepish smile.
Curt stuck his tongue out at him. Like the mature spy his boyfriend is.
“Not funny asshole. You are too good an actor sometimes.” Owen nodded and gave Curt another kiss on the cheek. “I’ll take that as a compliment.” He leaned in to kiss his boyfriend again, get him smiling again, when the cat decided she wanted in on the action, butting her little head against Curt.
Curt smiled and reached a hand up to scratch at her ears to the cat’s delight. Owen felt the soft vibrations of her purrs against his hands. “See what you are going to have to deal with Fluff?” Curt questioned the kitty. Owen sputtered. “I have not agreed to take the cat yet!” He pointed out.
“But you are going to right?” Curt looked at him beseechingly. As if in understanding the situation at hand, the kitten let out an adorable little mewl before giving a tiny kitten lick to Owen’s hand.
Damn both of them.
“I guess I am.” He acquiesced with an exaggerated sigh. “Yes!” Curt exclaimed with a large grin as he plopped to sit on the edge of his bed. Owen let the cat jump down onto the bed before sitting down himself. Again as if understanding what had just happened, the cat mewled happily at him before going to curl up on one of Curt’s pillows.
“Thank you.” Curt said once Owen was beside him, his voice sounding half sincere and half smug. Little bastard knew Owen would cave. “You’re lucky I love you Curt Mega.” He teased. He expects to be teased in return, as per usual but Curt forgoes their banter to give him a genuine smile. “I know I am.”
Owen barely had time to smile back before Curt’s head was tucked under his chin, the American agent’s arms winding around his waist and hugging him tightly. He returned the hug, one hand coming up to play with the back of Curt’s hair while the other simply rested on his partner’s back. They sat in silence and contentment for a minute.
“How long do we have?” Curt asked, voice muffled against Owen’s chest. The question was posed with clear hesitancy. As if Curt expected him to say they had only minutes left together. He was glad that was not the case. “I have five days before my flight. Please tell me you don’t have a mission coming up right now?” It was Owen’s turn to be hesitant and worried, though his worries were quickly eased by feeling Curt’s lips pull up into a grin against him before being totally swept away by Curt’s words. “Cynthia has me catching up on paperwork for the next week and a half. I’ll be at home.”
He knows to most couples five days would seem like nothing. But in their line of work, in separate countries and agencies, in a forbidden relationship, five days with no work and no distractions was a true rarity. “Just us for five whole days.” Owen spoke aloud, knowing Curt’s thoughts must be echoing his. He goes to say something more but interrupts himself with a yawn.
“Tired darling?” Curt’s tone is teasing but his face betrays his concern as he pulls back and notices Owen is a bit paler than normal and has slight bags under his eyes. Owen shrugs off the concern rather sheepishly. “I umm...haven’t really slept since the flight over. Wanted to get done with the mission as soon as possible. Give us as much time together as I could.”
Curt sighed before squeezing him tighter. “I appreciate that. And you know I love every second we get to spend together. But that could be dangerous on a mission. Lack of sleep can make you lose focus, react slower, and a whole bunch of other bad shit. I don’t ever want you getting hurt or….” Curt trailed off.
“I know that. I wouldn’t do it if it were too risky. You’re the reckless one remember.” He joked but Curt didn’t even chuckle. He leaned forward and pressed the softest kiss he could to Curt’s lips. “I know what I can handle, love. I didn’t put myself in any unnecessary danger. I promise.”
This seemed to appease Curt to Owen’s relief. “Besides, the faster it got done the more we would have time to do together right?” He said, hoping to cheer Curt back up.
It worked, bringing the smile he adored back to his partner’s face. “Well the first thing we need to do is sleep together.” Curt announced to which Owen immediately leaned in and kissed his lover’s neck. “You read my mind.” He practically purred out between kisses. Curt let him press a few more kisses to his soft skin and just barely begin to suck on a sensitive part of his love’s neck before pushing him back.
“No. I mean actual sleep Owen.” Curt clarified. Owen definitely did not pout at that. “You did that on purpose. And I don’t need to go to sleep. I just got here.” He also definitely didn’t whine as he spoke.
“You just said you hadn’t slept in over forty eight hours. Don’t need sleep my ass.” Curt retorted. “I would be much happier doing something with your ass than sleeping.” Owen mumbled back. Curt grinned and patted his cheek affectionately. He glared back with all the heat he could muster. Which was honestly not much. It looked more like a sulk.
“Okay. Since I can see you are going to be stubborn, how about I make you an offer.” Curt suggested. Owen lifted his head and regarded Curt interestedly. “What kind of offer?”
“You go to sleep now.” Owen immediately went to interject but Curt pressed a finger against his lips. “You go to sleep now. I will stay and cuddle you until you fall asleep. Then I will get up and make your favorites for dinner while you are sleeping. And once you wake up we can eat together and then I will put Special Agent Fluff out in the living room with a bed and a few toys and you and I can come back in here and spend the next few hours doing whatever you want.” Curt’s sultry tone had returned for the final sentence and damn it if it wasn’t tempting.
He made a show of considering for a minute before speaking. “You are an excellent negotiator Agent Mega.” The British spy complemented wryly. “I try Agent Carvour. So do we have a deal?” Owen let the question hang for just a moment before responding. “We do.”
Curt grinned at him. “Good. Do you need to borrow some pajamas or do you have your own?"
He technically had his own but wearing his boyfriend's clothes was a guilty pleasure, one they both had coincidentally. "I want to borrow some."
Curt shooting him a slightly smirking grin is the only indication that he noticed the distinction Owen had used. Owen watched absent-mindedly as his partner rifled through his drawers. After a minute or so he tossed something over his shoulder without looking back.
Owen caught it with ease and examined it. A soft pair of sleep trousers that looked like they were just slightly too long for his American counterpart meaning they should fit him quite nicely. He raised an eyebrow as Curt shut his drawers and started back towards the bed, turning the blankets down.
"What?" Curt asked when he noticed Owen's stare, radiating innocence."You forgot to give me a shirt, love." He informed, even though he was absolutely certain Curt was well aware of this. "Did I? Whoops. Sorry, O."
Despite his apology the man made no move to actually go get a shirt for him, instead climbing into bed and tucking himself under the covers.
Owen huffed out a laugh and rolled his eyes before changing into the trousers, chucking his worn clothes into a pile in the corner. He climbed back into bed and scooped his boyfriend into his arms. Curt squirmed slightly in his arms, adjusting against him before stilling, his body relaxing. Owen felt his body relax too in response, enjoying sleeping beside his love for the first time in so long. Wishing he could do this every night but knowing that was impossible, so he would just have to make the most of the time they had together now.
The last thing he felt before he drifted off with a smile on his face was a small warm weight jumping up and settling on his hip.

From the beginning I should say that I'm sorry for the torturous death of your soldiers and I'm wishing your people would win as soon as possible.
Nonetheless I do think army and more so war changes people to the point where they loose at least some of their humanity. Don't get me wrong, I respect the Ukrainian soldiers for sacrificing themselves for the sake of their country (because when it comes to most if not any US soldier not only they become a danger to the people close to them, they also did it for no righteous cause). But in my experience with mostly Easter European ex-military (as in several people I knew from Ukraine, Poland n russia), people don't really come back from wars as people you can always be safe with. And I assume it's all due to untreated PTSD or the like, but as somebody who've been a witness and sometimes a victim of their alcoholic tantrums or attempts at sexual assault, I cant really excuse them for that.
First of all, please allow me to express my sympathies about your experience. It must have been very difficult for you. I hope you did manage to get out of that situation and take care of your own mind and safety.
It is true that the burden of PTSD after the war (both in soldiers and civillians) will be enormous. Although it is important to note that not everybody who went through war will develop it, and, if I recall correctly, defenders are less likely to have PTSD than invaders, looking at the veterans from 2014-2022, we can get an idea of what to expect.
Since 2014, our army has been basically rebuilt according to NATO/USA standards, so the soldiers who fight today go through very different preparations than those you've probably encountered (if I am right to assume that people you mentioned served before this time period). I suspect this would influence the psychological outcome as well; for example, we got rid of "didovshchyna" that played a major role in the development of casual cruelty in soviet army (and still does in modern ru army). I don't think it will "save" anyone from PTSD, of course, I'm just making a point that comparisons with western armies would probably be more appropriate in this situation. Except for, western armies haven't had experience of defending their home in the recent history, so who the hell can we compare ourself with even.
However, I don't know if I can agree with you that this can be labelled as "loosing some of the humanity". Perhaps, losing some empathy and self-control? If you look at PTSD from a clinical standpoint, the physiologal changes it has on the brain, it really is a neurological disease that people have very little control over. (Except for reaching out for help; and refusing to do so is where I draw the line between an explanation and an excuse). After all, on one hand, they become extremely numb to the pain they cause to those around them; and on the other hand, they become much more sensitive to their own mental wounds. And not being able to control their behaviour leads to even more self-loathing, which leads to even more self-isolation, which leads to even more pain, which leads to even more numbing substances, which leads to even more loss of self-control... All of this just sounds very tragically humane to me.
But perhaps I'm just nitpicking the words and this is more about my personal distaste towards the dehumanisation in our words choice. Is it an important hill to die on right now? I really don't know. But I think it's important to remember that even the worst of worst, even russians, are still human. And by distancing ourselves from the truth that everyone carries some kind of darkness within us, we do no favours to ourselves in the first place. I know this war has turned me into a worse version of myself for sure.
#response#sorry for the rambly text#I guess I still haven't figured out this question myself#which is why I struggle with making my thoughts coherent

Hi hello! General update on me and why I've been like vacant until recently
TW: medical/surgery/infection mentioned
It's been a long series of freakin' "why me"
So for the past month as of this following Monday, I've dealt with a stubborn infection on my right big toe. One itty bitty spot along the cuticle, all puffy and angry. Very tender. I have no idea what caused it, as I discovered it shortly after taking a shower.
After a week, I managed to get the inflammation down, but boy it was clearly infected. I tried my best to disinfect it with what little I had, but I may have unintentionally chemically burned my skin
My skin is quite sensitive to chemicals, but I thought that rubbing alcohol wouldn't bother it much. Either way, the infection was in a precarious spot and proved difficult to just get the goods into with the nail in the way.
A very not so great condition nail by the way. Probably what ultimately led to its infection.
This past Monday, I had to get the toenail surgically removed. Luckily for me, it was pretty much ready to go and just needed a little help. That thing was preventing my infection from fully healing. I'm glad it's gone, since it was damaged like 6 years ago and didn't grow back right. This was inevitable. I've been liberated
One funny thing is that the doctor was kinda excited to pluck it off omg. I was the second one that day she had to do this for, and she seemed STOKED. My case wasn't the worse she had seen either. That was a relief LOL
Doctors and their quirks, gotta love 'em
She was very sweet and genuine with me, so good times! 10/10 would love her care again. I was in great hands!
But the pain didn't stop there
Oh no
Then. The gauze got stuck. For 3. Whole. Days. It was an antibiotic gauze, but it didn't need to be there that long. I just got it off last night with incredible, indescribable amounts of pain and suffering with hot water, soap, and the will of GOD
However. The nightmare doesn't end there
Here's the thing. I live in the USA.
I'm unemployed.
And don't have insurance.
Now I have the doom of my impending, brand new ✨ medical debt✨. I don't even know how much it's doing to be. I fear it'll be absurd. I had numbing shots, a douse of saline water, and a little elbow grease. That was my treatment. Hoping and praying that Medicaid accepts my recent application so I don't have to pay anything. Thank god antibiotics and ibuprofen are cheap, and my pharmacy gives discounts to those without insurance. There is kindness in the eaves of this dumpster fire of a country
It cost $221 USD just to be seen. Right up and front.
So if all things go to against my favor, I'll have to open emergency commissions and/or donations because dear god it costs an arm and a leg to just exist here. I'll be sure to provide a follow up post on when I hear back from folks. Right now I'm in a place of anticipation and occasional physical suffering
I'll live. The pain is temporary, and better than having it long term
So August kinda sucked for lil' ol' me, and I'm still dealing with pain because of, well, fresh surgical wound on my still quite angry toe. Now it's angrier, but it'll heal thankfully. Hopefully. It doesn't look too happy, but I've got antibiotics up the nine and now I have full access to the whole thing with the gauze out of the way. And I can add my own healing ointment that was helping the skin heal prior to my toenail getting harvested
Though this has definitely put a cold hard stop to my page production and I'm running low on stock, so I'm gonna try my best these following weeks to hustle while nursing this wound
Welp that's all about my personal life situation
Love you guys! Stay healthy! 💜 AND DRINK WATER!
#blazin beeps#blazingstaro beeps#blazin news#medical#health#surgery#✨medical debt✨#thank you usa healthcare system /sarcasm#doctor was great though no shade#gotta hustle on pages now though oh boy

Throwback Thursday
Tagged by @shipping-through-eternity to admit publicly to the first writing I ever posted.
In November 2019, my daughter was in hospital with what would turn out to be covid before it was a thing that had migrated to the USA. There she found the harry potter movies and watched them obsessively, but had some valid complaints. Namely, that there were not enough girls and there were not enough dragons and there was egregious lack of girls finding and making friends with dragons. Enter a mom stuck at the hospital with no way of managing her anxiety, and what you get is a ridiculous amount of words on C list characters from the HPHM mobile phone game who find and take care of a wounded dragon.
3.5 years and however many terrible twitter comments later, and I'm not part of this fandom anymore, but I can't bring myself to disavow my little story. It was my first attempt to ever sit down and finish a random idea I had. And I did it. And my daughter still asks for it at bedtime sometimes, so I call it a win.

Importance of Tree Healthcare: Ensuring Longevity and Health for Your Trees
Trees are invaluable assets, both for their natural beauty and the essential role they play in our ecosystem. They enhance landscapes, provide shade, improve air quality, and increase property values. However, like all living things, trees require regular healthcare and maintenance to thrive. At Tree Doctor USA, we understand the intricate needs of trees and the importance of preventive care. This article delves into the fundamentals of tree healthcare, discussing why it’s necessary, the common issues trees face, and how professional tree healthcare services can make a difference.
Why Tree Healthcare is Essential
Tree healthcare is a preventive approach aimed at maintaining tree vitality, detecting issues early, and implementing treatments before they escalate. Here are some compelling reasons why regular tree healthcare is crucial:
Promotes Tree Longevity: Regular care ensures trees live longer, healthier lives by preventing diseases, pests, and other threats.
Enhances Safety: Unchecked tree issues can lead to weakened branches or even structural failure, which can pose safety risks. Preventive healthcare can identify and resolve these vulnerabilities.
Increases Property Value: Well-maintained trees are aesthetically pleasing and can significantly boost the value of a property.
Supports Local Ecosystems: Healthy trees provide habitats for birds, insects, and other wildlife, fostering biodiversity.
Common Tree Health Issues
Several environmental factors and pathogens can compromise tree health. Understanding these issues can help in detecting signs early on.
1. Pests and Insects
Various pests can infest trees, causing significant damage. For example, beetles, aphids, and borers bore into the wood, weakening the tree’s structure. Mites, caterpillars, and other leaf-eating insects can defoliate a tree, reducing its photosynthetic ability. Left untreated, pest infestations can cause extensive damage or even kill the tree.
2. Tree Diseases
Fungal, bacterial, and viral infections are common threats to tree health. For instance:
Root Rot: A fungal disease that affects the roots, hindering water and nutrient uptake.
Powdery Mildew: This fungal disease covers leaves with a white powder, affecting photosynthesis.
Canker Diseases: These can create open wounds on the trunk or branches, leaving the tree vulnerable to further infections. Professional healthcare services can identify these diseases early and treat them effectively.
3. Nutrient Deficiencies
Just like humans, trees require a balanced diet to grow strong and healthy. Nutrient deficiencies often show in the form of yellowing leaves, stunted growth, and sparse foliage. Soil testing can determine the exact nutrients lacking, and arborists can recommend appropriate fertilizers or amendments to restore nutrient balance.
4. Environmental Stress
Drought, extreme temperatures, and pollution can severely impact tree health. Stress from these factors can lead to weakened trees, making them more susceptible to diseases and pests. Proper watering, mulching, and periodic healthcare checks can help mitigate the impact of environmental stressors.
How Professional Tree Healthcare Can Help
Hiring professional tree healthcare services, like those offered by Tree Doctor USA, can make a world of difference for your trees. Here’s how:
1. Comprehensive Health Assessments
Professional arborists assess the overall health of your trees, checking for visible symptoms of diseases, structural weaknesses, and signs of pest infestations. With specialized knowledge, they can identify issues that may not be apparent to untrained eyes.
2. Soil and Nutrient Management
Tree healthcare professionals test the soil to understand its pH level, moisture content, and nutrient composition. They can then tailor nutrient plans or apply soil amendments to ensure trees have the nutrients they need.
3. Pest and Disease Management
Arborists use environmentally friendly treatments to manage pests and diseases, helping to control infestations without harming the surrounding environment. This can include applying pesticides, fungicides, or biological controls.
4. Pruning and Structural Support
Pruning is a critical part of tree healthcare. Removing dead, weak, or infected branches prevents disease spread and improves tree shape and stability. In cases where a tree needs extra support, professionals may install cables or braces to strengthen weak branches, helping prevent breakage.
5. Root Care and Mulching
Roots are the lifeline of a tree, absorbing nutrients and water. Tree healthcare experts use techniques like root aeration, which involves loosening compacted soil around the root zone to improve root health. Adding mulch can help retain moisture, regulate soil temperature, and prevent weed growth.
When Should You Call a Tree Healthcare Professional?
There are certain signs indicating that a tree might need immediate attention from a professional arborist. Here are some key indicators:
Sudden Leaf Drop: If a tree sheds leaves out of season, it could be due to stress or disease.
Cracks or Splits: Deep cracks on branches or the trunk suggest structural issues.
Discolored or Wilted Leaves: Yellowing or wilting of leaves could indicate nutrient deficiencies or disease.
Fungus Growth on Trunk or Roots: Fungal growth signals possible internal decay.
Insect Infestations: Visible pests on leaves, branches, or the trunk may require professional treatment.
Benefits of Regular Tree Healthcare Maintenance
Prevents Costly Damage: Early intervention can prevent small issues from developing into costly problems. For example, treating a minor pest infestation is more affordable than removing a dead tree due to severe infestation.
Enhances Tree Resilience: Proper healthcare strengthens trees, making them more resistant to diseases and environmental stressors.
Improves Curb Appeal: Healthy, well-maintained trees make your landscape more attractive and inviting.
Encourages Growth: Regular care promotes steady, healthy growth, which can help trees reach their full potential.

Affordable Home Health Care Services in the USA
Home health care services have grown in popularity across the USA as more people seek personalized care without leaving the comfort of their own homes. These services offer a wide range of medical and non-medical care options that cater to individuals with diverse needs. Whether it's post-surgery care, chronic disease management, or simply assistance with daily activities, home health care can be a perfect solution for many. In this article, we’ll explore what home healthcare services in USA provide and why they are a critical resource for people.
What Are Home Health Care Services?
Home health care services encompass a variety of medical and therapeutic services designed to support patients in their own homes. These services are generally provided by licensed healthcare professionals such as nurses, physical therapists, and home health aides. Here’s a breakdown of some key services:
Nursing Care: This includes medication management, wound care, injections, and monitoring vital signs.
Physical Therapy: For patients who need rehabilitation after surgery or injury, physical therapists work with them at home to regain mobility.
Occupational Therapy: Assists patients in regaining daily skills like dressing, eating, and using assistive devices.
Speech Therapy: For those facing communication difficulties, speech therapists provide at-home treatment.
Personal Care: Home health aides can assist with bathing, grooming, and other personal tasks.
With services that range from basic personal care to specialized medical treatments, home health care allows patients to maintain their independence while receiving the support they need.
Benefits of Choosing Home Health Care in the USA
One of the greatest advantages of home health care services for seniors is the flexibility they provide. Unlike traditional care facilities, patients can receive care at home, making the experience more comfortable and personalized. Here's why so many families are turning to this option:
1. Cost-Effective Alternative
In many cases, home health care is a more affordable option compared to hospital stays or long-term care facilities. Patients can save on expenses while still receiving professional medical care. Since the cost of medical facilities continues to rise, home care presents a viable solution for many.
2. Personalized Care
Every individual’s needs are different, and USA home health services can be customized accordingly. Patients receive one-on-one attention, which improves the quality of care and enhances their overall well-being.
3. Familiar Environment
For many people, staying in a familiar environment can help in the healing process. Home health care allows individuals to recover in a space they’re comfortable in, which can reduce stress and promote a quicker recovery.
4. Family Involvement
Home care services also encourage family involvement in the care process. Family members can help coordinate care, monitor progress, and provide emotional support, ensuring that their loved one is in good hands.
5. Reduced Risk of Infection
When recovering from surgery or illness, hospitals and care facilities can expose patients to various infections. By receiving care at home, patients minimize the risk of hospital-acquired infections, which can further complicate their recovery.
Common Services Offered by Home Health Care Providers
There is a wide range of services provided by home health care agencies across the USA. Some of the most commonly requested services include:
- Skilled Nursing Services
For patients who require more advanced care, skilled nurses are available to monitor health conditions, administer medications, and provide treatments like IV therapy or catheter care.
- Therapies
Home health care services also include a variety of therapeutic options. These therapies range from physical therapy for recovering mobility, to speech therapy for improving communication after a stroke or neurological event.
- Medical Social Services
Medical social workers can assist families in navigating the often-complex healthcare system. They help with paperwork, insurance claims, and even finding resources for long-term care planning.
- Assistance with Daily Activities
In addition to medical care, many home health care agencies offer help with day-to-day tasks like meal preparation, cleaning, and transportation.
- Home Health Aide Services
Home health aides are specially trained to assist with personal care needs such as bathing, dressing, and grooming, ensuring that patients can maintain their dignity and quality of life at home.
How to Choose the Right Home Health Care Provider?
When selecting a home health care provider, it’s important to consider several factors:
Licensing and Accreditation: Always ensure the agency is licensed by the state and accredited by recognized healthcare bodies.
Range of Services: Depending on your needs, verify that the provider offers all the necessary services, whether it's skilled nursing or personal care.
Reputation: Read reviews and ask for recommendations to find an agency with a strong reputation for quality care.
Staff Qualifications: Check the qualifications and training of the professionals who will be providing care.
Final Thoughts
Choosing home healthcare services in USA is a wise decision for many individuals who prefer to stay in their own homes while receiving professional care. The range of services provided ensures that patients can access the help they need—whether it’s medical treatments or assistance with daily activities. Plus, with the added comfort of being in a familiar environment, home health care services for seniors are a great choice for those looking to recover or manage their conditions at home.
