Hey, sorry if this is rude I just wanted to say like I've followed and loved your work for a super long time and was just a little taken aback at the flippancy around the Paralympic classification section? As someone who is pretty severely disabled and a part time wheelchair user but whose primary diagnosis is EDS, I do have major beef with the Paralympics excluding my disability regardless of functional impact, as do many other disabled people whose disability is excluded but can't actually be accommodated in abled sports. Especially BC it's not just for the Paralympics - if a sport wants to be part of the Paralympics it's international sporting body has to agree to it's code including classifications, which has impacts for every level. Sure local leagues don't usually enforce it, but most parasports don't have enough players to have enough teams for a proper local league, so if you want to be actually playing games at any frequency you have to be playing at least regionals or states, and like since the national team now /must/ follow IPC guidelines, your chances of getting into state team is like 0 on a Paralympic year if you're not an eligible player, and regionals your court time is likely to be cut in favour of state level players. It's depressing and demeaning and mentally detrimental to be amongst your peers as a severely disabled person and /still/ be excluded. Your last point is not every space is meant to include every person, but as a wheelchair user I think wheelchair sports should be a space I expect to be included in, and without it there is literally no space in the sporting world for people like me. Just...as a severely visibly disabled sports person who found this out the hard way (rocking up to be classified then being told I couldn't be) the experience was shattering.
Sorry for the essay, and I do appreciate the work you do and do agree it's fucking rad to see disabled sports AUs as a disabled sports person, just please don't dismiss the massive damage that the IPC does to huge swathes of the disabled community and our ability to engage with sports, especially to the chronic illness community and like anyone who has tendon/ligament issues
1. Paravolley guidelines are symptomatic guidelines not diagnostics guidelines.
2. I quite literally have a character have C-EDS playing paravolley — you said your primary diagnosis is EDS, so is his. Not sure where this correlation is made. The fact that you feel excluded shows that you haven’t looked that deeply into my AU and posts as you think you have.
3. This isn’t about wheelchair sports, this is about sitting volleyball. While there are wheelchair users here, not everyone is going to use a wheelchair in this AU.
4. You literally cannot deny there is an unfair playing field of mild vs severely disabled people, I don’t know how else to explain that. VS1 and VS2 subtypes exist for a reason in sitting volleyball.
5. Yeah, these guidelines aren’t perfect, you have to go through rigorous classification and have a group of scientists and doctors analyze your ability, but there is a reason they do it.
6. My flippancy is because this AU is for me and nobody else. I’m not taking suggestions, I’m not doing this for other people, this is for me. A severely disabled person that currently has no treatment and cannot wipe their own ass when going to the bathroom or take a shower by myself. I am literally bed-bound and I honestly find it hard to relate to people that aren’t severely and visibly disabled. You would win against me if we played a sport inherently because you are more able than I am. My boyfriend would win against me, he’s disabled as well.
7. I’m glad that people love this AU and it reaches other disabled people, but at the end of the day it’s for myself and my disabled boyfriend most of all.
8. I’m autistic, people keep tone-policing me whenever I’m just talking, and I’m sick (especially as a brown autistic person) to be seen as aggressive or mean or rude just because I didn’t add exclamation points or hold peoples hands in understanding medical research.
9. This AU is not activism, there is literally nothing I can do about the guidelines, I am not intending to change them, I can’t even play the sport IRL because I am too disabled. This is literally for personal comfort. I am a part of the “this space isn’t for me IRL” because I literally cannot play due to being too disabled…
I make this AU for myself — and if it was for anyone else, it’d be for severely visibly disabled people like me. I’ve been accused of excluding “invisible disabilities” while ‘Ischemic Stroke’ and ‘PPMS’ is right there — you know, invisible disabilities.
People keep getting upset with me for not representing the exact disorder they want which is frankly entitled considering this au is for a SEVERELY DISABLED person (me).

I was just looking into World Paravolley to see if perhaps sitting volleyball is feasible and . . . no dice. On the eligible conditions page they were like "no hypermobility, no joint dislocations, no fatigue and NO chronic pain!" like jeez. Way to exclude me specifically I guess?
The thing is volleyball is generally not something you're supposed to be doing at all and that's probably why but it does suck to read tbh. I love volleyball and I'd like to be able to play it without feeling like I'm holding everyone back/fucking up my body further

Negrense sitting volleyball players hope to bring glory to PH
#PHnews: Negrense sitting volleyball players hope to bring glory to PH
BACOLOD CITY -- Differently-abled athletes from Negros Occidental banner the first-ever national men’s sitting volleyball team who will compete in the 10th ASEAN Para Games hosted by the Philippines this coming March.
A total of 14 out of 15 players are Negrenses, including seven from Silay City, two each from Cadiz City, Bago City, and Kabankalan City, and one from Sagay City. One is from Surigao.
The Silaynon players led by team captain Eric Molavin, together with Mayor Mark Golez, met with benefactor, Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Rowena Guanzon, who hails from Cadiz City, here during the Christmas holidays.
On Thursday, the players are still on a holiday break but are preparing to leave for Manila on January 5 to start training for the regional games.
“With our unity as a team, I believe we will be able to bring pride and glory for our country. We continue to train. It’s also an advantage that the Philippines is hosting the games,” the 46-year-old Molavin said.
He acknowledged though that they can be considered as “newbies” since their competitors from other Southeast Asian countries are more experienced and have more exposure.
Among Molavin’s teammates who work with him at the Silay City Persons with Disability Affairs Office City are Nicolas Lorico, 55; Glen Rodrigazo, 46; and Christopher Morales, 44.
Sitting volleyball, most widely known form of paravolley, has rules based on the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) regulations for able-bodied volleyball, with a few minor modifications.
Teams also compete with six players on the court at a time, and a portion of the athlete’s torso must be in contact with the ground at all times.
According to the World Para Volley, sitting volleyball is played by more than 10,000 athletes, in more than 75 countries worldwide.
Guanzon, who is providing practice uniforms for the team, said it is a pride of Negros that the national sitting volleyball players are from the province.
She added the Comelec also has a strong program for persons with disabilities (PWDs) that provides them easier access when voting.
Guanzon said she sees the sitting volleyball players become the poll body’s ambassadors for the PWDs’ welfare.
Golez said the city government would continue to support the sitting volleyball players from Silay, whom he is rooting to lead the campaign for no less than a gold medal for the Philippines.
The ASEAN Para Games, a twin event of the Southeast Asian Games that caters to athletes with disabilities, has been initially scheduled for January 18-25.
However, “due to funding constraints and logistical considerations”, it has been proposed to be held on March 20 to 28 instead. (PNA)

hi!! i've known you since you made your hq!! paravolley au, and i wanna say you're an absolute inspiration to me both in terms of my own disability and giving characters disabilities as representation. i love all of your art and will be attacking accordingly for art fight this year ;D love from my forearm crutches!
You’re so sweet! Thank you so much ❤️
I really need to get into doing more for the paravolley au again, sometimes I just take long breaks and don’t realize how long they are (oops!). This means a lot to me though, that I can help people feel comfortable with their own disability and free to explore their own world…
Take care! And thank you! I hope you have an awesome Art Fight too! Super excited hehe 😉

ive never seen haikyuu before but your paravolley au makes me wish that it was the canon series that existed, bc id love to read or watch a sports anime about disabled athletes
YOU’RE SO SWEET 🫶🩷🏐♿️
Thank you so much! This means a lot to me — I really wish there were series out there like my au too! (That isn’t like… a fetish series because I’ve sadly seen that).
I have a couple manga of “perfect world” but honestly I didn’t vibe with it too…

i really appreciate the diversity of representation in your paravolley au, the tidbits about each character that detail how their disability affects them and/or how their aids help them are really helpful for me to understand them better c: thank you for the effort you put into this au, and your art in general <3
Thank you so much!!
I was trying to think of it as “if someone who didn’t know anyone with this disorder read this, would they understand?” And that’s how i’ve been doing it! I also just… do A LOT of research, reading, and talking to other disabled people!
I’m so glad people enjoy my au it means so much ❤️🫶 Seeing other disabled people get attached as well means the world — bc too often do i see able-bodied people “try” to do similar with fics or art but just make it trauma p*rn or ableist. Or they just show how much nuance they do not have as a person not in the disabled community! Does that make sense?
