Hold up, It's another world cup year???
Why does it feel like there's a world cup every year this is so stressful I am not emotionally ready for all of that so soon again (I say this and will proceed to watch every match, get way too invested and have an unhealthy number of panic episodes. 🙂)
yes!!! t20 world cup. the t20 world happens every two years. but it didn't take place in 2020 due to covid. so that edition got pushed to 2021. then the next edition happened as per schedule in 2022. and 2023 was the odi world cup. this year aka 2024 is the t20 cup again. 😭
they feel back to back cause covid fucked the schedule a little lmao. and also we keep losing. so the emotional trauma doesn't end and we keep reliving it (it's been 4 months and i am still not over the world cup final so 😭😭😭😭).
#before that we have the ipl.#and at least we know for a fact that india will win that!!!#virat kohli probably wont. but india will 😭#asks#cricket

Clive Madande: Franchise Cricket Can Bring New Talent to Zimbabwe
Wicketkeeper Clive Madande hopes his team can put up a strong performance against India in the upcoming five-match T20 series starting Saturday. He believes that greater participation in franchise cricket could attract more young talent to the sport in Zimbabwe.
The Day Cricket Became a Passion
Clive Madande’s love for cricket began as a 12-year-old when his father took him to watch a Test match between Pakistan and Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club in 2014. Zimbabwe’s victory by 24 runs left a lasting impression on him. “It was one of the greatest days in Zimbabwean cricket. We beat Pakistan, and I thought, well, I should play this game,” Madande recalls. Now, a decade later, he is a key figure in reviving Zimbabwe’s cricketing legacy.
The Struggles of Zimbabwean Cricket
Despite that memorable victory, Zimbabwe’s cricket has faced numerous challenges over the past decade. Administrative issues, lack of infrastructure, government interference, salary cuts, and a talent shortage have hindered progress. While there have been occasional upsets, such as beating Australia in an ODI in Townsville and Pakistan in the 2022 World Cup, the golden era of players like the Flower brothers, Neil Johnson, Murray Goodwin, and Heath Streak is a distant memory.
Seeking Guidance from Legends
Madande often seeks advice and motivation from Zimbabwean cricket legends like Dave Houghton and Tatenda Taibu. “Guys like Houghton and Taibu, I speak to them regularly for advice, motivation, and tips. Whenever I feel like struggling, I go back to them,” he says.
Upcoming Challenges and Opportunities
Zimbabwe has a busy schedule ahead, starting with the India T20I series. They will host all top nations except Australia and tour countries like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and England. Madande sees these matches as a big motivation to play harder and smarter. “Like we showed in the series against Bangladesh, we have talent. We played good cricket there, just that we couldn’t get the results we wanted,” he explains.
Experience and Talent in the Squad
Led by the seasoned Sikandar Raza, Zimbabwe’s team includes experienced players like all-rounders Luke Jongwe and Wessly Madhevere, fast bowlers Tendai Chatara and Blessing Muzarabani. Playing in front of home crowds is a huge advantage. “We would be playing in our backyard; there will be a lot of people cheering for us. It’s still the most popular sport in the country, and a lot of youngsters and schoolboys play this game,” Madande says.
Learning from the Best
Madande acknowledges the strength of the Indian team, even though it is an in-transition squad. He admires players like Sanju Samson, Riyan Parag, and Jitesh Sharma. The 24-year-old knows that strong performances could attract the attention of IPL scouts. “If more of us get to play cricket in franchises, the game would draw more young talent to it, which would be good for the game overall in the country,” he says.
Building a Bright Future
Zimbabwe Cricket is planning to establish a national cricket academy, refurbish the domestic league, and install indoor training facilities at all five domestic centers. Madande is optimistic that these efforts will help Zimbabwe rediscover its giant-slaying mojo and inspire more youngsters to fall in love with the game, just as he did a decade ago.

India vs Pakistan Cricket Series in Australia? Cricket Australia Hopes So
The long-standing cricket rivalry between India and Pakistan has been limited to ICC tournaments since their last bilateral series in 2012–13. However, Cricket Australia (CA) is keen on changing that by hosting a bilateral series between the two cricketing giants in Australia.
Cricket Australia’s Proposal
Nick Hockley, Chief Executive of Cricket Australia, has expressed a strong interest in facilitating an India vs Pakistan bilateral series down under. During a media interaction with The Indian Express, Hockley stated, “If we can play a role in helping and facilitating the India vs Pakistan bilateral series, we would be more than happy to do so.”
Historical Context and Recent Matches
The most recent encounter between India and Pakistan occurred during the 2024 T20 World Cup group stage in New York, where India emerged victorious by six runs. India, led by Rohit Sharma, went on to win the trophy, while Pakistan, under Babar Azam, were knocked out in the group stage.
This followed another thrilling match at the 2022 T20 World Cup at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), where a crowd of 90,293 witnessed a last-ball victory by India. This exciting encounter has fueled interest from both the Melbourne Cricket Club and the Victorian government in hosting future bilateral matches at the MCG.
Scheduling and Future Plans
While formal discussions have not yet taken place due to scheduling constraints, Hockley has reiterated CA’s willingness to host the series. “Given the schedules, we haven’t had formal discussions in that regard, but we have said it on the record that we will be happy to host the India vs Pakistan bilateral series,” Hockley said.
The Future of ODI Cricket
Hockley also touched on the future of One Day International (ODI) cricket. Despite Australia being the defending champions, he emphasized the need for bilateral ODI series to have meaningful contests to maintain their relevance. “The ODI World Cup which India hosted last year was fantastic. I think the ten-team format, where every game counts is excellent,” he noted.
Hockley suggested that bilateral ODI series should have consequences similar to the World Test Championships to ensure each match carries weight. “Each series must have consequences, like the Test matches, which help you to progress in the World Test Championships (WTC) finals. We need something similar for the white ball format, be it the rankings or other factors that relate to qualifications for the World Cups,” he added.
Looking Ahead
From Cricket Australia’s perspective, the importance of maintaining all three formats of the game is clear. Hockley emphasized that each bilateral series should contribute to World Cup qualifications, ensuring every match holds significance.
The prospect of an India vs Pakistan bilateral series in Australia is an exciting one, potentially rekindling one of cricket’s greatest rivalries on neutral ground. Cricket Australia’s interest signals a possible new chapter for international cricket fans eagerly awaiting such iconic matches outside ICC events.

England's Pursuit of Another Semi-Final Triumph Against India
In recent years, England has shone brightest in semi-final matches, demonstrating their prowess in high-stakes games. Two dates stand out in their white-ball cricket resurgence: July 11, 2019, and November 10, 2022. These days saw England deliver two of their most impressive limited-overs performances, both leading to World Cup finals victories. In 2019, England crushed Australia by eight wickets to secure a spot in the 50-over World Cup final. In 2022, they defeated India by 10 wickets in Adelaide, reaching the T20 World Cup final amid a fervent crowd. This Thursday, England, the defending champions, return to Guyana for the first time in 14 years to face India in another crucial semi-final. Storm machine, CC BY-SA 4.0 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0, via Wikimedia Commons Previously, England entered these matches as underdogs but managed to turn the tide spectacularly. Despite a rough start, they gained momentum with wins over Oman, Namibia, and the United States. The only Test-playing nation they beat was the West Indies, but they did so convincingly. This semi-final will be a true test of England's capabilities. India, on the other hand, has cruised through the tournament, particularly in New York, where they were the main attraction. They haven't faced significant challenges since their close win over Pakistan and continued their strong performance in the Caribbean. Captain Rohit Sharma's recent explosive innings against Australia, scoring 92 from 41 balls, signals a formidable challenge for England. Virat Kohli, although not in top form, is another potential threat. India had the advantage of knowing their semi-final venue early due to the tournament's scheduling for Indian television, while England faced last-minute travel arrangements. India's strategy includes a spin-heavy squad, anticipating the slow pitch in Guyana. Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal, yet to play in the tournament, are expected to feature prominently. England might also consider debuting their spinner, Tom Hartley, to counter India's approach. Weather conditions and the lack of a reserve day add another layer of uncertainty. If rain disrupts play, India will advance due to their higher group stage ranking. England's recent history in knockout matches is positive, whereas India has struggled, losing four of their last five semi-finals in white-ball World Cups. A win for England would vindicate coach Matthew Mott and captain Jos Buttler, easing the disappointment of last year's 50-over World Cup. The victor of this match will likely be the favorite in the final, facing a South African team with its own semi-final demons. For England, a win on June 27 could become a landmark date, while a loss would quickly fade into obscurity amid the upcoming football frenzy. Read the full article

Rishabh Pant Enjoys First Nets Session In Indian jersey After 16 Months, Gears Up For T20 WC
Star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant had his first nets session for Team India after at least 16 months, ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup opener against Ireland, scheduled for June 5.
The ICC T20 World Cup will be played in the West Indies and the USA from June 1 to 29. The Men in Blue will also play Bangladesh in their only warm-up game on June 1 at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
Pant, who returned to competitive cricket during the Indian Premier League (IPL) this year following a life-threatening road accident in December 2022, will be making his much-awaited return to the blue colours of the Indian jersey.
In the recently concluded IPL 2024, Rishabh's team Delhi Capitals finished in the sixth spot with seven wins, seven losses and 14 points and failed to move to playoffs. He scored 446 runs in 13 matches at a strike rate of over 155 with three half-centuries and emerged as the team's top run-getter.
Pant looked in great shape while practicing, having lost a lot of weight, and sported a much leaner look ahead of the tournament.
In a video posted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Pant said, "This is one thing I missed a lot (practicing with the Indian team and playing for them). Getting back on the field with the Indian jersey on, it is a different feel altogether and this is something I missed a lot. I think seeing the teammates and meeting them again, spending time, having fun with them, enjoying having conversations, really enjoying it."
Pant said that playing in the USA is a different prospect and it has opened a whole new channel for the sport.
"We are used to playing in certain countries but this is a different prospect. It has opened up a different channel for sport because I feel cricket is growing around the world and getting in a country like the US and getting the exposure here would be nice for cricket as well as USA cricket I guess," he said.
He said he is getting used to the conditions and the sun shines a little brighter here in the US and there are new pitches.
"So just getting used to conditions over here and let us see how it goes. Hopefully, I make it count and make it more better from here," he concluded.
In seven T20 WC matches and five innings, he has scored 87 runs at an average of 21.75 across 2021 and 2022 editions, with the best score of 39.
India will start their T20 World Cup campaign on June 5 against Ireland at the newly constructed Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
Meanwhile, the most-awaited blockbuster clash between India and Pakistan will take place on June 9. They will later play tournament co-hosts USA (June 12) and Canada (June 15) to wrap up their Group A matches.
In the tournament, India will be aiming to end their ICC trophy drought, having last won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013. Since then, India has reached the 50-over World Cup final in 2023, semifinal in 2015 and 2019, the title clash of the ICC World Test Championship in 2021 and 2023, T20 WC final in 2014, semifinals in 2016 and 2022 but failed to secure a big ICC trophy.
India will be aiming to win their first T20 WC title since they won the inaugural edition of the tournament back in 2007 in South Africa. In the last edition held in Australia in 2022, India lost to England by 10 wickets in the semifinals.
India squad: Rohit Sharma (c), Hardik Pandya (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (wk), Sanju Samson (wk), Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Siraj

[ad_1] With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli proving their mettle in the South Africa series, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has sanctioned the returns of all-formats stalwarts for India's upcoming white-ball assignments in the T20 World Cup year. As India's white-ball mavericks Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya are nursing their respective injuries, the Rahul Dravid-coached side will audition youngsters in the Afghanistan series. On Sunday, the BCCI also confirmed Kohli and Rohit's returns in the T20I setup. Kohli and Rohit last played a T20I in 2022(Reuters) Scheduled to host Afghanistan in its upcoming T20I series, India will miss the services of Suryakumar and Pandya. Team India is also without opener Ruturaj Gaikwad, who is unavailable due to a finger injury. Before the BCCI bigwigs took the final call on Rohit and Kohli, former India opener Krishnamachari Srikkanth backed the batting icons to feature in India's squad for the T20 World Cup this year. Wrap up the year gone by & gear up for 2024 with HT! Click here ALSO READ: 'Selection committee will also think...': Sunil Gavaskar's honest verdict on Shreyas Iyer after South Africa series Sharing his views on YouTube in the build-up to India's squad announcement for the T20I series, Srikkanth opined that skipper Rohit is undroppable when it comes to his selection for the ICC World T20. The 1983 World Cup winner also feels that former skipper Kohli can be a sure starter at the ICC event. Kohli and Rohit last played a T20I for India at the 2022 edition of the World Cup in Australia. India were outplayed by eventual champions England in the World Cup 2022 semi-finals. 'If Rohit Sharma says I am available…'“Virat Kohli is a certainty. He is in great form. Rohit Sharma, maybe, is confident because of how he scored in the World Cup. He will regroup and try and do well in the IPL. If Rohit Sharma says I am available, you can't say you will drop him. At the end of the day, Rohit Sharma is also hurt that he has lost a World Cup. He would like to go out with a World Cup in his hand at least. He was there in the 2007 World Cup. He would want to do something similar, win a World Cup, and go out,” Srikkanth said. Rohit and Kohli were rested for the entire white-ball leg of the South Africa series after the 2023 One Day International (ODI) World Cup. Rohit finished behind all-time leader Kohli in the run-getters list at the World Cup. In Rohit's absence, India were led by Surykumar for the South Africa T20Is. The three-match series against Afghanistan is Team India's last bilateral T20I assignment before the T20 World Cup. ‘Kohli would definitely want to win…’“Virat Kohli would definitely want to win a T20 World Cup. Moreover, last year only the T20 World Cup took place, 13 months back. Virat Kohli was in extraordinary form. If they say they are available, I don't think you can drop them. If you want to give captaincy to Hardik, you can. But you have to also look at his (Hardik's) fitness,” Srikkanth added. [ad_2] Source link

Dawn of New Sporting Era in United States of America -T-10 Cricket
In life, change is constant...
Excruciating slow and lengthy professional sports (NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, MLS) have witnessed concerted effort to reduce time to keep fans engaged. Making a better TV for viewers with more action attracts the next generation of fans. Athlete and fans are spoiled with choices. And, the appetite for engaging sport aside from football, basketball, hockey, baseball and soccer brings the newest world sensation back to America: CRICKET! Cricket once a popular sport in America, began waning in 1908. Starting around 1905, the number of matches dropped and clubs began to close. Last match was played in 1913. International apathy caused an irreversible decline. Haverford College played as late as 1925 at a high standard. Today, Haverford College continues to play cricket.
Cricket is often compared to baseball. It is also a bat and ball game played between two teams. The batting team has two players on the field and bowling team has eleven players on a field. At the center of field there is a 22-yard pitch. Each end has three stumps and between the stumps are two bails, combined called wickets. Six legal balls are bowled in an over. Overs determine length of the game. Bowler delivers from one end of a cricket pitch to the batting player.
Over the years Cricket has introduced various formats. The five day Test match exist to test skills, character, stamina and temperament with unlimited overs. One Day International (ODI) has single inning each and 50 overs that lasts 7 hours on average. Year 2003 ooze the game of cricket, indelible introduction of a twenty overs format, called T20, and it revolutionized the sport. This 3 hour match entered India in 2008, and birthed Indian Premier League (IPL) having eight franchise teams and later adding two more. Post 2023 season the IPL T20 league is valued at $15.4 Billion USD. It has attracted far more audiences in short duration than any other sport in history. Year 2022, data reported 2.5 billion worldwide fan following.
In 2017, a fourth form of cricket was officially introduced and sanctioned by the International Cricket Council (ICC). This 90 minute, Short and Sweet, T10 Cricket League also has a Masters League, the Indian Masters T10 (IMT10) and US Masters T10 (USMT10). Despite the Covid-19 pandemic this league has grew to whopping 341 million viewership in 2022, 2,561% increase. The league's economic impact is now being valued at USD $621.2 million. Cricket has witnessed fastest growth in comparison to any other sports and every formats has volume of followers. USMT10 league is for yesteryear‘s highly celebrated athletes.
Star studded squad brings renowned athletes, in which batters and bowlers use their mastered techniques that make this game exceptionally attractive for new and vetted fans. International Olympic Committee (IOC) intends to provision this short format cricket for Los Angeles 2028 (LA28) Olympics. The 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup is scheduled to be hosted by the United States and the West Indies in June 2024. It will be the first ICC World Cup tournament matches played in the United States.
