Ruling People's Action Party's vote share dropped by 8.62% in the 18th General Elections held on Friday! Lee Hsien Loong earned another term as Singapore's PM with a majority. His party secured 83 out of the 93 seats, on which the election was held, while opposition Worker's Party (WP) won 10 seats. Loong did win a majority but his vote share dropped about 9% as this time it was 61.24% as compared to last election's 69.09%. In the 17th General Election held in 2015, PAP won 83 out of the 89 seats while WP registered a victory on 6. The 2020 voter turnout was 96%, 3% more than the last election 93%. Mind you, they were well articulated with no racial slur, simply calling out rich Christian Chinese and white privilege. She is currently being investigated by the police for allegedly “promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion or race”. You might not know there’s little room for freedom of speech on this ex-British crown colony island where I grew up. The founding father of our independence actually whitewashed HIS and my family’s minority’s ethnic heritage in the name of “racial harmony”. For promoting enmity between groups on grounds of religion or race under the Penal Code, a person can be jailed up to three years, or fined, or face both. . Rights group like ASEAN Parliamentarians for Human Rights have long-flagged various election process that they say disadvantage the opposition. I will be voting for Workers Party this time round. I didnt like how our Presidential election was run. And i could really use some check and balance in parliament on my behalf. Sure, there are NCMP positions but how can one speak for the people if they dont know the people's voice? That is a tall order (pun intended) I told him if he pass by my road, can he help to drop a flyer into my mailbox as usually no political party will come by my road (blind spot) He replied saying he is on his way!
